Negative experience: Oh my goodness, VirginActive! Are you guys really serious? I have NEVER come across such a thieving, duplicitous, unprofessional, dishonest, nonchalant and aggravating lot in my life! You have left me feeling bewildered and absolutely disgusted. I signed up with the first month supposedly free, then I was debited 1 week in. I have never set foot in the streatham branch so called up to find out if they had a car park and if not what parking was like. It wasn’t suitable and after looking at all the miserable reviews decided to cancel. Oh boy are these people deplorable, first No one from the customer service team is now answering the phone. They have a cheek playing the message that they’re experiencing a high level of calls and that the wait may exceed 30 minutes (or something to a similar effect). I asked to speak to a manager and was basically refused, instead instructed to email which I already had. I had to press 1 for sales and they sure were able to answer that line. The first time, mid conversation, the call was transferred abruptly. Second call to central sales line at head office, I was told by the rep that he had been instructed to not answer my call, I mean why? Because they robbed me and I want my money back. Mind you I spoke with someone 8 days ago who apologised after seeing that I should not have been charged and said she’d issue my refund. It took me 3 days to get contact. I even tried the web chat. Even when they say press a number and they’ll call back when you’re at the top, this is not fulfilled. I’ve now had to begin the process with my bank instead, because how bizarre are these lot? I had to withhold my number to call a third time after being hung up on. Thanks VirginActive for showing your true colours and the fact you could not give a toss. Is this a good enough review? You asked and I have delivered. It was not nice to meet you.
Negative experience: This gym used to be so good but it was a different company I honestly don’t know what happened, reading reviews are just making me not even want to join this gym anymore. Fix up Virgin Active!!! Stop letting clients down

Negative experience: Avoid. I was just going to join because of the swimming pool, as I live two minutes away and need it, but then I read these reviews! It's shocking, really, for what people are paying. When I went twice, I absolutely thought the equipment looks very outdated. I'm at Regen gym up the road and pay £35 for what feels so clean, fresh, modern. I'll be sticking with it. Clearly this gym needs a complete refurbishment with fresh equipment and needs to be kept exceptionally clean and maintained at all times. I felt like I was in a gym in the 90s or something.

Positive experience: Been with Virgin active for about 3 years ( at Canary Wharf and mostly at Streatham ) and I love it! It’s a great part of my life, the place where I get to unwind and have some much needed me time. Management in Streatham is very good, go to Salman for any help and he will assist you quickly and professionally. The pool is quiet small and not always keep very cleanly sadly and showering before entering the water is not enforced as it should , that’s the only thing that I wish it would be taken better care off (hence why 4 stars ). Amazing instructors that besides being lovely people, go above and beyond like Maggie, Murleen and Serena. Overall there is a nice atmosphere. Towels, soap and body cream are provided which is a bonus.
Positive experience: Hey! Could you please put a stair master in the Virgin gym in Streatham, I pay £100 monthly and it's not helpful that it doesn't have everything.
Negative experience: Most of the staff are lovely and friendly however with one exception. I do not pay nearly £70 to be treated rudely by a member of staff. When I was setting up to do my workout he told me to move somewhere else as he was doing training with a client in that spot. I felt really upset because I really pay a lot of money and this is unacceptable, possibly don’t ask people to move if they have already set up and are only taking up a reasonable amount of space . As a woman it felt really sad and disappointing to be spoken to like this by a male member of staff. Made me uncomfortable and I’ll be cancelling my subscription

Fantastic experience: Staff are incredibly supportive and so professional especially the manager, I was having a health problem due to diabetes and the way the staff helped me was simply amazing all sorted within minutes
Negative experience: Held off writing this review for almost a year. This gym is run down and in desperate need of refurbishment. The equipment is very dated and often broken. Everything is a bit grubby. Free weights and gym floor space pretty smaller, with a massive and largely unused cardio room upstairs - makes no sense. Aside from the pool and steam/sauna rooms, this feels like a budget gym, but still has a relatively expensive price tag. The only thing that's keeping me here is the convenience. Staff are nice though.
Positive experience: Needs a refurb that was promised like the others, but still usable with lots of equipment a few others don't.
Fantastic experience: Love the view from the gym on the top floor. Spacious and lots of equipment. Nice lounge area and changing rooms are also spacious.

Negative experience: Twice the price compared to a regular gym (even tier 3). They haven’t upgraded their weightlifting equipment in years. Safety is not really a priority. They vacuum during gym hours with a Henrietta- anyone could trip and fall. I had to complain 3 times for them to stop doing that. The 2 stars is for the friendly staff in the women’s locker room and the personal trainers - most of them are nice and accommodating.
Positive experience: Good gym and pool. Pool hours are a bit awkward as often only 1 or 2 lanes for lane swimming. So often lanes are a bit overcrowded.

Positive experience: Great location, great gym facilities are good. But the weight lifting area needs more equipments, it’s not even busy in and you have to wait, as there’s only one set of each equipment. Lots of space, could put extra equipment. Otherwise it’s fantastic.

Positive experience: Virgin Active Streatham is well equipped and the reception staff are very friendly, but they really need to focus on the club’s cleanliness. The female changing rooms and entrance to the pool area desperately need a deep clean. The female showers always smell like urine and tiling is discoloured and quite off-putting. Would be a 5/5 if it was cleaner!

Negative experience: This not a review about Streatham Virgin Active specifically rather the brand. I've been a member with them for 10+ years, so clearly good gyms. Yet charging £15 to freeze for a month, without any reference to this charge when freezing via app is misleading. They do reference a 'freeze fee' in the follow up email but fail to outline what that might be. There is no reference to a fee online anywhere. The subsequent experience with customer service, namely 'tough s*/t', has made me call time on Virgin Active.

Negative experience: I would like to write about an accident that occurred to me at the Virgin active in Chiswick Business Park while I was doing my cardio on the curved treadmill almost three weeks ago. While I was walking quickly on this machine, a member of the staff was vacuuming right under the machine where I was, and the floor tool of the vacuum got stuck right under the belt that generates the walking motion. The machine suddenly stopped, causing me to grab the sides unexpectedly and quickly to avoid falling, which jerked two fingers of my left hand and my entire back abruptly backwards. After a few days, I began to feel a lot of pain in my right hand, pain on the entire left side of my body, back, headache, neck, arms, and knees that do not calm down even with rest. As I didn't feel any improvement, I decided to speak with the gym manager (John) to inform him of what happened and explain my situation and also to make him aware of the lack of health and safety that I have observed during my workouts, not only on this occasion, but also during different days while I was doing my workouts on different areas of the Gym, I also requested that the manager to call the cleaning person who caused the accident, who came by and were the meeting was taking place and kindly explained to the manager and to myself what happened and she admitted fault for not taking the appropriate measures to prevent it.During the meeting, the manager asked me about what were my expectations about the resolution of the situation I answered that I would like some kind of assistance to alleviate the pains caused by this accident . The manager answered to my request that he would look into the case and call me back in two days. It has been a week and I still haven't received any response. I have been a loyal customer of this gym for 4 years, and the least I expected from this situation is some kind of assistance to alleviate the pains caused by this accident but is very clear to me at this point that this establishment not only lacks knowledge of health and safety regulations but also shows no concern whatsoever for the care of its customers.

Negative experience: Regret signing up - reasons: 1. Gym is dirty. This applies all over, but particularly in the male changing rooms which are revolting. I don’t use them anymore as I don’t want to get sick. The rest of the clientele leave hair/nails/snot all over the place. Staff do a very poor job of cleaning. Gym floor also could be cleaner. 2. Weird selection of machines. There is no chest fly, which I would have expected to be standard. There is some weird pec fly machine, but it’s not a standard machine and it’s no where near as good as a classic design. A lot of the other machines feel a little dated, although they are in working order. Gym could use more benches. Cardio floor is huge and under used, where as weights area is always busy. I’ll be leaving when my contract ends. I’m keeping a close eye on the dates etc, as I’ve hear that virgin active are a nightmare to leave. I had a better experience previously at PureGym around the corner - wish I’d stayed there (also cheaper)! Update - after Elliot’s response, I thought it might be helpful to post some pictures of the filthy state I found the machines in today

Fantastic experience: From the time I walked to the building I had great experience! Manager at the desk was very friendly polite and explained to me everything. The gym has a great equipment and the changing room for ladies is beautiful and very clean! Compared to other gums I went to … Workout machines are in very good condition and HEEEY! they have a swimming pool! The place is very clean and has a good vibe! Nobody is pushing you or trying to forced their opinion about how do you workout. I had really great first day there and I cant wait to go back there :) Edit: It’s been 2 weeks now and I’m very happy!!!

Negative experience: The gym appears outdated and poorly maintained, with dust visible on the machines. It's overcrowded and quite expensive at £70 per month. I observed a staff member wearing the red Virgin uniform applying a face mask in the changing room, which I found questionable. Additionally, the Wi-Fi is very slow. There's a lack of a reformer studio, and overall, significant improvements are needed. Regret that i joined

Fantastic experience: Clean and well equipped. Great value for money!
Negative experience: A lot of riff-raff. The male changing rooms are like a zoo. The majority of male members delight in clearing their lungs and nose as loudly as possible in the showers. Joyful to listen to phlegm hitting the shower door and floor. Have complained about this several times but nothing has happened. The 2 toilets are always in a state (yes, that’s right, just 2 toilets for all men). Significant number of male members behave like farm yard animals and love to cut their nails and body hair directly onto the floor openly and leave all kinds of mess. The 2 hand basins have - 75%+ of the time - shaving foam and facial and head hair on and around them. *No standards enforced*. Sewage pit. Staff don’t give a !@@@ and/or are too cowardly to do anything about it. People leave weights everywhere and too many treat the equipment with no respect - need to get rid of at least 25% of members given they’ve most likely been raised in zoos (my sincere apologies to all zoos, I mean no offence).
Negative experience: Honestly, I joined virgin active really happily because the facilities were so nice and had everything I needed. But then I moved and needed to cancel my membership… I work really unsociable hours, so could never call up and so I emailed, I emailed 5 times about cancelling before I even got a reply!! I emailed both customer service and a membership advisor at my club!! 5 emails and one reply, then I had to provide evidence which I did immediately even after waiting a month for a reply. After that, they sent DEBT COLLECTORS my way to say I owe them over £300!!! They then began ignoring my emails again before eventually replying saying I owe the membership up until the date I sent the evidence, not the date a month before when I first emailed and got completely ignored for a month!! Honestly it’s not worth joining this gym as if anything ever happens you will have the hassle of your life trying to leave. I’m still having debt collectors contact me which has been so stressful, and I’ve asked virgin to contact them to say I don’t actually owe that balance, which again they have ignored me emails!!!! This has been the most stressful thing ever and I wish I never joined!! Customer service team is absolutely atrocious and I’m seeking legal action.

Negative experience: I had a terrible experience in this place . I signed up for the personal training sessions . Unfortunately there was no consistency as the PT kept on cancelling the sessions last minute . I decided stop the personal training and requested a refund for the seasons wich didn’t take place . I was owed 3 sessions. I got very rudely refused the refund by menager who without discussing it with me , scheduled my owed sessions for some random time in the future that I can not even make and say that because the session are scheduled now he doesn’t owe me anything. . How bad is that . Avoid , specially the personal training . It feels like some kind of scam .

Positive experience: Virgin active just had their gym redone. A much needed upgrade as before was quite poor for a gym, especially with the branding of Virgin Active on its back. New equipment is nice and fresh. Sauna is nice to use however often crowded at busy times during the week.
Negative experience: Average for a gym. Classes cancelled last minute. Classes discontinued at short notice and no notice given to members.
Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed at the poor service and neglect I have received from this branch. I ask for my account to be put on hold by a member of the receptionist staff on the 12th of June 2023 as I was due to travel in August. The only payment that was ment to be taken out on the 1st of July was £15 until my return in September. I came back two weeks later to check if my request was actioned only to find the receptionist Guido did not record my request therefore missed the deadline to make sure the correct payment was set up to be taken in July. Clearly this is not my fault therefore should not be penalised. After three attempts and back forth emails with head office I came back from my holiday to find a letter threatening me With a county a court judgement. This is clearly unacceptable. My advice make sure all communications are made via email as it seems that Virgin Gym staff cannot be trusted .

Positive experience: It has all the makings of a great gym and some fabulous instructors and great classes. However they are super stingy with the Aircon so the studios at this time of year are horribly hot and they really need more hair straighteners in the changing rooms. Plus the majority of the lockers are locked all of the time as people seem to leave stuff in them over night so often there are very few lockers available. Also not enough classes at the weekend and they are always full.

Negative experience: Do not join this gym! I wish I had read the reviews before signing up. Customer service is so bad. I forgot to bring my card despite my picture being on the screen so they are aware I am a member as well as being charged for the membership. I was refuse entry and was not allowed in! As a nurse I go to the gym for my health and wellbeing but unfortunately this gym is very unprofessional, they are rude and I would not recommend! The worst thing you can do it join and then you are stuck paying for a gym that does not value you as a customer. Please look for another gym that will value you so you have peace of mind when you are working out!

Fantastic experience: Streatham is my local and tbh favourite VA. The compact gym has everything I need to create a great workout, it doesn’t feel cramped and I find the members and staff warm and welcoming and a lovely sense of community here. Reading some of the other reviews I will add at the times I have visited no equipment or facilities have been broken or out of order and there is sufficient and constant cleaning clearly in progress. I regularly attend classes and thoroughly enjoy these also. My happy place

I reported 2 separate incidents of the same man being physically aggressive (grabbing / shoving) & abusive (shouting / gesturing / swearing) to women in the pool area. Both times it was initially taken seriously then dropped without action.

Negative experience: IF YOU’RE THINKING Of JOINING THIS CLUB… PLEASE DON’T! Should your name be hard to pronounce , you will be frowned upon! You’ll be greeted by an angry manageress who appears to just have a fancy tittle as a manager! She could not manage her own emotions let alone manage a club! There’s always something broken in this club wether it’s the gates, the sauna or the equipment! Good luck booking an induction session with a personal trainer too as they will book it but won’t confirm or answer you! There’s a risk of your things being stollen as well as they aren’t responsible about it! Doesn’t matter if you’ve been a member for 11 years on the trot, they won’t listen to what the customer has to say. A bunch of arrogant people who aren’t there to help you in any way! In fact I am quite happy, I no longer have to pay an overpriced membership to this average gym! Good luck retaining business in the future with this attitude!
Negative experience: This review is purely for customer service. I am not a member. VA customer service is super rude and condescending. Until 30/09 they had an offer where you would not pay joining fee if you subscribed. On 30/09 at 10pm I wanted to pull the trigger but their website returned "internal error 500" during checkout. In the morning(01/10) when the offer expired I called them to explain the situation but I was hit with "the promotion had expired". They dont need nor deserve my business. John from CS told me that "I could have called or gone into a club" when I saw the error...ignorant comment not knowing my circumstances..

Negative experience: Sauna and stream room are often broken and closed, the changing areas not cleaned enough, clear cost cutting happening including cancelling body attack classes that were always full and replacing them with boring virgin hit classes that barely have people in them. The staff don’t appear engaged. The only good thing is so many people have left that it is rarely busy and you always get to use the machine you want. When things are closed they don’t tell you, so you turn up to swim and the pool is closed.

This is now back to normal after our maintenance team were able to get the right parts delivered. The sauna has not been off for some time now, have you popped over to the club recently to enjoy it? We have now recruited two new Lifeguards which will see a lesser extent to the 15 minute closures we have had previously. It's very rare that this happened, I do think you were unfortunate here. Everything has been going swimmingly recently, so please check it out and let us know what you think.
Negative experience: I’m not sure if the people I’m dealing with are directly linked to this club but I am currently trying to cancel my membership due to work hours changing meaning I can no longer afford their £60 a month and it’s proving to be ridiculously difficult. Evidence has been provided from the owner of the business I work at regarding my hour change yet this is not good enough for them. Given the current situation with the cost of living etc you think they would understand that peoples circumstances can change in the blink of an eye and a 12 month contract is not ideal for everyone. I am actually disgusted at the lack of understanding they are having as a company and it’s leaving a really sour taste. To summarise, don’t join virgin active because if your circumstances change they don’t care at all.

Fantastic experience: A brilliant gym with fantastic facilities. I love using the swimming pool which is slightly heated. The place has a modern feel about it from the changing rooms to the equipment. The staff are very friendly.

Negative experience: Not my main club, but I went once (and complained due to appalling service). It was a bit of a heated exchange and I used a curse word (to describe the service). They subsequently contacted head office who sent me a warning letter saying if I 'used this kind of language' again that I would be banned and that it was my 'final' warning - despite no other warnings being given (at any other clubs) or any other mention of this previously. I now know why the lady came up to me to ask my name after the above incident (instead of just raising the issue with me directly). I don't appreciate that kind of subterfuge when I all I want to do is to go to the gym. I won't be returning to this club if I can avoid it.

Virgin Active takes great pride in providing all our members and staff with a relaxing, enjoyable and safe club and working environment. We take the safety and comfort of our members and staff extremely seriously, and have club rules in place to ensure that everyone is clear on what is and what isn’t acceptable.
Positive experience: It's a good gym but I don't think it's worth the money. The dumbbells go above 40kg which is good. The machines let the gym area down as there isn't a full range of machine which you would expect in a gym, and some where broken on my last visit. The sauna and steam room including changing facilities are amazingly clean and tidy.

Negative experience: The real Scam. I have applied for the membership on Friday 3rd of Sep, called them on Monday 6th September to cancel my contract. No response what so ever after being advised to send an email to a guy call Santino 2 times, after 10 days I have called them again and I got response of you have used the gym 2 times and you cannot cancel your membership therefore you have to pay for 12 Months,

As it's stated in our terms and conditions, as long as you have not used your membership, you can contact us and tell us that you want to cancel your membership within seven working days of agreeing to the terms of membership. If you do this, we will refund any joining fee and any membership fees which you have paid to us. If you need to cancel your membership due to unforeseen circumstances, we can look into breaking the contract between yourself and Virgin Active upon receipt of supporting documentation. Negative experience: Please note that this review is for the staff members in virgin active streatham and not the actual gym facilities. I spoke to 4 people in order to cancel my gym membership. No one was actually helpful, no one was competent enough to take ownership and resolve the issue. On my first phone call I simply requested to cancel my membership and the staff member said that I should pay £4, but she was not able to explain why I owed £4 when my membership had a freeze and I requested the cancellation way before the cut off date. She said that she will get someone to call me right back to resolve this issue but surprisingly I have not received a call back. A week later I called back and I was informed that I need to pay £18 to cancel my membership, very confused and surprised I was again promised another call, again no ownership and no call back from Shaun who is apparently the man of the situation. For the 3rd time I called back to get my membership cancelled and make sure I don’t get charged £18 because of a staff member not being competent. I spoke to a lady with a fancy job title (operations manager), but i was disappointed to find out that all she could do with this fancy job title was to send an email to Shaun and request another call back, and she was really patronising. Not at any point I have been rude so I really don’t understand the lack of sympathy towards an unhappy customer. PS: no one cared to ask why I decided to cancel my membership: There is one of the reasons, I saw a staff member leave the men’s toilet without washing his hands. This is absolutely unacceptable especially during this pandemic. Maybe you should train your staff members to treat customers with respect and also wash their hands.

Negative experience: Nice layout, very niche. Tad on the small side and is years behind other London Virgin actives which have mostly been refurbished and upgraded to the new arm band systems (entry to club + digital lockers). Perhaps an upgrade is on the cards shortly?

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting service. My wife is a Doctor who has been working in a Covid Ward since this COVID-19 lockdown began. She was informed that she would have a notification once her 12 month membership expires and given the option to opt for a rolling contract. Instead no communication made and they increased the cost of membership. Then she’s told that she needs to pay to end the contract??? My wife is now 34 weeks pregnant so cannot come to the gym, but still they expect for us to pay to exit a rolling contract!! So when it comes to selling the membership, they are happy to waiver the Joining Fee, however when it comes to cancelling a rolling contract for an NHS worker who is now pregnant, they are not even willing to waiver the cancellation fee!! This is why I feel that these are absolutely disgusting people and would encourage people not to join this club. They’ll make it as difficult as possible so that people just end up giving in.

With any of our memberships they will automatically roll over onto a month to month contract once the 12 months are finished. After this the cancellation of a membership is just a one month notice. We can also have a membership cancelled early due to medical reasons with documentation that can be discussed with the club.

Negative experience: Poor Experience, premium price! I don't usually expect a lot from very crowded gyms. But this was really disappointed me. Male changing rooms were disgusting! Sauna was warm and dirty and the Steak room! The steam room was left off and it smelled OFF TOO! Very disappointed, don't see the point to be a member here when there are much cheaper and cleaner gym.

Negative experience: The worst customer service have every experienced. They literally just ignore complaints. They were shutting the pool every five minutes, totally ignored this complaint. Then for some unexplained reason they started playing the music they play in the gym in the rest and relaxation areas, the sauna, steam and relaxation area. What is meant to be a soothing and relaxing experience gives you a headache. Complained three times the the management there who said would get back and never did. Tried to complain to head office, after three attempts someone called me back to tell me basically they didn't care. I only pay the extra for the sauna and steam as other gyms in area have better pools(its tiny here and shuts constantly) and are much cheaper, I will be voting with my leaving feet.
Positive experience: So many classes to join free once you become a member, love the iyenga yoga the teachers are the very best to learn from
