Fantastic experience: Always excellent experience
Negative experience: There has been no hot water for women bathing for at least half a year. I have emailed but have not replied. If you want to take a bath after the sauna after exercising, don't choose this gym room. It is very inconvenient. the membership will be canceled.
Fantastic experience: Good parking with lots of machines available. Did my workout at 3.30, it was busy but got on all the machines I needed, even with All the New Years Resolutioners. Clean and tidy changing room and good shower facilities. Definitely go again when I'm around.
Negative experience: Having read other reviews and being a regular user of this gym I had to add my comments. The good points - cost, some of the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The negatives - some of the members are a problem with their disgusting habits. The changing rooms are too small and when busy it's not a pleasant experience at all. Too many members treat it like their own bathroom. I've seen people shaving at the sink in the toilets, trimming their beards and nostrils in front of the mirrors. Gross - where's the hair going? I don't go to the saunas, again there are members who think it's fine to use them wearing boxer shorts. I try to use the showers as little as possible, they often stink, and people make some weird noises showering. Best just shower at home if that's possible. In short the changing area merits a 1/5 score. They are gross and cramped. The gym itself is largely ok. As other reviews have stated there really should be some cleaning equipment. I saw the business response saying they were from covid. If your members want the option to clean equipment before or after use then you should accommodate that regardless, I think it's just a cost cutting measure that these are no longer available. Especially important considering numerous reviews question hygiene and cleanliness. The gym itself is a touch overcrowded. I don't dare go after 4pm as it's far too busy. I've spoke to other members who feel the same. Some equipment is under high demand. Some days it can be quite frustrating trying to use what you want to. Doesn't help when some staff and gym goers pair up using a machine then do 4+ sets. As at January 2025, there are getting to be too many people filming their workouts now. Again if it's not staff producing content for their Instagram (which I can understand to an extent) more and more regular gym users are doing this now too, it's getting a bit much. Does noone just workout and not film themselves these days? Lastly. Far too many gym users don't put equipment away after use. For example leaving benches at cables machines and squat racks for other users to have to move. Similar with weights, these are left all over the place, or everywhere except where they are supposed to be.
Fantastic experience: Good range of machines, spacious and helpful, friendly staff. Also very clean and the sauna was great after my workout.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, staff are always very helpful and love that there's a sauna. Just wanted to say especially enjoyed my first class tonight - body combat with Jean - she was wonderful and the class was fun with a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere
Fantastic experience: For 25 a month its an absolute bargain. Loads of equipment for cardio, powerlifting, crossfit. Even a small sauna.

Fantastic experience: This gym opened their doors without any ties. Their email assistant was efficient and helpful. While wandering in Glasgow in 2021 this gym helped me to achieve my body goals. From the Millroad Drive and the JD was a pleasant drive and always confident at the parking lot with an Aldi close the area. Very quick-time attentive responders and chill and educated trainers inside. If I would go back to Scot land I would pick this up again.

Negative experience: I've been going to this gym for a little less than a month and as someone who has been a gym goer for the past 10 years of my life i strongly recommend to stay away! Male toilets (in the changing rooms) have constantly had at least one of the two soap dispensers out of soap (at times both). Place is fairly big but feels cramped both because it gets very busy with group of young men that group around and the way gym equipments are set up. Only two proper squat racks which are quite unstable, and have a fairly scarce number of plates. Benches are narrow af and don't thave any safety bars. Cardio equipment is good for 80s standards. The most annoying thing about this gym is the mess with weights being all over the gym and not a single soul to tell people they should put their weights away. In summary, this gym is a money making machine with no care for quality standards.STAY AWAY

Negative experience: Good kit but really need to improve hygiene - no hand soap and changing rooms smell
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We do provide hand soap in all of our gym toilets, but we apologise if you found the dispenser empty at any time. They do get checked at regular intervals by our teams and restocked when needed. JD Gyms
Negative experience: I was surprised, there were no hygiene rules to use gym machines !!!

Our staff are the ones who will clean the gym properly and they do so on a regular rota basis. Negative experience: Revolting is the nicest word I can use to describe how 'clean' this place is. Below, I've attached pictures of the toilets at 5 am, right after opening. The lockers were supposed to be cleaned overnight. In the second picture, I observed this mud in the same place for over a week. There is literally a mushroom growing in the sinks in the women's toilets. Smell is horrendous.

Negative experience: I started going to this gym as I loved the fact it had a sauna in changing rooms. Unfortunately, I am leaving, as this gym is not only small and overcrowded, but very dirty and some people who go there are truly disgusting and have no manners or etiquette. The other day a lady was eating biscuits in the sauna while pouring tones of oil on herself. Today someone was drying their stinky clothes in sauna! The smell of the showers is revolting and I feel the cleaners just wipe the water instead of clean it property. Mats are dirty and if you touch the floors in one of the exercising rooms your hands or clothes will be dark of dirt. Even the pure gym has better cleaning standards. On the top of that there is no cleaning products to wipe equipment, but I guess after experiencing all of the above why am I even surprised. Only good thing ( I guess) is price, but I would prefer to pay £10 more and not get Blastomycosis.

Fantastic experience: I go to the gym for the classes. Spin - With Stephen and now Craig provides you with a spin class available every single day and even if you are spin fanatic like me, double classes! Body Pump - I have no upper body strength, but with Jean's class i feel like superwoman! What i love about both of these classes is that you have a great support system from the instructors, along with a good bunch of people with no judgement.

Negative experience: Say no you don’t want PT as you weren’t aware of the price and the guy just starts provoking you and wants to follow you on every machine you go on. Disappointed and decided to leave because of this.

Negative experience: Edit: that's a shocking reply from a company to a client on a public space insinuating that I can't read or understand the difference between hot and cold shower do not make fool of me I strongly suggest whoever wrote this is sent for media training because it is an inappropriate response on a public space. I haven't spoken to anyone about this problem so you must be thinking I am someone else which tells me that someone else's complained about this problem before me. There are reviews about cold showers on Trustpilot as well so it's an ongoing problem - not a problem with my sight. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! I've joined this gym couple of months now and NEVER experienced warm water when taking a shower!! There were even signs explaining there was fault with them but seems it never got fixed! If you want to take sauna and have a cold shower that's cool! Use any of them!!! What's more shower rooms ABSOLUTELY STINKS in the morning. They are definitely not cleaned everyday!
Hi We have 6 showers at this gym, 5 of them are hot showers, 1 is a cold water shower, this one is clearly labelled. You have been using the cold water shower. If you would like a hot shower, please use any of the other 5 showers. We are aware that you have spoken to the team in the gym regarding this. If you are still unsure, please speak with them again. Negative experience: Please can you add sanitary products in the girl toilets. Also the fact you cannot get in and out without your phone is ridiculous…My phone had died and no member of staff answered any calls…another member seen me waiting for 25 minutes and let me out. I should be able to use a code just like any other gym. Also your equipment is dirty and you need better air con. Not great

We encourage members to attend the gym with suitable battery in their phone to prevent any issues from occurring, and we have plug sockets around the gym which you're more than welcome to use whilst you're training. Positive experience: fine gym space but seems over capacity midweek nights, music choice is nauseating and the shower rooms need cleaning more often nd tbh I'd be away if it weren't the only gym with a sauna in a 5 mile radius.

Positive experience: Half decent gym. 5 minutes drive for me. Not as good as JD North. A few months back the manager decided to hide all the cleaning products. One table with cleaning products was left upstairs, so you cannot say that there is none. A lot of out of order sings. The most annoying thing is that the staff are letting everyone in. All you need to do is press the bell and you are in. Doesn't happen at JD North. A lot of trainers have left since I started going so there is an obvious problem with management.
Hi Michal, I'm glad to read that you think we're at least half decent! That's a start We haven't "hidden" the cleaning products. These were a hangover from the good ol' COVID-19 days, so we've just removed them. Staff will let people in and out for a variety of reasons. Negative experience: If you ate looking for old fixed weights holding onto its last wore on the cable and body builders taking drugs openly and fixed benches. This is your place! Health and safety informed as well as the police

Negative experience: Out of order, out of order, OUT OF ORDER. That’s basically the summary for the equipment these days, compound that with peak times and you may as well not bother going. At this point, it gets a star because it is a gym that, in fact, exists. If there was another close gym that had a comprehensive and versatile amount of equipment I’d go there. But I suppose that would be a moot point, this gym has that, except they come pre “out of order” on arrival it seems.

Negative experience: Your equipment is dirty, the floor makes your clothes black with dirt if you need to kneel for an exercise. There are many labels missing from some of the machines. I’ve complained before. If someone hurts themselves the gym will be liable.
Fantastic experience: The punching bag and bracket was broken and rendered out of use. Fortunately the general manager was quick to act, had ordered a new bag and parts and got us back up and running as quickly as he could. He relentlessly pursued it daily for the handful of people who use the punch bag in the gym. Very proactive team to ensure all equipment is working and if needs repaired and or changed it’s done as robustly as possible. Thanks again general manager! Top lad. J

Negative experience: Gym and equipment are decent like most JDs. However - ventilation and AC is poor/non existent. Machines, especially treadmills are filthy have clearly never / rarely been cleaned.

Positive experience: Decent gym for the price, well equipped with weights and other machines. Only thing that bugs me is that there's only one punch bag, which is a mega pain since someone like myself who uses them everyday needs to wait. Should at least have like a lot of gyms, then you can get your workout over and done with.

Negative experience: Not sure how this gym managed to fall from grace so hard. Where do I start... Lack of gym cleaning equipment anywhere!!! If you're lucky you may find a roll and tiny anti bac spray upstairs. But good luck in securing a machine to clean. Which leads me to my 2nd point. Almost half the cardio machines are never working. You'll find yourself queuing or walking up and down until a machine is free then it's competition from there with other people who have the same goal. The air con is rarely on so the gym is always hot and stuffy (I and many others have complained a number of times). The weights area is always over crowded, can be waiting upwards of 20 minutes to use a machine. And if you do get the chance of securing a machine, be prepared to finish your reps/sets quickly because you'll get a bunch of people standing waiting for you to finished with their arms crossed and you'll hear them huffing and puffing. They've now got rid of the code entry to enter the gym and is now based on app-code access..so basically you must have a smart phone (to download the app) and data available.

Negative experience: Poor air conditioning. It’s roasting in here. 20 degrees outside in summer middle of the day 2pm and all the air conditioning units are off! I am not happy with the money I’m paying for this kind of service. I hope the gym addresses the issue as soon as possible.

Negative experience: Been a member since it opened. A good range of kit across the gym especially for strength training. In recent months standards have really slipped: * only one cleaning station which upstairs and means none of the weights and cardio equipment is wiped down after use * a number of spin bikes and the only assault bike have been broken for months * there only seems to be one Spin instructor (Stephen), he’s really good, reliable and turns up to his classes unlike many other instructors but it means there’s not a lot of classes to choose from * the aircon in the Spin studio is now off & can’t be turned on by the instructor. The class is really hot and the glass wall, door and mirrors quickly steam up with pools of sweat on the floor * the yoga studio has the main gym aircon unit which is always on and leaves classes freezing with the instructor shouting over the noise of the fans blasting out cold air. Not exactly what you want from attending a yoga class There doesn’t appear to be a gym manager around and staff aren’t overly interested when members try to make comments or advise that kit is broken etc.

Negative experience: Been a member for 3 years but cancelled now. Place has a good range of equipment however everyday there's something broken and it take at least a week to get it fixed. Far too busy at peak times, the changing rooms are always full of guys weirdly hanging around the changing rooms or taking pictures of themselves. Guys toilets are always stinking and only one cleaning station in the entire gym. Kids sharing codes and running through the barriers at night, staff don't seem to care and it's these cheapskates that tend to ruin the equipment and leave the place in a mess. Spin room is shut at 10pm so can't have a cycle after this time, although the room itself is rarely cleaned apart from the glass windows so I'm not sure why it's closed? No spin bikes on the gym floor at all. Place is full of posers who you would think could afford to go to a private gym if they were that into fitness, but instead hang about JD watching others.

Fantastic experience: Amazing spacious place to do workout, surprised to see best equipments with clean and good environment, there are so many gyms in the surroundings but i chose this because it provides, sauna, hot and cold showers, studios and much more. Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful and friendly,love ladies separate sauna beautiful and spotless. Although I was hesitant about joining,,I'm on cancer treatment and in my late 50s I'm so glad I joined . Getting fitter each week and it's a real confidence boost (written for Denise McGowan)

Negative experience: I have giv details 3 time of this cleaner, regarding his attitude problems nd behaviour , is not acceptable, male cleaner. management need to take action this night time cleaners If they cant take action on this i cant to gym in this atmosphere

Negative experience: Totally crammed and the facility is really filthy, especially the toilets and changing area. In the gym, pins are missing and broken equipment and the staff is not really helpful so I am out.
Negative experience: I felt embarrassed by the way the staff had spoken to me and pulled me in front of everybody for not putting the weights away, even though the weights were on when I had started and others around me were leaving the weights on. Moreover, while I was working out, a few guys left nearly 100kg weight on the machine and walked away, and the same staff just stood there and said nothing. The staff then pulled me in front of everyone and literarily ordered me to put the weights back, she was intimidating and un pleasant . I believe the behaviour was uncalled for and I felt I was singled out perhaps because of my skin colour.The staff then threatened me that they would call the manager if I didn't put the weights away. I eventually put the weights away because I didn't want any conflict, she still called the manager who came up to me with an angry face, looked at me, and walked away without speaking to me. Finally, when I went to the manager's office to speak to the her, She had the audacity to threaten me and tell me to go away, She did not try to resolve the issue and had a very unapproachable attitude. what's the point of having a manager if they're so stuck up? A good manager should be solving the issue and calming the situation, not making it awkward for the member. In my opinion, the staff displayed unprofessional behavior and lacked the proper training and skills to resolve conflicts in a calm and professional manner. The gym environment was hostile, and I would not recommend it to others due to my negative experience with the staff and management. I personally believe that the female staff is really stuck up and rude. Not just because I was treated badly, but also because the staff and manager don't seem to care about customer service. I would personally avoid a place that is so hostile and run by unprofessional people. I would stay away.
Fantastic experience: Cross a livestock market with a nightclub and this is what you get. Didn't know where to look sometimes with the outfits on display. Nevermind nip slips i nearly seen a few birds corn from last nights dinner. Also seen a legend with a demolition man haircut and denim short dungarees with nothing on underneath doing calisthenics. You know it's real when you see that. Aside from those distractions it's probably the best equipment, staff and facilities of any gym I've been to.

Negative experience: decent gym with good facilities and equipment however customer service was terrible. i stupidly left my £300 watch in the changing room beside my bag and went to blow my nose. I came back and it was gone, someone in the changing room told me one of the staff took it so i went down to check and they told me it was locked in a safe ??? and id have to come back another day which i did. they then tell me staff member took it home with him for some odd reason??? . i asked them who it was but they didnt tell me and the staff member who took my watch hasn’t returned since . its been a while i’ve asked many times but no response. long story short the staff member stole my watch and left the gym for good. hoping a higher up sees this and helps resolve it its been a few months but still gutted.

Negative experience: Very bad experience withe them today I brings my frind after I got emil tell me u can brings one of your friend from Friday to Sunday. They didn't let him enter to the gym I will back to my purgym the are the best and some stuff they not good at all
Negative experience: Very bad experience I got my membership plus they send me an email every couple months to brings one of my friends to the gym so today after 16 months I brings one my frind in the morning and they didn't let him enter the gym and they told me very bad way u can't brings your friends to the gym for free

Negative experience: The instructors never turn up for the classes. Maryhill is meant to be really good for classes. The equipment is always broken or missing pins
Negative experience: Worst gym with the commitment ever.. I joined the gym where in the offer was provided with half price joining for 1st month and eventually they charged me with extra £32 saying the offer contains joining fees and other term as well. Disappointed within the first month itself due to bad commitment and offer.
Hi Sreejith, The offer you joined on was "Half price joining fee" - the joining fee is usually £20, so in this instance it was £10. When you join you pay for your first month up front, which was £21.99 at the time you joined. £21.99 + 10 (half price) joining fee = £31.99 This was the correct price and this price was presented clearly before you committed to join. When you do join, if you aren't happy or simply change your mind you have a 14 day cooling off period. Take care JD GYMS
Positive experience: Very warm. Cardio machines dont have fans. Changing rooms and sauna are upstairs. Lockers require padlock.
Positive experience: I have experienced that the female staff are not very helpful they are very stuck up,and male staff are so good pleasant,so good to have a chat with,manager is not very approchable. She is full of attitude and does not come across pleasant.

Positive experience: I have just joined this gym. Positives are that the equipment is modern and easy to find the programs that are similar to my previous gym equipment. Parking outside is convenient and the ambience is quite good. It’s good that it’s open 24 hours and the other JD gym closer to me is also open late. To improve, it would be nice to have some means of wiping/cleaning the equipment before and after use, especially with all these weird and wonderful diseases we seem to have these days. There didn’t seem to be any free tap water available. And the entry system is a bit tricky to get to grips with as a new user. There is currently one lane that works with the qr code system, but the signage at the front door is pretty unhelpful in directing you to the correct lane. And the alternative, I found, was to contact the gym for a manual code… by email! Thankfully I got in after a few minutes. One of the signs also seems to suggest that you may have trouble getting into the gym if you just popped back out to your car to get something, which also did not inspire much confidence. The previous gym I used didn’t have these issues so I will see how it goes after a month or so before deciding whether or not to continue.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, Sauna is 5am till 10pm, Classes included in the price of £19.99 a month, 1 month rolling contract so no bound. Friendly staff
Positive experience: Gym used to be good when opened but now had become the go to place for kids straight out of high school. Changing rooms become a place to hangout and the pics without the bother of who is changing or not. Staff do not make frequent inspections to try disperse this. Perhaps time for a change... Great start but fast declining
Negative experience: We joined JD Glasgow South about 2 months ago, being interested mainly in classes, and it's really been a very bad experience until today that we decided to cancel our memberships. 1) It all started when we went to a couple of classes after checking the Class Timetable which is uploaded on the gym's website, however the trainers never showed up. After the 3rd time it happened, we asked some other trainers who were present at the gym at that time and the response was that the trainers are probably on holiday and that we should better call the gym to double check that the classes will happen before we come again! 2) Although it's not nice having to call the gym before every class to confirm that they're gonna happen, we started calling before the classes and, yes, there was a time that we were told that the class would happen and the trainer never showed up! There was also another time that the response on the phone was that they don't know if the class would happen because the trainer that does it is often absent! Every time we complained about lack of organisation and waste of our time, the staff/trainers started blaming the management team. 3) We went to a 11:30 class on a Saturday morning -again according to the online Class Timetable- to find out that the class happened at 10:30! 4) When trainers go on holiday, you either have to be present in their last class to be informed or follow their personal social media! Also, 9/10 times there is no coverage arranged by the gym unless the trainers themselves arrange with someone else to cover them. 5) Today was our last day and chance at JD Glasgow South. We called the gym in the morning to ask if the 19:30 'Conditioning' Class with S. would happen and they said it should happen as usual, but that we should probably call again before we go to the class to double check. We called them again 40mins before the class to double check, but there was no response on the phone. We went to the gym at the place where the classes happen, waited until 19:40 without anyone showing up. We went downstairs to search for the trainer and when we found him he didn't seem to know that he had a class today and he asked what time it is! He said the class won't happen because there aren't enough people, and that there should be at least 5 people for them to do the class. We said we were not aware that they follow this policy, we are unable to know whether >5 people will attend a class given that they have no booking system, and we complained because we were waiting for him upstairs and he didn't even come to check whether there are enough people and to inform us that the class won't happen. His response was that he doesn't do the class anymore because there aren't enough people. We said that the class is advertised in the online Class Timetable with his name next to it and he said that he's not the one doing the Class Timetable, but management and that we would have to find someone from management to speak to! Zero apologies of course, although we went to the gym for HIS class!
Negative experience: Nice place,but sometimes when you think some equipment are free , few gym pumps come to tell you that they are using it as well…so they use many equipment in the same time , and they just on mobile phones..doing nothing actually..
Fantastic experience: The facilities are excellent and the gym is very clean and tidy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I was just passing through the city so came in for a single session, but if I lived in Glasgow, this is the gym I'd be training at.

Positive experience: Pretty big and well equipped. The ventilation in the changing room could be better tough
Negative experience: Joke of a gym that not long opened. Only been about 6 times, but every machine I have used either been broken, cuts out or have parts missing. I ever only seen 2 members of staff all too busy until your want to hire them. If you cancel your direct debit they will remove your access to the gym even when you still have a few weeks left until next payment. I am guessing access in and out by phone only is way to control this, worse over priced gym I ever been too.

Negative experience: Edit: dropped a star not just for what I said below BUT HOW DO MOST OF YOUR MACCHINES HAVE NO PIN FOR THE WEIGHTS?!?! Spend half the session hunting for a pin. Honestly probably one of the worst gyms in terms of equipment always being broken, and even worse, broken for ages. Once it’s fixed I swear two days later it’s broken again. Stopped training here and now only use this gym for the sauna and the treadmill which is the only reason it’s getting two stars. It’s a pity as it’s so close to where I stay and I feel when things are actually fixed and working, it can be a good place for training.
Negative experience: This gym is really frustrating, whilst it does have a good range of equipment the machines are constantly breaking down, I have never known a gym to have so many issue's. Sometimes the machines are out of use for weeks & it's not a quiet gym so you either need to skip your planned routine or watch like a Hawk. The calf machine has broken down at least 4 times this year so far... Seems like a lack of care from when it first opened.
Negative experience: The last three days there has been no cleaning supplies to wipe down equipment with. No towel or blu-roll available, just spray. And the signs tell you not to spray it directly onto machines, so what do we do? Machines are disgusting and stinking, please fix this!
Positive experience: Good gym, only issue is the 1 entry per day, strength morning, evening cardio, have to get staff to let me in 2nd time

Positive experience: One thing that annoys me is the clips on the cable machines are always missing. Staff are really nice. It's a budget gym and not particularly big either. Still, plenty of equipment. It does seem to take them a long time to get damaged machines fixed. I'm more into free weights and cables anyway.
