Many members appreciate the variety of classes and the high-quality fitness equipment available.

Positive experience: Nice but no jacuzzi
Positive experience: Have recently joined due to bluelight discount and an offer for the remaining of January free. It is extremely competitive in terms of pricing compared to many other gym memberships, it is more high end in comparison to leisure centres but not yet there as a high end brand. The classes are great, plenty of choices and good instructors. However you do need to be on ball when booking for a popular class, if you miss this you are then added into a waiting list which generally seems to get you a spot. The gym area is very clean, lots of cleaning wipes around and a water filter. There was not enough treadmills available on a busy Saturday morning, therefore had to wait….. The changing rooms and showers are spacious, but it is very dated. It’s quite dark and grim. I have not yet tried swimming but it seems popular with classes. Will take my son swimming and pay the £7.50 entry, seems reasonable. The dining area seems busy, lots of families eating. Menu options caters for most, but expensive. Burgers seems very expensive and for that cost I would rather eat at a restaurant.
Positive experience: The gym has a good location and friendly staff, which is always appreciated. However, the layout of the free weights area could use some work. Placing them in a confined square space makes it feel dark and cluttered, which isn’t ideal for a comfortable workout. It would be great if the management could take some inspiration from other gyms, like Nuffield in Crawley, which have a more open and user-friendly design.
Fantastic experience: The team are amazing. The cafe ladies make the club feel like my 2nd home, and are always so welcoming. Reception team always really helpful when I need them!

Negative experience: Having been a loyal member paying continuously for years when not going when you come to cancel you tell them they ignore you and send in debt collection agency be warned despite being told on three occasions - very very poor don’t use !!!!! In response to their response they were informed in writing twice and by phone once where I was told it was ok - THEN they sent in the DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY with NO Communication!!!!!!

Negative experience: I have just started my membership here at Nuttfield after cancelling The Gym Strood. I love coming here in off-peak hours as there’s plenty of space and equipment to use, it’s a lot quieter than The Gym. The staff seem really nice on first impressions, I look forward to signing up to their classes. There is good hygiene with sanitiser stations. I’m always seeing staff cleaning. I did think with the price our members are paying it would be more up-kept. This is the most money I have paid for a gym membership yet it seems overrated. It seems quite run down and outdated. The biggest downfall is the air-con - There are aircon’s around but you cannot feel them especially with the sun beaming in the daytime. I’m always sweating out because of how stuffy it feels. Overall, I don’t think I’ll be renewing my membership in a years time just because I’m paying over the moon for a basic gym and swimming pool.

Positive experience: The pool felt colder than 32 degrees as my little girls lips went blue very quickly! Also annoying that there aren't any family changing rooms only mens and women's and what's more surprising there isn't any baby changing facilities in the mens or women's changing area! I was also surprised that there aren't more cubicles to change in as it is very open planned which as you can imagine we are not very happy about when our daughter goes in with her dad to get changed Also annoying that the lockers you gave to bring your own padlock. Having said that the shower room was nice - the water was warm and the shower heads actually got you wet! Also LOVE the swimming costume dryer!!! Also like to add that there isn't any clear signage inside the changing room to where the exit is and where the pool is either - myself and other people get `turned around' easily when inside Definitely room for improvement but the foundations are there

Negative experience: Pool area is tired, water is murky and always warm. Only one lane to swim in as always lessons going on. The showers are grubby. The club has gone down hill in the last couple of years. You used to get that private members feeling but now you may as well go to Medway Park.

Negative experience: Left me Puma trainers (good condition) in an unlocked locker on a quiet Thursday evening whilst going poolside, came back 20 mins later to change and sadly my trainers had been nicked!! Never to be found or retuned again!

Negative experience: Staff are mostly lovely but the gym is falling apart. Needs some serious investment. Any issues can take months to fix. It took almost a year just to get new water machines which is just crazy.

Negative experience: I've been using this gym facility for years (on and off) since it was esporta, virgin active etc and now Nuffield. The premises has never been so bad. The equipment is tired and dated. There doesn't seem to be any plans on keeping the premises or equipment up to date. Cancelled my membership last year and take my kids swimming as its local but even the changing facilities are a joke. They can't even fix curtain hooks to gives kids privacy, especially when some blokes just walk completely starkers from the showers to their lockers. The place needs serious investment and there are now more gyms in the area way better whilst getting more value for the monthly fee. Mould in the shower area too, leaks regularly. The whole place needs a complete overhaul. Poor management when I've discussed with reception in having notices up at least. Update May 2024 - again upkeep of the facilities is slow. The swimwear dryer in the men's has been 'temporarily' out of service for well over a month now. Would never pay the membership fee - absolute rip off for what you get in return.

The spin dryer is now fixed, and the delays were because we were unable to fix this equipment in-house. Negative experience: I have been a member of the gym for over a year. I love the staff and the friendly atmosphere. However, the maintainence is shocking. Everytime I go there is at least a few facilities out of order. To start with, the jacuzzi was removed. Then the sauna was refurbished and is now out of order again. The swim suit dryers have been missing for sometime now. The bottle filling tap in the weights area has been broken for several weeks and has not been repaired inspite of bringing this to the reception staff's attention. I don't know if this is a poir maintenance firm contracted or is it just cost cutting. It would be so nice to have everything working for once

Negative experience: Gone downhill sadly, that exclusive membership feel has been eroded away with the hoards of members, tired equipment and outdated changing rooms. The once envious 25m pool is now packed with kids for lessons. The towell and handrails are literally hanging off. The pipework is ancient and broken and I wouldn't leave anything valuable in the lockers. What shame, they sold out! I wont be renewing membership.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of the club for many years and travelled to other Nuffield clubs too with the multi-gym access which I have to say is another good benefit of the membership. The team at this club are extremely friendly and it feels almost like a family run club. It has had some issues, but I know the staff are working hard to resolve them. The range of equipment available on the gym floor is extremely varied and there are lots of free classes to participate in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the club.

Negative experience: I really like this gym I think once you go upstairs the facilities are very good and to be honest, the only thing that keeps me going back is that all the personal trainers are extremely friendly and helpful. However Apart from two Of the staff, it looks like the rest of them have been forced to work out. It's like a jail sentence to them to crack a smile to show some intelligence is beyond them. This is simply now a cutthroat And ruthless Money, making Company. Why they call themselves a health and well-being centre. I do not know the club is run by accountants who all care about Excel spreadsheets and the bottom line. They used to turn off the accuse that Jacuzzi for three or four months stating they couldn't get Parts then eventually they got rid of it, adding quite a bit of profit to the bottom line. I have been ill this week and I really wanted to use the sauna guess what that's been broken down all week as well. When you try calling it will take 9 to 16 minutes to get through to somebody if you ever do get through to somebody I do hope the senior man to read this review because I also signed on a new member last week who was very dubious about joining and again at the front desk They were absolutely useless

Negative experience: Facilities e.g water machine have been broken for months and never get replaced. Also the cafe staff close the cafe 15 minutes before the published time which is ridiculous.

Negative experience: Sadly the gym is going downhill, I don’t know if it’s the incapable management, or just the lack of investment in this particular gym, but it’s really changed for the worst in the last year. The swap of changing rooms is awful, the pool is terrible, the gym equipment is okay, still, but the overall level of maintenance and service at the gym is appalling. Whoever manages the resources and the gym needs to be replaced by someone more capable. It’s sad, because it used to be an impressive gym.

Negative experience: Since becoming a member in August, I have been appalled at how dirty this place is. I’ve all but given up swimming here as there is a constant problem with the water. It’s on, it’s off, last week the water was off so no showers, then it was closed. I’m 6 months in and am not sure I will renew my membership. As per other reviews this group need to invest what they earn to making the club worth the price they charge for it. Also considering the ongoing work of repairing the water issue, why do the members lose facilities and days for repairs. You’re not a 24 hour gym you could close over night to re-furb/ repair. I’d also like to know what recompence you will be offering for closure and lack of facilities. The steam room or sauna close regularly. Happy to take our money but reticent to reimburse for the lack of facilities, closures etc. The water fountains on gym floor are as far as I know still not working. It’s a shame because the people who use this gym are lovely, varied age range, shapes and sizes, and friendly. Invest in the property to keep the members you have, your not the only gym owner n the area!

Negative experience: I have been a member for several years now. And decided to cancel due to the poor upkeep of the club. For the price we pay (£60 per month increasing every year) I expected so much more, it use to be great and had no complaints but within the past year the club has severely gone downhill. It is dirty and the toilets are awful, dust on all equipment and stretching area flooring is so filthy!

Positive experience: Pretty good gym in need of a few more amenities. I wouldn't pay full price for the membership FYI. The sauna and steam room are good but a bit on the smaller side (but acceptable), the doors really should be weighted so they close behind you. There needs to be a cold plunge pool available, too! Jacuzzi should be reinstated asap (hence the whole jacuzzi fiasco). The pool area could be revamped for a more luxurious aesthetic rather than local leisure centre decor with the breeze block walls. I like the low lighting that this gym seems to be fond of; it saves them money on utilities and it's more atmospheric compared to bright LED lighting in other gyms. It's just enough light to see what you're doing. Changing rooms are good, although I'd want a full ban on aerosol deodorants because they pollute the air and absolutely stink. Roll-ons suffice. No smith machines for squats — but this is a minor gripe as free weights are better overall. BUT if you want to train to failure (exhaustion) on squats without a spotter then the lack of a smith machine does make it harder. The café downstairs is huge, you can't help but think could this space be better used?

Negative experience: Needs knocking down and re building I think. Really dirty and neglected on the inside. Poor layout of the gym equipment, they are definitely not utilising the space correctly. Half the space is dedicated to an empty cafe and large seating area. Tiny area for free weights. Dark and dingy upstairs, I had to use my phone light to see what the pin arm was set too as it’s really dark. Depressing space on the gym floor, for the price you pay is a no go. It’s almost as if they are running the place into the ground as they have not invested in the building or the space available. Shame

Negative experience: The ceiling leaks , the air condition doesn’t work , no tissue for gym members unlike other branches , staff members are unfriendly, limited weights machines , it looks more like a secondary school playground these days, this is not the gym it use to be , I have reluctantly decided to terminate my membership . management needs changing desperately. For now the expensive members fees is not worth it by a mile.. if I had the option I’ll give it 0 star rating.

Negative experience: Been a member for 5 years and wouldn't recommend unfortunately. The gym is falling apart and the changing rooms haven't been refurbished.... The men's changing room is a disgrace & I can't remember the last time the roof wasn't leaking, it seems to be getting worse as well. We've lost the Jacuzzi and seem to have problems with the aircon and water temperature in the showers/pool. There seems to be a new issue every week. I use the gym primarily to swim and am limited to either very early mornings or late evenings because the pool lanes are either booked out with lessons or not monitored appropriately by the on duty life guards. Management need to get some more investment in the club or actively work to address the issues members are facing on a daily basis and stop saying its good value for money, because its not.

Negative experience: I visited this gym whilst staying with family, with my home gym being Nuffield Health Reading. I was told that I had to buy a £10 padlock for the lockers (we use our membership cards in Reading) and there were no padlocks I could borrow for my one visit. I instead drove 5 minutes to Morrisons and paid £3 for one instead. I had checked the gym details beforehand and wasn't aware padlocks are needed. I suggest you update your gym details to let other members know. Whilst there is a lot of equipment, people were sat hogging it on their phones, taking selfies or having a chat with friends and not actually using the equipment for the entire hour I was there which is rather frustrating for someone who just wants to get their workout over and done with. I was also unable to find some basic equipment like TRX straps which was a shame. In my home gym, there are signs prohibiting use of cameras in the gym and not using equipment for more than 20 minutes at peak/busy times. Whilst I'm sure these signs exist in Medway, they were completely ignored and staff were not bothered and just stood leaning against the balcony wall. The ladies toilet stalls are really small, and for a larger person or someone with back problems, I can see them struggling to open and close the stall door as it opens only an inch away from the toilet bowl. I have back problems and I'm petite, but still struggled getting in and out of it. Its very possible that I'm a gym snob, and I'm sure for most, this gym is great, but for me, I wont be returning... I'd rather pay for a completely new membership with a different gym for when I visit family again.

Fantastic experience: One of my favourite Nuffield Health gyms. I love the layout and the staff are friendly and always available for advice. The gym floor receives a lot of natural light which is a positive especially when it's sunny. The sauna, steamrooms and pool are great too.

Negative experience: Well I wanted to join, but after reading all the reviews from new to long term customers, I've decided not to even bother. It sounds absolutely disgusting!! Very disappointing.

Negative experience: Do not join this gym. Part of the facilities were closed down for 6 months and I quote "so they can save energy with bills increasing", yet the fees have also increased. They then closed part of the facilities on a permanent basis, but did not offer their customers the option to immediately cancel their memberships. Therefore, I cancelled my direct debit (I was on a pay monthly contract), and now they harass me for money on Sundays and Saturdays. Abusive and rude behaviour, trying to extort people for money.

Cancellations need to be sent to the club email address and will be processed according to membership terms and conditions. Negative experience: Misleading and abusive policy on monthly rolling plans, that was sold by the club manager or sales rep in 2020 as cancel anytime via canceling the direct debit and very poor and rude customer support. After paying for 3 years a monthly rolling family plan we decided to cancel our membership on the 28th of February after getting the subscription price increased and part of the Medway Facility being closed. After canceling the Direct Debit we are getting letters and calls to request further payments because we didn't give notice for a rolling monthly plan? Watch out of this scam business that try to milk their customers with misleading and abusive clauses. We told them we will not pay any penny and they can take us to court for £135, where we will defend our stance against this misleading and abusive clauses. Also for £135/mo the facility is filthy dirty and very poorly mentioned

Negative experience: Sauna doesn’t work, jacuzzi has been permanently closed. Inside the men’s changing room there is always a leak with a big bucket catching the water. Luckily I only pay £40 a month otherwise I’d be leaving.

Negative experience: This place is going from bad to worse. Sauna is constantly faulty - currently out of use. Jacuzzi has been broken for over 6months. Now received an email that the jacuzzi is being shut down permanently. Steam room is slimey and smelly. You can hardly get a space to workout in the gym area. There is a big space in the middle upstairs overlooking the cafe area downstairs. I don't know why they won't fill up that gap upstairs and install more machines to cater to the crowd of people hoovering about waiting for a free machines. Why pay high rate for low budget broken facilities.

Negative experience: I joined the medway branch of this gym back in June 22. As a more expensive gym to what I am used to, I expected higher quality standards and performance. To this I was disappointed. On joining I was told that all but one of the water machines were broken and the one that was remaining, in your own words wasn't fit for purpose but new ones had been purchased and shall be fitted shortly. Nearly a year down the line this has still not been sorted and the regular anger of trying to simply fill a bottle with water still remains. As a visitor of the gym back in 2018 I looked forward to the progression of the club, but was welcomed to the exact same facilities it had been four years later. The same badly installed and poor excuse for lighting. The same broken fire door hinges. The same "not fit for purpose" water machines. In sight of the energy cost, you turned down the heat in the pools and closed to spa pool with no real specification of when it will be turned back on other than after winter. The staff despite being forced to say hello due to numerous complains only extend this kindness to this point. After having my partner confronted by a trainer for trying to use a piece of equipment which she was told to get off because she didn't want to clean it before her client, I'd had enough. After paying for this service for months despite my torn shoulder simply because I didn't want to inconvenience the gym with freezing my membership (my decision of course. Posting medical documents as proof seemed to much hassle), we decided to quit. After walking into the gym and talking to the woman behind the counter, it become clear she was also not in the mood to be helpful. After very few words all delivered on a less than happy manner, she concluded that I have no choice than to fulfill my year contract. If this is infact on the contract then so be it but simply repeating your in contact in an angry manner didnt seem sufficient help. In conclusion, after the way staff have acted, I have no intrest in attending further and would like to believe these problems will be addressed so that remaining members have a better experience than myself. This I doubt.

Positive experience: 2 days running no paper towels in gym

Negative experience: I joined here at the beginning of December on a recommendation from a friend and it seemed fine apart from the jacuzzi not working which isn't a mojor problem. A week before Christmas they had a water leak in the male changing rooms and it's still not repaired 2 weeks into January!!! The jacuzzi is still not operational and 3 times the steam rooms not been working so now I'm sitting in the sauna with 15 people which is a squeeze. The male toilets in the changing rooms we're leaking and taped of as out of order last week. I'm not sure what's going on but it slowly seems to be falling apart.

Negative experience: My original review was a few months back , nothing has changed in fact worse , they want to charge more and have now closed the jacuzzi, after many years there when esporta , some years as virgin and now Nuffield we have cancelled our membership for 3 of us so far .Thankyou to the staff , they have always been great !! but as for the company Nuffield , not so good , the worst thing for us is we find out that a lot of people who work in offices get their corporate discounts and only spend £35 to £40 a month , miles less than normal folk , for that cost I could have put up with a few issues , now we have moved to a far better club with all facilities working well and at only £45 a month with a years deal , all the best to the staff , I hope you get treated better than paying clients My advise is not to bother joining this club , I’ve been there a long while and the company is not spending money where it should , so many maintenance issues , buckets in the changing rooms that take water from leaks , it’s a mess , broken down sauna , jacuzzi, steam room , showers constantly happening, male changing rooms yesterday yet again , masses of buckets , half the ceiling missing , leaks everywhere, it’s a run down mess!! And has been going on and off for months !!!

Negative experience: Not worth the extortionate fees (of which they seem to be stuck in the 00's with year long contracts). I want to give one star, but thats unfair because the equipment and the majority of the staff are friendly, however, i cannot exceed two stars, given that: 1) if you want to swim, and happen to have to work for a living, there are never any lanes available because the pool is dedicated to lessons and clubs. On the off day that you get a free lane, obviously all the adults are packed in and everyone going at different speeds. The pool is tiny. 2) if you want to deadlift any meaningful weight. Despite having three platforms and being told it would be okay to deadlift, I had a furious (and skinny/boney) personal trainer stop me mid set and inform me that I can't deadlift that much weight for that many reps. I was not dropping the weight; I was coming down with the bar on each rep. Apparently the platforms are for gently placing the barbells down after doing Romanian deadlifts. 3) obviously, given the above, weightlifting is unlikely to be allowed You're honestly better off elsewhere, if you're serious about fitness. You may as well join a puregym because this gym is just as busy, and you never get to swim anyway. The only difference is it will cost you 1/3 the price, and you won't have to wait a year to leave the contract.

Negative experience: I will not recommend this place as the staff are very rude they do not pull you to one side to talk to you they make you feel small in front of other users I also felt that I had no privacy as a member of staff kept following me round the gym and then to the pool. Very rude members of staff.

Negative experience: I really liked coming to this fitness centre when I lived in the area, however after 18 months of not visiting having moved away, we decided to cancel. Of course, we should have cancelled sooner and that’s my fault, but when we did cancel the terms were outrageous, you have to pay for TWO months after leaving. Now I’m being chased for the last instalment of £90 despite having paid £1,620 since our last visit. Really shoddy way to treat people. Avoid if you think you’d ever want to leave.
Negative experience: Pool closed, no communication from the health centre so turned up and got turned away. Best thing is the lady on reception was very rude and lacked communication skills. Was more interested in shifting me away so I didn't cause a scene. Cancelled my membership via cooling off period but having to wait two weeks for the refund. Incompetent and unprofessional. From what I saw the pools were always busy with classes and swimming lessons, gym was basic. Will stick with my local council operated sports centre.

Positive experience: Great gym, nice staff, been going there for 8 years
Fantastic experience: Great friendly and approachable staff, lovely atmosphere, spacious and clean. I love this place. The cafe is great, the changing rooms are clean and tidy, the equipment all appears looked after and you dont have the egotistical atmosphere you get in some smaller gyms. Although expensive, it's an investment into your health cant put a price on that.
Positive experience: Went to this gym for years really enjoyed it there Only left due to monthly fee going up and moving.
Fantastic experience: Had a day pass as never been here before. Ladies on front desk were very welcoming and pleasant (not like other places where it sounds false!). Whole place looked really attractive, clean and luxurious! Female changing rooms were lovely, clean and bright. The swimming pool was bliss. Lovely size and not busy when we went. The jacuzzi steam room and sauna were all really good. I would definitely come back and recommend coming here!
Positive experience: As big chain gyms go, this is pretty much your standard fayre. Large, bright, open plan with plenty of equipment. Staff are friendly and helpful although I’ve never seen any of them walking the gym floor, conversing with members, putting equipment away etc, but then I have only visited at off peak times. The reason for the three star review is not really down to the premises itself, rather the people that go there. Very few of them have any gym etiquette whatsoever. The usual suspects include people sitting on equipment checking their social media/texting when it could be being used by someone else, members not wiping down equipment after they’ve used it, everyone leaving their weights strewn about, and if they do actually put them back, putting them in the wrong places, and not stripping down bars/equipment for the next person to use. More signage and penalties for not tidying up after yourself should be implemented as I’m sure the staff have enough to do without running around cleaning up after everyone. More than anything it’s a health and safety issue. Would not recommend

Negative experience: I do not know about the classes they run but they gym is very poor ...not the facilities but the etiquette..all weights,bars etc left as they are ..they staff are the worst offenders who move on with their client without clearing the area...everyone must be short sighted because you cannot get to the dumbbell rack as crowded with people training an inch from the mirror .staff far to busy entertaining ,chatting to manage the weight area...this is a lookers gym for socializing not for training .

Positive experience: Have been going here for a number of years. The equipment range is superb, especially after the recent refurbishment. The swimming pool always has lanes open, even at times when they have other swimming lessons on. The food is a little on the pricey side, but they do have Costa coffee which is a bonus.
Negative experience: Sad to see the latest reviews, I was here for about 4 years but left last December. My reasons were simple, they "temporary", shut the Jacuzzi, "now my mate tells me permanent". The sauna and steam room were often not working. But the main thing was the pool for me, full of kids, or classes. The gym was good and I found the staff friendly, but the mens changing rooms were falling apart when I left. Joined another health club, cheaper and better facilities, and very happy I did. I suppose Nuffield is spending too much money on Steve Gray, CEO wages, instead of maintaining their centres. I'm not sure how a "charity", can justify 1.22 million for someone in 2021. But I have good memories here and really hope they turn this place around. Good luck Nuffield medway.

Positive experience: A very good 1st free session. 7 day free pass in men's health magazine. Offer ends 30/09/2018. Get yours. You won't be disappointed with the facilities on offer here. Swimming pool. Great changing rooms. Massive gym with the usual cardio, free and cabled weight machines. Good location just over the road from Diggerland in Rochester.

Positive experience: Great gym, friendly staff swimming pool nice. They have an issue with lockers being broken into and the hot water breaking down. Also, would like it to open a little bit later than 10pm.

Negative experience: I earn only minimum wage and the sales girl signed me up on the more expensive membership a month because my college card has no expiry date, (something which i've never known them to have), the staff are hardly around now since the switch over from virgin active, the staff are not as smiley, bubbly, and friendly as when it was virgin active and what's just as annoying as paying more than I normally would and should for membership is that although I know it's a non profit organisation and the money goes to charity, you can never use the gym in the summer as they never put the Aircon on. So for months you're paying a lot out for nothing. Also often machines, the jacuzzi and shower in the pool area are out of order, not fixed for ages and there is often more than one thing out of order. Other than that the staff are still ok and the gym is nice.

Negative experience: I always manage to find a problem when going, the staff are rude and have a poorly managed class booking system.
Positive experience: It's a nice gym but trying to get a response from Nuffield is a nightmare if you message them. Should not be the case for a gym that costs more than £50 a month. Cheaper gyms are much more prompt.
