Bannatyne Health Club And Spa in Broadstairs offers a unique combination of gym, spa, and relaxation facilities, catering to a variety of needs. Many users appreciate the friendly and attentive staff, and the spa treatments have received glowing feedback for being rejuvenating and professional. The spa features a lovely ambiance, with satisfied customers mentioning the quality of massages and facials provided by skilled therapists like Zoe and Sharon.
However, several reviews highlight concerns regarding the gym facilities, citing outdated equipment and issues with cleanliness. The indoor pool and jacuzzi have been marked as too cold and sometimes not functioning properly. Additionally, some users reported disappointing experiences with the reception and service quality, particularly when it comes to handling membership cancellations and member inquiries.
While many visitors enjoy the healthy social atmosphere and the range of treatments available, others feel that improvements are necessary to enhance the overall experience. The feedback reveals a need for better maintenance of the gym equipment and facilities to match the premium prices charged for memberships. Despite these shortcomings, the club's potential is recognized, and numerous visitors have expressed their willingness to return for the spa treatments.
Key Highlights:
- Friendly and professional staff.
- Excellent spa treatments and massages.
- A pleasant social environment and good atmosphere.
Areas for Improvement:
- Outdated and poorly maintained gym equipment.
- Indoor pool temperature issues.
- Challenges with membership cancellation processes.
Bannatyne Health Club And Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: Very poor gym. You can’t go in there with out the equipment being broke or the sauna but charge you £80 a month for a very poor service and out of date gym equipment. They also will not hesitate to get debt collectors after you and solicitors when your going through a bad stage this hasent just happend to me. I’ve been told they haven’t updated the gym in 20 years much better alternatives around if you are planning on joining for the gym and spa then I wouldent. the good reviews on here are only about the spa treatments not the gym and jacuzzi etc. the rules are draconian they have banned people for putting eucalyptus in the sauna banned someone for getting started on by a bunch of kids desperately trying to be something they are not yet there standards are very poor. If you’re planning on joining please reach out to someone who is there and they will tell you all this themselves as everyone is always complaining about something.

Fantastic experience: Had a spa package £55 which included the sauna, steam, jacuzzi and pool and 2 treatments. I had the amazing Zoe which she gave me a fabulous massage and elemis facial. She was so lovely and attentive and I felt rejuvenated
Hello Suze, We appreciate your positive review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, thank you. Ann Baker
Positive experience: Booked a treatment and spa day offer. The reception staff were so friendly and really helpful. The lava shell massage was amazing, and the facial was too. We actually didn't use the facilities in the end, we looked, but were not impressed so decided we would rather not bother. I would recommend just booking a treatment as it was excellent.

Negative experience: I was a member of Bannatyne for over a year, initially I side pool temperature was ok, but over time, the tempreture was lowered, the showers not always working. I cancelled my membership, 70.00 per month for a poor service, would not rejoin, looking at current reviews facilities have not improved, very poor for the cost of the membership, which is high due to lack of competition in the area, which amount to exploitation of customers in my view.

All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Rob Hayes.
Negative experience: AVOID AT ALL COST! It is a cheating and no standard service. I booked for 60 minutes Swedish full body massage and absolutely disappointed. It wasn’t fully an hour which I paid £72 (less than 50 minutes treated). And the whole treatment was literally rubbing, not a massage at all. I did ask if it could be harder but she said she was trained just to do that level (rubbing). I didn’t enjoy even a minute and this business should have a proper training for their staff before offering them a job as a therapist. I doubt their skills and experience (including basic knowledge where are muscles and how to treat them). It wasted my time and my money and left me feel furious. This is not a massage standard.
Hello Ann Pham, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected]. Many Thanks
Positive experience: Treatments fantastic. The pool was too cold and the jacuzzi was on a timer and weak

Hello Rapthorne Lightweaver, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs.
Negative experience: 4 of us visited on a hen weekend to use the pool & spa and for treatments. The pool area was nice, although the steam & sauna rooms were both closed for some time during our visit (for cleaning). Shame this couldn't be done at a less busy time. The staff were friendly, but whilst my massage was relaxing, sadly my daughter / friend's experiences were not great. The therapist providing one of the girl's massage chatted throughout the treatment, which was not relaxing. Worse though, was that my daughter & her friend's mum were called in together, to the same room for their treatments. They know each other, but not well enough to strip off for the treatments & listen to the personal discussions held... I contacted the spa as I really didn't think this was acceptable. They did apologise, but just said that the treatment rooms are allocated automatically by the booking system, so presumably, anyone could end up sharing with a random person! I would have expected some form of reimbursement as it certainly wasn't the relaxing, special day we'd planned

Negative experience: I been in Bannatyne for 3 months. I try to cancellation my membership before 2 months my membership 3 months expire because they told me need to cancel before 1 month expire, and I try to cancel it before 1 month expire one more time. But no one they answer my email, I tried to call to them to many time but no one answer. They still take my money from my bank and I cancel direct debit with them. But yesterday them still send to me email they told my need to pay 86,99p for this month if not that money will be go up . Because they haven’t received any email from me I show them what day I sent email to them and they say because they didn’t see my email so they not answer that’s mean I still can’t cancel my membership and I still need to pay 86,99p for no one answer my email and called That’s not fair. Not recommend anyone come to this.

Fantastic experience: I felt very relaxed after having had a wonderful massage. I enjoyed swimming in the pool which after not having swam for a while gave me a good workout. The ambiance of the spa and the friendliness of staff made the visit even more enjoyable. I am looking forward to another visit.

Negative experience: Place is falling apart, poor hygiene and maintenance is well below expectations.

Positive experience: Showers by the pool need to be modernised, only one is working the other two have only cold water!!! The jacuzzi just started to work again, 4 of the 8 pumps are not working, hello!! Please fix showers by the pool and pumps, as we are paying enough money
Hello Cidalia Willis, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected].
Positive experience: Reasonably priced for a day out. Started with my first ever massage which was lovely (I think it was by a Tanya? It began with a T but I didn't catch the name fully - but thank you for your work!). Staff were really friendly and polite. Used the pool after a massage which is combined with the health centre users. Just a generic pool, and was quite cold. Sauna and steam room use is included, but are notably small and there's not much room for you in there. There's also an outside pool but did not use. The hot tub was under maintenance and closed off which I did not know prior to booking, so was extremely disappointed. Facilities were clean too. If I'm ever in town again, I would deffo consider some of the other treatment options of the Spa but the Health Club facilities were pretty meh.
Hello Rebekah, We are glad to hear you enjoyed your first massage treatment. We appreciate your review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, thank you.
Negative experience: So glad to have left this gym. Hugely over-priced and unfriendly gym. Considering the exorbitant fees, the gym equipment is aging badly, often out of order units, and a changing room that hasn't been updated in a very very long time. I joined 18 months ago and when I did I was advised the changing rooms were to be updated soon. It never happened. The reception staff on the most part act like they hate being there. There were only a couple of exceptions and I did make a point of telling them, but generally the most you can expect is a grunt and a surly look. You just feel like you're putting them out asking them anything. Any personal training is minimal too. Not once was I offered any unsolicited advice or assistance in the over 15 months I was a member. The only benefit of the high costs and terrible service is that the gym isn't too busy and you can easily get access to the weights you want to use. That is literally the only positive thing I can say. Also, special note should be made to the subscription terms and conditions; be very careful to read them closely. They will make it very tricky to cancel your subscription. I've joined a new gym recently, and what a revelation. This is honest advice and if none of the things I've mentioned matter to you then you can have a good workout, and a swim here, but you could get the same elsewhere for a third of the price. Don't expect a Starbucks though, like me they've left too!
Hello Ben Casey, we are disappointed to receive your feedback. In order for us to understand and address any concerns you may have, please contact us at [email protected], thank you.
Negative experience: Come back to bannatynes after freezing membership. Froze membership because the facilities were lacking, unclean and regularly out of working order. First day back and the outside pool is closed and the hot tub is closed. Sauna making loud creaking noises. Will be cancelling my membership as soon as possible.
Hello Alex Kirk, we are disappointed to receive your feedback. In order for us to understand and address any concerns you may have, please contact us at [email protected], thank you. All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Rob Hayes.
Positive experience: It was a treat to visit Bannatynes today. This is a lovely spa venue. There is lots of parking on either side of the venue. I went for a day visit. The gym is very well equipped, not crazy busy so I didn't have to wait for machines and thye were all clean. The changing rooms, are well kept, they use a locker system contacted to a bracelet you are given by reception which is easy to use. If you forget your locker there is a handymachine you can show the bracelet to and it tells you your locker. The cafe is nice as is the seating area. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool has lots of seats and sundowners. You can stand up anywhere in the indoor pool so ideal for new swimmers. The staff are really helpful and polite and everyone we met was the same. A nice place well worth a day visit.
Hello Colin Taylor, we are so pleased to learn you enjoyed your experience at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs.

Hello Anita Donaldson, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Negative experience: Disappointing spa treatments today. It felt rushed, lady was pulling my hair a lot during the scalp massage and our treatments were cut short. Man at cafe was very friendly and welcoming despite being rushed off his feet. Overall we thought it was a very basic spa day.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful facial and massage. Incredibly relaxing and great deal with a pamper package.
Hello Olivia Wheatley, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Negative experience: Such rude staff! Asked for help to sign in on the computers, wasn’t helping at all very rude tone! Saying she can’t work computers, why have a job there and be a receptionist but can’t work a computer?! Very disappointed. Went there on 15/07/24 with my grandad Stuart wells who is a member.
Hello Peyton Wells, we are disappointed to receive your feedback. In order for us to understand and address any concerns you may have, please contact us at [email protected], thank you. All feedback, whether it be positive or negative allows us to improve as a business, thank you, Rob Hayes.
Positive experience: Visited for spa experience which was gifted to me and my wife. The spa experience includes access to all facilities - the gym, swimming pools, jacuzzi, sauna, cafe etc. Spa experience was very relaxing and the environment was better than I thought, after reading some of the reviews. Sharon is a great therapist, thank you.
Hello Daniel Ghinn, we strive to provide a great experience, we are glad you enjoyed your visit. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Positive experience: Spa day. Great treatments and felt very relaxed. Was a little disappointed with the service at reception and the cafe, as it was our first time here and the ladies seemed to be pre occupied as we stood there with members entering in front of us. Went into the cafe and asked for a drink menu, they don't have one and the lady seemed quite annoyed that I had even asked for one . Would definitely recommend for a spa day, but if you are here for the sauna, hot tub or steam room you will be squished like a sardine.
Hello Megan Stroud, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected]. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Negative experience: Do not use Bannatyne's Instavolt charging station! Bannatynes Gym carpark will give you a parking fine (PCN) for £160 - we got two fines amounting to £260 just to use their charger
Positive experience: I became a member here about 2 months ago. I have always wanted to go here to use the outdoor pool but it was always too expensive for me. I have however now joined. It's a lovely place but I did expect a little more for £70 per month! It's not very clean. It's quite noisy and there is nowhere to sit around the pool once you come out of the sauna. I understand that these places get messy but there is no need for it to be dirty. You can clearly see that not a lot of cleaning gets done. I have used the relaxation room once since joining. I was quite looking forward to this but you can hear some sort of generator noise and also lorries. It is right next door to Tesco which doesn't help. I think I could hear the Tesco lorries driving around and reversing. So it was not that relaxing after all. The only reason I mentioned the seating around the pool is because I like to rest between sauna sessions. Maybe personal preference. The only place to sit is on the side of the bubbly tub. I cannot call it a hot tub because it's not very hot. I have not eaten here because of the dirt so I cannot comment on the food side of things but they do offer light refreshments too.

Hello Gemma Stacey, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected].
Negative experience: NEVER GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE You will never be able to cancel all week I have been trying to call to cancel my membership no answer, they make an app in which you can’t cancel your membership, sent emails with no reply, used their website asked them to contact me again no message sent back, absolutely shocking not to mention they buy the lowest price lowest quality matrix/techno gym machines whilst the other gym by bannantynes justfitness cost a third of the price and uses some of the highest price and quality gym equipment there are
Negative experience: Having been a member of the BROADSTAIRS club for a year I am not going to be renewing my membership. At £65pm I expected much higher standards, instead I found the gym to be dirty, the changing room to be very poorly maintained and grimy.
Negative experience: Won't go back and would not recommend. Lady in the beauty area very rude. Never been before and wouldn't return.
Negative experience: The spa and treatments were excellent but I got a parking ticket when I parked in their car park. No one told us we were supposed to check in. I have appealed and they are sorting it, hopefully.
Hello Annette Dowler, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected].
Positive experience: Lovely broadstairs Bannatynes. Very friendly social place. Inside and outside pool. Staff lovely. Use regularly

Fantastic experience: Lovely club, not too busy and the outdoor pool is a big plus. Rebecca at the front desk is always very friendly and helpful. Happy member.
Hello Holly Lawford, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Fantastic experience: Thank you very much Lottie @ Bannatyne Broadstairs for my facial amazing time! For professional approach and advice and to make me feel valued and respected. I am relaxed and my skin feels and looks incredible!
Positive experience: The spa itself was lovely, but it's quite noisy - you can hear the hand dryers in the relaxation room, and there's some other noise too - maybe a generator? There is no space around the pool to sit and relax, unless you wish to sit outside around the outside pool. It's also very busy here! You'll be sharing the sauna and stream room with at least 6 people at all times, if you're lucky enough to get in them. Beauty treatments were very relaxing. Food was expensive and limited to sandwiches/paninis/toasties, or pastries.
Positive experience: Had an fab spa day with my girlie friends. The massage was with Zoe... WOW, she knows how to make you feel so relaxed, she listened to what I wanted and I had one of me best times here. Zoe gets a massive 5 star. However the changing rooms in the pool side were freezing, so if that wasn't so cold, the whole thing would be 5 star. Great day out. Also, no breakfast items but croissants we lovely
Positive experience: Bit of a shame as sauna not working and not told when we arrived. Hot beds not working properly. Robes far to small and short. Actual treatment in spa was logely
Hello Tracey Philpott, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. We really appreciate your feedback, thank you, Rob Hayes.
Fantastic experience: I went with my daughter and wasn't sure what to expect. Reception and greeting was warm and welcoming. Was offered the hire of towel, towell dressing gown and flipflops (at a charge) but get to keep bag and flip flops at the end. Changing room and wrist band key for locker fully explained. Clean and perfectly equipped changing rooms with shower area and wet costume spinner, hairdryers and changing rooms. Our package included a mini tater of back, facial and head massage and was perfect - great products. Swimming pool inside and out, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi were lovely although a little chilly for outside pool. We had a lovel day thank you to all the staff.
Hello Melissa Stevens, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Negative experience: The staff are very friendly and pleasant, however I expect they have a difficult job with disgruntled members. Facilities are poor. Gym equipment is outdated, the spa pool is cold, the outside pool was closed recently and the indoor pool is also cold. There is no real restaurant, the food is heated up with very unhealthy choices and compared to other Bannatyne's gyms this is not good enough considering the membership prices. Bannatyne himself recently visited and thought the place was ok, clearly he isn't used to actually using a gym. Many things break down and take ages to repair. The list is endless. The manager really does need to start making upgrades with the whole structure of the building, as well as the facilities. There is I believe a health and safety issue here at the Broadstairs club. Members do complain and ask for improvement, but it all falls on deaf ears. Such a shame as it has great potential. This club would be in trouble if another large gym group opened up in the area.
Negative experience: Over priced membership for a dated club. Gym ok, some good classes, however poor stag levels and no control of pool and poolside areas, particularly over full sanua and no attendants on duty.
Positive experience: Been a member for two years now. Place is showing its age and needs some investment. Use the gym regularly and the spin class. The changing facilities and rather cramped and dated. The pool is OK but is sometimes a bit too busy. The gym equipment is adequate but some of the layout doesn't quite work, again probably due to lack of space for example the kettle bells don't have a dedicated area and you need to carry them to a quiet corner (if you can find one). The studios are large but often occupied by classes and not available for general use.
Fantastic experience: New member. Place is spotless. Staff so helpful I'm really enjoying being a member
Positive experience: Spa was lovely but didn't occupy me for a day as my appointment didn't start until 11:45 am and was over by 2 pm without anyone giving their time to show me what else I could do as a potential new customer, even though 3 people were on reception and new it was my first experience with them. Customer service said they don't need to provide new customers with a tour of facilities as their emails are sufficient. Poor response to verbal feedback and a missed opportunity to persuade me to return as a potential new customer.
Fantastic experience: Great experience & overall lovely spa day
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff. Love the whole genre about it
Negative experience: I have been a member here for 2 years paying my monthly membership every month. I have never complained as it’s not in my nature and as it’s by no means a luxury centre I understand you get what you pay for. However, I have been trying to cancel my membership now for 2 months and it has been so difficult. Lost emails, slow if any responses, and corporate auto emails that are not helpful. Trying to get someone on the phone here to discuss things is almost impossible as no one ever answers the phone. The changing rooms and showers particularly are so tired and dirty and I very rarely want to shower here anymore. The taps don’t turn properly to adjust the heat and the pool is quite often murky, again very of putting. The customer service I have received here has been shocking. All they care about is getting the next months membership fee without taking any responsibility for the poor outdated facilities and policies. save yourself the money and go to a small independent gym that actually cares.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic outdoor pool. Really large steam room and sauna.
Positive experience: Lovely spa day for my partner and I. We had a facial and full body massage each. The therapists were great and talked us through the products used for the facial. The spa facilities were great, we didn’t realise there was a huge outdoor heated swimming pool. The experience of looking at the Elemis products for sale in the spa shop wasn’t great. I was made to feel cheap and that I couldn’t afford them, even though I use Elemis products everyday as part of my cleansing routine. We also could hear the therapist’s complaining about commission on the products, so we decided to leave.
Fantastic experience: Lovely spa day! Grace was my therapist for Elemis facial and deep tissue massage. Both treatments were amazing. Grace explained everything and made sure I was comfortable and I felt very relaxed afterwards. -Pool/spa facilities were great too (especially the steam room and outdoor pool) -Friendly staff at the reception Would highly recommend
Negative experience: Extremely dissatisfied with Bannatynes due to consistently poor hygiene in the spa area. When I committed to the membership, there was a clear emphasis on Bannatyne's maintaining clean and well-maintained amenities. Unfortunately, the reality has fallen far short of these assurances. The consistent substandard conditions, coupled with the sauna and steam room consistently operating below the required temperatures The pool and jacuzzi were persistently dirty. For the hefty £70/month fee, the experience felt like a complete scam. Attempts to cancel were met with resistance, being informed of a contract until next year. Request to escalate the complaint to head office was denied, limiting communication to the store's General Manager. Unacceptable service for the price paid.
Fantastic experience: Had some spa treatments which were relaxing and very professional. Love the jacuzzi and the sauna as well
Negative experience: When you cancel they say you have to give 30 days notice, and when you give it if it falls in the next month you have to pay for the next month aswell, basically, they are asking for a 53 day cancellation notice lol.
Negative experience: Price ok but not great considering how dated the place feels. Only used the pool and sauna. Showers don’t go cold at all which would be preferable for some after sauna. Feels like a really long drawn out antiquated process to obtain a day pass including having to enter your car reg into a tablet if you managed to spot the sign telling you to do so to avoid getting a ticket. No one available to take a coffee / breakfast order. Shame - lots more potential here!
Positive experience: Visited this spa with my husband as a belated Xmas present. Had an amazing massage ( thanks Sharon!) and enjoyed the facilities. Nice and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Facial and back massage. Now totally relaxed and feeling great.
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic pregnancy massage in the spa, would definitely use again!
Fantastic experience: Perfect place to pop in for a swim and gym whilst I’m travelling about.
Fantastic experience: Amazing club, great staff
Positive experience: Really outdated, s Came for a spa day, so busy not enough space and not luxery.
Positive experience: Only show in town - sad that the showers are so scruffy
Fantastic experience: Best scalp, shoulder, neck massage I have ever had. Facial was lovely too. Both with Sharon, and will definitely be back
Fantastic experience: Lovely spa and swimming pools including a large outdoor heated pool with seating area. Sauna, jacuzzi and steam room around the edge of indoor pool. I did not use the gym upstairs but the spa and treatments were very relaxing. Relaxing lounge had great heated loungers. Will be going again soon.
Fantastic experience: I've been to a few Bannatyne spas. However, this is far the best. The staff were amazing & the facilities really nice.
Fantastic experience: Spa so good and relaxing .
Negative experience: After rejoining from previously being a member 15 years ago, I was disappointed that hardly any area of the facility has been improved or upgraded, in fact, it’s degraded and hasn’t much reinvestment apart from newer gym equipment. Showers are the same, toilets are the same and the lockers are the original wooden ones from when the club opened, all very much showing their age, not what you’d expect for a premium health club. There is a rumour going around that the club is about to close for 3 months for a refit. This is well needed and hopefully will happen without the club needing to close.
Positive experience: Have been a member of and off, over 15 years or so. Having been a past member I have a little more perspective on where the centre has been veruss where it is now and to summarise, prices have gone up but the facility has fell into some disrepair. The men's locker room has not changed in any significant way, beyond wrist band locking lockers and newer showers, in the last 15 years. Starting with the changing room; The lockers are, I believe, the exact same lockers that were there when I first joined many moons ago, with only the locking mechanism changing. Meaning they are very worn out, with broken vaneers and awkwardly moving hinges that sag and clunk. The spin drier is a nice feature but doesn't always work properly and I noticed the gym no longer has plastic bags for you to put your damp clothing in like it once used to. One of the hair driers barely gets hot and the showers usually smell like sewage. The showers themselves are decent enough, maintaining a consistent temperature which can range from cold to very hot. Body wash is available and usually stocked up, so no need to bring your own. However some more upscale gyms also provide shampoo and conditioner. Toilets are clean enough but, similar to the lockers, are showing their age and wear. The gym itself is what you'd hope for and expect. Most machines work fine however the cross trainers need some TLC. I recently moved between 5 cross trainers as 4 of them had a notable clunk when being used. The 4th was positioned in front of a white painted window sill which reflected the sun directly into your face at certain times of day. Sil could do with repainting to something that doesn't reflect or glare as much. Most the other equipment shows some sign of wear but nothing you wouldn't expect and usually works perfectly well. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. They are a credit to the gym. The pool area; The centre has good sized indoor and outdoor pools. With the outdoor space being great in warmer temperatures and even quite nice in colder ones. However the interior pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room areas feel old and lacking love. This seems to have not changed much in 15 years, if at all. The front of house space and parking are good, with most of what you'd need or want. The reality is prices have gone up around 35% in the last few years but the facility itself probably hasn't improved a great deal overall. In fact many areas have arguably degraded. With a premium of up to £70 a month for peak access, the facility does not deliver on expectations but rather relies on its lack of competition (particularly with regards to pool facilities) and reputation to bring in customers. That said, the addition of the newly opened facility nearby that members can now access is great, with some great new equipment it's certainly a welcome addition for existing members. However, water refil stations not being available seems a huge miss for a gym.
Positive experience: Very good Spa Day and Treatment, the only thing that I would alter is, that when you walk into the Cafe in your robe, to have something to eat and drink,it is in the main entrance area, which is not a relaxing space. So would like to see a slightly different alteration to make it more of a relaxed place.
Fantastic experience: Nice friendly staff, lovely and clean got everything you would want under 1 roof

Fantastic experience: Great gym, wonderful pools, staff very nice.
Positive experience: Very good facilities for the money. Could do with a few more sunbeds around the pool area and it would be nice if the jacuzzi was a bit warmer but everything else has been very good / excellent.
Fantastic experience: Swimming pool us nice and at a good temperature, there is a good amount of machine's to use, Staff have been very nice.
Fantastic experience: My favourite place in the world, where I can focus on me. Lovely staff in a lovely environment with everything you will ever need to work out or relax.
Positive experience: Was a lovely spa good facilities , just felt rushed at the end of the day with moving out of the spa even tho it said till 8pm over all the spa treatments was fantastic and would do it again ...
Positive experience: Stewart was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and professional with my questions.
Positive experience: Not informed that towels weren't supplied. Very noisy relaxation room due to weights above.
Positive experience: Had an amazing day here. Pools were fab and the treatments were lovely (thank you Zoe.) Only downside was that as a vegan there was nothing I could eat for lunch so I had to make do with a packet of crisps. Hopefully they'll be a salad, wrap or sandwich waiting for me next time?
Positive experience: Been a member since 2003, seen many changes, mostly very good. The staff are very nice, although a few moody reception staff at the moment, though in the main I really like the place - best gym in Broadstairs, good selection of free weights, cardio and machines. Nice pool in the summer. A tad pricey, but you get what you pay for, which is a very good quality gym.
Positive experience: Nice gym..nice atmosphere lovely staff Whole place needs do a update though... Shame to spend all the money on new one near us when this place is desperate for a make over and some money spending on it..but overall good gym and wet side.. But overall nice place, and staff are really nice
Hello Alan Gent, thank you for taking the time to send a review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Broadstairs. If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us, Rob Hayes.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely swim, facial and back massage, therapist was Very nice feeling very relaxed.
Negative experience: A place full of chavs. Scruffy people all over. It’s a no good place. basically a low end estate. I wouldn’t ever return. The area doesn’t help! Eeek
Negative experience: Visited as part of a “spa day” The Gym is clean, looked after and has an “OK” selection of equipment but by no means extensive compared to gyms £53 a month cheaper (£636 a year less) that are less than 100 meters away. On the other hand the changing facilities, showers indoor and outdoor pools remind me of an old 80’s old school swimming pool. most doors don’t lock, rawl plugs sticking out of walls with rusty soap dispensers hanging off them, the drain hose from the swimsuit drier drains off into the first shower cubicle so if someone has been “unhygienic” in their shorts and drying them the same time as you’re showering it goes onto your feet, took 3 weeks to replace a door handle on the outside so if you went from the outside to inside you had to knock on the window and hope someone would come and let you back in. The inside pool is murky, cloudy and ice cold almost as if the pumps aren’t filtering the water correctly, and the outdoor supposedly heated pool is just as cold. The wet side, showering, and changing facilities are actually disgusting for this price point. I’d be pretty disappointed if someone had ever booked me a “spa” day here ever again. It’s really sub standard and I’m surprised Bannatynes actually allow it to come under their brand. Considering the club must have 1500-2000 members all paying £70+ a month (£1,800,000PA) for memberships alone before spa treatments and cafe plus you’d think they’d reinvest to bring the club up to scratch in line with competitors that are 20% of the price. Rather than leasing another gym less than 500 meters away I think they’d have been better off giving their current members a better club. A real shame really and I hope they lose a lot of members to others in the area until they admit they need a whole refurbishment.
Positive experience: Nice club, got great potential. But it needs a lot of TLC! Sauna is brilliant, but the rest of spa area is rather old. Indoor pool is dirty and colder than the outdoor! Gym is okish! Not enough benches, so often having to wait ages (especially when 3,4 lads all together on their phones & taking their time!!) Not got many attachments for the cables, not even an EZ bar one! So I tend to train elsewhere, and just use the sauna! Not ideal, but needs must!!
Positive experience: Gym is a bit basic. I came.for a free pass day with my mother. Spa is worn. Needs upgrading. I wouldn't pay to come here.
Negative experience: Absolutely horrific experience. My partner and I bought a voucher online from buyagift for our 2 year anniversary. The entire time we were there we were made to feel like an inconvenience and the made to feel very unwelcome. My partner is a wheelchair user and bannatynes broadstairs is not wheelchair friendly or accessible at all. There is no drop curbs in entering the car park, meaning I had to take my partner into the road in order to get them in the building, there is a metal step as you enter the building that nearly tipped my partner out of their wheel as there was no signposting anyway regarding the step. Due to travel issues we had missed our treatment slot which we completely understood and had no issues with as long as we could use the facilities still. Once we were in the establishment, my partner who I will reiterate used a wheelchair was taken by a front of house staff to the female changing room which involved narrowed doorways despite walking past the family/disability changing rooms on the way to the female changing room. My partner had to ask if there was any disability friendly changing facilities to which the front of house member replied along the lines of (not verbatim as I can’t recall exactly from memory) “oh yeah it’s just back this way, sorry I hardly go in there at all,” which is NOTHING to do with the front of house staff and EVERYTHING to do with the managers of the establishment. Moving on, the disabled changing facilities were an absolute shambles, it was narrow and dirty. The changing room door was smeared in handprints and stains. The way out of the changing rooms into the pool area was ridiculous and if a wheelchair user was alone and unable to stand at all, they would just need to abandon the whole idea unless they had super long arms as the handle was 3/4 of the way up the door. The inside of the pool was dirty, the hot tub was dirty as if someone had poured lime cordial inside, the pool itself was freezing cold and the pathways for walking were hardly wheelchair accessible at all. Many others also in use of the establishment gawked at my partner and I as if we were the bubonic plague walking through the doors and the overall experience was absolutely awful. We won’t be returning again and if you’re a disabled person looking for some relaxation, go somewhere else, trust me.
Negative experience: WORST GYM EVER! I signed a 12 month contract and cancelled after 13 months on the portal, however shock horror this cancellation wasn’t received according to Admin. I now have to pay an additional 2 months fees even though I SIGNED A 12 MONTH CONTRACT. Rob Hayes the general manager wrote to me and agreed going half way and only clearing are one months fee, however I then receive an email from ARC Europe threatening me with court proceedings. I signed a 12 month agreement and paid every month on time and cancelled via their portal on the 12 month and they want to start court proceedings!!! Reason for cancellation! The women’s changing room showers are absolutely disgusting, dated, mouldy with luke warm water in taps. The gym equipment is old and there is not enough equipment to facilitate members. I had to stand around waiting for equipment to be free. The whole place in general is old and in poor condition in need of updating. If you’ve ever used a David Lloyd’s gym and spa don’t join Bannatyne Broadstairs. I’m really not one for bad reviews, but sending me an email threatening court proceedings has given my no choice. They have handled this simple cancellation of membership awfully. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM
Negative experience: Parking registration in reception is required & i read the reviews of the facilities members are complaining about of the cleanliness in changing rooms it's also a shame that there is Only 10% of spa treatments now as there used to be 20% off. I constantly hear also how difficult it is to cancel your membership! The food selection is not great anymore or the service that goes with it.. Maybelline best not to serve Chai Latte Anymore, as no-one quite knows how it's made ?
Negative experience: In need of a refurb and quite grubby in places. Pool could hardly see the bottom and both of us had hair wrapped around our hands after just one length to say nothing of the plaster stuck to my foot. Spa better part but relaxation room constantly disturbed by noise of weights being dropped in the gym. Not the relaxing experience was expecting. Go elsewhere is advice.
Positive experience: Lovely spa session. The pool did have a lot of children in at one point which was not that relaxing when having a spa. However staff were friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out and I love the swimming pool.
Negative experience: My dad after a period of ill health joined our local gym at Broadstairs. Him and mum attended the local gym and signed up. After 6 months my dads heart issues returned and he had to leave his job. They kept the membership open but did not use for months in the hope of returning. However Dad has had several heart ablations and a stent fitted but still in AF. He tried cancelling their gym membership. This is when Mr Bannatyne starts to show his true colors. They were told that when they signed up it was a minimum one year contract! Dad showed them medical letters etc and yet they still pressurised him into paying a few more months to get out the contract. They are truly awful have no regard for people just your money. How Mr Bannatyne sleeps at night is beyond me.
Negative experience: Be careful if they suggest putting money onto your wrist band. I did this and they then lost my money until after I’d ended my membership over 18th the later so of course I can no longer spend the money. Similar experience with the spa who cancelled my booking last minute and just ignored all of my communications requesting a refund until I eventually gave up. Finally someone got back to me nearly THREE years later saying I was issued a voucher which of course expired as no one actually ever sent it to me and there is nothing they can do. Of course legally they are required to issue a refund not a voucher anyway as they were the ones to cancel the treatment after I’d paid. So, in total around £80 stolen from me, £40 on the wrist band and £40 on the spa treatment. They’re now admitting they did take this money but still refusing to refund it!
Positive experience: Good enuf coffee, and really nice staff, always friendly and always pleasant... That's not always been the case..
