Negative experience: Unhelpful customer service staff, make it difficult to cancel membership’s always asking for further payments before allowing cancellation. cancellation due to equipment always busy as people sit for long period of time while using phones not equipment. Paying for something that wasn’t used for 7 months.

Fantastic experience: The body combat and body pump classes with Andrea are the best. We appreciate her energy and effort every session.

Negative experience: Do not sign upto this gym, the membership is a scam and almost impossible to leave. I've paid £160 more than I was supposed to, and they still sent my debt to creditors even though I have emails from them saying its all sorted. Gym is also always too busy and old equipment, pool is tiny and hard to get a lane.

Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM !!!! 12 Month membership difficult to cancel anywhere online. A massive con. Stay clear. The office staff are disgusting. Its a money making driven machine. Bannatyne's Gym Coulby Newham is notorious for its poor treatment of members, often making people feel more like a transaction than a valued customer. The gym is rigid with its policies, such as its inconvenient card-only payment system, with no exceptions or understanding for members who prefer other methods. The customer service is often unhelpful, with little regard for addressing member concerns or offering flexibility. Despite charging premium rates, the gym frequently falls short in maintaining its facilities, with outdated equipment, overcrowded spaces, and cleanliness issues that remain unaddressed. Members often feel locked into contracts, with no real support or incentives for loyalty. In short, Bannatyne’s Gym seems more focused on squeezing every penny from its customers than creating a welcoming or supportive fitness environment.

Negative experience: Gym always rammed so difficult to plan training. Showers are disgusting and always smell. Also haven't been updated for a long long time. Pool area with is OK but again the steam room often smells and tiles missing all over it. Always takes an age for equipment to get fixed even when it's a simple small repair.

Negative experience: Absolute Thieves! After cancelling a membership after the 12 month contract had ended my partner has been harassed by these thieves stating she needs to pay them £60+ when she asked for the gym to cease after 12 months. upon purchasing the membership she was guaranteed it was only for 12 months as she was going back to uni. She cancelled direct debit after they took the 13th month and now they are stating she was still in a rolling contract and needs to pay a random fee (which it says nothing about in her contract) they keep making up garbage probably thinking she’s an easy target! Absolutely disgraceful, don’t join this gym they will con you out of as much as you can. On top of that they are rude, unhelpful and nowhere near the standard you expect of a gym. DO NOT JOIN!

Negative experience: The gym itself is small with limited free weights and bars. I tried morning, lunch time and evening but still found it to be busy whenever I went. Classes get booked up so fast you have to be on the app ready to book as soon as they’re released which means you have to plan ahead / very little chance of being able to book onto something a day or two prior. It was difficult to access the equipment I wanted / book onto classes and definitely not worth the monthly cost.

Fantastic experience: Favourite gym ever joined. So relaxing and love the classes and the pool area.

Negative experience: Disappointed in the quality of this gym. All the gyms I've visited with Bannatynes suffer with the same issue, they are all crammed in space and lacking quality. For what you pay, you should expect more. The pool is tiny and dated. Reminds me of a council ran gym!

Fantastic experience: Hard work to be fair. Don't be fooled by the photos on the website, all the models with big happy, smiley faces all over, making it look a breeze. It certainly isn't. My experience was far from this, farting and blowing, not good. I know it's not meant to be easy, but wow! Apart from that, that staff are quality and the facilities very good also.

Negative experience: This place just isn't worth the money unfortunately, it's so expensive and the gym is tiny.. you will struggle to get on machines because it's always packed and theres typically only 1 of everything except treadmills and bikes .. they also allow kids in so there's lots of large groups of kids that hang around on machines and hog them.. The gym itself could really do with a full clean, the ceilings and light fixtures are matted with dust, as well as the sides of walls. The pool area is all going rusty and it looks terrible. Also the pool here is so tiny you can only really comfortably fit 3/4 people in it I find it appalling with bannatynes that you can't use your membership at other bannatynes gyms. I tried to go to the ingelby one and was stopped and told no I need to pay extra to go there, even though I already fork out a hefty fee a month which is double what onegym charge and with their gyms you can access all their sites with the same membership! I've heard cancelling your membership here is very difficult which is unfair for those who can no longer afford it If I had the chance I'd go back and join a different gym instead of bannatynes but I'll have to stick with it for a year now.

Negative experience: I cancelled my contract and explained my monthly outgoings have gone up with energy bills. The lady i spoke didn't care and said my account would be passed to a collections agency. Now they are hounding me with phone calls and letters over £200. Are customers not allowed to cancel their membership.

Negative experience: Terrible. Too small, too busy, poor customer service and they try to make it as difficult as possible to cancel your membership. Don't join.

Negative experience: Extremely unhelpful staff, showers are filthy and have experienced racial abuse from other gym members on several occasions. Very intimidating atmosphere. Gladly left and joined Total Fitness. Never been happier.

Fantastic experience: Complete sporting events center. Great place.

Negative experience: Having recently joined, i find the gym itself pretty good although limited, plenty of free weights and benches, however, most weight machines are limited to 1. Plenty running machines and bikes etc, the classes are very good, with a good mix of friendly people. Worst part I would say are the showers, which remind me of a 1970's secondary school, broken heads, hot when want to be cold, very disappointing and I expected higher from a health club, The graffiti in the sauna is always a good read when trying to pass time, this also looks to be 20+ years old.

Negative experience: Main problem Is the members, barbels and bumbbells are left out not put back, machines are left loaded nobody ever seems to put weights back after use, seems to be more of a social for a lot of people, get big groups of kids stood around the same machine for ages seemingly doing very little, machines very rarely cleaned down after use, there seem to be absolutely 0 rules enforced in the gym, the sauna also dosnt seem to be overly hot

Negative experience: Unprofessional environment, incredibly rude and lazy staff. Sauna and steam rooms always out of use.

Positive experience: It's got everything I need at a decent price. Machines are pretty well maintained. Loses one point for lax enforcement of member rules (omg wipe your machines) and the fact the pool is closed off many weeknights for children's swimming lessons (which also means the ladies changing rooms can get full of kids). Staff are great.

Negative experience: Lacks a fair bit of equipment that others gyms have, mobs of kids that the staff can’t control, looking pretty tired and worn down. Needs some work but overall guess it does a job to a certain extent.

Negative experience: This place is filthy. None of the member's clean the equipment before or after use. Men sneezing and coughing on the equipment. Staff not challenging member's about this. There was one sanitising station for your hands and this was empty. Not impressed with this gym at all.

Negative experience: Do not sign up using the in gym computers!! Just pull out your phone and sign up on their website directly. If you sign up on their computers and want to cancel within the cooling off period, you won't be allowed to, as they say you've seen the gym. So just sign up on your phone, it's exactly the same process.

Positive experience: Great spa day. Facilities were lovely and clean. Had a lovely morning swim, jacuzzi and sauna. Beauty treatments were fabulous. Back, shoulder and neck massage, oil scalp massage and then a lovely relaxing facial. Staff friendly and very helpful. Lunch was lovely. Cafe area clean and relaxing. Staff very friendly. After lunch we went to the relaxing room for hot stone beds and water beds. Unfortunately this was the down side. There are 4 hot stone beds and 2 water beds. 8 people used the stone beds whilst we were their and 2 sat waiting. 2 people walked out as sick of waiting. The same 2 people were still on the water beds all of this time. One was sound asleep the other sat playing on their mobile not even on spa day.So selfish. Think a time system would be useful so if you paid for the spa day you would get to use all of the facilities.

Fantastic experience: Well equipped, friendly and clean. Forward-thinking company if the invaluable electric car chargers in the car park are anything to go by. Brilliant.

Negative experience: Going downhill, its a shame that they have started with the cost cutting yet again, the showers are looking very tired now, I am not sure they have ever had a proper clean, I would guess that about 50% of people clean the machines after use, this is not helped by the fact that the anti bacterial wipes are no longer available (cost cutting?) The machines are fine and the staff are ok, some are up their own ar** but the majority are helpful.

Negative experience: Totally unethical company. Best avoided in my opinion. They cancelled my partners membership then months later sent a debt collection company to recover money that would have been due had they themselves not cancelled it. Here is my feedback (unanswered) to them Dear sir/madam Please cancel my membership forthwith. Please refund any monies due to me. Contact me directly for means of payment. I am totally shocked and appalled by your outrageous treatment of my partner Ms J and I no longer wish to have any dealings or connection with your company. Background - My partner suspended her membership as she was going abroad for a couple of months. Upon return late in May she contacted the gym to reinstate and was told that this could not be done until 1 June. On the 1 June she called again to reinstate, and was told she couldn’t reinstate because HER MEMBERSHIP HAD BEEN TERMINATED. Although unsatisfactory, she decided to leave it at that. Today, she received a letter from a debt collection company for outstanding fees due plus a £40 admin charge as you had been unable to collect the monies. A total of £176.88, which in a state of shock she has paid. There has been NO REQUEST FOR MONIES by yourselves. At any time. Furthermore, she has been unable to use the facilities because her membership was CANCELLED BY YOURSELVES. I am totally appalled and outraged by the behaviour of your company. How dare you send debt collection letters for monies never requested and undue as you yourselves had termination her membership ? I would appreciate the curtesy of a reply, but I am not hopeful given the standards you seem to employ. Yours T

Negative experience: I think the club has gone downhill in the last year or so. Several members used to use the main studio and a smaller room for our own training, martial arts, boxing sparring etc, but the gym introduced virtual classes in the large studio, meaning if one person attends them, they can ask other people to leave, which has happened several times. They then filled the other smaller room we used with some new machines, that can only be used in classes, and left us with nowhere to train. The area where people use free weights was moved to a small section of the ground floor, making it crowded, and a large area of the ground floor was filled with a large frame for classes with people hanging from straps. The frame is close to racks for sandbags and other equipment, and I was recently reprimanded and insulted by a part-time female instructor for being close to the people in the class when getting a sandbag. I have now left the gym, as have several other men.
