Erith Leisure Centre

Positive experience: One standout feature is the strong sense of community among members within the classes which are diverse. While the majority of instructors are excellent, there is an opportunity to further enhance professionalism in certain areas. Maintaining clear boundaries in both speech and behaviour could contribute to an even more positive experience for all members. There have been incidents of instructors shouting aggressively at members, as well as making judgemental rather than supportive comments about their abilities during classes. Addressing these behaviours would improve the overall experience for everyone. The cleanliness of the equipment in the gym could be improved, and it would be great to see a more consistent availability of disinfectant spray for members. Many members take the initiative to clean machines, and the mats in the Aerobics Studio which consistently have an unpleasant odour. Aqua classes are absolutely fantastic but using the showers afterwards is a notibly unpleasant experience for example, used plasters and excessive hair on the floor and shower walls. Addressing this issue would greatly enhance the overall environment and member experience. The front desk staff are generally friendly and accommodating. With a bit more proactivity in greeting customers, especially when not on the phone or otherwise occupied, it could create an even more welcoming atmosphere. Their responsiveness in updating class attendance when the system fails is appreciated. While the recently installed/fixed tannoy system is a great addition, expanding CCTV coverage could further enhance member safety, especially with the attendance of juniors. Inspirational signage in the gym and the tvs on the wall are a very nice touch; machine's are usually readily available so it's a great choice when seeking a quieter experience.

Negative experience: Took my daughter soft play. The area was absolutley disgusting! Rotten mouldy food in the ball area. Everything was sticky! My daughters socks was so disgusting i had to throw them away. I even found the hårdest price of bread that must have been there weeks! They claim they do a clean daily and a deep clean once a week I do not believe that in the slitest!! They have a sign that status no food and drink in the soft play area only at the tables but the sign is covered over sp how the hell does the leisure centre expect people to follow the rules??!!! And there are no camera nor do staff check in on the area to manage it. Absolutley shameful and disgusting. And most of all disgusting for parents to leave there kids to there own devices and wreck the area, im so suprised kids havent been ill or even choked on the rotten food

Fantastic experience: I take my son who is autistic to this leisure centre all the time. Today there was a bit of a mix up with timings of sessions and they said they were unable to open the teaching pool. I had promised my son all day that we would go swimming and I know he would have had a meltdown if we couldn't get in. Caleb the manager was very understanding and managed to move the staff around to accommodate. I am truly thankful to Caleb and the staff who helped. Being a special needs parent is an ongoing struggle and having a pool where my son can touch the floor and splash around is so useful for his regulation. The staff at Erith leisure centre made my day a lot easier and I thank you for that, especially in the holidays.

Negative experience: The changing room is ridiculously dirty and has strong urine smell. My 2 yo climed on the floor while i was helping to change to my older one. My baby had massive urine smell after that. All over her clothes, her hair, everywhere. I was extremely distressed. Honestly, this is disgusting!!!

Fantastic experience: Excellent swimming pool, the grandchildren are currently receiving swimming tuition and are making great progress. The centre is very clean and bright.

Negative experience: The pool changing rooms are cramped and utterly revolting. They stink of urine/sewers regularly, the floors are filthy, lockers, hairdryers and showers often broken and you're hard pushed to find a changing cubicle that does have dirt all over the walls and seat. Overshoes are rarely available and when they are, they have usually blatantly been pulled out of the bin and put back in the dispenser as they are wet, dirty and have holes in from being worn. The reception area is always crowded and full of feral children running around or using scooters whilst parents stare and their phones ignoring everything around them. The mats outside the pool changing room curl up at the ends and are a trip hazard, especially for the children running around everywhere or people carrying small children. All parents collecting or dropping off kids for swimming lessons congregate in the same small corner of the changing rooms. Surely it would make more sense to have entry at one end and exit at the other!? The teenagers for the swimming club dump their bags on the floor of the changing rooms, rarely using lockers, and they shout and screech at one another using inappropriate language when there are a lot of very young children around them. The only pluses are the swimming teachers seem to do a good job and the lessons are inexpensive.

Positive experience: Condition of pool is good. Tiling is fresh and clean, no old rusty stains like in pools of busy areas. Despite all of above, there’s huge room for improvement. Although swimming pool is relatively new and clean, it seems like staff doesn’t want to take good care of facilities. Availability of overshoes varies from day to day, probably depends on whom shift it is, or mood of responsible person. To be fair there are no overshoes available most part of the week. Anyway, it’s not a big deal, as I can bring my own overshoes. But what’s the point of overshoes dispenser then? What’s the point filling it with overshoes just one day if people cannot rely on it because next day there won’t be any. Very strange. As I mentioned earlier, it’s not a big deal and I was patiently bearing with it. But things getting more and more funny. Soap in male wc in changing room was not filled regularly, and every time I was not sure whether I should expect any soap or not. But now, THERE IS just NO SOAP DISPENSER. It’s been 2 WEEKS already. Still no signs anyone going to put soap dispenser back on place. It’s mad. I’m talking about basic stuff. There are no hangers in some of lockers. Someone broken them and there are no signs of will to fix that. On top of that, managing level of pool is very poor. There are 6 lanes, and only one of them is given to fast swimmers. And people sometimes take a piss even with the only fast lane we got. Due to their discourtesy they swim too slow on this lane and they see that other swimmers keep reaching them and they’re being on the way. They keep swimming slow on the fast lane where there is clear big board saying “FAST LANE” No reaction from staff. Lifeguard keeps watching like nothing happening. Okay, lifeguard must stay on chair, but he/she could at least call someone else on radio, to sort this out. No, just IGNORING. They don’t care even when some people swim slow breaststroke. Swimmers are not able to keep normal cycle of lane this way, they just keep bumping into this strange person. Even in these obvious circumstances (it’s not just one time) no reaction from staff. No reaction until someone from fast swimmers gets pissed completely and try to get someone from staff to do something. Every time someone needs to get through this stress. We cannot kick that slow person off the lane, as we are same users of pool as that person. Reporting that every time feels bad. End of the day, we come here for swim, not for arguing with people or stressing how to be more appropriate and report that gently. It’s not our job. Our mind should be busy sorting out the technique, not managing the pool. I’m not a pool watcher. Pool itself is lovely and clean. Thanks.

Positive experience: Changing area smells and not so clean. Service at the front desk takes long. However, the staff are amazing , friendly, and especially my swimming instructor Grace

Negative experience: After getting told I would get charged £38 a month for my gym membership, I’ve been charged £48 a month. I’ve been told that as I signed up for a 12 month fixed contract I can’t do anything about it. Not worth the money but the gym staff are nice

Negative experience: Told at reception I can bring the buddy for my baby into the changing area. I wasn't comfortable leaving it in a busy area while stuff was in it. I first thought it was about keeping things clean. However, literally everyone was walking around with their shoes inside the changing area, including the staff. In fact right now I'm looking at a lifeguard in their trainers next to the swimming pool. Guess he's very confident to swim in his shoes if needed. So if it's not about keeping things clean, what's the cause for making my experience 10 times harder for no reason

Negative experience: Lack of consistency with instructors. You never are told when a swimming instructor is not around for long period times. You complain to staff but they are useless. They either tell you they will pass on the message but you never get a response. They keep children on stages for a very long time. Hardly update the swim portal as promised when you initially sign up. Make you feel like if you don't like the result then leave. Very poor customer service and training for staff to handle customers.

Negative experience: Recently went swimming with my child age 12 years old The pool was so cold my child was shivering and so was I When I said the water is freezing they said well it is quite warm outside What the hell has that got to do with anything We are not outside we’re freezing inside Come on we pay good money to use the pool have the decency to make it pleasant to use

Positive experience: Overall, it's a decent place with plenty of machines and it doesn't get too busy. However, the cleanliness could be improved to meet higher standards. There's definitely room for improvement.

Negative experience: After I pay i asked for refund because I don’t want to come anymore after and they never gave my refund. Befor I pay they never say you can not gate your money back. Don’t go there ever

Negative experience: Activities advertised online, you turn up for said activity to be told it’s not on.. disappointed children. Should update website accordingly as obviously not a last minute thing. Place is also filthy.

Positive experience: Female staff helpful.Unfortunately, not fully accessible at present as lift has been out of order for 10 days,which goes upstairs to the gym.

Positive experience: The place is easily accessible, good amount of car parking. We came to use the track field for an event and they had opened the back changing room facilities. Those were not in an acceptable state right from the beginning of the day. The disabled toilet had no lock and no hand-wash. The toilets in the female changing room, didn't flush properly, the water would not accumulate even after 5minutes. The main building facilities are in a better state but we were asked to not use those, some then explained what it was like out on the other side and were then allowed to use it. However, the back door was locked still between the field and the main building.

Positive experience: Nice place but staff were a bit rude.

Negative experience: Staff is rude, specifically female staff. They whistle at you so loud even for little thing make you feel like you have done so sort of crime. If they have to say something, they should say that one to one basis, and they shouldn't turn blind eye for some and are strict for others.

Positive experience: I was at Crayford Bowls club, adjacent to the Erith Leisure centre car park, so I don't know what its like, but the outside seems to promise good things within.

Negative experience: Nobody answers telephone enquiries or returns voicemails so if you are disabled like myself then don't bother with this place

Positive experience: We hired the soft play for my daughter's birthday party. Although there were a few issues the staff dealt with them quickly and overall we were happy. The kids had a great time and we will definitely use again! Edit to add in response to the reply: I would have given 5 stars had there been no issues in the first instance. However we did encounter problems with the toilet and a lack of staff covering the venue.

Negative experience: Rubbish Swim - The Sunday pool is just 17metres ! What's worse - Its crowded & the changing rooms aren't near clean, nor what you would expect.

Positive experience: Great facilities

Positive experience: I dripped my sister in law off here, so mostly felt the car park experience. Really good vibes on the tarmac no tickets which was a real breath of fresh air, speaking of which I used the opportunity to blow up my tyres all set now and that pesky warning light has gone much more peaceful driving about now. I imagine it's nice inside too but I have to use my long term memory for this so can't be certain. Lovely car park for sure :)

Positive experience: Great gym. Never too busy. Lots of space. Would give 5 stars but play same rubbish music in same order everyday. Some motivational music would be better than lifting weights to little mix or Jessie j. Most enjoyable week was last week when had electric problems and was no music

Positive experience: Overall reasonable gym for price, small but has most equipment minus a few attachments that would be useful for cable machines. HVAC needs fixing for consistent air con and better attachments for machines (neutral grip bars) Could do with bigger free weights area.

Negative experience: the service is at a very low level, be careful when you book for a swim, take a receipt because they say that everything was booked for you and they are lie a specialty this lady Maisie M !!! very upset and disappointed!

Negative experience: The place need a lot of improvement. Everything is mixed together. In the changing room there are people who don't go to swim, people with the pushchair and baby's, wearing the shoes from outside. You need to move around them. Kids who are playing football outside , are coming to the toilet in the same changing room ,with the shoes full of grass and dirt. Look like there is not even the smallest rules in place. Nobody from the staff is checking if the rules ( if there are some) are implemented and followed . Dad very bad.

Positive experience: The soft play is a lovely little place for young children however… when you are not able to book online due to site failing and you attempt to call and book as I just did, I was on hold for 40 mins before I gave up on any hope of speaking to someone (baring in mind this was 9:30 - 10:10am on a weekday so not calling at a busy time). Ended up taking them to a different centre which is a shame as the soft play is great there.

Negative experience: Today my first day with my little one . Staff very very rood. They do not have manners how to deal. Lack of communication with front desk and swimming coach. Especially the manager Named Jessi . She does not know how speak with parents. Was very rood. I never ever recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: To be honest, Erith is a cool place. There is not too much noise compared to London. Only one difficulty time is accessible to the station. There is no availability for wheelchair users and mothers pushing bongs. Which is a big concern in the area. Not everybody can afford a car.

Negative experience: ⭐️SOFT PLAY⭐️ Much reduced soft play sessions limits the flexibility, now summer holiday is here and I still couldn’t see more time slots online. Frequent sessions such as 11:30-13:30 isn’t considerate for that is the smaller babies and toddlers’ nap times. So a bunch of people with children including us cannot attend. There is a new soft play zone for tiny babies with a novelty colours that we really like. Small area. Would be quite crowded to contain 4-5 or more families. ⚠️⚠️The area is very dusty!!! ⚠️⚠️ Many dust collection bobbles around, and the toilet door is often left open for the smell to spread across the room. (Users need to be more aware of the rules, and staff could check in more often.) ⭐️PARKING⭐️ Great parking spaces with disabled and parking for “Children on Board”. We could always find a space close to the building, and it’s free. ⭐️SWIMMING⭐️ It’s a nice place to swim and have free swimming sessions with children.

Fantastic experience: Soft play was a nice space my son don't like busy loud places so this was perfect

Negative experience: Quite frustrated with the advertising times of the leisure centre. Advertises to be open from 7am on a weekend - but opens at 7:30 so is inaccurate and annoying when you get ready and are at the gym for seven to then be informed this. A simple update would’ve saved myself and the people outside a waisted journey. Woke up for 5:30 to be ready to be at the gym for the advertised time to be told it’s incorrect and now I’m unable to go to the gym at all due to my work schedule. Strongly agree with the prior review about classes and the complete lack of space. The same people go to Pilates and yoga etc weekly but leave no space for more people. I’m paying for a membership and can hardly use it to its full potential. Gentleman that informed me this morning about the times was polite.

The member of staff who helped was fantastic...she was so hands on!! And made everything easier. I didnt get her name but Thank you so much!!! Everyone loved the venue so pleased...

Fantastic experience: It a very good leisure centre and it has alot to offer both to. Young and old. Such as Walking Netball. 50+ erobic, Yoga and Aqua fit on top of the if you are a member you use the gym unlimited

Positive experience: Visited here for a birthday party, as relatives had hired a space, including a bar. The room and dance floor were great. The bar was quite expensive.

Negative experience: A prime example over overcrowding when such an immense amount of people from other countries and ethnic groups are homed in an area in a small amount of time. Regardless of colour, British is definitely the minority here and we have been verbally abused a number of times now when using the Leisure centre and the field outside by non-British speaking people. We used this place to 30 years but no longer.

Negative experience: I had to change my score. If you are trying to book classes don't even bother they get full up so quick. I just tried to book Pilates at 12am and apparently the service was unreachable to get to see the classes at 12.05am and it's full. Waste of time. Paying a full membership and can't even book a class. The only classes that are always booked up are Pilates, yoga and aqua fit all the rest have space. Clearly they need to have more options because why are people paying a full membership when they can't even get to book one of them classes. I feel that if you've done the class for 3 weeks consecutively you shouldn't be able to book for a week to give other people the option to go. It is absolutely infuriating. The gym and swimming is fine as I said before. But I'm this close to cancelling my membership.

Negative experience: Horrible receptionist and dirty centre.

Negative experience: Lifeguards were truly disgraceful when attended. Pointing and laughing at the children, constantly staring and making us all feel uncomfortable. Shocking behaviour.

Fantastic experience: I go here to play badminton and it's a fantastic place, nice swimming pool, nice courts, a running track and a nice football pitch part of erith town. 10/10

Fantastic experience: Very nice centre, with nice swimming pool. I was helped by Sabine, very calm and positive reception girl, always there and happy to help even for more empatien parent as me .

Negative experience: Pool nice, generally clean but the reception staff aren't really interested in helping you at all. I phoned take a swim booking but they told me to do it on the app, when I explained I get charged more on the app than I do over the phone, she sighed and said "but it takes me ages to book it this end". Plus the app needs to marry up with your booking system, we arrived at 11am for the 11am swim session and it didn't appear on their screen as it had gone past 11am... how does that work? 0 out of 5 for customer service

Positive experience: Nice centre, plenty of parking. The track is very tired now. Only 5 lanes are suitable for competitions, it really needs some money spending on it

Positive experience: I think definitely there needs to be some changes made to this place. The toilet look like they haven't been cleaned in absolute ages and some of the other areas as well looks like it could do with a little bit of a clean. Also they have a football club here as well but centre staff need to be a bit more disability aware sending people who want to watch the game round to an entrance that's not disabled accessible. It's a little bit of the beaten track but could be good if some of the problems were sorted out.

Positive experience: Party room is very small for 30 kids and the soft play is very basic and minimal but will keep the kids entertained for a short while.

Negative experience: Avoid! Will never go again. I have check online swimming pool time table. It was 19:00 - 22:00 General Swim, we came 19.10 and 19.20 we were asked to leave! After 10min! So why you have time table online if you are closing any time you decide?! Staff by the swimming pool was so rude and kept shouting on my children! Worst leisure centre i have ever been.

Fantastic experience: Ideal centre in our area! Accommodates most needs for all ages. Used alot myself for young swimming lessons, don't forget hall hire for adult and children's parties. Popular centre to improve all levels of fitness from the gym to pre arranged classes. Although now the track use is my focus

Positive experience: Locker rooms are too busy, not very clean- although much cleaner than pre-lockdown. They have improved. Toilets need refurbing. The swim classes for kids are good value for money.
