The Abbey Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: We had i great time, very nice location, large pool, nice rooms, and goodd breakfast! Very nice staff!!!
Cornel, Thank you for this brilliant review! hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: spent Christmas day here, worst Christmas meal I've ever had, &the wait for it was appalling, stayed in so called penthouse suit 20 years out of date, spoilt our Christmas, plus side staff were pleasant & helpful, never again,a lot of money for nothing.
Brian, Thank you for your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your Christmas experience with us did not meet your expectations. It’s disappointing to know that the meal and wait times fell short of what we aim to deliver, especially on such a special day. We also acknowledge your comments about the penthouse suite, and we’re continuously working to improve and modernize our facilities. On a positive note, we’re glad to hear that our staff were pleasant and helpful, though we regret that this didn’t make up for the issues you encountered. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will take it on board to ensure we make the necessary improvements. We hope you’ll reconsider and give us another chance to provide the experience you deserve.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place, lovely friendly staff, would recommend a stay to anyone.
Mark, Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Nice hotel in the Worcestershire countryside. Not too far from Birmingham and within Redditch
Freddy, Thank you for this fantastic review. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with friends. We were looked after by Jess Elston who was very friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend.
Rebecca, Sounds like you had a tea-riffic time! Jess Elston clearly knows how to brew up some great service. Cheers to more delightful afternoons and friendly faces! Would you say it was the best tea party ever?
Positive experience: Lovely hotel and the staff were all really nice. Bathroom was pretty nice and modern and beds were comfortable enough. Breakfast was pretty nice and the attached golf course and spa facilities all looked great. Unfortunately golf course and driving range were closed the weekend we were there (because of the weather I think) and didn't have time to use the pool etc. Room was very spacious but you could hear anyone or anything walking about outside or above the room. They did have EV charging (6 points available) at £10 per hour or £30 overnight. Not sure what speed they were but seemed extremely expensive so didn't bother with it.
Paul, It sounds like you had a generally pleasant stay at the hotel. The modern bathroom, comfortable beds, and nice breakfast must have been enjoyable. It's unfortunate that the golf course and driving range were closed due to the weather, and it's a shame you didn't have time to use the pool and other facilities. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Awful meal Cold undercooked All 3 courses were disgusting £40 per head for food not edible
Elaine, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are sorry you have experienced some shortfalls during your last experience with us. if you would like to give us another chance please contact us directly and we will look after you.
Positive experience: Me and my partner came here for a 1night spa break with treatments; included was breakfast and 3 course dinner. We had booked this last minute via Spabreaks.com. The good: Spa staff were very accommodating and friendly. They even managed to move our treatments back due to some issues on our way there. The room was very spacious, a lot bigger than anticipated and the bathroom facilities were clean and pleasant. The hotel was very clean throughout and looks a lot better in person than it does pictures. Location is perfect, not too far from the motorway but far enough for it to a be a peaceful escape. The spa facilities consist of: sauna, steam, jacuzzi, pool and tranquility room alongside treatment rooms. Steam and Sauna were very nice, sauna was at 80 degrees and the ladies facilities were also very clean. Improvements: - Firstly, the robes provided only come in one size. Slightly disappointed as it felt very snug on me, even though I am not too big. I would suggest to stock some larger sizes to be more inclusive, last thing you want to do is come to a spa and feel uncomfortable because they don't have a size that fits. This would really enhance the customer experience. - Treatments- I opted for a neck, scalp and shoulder massage and a scrub. The massage felt very mediocre due to the fact there was not enough pressure; despite me asking for more pressure twice. I was not very pleased and the overall effort felt very half hearted. - The scrub was good, but I was told I could only pick from 2 types as the other ones were finished. Slightly disappointed with that. However the scrub felt great and left my skin smooth and soft. - The massage table itself felt very flimsy. It kept creaking anytime the therapist touched me and did not seem like it could hold a lot of weight. I would suggest investing in some proper sturdy massage tables/bed instead of a flimsy pop up/portable one. - The pool was very cold. A lot colder than you would usually expect. - We had a 3 course dinner included in our package. I would give the food 3/5. The nicest options on the menu were not available, as informed to us by the waitress. Very disappointed as it was a Friday night and you would not expect this to be the case. Portion sizes were great, but did not see many gluten free options on the menu. For starters we got lamb kofta and the pea, mint asparagus tart. Presentation wise, the starters could be garnished better. They were thrown ontop of some shredded lettuce which looked a bit daft. For mains we ordered fish and chips, and a roast turkey ( beef was not available that night). Fish and chips was great, decent portion and freshly made. Turkey was adequate, but do not expect a xmas dinner like you would at home. This came with 2 pieces of broccoli, cauliflower, roast potato, red cabbage and 1 pig in blanket. However, we did ask the waitress for a little bit more of the pigs in blankets to which she nicely accommodated. Dessert was by far the best. We ordered the chocolate and orange tart alongside the white chocolate and raspberry creme brûlée. Nicely presented, tasted Devine and hit the spot. Breakfast- was nothing special. Your standard buffet style breakfast. Bacon, sausage, hash brown, beans, and fried egg. I usually like to have fruit with my breakfast, but I was rather put off by the lack of choice. It was tinned fruit, by the look and taste of it, and did not taste very fresh. I was hoping for a fresher variety rather than tinned apricots etc. The orange juice also had a very watery diluted taste. Overall, the place and staff were very nice and the food was adequate but unfortunately nothing really wowed me enough to come back here again.
Harpreet, It sounds like your spa break had a mix of positives and areas for improvement. The accommodating and friendly spa staff, spacious room, and clean facilities must have made for a pleasant stay. The location also seems ideal for a peaceful escape. Overall, it seems like there were some enjoyable aspects, but also several areas that didn't quite meet expectations. Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback.
Positive experience: Food is kinda boring, and feels frozen almost watery in many instances. Rooms are somewhat dated and feels like going back in time. I've tried room service, several stays and it typically just rings out to then have to go to reception to order.
Brad, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your recent experiences didn’t fully meet your expectations. We take your comments about the food and room quality seriously and will review them to ensure we can offer a more enjoyable and modern experience. Regarding room service, we apologize for the inconvenience you faced with ordering and will look into improving this service for our guests. We truly appreciate your insights, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide a better stay on your next visit.
Positive experience: Stayed 3 nights. Staff so welcoming and friendly. Odile on reception and Charlotte and Juliet in the restaurant were outstanding. Difficult to find veggie options for 3 nights and some choices not available. Portions varied considerably on different nights. Sloping ceiling in room slightly challenging for a tall person! Overall very comfortable and an enjoyable stay.
Penny, Thank you for your lovely feedback! We’re so glad to hear you had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It's wonderful to know that Odile, Charlotte, and Juliet made such a positive impression with their welcoming and friendly service. We will certainly take your comments about the vegetarian options and portion sizes into account to ensure a more consistent experience for future guests. We also appreciate your note about the sloping ceiling and will consider this for guests who may be taller. Thank you again for your insights, and we hope to welcome you back soon!
Fantastic experience: Had a great time at the wedding everything went well.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad to hear you had a great time at the wedding and everything went smoothly. We hope to welcome you back soon for another wonderful occasion!
Negative experience: Don't really know where to start with this review i got married at abbey couple of weeks ago and can only describe it as a shambles on their part. First off I had 5 co ordinators in the 12 months leading up to my wedding the last one being a week before. Our wedding breakfast which we went and tasted and tweeked to what we wanted and also sitting down with the chef after was wrong which led to myself and husband having chicken gougons and chips. There was no heat so guests and myself were freezing and when i enquired the answer I got was oh yes the system is broken so instead of making sure heaters were dotted around and rooms were warm off their own backs they waited until I enquired about the heat and that's when 1 heater was bought out others came later but we're never put on. No chairs were put in bar area par my request so guest could sit and chill away from music which resulted in them sitiing on floor. My dj wasn't even booked and he got sorted 1 week before our. My wedding cake was meant to be cut up and given out to guests. But 3 weeks later I get an email asking if I'd like to collect my cake which is now no good to eat and I'm talking nearly half of my wedding cake was still left safe to say I will not be recommending abbey friends or family which is a shame
Tracy, Thank you for sharing your experience. We truly regret that your wedding day did not meet your expectations, and we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered. We understand how important these moments are, and it’s clear we fell short in several areas during your special day. We’ve taken your concerns seriously and have worked to address them. In an effort to resolve the situation, we have issued a refund, as we want to ensure you feel heard and valued. Your feedback is crucial to us, and we’ll be using it to improve our services moving forward. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused, and we genuinely appreciate your patience. We wish you and your husband all the best.
Positive experience: I've been to the Abbey Hotel a number of times for spa days, overnight stays or stand alone treatments. A few years ago this was an amazing spa. Now, it it only average at best for a few reasons: The number of working lockers is getting smaller and smaller everytime I go. The locks on a high number now do not work. The number of loungers/chairs is no longer sufficient for the number of guests and there are people who leave towels on them all day and the staff don't ask them to move them. I've not once had the same Indian head massage. Everytime it's been different. But the time this week really disappointed me: I booked a double treatment with an Indian head massage immediately followed by a hot stone massage. This should have been a total of 40 mins + 30mins according to their online treatment guide. I was taken 10 minutes late for my appointment, with apologies that the last treatment over ran. But, in total, both my treatments ended after 50 mins! Obviously in the treatment room you have no concept of time. Only when I dressed did I see. I immediately went to the desk to query it. The manager was on hold on the phone, and wasn't really that interested. A lovely therapist tried to help and offered me an appointment later in the day, which I couldn't do. She then asked the manager (still on the phone) if there was anything else that could be done (rebook or voucher). The manager ignored her. I had to leave, so made it clear the quality of the massage was good, but the time was not as advertised. The therapist agreed and said she would talk to my therapist. After leaving the spa, I emailed them to follow up on my disappointment. After 2 days I haven't heard anything. So I forwarded my email to their main team. Again, I've heard nothing. Customer service has really gone downhill in the past few years. I'm now giving serious consideration to no longer using them for my treatments and shall look to The Southcrest Hotel and their spa. On the flip side, the hotel rooms are very nice, clean and modern. *** UPDATE *** The spa have reached out and have been very apologetic and have offered me a voucher to make up for my disappointment, which they verified on CCTV. I have updated by star rating accordingly.
Positive experience: No view of golf course from room, just other bedrooms, it's not really a spar the pool was full of young children having swimming lessons very noisy and busy, golf range closed at 6.30 so no chance to use after work , expensive room only experience as couldn't use spar pool or driving range.
Susan, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear about your experience with the views and the availability of amenities. We strive to ensure that all guests enjoy a peaceful and fulfilling stay, so it’s disappointing that we missed the mark during your visit. Regarding the view from your room, we do have rooms with various outlooks, and if you’d like a view of the golf course in the future, we’ll gladly make a note to prioritize this for you. I apologize for the inconvenience with the pool and driving range timings. While we do offer swimming lessons for local families at certain times, we aim to provide a balance for both our guests and community use. I'll also share your feedback with our team to explore ways to improve the experience for guests who want a quieter pool experience. Thank you again for your valuable insights, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to show our improvements.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel to stay in, fantastic location if you’re going to the races or town but just be aware it is on 1 of the main roads in & out of York so it can be noisy. Staff are amazingly welcoming and warm.
Muz, Thank you for taking the time to review the last experience, but it seems that is meant to be for another establishment than The Abbey Hotel Golf and Spa Redditch.
Negative experience: Really bad experience here on a golf day yesterday. Booked this with Dean over a month ago and explained I’d want 2 buggies which he said he’d reserves but weather dependent. Called 1 day before to check this was still fine and Dean said they’ll do a weather check at 7:30am to determine if the buggies can go out which is fine. Get there on the day to find out NO buggies have been reserved for us but instead have been reserved for others later in the day! We were playing 36 holes and he’d even prioritised others playing after our second tee time rather than us! Really unhappy and would never play here again.
Nick, Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m truly sorry to hear about the frustrations you faced during your golf day. It sounds like there was a clear miscommunication around the buggy reservations, especially after taking the time to confirm details in advance. This situation certainly doesn’t meet our standards, and I apologize for the inconvenience it caused during what should have been an enjoyable day on the course. I’ll be following up with Dean and our team to ensure our booking process is more reliable and that all guests receive the amenities they expect, especially when reservations have been made in advance. We want to make this right for you, so if you’re open to giving us another chance in the future, we’d be happy to do everything possible to ensure a seamless experience. Thank you again for your feedback, and we regret that we missed the mark this time
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing stay at The Abbey Hotel! We received a free room upgrade upon arrival, which was a wonderful surprise. The pool and spa facilities were outstanding, and the golf course was a great bonus. The overall atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The location is also perfect for a peaceful getaway. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious and refreshing experience. I’ll definitely be back!
Denis, Thank you for the brilliant review. I am pleased you have enjoyed and we are hoping to see you again soon!
Negative experience: I stayed at the Abbey hotel for a convention near by....My wife booked it thinking it was an upgrade to my normal stay at the Prem inn....No such luck! Defo cost more, cleanliness very poor, hair all over the bath tub, mould on the shower gaurd, food poor, room extremly cold, televisions 1 and only channel functioned for around 19 mins and then ceased working.....Overall possibly the worst stay I've experiance for a good long while, wont be returning! 11/10/24
Audrey, Thank you for taking the time to review us regarding your last stay. I am sorry you have experienced some shortfalls, please rest assured I have let our Housekeeping Manager know.
Positive experience: Good staff Charlotte great. Food average. Rooms big. Spa not clean and staff bored! Golf course good but greens need attention.
Julie, Thank you for this review. Please rest assured I have passed your kind words to Charlotte. We do hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Hotel was ok and the rooms were comfortable. Hot water for showers was a bit hit and miss! The meal in the restaurant wasn't great, tiny portions and nothing was hot. There were a couple of large groups in and think this affected their ability to serve. Breakfast on the Sat morning was shockingly bad. We went down at 9.30 and there was no eggs or hashbrowns left, no yogurt and tinned peach slices were the 'fruit' available. Really poor, although the following morning was 'slightly' better. Staff were nice but the golf course and greens were in poor condition. There are better places to spend a weekend.
Kerry, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I’m glad to hear that you found the rooms comfortable, but I sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered during your stay. I appreciate your feedback regarding the hot water in the showers. We understand how important a consistent supply of hot water is for our guests, and I will ensure this is addressed with our maintenance team. I’m sorry to hear that your dining experiences did not meet your expectations. The concerns you raised about portion sizes and temperature in the restaurant are unacceptable, and I will be discussing these matters with our culinary team to ensure we improve our food quality and service, especially during busy periods. It’s disappointing to hear that breakfast fell short as well. We strive to provide a variety of fresh options, and I apologize for the lack of availability during your visit. I will be working with our kitchen staff to ensure that we better anticipate guest needs and maintain a consistent standard throughout service hours. Additionally, I appreciate your comments about the golf course conditions. We take great pride in maintaining our facilities, and I will make sure your feedback is shared with our golf management team for further review. Thank you for recognizing our staff's efforts. We aim to provide a welcoming atmosphere, and I’m glad you found them nice during your stay. We value your feedback and take it seriously as we continually work to enhance our guests' experiences. I hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future to provide a better experience.
Fantastic experience: Nice facilities, everything is clean and tidy. The girls in the Spa are really lovely and gave fab massages. All the staff were friendly and helpful
Lucy, Thank you for this magnificent review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Stayed on a Sunday night for a small golf group of 6 on one of their stay and play packages and all of us were very impressed by the quality of rooms and service provided by the hotel as well as the presentation of the golf course. Particular kudos goes to the restaurant and kitchen staff - excellent food and service. The golf course is an interesting layout with plenty of thought required to return a good score. Pace of play was good. Would certainly return.
Chris, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: They gave our room to someone else! I booked a year in advance for a family wedding nearby and when I checked in there was no room available for me! It seemed they thought I could sleep on the street until I got annoyed and they eventually booked another hotel for us! Pure greed!
Positive experience: An ok only hotel, very tired decoration wise, breakfast was average, evening meal was better. Pool area was good
Positive experience: We have stayed before and happily returned The hotel is good staff were excellent. Evening food was a disappointment, my food was cold but it was rectified quickly so I was satisfied with the handling.I wish they did fresh veg not pickled veg but that's just my personal taste. Breakfast was excellent Spa treatments were good. The lady who did my treatment was lovely. On booking I had a treatment time of 2.30, this was changed without telling me, luckily I had rang the day before but if I hadn't I wouldn't of known. It wouldn't have caused a problem for me, but it was worth calling the day before to check. Overall, a really good experience definitely would come again and would recommend
June, thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, great staff. Clean and tidy. Beautiful. Surroudings Great place to get married .
Simon, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: We came here for a spa afternoon. The hotel was in a lovely setting and staff very attentive. Our afternoon tea sandwiches didn't taste the freshest, but the warm scone with Jam and cream and hot drinks were lovely. The glass of prosecco was lovely too. The gym was well equipped. My sister's say the steam room was the best that they have been in. Pool nice. Treatment was lovely. I had a back and shoulder massage. Therapist very attentive and checked pressure is ok. Felt very refreshed after. Best neck and shoulder massage I have had. My sister's had a manicure, which they were pleased with and liked this as a treatment option. Couple of things that could have improved experience - hence drop of 2 stars. - better maintained showers, ensuring showering items are kept topped up and available in all showers. - larger relaxation room. It was relaxing (when groups of people weren't chatting away), but very small compared to other places I have visited. Only 2 loungers, with a couple of arm chairs and a 2 seat sofa, then bean bag style seats on floor (which were comfy!) Maybe have some loungers on the terrace restaurant balcony, to relax on in the sun and also allow spa guests to spread out more, keeping relaxation room quieter.
Jenny, Thank you for your detailed feedback—we’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed many aspects of your spa afternoon, including the massage, steam room, and afternoon tea! It’s wonderful to know that you felt refreshed after your treatment and that the attentiveness of our team made a positive impact on your experience. I apologize for the elements that didn’t meet expectations, particularly the freshness of the sandwiches and the maintenance of the showers. We appreciate your input and will ensure that shower items are consistently replenished. Regarding the relaxation room, your suggestions are very valuable; adding more loungers and perhaps expanding onto the terrace could indeed create a more spacious, peaceful environment. We’re grateful for your thoughts and hope to welcome you back in the future to show our improvements. Thank you again for choosing us for your spa day!
Positive experience: Nice enough rooms but a bit 'bare' and functional. Family rooms are large - pretty good value for money if you are renting these family rooms. Our room phone didn't work and the wifi was pretty unreliable though. Love the pool - but it does tend to get crowded in the afternoons/early evenings during summertime. Also has a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room as well as a well-equipped gym. Friendly service with a smile. Of course, lovely golf course - good to go walking around too if you're brave enough! Breakfast is full-English but not much else - i.e. served fried eggs, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns, bacon and baked beans, bread or toast, but no croissants when we were there (and we were well in time for breakfast), mixed 'fresh' fruit were pretty dismal (pretty overripe/off actually!), yoghurt, a few tinned juices and cereals, no cold cuts or cheeses. Can ask for fresh coffee. All-in-all, not a bad place and good value overall.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Restaurant Manager who is looking into your points raised. We do hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: One night stay. Service was perfect from the very first smile at reception when we arrived all the way through to the last when we left. Every member of staff were lovely, helpful and attentive. They made the stay. The grounds are beautiful and views across the golf course from the balcony bar is lush. The beers were nice and well priced, maybe could do with a little more choice on tap, if I were to be picky. The food we had during our stay was all perfectly reasonable, price and quality. The beds in the room were fine, but the sheets weren't big enough to cover the mattress, which I've never seen before. The room was very warm, but there was a fan supplied, which helped one of us sleep. The problem was that although there was excellent insulation between rooms, there was almost zero to the corridor, so from midnight to about 3am all we could hear was drunk people wandering up and down. The main reason for a hotel, in my opinion, is to have somewhere to sleep, this was the bad bit.
Oliver, Thank you for this great review. I am sorry you have encountered some noise during your stay with us, and please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Maintenance Manager. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: We haven't stayed here yet, but are looking to book for ourselves and guests for our wedding next year. We popped in this evening for some information and were delighted when Jordan on reception took the time to show us round the rooms, provided lots of information and details about booking with Abbey Hotel. Jordan was very professional and welcoming. It was very much appreciated and we will definitely be in touch to book multiple rooms for our wedding in 2025.
Tom, Thank you for this fantastic review. Please rest assured we will pass your kind words to Jordan. The Team at The Abbey is looking forward to hear from you regarding the wedding.
Fantastic experience: Lunch today. Very good. Nice choice of meals.
Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Came here for a spa day and it was the most awful experience. The massage ran late and they cut the time short, the changing rooms and toilets were constantly filthy every time I entered and they didn’t accommodate for my needs for the afternoon tea and closed the kitchen leaving me without any food on the day. There was also another couple complaining about not being able to get food. The spa refused to respond to my emails and done nothing about it which was further more disappointing. I would not recommend to anyone who wants to go for a spa day, really poor service.
Fantastic experience: We had a spa afternoon with afternoon tea and massages. Brilliant from start to finish. Great staff, lovely food and the massages sent me to sleep.
Hazel, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Just been to the spa express morning at the abbey hotel. We was greeted with a smile and enjoyed every minute of our half day experience. My mum who was celebrating her 60th birthday could not fault the staff or experience at all. Staff were very attentive and helpful throughout. A big shout out to Ann in the Tawney bar for a wonderful experience, greeted with a lovely smile and was very helpful and welcoming for our afternoon tea with prosecco! We can't wait to come back and experience it all over again!
Bethany, Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: A bright spark at head office booked a wedding, a full suite of spa package-rs and a golf event on the same day. I was booked on a spa break for my birthday. I left feeling less relaxed than to begin with. My treatments lasted 15 min (not 25, but also included lying there while the therapist washed up, so really 10). They advertise pedicures and manicures, but it's not either or those things, and youd have to go in the pool after (not gels), so yet more poor organisation there. When we finally got into the pool at 630pm it was crowded, with multiple children. Dinner then seated late, but it turned out that 2 chefs were obviously cooking the wedding and the remaining weren't senior enough. Dinner took 3.5hours, and bar a tasty soup, was mostly inedible (and frankly not what was described on the menu). The wait team were really lovely and did their best despite the insane situation, but our refund for all this on a £325+ overnight stay was £50. When I complained online, I was simply ignored.
Positive experience: Spent a night here recently on a 2 day golf break. An interesting golf course, lots of water, and some tight dog leg holes, also plenty of very mature trees so you had to carefully plot your way around, some blind tee shots as well. It was disappointing that no one seemed to bother to rake the bunkers. Playing on Sunday afternoon, most bunkers were full of footprints!! First thing Monday morning they had clearly been raked by the green staff. Pleasant rooms and good choice of food in the restaurant. Staff were polite and helpful.
Bridget, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am glad you have enjoyed the course and we are hoping to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: I didn't stay here, just attended an event in one of the event rooms and had a small walk around. The staff were very polite and helpful and the entire place, outdoors and indoors was well kept. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to find.
Keith, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We do hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Place looks to be a high end spa and golf course. The room was incredibly tired specifically the bathroom. The breakfast was incredibly basic and not worth sticking around for.
Jade, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you have encountered some shortfalls on your last visit. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Housekeeping and Restaurant Manager.
Fantastic experience: The Hotel and Grounds was lovely. The staff we found very friendly and helpful the food was really nice we will definitely be planning on going back soon.
John, Thank you for this fantastic review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: If you were looking for the worst hotel in the UK, congratulations I have found it for you. I recently had a very disappointing experience at this dumpster fire of a place. Despite having a CONFIRMED reservation for which I received an email about breakfast preferences on the day, and arriving on time, I was refused a room. The staff were RUDE, unhelpful and did not offer any reasonable explanation or solution to the problem. I even tried speaking with the manager, but my concerns were dismissed without any proper assistance. I was belittled and asked to use the ladies room to change into my outfit. This experience caused significant inconvenience and stress, as I had to scramble to find alternative accommodation late in the evening. I was in town for an event and had no option but to stay in a “sister hotel” miles and miles away which was half of the jacked up prices I paid for this Double Superior dump, and a result I was late and missed half my event. Not to mention I had to shuttle too and from the hotel in a shady unverified taxi and as a result had to refrain from drinking the whole event out of absolute fear for my life. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy due to their lack of professionalism and poor customer service. Absolutely disgusting lack of remorse by staff who were standing by laughing as I told them I needed a room as I was here for the event (photo attached). Avoid, avoid, AVOID this place like the black plague if you want a reliable place for a stay/ event.
Positive experience: Nice place, My room was upgraded and was obviously a more expensive room than I paid for, but it was superb. Food was of a better than average standard. It wasn't going to win Michelin stars, but then it wasn't Michelin star prices, and it was of a pleasantly surprising standard. Unfortunately, I wasn't there for the golf, but the course looked well cared for from the clubhouse, and I certainly intend to play it in the near future.
Ian, Thank you for this fantastic review. We do hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Sterling Networks launched a breakfast group here and we were really pleased, the service was great and so was the food quality
Tracey, Thank you for taking the time to write this magnificent review. We are pleased you were pleased with the event at The Abbey. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Went for a pedicure usually I enjoy the treatment but this time I only got a nail polish and file it’s such a shame I was looking forward to a foot soak and heated boots (treatment on my feet) which was what I was expecting When I enquired I got told there wasn’t enough time. I got charged for the full treatment which I didn’t get
Anthea, Thank you for taking the time to review us after your last Spa experience. I am sorry you have encounteres some shortfalls, please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Spa Manager
Positive experience: 2 night stay with golf society . The hotel is fine but could do with some upgrading . It hasn’t changed since last visit 7 years ago. The bedroom was fine but the fan in the bathroom was broken . Staff in bars and restaurant were superb , very friendly and attentive . Golf course is a test and also needs some work on the bunkers which were either great or in disrepair . Greens were fast but couldn’t hold a ball so need to be looked at as probably need some tlc. The driving range has seen better days and is neglected and the ball dispenser broke down twice. Some of the balls were split or chipped.
Hi Mark, Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your experience at The Abbey. We have started a Golf Project wo refurbish completely the driving range, so hopefully we will see you again once it is finished.
Positive experience: Lovely afternoon having spa treatment. Toilets need to be cleaned properly. Didnt smell very pleasant
Dolores, Thak you for this great review. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Housekeeping Manager.
Negative experience: At present, the noise level here is unacceptably high considering the price we paid for our accommodation. We were not informed about the excessive noise emanating from the disco room. Consequently, we will not be staying here again.
Marcus, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry for the noise levels, please rest assured I have passed the comments to our Front Of House Manager and will make sure this is an isolated incident.
Fantastic experience: Ignore all the post's about room quality. I believe that rooms booked for "deals" are older rooms waiting to be done up. I stayed on a two day one night golf trip I was paying standard rate. Back to the rooms, based on my assumption previously I would give my room 5 stars I want the matress Towels big &fluffy and DON'T smell like hotel towells Toiletries from their spa lovely My Room was so clean I thought it could be brand new Shower is double size and perfect in every way I had to abandon golf for my back but the room made up for it My advice Ask if you will get a new room and if you would rather miss out on the best rooms you can buy for the money Worthy of every penny (which is actually 4* price) Haven't had dinner yet I'll update after
Damien, Thank you for this brilliant feedback. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: I went for the spa day and afternoon tea , The pool is beautiful and all the steam rooms are great was a little bit disappointed with the cleanliness in the changing rooms as was a lot of hair and empty shampoo bottles on the floor. The afternoon tea was lovely and would recommend the food and cakes overall had a lovely few hours xx
Keely, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Housekeeping Manager. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Stayed here for a business event. Beautiful surroundings and golf course, lovely facilities and nice food. Decent bed but my room was tired and old and was a little grubby, not sure if all of the rooms are the same.
Ian, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Maintenance team. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Nothing like photos or description, room was dusty, dirty and moldy. Paid for a "executive suit" I've had better basic rooms. Certainly not worth the money. Shower was constantly hot and cold and similar to a caravan size shower. Ceiling fan not working and no A/C. Not all the facilities that where listed. Lift had smashed mirror. Lift also stopped working on the third floor (made things hard as i have one leg) very disappointed and wouldn't return.
Davey, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you have encounteres some shortfalls during your last stay with us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Housekeeping Team who is looking into it.
Negative experience: Stayed for a 2 night spa break. The whole thing was a nightmare from start to finish. Including dirty rooms, mouldy facilities and cold and inedible dinners. Spoke to numerous staff who were not at all surprised at the problems we had encountered and complained to the manager who seemed willing to help but has ignored us since.
Zoe, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I can assure you that we are taking the feedback very seriously and we are looking into the points raised. Rest assured we have started an investigation in the matter.
Negative experience: Played golf here yesterday and quite frankly it was awful. Fairways weren't mowed, balls plugged even on the fairway, rough so thick couldn't find 90percent of balls, bunkers are having work done or should be like hitting off the under mesh.
Jack, Thank you for taking the time to review us. After 170 mm of rain and as an experienced golfer I would agree that the greens would not be cut to the normal specifications. Our team has been working very hard so all or bunkers are almost ready with resanding and new irrigation. We would like to see you again soon!
Positive experience: A comfortable stay but no extra frills. Booked a family room and just as described but some switches didn't work and the decor felt a little tired. Staff were polite when spoken to but not the most receptive and often busy looking at phones. A quiet enough hotel with good equipment but definitely suited to a business stay over a quiet get away.
Peter, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Operations Manager.
Positive experience: A lovely location with great facilities. The Abbey needs a bit of a facelift. The furniture is obviously good quality but need some tlc and new coverings. An easy fix.
Carole. Thank you for taking the time to review us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Maintenance Manager.
Fantastic experience: Visted the hotel for a spa day via 'Spa seekers' they made the booking very easy. Loverly welcome by the staff and easy to get sorted. My mom is poorly and is in a wheelchair at the moment. There was a disabled toilet pool side which was a great surprise. The place was nice. Good seating area around the pool. Nice Suze sream and sauna. The jacuzzi was small and tge clorine was quite strong. It was busy on the day with a big hen do. But we found a space so all good. We couldn't use the bar upstairs fo our afternoon tea due to the stairs, however being able to get a rea and bring down for my mum was great. The main restaurant was loverly and the chap who served us was exceptional. M mom loved her day, so truly thank you very much.
Richard, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am very pleased that you and your mum were well looked after and we are hoping to see you again!
Positive experience: Went for a Spa Break with 2 friends, so had a triple room which was excellent us we had 3 full size single beds. Lovely location, easy to get to and park with great views across the golf course. Staff could not be better. We had a few problems during our stay, but the management and staff bent over backwards to resolve the issues and ensure we were all happy & satisfied. The hotel is a bit tired in places but clean and warm. Families stay here and Children are allowed in the pool on a Saturday afternoon, so be warned if you are expecting a calm, peaceful environment. You need to chose your times carefully. We will go back and would recommend.
SNK, Thank you for this brilliant review! Hope to see you again soon.
Positive experience: A lovely little break but not a quiet spa. The pool area had more kids than adults. The food in restaurant was delicious and service fantastic. Rooms large and clean.
Amy, Thank you for this great review. I hope to see you again soon. As we are a family hotel we have children swimming times in the morning and afternoon, so should you prefer a quieter time try to avoid between 4 and 6 in the afternoon!
Negative experience: The hotel staff are excellent, absolutely lovely people. Charlotte from the bar is an angel, she is polite professional and an asset to the hotel. However the standard of food is simply disgusting. Chicken burger consisted of a burnt frozen Chicken burger (possibly from Farmfoods) on an old bun with a bit of old lettuce out the bin and a mug of chips….. frankly pathetic for nearly £20. Tomorrow we eat elsewhere I value my health!
Campbell, thank you for your feedback. I would like to apologise for the shortfalls experienced with your burger and I would like to assure you I have informed our Head Chef who is looking into it.
Positive experience: Dropped in for Sunday breakfast. Overall impression was ok for the price. £15.95 for cooked buffet breakfast (no details at all on website other than times). Areas for improvement: no natural yoghurt; no cheeses or meat selection. Staff not great at checking and replenishing supplies (ran out of cutlery, glasses, pastries). No entry after 10am but staff started clearing food away at 10.05!! Not much time to select food!
Eldin, thank you for taking the time to write about your last visit at The Abbey. I would like to spologise for the standards of breakfast and I can assure you this was an isolated incident, We do hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: The staff were outstanding, especially the lovely Odile on reception who we witnessed dealing with a very unpleasant guest with grace & dignity. An asset to the hotel, as are all the other staff we met. The food was delicious too. The room was large and comfortable although if I'm honest overall the hotel was a little tired & dated in places but this didn't detract from our stay and would recommend.
Judy, Thank you for this fantastic review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Had a great 2 night stay all the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food and drink was lovely also the room was a great size. Only criticism is i would prefer a double mattress to two singles pushed together.
Darren, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon.
Negative experience: Studley Suite: dirty, stained carpet, mirror light doesn't work, radiator off in a cold bathroom, musty smell, faded old curtains, very expensive for a room much more basic than a Premier Inn. The lovely, engaging, helpful and welcoming Irish Lady at reception was far too good for this 'hotel'. Nowhere near 4 star, more like 2 star. Don't waste your money. Very disappointed.
Tracey, Thank you for taking the time to write a review after your last event at The Abbey. I am sorry you have encounteres some shortfalls on this ocasion so please rest asured I have passed your comments to our Operations Manager.
Positive experience: Christmas party: Room extremely cold due to no heating, no atmosphere felt soory for the entertainment, food warm, and not enough staff (no one able to man the bar as they were serving the food).
Deborah, thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you have not enjoyed the Christmas party, please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Conference Manager.
Positive experience: Booked the Triple Room for our family of 3 (w/ sofabed & roll-away bed listed in the room amenities) as a Christmas treat. We were put in a smaller room on arrival & when I queried this the receptionist told me not all the Triple Rooms had the amenities listed & that larger families would be prioritised for the larger rooms. I suggested this wasn't fair or very honest of the hotel, considering I paid the exact same amount as the families who were given the larger rooms. The receptionist was apologetic & agreed to query a complimentary drink at their restaurant for us that evening. Pool, hot tub, & sauna were excellent - we spent nearly 2 hours using the leisure facilities. Only niggling issue was that children could only access the facilities between 4-7pm & I noticed that this was the exact same time as half the pool was in-use for swimming lessons, which made the remaining free-swim space crowded. When we got back to our hotel room (c.6:30pm) reception rang & offered to move us to a larger room. I explained this would be a bit late since we were heading for our hotel Tapas Bar reservation & by the time we finished we'd have to return to the room, re-pack, move, & then put our son down to sleep. Receptionist completely understood & said that the hotel was still happy to offer 3 complimentary drinks. However, we arrived at the restaurant & were told that the Tapas Bar was actually closed! We had booked the week before & had received a confirmation email 24 hours prior. Big disappointment; especially considering The Bistro prices were about 2x that of the Tapas Bar. The server told us we were the 2nd booking that evening who had been expecting a Tapas reservation. This mix-up wasn't well handled but the food was excellent & the server was super with us. TLDR; although the staff were courteous & quick to action anything that we requested (a noisy neighbour at 2am was dealt with very swiftly by the reception team when we rang!), I was disappointed that Abbey Hotel made some substantial errors with our booking/reservation. Other, smaller problems I would not have expected from a luxury hotel included 2 towels for a room with 3 people booked, very little soundproofing, & broken beside lamps.
Jessica, Thank you for taking the time to review us. we are very pleased you have enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon at the Abbey.
Positive experience: Came for a spa day. Spa was lacking in facilities, and the facilities that were present were worn out (dripping water from ceiling fan, side of hot tub broken). Minimal seating beside pool, and seating that was present was uncomfortable (plastic sunbeds). Nice upstairs relaxation room, but also lacked facilities (no bin, no side tables next to beds, lack of beds)
Angus, Thank you for taking the time to write this review of your last experience at The Abbey. I am sorry you have encountered some shortfalls during your time here. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Leisure Club Manager.
Fantastic experience: Bought a spa weekend deal and had a lovely time! Everything was clean, treatment was amazing, food in the restaurant was really good. Overall, had a lovely time! Staff were so pleasant. The only very very small issue, was in the morning at breakfast... A member of the restaurant/bar staff had potentially drunk something and it went down the wrong way or they had a cold. This person was non-stop coughing for at least 15 minutes. I can't even exaggerate, it was extremely persistent! They tried to go out the back and clear their throat but we could still hear them in the restaurant and then they returned front of house, still coughing. I wanted to go give them some back thrusts to try and help! Poor love! My advice would be, this person should have not returned front of house and the coughing did put me off my breakfast. I know this was probably a one-off situation, but some mindfulness to the guests, in this instance, would have been ideal.
Sarah, Thank you for this brilliant review! Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Attended the hotel for a gathering and had the Henley suite. Lovely space and friendly staff. Good buffet and tea and coffee and a fully stocked bar.
Helena, Thank you for this great review. Looking forward for your return!
Negative experience: We booked an Executive double room for a four night stay. The executive double is described on the website as having a super king size bed. The room we were given has a double bed. We attempted to resolve with the hotel manager who made clear there was nothing she could or would do. We paid 30% mark up on the standard room rate to get the bed type for an executive room which the hotel has refused to provide. It looks kind this is an effective scam for them as most people only stay one night. The room is dirty with dust visible all over the walls and the window is broken and wedged shut in a way that leaves a gap for a breeze to be felt so the room is freezing at night.
Matt, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you have encountered some shortfalls during your last stay with us. Plese rest assured I have passed your comments to our housekeeping team!
Negative experience: Amongst the ear ache of Justin beiber and flow rider I was presented with a raw and tough sirloin steak which costed £28. 0 thought into the meal. Also my mates salad took an extra 10 mins to arrive and was unbelievably salty, And the chicken had clearly been heated in a microwave. Can’t say what the beds were like, as we didn’t stick around to find out, but if they are anything like the food they will probably be awful.
Peter, Thakn you for taking the time to review us. I am sorry you have experieced some shortfalls in the restaurant. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Restaurant Manager.
Positive experience: Nice hotel overall. Friendly staff but as a solo traveller housekeeping let me down, TV didn't work (room 161) so I was a little stuck for the evening and bathroom glasses had lipstick on. Comfy bed. Felt welcome in the evening for dinner, young lad was really friendly and I wasnt uncomfortable sitting on my own, he is a credit to the hotel. Food was lovely as was bar. Breakfast did the job before a work event plenty of hot drinks etc. Nice conference rooms, plenty of parking. Didn't use the spa and it was dark so I didn't get to see the views.
Claire, Thank you for your feedback. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Maintenance Manager who looked onto the matter.
Fantastic experience: Appeared here for a break to unwind and we have. Great location (especially to catch Dairy milk world and the Lego discovery centre) Super pool, fabulous gym (love the rowing machine), awesome comfy beds and super staff. Shouts to the cleaners who comfied the teddies on my daughters bed. Also the bar man with the smart mohocan who is extremely courteous and helpful. Loads of parking and a wonderful atmosphere. I was hesitant to write this review as I don't want anyone else knowing about this gem.
MC Noisy, Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Went for a wake. Beautiful hotel situated on a golf course. Room was overlooking golf course & food was wonderful. Not the easiest place to find, the postcode taking me past the venue.
Denise, Thank you for this fabulous feedback, hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Amazing location and easy to get to. Kudos to Cora, the receptionist who greeted us with the warmest welcome. The room we had was fabulous and overlooked the golf course. The service in the restaurant was fab and the food was delicious. Breakfast was very tasty as well! We treated ourselves to a little swim in the morning before checking out. Thanks for everything!
Tomi, Thank you for this brilliant review. Please rest assured I will pass your kind words to Cora and the team. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Such a beautiful space they have here. We had a view of the golf course and a cute little balcony (worth the extra just for the space). There was a conference on at the same time but it was still such a relaxed environment and not too busy. We used the spa facilities in the morning and the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna hit the spot just before checkout. Lovely choices for breakfast, buffet style with hot or cold and something for everyone. The receptionist Cora, was helpful, friendly and bubbly. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Abi, Thank you for this fantastic review. I am glad oyu have enjoyes your stay and the golf course view in the morning is fantastic. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: I recently attended The Abbey Hotel, for an annual lads Golf trip. The Hotel was okay. It's a little dated in some areas. Rooms are adequate, but with single beds and small rooms, it's not ideal for someone who is tall like me. Yes, I could have booked a double room. The Breakfast was nice, but let down by the fact that they only have one Coffee machine. This leads to massive queues and a lot of frustrated guests. The evening meals are nice. Set menu can sometimes lead to limited choice, but not here. As for the Golf course, it isn't the best. The tee boxes are heavily used, fairway grass is too long and the greens are so firm that it's difficult to stop a ball on them. We ended up playing 'pick and place' on the fairways because they were so long. Not really what you'd expect in the middle of September when the weather was fine. We'll definitely try a different course/hotel next time.
Steve, Thank you for taking the time to write about your last experience at the Abbey. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Operations Manager and Golf Course Manager.
Fantastic experience: This hotel is very stylish, we enjoyed the art on the walls and the decor was also nice. The lady on reception was lovely on our arrival, very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and a good size for our family of 4. Breakfast was delicious with a great variety of options from full cooked breakfast to baked goods, cereal, toast and fruit.... We didn't have a chance to try the spa as it was just a quick one night stay for Cadburys World the next day. However I'm sure it is as lovely as the hotel itself. Highly recommended
Jessica, thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: It was okay, not as great as expected, and I paid a lot for 1 night. The room was not the cleanest. Dead spiders and bugs around the room and in the tub. Hair on the bathroom floor that looked like it was swept to the side. Decent stay.
Gulsh, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your last stay at The Abbey. I am sorry you have experienced some shortfalls with the Room. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Head Housekeeper.
Fantastic experience: Stayed in the Studley suite. Absolutely immaculate. Spacious, great amenities and the balcony was the cherry on top. Amazing staff. The gym is fantastic and the pool/spa was so relaxing. Highly recommend staying here.
Joseph, Thank you for this fantastic review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Me and my partner held our wedding at The Abbey Hotel, Redditch in July. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side, but still managed to have photos in the lovely grounds and enjoy our day. I can't fault how the rooms were set up for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, they were decorated how I had asked them to be and everything went smoothly with the food for the day and evening, All my guests commented on how great the food was. The disappointing aspect was when we dashed outside for a group photo shortly after the wedding breakfast had finished, many people still had their glasses of wine and prosecco toasts on their tables along with their wedding favour boxes and personal belongings. When we came back, all tables had been stripped and dumped on one table to get ready for the evening and no-one knew where their drinks or stuff were. Although this was quickly sorted, I was not impressed and nor were my guests. People's favour boxes that I had spent ages preparing were also mixed up so no one knew whose each others were. It was very disappointing on the hotel and somewhat marred my special day, stressing me out when I should have been enjoying myself!!! I don't think the hotel realised how upsetting it was. The rest of the day went smoothly. Unfortunately come Monday morning there was an issue with the extra rooms I had booked Friday and Sunday, even though I had spoken with Lorraine checking I had paid for everything and she said yes nothing to pay all sorted, I was then charged for these extra rooms. I had an email from 2021 to say they were included in quote but was told on day of check out they were not in the contract I signed? Lorraine should have informed me when I asked and not said it was ok! Was not impressed with the attitude and had to get hotel manager in to sort which again marred the experience. I want to say though that Liam, Steff and ladies on reception were amazing!! The Abbey hotel is a fantastic hotel with lovely grounds, shame one or two of its staff let it down!
Angela, Thank you for this great review and it was a pleasure to host your wedding at The Abbey. We wish you all the best and hopefully we will see you both again soon!
Positive experience: Went with my wife and my dog for a little 1 night getaway. Lovely location and easy to get to not too far away from the motorway. Upon arrival received excellent service from the receptionist unfortunately didn't get her name but she was very helpful and welcoming. Room was nice reasonable size could do with a little updating with some minor issues (one light fitting not working and the bedside lamp not working). Could do with a few more milks and sugars in the room on arrival but you can ask for additional so not a big deal. The bar is dog friendly so was nice to relax here on the evening after a walk around the golf course and again received excellent service from the young barman. Breakfast was also reasonable with the usual selection of hot and cold items. The spa was also good. When we attended there was an aqua aerobics class taking place so the pool was out of bounds but we enjoyed the sauna and steam until this was finished and then the pool. Overall a good stay with lovely facilities just in need of a bit of updating in some areas.
Richard, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your last stay at The Abbey. I am sorry you have experienced some shortfalls with the Room. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Head Housekeeper. We do hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Room was not what I requested but was corrected very quickly by a lovely man on the front desk. We didn't try much of the food as we felt the menu was lacking. We used the spa there, a bit tired in its decor, the staff member in attendance to the ladies changing area looked extremely unwelcoming and made us feel awkward. Most of the lockers didn't appear to work. The jacuzzi seemed to have a bit too much chemical in the water. During the night lots of people being ridiculously loud going back to rooms but that's not the hotels fault and the people had been to a wedding..we found it funny actually. Then at 1:30am the fire alarms went off due to someone opening a fire door. But again, not the hotels fault. Our stay was pleasant but not as nice as I expected it to be. This trip was for mine and my daughters birthdays.
Michelle, Thank you for this great feedback and I am sorry you have encountered some shortfalls on your stay. We do hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Where do I start, my sister in law had her wedding here on Friday and although the day itself was beautiful there were many flaws looking back on reflection of their big day. Considering the amount of money they spent and what is generally expected from the venue and their 'team' it has a huge amount of improvement needed for any future brides to get married here! 1. They forgot about the vegan canapes for her vegan guests who were then left with nothing, also the evening buffet had chips or falafels for the vegan guests.....again this was highlighted that there were vegan guests and they basically had no choice . 2. The chicken had bones which elderly relatives had bitten into and the bride was completely forgotten for her pudding. 3. None of the garden games were put out for the children and guests which she had paid for . 4. The first dance came round and we were not told where the bubble guns were put to create some bubble photos with the photographer , it took a bridesmaid and the bride to go and find staff which were all hanging out in the kitchen area to bother to come and help us find where they had been put. 5. The DJs you have in the wedding package I suggest you change , not only did he not play some of the brides requested songs ,but he repeated the same songs later in the night. A few of the bridesmaids and guests spoke to him to up the beat and get people up on the dancefloor but he just didn't listen. He played a set for about 20 minutes which everyone enjoyed and then referred back to his old music. 6. The bar staff ...or lack of??? The bar was so busy at times and not enough staff on at all, or sometimes we'd go and there was no staff at all to be seen. Also the pricing is all over the place , now. Not sure if you had new staff but a few of us ended up comparing drinks and prices and it didn't add up at all! One round cost us 19.50 for 2 drinks...yet another friend had quite a large round for much less. 7. The room, basic and not worth 159 , the shower plug hole was blocked and flooded the bathroom floor from being on within 5 minutes oh and I found half a strip eyelash in the bed. And my brother in law's room had tea and coffee staines all down the wall. 8. Breakfast , they ran out of plates for the food so I had to use two small plates and ran out of glasses for the orange juice . 9. The swimming pool area, the pane of glass looking out to the garden area is horrendous, it clearly needs replacing and would improve it considerably ,it's so awful and filled with water staines, not good to look at while in there ,you really can't miss it ,it's huge. 10. There are a few other things from the brides perspective too, the bridal suite isnt much of a bridal suite , it's just a larger room, no bath,no balcony etc . She was also told she could book a treatment on the day and when she went down they were fully booked so couldn't have anything done. Honestly for the money I'd advise you have a good look around first before booking this place .It's a shame as it has the potential to be really wonderful but needs more money put into it to get it to a standard that reflects the price tag.
Positive experience: Overall we had a really nice stay for a Spa Break. The hotel itself is nicely decorated and the beds are SO comfy. I had a great night sleep. Everywhere I went was very clean and the service was brilliant from all staff. A 3 course dinner was included with what we paid and it was lovely, all 3 courses were perfect. There was a great selection for breakfast and everything was good quality. The only couple of downsides were the noisy floorboards in room 139, everywhere we stood was noisy. There wasn't many loungers around the pool so we ended up sitting at a table. Everyone that came in after us didn't have somewhere to sit and relax which was a shame.
Holly, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: My daughter took me here for a spa day as a treat. All the lockers were broken, not enough beds for the amount of people in the pool, we had to stand around. We had afternoon tea which was stale, the sandwiches were horrible and the cakes looked like they had been stood for a week. As for the clotted cream it looked like they put a spoon of fresh on top of old cream. As it was a birthday treat it really wasn’t worth the money.
Positive experience: Spa day was very good value. Great massage. Very relaxing, although there were some children messing about in the hot tub when we arrived.
Simon, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely stunning! We stayed for a wedding, had 2 nights in this stunning hotel. The golf course scenery is stunning and the facilities include a spa which is usable by guests during their stay. We would highly recommend this hotel for a getaway, golf weekend or any occasion. Thank you Abbey Hotel
Robbie, Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: We had an Allure Afternoon Tea Spa break. We had polite young ladies doing our treatments. I thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing shoulder, neck, and scalp massage! The pool and spa facilities were lovely. Sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi were very relaxing too! My only complaint was that the pool was invaded by young families at about 4 pm, which was very noisy. We also had little room to swim. Thankfully, they seemed to go after about an hour. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable experience
Fantastic experience: 8 of us had a spa day Afternoon tea, massage, jacuzzi was nice and warm. The swimming pool water was a bit cold. The steam room and got dry room were fantastic on 6/7/2023
Negative experience: We went in for a spa day and the spa area was completely overrun with people and small children. There were nowhere near enough seats poolside so where are you supposed to go? The treatments were 20 minutes late although it was a fairly good massage. The robes and towels were threadbare, the robe was child sized and didn’t go past my elbow. Honestly a really weird place and if you wanted to have a splash about, then it’s totally sufficient, but I wouldn’t recommend you get their spa package.
Negative experience: This place is disgraceful the rooms are the smallest I've ever seen. The beds are horrible if you like sleeping in a volcano the lack of aircon will cause you to sweat throughout the night. The golf course isn't great, the greens are so unreceptive that you can't hit an approach shot, the pin position on 12 was an absolute joke, complete illegal pin, impossible to putt near. No bins throughout the course and no signage to know where to go when walking through housing estates to the next hole is just embarrassing. Now the service, we were a large society but the staff can't even get the dinner right, to start the rain pouring through the light fittings is less than ideal, I ordered fish and chips and when I ate someone elses main who wasn't coming to dinner as a pre dinner snack my meal eventually turned up and an individual member of staff (who I'd love to name) told me I can't have the meal I had ordered because "they wouldn't have enough food for everyone". How ridiculous, this sent me into a rage that meant I had to drive to McDonald's to get some "proper" food. The bar staff are so slow that you might as well order before the golf and by the end the Guinness might have actually settled. I ordered lunch at the bar and they failed to deliver it so I had to ask for a refund.
Daniel, Thank you for taking the time for review your last experience at The Abbey. I am sorry on this occasion you have encountered some shortfalls on your last visit with us. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to our Golf Manager.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful afternoon visit to the Abbey. Plenty of parking, very clean bar area, tentative staff. I had the fish and chips, cooked perfectly. Hotel looked nice. Main attraction for me was the golf course. Which was well maintained and completed the front 9. I will be back to complete the back 9.
Max, Thank you for this great review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Went to check in early, but was told “no rooms until 3pm”. Breakfast especially poor; We had to ask for plates, cups, sauces. They totally ran out of eggs by 9:00am. No pastries either. 10 min wait for coffee and when it did come out it was full of coffee granules (see picture). Rooms were ok, hence the 3* review, but lots to improve on.
Nic, Thank you for taking the time to review your last experience with us. I am sorry you have experienced some shortfalls on your last stay with us.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel. Rooms clean. The staff were helpful too. The only thing I have to criticise Is at breakfast there are no veggie meat alternatives like veggie sausages and no other milk alternatives for anyone who has allergies. But you can make up a breakfast without meat on your plate if you are a veggie. If you are vegan, then fruit and toast are your only options.
Leanne, Thank you for this brilliant review. Hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Stayed here for a weekend and it's unfortunate that I must've chosen an extremely busy weekend for golfers. Found a parking space instantly and then check in was efficient. The room (double standard) was adequate and nothing wrong with it, had a nice view of the golf course. Unfortunately it happened to be a very hot weekend and there was no fan or air con in the room, so I wasn't looking forward to sleeping in it. As we were waiting for dinner and freshening up, the room next door was occupied with a group of loud and drunken young men, there for golf and drinking. I wouldn't usually mind, however the rooms were adjoining and they started banging on our door and shouting things through the wall (not knowing anyone was in there, but could've been a family or young children in there). I initially complained directly to them, but they weren't interested, so I quickly hopped down to reception and asked to be moved. They moved us to a room on the other side of the hotel, which sacrificed the pleasant view for a car park, but had a fan, was slightly bigger and more facilities, so I was pleased. Dinner was fantastic, food wise and service wise and was very pleasant. Came down for breakfast in the morning and it was very average food and drinks unfortunately, service was also fairly poor as I had to keep asking the same person to bring me something which she kept forgetting about. Overall, I'm sure this hotel serves a purpose and is great for spa/golf and drinking, but I wasn't overwhelmed by it and the service we received, dinner excluded. Location 5/5 Dinner (including service) 5/5 Room 4/5 Service 3/5 Breakfast 2/5
Amelia, Thank you for this fantastic review. Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Booked hotel via agent, booking was accepted and confirmed. Arrived on the night, around 23:30, to be told they had overbooked and decided I was the person not staying and they were sending me to another hotel. Very apologetic, yet made no attempt to contact me or the agent in advance to let me know, assured me that the general manager wanted to contact me the following day and took my email and number…. Well that was over 3 months ago and still no call or message. I raised a compliant via the agent and the hotel just said they were sorry and would look after me on my next stay! … next stay?! Be careful booking with a hotel that confirms your booking but is happy not to correctly manage their own process and sends you away in the middle of the night but can’t be bothered to speak to you about it… there won’t be a ‘next stay’! Thanks for your response, which only confirms the issue of not being able to manage your bookings. Yet offers no insight on why that be, indeed why you chose to displace someone you couldnt contact rather than someone you could have, my booking was not last minute and had been made well in advance, so one wonders on the criteria, as i would strongly doubt it was a LIFO principle. Nor does it address that you asked me to provide my details on the night as it was so important for you to contact me, yet.... you never have, so clearly not important to you at all that you let customers down. I would also contest you contacting the agency afterwards, i believe you responded to their complaint only. No need for the 'as you are aware'... no I'm not aware that my contact details freely available on the platform were not on the booking for some reason, as i believe they normally do pull through.
Oonagh, Thank you for taking the time to write about your last experience at the Abbey. I am sorry on this occasion we have not met your expectations regarding the reservation, but I have contacted the agent the next day and also our Sales Manager has also contacted them within 48h. As you booked through the agent we did not have your direct contact so was impossible to let you know prior to arrival due to the nature of the booking, as you are aware.
Negative experience: The gym and pool are fine but during the last two summer's the aircon seems to stop working in the gym. This can be such a problem that I have to abandon my workout and go for a run outside in the slightly cooler air to finish. I have also seen people walk straight into the gym without staff challenging them as to whether they are a guest or a paying member. I also struggle to understand why gym users are allowed to park in the disabled bays without displaying a blue badge. Not the best experience for a hotel claiming to be 4 star and considering whether to renew my membership

Fantastic experience: We had a our wedding here at the Abbey hotel last Saturday 10/06/2023. Lorraine, Steph and the whole team where absolutely amazing from start to finish the whole day went absolutely smooth we cannot thank everyone enough everything was completely beyond everything we imagined that it would be and more we can not thank everyone enough every members of staff comes highly recommended by us we will definitely be back.
Kathleen, Thank you for this amazing review. Please rest assured I have passed your comments to Steph, Lorraine and the team. It was a pleasure to host your wedding. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: My wife booked using Secret Escapes so we had a good half board deal. We are visiting all the English Cathedrals so this was a good base to fill some gaps (Hereford, Gloucester, the two in Birmingham and Lichfield). On arrival we noticed a wet patch outside the bathroom so we got moved to a (better) room -- 224 with no fuss and maximum efficiency. It was a lovely big room, with a bath. The bathroom was particularly swish. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. It seems a daft thing to say but there really were a lot of golfers! We stayed at a golf based hotel before and can't say we noticed any golf guests. Not here. It gave the place a bit of a buzz! Discovery of Redditch - it is the only place in the England with a cloverleaf road junction!
Barry, Thank you so much for this brilliant review. Hope to see you soon again!
Fantastic experience: Quiet rooms and friendly staff, great food and drink service. A huge thank you to Liam and the team for your hospitality and well done the chefs, will definately come back for our next visit in the West Midlands!
Bogdan, Thank you for this fantastic review. We do hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Firstly, what a beautiful location for a Hotel. Upon arrival, I was checked in nice a quick, had a drink at the bar and checked into the room. It was after in the evening, the issues started. As a business traveller staying only 1 night, I have never stayed in a hotel that is so noisy and has not got any level of management. The staff do not seemed to be trained in hostile situations. Being a Friday night I can understand slightly, but there was not a lot of thought in separating the business stayers with the local visitors. There was a rather large group of rowdy males playing golf that eve and from about 9.30pm the noise just got louder and louder and they just got more drunk as the hours went by. It all started at dinner which we could not enjoy one bit, we was placed right in the middle of two tables with drunk visitors and we could not have a decent chat or even enjoy the food. At no point did any staff tell them to keep any of the noise down, they were more concerned about the money they are making. I wanted to sleep early as I was part of group of 5 who had an Expo to go to the next day and had to be up at 5am. Fights were breaking out in the car park, lots and lots of noise till 12.30am. Guests running up and down the corridors, guests banging of other guest doors because they could remember their own rooms. Eventually police was called. The rooms are not sound proof at all, a lot of light comes in the rooms from the corridor. I would never stay here again and I would not recommend it to anyone who wants a nice quite stay and is for business purposes.
Nishant, Thank you for taking the time to write about your last experience at The Abbey. I am sorry you have encountered some shortfalls with the hotel during your stay with us. Please rest assured I have started an investigation in the matter with the Operations Manager.
