Our comment from FitFit UK about Chelsea Sports Centre:
The Chelsea Sports Centre, located in the heart of London, offers a variety of facilities for fitness enthusiasts. With a well-equipped gym that is bright and airy, it's generally not too crowded, making it a comfortable place to work out.
Highlights:
- Well-equipped gym with modern cardio and resistance machines.
- Friendly and helpful staff, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Great location near public transport and shops, adding convenience.
- Classes such as barre fit, yoga, and Pilates receive positive feedback for their excellent trainers.
Areas for Improvement:
- Cleanliness has been a recurring issue, particularly in the locker rooms, showers, and swimming pool.
- The pool has received criticism for its hygiene and maintenance, with complaints about broken equipment and cleanliness standards.
- At times, the gym can be overcrowded, leading to difficulties in accessing equipment during peak hours.
- There have been reports of some instructors being inconsiderate towards gym members, which affects the overall experience.
While the Chelsea Sports Centre has its strengths, particularly in its array of fitness classes and convenient location, ongoing issues with cleanliness and equipment availability are aspects that require urgent attention to enhance member satisfaction.

Chelsea Sports Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Good well equipped gym, bright and airy, not crowded.
Negative experience: Unhygienic, extremely dirty and not maintained well. Such a pity considering the great location.
Negative experience: Unhygienic, outdated, and unpleasant. While I’m fortunate to have access to other branches of this gym, they are in different locations, requiring more travel, which is a major inconvenience. Despite the cleanliness issues (impossible to ignore), the gym is conveniently located near bus stops and shops like Waitrose, M&S, and Ben’s fruit and veg stall. It could be a great if it weren't so old and poorly maintained.
Positive experience: I only go to some of the classes, mostly barre fit, yoga and Pilates, the trainers are very good. But in the last 2 or 3 weeks we the participants have been asked to NOT leave their affairs in Studio 2 (bags, jackets …), and that we must use the changing room next to Studio 1 in -1, which implies three or 4 extra staircases down up down up and an extra 12-15 minutes. This was mainly instigated by one of the trainers who “doesn’t like clutter”. Obviously, in the autumn-winter it’s normal to have more clatter, specially with jackets, boots, etc. that don’t even fit properly in the lockers. I’m not going to list the reasons why you should review and reverse this policy. We the customers who take the classes are always in and out very quickly, many like me find it extremely inconvenient to have to change two stories up, many like me may be considering cancelling our membership if things don’t improve. You did find space for a spa upstairs next to Studio 2, isn’t it more important to provide lockers / changing facilities next to the training area? Best.
Negative experience: The pool is dirty and one week ago there was a broken lane rope so I had to cancel swimming on Sunday
Positive experience: At last... cant beilive thar the gym finally has started to clean all the facilities and equipment and especially the changing room, toilets and shower areas Have been really disgusting and am sure was a major a Health and Safety issue, if inspected. Flies in the shower. Not enough toilet paper etc..... Past two days of frenzied activities of cleaning of the whole gym. I am led to beilive there is a new Manager in.....Congragulations and noticed and noted. About time. Hope it continues as its paid members health is at stake. Also its expected of a business and service that has paid members and expects.
Positive experience: Small no frill gym with all the basics but lacking enough equipment to accomodate crowds during peak times. Only one EZ curl bar for the entire gym and the benches and other large stations are positioned inexplicably close to one another. Locker rooms are clean and smell of baby powder.
Negative experience: Instructors and coaches in the gym area usually blocking the equipment. Sometimes they dominate the machines, not allowing other gym goers chance to workout. There are also times that they are not yet finish with their clients’ workout with one machine, instructors are already marking their machines ahead for their following routine, so rude and inconsiderate. I know they are trying their best to accommodate their personal clients but we are also paying and are members of the leisure centre. I always feel unfair treatment by these instructors. They should treat us equally. So disappointing. If only the gym not close to my area, I really would want to transfer to other fitness centre.
Positive experience: Please send out a notice to members I’m a new member, and getting extremely cross, that some members are spending more time on their phone and stopping other members from using equipment I do 1/2 the exercise I want to because they are spending 10 minutes n phone between sets I want to get healthy not social!!!
Positive experience: Gym has excellent equipment. Pool seems sufficiently large and long. Staff seems friendly. But premises are not sufficiently clean.
Fantastic experience: I go to this place to workout regularly. Sometimes it's really crowded but most of the time you can use each equipment that you need to. It's not a big gym but generally speaking it has most of the things you need to build muscle or lose fat
Negative experience: Poor amount of facilities, but always busy. A lot of people Upd: Rate the thickness of the dust layer
Negative experience: Men mixed with young girls in shower isn’t great set up! Floors more dirty than train stations! Lots of showers are broken! Absolutely horrendous!
Positive experience: Very nice 1930's classical pool. Very cheap at 2.70.. Pity showers do not work very well.. but that apart all good
Negative experience: Twice I catch an eczema from Chealse Sport Center pool. Nobody clean around in and out of pool. All personall to sleapy to do a bit of cleaning. All pool fillters are 3/4 blocked by dirt. Grean algae on bottom. Dirty cabin changes with very low light, I do not recommend this place.
Positive experience: It's a good place to work on yourself and be healthier ✨️
Negative experience: The cardio machines are dirty; it seems like they have never been cleaned.
Very sorry to hear this Aleksandr. This will be passed onto the centre team to review and action. Hope your next visit is a good one.
Negative experience: Dirty and gross. If I could post a video I could show the minimal care and hygiene that you would find on the bathrooms and swimming pool + changing rooms AND toilets; broken faucets on the sinks that wiggle and are otherwise clogged with paper towels. No one uses the foot/ shoe sleeves and has created a disgusting and slimy mud on the changing rooms. The water pressure on the showers is also a joke and there is literal feces on the stalls of the toilets. The floor and pool tiles have turned yellow, the grime in between the floor tiles is unreal and the water is so murky you might think you’re swimming in sweat and gunk. Absolutely foul the condition of the actual inside of the pool, it has been described as slimy by my partner who’s unfortunately a member of this gym. The pics enclosed below are nothing compared to the actual swimming pool but only due to an appreciation of others’ privacy I didn’t think of taking pictures. I’m just gonna say this, if the small and even the big things are so obviously uncared for, I worry for the things us customers don’t regularly think about or SEE in terms of health and safety.
Positive experience: Looks a nice place for one to get fit.
Negative experience: This used to be an ok gym but now it’s extremely over crowded. Some personal trainers are blocking more than one equipment at the time at times when the gym is quite busy and there’s hardly any equipment available. Edit: I posted this review a week ago, things haven’t changed. PT’s and users still blocking more than one machine at the time.
Positive experience: Pleasant to swim - the number of swimmers is controlled. But all flooring in the changing room is very sticky when it’s wet. But apart from these issues, comfortable to swim without jamming.
Negative experience: They could clean the swimming pools, long time they’re dirty and you can see it there. The big swimming pool OMG is too dirty, my niece took an infection from there. Also I would like take a photo and put it on here, but photo isn’t allowed. I hope the administration from there see this review and cleaner the swimming pools properly. Thanks.
Positive experience: Decent gym. A bit small but I like it
Negative experience: Today i went zumba. Sandra the teacher was 25 mins late When a lady told her this is not acceptable, she started screaming. Being late is one thing, abusing someone verbally and screaming to them is not something that should be tolerated. STOP HIRING BULLIES AND ABUSERS ITS DISGUSTING
Dear Kira, we are very sorry to hear of your recent experience and are now looking into this further.
Positive experience: The pool is good, the management is amazing but in comparison it’s not that great!
Positive experience: Gym OK Classes OK Pool is disgusting Went once would never swim here again Changing rooms smelt of urine Hair in showers and over floor along with rubbish Cut myself in pool somehow took weeks to heal
Dear Emma, Very sorry to hear that the pool was not up to expectation when you used the facilities here at Chelsea Sports Centre. This feedback has been passed on to the team here at Chelsea. Should you wish to discuss this further you can drop us an email - [email protected]
Negative experience: I am swimmer (former athlete) and have swam in thousands of pool in my life. I must admit this one is the worst I ever witnessed. This is due to the poor cleaning standards of the swimming area. I was there today and dead insects were floating around in the water. Also, the pool floor has been ruined by algae. From experience I can assure such a quantity of algae cannot happen overnight but tends to develop after long period of inadequate cleanings. For those who do not know, significant amounts of swimming pool algae welcome a breeding ground of harmful bacteria Suggestion to avoid at all costs - expecially for kids as they might develop infections
Dear GM we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your recent experience here at Chelsea Sports Centre. Your comments have been appraised with the centre team and we can assure you that swimmer safety is taken seriously with all relevant parameters reviewed implemented. If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact us via email [email protected]
Fantastic experience: We visited from the US with our daughter who is a college swimmer. She was able to do a good swim workout every day of our vacation and I swam one day as well. The facilities are clean, well-equipped and roomy. The pool was not too crowded (typically 3 people per lane, circle swimming). In a nice, safe area of town. App for scheduling works well. Well worth the cost.
Positive experience: The price for access to both the gym and swimming pool is excellent. The gym's location is convenient, making it easy to stick to my fitness routine. I have noticed that the gym is often busy and there are a few machines that could use an update, especially the ones for those who are starting
Negative experience: Ok facilities but there's workplace harassment that's allowed here and aggressive action in front of kids. I emailed the manager Mike and heared nothing about the reports. I witnessed a very unpleasant situation by a staff member named Akin (I believe). He was at the swimming pool shouting at the life guard. This was 5.30pm last Wednesday. I'm in crutches so the life guard bent down to answer my question for literally 3 seconds while still watching the pool and the swim coach/manager Akin started screaming and swearing at him. And violated my person space while very aggressive and threat of violence. Very unacceptable aggressive behaviour especially in front of kids... I suggested the life guard report this bullying and workplace harassment to authorities and governing bodies. Very shocking this is allowed.
Dear K Jackson, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are looking into this further and you should now have recieved a response to your oringinal message. Thanks, Team Chelsea.
Positive experience: Good location, convenient though gym layout can be improved. Only 1 x training bike in the gym area albeit a smaller room packed with training bikes. Staff friendly welcoming.
Positive experience: I have been using the pool here for a number of years now. The staff are friendly and helpful. The changing facilities are quite simple, but for central London, the price is reasonable and I can use any nationwide centre for a swim which is a bonus. Perhaps the pool itself could have a bit of a clean.
Fantastic experience: Good if into to Swimming ♀️, and a Gala was on....
Negative experience: Having made a formal complaint which was ignored I'll leave a review here - this gym is awful. There is a staff member who leads fitness classes who is rude and unprofessional but the organisation seem to protect her from repercussions. She arrived 15 minutes late to a class and then ignored us with her back turned for another 5 minutes. When I left at this point she called me rude. At another visit I saw a staff member arguing with a customer who was in tears after this instructor insulted her. She's absolutely foul and shouldn't be in a customer facing position. Aside from this, the yoga classes are very good, but this does redeem this horrendous location.
Dear Lucy, We are sorry to hear of your negative experience and would like to investigate this further to ensure this has been or will be addressed appropriately to ensure our customers are getting the expected level of service here at Chelsea Sports Centre. If you're open to discussing further please send your original complaint / best contact number to [email protected]. Again we are sorry to hear of your negative experience and the delay in getting the required response. We hope your next visit with us is a pleasant one.
Negative experience: I've been to the centre a handful of times and (all fool me) something dodgy, sloppy and/or unprofessional has happened on each occasion. The first time, I turned up at 10am to attend a fitness class and the centre, which should have opened at 8am, still wasn't open due to the duty manager going AWOL (most likely hungover) to which the hordes of waiting customers were told that we would have to wait until 11am for another key holder to turn up. This was despite another manager showing up but apparently not having access to a key. The second time I attended another class and the instructor turned up 15 minutes late and didn't offer an apology or explanation ("she's always late" tutted another class-goer). On my third visit, I went to another fitness class and another instructor didn't start the class until ten minutes after the scheduled time. After this class, I went to the ladies changing room, where I saw some random bloke nosing around the room, looking inside lockers and having a general poke around, as if he was looking for things to potentially steal. When he saw me he simply said "you alright?" then casually strolled out of the changing room. At first I assumed he must be a staff member, but on reflection of the event, he wasn't wearing a uniform or name badge and didn't identify himself as being a member of staff. Then again, I do wonder if he actually was, given the sloppy nature of Chelsea Sports Centre and their staff's "no sods given" attitude. Nevertheless, I would implore the centre's management (the ones who actually bother showing up to work) to review this incident and tighten up measures around the ladies' changing room.
Negative experience: Too much equipment in a really tight space. Everyone is kissing distance apart from each other.
Fantastic experience: Clean, up to date equipment
Fantastic experience: Pricing is probably a little steep for what you get, but a pretty decent gym overall. Staff are friendly. Best to time your visit to avoid the busy times
Fantastic experience: Love Zumba classes here
Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN WORST GYM- I asked in person to stop my membership for this club and was assured it would be handled as I was moving back to university up north and they continue to charge me for several months after and refused to give me a refund even though I am a student and they have taken more than £600 from me when I wasn’t even living in London!
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym! Clean and well equipped. The staff is really nice and helpful
Fantastic experience: Close to workplace, with great facilities and friendly staff.
Negative experience: everywhere is dirty, especially the equipment.
Fantastic experience: Good little gym, has almost everything you could want (including more niche things like a punching bag and ropes) but small amount. Can be a little crowded, but great overall
Negative experience: Very expensive for what it is. Loads of cardio equipment but if you are into resistance training you will find outdated worn equipment. No complains with the staff who seems nice enough although I have never interacted with them.
Fantastic experience: Great local gym, it has pretty much everything you needed in one place. Swimming line needs to be pre-booked. There are fitness classes including in the membership. Avoid peak hours can be
Positive experience: Decent size swimming pool and fairly clean
Positive experience: Love the swimming pool - neat traditional baths in period Victorian setting, nice changing facilities kept clean, pay as you go and reasonably priced.
Positive experience: I will be attending again.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a lot the gym, classes: body pump, body combat, pilates.. clean, nice personal. Back to join it with my daughter!
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool.
Positive experience: I take my little boys there for swimming so we are new to it but so far I like it parents get to sit upstairs where we get to see our children swimming down below so far so good
Fantastic experience: I like sports places
Negative experience: Pay cheap get cheap service and lack of standards!!! Cancelled membership after joining again after lockdown.. David Lloyd's signed sealed and delivered.
Fantastic experience: Nice one
Negative experience: This used to be a good gym that I went to for year, and while the facilities are fine, they recently changed their central membership system. This means that the central system has activated my old closed account and charged my cards over £280 in membership fees in the last 3 months. Since they have centralised their systems, the team at the front desk were unable to help me refund this. I have emailed and called the central system however have had every call dropped on me and only automated replies.
Positive experience: The pool looks very nice. The tiles are beautiful. The rest of the place is a standard gym. Good enough if you’re local, I suppose.
Negative experience: The gym itself is very small and there is a lack of equipment, and the equipment itself is just a really bad alternative version of what you can find in other gyms. Only good thing is you pay for the swimming pool but that is also very small and always fully booked.
Negative experience: Very disappointed to see that absolutely no one in the entire gym or locker room were wearing masks in an indoor environment. None of the users or staff members. It`s not a big deal to wear a mask and it makes it safer for everyone. A shame...
Fantastic experience: This is a great pool for swim training. We're just post lockdown and this venue operates really well following the Covid safety measures. Easy to use booking system, one way entry and multiple hand sanitizer stations. There are 2 lanes in the pool, very wide so they provide plenty of space for safe overtaking. You can use the changing rooms and showers after the swim, they are clean too.
Positive experience: I Were In Germany To Visit My Family. And My First Day Is After Lockdown That I Came To Gym, Then I Saw Some Changes which Was Not too Bad... I Hope Everything Goes Well So Soon For Us THANK YOU GUYS FOR EVERYTHING
Positive experience: Decent setup but needs more weights and squat racks.
Fantastic experience: Staff are very nice and accomodating
Fantastic experience: Get gym . Staff do a great job with no doubt some difficult customers. Reception very professional
Positive experience: Great place for swim and gym.
Fantastic experience: Lovely swimming pool. They seem to care about the place. I found the changing room, showers clean. No membership is needed for single adult swimming. £1 is a must to use lockers.
Negative experience: I had a problem with my me membership card booking online. I called and explain Don (receptionist Tuesday 9.15 am) the issue so she said I had a balance for one class that I did late cancellation that's absolutely fine I said I will pay for that but as I am not able to book on line can you book me the class? Her replied was knowing that zumba is quite popular just come and pay on the desk like if she will want to work. I said I do not want to go and be full so at the she booked the class but obviously I mentioned to clear the other balance at the same time she was talking with a eagje so basically she did not hear me I found really rude when you are talking with a client over the phone or face to face be talking with someonelse.,i am sure it was not that urgent that could wait for more minute. I needed to give her my card details again to complete the transaction fully. I believe not the most polite and efficient receptionist to work in this area and anywhere in London that's basics
Fantastic experience: Good pool in central London, and as such can get a bit crowded.
Negative experience: Anybody using group classes: Poor choices of classes (the ones are meant to fill out time of bored people - not fat burning). Cover of a class is NOT a cover as it is not the same class! Randomly done, if at all covered! The booking system should indicate it clearly!!! Weekend classes very slim. Cancelled membership. Got more upset than slim.
Positive experience: 游泳馆稍微小了点,每周日晚上6-8点不能游泳,学生上课
Positive experience: Late pool opening on Sunday evenings.
Positive experience: Nice place decent pool aswell
Fantastic experience: Love the gym. I first got there 9 years ago already and the refurbishment has been outstanding!! The gym got extended..
Fantastic experience: Great venue and helpful and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Brilliant sports centre, friendly staff, clean gym and changing rooms, good equipment including boxing.
Positive experience: Leisure Centre with swimming pool and gym
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff & great place for teaching swimming classes for kids
Positive experience: Uso para nadar. Normalmente a piscina esta cheia e salva-vidas nao controlam gente lenta indo para raia de velocidade moderada ou rapida. Tem que ter paciencia.
Fantastic experience: Very good, gym, swimming pool and classes at very fair prices. The staff are faultless.
Fantastic experience: Go for a swim when ever I have some spare time - lovely staff
Fantastic experience: Awesome wedding
Fantastic experience: I send my sons for swimming sessions and been a member for over 5 years, all the teachers are incredibly nice and friendly. Will definitely recommend, and the member fee is very reasonable for the area.
Positive experience: Decent little gym, nothing spectacular but does the job none the less
Positive experience: I've only been here four times and my impression is that it is disorganised in layout and the staff need more training. Though, the membership is cheap and the services provided are very good. Some of the staff are rude. After a misunderstanding about my membership one man "allowed" me into the gym. His manner was very belittling and harsh.
Positive experience: If there was at least one sauna could be 5 star.
Positive experience: Crowded. kids- ugh ( think messy toilets). mixed changing rooms for the pool so be prepared to see things you just cant unsee...
Negative experience: This gym could be much, much better. If you want a gym that allows you to run on a tread-mill and that is all, this will suffice. If you want one in which you can actually do some weight training you will be left waiting for ages to use the one squat rack/bench press, or the pair of DBs you wish to use (there is only one set for each weight). On top of this, often DBs are broken and are not repaired for ages. The only thing that saves this gym is the cost, though it is still no cheap for what it is.
Positive experience: Incredibly friendly. A bit unkempt and dirty at times. But offers some good classes and sound gym equipment. Recommended.
Fantastic experience: Marvelous. All you could want, including well-equipped gym and big swimming pool.
Positive experience: OK as low cost (or local authority type) gyms go. Kept clean (though if you spot the cleaning bucket, run! IMO the cleaning fluid doesn't smell like something healthy for your lungs to be near). Classes are run well, though my last Yoga class was with a room full of really dirty mats and no heating so bring your own mat and be wary that if their heating breaks it's not like they have a backup heater. Machines have small TVs but they don't reliably offer the internet on many- some claim to but then have "no connection" when you try. And no subtitles on the machine connected TVs either (they claim to but then don't when you try) (not that you should be watching TV if you are trying to focus on your exercise! If you can do both I would question how much effort you are really giving your workout but that's another issue for another conversation!) Staff are friendly and approachable, about 2 or 3 seem to be on the gym floor at any one time and the reception staff are not very far away at all. Lockers need £1 coin which you will get back but the locker wont release a key without one. Changing rooms are communal but there are three veeery skinny changing cubicals if you are really self concious but in my experience no one stares and children (who are naturally prone to staring with open mouths at nude people) don't seem to venture into adult/dry changing rooms. It loses points on the showers which are a joke. Not only are the cubicals so small that you'd wonder if a small child would be claustrophobic in them, but they run cool/tepid and they spray all over the place rather than just downwards. They also are that annoying type that only work for 10 seconds at a go meaning you constantly have to keep pumping the not very easy to push button every few seconds- very annoying! And no shower shelf so stuff will end up on the floor as your button pushing will inevitably knock them off the careful balancing act you may have arranged a shower get etc on. They have hair dryers so one can only assume the showers even without their crazy all over the place spray were intended for both hair and body washing. Just don't rely on the showers washing anyone thoroughly! And for the sake of other passengers, if you use the gym, please refrain from all buses, tubes and trains afterwards!
Negative experience: Edited 20.11.18 Added the below photo of the bench. This is quite typical of this gym. Even simple repairs and basic equipment are left broken for weeks at a time. It’s just not good enough and this gym needs improving. The gym offers enough to get by but it’s just not equipped enough to cater for serious workouts. It’s missing basic weight machines e.g a cable lat pull down and other than one squat rack nothing is plate loaded in the weights area. The space and layout could be utilised better and if it was then more equipment could be brought in. I get this is a public gym designed for everyone but either way it could be improved and the equipment that they do have is getting old. It needs changing up for sure.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great place which I go to early every wrack the changing rooms are very. Lean and nice
Fantastic experience: A great boon to health in the heart of Chelsea. Excellent 25 m pool and changing rooms/showers refurbished recently to a high standard. Fully equipped gym with all the hardware you could need. From the basic weights, rowing machines etc up to some very high tech kit. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Members have access to various classes in all areas of fitness included.
Positive experience: It has a good swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Great treatments professional Veronica Amarelle. ..Amazing Reflexology and Reiki ..beautiful relaxing decor and easy to get to by public transport with lovely shops around in Kings Road
Negative experience: This gym discriminates against men, there is women only swimming session but no men only swimming session here, despite the fact that women and men both paid the same price to use the swimming pool. According to Equility Act 2010 this is an act of indirect discrimination, based on your gender some people get less swimming time while some the other get more, while people get less swimming time still pay the same price as people get more. I didn't know this when I subscribed, so I am writing it here and hopefully more people will see before they subscribe. In case you are curious what exactly happened, I got a monthly sub for swimming pool only. Went there last sunday night, got told it was children's session. Fine, I left, came again on Wednesday night, asked if I can use the swimming pool nicely before got into the gym. Staff said yes, but half hour later got driven out because this time is women's session. I got to ask, what was I here for? Paid the 30 pounds just for changing my cloth back and forth? I don't mind if they've got children's session, but now there is women's session and no men's session. haha true gender equality job well done.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good long opening hours, good swimming pool
Positive experience: Convient
Negative experience: Expectation unfulfilled!! Totally Unprofessional. Twice on a friday evening I have been rushing to the class of Body Combact happy and enstusistic to visit the Chealse gym and first time the receptionist didn’t care about my frustration when arrived there told me. ‘’The class has been cancelled’’. Apparently I was the only one that did not know. I sadly left and told to myself there would be another occasion. Second time, the following week, still full of expectation I have travelled my 50 minutes train from work and got in the class 5 minutes in advance. I found there other people so I was sure this time would be the right time. We ended up to be Eight people in a class waiting more than 10 minutes for a teacher that would never be arrived. We had to go and call the trainers for some news. They just walked in and announced the class was not suppose to be booked online. Well, if you do not think is bookable why in the afternoon while I was calling up you guys said ‘’there is no cancellation.’’ You are a serious waste of time and customer care is clearly not your interest. No more expectation from The Chealse Gym. My advice is that your would take more seriously your organization and your customer!
