Uckfield Leisure Centre

Negative experience: No visible disabled bays, yet they have numerous well signed mother and child bays. One can only assume they don't like disabled at this leisure centre. When I spoke with a member of staff she said no they did not have any. I hope the management are aware of The Disability Discrimination Act 1985 as revised. Now incorporated into the equalities act!!! I shall not be returning.

Fantastic experience: Epic

Negative experience: This is one of the most discusting pools I have ever set foot in. I get its a children's pool as well as an adults but the matting round the outside is all moldy and torn apart and half of it is in the pool which is also really unpleasant because theres bits of sand and whatever else on the pool floor its discusting. It was also really cold in the pool. The showers were absolutely appaling, a dribble of water came out when you turned it on. The lockers were hard to lock and so every time we opened a locker there was peoples stuff inside becuase you can't lock them. The changing room doors were a strange layout, you can't lock the door you have to put a seat down to close BOTH doors and then even still the was a big gap between. Was very disappointed, toom my child here and had to get out early because it was just to discusting. Wouldn't recommend, I hope this refurbishment makes it better

Fantastic experience: A Splash of Fun with Potential Uckfield Leisure Centre offers a fantastic pool area, particularly for families with young children. The pool is a good size, with a thrilling water slide to keep little ones entertained. While the pool's main focus is undoubtedly on fun, it was still possible to squeeze in a few lengths during the dedicated lane sessions. It's clear that the facilities have seen better days, but this is understandable given the upcoming redevelopment. We're excited to see what improvements will be made. The gym area seemed well-equipped, and the ample parking was a definite plus. We would happily return once the refurbishment is complete to see the centre in all its glory. Overall, a pleasant experience with promise for the future.

Negative experience: Disgusting. I’m surprised that this place can still be open in the state that it is in. Crumbling dirty floors around the pool (with sediment in pool), plasters floating in the water, dirty showers that are only a dribble of water, filthy changing rooms, and as for the toilets in the changing rooms - quite shocking, there was poo everywhere and it looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks! There is no way this place is up to health and safety standards. Entry was expensive for what it is so I wonder where the money goes - definitely not on upkeep and cleaning!!!

Negative experience: More YUCKfield than Uckfield Our visit to Uckfield Leisure Centre was a real disappointment and low point of our holiday in the local area. We wanted to go swimming with our young family and called in advance to check all was OK. We arrived and paid for 2 adults and 2 children and after this was when the reality struck. There were no family changing rooms, the floor around the edge of the swimming pool was crumbling, making it hazardous and dirty. The sand like material then stuck to the bottom of everyone’s feet and landed in the bottom of the pool causing a layer of grimy, rough sand across the whole pool. There was no space for our small children to swim due to ongoing lessons in the shallow end. The pool water was cold, and the entire facility felt filthy, with mould on the ceiling and rust on the pipes. Showers were either cold or barely functional & many lockers were not working. We spoke to staff whilst in the pool who tried to help but when they realised there was nowhere our 1 year old and 4 year old could be without being held constantly by an adult, we were offered a refund. When my wife approached staff after our short visit to claim our refund, she was made to wait 25 minutes, had to speak to 3 different staff members and then was offered a refund for JUST the children’s swimming - the grand total of £4.30 of the £21 we’d paid for the four of us! Uckfield Leisure Centre were quick to take our money when they could see we had 2 small children who wouldn’t be able to use the pool! The whole place needs major refurbishment and better customer service. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Positive experience: Nice swimming pool but suffers from a lack of investment, you can tell it is the poor cousin compared to Hailsham, not sure why it isn't kept up.

Positive experience: Decent leisure centre with a range of activities. Also the only one round here . BUT , The pool is normally very cold and the gym is normally too warm, especially when a lot of people are in there . There is no aircon and windows do not open . It does sap your energy . Please get some form of Temperature regulation! This gym can get really busy with school kids/6 formers. The worst time is from half 3 to 5 pm in the week . It's always full of them after-school sitting on their phones hogging machines and being loud . The best bit is they're super weak XD . Still annoying though.

Positive experience: Great pool. Tucked away from view off the main roads. Can be quiet if you pick a smart time to go. A little dirty in places, and the pool surround could use re-surfacing. But the kids love this pool, the tiny "hot" tub/ luke warm tub, is a brilliant attraction for the kids, ad they all use it as a whirlpool by circling round at high speed. A decent slide and infinity pool are also a nice addition. Ageing but good pool

Negative experience: Planned my entire evening around the 8pm swim session (which I checked during the afternoon was on) , early dinner, 30 mins drive over as training for an event to be told on the door they are shut as they have no staff. Brilliant.

Fantastic experience: Excellent leisure centre, friendly reception staff. Haven't visited the restaurant yet. Has an excellent Osteopath within.

Positive experience: We visited here to go swimming as a family. There is plenty of parking available. We got parked straight away, which was pleasing as it was on a Saturday afternoon. Upon entry through automated sliding glass doors you come to the reception desk. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The changing room lockers do require a 20 pence coin that is non refundable, i.e. the locker keeps the money. The staff did not inform us of this, please bear this mind that: 1. You need a 20p to be able to use the lockers 2. You cannot open and then realise the locker without putting yet another 20 pence coin into the locker. So we had to go back outside to get change, which was a tiny bit frustrating. The pool itself is geared up for family fun, not people who want to do lengths. There are no lanes as such and the pool is an unusual shape to make it interesting. The flume was good fun, even though my child was of sufficient height to be allowed on, I would let children on with caution. It would've been too fast for my 6 year old, but every child is different, he isn't a thrill seeker. The concerning aspect was there wasnt a life guard at the very top of the steps at the entrance to the flume. This meant anyone could just fly done behind you without having to wait for the person in front of them to get out safely. I think that may cause potential accidents to happen. The surfacing around the pool where you walk needs renewing. The small bits of stone/aggregate end up sticking to your feet and being dragged into the pool which a shame. We did see some young children who were clearly very cold, as the pool is heated but marginally. My child did get very cold but didn't want to leave as was having fun. You need to keep moving in the water to stay warm. So please bear that in mind when planning your trip. The saving grace is that there is a communal shower that is hot upon exiting the pool before you get the changing areas. The cafe is a bit disjointed, it was once clearly an independent area, but in a bid to cut money you have to go to the main front desk to pay for items, which is a bit awkward if there is a queue of people waiting to enter the facility. All in all I think we would visit again, but not in a massive hurry. My child did enjoy it though and that's what counts. With a bit of TLC and a bit more money spent on heating the pool it would be epic.

Positive experience: Yoga is great( Elle) and the staff are friendly, however, it’s outdated decor and facilities are a little off putting.

Positive experience: This leisure centre is in jeopardy of closing, due to lack of funding by the council. Funding needs to be injected into the site, to ensure the facilities are maintained and safe for the community to use. It is vital that community sites like this are provided across the country, to offer affordable, accessible facilities for all levels of society. They promote a healthy physical and mental lifestyle and provide a hub for sports/health groups for people of all ages. The NHS is crippled and we need to support and maintain these facilities.

Fantastic experience: Good centre, we're staff take there job seriously(staff training was on this evening)

Positive experience: The upkeep of the pool is embarrassing. The shower heads are all broken and don't have any spray range. The poolside flooring is lifting up and frankly unsafe. The floor in the swimming changing rooms is dirty and not kept clean. The hall is a good size but the floor isn't maintained well and is always dusty and dirty. The staff are generally really nice to the customers. I expect the problems are relating to lack of investment and proper management training.

Negative experience: Staff not polite, selective (I was waiting for an urgent call and I had the phone in an airtight case, placed on the edge of the pool. I was asked to put it in the changing room, although a lady was filming from the window and a gentleman was filming from the edge of the pool). the ankle bracelet broke (18 karat gold, 7-8 grams), I asked for help to find it, and I was told that it is not possible, to leave a phone number, they will let me know if they find it... If I was not Romanian, but English, would they still behave the same way

Positive experience: Used the pool for a childs open session. Fairly basic changing rooms but does the job. Pool is a good size with a quirky shape and a few additional bits to keep the children interested (small slide, jacuzzi shaped seated bit etc). Cafe that over looks the pool.

Negative experience: Would avoid swimming here, the water was so cold it turned my 3 and 1 year old blue! Changing facilities are awful. Really poor outdated standards and hygiene. Also booked during the floats and fun session and it was so dull and boring. Waste of money and time travelling here really

Negative experience: The water was so cold . Loads of sand in the pool. Around edges of pool were lots of broken parts in the flooring very Sharpe for little fingers who were holding onto edge of the pool. The flooring around the pool broken. Everywhere looked dated and unclean.

Positive experience: Pool is great... changing room can get a bit mucky with outdoor shoes on but overall great experience.

Negative experience: I just moved to the area and I can’t believe that in such a expensive area I found a swimming pool with terrible standards. The whole thing is falling apart, it is so dirty and so old. Besides it is also very cold. Local authorities should encourage healthy habits by offering excellent facilities. A good example is aberdeen and it’s fantastic facilities. I have been in other leisure centres in Scotland and England and I have never seen such poor standards. I am completely shocked.

Positive experience: I just wish drivers of vehicles would conduct themselves more responsibly for the safety of the children , Its even noticable that most of the conduct is by parents or obviously customers or staff either of the school/Leisure complex during themselves in danger . Positive experience: A bit ran down, really need to be refurbished. changing room: the design of the doors is the worst I have ever seen, using folding benches in order to lock/unlock the doors, makes it very awkward to get in/out of these spaces.... also very dirty. Staff at reception and cafe were friendly. some of the lifeguards not so nice and the swimming teacher was very rude to my children. Slide not working. Sauna not working. Not great, so going further afield now to better pools when we can...

Positive experience: The swimming pool is clean and the floats sessions go down well with children. The pool is too cold for very young children. The gym is functional but too small. Exercise classes seem to be held in the actual gym itself rather than a separate studio which is rather strange.
