PureGym London Holloway Road

Negative experience: Is clean and well illuminated. Despite of being equipped to be safe and secured for self management the biggest downside of this one is not being open 24 hours like most puregyms and others in the area just a few meters away there are two gyms open 24/7. No glutes machine and the one intended for it is a spine damage hazard for beginners. Due to the limited hours can get very busy and you have to wait to use some machines. They have more cardio machines than resistance or free weights.

Positive experience: A decently equipped gym with a somewhat extensive selection of equipment. The main issue is the opening times, it should be open from 6am or ideally 24 hours. Because it is not, more people tend to go after work and the gym gets very busy after 5pm. Neighbouring PureGyms e.g. Finsbury, Camden and Kentish Town don’t have this issue and are open 24/7, so it’s a real shame that this one does not.

Positive experience: Decent facilities Went one off as a guest

Positive experience: PureGym Holloway is a solid gym that has everything you need for a good workout. It offers decent value for money and the location is convenient being close to a busy high street. The gym itself is well-equipped and when I go it is usually not too busy although it can get crowded at times. The main downside is that it is not open 24 hours like other PureGyms which can be a bit inconvenient depending on your schedule. The opening and closing times could also be a bit more flexible as they don't always fit with my preferred workout hours. Overall, it is a decent gym but I would definitely appreciate it more if it were 24 hours.

Positive experience: Good size, enough equipment even when busy

Positive experience: Okay if you’re going during the day or at certain times on the weekend. Anytime in the evenings, especially between 4-9pm is absolutely awful. It is way too small and does not have enough equipment for the number of people going to the gym. You’ll have to wait 20 minutes for any benches or squat racks. If you’re in between the 2 choose Finsbury over Holloway.

Positive experience: It's cheap. Could improve with a few more machines of the most popular exercises. I also don't get why it isn't available 24 /7. Still probably the best deal in London

Positive experience: Never any tissues or spray bottle. Pretty sure the aircon needs servicing and class areas and weights need a clean. Has a super high turnover of staff and managers.

Positive experience: It's a shame that a gym this size doesn't have a glute machine. I have to waste time setting up the machine to do the exercise. This makes me extremely irritated.

Positive experience: The gym is a good size, has natural light and has nice equipment but has one major problem, it opens at 9am at the weekend, which always creates a bottleneck of people and is clearly not good enough. Some other PureGyms across residential areas in London are open 24 hours every day, including Finsbury Park. There is a clear customer demand for better opening times and this can be an easy fix.

Positive experience: Good gym… easygoing and a good mix of beginners, moderates and gym bunnies! I’ve given it 3 stars as it only opens at 09:00 on a sat / Sunday… why?… it’s insane!… at 09:00 there is a bottle neck of people all jumping to get in Why not open at 07:00, like it does during the week?…. It’s ridiculous … the Pure Gym in Finsbury Park is open 24 hrs a day! I’ve noticed a response Pure Gym made re: opening hours and restrictive local regulations… the next door Sainsburys opens from 07:00 on a weekend, so why can’t this Pure Gym?

Positive experience: Nice space (with natural daylight!) however the weight machines are not maintained, some are rusty or losing parts.

Negative experience: I booked a get started class with Claudia but nobody showed up.

Negative experience: Went there with low expectations as I've been a PureGym member before, but I couldn't even get a tour... Waited ~30min and no one came at 4.30-5pm (staffed hours) despite ringing the button multiple times. That lack of service says a lot about this location's management already

Negative experience: SERIOUS PERSONAL SAFETY THREAT. Do not attend this gym. The issue has required police prosecution. I was threatened to be stabbed by another member this morning and was appalled by how the staff handled the situation. The individual continually insulted me, urged me to fight him outside, and threatened to stab me in the changing rooms or outside. Particularly if he ended up losing his membership. The initial trigger was him thinking that I was being condescending towards him. The on-floor staff - who I was later told have no training in conflict management - refused to address the violent individual, despite him screaming and behaving in a clearly belligerent manner. They only addressed me, and implied that I had contributed to this issue. As witnesses and any footage will show, I was nothing but calm and measured throughout. Nevertheless, I was asked to leave the situation while the violent individual was allowed to finish his workout and has retained his membership. I must repeat: this was not just a heated argument, but a stabbing threat in London. No one was interested in taking this seriously for me, and they won't do so for you. The staff also informed me that their CCTV may not reach the respective area of the gym. And that the CCTV may not be available as the internet was down. I am shocked at how lightly PureGym consider a stabbing threat on their premises. I'm committed to chasing this case down until some consequences are faced. In the mean time, do not attend this gym. For your own personal safety concerns.

Fantastic experience: Ivan is highly recommended for anyone seeking genuine guidance at the gym. He shows true care and support. ⭐️ Sadly, the other PTs are less approachable and only focussed on helping potential clients.

Positive experience: Not open 24 hours. Mens toilets are always dirty, anti-bacterial spray and paper towels not always stocked up. Too many phone scrollers and groups doing nothing but occupying space and chatting like its a social club. People leave equipment everywhere and dont rerack equipment. But the above concerns should be expected in a ghetto gym. Want better?, do better.

Fantastic experience: A great gym for a good price. The gym spans across 2 floors. There are more than 15 treadmill machines, 6 plus cycling machines, a weights area and another space for multi machines. They have one cycling and another classes studio. They have 2-3 rowing machines as well. The gym is well maintained with friendly staff. Kai, Beatrice, Nia, Kevin all great staff and keeps the place in order too! They do great classes and are very inclusive as well. The gym is a mix of beginners to experts but never felt overwhelmed as a beginner myself. Very comfortable gym. Has lockers and shower room as well which are quite big and always found an empty one even during peak. Would recommend as a no nonsense gym and if you're not looking for something fancy. Ps they have Zumba, dance and other special classes for 4 pounds.

Positive experience: An ok budget gym.

Positive experience: When the gym opens at 7am it looks like a bomb was let off, equipment thrown about all over the place some days. There is no enforcement of the rules (such as putting things away after yourself and wiping equipment) and there are never any cleaning products available, like, ever. they have one of those spray stations where there are four nozzles and inside the station are meant to be large bottles of detergent connected to the spray nozzles but after it was first installed, its never ever been refilled.

Negative experience: Used the seasonal free 3 day pass as looking for a gym in the area and knew on my first visit this wouldn’t be it. The weights feel lighter on both freeweights and machines and I lost count how many buckets are scattered around due to leaks. There’s a culture of occupying space to sit scrolling social media amongst the members and the female changing room stank horrendously upon arrival due to someone opening their bowels which lingered until after my workout. Can’t imagine having to shower in that. Would’ve thought there’d be an extractor fan or something to manage that kind of thing. Considering this site was refurbished within the last 2 years, I was expecting much better maintenance of building and equipment. Just disappointing really. 2 stars are for the spot on branding. Pure have really got that on lock, but otherwise…. Nah.

Positive experience: Unfortunately doesn't always feel the cleanest and the cleaning stations are almost always empty with no cleaning spray. There has also been a leak downstairs for the past few months and just isn't being fixed. The music and ads are very irritating.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with a very friendly staff. I highly recommend working with the personal trainers to make more gains and progress whatever your finess level is. I have been working with Kevin for almost a year and I have learned so much, I got stronger and healthier. He can adapt your program to your goals even if they evolve. The gym was an intimidating place for me. Thanks to Kevin, the friendly atmosphere of Puregym Holloway, and the staff, I love going there for the machines, the classes and the inspiring vibe. The manager is great and values the relationship with the clients by listening to their feedback. It is a great investment!

Positive experience: Very close to home and quite big gym. Missing a few cleaning stations though

Negative experience: Been coming to this gym for years because of the location convenience. Don’t believe the photos you see because they were taken when the gym was newly opened and they are enhanced anyway. The machines needs replacing or at least maintained. They are stiff and rusty they need to be greased up and the leather on seats etc need repairing. I’ve sent emails several times but got ignored. The machines I am talking about are mostly on top floor the ground floor is immaculate. Another problem is the shower area it stinks big time. However, staff members are very friendly. I would appreciate if they put the music just a bit down because I can’t hear my own music.

Negative experience: Upstairs smells like an ash tray. Not what I want from a gym

Positive experience: Decent enough gym however female changing rooms always smell because people leave things in the lockers for days on end which contributes to a constant smell. This is something that is not regulated enough, if at all, and should really be enforced vigilantly because it elicits such poor hygiene

Positive experience: Variety of equipment. Only one bench press. Often leaks from the ceiling when raining.

Positive experience: It is well run but sometimes the music is so loud it is painful and distracting. I dont want to shout with my PT. I wish management would keep the music volume low at all times. The only people I see who want loud music are the staff.

Positive experience: An average PureGym. The equipment is what you’d expect it to be and it’s never too busy, however, the layout is awkward and it closes very early.

Positive experience: It’s good, however, I wish they’d turn down the music. Mostly everyone has headphones so we really don’t need the music at such a loud volume.

Positive experience: Nice Gym, but needs somewhere to lock up bikes! Encourage people to cycle to the gym!

Fantastic experience: Clean and spacious, I just started at this gym but looks great and despite the fact there were plenty users today it didn't feel crowded at all.

Negative experience: This gym was in an absolute state. It was smelly. Music was obnoxiously loud, and the ceiling was in absolute disrepair in the weights area. Water dripping everywhere, they had a bucket out, that was half full of water from the drip. I cut my routine short and went home. In fairness it was my first time visiting this puregym so it may have been a one off.

Positive experience: I've been going to this Puregym for more than a year. The gym itself is quite large and spans two floors, with plenty of cardio machines, a dedicated stretching space, a large set of free weights, lots of machines, 6 squat racks, a spin area and a workout studio. The gym is clean and, at least in the mornings when I go, not too busy, so there's always more than enough space and equipment for a solid workout. The monthly fee is also quite reasonable and makes the gym good value for money. The 7:00 am opening time weekday mornings is a bit late compared to other gyms, but the adjacent residential building means they can't open any earlier. My only complaints are: (1) it could use another bench press - there's only one right now and it's frequently busy; (2) A plate-loaded incline row machine would be great; (3) it needs more morning HIIT/cardio classes.Currently the earliest class on Mondays is at 8:15, and there are no classes whatsoever on Friday morning. The gym also has some great PTs. Back in March I asked Kevin Boateng to help get me in shape for my wedding in August. Kevin's previous bodybuilding and powerlifting experience meant that he definitely knew his stuff! He determined my goals and my time constraints and set me up with a training schedule and nutrition plan. After an intense initial week of three sessions that got the ball rolling, weekly training sessions kept me on schedule and slowly modified the plan from bulking up early on to cutting down as the wedding approached so that I was in great shape when the big day arrived! During the cutting down phase I also received some great boxing training from Philip Coen that made the cardio much more fun. Finally, I regularly attend Kai Cooke's circuits classes on Tuesday for an excellent full-body high-intensity workout. All in all, a good, spacious, fully equipped gym with some great PTs.

Positive experience: This is a great gym and it has everything you'd need in terms of equipment. It can get quite busy at peak times. The one downside and reason why I'm only giving 4 stars are the opening hours. During the week it's 7am and on the weekend 9am. There's often a queue outside already especially on the weekend and personally I'd love the option to get my workout in early.

Fantastic experience: The best PureGym in London, hands down! Great space, spread out over 2 levels, lots of equipment. Always super clean unlike some of the other PureGyms I've used. Trainers/staff are always helpful with a smile on their face. Lots of classes to choose from. Generally a great vibe to this gym! I don't even live in the area anymore but I go out of my way to go there!

Positive experience: Equipment is decent, but the smells aren't great - women's changing rooms always smell like there's a drainage issue at all times of the day and the free weights section is poorly ventilated so smells heavily of sweat during peak times. Aircon I think is worse upstairs as it's always rather warm. It's a fairly small gym in comparison to other PureGyms, but as I said alright for equipment. Wish they would sort out ventilation issue. Once the free weights section also smelled of drainage/toilet and there was a leak from the ceiling so that might have been why.

Fantastic experience: Now that Finsbury Park PureGym is being refurbished, I started coming here and I'm glad I did. The extra 20min walk is definitely worth it as this gym has so far did not disappoint me on any occasion. It's much bigger than the Finsbury one. Also cleaner and better organised. The staff here keep the equipment in order after those who don't care. So far even in the peak times I always get to do my workout, which is almost impossible in Finsbury. I also had a question about the app and one of the staff members was very friendly and helpful, thank you.

Fantastic experience: Perfect gym to training whit may diferent area, they have to a small area where you can park outside, manager is very good and you can train whit him to and along of diferent PT on same gym, this gym was renewed near a year ago is look bran new gym.

Fantastic experience: Been to a few gyms, this one is by far one of the better ones, loads of equipment to use for a variety of exercises, friendly staff and it's always clean plus the price is good aswell for the quality you get, 100 percent would recommend!

Fantastic experience: Friendly, clean, great classes, special mention for Tenzin, all of her classes are great from Bodytone to Yoga, she explains everything brilliantly.

Negative experience: Awful gym, most of the equipment looks very old and the "refurbishment" didn't do much. Think they just took used equipment from other Puregyms and put it here. Staff never say hi or bye and don't even know your name. I guess that's what you expect when joining a Puregym. The Opening hours are also very poor, opens too late and closes too early. There are better gyms in the area and some of them are open for much longer. Would definitely recommend looking at the other gyms before deciding on this one.

Fantastic experience: I switched from this gym before it was refurbished, they did an amazing job, new equipments & great extras and loads of space.

Negative experience: I was forced to leave the gym before closing hours and was met with extremely violent and aggressive behaviour by a staff member. He also removed the weight stack pin in the middle of the set, which caused a shoulder injury. I have filed a police report which I will make public in due course.

Positive experience: Great gym and beautiful community to improve maybe add another bench area as I always find myself waiting but overall fantastic gym

Fantastic experience: It's local to where I live, gym equipment is nice. There is plenty of space where you can relax and have your own workout. As compared to other pure gym this gym is a bit small but I like the equipment. Staff are really helpful but not always there.

Negative experience: Lovely open space and slightly different equipment to other PGs. Downside is the staff. I was verbally abused when asking one bloke to voice down or going to finish his call somewhere else to not to interupt our session. That respect what you hear in tannoys constantly is false!

Positive experience: Great gym, but the opening times on the weekend need to change. Loads of people try and get a session in as early as possible and the gym only opens at 9. Every time I come here there are always loads of us waiting outside to use the gym. And on a day like today, they didn’t open on time.

Positive experience: PureGym Holloway is an excellent gym, objectively better than 3 other close gyms I've used. Clean equipment, spacious, changing rooms are checked regularly and importantly, the manager is friendly, efficient and on top of things. Not true for some other staff but it's a gym. Top value.

Fantastic experience: Great facilities. The classes are free with all memberships and very easy to book, with lots to choose from at convenient times before, during and after work. Everyone is welcoming and all age groups can feel comfortable (I am very much at the older end). In the working from home era, I’ve found it a great way to get out, get some varied exercise and to break up the day.

Sadly I had been blocked with no personal reference to me about this issue. I've now found another gym offering identical services for half the price.

Negative experience: I came by the gym in order to have a gym tour but they refuse to me to enter in. After a long time that I wait I ask a customer if he can tell any of the personal trainers to open the door and guid me into the gym. After some minutes the costumer came back and told me that the PT couldn’t service me. P.S: pure gym has an orange button which is for calling the stuff for the gym tours. (I ring it 3 times in 20 minutes that I Wes there) P.S 2: Thursday late afternoon

Fantastic experience: I have been going to PureGym for a few years now and I am very happy with it. The gym is spacious, clean and well-equipped with a variety of machines, weights and classes. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional, and the trainers are knowledgeable and motivating. I love the flexibility of the membership, which allows me to access any of the [PureGym] locations across the country. The price is also very reasonable for the quality of service and facilities. I would highly recommend [PureGym] to anyone looking for a great gym experience.

Positive experience: Banging gym compared to other puregym’s, has soo much more equipment and the gym looks clean and tidy

Fantastic experience: I recently joined the gym again after a very long break. I was hesitant to start up again as getting back to the gym has never been so easy for me (due to working in the construction industry and my personal lifestyle). PureGym being open 24hrs (certain branches, not all) has made it an easy option for me to choose them. I like the fact that some branches have massage chairs and also do sports water for their members. I have the higher tier membership which gives me the option to jump around branches to see which one suits me for what I do and what times I go too. This is not my home branch, but I find it less busy than my home branch at the times I come here, so I use this like my home branch.

Positive experience: Good local gym, usually not too crowded. The showers aren't the most clean I've ever seen.

Negative experience: Awful gym. Staff is useless. Low monthly membership means the place is packed all the time, with the worst kind of clientele.

Positive experience: It's alright! Busy as hell sometimes but you can usually get what you want done. They have like 40 treadmills and only one weight area for some reason so everyone's always waiting for the bench press.

Negative experience: Visited this Gym for the first time the other day, very basic equipment, some machines are very run down and the place is in dire need of a refresh. No one re-racks their weights in the free weights area so you end up hunting down plates and dumbbells that all over the place. Overall basic but good for a quick workout. P.S. Avoid the workout area near the TRX frame, the mats stink of dried stale sweat

Fantastic experience: I really like this gym; all on one level but separated by sensible rooms. Much better space than other pure gyms I’ve used in London and has the added benefits of the fruit water machine and massage for plus members! :-)

Positive experience: This is the first time I have visited this branch and first off, it was not easy to find the women's changing room, as there were no signs. Since the gym is spread over several floors, it would have been good to have a floor plan to better be able to navigate. The changing rooms were reasonably clean, considering I came at 8pm, but the water in the showers took a long time to warm up and never really got hot. The overall air quality in the gym was pretty poor, maybe the air con was turned off. The equipment is a bit run down, but perfectly fine. Didn't see any members of staff, but I know that some gyms are unmanned for shorter periods of time some times, so it didn't bother me. It was fine for a short training session, but I will probably make the slightly longer journey to my home gym in the future

Negative experience: Dust Everywhere. I have asthma and started coughing within 5 mins walking into the gym. I will not be coming back.

Negative experience: It's a gym. Not a lot of space.

Positive experience: I will give this an honest review, parking within the area is very good, there is always parking around the area. Apart From between 10 am to 12pm. Staff is ok, but as previous reviews have stated, it is in need of more equipment for a gym like this you can’t expect to only have one bench press further to this the water fountain where the machines are located 1st floor is always broken. In need of a better leg press machine, vending machine is decent, wifi is ok, cardio area is also good. Big changing room which is good, in need of two lat down machines instead of one. All in all Good value for money just a few adjustments needs to be made
