Negative experience: I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with your gym services and the handling of my membership cancellation request. Despite my multiple attempts to cancel my membership, citing valid reasons such as a medical certificate from my GP and a change in residence, I have not received a satisfactory resolution. Unfortunately, it seems my concerns have not been taken seriously. The issues I experienced with the gym include poor cleanliness, consistently broken equipment, limited space, and the lack of hygienic facilities for women. During my trial, I was assisted by the branch manager, Treasure Baka, who signed me up on the spot. I was clearly informed that I could cancel my membership at any time without notice and even pause it if necessary. At no point was I made aware that I would be committed to a 12-month contract. I have not used the gym for over three months and have made repeated efforts to cancel the membership due to the above issues. However, they are still trying to charge me for services that I neither use nor am satisfied with. I would appreciate immediate action to cancel my membership, as continuing to charge me for a service I am unhappy with is unacceptable. I trust this matter will be handled promptly and professionally. I feel I've been lied, ignored, disrespected.

Fantastic experience: Really nice community feel. If you’re intimidated by going to the gym then this is the place to go, all the staff will make you feel really welcome and comfortable. Gym manager is really good at welcoming new people and always happy to help. Can get busy at peak times but aren’t all gyms busy during these hours? Good selection of machines and free weights and plenty of cardio machines to use. Overall a great gym for any age group.

Hi Poyeh, we’re sorry the facilities weren’t up to your expectations. Looking at our records the last time you came to the club was 3 months ago. We have employed new cleaners and increased the hours per day since then as we also weren’t happy with the standards. The new cleaners are doing a great job and we’ve received positive feedback regarding them. Regarding how busy the gym is, this varies greatly depending on the time of day. We are open 24/7. Peak times do get very busy, but this is the case in most gyms. On two of your visits our records show there were 15-20 people in the club. We have over 60 exercise stations available.
Positive experience: Considering there are other gyms and epsom is literally an 8 minute train ride I have no idea why this gym costs as much as it does
Negative experience: Was planning to join but wanted to check it out first. They been offering free day pass online, I filled the form but nobody got in touch to arrange it as promised. Instead been sending spam sms messages trying me to join. Went with other gym instead.

Positive experience: Overall staff are friendly and helpful! Unfortunately due to the gym being relatively small if you go during the busier hours it’s packed, on a few occasions I have walked back out or not been able to park. A lot of teens go and hog a lot of the machines in small groups. If you go earlier in the mornings you can have more availability for machines etc and find the experience more enjoyable and get your workouts in.
Negative experience: The worst gym I ever went to. Regarding my last opinion, which was replied with busy time period of the year, I have to disagree with that. No matter which month or what time you go, 10am, 6, 8, 9pm it was permanently overcrowded. Not sure how, if at all, they calculate their capacity, probably taking the mean from entire 24hrs, when most people are asleep which allows to keep filling the already overcrowded gym with new members. No bench racks, you got people benching in the squat racks, makes you wait forever for your squats. The bathrooms are filthy, there is dust and dirt all over the floors, as if it was not so frequently cleaned as needed. The worst part of all is atrocious customer service mentioned by others as well. At the gym they are all nice and friendly, but God forbid you wish to cancel your membership after completing your contracted time. That was the rudest call I ever experienced. Apart from that, the process took very long time. Seriously, don't bother with them, go to Nuffield or Leisure Centre.
Negative experience: I've trained here 3 times (AF member elsewhere). It's small and if you need to train at peak times, it's really gonna be difficult for you unless you train calisthenics like me, where rigs or benches aren't needed. Equipment on offer is good. However, the reason for this poor review is because of the concerning treatment given to a young female relative in respect of her 'free' day trial pass. She was very sceptical at having to provide bank details for something advertised as free but she went ahead knowing full well if she didn't wish to proceed, there would be no charge. However, at the end of her trial session, the manager asked her into his office, not saying why and not picking up on her hesitancy to join him. Getting her to sit down, he then proceeded to apply real pressure to her to sign up. He made her feel extremely uncomfortable, having got her in his office. She told him more than once that she would like to think about it, just being polite really. She hated the experience and the gym and actually had no intention of joining. She left without joining or signing anything. Then she found the membership payments had been taken from her bank. To make it worse, the manager did not return calls. After several days, it was only by using her initiative and contacting the owner himself, that her money was eventually refunded. High pressure tactics, making women feel uncomfortable and the dishonest financial dealings might make you want to think about joining here. No apology received and I'm guessing the Manager won't receive a reprimand for his behaviour (read the reviews to see this is clearly how they roll). I know what I think of him but I'm not saying it here. 1 Star is too generous
Fantastic experience: When I started here I was so nervous being a bigger woman but the manager was very helpful. A young man called josh showed me around and helped me get to know the equipment, he was a very polite member of the team. I am now on my way to that summer 2024 body. Thank you guys such a good atmosphere and so welcoming too again I can’t thank you enough.

Negative experience: Let me start off by saying I was a regular at this club for over a year. I went 6-7 times a week for over 12 months and in that time got to know the staff and other members of the gym. The gym itself has high quality equipment however small in numbers. If you go after work between 4:30-6:30PM you're wasting your time but any other time and you should be good to get what equipment you're after. The manager, Treasure Baka, was incredibly warm, welcoming, inviting and fun to be around while I was a member there. He consistently goes out of his way to talk to members and make them feel welcomed and get to know them. Unfortunately, the second you mention that you are moving over 70 miles away for work is the exact moment that friendship you built with him day in day out for months just completely erodes. I told him in 1.5 months I will be moving so I would like to cancel my membership so that it expires at the completion of that second month (so I was still willing to pay him for that unused 0.5 months due to my original loyalty and like of the team at this gym). He says no problem he will sort that out for me. For the 1.5 months that I still lifted there every day he would barely say a word to me and focused more of his time on the members who were still paying and would continue to pay for the foreseeable future. Although I wasn't particularly happy about this and felt unwelcome I just decided to put my head down and workout for myself. Let me add that I repeatedly told him throughout this process that I want to make sure my membership is cancelled by x date and he said no problem he would handle it. Fast forward now to me living 70 miles away and 2 weeks into my job I get a notification from my banking app saying that I am paying £39.95 for my Anytime Fitness Leatherhead Membership. I call up Treasure and ask him what is going on with it and he proceeds to gaslight me and say you never put in the request online to cancel it when he never once stated to do that. I told him I would just contact my bank to dispute a statement so I would get that money back. He then proceeded to try and find ways to get me to not do that and I then suggested that since my parents still live local to the gym that when I come back on weekends or holidays I could just come by and workout. He agreed and that was that. I came in a total of 3 times throughout that span and for two of those times paid £10 as a courtesy for letting me workout there. On the 4th time I go he is incredibly unwelcoming and looks annoyed to see me. He tells me to go into his office and when I state that I paid £10 to workout yesterday he tells me I should be paying £10 for a day pass each time forgetting the prior agreement we had (Where i willingly paid an extra £39.95 to not dispute the payment without getting any benefit from it). When I bring up the prior agreement he says well you have already used it up you've come in here a couple times. I state that well you can look at my history and know that I come in 6-7 times a week and the fact I paid for a month and only got 3 sessions in in total, that doesn't come close to the value for money I paid, not to mention the additional £20 I gave for 2 of those 3 gym sessions!! He allowed me to workout the day of the above dispute but in the most unwelcoming, irritated way possible so I just told him I wouldn't workout because I didn't feel welcomed at all. Overall this gym does the job if if you can workout away from the hours of 4:30-6:30PM. I believe it to be overpriced at a now £42.95 per month and believe you could find another gym in the area to be a better bang for your buck. Also be prepared for the manager, Treasure Baka, to be your best friend upon joining but your worst nightmare upon leaving. I will be contacting my bank and Anytime Fitness regarding the month where I was overcharged. - Michael

Fantastic experience: The personal trainer at the gym, Kane of Ensure Physique has been incredibly helpful in my progression with his knowledge and overall coaching style. Highly recommend for those wanting to take their training seriously and learn more whilst doing so.
Negative experience: Ended up revoking membership. Horrendous loud music played from a tinny boombox by a member of staff in the mornings. Gym became smelly and dirty. A lot crammed in to a small space. Toilets filthy.
Positive experience: Quite small and with a limited range of equipment. Oversubscribed, cramped and busy, and not the friendly, easygoing crowd I'm used to at my regular gym.
Negative experience: Last night...over crowded and lack of space... not much room to stretch...lack of equipment...toilets not clean...so could not stay long...

If you do notice any issues with cleanliness, please mention this to the staff on duty, they will attend to any issues straight away. They do conduct checks of the bathrooms. Negative experience: Tiny gym, not many machines, no lockable lockers to keep your possessions safe like I was told there was when shown around the gym, and whenever you go there is no free machines or space to workout, even if you go during the day on a weekday. I signed up for a 6 month contract and have since paid 8 months worth for this place. I have requested to cancel my membership and asked for a refund twice but have had no response from them even though they said they reply within 24-48 hours. Do not recommend this place to anyone, the place is dirty and full of creepy guys who just stare at you. Uncomfortable and doesn’t feel safe. Have expressed this to staff in an email but got a rude / dismissive reply, only telling me I can freeze my membership if I want. Useless.
Hi Lydia, We're sorry you weren't happy with the facilities. in answer to your comments: The gym has always been the size it is, the general feedback from members is it's very well equipped and we are always looking to add new equipment and improve our members experiences. We have lockable lockers next to the coat rack, these are free for members to use. Like most gyms we are busy during peak times of 4pm-8pm, however our usage stats show that outside these times there's typically between 4-10 people in the club. We have more than 60 pieces of gym equipment and available workout stations. Apologies that your email wasn't responded to we will look into this. If you wish to cancel your membership this can be done online and will happen automatically once the application is submitted. We have new management in place at the gym, if there are any issues that give rise to concern regarding other members behaviour, we will take this seriously and seek to address it straight away. If anyone is found to have breached our code of conduct we will not hesitate to have them banned from the club. The club is cleaned daily and continuously checked by our staff whilst they are on duty, again we apologise if this wasn't the case during one of your visits.

Negative experience: Pros :Firstly I need to say that Treasure who runs this gym is an asset and very helpful and encouraging Cons : Stretch section dominated by boxing so no space Equipment has become dirty and covered in dust and body sweat recently .members rarely wipe down equipment and there are now no cleaners Toilet unisex dirty Who ever owns française does not appear to care about what a member thinks and hides behind small print of contract so cannot give notice to leave based on the fact it is dirty , smells and dosnt have the area I joined with ( my fault should have read You don’t have to play music that loud it’s not a night club. I am now held into a contract till June and is I use the club I will be doing a lot of hand washing . Main staff member is the only reason it is bearable

We do still have cleaners at the club and will raise your points regarding the cleaning standards with them. We will also ask the team to reinforce expectations of members to wipe down equipment after use. The boxing bag has always been in the functional fitness area along with the other equipment. Regarding the music, this should be being played at a background level. This can vary depending on how busy the club is. We will ask staff to monitor this more closely. There are different membership options which include a rolling one month option, 6 month option and 12 month option. These decrease in price with the longer period you opt for. The membership you chose was the 12 month one. The membership agreements are drawn up centrally by Anytime Fitness UK. We hope we can address your concerns and we do appreciate your feedback.

Negative experience: Impossible to cancel membership, phoned many times and asked manager to phone back which hasn’t happened. Staff uninformed about membership cancellation and now keep getting emails and texts that I am in arrears.

This keeps a record of the process and is automated as long as your account is in good standing. We can see from our call data records that we have tried to contact you twice since your last call to us. Negative experience: Wasting time and money. Not recommended to anyone . Leatherhead leisure Center is lots of better machines and so many other facilities and anytime can cancel contract with one month notice .

Negative experience: I had only used this gym for around 6 months, due to long covid and I had it frozen. Then I relocated so I never used it as not my local gym, of course I had a contract so I had to pay. I paid for a gym I wasn’t using and back in June I asked to cancel it, however as stated on my account my contract run out in September and monthly payment still came out in September, they failed to tell me that the contract was rolling, and decided to take money out of my account without my prior knowledge or consent. I got a rather rude email when I asked why money was coming out of my account and she said oh “you never told us you wanted to cancel…” Appalling customer service. Furthermore to this they was yes a months notice and wanted a further payment the following month. Which I have now paid, after being harassed by them for payments for a gym membership that ended in September. A con at best. I do not recommend this anytime fitness in particular for the price you pay monthly it is tiny.
Sorry to hear you’ve not had a good experience. We will look into the points you’ve raised for you. All of our memberships are on a rolling contract basis and your consent was given at the point of joining when you signed your membership agreement. We can provide you another copy of this if you would like us to? Our memberships have different minimum commitment periods ranging from one month to 12 months, the membership you chose was a minimum 12 month commitment period. Relocation is a reason we could terminate a membership whilst in your commitment period. There are no notes on our system that suggest this was mentioned to us. Our phone calls are recorded and our emails are stored, if you mentioned this to anyone please let us know and we can look into it for you. We processed your cancellation request upon your request and sent a confirmation email that your final billing date would be the 1st October. In this email it advises that cancelling your payment method prior to the final payment being made will prevent the cancellation going through correctly. We are a locally owned business, but operate under the Anytime Fitness franchise. As a global gym franchise we have to use their membership agreement structure.

Negative experience: Overall the facility is what you would expect from a gym. Nice new equipment laid out in a nice pattern around the floor. The space is nicely cooled via the air conditioning. Friendly staff. Due to the relatively small space if you attend at any normal hour as a working person you are likely to have considerable wait times for specific machines or simply forgo using it on one attendance. Parking seems fit for the facilities needs but could sometimes be a little tight. I would not deem the overall experience as value for money but only note its simply the cheapest in the area. If a Puregym popped up in the area you'd have a much better experience for a lot cheaper. Sadly they seem to use a very dated, customer unfriendly contract system which of course you are required to sign and it has various money grabbing tactics in there. Edit: I have lowered my rating from 2 to 1. This is due to their horrible harassment tactics. They spam text messages and emails at 1:30 in the morning.

Fantastic experience: I'm actually a member of another anytime fitness gym that I visit regularly. However I tend to drive over to Leatherhead or via Leatherhead now and again so I've been using this gym for a while. Compared to other AnytimeFitness gyms it's one of the smaller ones. This is quite nice as it's got a friendly feel to it. The equipment is up to date with Life Fitness equipment that sync's with various devices and watches etc. It's quite useful as you can jump onto a cardio machine, log in via QR code with your phone and your settings are all there together with workouts. I usually don't have much time when I use this gym so every minute saved pressing buttons and tapping information into screens leaves more time to work out - very good. The weights area has plenty of free weights together with pressing, pulling and lifting machines to help you reach your Mr/Ms Universe Physique. There's a few small shower rooms (i.e. shower behind a door type) and a couple of unisex WC's in a recessed lobby type area at the back of the gym where you can leave your bag. There is no male/female changing or locker room - much like most AnytimeFitness gyms. There's a large mirror with a few hair driers of you need them (my thinning wisps of hair dry naturally from the walk out of the shower to the large large bench in front of the mirror in the recessed area) If you know the brand you will know AnytimeFitness is focussed on your workout rather than luxury changing suites with spa's and sauna's. The changing/shower/drying/bag storage areas are kept to a minimalist theme. Think more functional than luxury. I have found this tends to attract people to the gym that actually want to exercise and not waste time scrolling Instagram or sending snapchats. Often giving you a bit of encouragement to push you on your last rep while they wait for a piece of equipment. If you really can't live without seeing a smiling receptionist that hands you a towel and feel the need to have an espresso macchiato after your workout while reading Surrey Life in a gym coffee shop then look elsewhere. If you just need a gym to access 24/7 without the unnecessary frills but really good equipment this could be for you.
