Our comment from FitFit UK about Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre:

Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre in London is a community-oriented fitness and well-being facility that offers a variety of amenities, including a spacious gym, a large 25m swimming pool, and various sports courts. Many users appreciate the friendly and professional staff, with particular mentions of Russel and Kyle for their helpfulness.

Highlights of the centre include:

  • Good facilities: A well-equipped gym and a clean pool area.
  • Affordable pricing: With discounts and concessions available, the centre provides economical options for members.
  • Child-friendly options: The newly launched soft play area has received positive feedback for its cleanliness and design.
  • Community feel: A welcoming environment that fosters respect and understanding among diverse users.

However, some areas require attention:

  • Cleanliness issues: Several users have reported that the changing rooms and pool area are not consistently clean.
  • Staffing concerns: There are complaints regarding the inconsistency in staff professionalism, with some indicating rudeness from certain employees.
  • Maintenance problems: Facilities like the sauna and some gym equipment suffer from operational issues that are often not addressed promptly.

Overall, while Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre boasts a lot of potential with good facilities and a personal touch from dedicated staff, it would greatly benefit from improvements in cleanliness and service consistency to enhance the customer experience.

Fantastic experience: Very nice

Fantastic experience: After really struggling to sign my daughters up online for beginners swimming lessons, I’ve just received first rate help and service from Russel on the front desk. It’s been exceptionally busy here so I’m really grateful Russel was able to help me out. Cheers bud

Fantastic experience: Good gym kinda gross but if you tell a staff member they'll insure it's cleanes

Gary Whittaker 10 months ago

Positive experience: Conflicted about my rating as it seems too high , yet a little low for the issue that I'm about to type , for me the stars must go to SOME of the staff and pool attendants , however , the pool attendants need to be more pro active in correcting swimmers in what lane to swim in , there are frustratingly slow swimmers in the medium lane which cause a backlog and cause people to cut their lane swim short , there is also a health and safety aspect to this ,I've raised the issue numerous times , nothing is ever done though I've been told it will , sadly its going to take an accident (and potential lawsuit) to sort this ongoing issue out

Victoria O. 10 months ago

Negative experience: Very dirty ladies changing rooms and water too cold in the main pool, unfortunately. The training pool is fine for learners but no way of learning to swim in the deeper (main) pool.

Greg Harris Meredith 10 months ago

Positive experience: Great gym. Only issue is when scanners don't work and I have to be let in by staff but then receive a no show email for the booked activity. They need to sort out their computer system. Everything else is good.

Annie 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: Great gym and location, right next door to the library I highly recommend it and it’s also good because they offer concessions making it more affordable.

Negative experience: I am a regular customer. My son likes this soft play however, the staff is awful. They are unpolite, unprofessional and very unkind. I approached the reception as I couldn't manage to book a slot on line, simply asking for availability. As I am not a member they simply ignored mean to speak with someone else or to do something else. When I complained about this attitude, i was told in a very unkind way" we have a lot of things to do, if you didn't book on line there is no space and that's it, we are busy and we do not have time to waste"....seriously? They should learn manners first before work with the public". There is much much better elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Clean reasonable priced leisure centre. Good 25m pool with a range of lanes during swim sessions.

Fantastic experience: A New Era of Soft Play Fun at Swiss Cottage. Wow! This new soft play arena is a game-changer. It's a world of difference from the old one they had. The space is huge, clean, and incredibly well-designed. The play equipment is fantastic, with something for everyone, even the little ones. The dedicated area for 0-2 year olds is a brilliant touch. There is a seating area for the parents with chairs and tables. And the buggy parking makes it very convenient. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun and safe outing for their kids.

Fantastic experience: Kyle was super helpful with amending my booking for swimming - thank you so much!

Negative experience: Booked here for my son's third birthday party. They just cancelled it by automated email due to "a scheduling change". As a social enterprise trumpeting how much they care about the local community, I hope they treat the pre-school children BETTER next time :(

bernardo trek 1 year ago

Negative experience: They abruptly cancelled my badmington booking on the day of the booking ( i booked one week in advance so they could have cancelled earlier) claiming they had booking system issue. Badmington was for my son and his friends. his party is dead. the Staff who called me was extremely aggressive. I recommend to avoid this center.

Negative experience: Good facility but the staff is very rude. The entrance gate was removed due to refurbishment. I was walking along the reception area and the staff shouted at me out of no where and accused me of intruding. Nonsense and rude. He could have explained nicely and marked the area clearly.

Fantastic experience: The water was warm and the staff were very helpful.

Jan Kočka 1 year ago

Negative experience: I went in for a swim. To start with the good the staff were really nice pleasant and helpful, but that's the only positive thing I can say. For the price I really would have expected a better experience, the pool water was the coldest I've experienced at an indoor pool (felt like an outdoor one) and the lanes feel very narrow. I'm not sure if it's that or just from the people in there but I've never been hit so many times during a swim. The place was clean enough but still smelt bad in places. But what really annoys me the most is the tokens for lockers. The only way to use a locker is to buy a single use token for 30p which isn't much but why is this not just included in the price, I cannot imagine there's anyone who doesn't need to use a locker. This is the only place I've seen with such a system, plus these are really only for 1 use/lock, if you want to get your towel or forgot your goggles or something you need to pay again. Plus the lockers are separated by gender so you can't even share one with a partner or friend.

Fantastic experience: A community oriented chain fitness and well-being centre. The staff are very understanding of individuals needs and circumstances while maintaining a safe environment for everyone. My 4yo has been doing swimming lessons over the past year at a time slot with a few other groups of different ages groups. Lots of different backgrounds and cultural expectations (given it's kids and swimming) and everyone is highly respectful of one another.

Negative experience: I am not happy about closing the gym just for women ,since when man and woman are not the same, I will cancel my membership if this carry-on ,I went to the gym today and I have been turndown because its only women time !!!! This is unfair women can come any time to the gym plus they have specific time for only themselves what's going on in this gym.

Negative experience: Main pool way too cold. Had to get out. Not good for kids. Changing rooms also dirty and main showers cold. Main receptiom staff rude and unhelpful

Guy 1 year ago

Negative experience: I've had a bad experience overall at this gym, including a couple of incidents of sexism from staff which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Thankfully another member of staff was quite supportive during the first instance in the pool area, but it still leaves a bad taste. The changing rooms are filthy and smelly. I've switched to another local gym (not even using the remaining membership period that I paid for) which is a welcoming environment to all, has a good atmosphere, is clean, and has better opening hours.

miles lee 1 year ago

Negative experience: Extremely disappointed with the customer service. Reserved a court 3 days in advance only to show up and have it cancelled 1.5 hours beforehand. No email notification, no call when it takes only a minute to do so. We pack up and leave the house for nothing, and to have the customer service tell us in a snarky way that the email “should’ve been sent to you.” WILL NOT BE BACK!!!

John Sullivan 1 year ago

Negative experience: What a joke the management is. I had a court booking and 1.5 hours before they cancelled it. They didn’t send any notice except an email stating I can a credit on my account. So your people got dressed and ready to play. Commuted there to find out nothing. When my daughter was visiting for one weekend from university. Maybe they shouldn’t double book? Or maybe they should pick up a phone and call when they do.

Positive experience: Machines are often broken but it's big enough you can usually get enough space to go what you need. Bathrooms are pretty grim.

Thayani Conaggin 1 year ago

Positive experience: Complete sports' centre and very pleasant to cycle to from work, it offers the club feeling. Only negative would be the gym can get really hot at times despite the air conditioning.

MonVenture's 1 year ago

Positive experience: Everything was great, another thing I didn’t understand when I was booking was, that I chose the option to book the court for one hour and the system said that all courts are fully booked, but when I chose the 40-minute option, it let me go through. Maybe they are making more money that way, but it seems unfair because I want to book the court for 2 hours and I have to pay more than I should.

Positive experience: Lovely pool, cool enough to train hard.

Vinod Bheel 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The gym has many different studios for classes, a large hall for different type of sports, and the gym floor is very large and spacious. They also have the Spa, with the steam rooms and sauna and if you want to get any other treatments. This has always been my home gym for ages. I feel like at home.

Vishal Jani 1 year ago

Negative experience: Good place but far too expensive especially to play Squash nearly £20 for 40 mins and the courts are worn out and in need of repair

Claudia Y 1 year ago

Negative experience: During my one year membership there, I encountered 2 rude staffs, one is white and another is brown, both short guys. They would tell you off in a rude way as if they have never learned how to speak in a polite manner. But all three female staffs are nice.

Negative experience: For a gym that charges £47-£60 the services they provide are sure below average. 1. The Hot water for showers doesn't work half the time. 2. The washrooms are never clean 3. The big lockers are all taken by the staff and never available for the customers 4. They have a new £3 charge if you miss a swimming booking even if you missed it cause of an emergency 5. One of the main doors have been shut for half a month now and they haven't done anything till now 6. The most common dumbbells from 10-20kg ones are only one pair and never available in the evening time 7. It really looks like gym doesn't care about their customers. I've been to gyms which charge £25-30 a month and provide a better service and better facilities I myself don't have a choice as this is the closest gym to me but if you have a choice then go for another gym which actually values its customers

Isabelle Baumann 1 year ago

Negative experience: Indescribably disgusting!!! The smell is like of dead animals and feet, could only stay 20 min as kids had to have a run at it. Was sneezing from the dust and weird smell. The 2 yr old hurt her foot on the grey mountain climb as plywood edges were exposed. £8.80 is the price to get in.

Mark Feerick 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I spend all day at this gym, and it's just a wonderful centre. Huge space and lots of equipment, even a nice coffee shop.

Michael H 1 year ago

Negative experience: Decent gym, great pool, but very deceptive membership. The 47 a month says 'all facilities in centre' yet that doesn't include the sauna/steam room. The spin classes are mediocre.

Reuben Martin 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great gym, great staff. Good facilities and never too busy for a session

Sarah 1 year ago

Negative experience: The smell in the toilets is so awful and sticks with you! The toilet bowl gets cleaned but nothing else and there’s years of dirt grime, extremely unhygienic. I think that’s why there’s so many flies in the cubicles. They need to do better

Matt 1 year ago

Positive experience: Reasonable facilities but not as cheap as would be expected from a council ran facility that's okay at best. Cleanliness is acceptable, as well as equipment, but on the basic side of things with a limited amount of machines i.e. no duplicates meaning you may find yourself waiting for a while.

Abdullah Al-Sultani 1 year ago

Negative experience: Overcrowded with less machines in the gym like one device. And two benches in the whole gym. Anything that gets out of order takes ages before getting fixed.

Nicole 1 year ago

Negative experience: The water in the swimming pool has been just FREEZING COLD recently. I had to cut my sessions short!

Nicolás Santos 1 year ago

Positive experience: The price for a membership is hard to beat. You get unlimited access to the gym, the pool, and some group classes. However, facilities are not the best in terms of cleanliness. The men's gym dressing room is usually quite dirty. The pool dressing room has a good policy of no shoes inside, but what is the point of it if groups 30+ schoolkids are going to enter with shoes anyway?

Rus Williamson 1 year ago

Negative experience: Swimming pool review - constantly overcrowded and understaffed. Lanes often closed due to not enough life guards on duty, staff training, or lessons. Swimmers all crammed into the same few lanes. Booking numbers should be limited or swimmers warned in advanced.

Jason Millar 1 year ago

Positive experience: This is a review only of the wet/pool facilities, but this is one of the better Betters. Clean, wide 25m pool with two slow, two medium and two fast lanes. The water is warmer than many other centres. Male pool changing rooms are spacious and clean thanks to the excellent no-shoes/overshoes policy, with a spacious, open changing area with cubicles, and open showers. Like all Camden centres, you need to buy a 30p token for the locker which is nonrefundable, which is greedy when you're paying £40-60 a month for facilities. It nets them an extra £62 a year if you go 4 times a week. Islington borough's £1 refundable system is much better. As the token is non-refundable, it makes sense to bring your towel and shower stuff poolside, so you can shower on the way back to the changing room without needing to re-open and re-lock your locker (which would be *another* 30p).

Daniel White 1 year ago

Negative experience: Run by very rude third-world countries' people, who stomp in front of you when it's your right of way, misdirect you, and behave like they own the place, this sport centre is simply filthy. The machines are filthy, the floors are filthy, the swimming-pool is filthy, and the changing-rooms are filthy. The cleaners are equipped with medieval methods 'to clean', like filthy mops, that move the dirt left and right but do not remove it. You are lucky not to get a disease or skin bugs when you exercise in here.

robert holtzhausen 1 year ago

Positive experience: Good Pool pity about high edge to ends of pool.makes Turin around difficult.. strange design...overall excellent pool..although Camden prices are more expensive than others

Aaron 1 year ago

Negative experience: I volunteer at this gym for a swimming club, and generally it is a very pleasant experience. The staff are really nice, and so is the pool, and I’ve been let into the gym once or twice before, and it’s a really nice gym. On the contrary, however, today, I was turned away by a man called Abu. A short fat guy with a beard. He was very rude and dismissive, and turned me away from the club because I was there too early (I come straight from school). As I am writing this review, I am sitting down where he told me to sit, like he’s one of my parents. I asked him why, and he just ignored me, and continued on with his conversation with his colleague. Horrible guy.

Valentina Carbone 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The most beautiful gym ever! I’ve been member since 2015 and I love this gym. It’s very spacious, 3 floors, all glass windows and there is an amazing pool with all glass windows so you basically can see outside the park and the beautiful threes. The gym has many different studios for classes, a large hall for different type of sports, and the gym floor is very large and spacious. They also have the Spa, with the steam rooms and sauna and if you want to get any other treatments. This has always been my home gym for ages. I feel like at home.

Fantastic experience: Been coming here for years. Great place, friendly staff and the equipment generally kept clean and in good working condition. It's a community gym - everyone is friendly and respectful. Some classes book out very quickly...

Ikram Casi 2 years ago

Negative experience: I had paid for an only woman “teaching” swimming session and as other women were undressed in the locker room, a group of men had walked in and there were no staff around causing confusion and frustration with the women, I had asked the women if this happens often in which they said yes to. Also, upon arrival I had double checked if I was going to be taught swimming which I was told yet. However, I had quickly realised there weren’t any teachers around when the session had started so I asked the lifeguard about it in which she told me this happens extremely often as people assume it’s a taught class due to the website stating it as an teaching swimming class. I do not know how to swim so I feel that I had wasted money to sit on the sidelines before I had decided to leave 5 minutes into the session.

Matt Mitchell 2 years ago

Negative experience: This place has gone down hill badly. The cafe used to be lovely and now it is a filthy space reserved for birthday parties. The toilets are falling apart, literally. Wall tiles are damaged, door frames are loose, flushes don't work. The place is revolting. I can't see how Better can even begin to think they can live up to their own name. Awful.

Fantastic experience: Russ really helped sort out my membership that just wasn’t being sorted out. He was really helpful, professional and sorted out the issue promptly. Thank you Russ

Peter Smith 2 years ago

Negative experience: The air conditioning in the gym is almost non existant (on a warm day it's like practising hot yoga, good if you like pouring with sweat), and they play awful radio with non stop advertising. Cancelled membership and joined one of the many other local centres. It's a shame because the room and equipment are good, but the air and music terrible.

Studio Anastasia 2 years ago

Negative experience: Womens toilets and changing rooms by the gym upstairs smell really bad! This has been ongoing for the past couple of weeks and still hasn’t changed?

Camille Curtis 2 years ago

Positive experience: The centre is overall not a bad place however focus need to be place on the Softplay areas since it’s for children. Understandably it’s hard to clean daily but it really need doing,I don’t know if I’m just unfortunate but when I visit there was children wearing shoe, parents in areas with there shoe on while babies and crawling on the mats which I believe shoe should not being worn on. The Softplay is also not supervised by a staff member which is another problem when it comes user using the area. My child jacket was stolen off her pushchair and when speaking to members of staff I was told there isn’t any cctv in the area and they can only fit out a form which would be logged and revisit it WHEN!!! As I stated the centre isn’t bad but loosing personal items and anyone can walk in and out without checks is unfair and unsafe worst when ppl are entering via fire exists. Yes a jacket was the only thing that was lost but it could have being more serious where a child walk out of the fire exist in a split second. Speaking to the DM he understood and believe that a member of staff should surpervise the area but it’s out of his control and only can follow the centre manager rules.. Being such a disappointment I won’t be using the centre Softplay or other facilities in the near future worst when I was told the centre was inadequately monitored by CCTV.

Ed Lewis 2 years ago

Negative experience: Sauna/steam always broken because they let the same group of boys back in to break it. I've seen women verbally abused for speaking up against this behavior. I won't be returning until this issue is resolved along with the other complaints made ad infinitum. Not happy

Positive experience: Not too bad. Could be cleaner and better smelling. The annoying thing it’s actually the adults SHOUTING in their phones. The staff is sooooo chilled and laid back, you can hardly find one if you need one.

Fantastic experience: Nice gym, outing area good, street market

threequarter london 2 years ago

Negative experience: It’s not clear on Google, but the gym is operated by the ‘BETTER’ company. Let me cook : •Way too hot in the gym as the AC has been broken for almost 2 months. It’s taken 30+ people (probably more) to cancel their memberships, for them to finally publicly address it. EVEN IF they do eventually fix the problem, how they’ve handled the situation should tell you all you need to know about how the company operates. L. + The massive north-facing glass wall of the building, turns the building into an oversized greenhouse in the summer. An avid gardener would be tempted to grow tomatoes in there. Or perhaps some legumes which thrive in humid environments. • At closing time they’ll sometimes assign a rather frail, very skinny looking older lady, to be in charge of putting away heavy weights which she can barely lift. Just very weird. I feel bad for her. Speaking of staff, for what it’s worth, the majority of the staff there are chill, friendly people. •The Sports Hall has been unavailable to use for ages now. 3 months maybe? Being able to use it for activities was one of the reasons I signed up to this gym in the first place. Again, they have never mentioned when it’ll be ready. It seems they went with a ‘1 floorboard per day’ laying technique. •I would often catch one of BETTER’s Personal Trainers, secretly filming other gym-goers on his phone if he saw them doing exercises incorrectly or in an unconventional way, he did this regardless of knowing their experience level. The professional thing to do, would be to help and correct their form. NOT secretly film them. Pretty sure that’s slightly illegal. I recently switched to the PureGym, which is open 24 hours, cheaper, cleaner, has more modern equipment, and is only about 8 minutes away from BETTER’s leisure centre. The AC works too, which, as it turns out, is very important in a room full of people working out. There’s also an Anytime Fitness nearby, which I’ve heard good things about. TLDR: Don’t go here. Even if everything gets fixed or if it’s slightly more conveniently located for you than another gym. The way the management operates isn’t professional. Your money will go much further elsewhere. I never even write reviews for things, and sorry if this review feels Karen-y, but I’m just trying to save you from future disappointment.

Fantastic experience: Really clean, great customer service. Im definitely looking at this as a potential club for swimming now.

Anna (Eonex) 2 years ago

Positive experience: I like the pool area. I only come to swim so can not comment on other. Would be 4* if the showers didn't have water the temperature of the pool. I hope they fix that. In winter/when it's colder I get too cold in the pool and usually come out mid swim to warm up in the shower quickly. If I can't do that, I can't come to swim for half of the year.

L D 2 years ago

Negative experience: I used to like this gym, and I have been a member since 2017. Nowadays the temperature inside is worse than outside. Yoga is now hot yoga, Powerpump is now a sauna. Even during the winter there were humidity and air flow problems. Half the equipment is on the fritz. There was a period at the start of the year when people would turn up to classes and no instructor would turn up, or three to four classes were cancelled during the week.

Fran Hab 2 years ago

Negative experience: Absolutely appaling company management. The Swiss cottage gym has had no aircon for 7 weeks. The aircon will not be fixed anytime soon as they can'tactuallylocate the faultinthesoftware. People have fainted, yesterday the place stank of toxic fumes from paint and management hide in the basement and let the front desk staff deal with complaints. Camden council health and safety need to intervene as someone is going to have a heart attack or drop a weight on their head. When they are called, the junior managers might do what's needed like opening doors for increased circulation if you make a fuss, or redistributing the fans more fairly, but senior management have no interest. Head office have not written even one email to members to acknowledge the problem. There's nothing on the website. No apology or appeal for patience. They are burning through the good will of the remaining membership and people are leaving in droves. I've rarely seen such utter disregard for customers and wilful destruction of a brand's value.

namsoon Pollard 2 years ago

Negative experience: Just joined membership, starting today. I met a very unpleasant staff there when I asked about how to use locker room etc. it seems like customer service is poor.

PUSH 2 years ago

Positive experience: Went for an afternoon swim during one of their swim for fitness sessions consisting of 3 different types of lanes 2 double width ones on either far sides of the pool and then 2 mediums sandwiching a fast lane in the middle. All in all was a good experience. A little expensive if you’re not a member at £7.20 per session but all in all was a good experience I like the token system they’ve put in place so that you can actually use a locker and don’t have to carry around change. You can pay 30p on a contactless dispenser thing in the reception to get a token. I also liked the hassle free entry just scan the barcode on the app. My only downsides were honestly that the changing rooms while decently sized and clean were just out of date, do people still like getting completely naked in-front of each other? They didn’t have a proper alternative to that classic bench-locker style that they have going but they do have a couple of shower and toilet cubicles but who wants to get changed in there. Gross. Luckily for me it was quiet but if it had been busy I would’ve been very uncomfortable with that setup. Over all though a great experience as it were and the pool is large and was a lovely cooler temperature, which I think was deliberate due to the fact we are in the middle of a heat wave.

James Taylor 2 years ago

Negative experience: Does anything ever work here? Badminton courts floors been getting fixed for like a year, climbing wall’s broken, sauna broke (might be fixed now), and now the heatings broken to make it feel like your working out with the humidity of Amazon rainforest.

Yellow SC 2 years ago

Negative experience: Dirty and outdated gym machine. The majority of the machines are not working. UNBELIEVABLE*

John Granholm 2 years ago

Positive experience: Spacious and fully featured (gym, 25m pool, lots of exercise classes, large basketball court) with plenty of equipment and room. It's publicly funded, so that means issues like the climbing wall being out of commission (was third party-run, that 3rd party collapsed during pandemic - does anybody know a company that would like to operate and manage a big, indoor climbing facility in North London? Really!) but that considered, a wonderful and economical place to get your fitness on (45GBP/month) very convenient to Swiss Cottage Tube.

Fantastic experience: I recommend this place. It is spacious. Good exercise equipment. The staff are helpful and friendly. It has a great swimming pool. In short, a good place

Camden Littering 2 years ago

Positive experience: Facilities good and economical. Staff are helpful. However, the facilities are aging and probably needs a centre wide refurbishment in the not too distant future, although funding is a constraint. Touch more hygiene in changing rooms, bathrooms would go a long way

Negative experience: Very poor centre, the sauna room is horrific, the wood is coming apart, the metal pins have risen up and anyone that steps on it, it will cut them open, the wood if you step on it,it rises and u can fall through . It’s a serious safety matter. The worse centre ever.

Fantastic experience: switched from gym group in hampstead to here a few days ago and so far so good. very big, people actually clean the equipment, friendly staff, lockers work well, and good quality machines. the views and layout from upstairs is quit cool. really impressed

Tanweer Choudhury 2 years ago

Positive experience: Overall the atmosphere here is really nice but they've not updated their equipment for as long as I can remember in about 6-7 years or so apart from the rearrangement here and there, but I feel they genuinely need to update and add more variety in equipment otherwise they will be left behind especially with puregym in swiss cottage that has recently opened that other members have joined from better gym along with anytime fitness in swiss cottage and also another branch on chalk farm which I've heard existing members at this gym plan and have joined

Paul Docherty 3 years ago

Negative experience: I regularly find that Better's facilities are unclean and rundown (especially the bathrooms). I also have experienced poor service from staff and find that their membership policies are extremely inflexible, specifically for cancellations. My advice is to go somewhere else.

TheMan TheLegend 3 years ago

Negative experience: Paid £14.55 for 50 min Sauna + Steam Room. Turned out the steam room had been out of order for a few days. That is half the facility not working. You could notify your pay-as-you-go customers that half the facility was out of order! Thieves!

Loki Avivson 3 years ago

Positive experience: The lockers here only take tokens (that you don't get back when returning for your stuff) which can be purchased at reception for 20p. Lockers are similar to Kentish Town and St Pancras which only take 20p coins that you don't get back. Archway as well as that swimming place next to Highbury & Islington station accept £1 coins which you do get back.

Positive experience: It's great for what it is. Good gym with lots of equipment and lots of classes. It lost a star for me due to cleanliness in the cloakrooms / toilets... they need some extra budget to fix up and maintain a few areas

Negative experience: £16 for a 40-min squash court rental is too much. It doesnt seem to be cleaned regularly. My workmate/friend said that the coffee stain on the floor was there when she played Friday and we went there on a Wednesday which was 5 days after. It is not acceptable to pay that amount and have the kind of service like that. We were also sneezing and itchy. It has a nice location and definitely people could benefit from this centre but I hope they provide better service and clean facilities.

Negative experience: For months the sauna was out of service with no mention of it when you book in the app. I thought I'd call to see if it's fixed now before booking and the number just plays you a message telling you to use the app then hangs up on you.

Fantastic experience: beautiful large playroom for children with toilets.

Fantastic experience: Great gym and lots of facilities. It offers squash, badminton, swimming, gym, classes, football and sauna/steam. Staff are friendly and it's very clean.

Negative experience: We booked swimming for women only, however when we got there we were shocked to see a male lifeguard in the womens only section. This change, without any warning beforehand, was not thought out for someone who is unable to partake in these type of activities in front of men due to their religion, or anybody who is particularly uncomfortable around a male lifeguard for example, which left us not able to go to the swimming we booked and paid for. Fortunately, the workers there were very nice and gave us a refund for our booking, however the whole situation caused us a big inconvenience and we certainly will not be going to the womens section for swimming here again.

Positive experience: I've been attending this gym for a number years consistently and although I enjoy it I wish they could add/update their equipment. It has so much more potential if the space is utilised fully. The dumbbells upstairs always seem to be missing, some equipment are not often used but still take up space. And also a multiple of the same equipment when different equipment can be installed to add variety. That being said, the overall atmosphere here is nice.

Negative experience: Trained here for years, terribly run. Extremely dirty toilets all the time, sections of the gym constantly closed to members for school kids or other orgs. Worst of all is one of the upper management staff who goes on power trips. Also extremely expensive memberships for non-Camden residents.

Fantastic experience: This place is huge and has a lot of facilities. The location is convenient. It feels like a community place e.g. school when you walk into the leisure centre. Easy to book online and they managed to operate classes with social distancing (e.g. spinning).

Fantastic experience: This is a great centre, very spacious, large pool, good courts for both badminton and squash. The gym is nice and spacious. Lots of machines and free weights

Fantastic experience: Love this place, feels like a real community here. All the people that work here are professional and kind. It is great to be able to go to a class or gym and then hit the pool! Have to give a special mention to Chris, his classes are absolutely fantastic, the best instructor I have come across from other gyms that I have attended. He really does care about getting everyone fitter and better!

Positive experience: Happy to raise this score later, but at this point they have never been in contact with me regarding my new membership despite numerous promises to do so. I’ve been on hold for 90 minutes and hung up on twice when dialing them and website chat function doesn’t appear to work. I would think it would not take nearly a month to get a new membership in order, but apparently I’m mistaken. Agree with others here that say quality (at least on the admin front) has gone way down since COVID. Update: after two hours I finally got through and they set me up with the App. So far it’s worked pretty well, as the gym isn’t too crowded and equipment in relatively good shape. Still, makes you wonder what the heck is going on in the corporate back office at Better that ends up providing such poor service up front.

Positive experience: Dirty and smelly. Average staff. Council run. Very good Covid protocol. Swimming pool has pieces of toilet paper or handkerchief paper plus used band aids floating in it. Apart from that, the water is milky coloured. Gross!

Fantastic experience: The swimming pool is fantastic! The temperature of the water is just perfect. Very convenient booking system: book in the app and just scan your membership code.
