Negative experience: The management is horrible , the staff are rude. Pool parties usually take place on Saturdays at 15:00 for 2 hours. 15:00 - 16:00 - In the learner pool for fun swimming - floats and toys will be provided. 16:00 - 17:00 - In the spacious studio room for the after-party fun, with tables and chairs provided. I arrived at the pool with the food and decorations and had nowhere to put them because there was nothing organized! There were no tables or chairs in the studio room. In the meantime, I went to the swimming pool which was closed at 15:05 We waited there with the children until they opened, they wouldn't let me take pictures even though I rented the pool for my daughter's birthday party... The hour in the pool was ok, the kids had fun, the water was warm. After the pool the children need to be changed so it takes a little time. That's why we arrived at the studio room around 16:15 PM to have something to eat. Because the table and chairs were set up late by the staff I had to prepare the tablecloth, plates, glasses when the guests were already there, which didn't seem ok to me. At 17:00 two employees came along with the manager and made us leave. Without telling us anything they started to pack up the tables and chairs. I found the gesture towards us and my guests very rude. I think this type of party is too stressful for parents because the staff don't organize anything there.I do not recommend!

Negative experience: One of the worst gym I have ever been. I am a member here for the past one and half months and this is the second time I have been treated badly. Today after doing the incline bench, I moved on with a super set but before that I was asked by two of the trainers in the gym to un-rack the weights. I did un-rack them and moved on with the next workout. Those trainers had the weights all over and they are not even practicing what they are preaching. I was minding my own business and after sometime they came to me and asked to un-rack the weights from the machine which I didn’t even use. I replied back to them saying that I did not use it and the trainer started arguing with me. This is really disappointing on how they are treating their customers. Someone from the higher management has to take necessary action.

Negative experience: Good luck trying to apply for a fab card online. Even staff want to get rid of you on the phone. No help at all.

Fantastic experience: I have been a Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre member for over six months, and I am extremely satisfied with the service and facilities provided. Recently, I encountered an issue with some parking penalties that were wrongfully issued to my vehicle. I contacted the team, and Lamia, in particular, was incredibly helpful and professional in resolving the issue. She responded promptly and ensured the penalties were cancelled without any hassle. The level of customer care I received was outstanding, and it’s clear that customer satisfaction is their top priority. I highly recommend Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre for its excellent fitness facilities and the dedicated and attentive staff who make the experience even better.

Positive experience: Good public pool. Good for kids. We visit regularly and the main reception staff are lovely. The gym is supposed to be nice also.

Fantastic experience: I think the 10 mph speed limit leading to the sports centre is a bit overkill and I often get drivers behind me using their horns and gesticulating for me to speed up. Maybe adjust it to a 20mph speed limit and there will be less aggressive behaviour.

Fantastic experience: I had a frustrating experience trying to book a swim for my children on the app, on todays hot summers day. However, my visit to Copthall Swimming Pool was a complete turnaround thanks to Angelo, the manager. He was incredibly kind and helpful, and truly listened to my concerns about the booking difficulties. His exceptional customer service was evident when he offered me free entry as an adult, which was completely unexpected and greatly appreciated. Given the challenges I faced and the limited availability of slots, his gesture was truly above and beyond."

Positive experience: It’s nice place and fairly affordable with friendly staff but I wanted to register for the gym and I have benefits but since my dad has the benefits and he works full time we didn’t have the chance to complete the registration so they cancelled my membership before officially even starting would’ve been nice to get call and heads up about this I obviously was planning on using the gym

Fantastic experience: Once, the bus broke down shortly after alighting. My young son & I walked a bit and came across a field with white horses in it! My son offered the horse his apple. I will never forget that day.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place and ideal for Family with kids.

Negative experience: TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Me and my friends tried to enjoy the pool that we paid for, on a hot summer day, but we were met with absolute disrespect, and treated like rebels. Despite our polite and well mannered attitude at the pool, we were pressured to leave the pool despite us following the rules and guidelines to a tee. The life guards were impolite and kept bad-mouthing us just because we were a large group of people. The life guard alerted us that our session had ended and that we could move to the other pool, but when we did, they distastefully judged us and made us leave. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous behaviour, and it has totally ruined our outing just because they didn’t have the decent respect that we should be treated with. We had followed all their instructions with an understanding and courteous manner and was met with rude attitude.

Fantastic experience: Swimming classes are great. The coach gives attention to everyone and provides feedbacks. He slowly progresses each person based on how they pick up and is supportive and motivating. The pool is full size one, well maintained and clean. The changing rooms, showers and lockers are great as well. There is regular cleaning in the changing rooms. Parking is available on-site, it’s £0.50 for 2 hrs and can be payed at machine near the parking.

Would deffo recommend to anyone looking for a place for a kids party fully equipped with great soft play options that are in immaculate conditions.

Fantastic experience: I visited there this week. It is not my usual centre. In comparison to the centres in my area the changing rooms were very clean. All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful when I asked them questions. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: This place has been transformative for me. The gym and pool are amazing. The choice of classes is epic with the instructors being completely top notch. I went from being quite sedative to doing three classes a week and loving every moment of it. I am down one jean size and have a lot more energy which I attribute to this gym and the lovely people here. Big shout out to Praveen who runs one of the most epic Zumba classes as well as Mami and Jane who run brilliant yoga and pilates classes too. Ps great coffee and treats are available here too via pink cafe.

Positive experience: I joined to the this centre about 10 months ago, for swiming lessons for my children, honestly the areas around the swiming pools such changing rooms and acces to the swiming pools, are very dirty and poor hygiene, because they don't have hygiene measures, the allow people to enter to this areas with the dirty shoes and never provide plastic protector shoes for the users, I have asked for these plastic protectors many times, and always the containers are empty, this is a very dangerous and risk to get illneses or infections for the children. I hope to finish my children lesson in this center as soon as possible.

Negative experience: £8.30 for a swim, and I have to pay to park, even at off-peak times? I think I'll pass on this one. They certainly aren't spending any of these charges on actually heating the main pool.

Fantastic experience: We have everything necessary to be healthy here, Great size very well maintained pools and sports center, great range of equipment and classes and massive green outdoor space with fresh air.

Negative experience: Deeply disappointed with the new swimming lessons. Context , my eldest 2 kids sailed through at the old Copthall, however my 3rd child never progressed as following covid Better Health changed the lesson grading structure plus i felt that the kids had too small an area to learn in and furthermore the instructors refused to get in the pool . In autumn 2023 i moved my child to another local swimming lesson school where class sizes are limited to 6 and the instructors are in the pool. Finally after 18 months my son is back on track though i probably wasted 2 years of learning at Copthall and thats allowing for the covid disruption.

Positive experience: I am satisfied with the all day bookings and ability to go swimming when one desires however my daughter has a membership and she mainly joined because she wanted to start an active life in the gym, She didn’t have access to the gym whenever she desired, Juniors under the age of 16 are restricted from the gym at all times apart from 4-5pm or they would change the times randomly to 12:45-13:35pm which I think is very awkward timing , not everyone is available at those times, and I personally think this is degrading for the juniors which actually would like to pursue a gym life.

Positive experience: Been coming to Copthall early mornings for many years. Made many good friends there. People are generally very sociable and friendly- Main 25 metre pool is lovely. However, at times, ridiculously cold. Not necessary to be that cold at all. Each day is different. Smaller 25 metre community pool which is not always in use, for various issues- lessons schools etc is good and it is warmer. Lifeguards in mornings are great. They work hard to keep everything clean. Swimming slots must be booked in advance through the app or at centre. Reception staff are good especially Lamia. They are not always communicated to so consequently cannot always answer customers queries in certain circumstances. This is not their fault. Showers in morning are good and clean when they are all up and running, which is not always the case. Cannot speak for late morning onwards. Angel cafe have lovely staff. Open too late in morning for some people and are extremely over priced in food and drink. . Very important to check the app to know what’s going on ie galas, rugby, change of timetable. Your car must be registered with the centre to avoid fines. Monthly or yearly paying members do not pay for parking but must register their car on app or at the centre. First 20 minutes are free. Overall I would highly recommend this centre. Gym is also good and plenty of classes available. Good value all round.

Fantastic experience: I've been part of this gym for two years now, and I can confidently say that since Angelo joined, there's been a remarkable positive shift. Angelo is actively engaged, consistently helpful, and ensures we stay focused during workouts. The facility is noticeably more organized and cleaner. Seeing Angelo during workouts adds to the positive experience. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: It has been 2 months I have been a member at this gym, and every time I go to the toilet there is no toilet paper. In the shower stalls there are menstrual cycle pads on the walls, it has been like that for a few weeks and no one has checked to fix the situation. The toilet and shower drain is clogged. This shows they are not responsible and I am paying this much money for a company to not care!

Negative experience: New cafe is great! Changing rooms are hit & miss i have seen faeces on the floor & theres always a rather odd smell. Staff at reception are more concerned about having a chat. Security is questionable as youngsters (non swimmers) have walked in and decided to sit on the side and watch young children swim whilst laughing at thenm. Instructors also seem to be preoccupied with idle chit chat instead instructing children.

Positive experience: Decent gym especially the technogym equipment and good variety of cardio kit. Gym is generally clean when I go. However resistance training kit are limited (No assisted chin up, squat rack, lack of free weight space to perform deadlift and other exercises esp during peak times). Classes lacks variety. Staff are not really bothered about you and can be bit rude. Prices gone up in 2024, value for not money not great if you dont use their pool.

Positive experience: Good location. Standard membership and fees not cheap and you have to pay for parking.

Positive experience: Very basic pool, overcrowded but fine for an hour

Negative experience: Not ideal if you want to swim whenever you want. The swimming pool is divided by sessions. When it is convenient for the staff there, they will use the session limit to ask everyone out. When you booked a session that collided with swimming lessons that take the whole pool, you are also not allowed to swim until they are finished. A normal pool will just use maximum capacity as a limit for customers coming in. A normal pool will allocate some lanes for lessons, some lanes for everyone. A normal pool will not divide by session and use it as a policy to impose arbitrary rule that customers have no way of knowing until arriving.

Fantastic experience: Very new facility and very accessible. Although the pool is cold it is fairly large and good for swimming lanes.

Negative experience: Changing rooms were filthy with mud, grass and hair all over the floor. Chaos with only three lanes available for adult swimming while the rest of the pools are taken up by lessons.

Fantastic experience: Lovely family friendly place great for swimming with the kids. Only downside was pool time was restricted to 50mins which wasn't good.

Fantastic experience: I knew the old Copthall which was old and pretty awful but still provided important sport facilities. The new complex is fantastic. As a nice person I met the the centre said "It is like a country club in the countryside". Surrounded by greenery, with new clean facilities it is a quiet sport haven and a real local architecture success casestudy.

Positive experience: Not keen on mixed changing rooms and when you book swimming at 15.30 onwards there is no warning that there will be swimming lessons for children at 4pm. I decided not to stay as I wasn't sure where we would be moved to. Not organised.

Fantastic experience: This is a newly refurbished, very well ventilated gym. Perfect for swimmers, professional staff, very clean and good price. Please do remember to register your cars for parking though! Otherwise you’ll get a ticket

Negative experience: On the day I registered myself and joined this gym, I was told that motorcycle parking is free, but you need to register to be able to park your car. I registered my car as instructed, but today I was told I need to register both my motorcycle and car, and you can only have one vehicle per user. I understand this, but when I asked about whether there had been a change of rules l discovered that motorcycles always had to be registered, and the information I received on my first day was incorrect. This has led me to believe that regular gym users are being misled by receptionists, and that the people working the reception desk should be more aware of the gym rules and policies.

Positive experience: I have only been here for my kids swimming lessons, but the revamp is lovely, parking is very cheap.

Positive experience: Cold pools and staff friendly apart from a Romanian lifeguard a larger sized lady extremely hostile and made my 2 daughters feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, I do not know her name but hopefully one of the managers will recognize who I am describing and action this She looks and acted like miss Trunchball from Matilda

Negative experience: The gym is small, and lacking weights on their equipment, it's a good gym don't get me wrong but with their increased prices it's just a rip off, on top of increasing their prices they now also charge for parking which is ridiculous. I did not know this and got fined £120. به careful when canceling the membership they will charge you for the next month too, because you need to give a ridiculous 20 day notice. They love to just take money from you. There are better leisure centre's and gyms.

Positive experience: Great experience. I attended the Swim for Women here. The facilities are clean and tidy. Not too busy when I visited either. £1 is returnable for the lockers. Plenty of parking in a nice, open area. The staff were lovely but I'd advise for them to be a little more organised as I ended up waiting in a queue at reception just to sign in for my session when this could've been avoided. I'd also advise for the facility to employ a female lifeguard for the women's only session as having a male lifeguard defeats the purpose of the privacy of the women's only swim. I'm yet to try something from the cute, little cafe they have inside but overall, it was a good experience.

Negative experience: Beware of Parking Penalties and Unhelpful staff. I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by the leisure center despite paying a hefty £54 monthly membership fee. My recent experience has been marred by the issuance of parking penalty charges for each visit to the facility, which I believe is an illegal practice. Furthermore, the lady at the reception desk responded to my concerns in a rude and unhelpful manner, claiming she was unable to assist me. First and foremost, it is unacceptable that as a paying member, I am being penalized with parking charges every time I use the leisure center's facilities. This seems like an unjust way to treat loyal customers and does not align with the terms of my membership. I expect fair and transparent policies that prioritize customer satisfaction and convenience. Equally disheartening was the unhelpful attitude displayed by the receptionist when I approached her to address the issue. Her response was not only dismissive but also delivered in a rude manner, leaving me feeling unheard and frustrated. As a member, I believe it is essential to be met with professionalism and respect, regardless of the circumstances. I urge the management of the leisure center to rectify these issues promptly. Firstly, parking penalties should not be imposed on members who are paying a considerable monthly fee. It is unfair and gives the impression that the center is more concerned with revenue generation than member satisfaction. Secondly, the reception staff should undergo additional training on customer service and conflict resolution. It is essential for them to handle customer concerns with empathy, understanding, and a willingness to find solutions. No member should be made to feel powerless or unheard when seeking assistance. I hope this review serves as a wake-up call to the leisure center management. As a paying member, I expect fair treatment, transparent policies, and respectful customer service. I sincerely hope that appropriate action is taken to rectify these issues promptly and improve the overall experience for all members.

Positive experience: It's the best sports centre around here with all the facilities I need. There's a gym, swimming pools, and rooms for activities like yoga, etc. Also there are rooms for classes, large and small. The cafe is good, but really expensive and they have a captive audience of customers once you're there. As a food buff, I'll be honest and say that since the cafe changed hands recently I've not tried anything from there due to the prices being too high. If their prices were about 30% lower I might consider staying for a bite to eat and a drink. I've been coming to Barnet Copthall for over 40 years, since I was a young child, and it's changed completely since it was redesigned and became part of Better. It is a much better place than the previous gym.

Negative experience: Most EV parking spaces are ICE-ed

Positive experience: Lovely to take the children swimming, though I do feel the baby pool is a bit cold if I'm honest. And even though I wore slippers throughout most of it, I still managed to pick up a verruca so I'm not happy but will defo take the kids again as it's a nice family day out.

Fantastic experience: Changed from new Barnet to Coptall swimming pool as this venue is far better and bigger, cleaner, no kids as they have their own pool ( yay) it's not over crowded and don't allow 6 to a lane. Staff are helpful and informed. But some folk need to be reminded that gobbing your spit in the pool is frowned upon .. I or anyone else don't want to swim in it thank you! Disgusting

Positive experience: Finally. A swimming pool where diving is actually "permitted". Great place to swim. The water is cold but you get used to it as long as you keep moving. An ideal place to exercise. The only downside is you have to pay to use the car park. Overall, a good place to swim.

Negative experience: I have been told that I could use my credit toward shop purchase if I wish so. 1 or 2 weeks later surprisingly I got Aidan one of the manager asking me to describe who told me that. As a customer I feel like a ping pong ball neither do I have the time or the energy to describe a staff to get my credit back. Management need to be more focus on the information they are sharing to their staff instead of questioning customers.

Negative experience: Expected to do yoga in the same hall as a badminton game and a children's party. We normally have yoga and Pilates classes in the studios on the first floor. Today, we were told to go down into the sports hall. For the Pilates class, there was no equipment but only mats and we could not use weights or do any of other exercises. At the same time, there were people playing badminton and the noise from that class was bad. We could not hear the teacher in the Pilates class and it was difficult to concentrate with so much noise. Worse was to come for the yoga class. We were moved from one side of the sports hall and had to share space with the badminton players without any kind of partition - surely that is against the health and safety rule? Not only that, the second section was set up for bouncy castles and a children's party. Then the party music started and we could not hear the yoga teacher. In between the store cupboard behind our class was opened and staff were going in and out. Then the phones started ringing. When we complained, Daniel blamed Luke. After our classes, at 12:20, I went up at 12:20 there were only two people in one of the studios. Our fees have gone up and the centre is badly managed. The equipment is not properly cared for, the floors are dirty. There is a table and chairs in the equipment cupboard - these should not be there. When we asked for details of the complaints procedure we were told to email Luke. There was no apology and no indication that we would be recompensed for the cost of the classes. Thank you Liz and Jyoti for teaching us in such trying conditions. Shame on you, Copthall managers - GLL Better - you need to train your staff and take more care about the customers.

The service was so kind and helpful the variate of food was amazing and really tasty. with hot and cold drinks and hot and cold food. there were also tasty desserts. would go again.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful place on the corner of a green place to exercise and relax. Professional customer advisers are here to ease any wrong doing!

Positive experience: It's OK, nice to have a swim here if you get right time. New centre so not as run down as other centres. Could be a bit cleaner and the pools could be a bit warmer. Kids like the family pool, albeit don't stay too long as they get cold!

Negative experience: The gym itself is good with ample parking and wide spaces . The management is horrible , the staff are rude. There is no supervision people go to the pool in their muddy shoes and when I complained the swim instructor who was flirting with another girl started shouting and insulting me and made sure the other staff who was trying to mop to stop. He was still screaming when I left. I cancelled my membership. Absolutely disgusting. Is not the first time theirs staff shouts in the corridor or by the pool. Their fitness classes is also very limited yoga instructors very random and not well trained.

The last time I was there a chap in a blue polo shirt with walkie talkie was chasing around the pools in a panic and kept shifting people between lines and pools. Not good experience at all. Why allowing overbooking!!! Need to find somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: I’ve joined the Leisure Centre recently after looking for so long for a place to have my workout and my swimming . It is very convenient for me as a student ( quality for money ) . The place is always clean and welcoming.Bare In mind that is a charitable association and that at times they might need more support in achieving outstanding service . The gym area is so well equipped and always enough space for work outs . Swimming pool clean at all times (big plus ) …crowded at times cause of the kids training. But overall I absolutely love the place . I would highly suggest for the place to have a steam and sauna space in the jest future . It would mean a lot to the community !

Negative experience: Zero stars.... Bad experience with them, and be careful if you cancel your swimming lessons membership, the direct debit doesn't stop. I cancel my child membership since February and because I had 2 direct debits with them, I didn't notice that for one membership the payments didn't stop. My child didn't go to lessons, I can not find the email, and they can not find the cancellation in the system... some liars... they not care if you attend the lessons or not...And they don't refund my payment. I cancel the second membership this summer, and I cancel the direct debit from the bank, in their system my membership Is still active. They aren't trusted and the customer service is the worse. And for the teachers, only 1 star, they give direction only from the outside the pool.... Not satisfied with this venue, I not recommended it.

Negative experience: The swimming pool changing area is gross. Smells of pee in some of the cubicles! There are not even private showers, only a small communal showering/rinsing area… meaning you can’t really take a proper shower.. that is mixed as well so as the whole changing space. The pool is ok but lanes are quite narrow.. the water isn’t that clean, I had breakouts on my face afterwards.. on top of that the entry is simply overpriced and one of the most expensive in London. Another disgusting “Better” gym. I am just wondering where the council tax money goes.. I don’t recommend..

Fantastic experience: Everything is fantastic here. There are multiple pools to use which are all very clean. The gym is also so great. You will always find everything you need to be available in the gym. It's not packed as others which is an advantage over others. This is a great place to enjoy multiple activities like gym, Pool, sports etc

Negative experience: Had a great time at this gym, but Charles was very misogynistic, rude and nasty. He should be fired, stay out of his classes

Negative experience: Very bad management. We booked the court for games. Manager cancel the court 10mins before our session. We traveled more than 30mins to here for nothing, but disappointment. They made mistake of double booking, and the same mistake happens more than 3 times. Same things will happen again. And no one i can ask to improve this.

Fantastic experience: If someone Is serious about getting into competitive swimming then this is the place to come. The kids 8 onwards get into rigorous regime of learning how to swim in competitions. I reckon one of the best coaches in the country - Rhys - who coached 4 world record holders
