Negative experience: Came in and filled out a cancellation form ! Now they saying there is no evidence of it and they are hounding me for money !!!!

Positive experience: Decent little gym which has a good range of equipment. Been a member for just over a month after several years out of the gym, and it's a great space to get back into it again. Never massively busy and can usually get on the equipment you want. Sauna and steam rooms are a nice touch which you usually wouldn't get in this price range. Staff always say hello and the place always seems fairly clean. The app is a nice feature too as you can book onto classes, manage your membership and even see how busy it is before you go. The only thing I would say is some areas could do with a bit of tlc, particularly the changing rooms and showers, and maybe the steam room. Also some of the equipment seems well used. But to be honest, for the relatively low price for what gyms are these days (unless you go to a large chain one with a billion members), the convenient location with lots of free parking and the decent amount of equipment on offer, this is a great little gym with a quiet and laid back atmosphere to get your workouts in.

Positive experience: I have been a member of Choices Gym in Allestree for 30 months now. The gym is well equipped with cardio equipment, and body toning equipment, spin studio, a well equipped free weight area and exercise classes studio, sauna and steam rooms. The gym is supported by helpful and friendly staff. They are all trained to provide personal training at a reasonable cost. They will also provide advise adhoc. The classes in the morning are always fully booked and they are very popular. The trainers will demonstrate and supervise all classes. Some negative aspects about the gym. There is a distinct lack of maintenance policy on spin bikes and cardio machines. It does take a long time to repair broken equipment. It might be a good idea to have a regular inspection and maintenance policy. The mats and the bench in the studio are old and need replacing The steam room is regularly breaking down. In the last three months it has been working for about two weeks.

Positive experience: Decent gym and friendly team. Facilities are good and price is reasonable. Would prefer longer opening hours at the weekend.

Negative experience: Recently joined. The chap who registered me was a little cold...May be because l am an oldie!!? Told me l need to call to check there will be someone around to show me how to use the equipment. I have been calling, no answer. Then it switches to busy. If things improve l shall revise this opinion

Positive experience: This is a small gym with a good basic range of equipment and a selection of classes and a studio. It has a friendly vibe, the facilities could do with a onceover and the steamroom isn't steamy enough. The sauna is good though. A couple of things always bug me. There was no fitness plan discussed when I joined, no questions about any health issues I might have, but by far the worse is the failure of staff to check the demographic when they blast out the music. I wear headphones, but not always practical on some equipment. Usually there are half a dozen people in when I go and we're all 50 and older. I like loud music, I like all sorts, but not constant synthy dance tracks, if you do then sorted, if not make sure your your your phone/ iPod (showing my age) is fully charged.

Positive experience: Cheap and almost cheerful. Some staff are much more friendly then others. Some need a lesson in how not to ignore customers when they are stood directly in front of you at the desk.

Fantastic experience: My local gym. I’ve been going for a number of years. Always lots of new as well as regular faces. The weight room, cardio and classes are inclusive areas and you’ll see a lot of different types of people there. Everyone welcome. No judgement. PT sessions and personal trainers are also excellent and offer a lot of variety and value for money.

Fantastic experience: I've been to a lot of gyms around Derby and not felt the motivation to exercise to the level I do at choices! Great gym, its my happy place!

Fantastic experience: Just moved to the area and joined the gym. Made to feel welcome by everyone from the very first day. Everything is clean, the staff and members ensure this by maintaining the high standards at all times. The staff are great and always amazing n hand to have a chat and they really push and motivate you in the classes.

Negative experience: Running machines...have televisions.. But they don't work. COS THE AERIALS ARE NOT CONNECTED. been the same for years.

Negative experience: Staff and customers don't wear masks. No screens around reception desk. Felt uncomfortable wearing a mask. Definitely a no go gym for me.

Positive experience: Staff are friendly and always happy to help. But the place is tired and needs a refurb. It could also do with some more varied pieces of equipment. For the amount of equipment available at this gym I would say membership is overpriced. But, if you want a gym where you can access equipment and is easy going then this is the place for you.

Negative experience: Awful gym, turned up and got told to pay £5 even though we called th day before, we brought the fact they have advertised online a free workout and a 7 day free trial, got told to prove it! Christian I think tried to pocket the cash, we weren't even signed in! Gym have water leaking in the studio, in the centre of the floor and above the electric equipment, and they have just placed a bucket there! Basic equipment and not enough benches. Cardio machines we old too. Showers we very dirty, the floor was only clean were people were standing with the clean feet. There was exposed nails in the sauna room too! Avoid at all costs.

Negative experience: Really not worth even looking around, I called ahead to see if I could trial it, the guy on the phone said come down and he will sort it, when I arrived the following day Christian on reception said I had to pay £5, I said I was told to come trial for free and he said he wasn't working so it is nothing to do with him. I said they offer a free trial online and he told me to 'prove it' so I showed him his own website and then without signing anything he just told us to go in then without even looking at what I showed him. Going around everything is quite old and run down, there are some pictures I've got which show how dangerous a lot of the facilities are like nails sticking out of the sauna and broken wood sticking out.

Positive experience: Great gym with a good range of equipment. It is separated over 3 floors. The upper floor comprising of a free weights room, and a separate large room for different classes. The ground floor with varying choices of equipment for cardio and weights. Then there is a lower level which houses the changing rooms, steam room and sauna. I also believe they have a room for sports massage too (Don't hold me to that). What I have found surprising when I've visited at their busy times, is it appears to still be reasonably quiet, and enough equipment available to use. I really find the environment comfortable, and suitable for newbies looking for a place to work out without the disconcerting grunts of gym rats. If I was going to critique this place then I'd suggest the reception area be manned more consistently. However, this could be down to staffing levels. But I wouldn't let this put people off as there is a lot to offer

Negative experience: Be extra wary. If you are considering this gym please reconsider or read my advice at the end! I went in to Choices on the 20th of September to cancel my gym membership. I filled out the form to do so and was told that all I had to do after that was pay up to the 1st December and then cancel my direct debit. So I happily pay out the 3 month notice period because that was the contract and cancel my direct debit after the December payment. Not long after I received an email from Harlands who handle the gym payments asking why I cancelled and to contact them. They wanted me to setup the direct debit again or face fines and penalties. I asked them to contact Choices because there must have been a miscommunication surely but Choices contacted them claiming I had never cancelled my membership. This is extremely frustrating as I made extra sure at the time that I completed all the steps correctly and double checked that I had done everything right but something on Choices end has gone wrong. I'm now having to chase this up with Choices itself but I deeply disappointed in this. For those of you considering joining a gym and looking at Choices I can suggest a far safer way to pay for membership is looking for some online gym memberships that cover Choices. You can cancel at any time and there's no predatory contracts. The downside is you might have to pay a few extra quid but on the plus side you get access to a wide range of gyms including Choices. Please avoid signing a contract with Choices at all costs because even if you follow all the steps to correctly cancel your contract it may not be enough. I have no idea what happened to my cancellation form but I was told by the staff member who helped me through it that they would process it all for me after I completed it and handed it over (which I did) and there were no further steps after that other than paying the 3 month cancellation period (which I also did). Don't let it happen to you.

Positive experience: Good gym, i only go to this one at weekends. Never seems to busy, clean. Only downside they seem to use YouTube for music throughout gym so you here 30 second adverts now and again or random breaks in the music
