Many users have praised the staff for their friendliness and attentiveness, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The gym is equipped with a good range of equipment and features like a pool, saunas, and steam rooms, which many found enjoyable.
However, several reviews indicate that the facilities are in need of refurbishment and maintenance. The temperature of the pool has been a repeated concern, with many finding it too cold.
The following highlights summarize the opinions expressed by patrons:
- Positive Aspects: Friendly staff, good variety of classes, nice café, and enjoyable massage treatments.
- Areas for Improvement: Outdated equipment, need for deep cleaning, more maintenance in facilities, and unresolved customer service issues.
- Overall Experience: While Bannatyne Health Club & Spa has the potential for an excellent experience, enhancements in facility upkeep and customer service could significantly improve members' satisfaction.
Bannatyne Health Club & Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: I don’t typically write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my recent experience, which was quite disappointing. My app wasn't working and the gentleman at the reception seemed puzzled. He asked a lady who was working there—didn’t catch her name, but she had a long face and big eyes, looking a bit like an Afghan Hound. When he asked her for help, she tossed out a lovely response: if I couldn’t check in through the app, they wouldn’t get paid, and then she strutted off like she was off to a dog show! How incredibly rude! On a brighter note, the gentleman was a star and let me in despite the Afghan Hound’s frosty attitude. Plus, the gym equipment could do with a bit of a spruce up. Apart from that, it’s orite nothing special. I've added a photo of an Afgan Hound for anyone who doesn't know what they look like. A truly unique and stylish creature!

Negative experience: I used to be a member of Bannatyne in Ayr which was amazing. I joined here (Newcraighall) about 7 years ago but stopped after 1 year as I felt the quality was poor. Got a day pass for here recently (to see if anything had changed). Did I get a good workout: yes. And the sauna and relaxation rooms were good. The lady on the desk was really nice. However, the whole place is still just dirty (esp changing rooms) and quite dated. The jacuzzis are ridiculously tiny (feel like you’re sitting on top of other people and I’m 5ft 10 so not a very tall person), and one was broken. These were all the reasons I left, and nothing has changed in 7 years. I’d love to join, but with the condition the place is in, it’s just not worth the money. If they ever do a refurb, I’d definitely consider joining.

Negative experience: Poor quality gym with outdated equipment. Sent reminders to me constantly chasing money after I cancelled my membership. Dodgy outdated organisation. Would NOT recommend.

Positive experience: Good facilities
Hello John Walker, we appreciate your positive review about your visit to Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh Newcraighall, thank you.
Negative experience: Extremely outdated needing a complete refurbishment. Mats in the gym are like paper towels, water fountains are dirty and broken, machines broken down, rancid smell in the pool area. Long waits for benches and free weights even at off peak times as there is only 1 of everything. For the price, it's definitely not worth it.

Negative experience: Booked a spa day with my wife with access to all facilities, after the massage we were ejected from the facilities with reception claiming we had only booked a treatment, offered us to use the pool for an extra £40. Once we had left and had Internet signal, we checked and discovered we had booked and paid for full use of facilities, totally ruined the full day we had planned, we are now being pushed from pillar to post with staff blaming different departments rather than taking any responsibility as a company, I have made at least 5 phone calls to resolve and 2 emails, William from customer service left a voicemail with no contact number, said he would follow up in writing but did not, despite Niomi and other staff discussing all the issues on the previous phone calls, Niomi even phoned me back on my phone to inform me I was correct and had booked and paid for facilities, they have now taken the stance that they will not talk to me due to GDPR ...very convenient
Fantastic experience: Booked a spa day with 3 treatments for my mum and myself. It was our first time at a spa and it waa amazing so relaxing and the staff are so friendly
Negative experience: I was asked to arrived 15 minutes before my appointment time of 4pm, which I did. Got checked in at the front desk in the spa and was told to wait in the relaxation room where someone would come to get me nearer my appointment time. I was there for 30 minutes before getting a phone call to say I missed my appointment because the girl at the desk hadn't told anybody I had arrived. Explained I was waiting in a separate room like I had been told and was collected. From there the appointment ran smoothly however the first 10 minutes was lost and never added back to my massage time, which considering the service cost over £80 was disappointing. Corrine provided an amazing pregnancy massage in the time we had left and was extremely apologetic and helpful.
Positive experience: Could be better lockers are usually broken and showers 2/6 on average are always out of order and also a has horrible stench from locker room, Jacuzzi needs a deep clean really mouldy dark marks around the whole jacuzzi edge The steam room has broken tiles and cracks in the floor and ceiling The gym facilities are good though Water fountains do need to be looked into loose buttons and low pressure warm water
Fantastic experience: Great amenities and lovely and clean.
Fantastic experience: Amazing facilities and very friendly staff. Will be back for more!
Negative experience: Terrible gym, horrible dirty changing rooms/ "spa", sales staff are terrible, change prices mid contract, faulty/ dangerous equipment tthat often breaks while using it, no renovation or money going into the gym
Fantastic experience: Excellent spa and gym. The relaxation rooms are nice, but I'm too short to fit properly on the chairs. The spa is relaxing, the gym has lots of equipment and usually good schedules for classes. They have student prices and discounts with some private health insurances.
Negative experience: The staff are lovely and you honestly can’t fault them but the gym is absolutely terrible. Only two cable machines in the whole of the gym and they are constantly broken, came in today and the smith machine is now broken, a class is being held on the free weight floor using 4 of the benches (there’s only 5 benches in total !) this wouldn’t be such an issue if the gym actually had duplicate machines but they don’t. There is one leg extension machine in the whole of the gym, there is one smith machine in the whole gym. I could go to pure gym pay £20 and have access to triple the amount of equipment. They have drastically oversold on capacity to it’s impossible to use any machine without waiting even on off peak times. It’s a Sunday and I have currently stood waiting 32 minutes for a plate loaded shoulder press. If you use the gym to workout I would avoid. If you use it simply for leisure then might be for you
Fantastic experience: Went for a spa treatment with my friend and I absolutely loved the massage. Felt so relaxed and chilled.
Negative experience: Do not recommend at all. Very unhygienic. I have spoken to staff in person regarding this. Sent emails to management. Taken photos and sent them directly to the manager. Complained in person at reception and nothing has ever changed. I joined in October. Got a really bad chest infection. Stopped attending, recovered. Restarted here. Was ill again in the run up to Christmas. Stopped going. Recovered. Returned in January (after refurb of spa area) only to have another chest infection again in March and sick again. Confirmed today with GP that burns on both my legs are chlorine burns. The only place I’ve been with chlorine is the Jacuzzis here. The gym floor is very unhygienic and a lot of the machines are out of order. Fire extinguisher(s) just as ONE notable point have had a layer of dust on them since I joined which means they haven’t been cleaned or checked. The changing rooms (at least the male) have a lot of unusable lockers. Mud, dirt, dust, moth balls and usually damp or soaked) 3 different times I’ve turned up and ALL even the disabled showers have been out of action and the smell. Whatever that is. Vile! Poolside is an altogether different experience. The steam room smelled BAD when I first joined but was slightly better after refurbishing. They didn’t change or touch the relaxation room or saunas. I have seen the same blood mark on the floor for over 7 days in the sauna and clearly all of the poolside facilities don’t get cleaned properly with finger and hand marks all over the doors, water marks on the floors. Sharp edges in the “new” steam room, plasters stuck to floor/floors for days. Jacuzzis are all chipped and usually one is roasting and the other freezing. No atmosphere, a few cheap fake plants doesn’t cut it. Kids CONSTANTLY screaming and using facilities they clearly aren’t supposed to while the parents just watch on and let them do it while making people(s) relaxation time almost impossible. The pool is freezing (blamed on a faulty heat pump) but has never been warm. The water machine dispenses warm water, the jacuzzis are stained around the edges, The wood in the saunas have seen better days, the relaxation room is too hot to actually sit on. I could go on and on and on. Before you even get into the “health club” your confronted with crater sized potholes throughout the car park and if you are lucky enough to find a space this is generally so close to other cars. Not to mention the continued misuse of parent and child bays. And able bodied individuals parking in disabled bays without passes. I have had to park at newcraighall station before now and walk over. The whole site needs an overhaul. Outdated, unsanitary and mismanaged. My membership has now been cancelled and I won’t be back.
Negative experience: I had the worst experience with this club and rude customer service trying to cancel my membership. The locker rooms were unsanitary and slippery, with no plastic bags for your clothes or any place to put wet towels. Half of the equipment in the gym needed to be fixed and updated. The mats were dirty, and there needed to be more weights for everyone. The steam room was out of service daily, and the swimming pool was filthy. I signed up for a yoga class, and they called to cancel the same day without an explanation. I wasted my time, energy, and money. I recommend joining the One Spa Gym, which has excellent state-of-the-art equipment and a fantastic spa experience. I canceled my membership after three visits, and I paid over £100 in the joining fee, pro-rated costs, and another month on top of that. Beware of scams, and stay away from Bannatyne.
Positive experience: Potential to be such a great gym/spa but the fact there is ALWAYS equipment broken or something wrong with the spa ruins the experience. Also the saunas are infrequently cleaned, saw the same plaster for a whole week in one of the saunas.. disgusting
Negative experience: I was really looking forward to the spa day earlier. Unfortunately the massage I received was probably the worst one I’ve ever had. Next to no pressure, I’m not sure it can be called a massage. I did ask for more pressure to be exerted twice but to no avail. On top of this I would add that the facilities look pretty outdated and could do with a serious revamp. I came away feeling disappointed as I was really looking to relieve some tension and stress I’ve felt recently but in all honesty I think I will need to go to a parlour/salon to receive a proper massage.
Negative experience: So disappointed in our "bubbles & bliss experience" I purchased for my sisters birthday, on arrival we were left confused by the hire & deposit of sliders & robes. I offered to pay the £30 requested in cash I was told we don't accept cash My sister then put this on her card to be informed - on leaving - she won't receive her deposit back for at least 2-5 working days! So in all we are being given back £10 of the £30 paid (on top of the cost of our "bubbles & bliss experience") - we have essentially paid 10 each for cheap & uncomfortable sliders & a tote bag. Our bubbles were only served in the cafe area - completely exposed to public, cold open planned area... with little privacy to sit in a robe. We were then left to find our way between changing rooms, spa treatments area & the pool/sauna area - which again is extremely open planned if you are wearing just your robe/ swim wear. Our treatments were however fantastic... massages & facials were great & the staff giving treatments were friendly & knowledgeable. Unfortunately we could not enjoy the relaxation room due to the continued random banging/ dropping of weights - unnerving when you suffer ptsd/anxiety & came to "relax" the gym music was louder than the relaxation music being played at points. The robes & towels were stained/ dirty. The pool was freezing, areas such as jacuzzi, steam rooms, saunas were being used by children despite notices advising that was not allowed. Definitely wouldn't go back/ reccomend to anyone
Negative experience: Hello Visited today spa . Staff from spa amazing, enjoyed massage 100% Food shocking … we had avo toast and baked potato . Cheese wasn’t even melted ,coffee absolutely not enjoyable. Poached eggs over cooked. We couldn’t enjoy our food .
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place. Came for a spa break a friend bought us for an anniversary present. Met by friendly attentive reception staff and guided through the checking in process with ease. The spa bag is a must for visitors as you rent a robe and towel and are given a bag for life and spa flip flops to keep, £10 may seem a bit much but its well worth it. The massage was professionally given with modesty honored and a detailed talk through given. The lady may be petite but she delivered a top class back, shoulder, leg and scalp massage, with constant communication regarding pressure used and position you were placed in. Therapy rooms were basic but clean and well presented. Relaxation room was spotless and had lovely heated stone beds with ample liquids provided and beautiful mood lighting. If I was pushed to give a negative it would be the background noise from the gym but that was negligible. The pool was clean and well kept. It comes complete with three jacuzzi, one cold and two warm. Two dry sauna, one steam room, a relaxation room and pool side showers both hot and cold. I don't think you could quite make a day of the experience but I am the most relaxed I have been in a long while. Thank you all at Bannatyne health club and spa, keep up the good work
Positive experience: many broken machines
Negative experience: Been a member for a few years now, definitely in need of refurbishment. Machines haven't been updated in that time, numerous machines and other pieces of equipment in poor condition. Everything just feels really run down and the gym is falling behind others in the area.
Hello Stephen Cochrane, we are sorry that your experience did not match your expectations at our Bannatyne Health Club & Spa - Edinburgh Newcraighall, should you wish to discuss in further detail please email [email protected]. Thank you for your review, we will continue to try and improve the service we offer, Lee Smith.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend, plenty of variation of classes and gym equipment. Pool area & changing rooms are clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Bonus of a starbucks in the cafe area!
Fantastic experience: had a great massage by kinga, good range of equipment and nice cafe
Fantastic experience: Started going here a week ago and it's a big step up from my previous gym. Equipment good and plentiful, and the café out front is great in a pinch. Locker rooms are good - showers have been a bit hit or miss (sometimes they don't work, or water sprays out sideways), but that's my only criticism. Still, I've enjoyed my time here so far!
Positive experience: After reading reviews I expecting things to be a bit shabby but was pleasantly surprised. The pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and changing rooms were well maintained and really relaxing. There were two heated jaccuzis as well as one in the swimming pool and two saunas! The treatment suite was beautifully decorated and the after treatment relaxation room was amazing with heated stone beds. Unfortunately the massage I received was awful - the worst I have ever had and to add insult to injury I had paid an upgrade to have longer. The treatment I received left me extremely upset - actually traumatised - for hours afterwards and I won't be returning there. I would have stopped the massage half way through but my friend was sharing the treatment room with me and I didn't want her disturbed or upset. A letter of complaint will be finding its way to management. It is a massive shame because everything else is spot on.
Negative experience: Cancelled my membership however they continued to request direct debt payments months later have proof that I was Cancelled so should it continue than legal action will be sought, disgrace, stay away not worth £55 better gyms and clubs out there, got miss sold and was left having to pay it for 12 months after moving back to home city which made it impossible for me to use the facilities if you could even call it that, will never use their gyms etc. Again stay away,
Negative experience: Be careful. Sales team will tell you what you want to hear to get you to sign up. Contract was cancelled on account of being mis-sold. -- Gym itself is fine. No issues with equipment or gym floor. Staff are friendly. Shower area is quite grim and well overdue some remedial work.
Negative experience: I never review things, cause I’m just not a big reviewer. But in this case I’ll make a super special exception, cause they really deserve it. Bannatyne”s Fort Kinnaird is awful. From the lack of maintenance on the equipment, to the cleanliness of the pool and steam room. This place well past it’s sell by date, and they totally know it. Wires trailing out machines, broken bits of wood with nails sticking out of them, broken showers, tiles falling off the walls, stagnant smells in the sauna and rusty metal items in the pool area. it’s needing a total over hall to the point of being a running joke from its regulars. If you want to avoid spending £60+ a month and feeling ripped off, you know what to do. Go elsewhere.
Negative experience: Not clean. Disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Just had the best back, shoulder & head massage followed by a wonderful facial. All carried out by Kirsty who was phenomenal, friendly and highly qualified. I have just booked in another treatment with her and I would not hesitate in recommending her to anyone.
Negative experience: Place is falling apart why I'm paying £600 a year is baffling
Fantastic experience: Good range of equipment and nice cafe
Negative experience: Tried to use gym before I flew out on holiday and was turned away because I wasn't a member of there own gym even though I've been with bannatynes for over 10years! Went to one in city and they couldn't have been nicer. They say there a tier above Ayr branch etc .. no chance definitely an over rated dated gym.
Negative experience: Honestly, awful. Dated, no money has gone into upkeep. The lockers is potluck if you get one that works. The staff are keen to get you out the building asap. The reception team have no customer service, you’re lucky if you even get an acknowledgment from them. Unfortunately I was lied to by guy who gave me the sales tour of club, he said they were getting refurb and expansion, but that was a lie. So tied into a contract based on lies. The gym equipment is fine, and I will say a couple of the gym instructors are friendly. It’s the rest of the customer service from front desk that’s a massive let down. Honestly feels as though they find having members a nuisance and would much rather sit behind desk and chat amongst themselves.
Negative experience: Review for Bannatyne's Gym, Newcraighall, Edinburgh: A Disappointing Experience I recently joined Bannatyne's Gym located in Newcraighall, Edinburgh, and I must say that my experience to date hasn't left much to be desired. As a paying member, I expected a certain level of quality and service, but unfortunately, the club falls short on several fronts. One of the main issues I encounter is the state of the equipment. It is evident that the gym has not invested in updating or maintaining its equipment for quite some time. The machines are old and tired, showing clear signs of wear and tear. It is incredibly frustrating to find myself constantly having to search for functional machines due to the limited availability of working equipment when much newer and better equipment is available in gyms at half the price. Adding to my disappointment is the lack of assistance from the staff. Instead of being attentive to the needs of paying members, it appears that the staff were more interested in personal training sessions. While I understand the importance of personal training, it should not come at the expense of assisting the gym's members. A smile would be nice... Moreover, the spa facilities are equally disappointing. The tired state of the facilities are evident, paint peeling of the walls, broken showers and jacuzzis frequently being out of order. It seems like every other week, one of the jacuzzis is broken, limiting the enjoyment and relaxation for members. Additionally, the steam room has an unclean smell, which is off-putting and gives the impression of poor hygiene standards. The issue of pricing is a constant concern as well. It is disheartening to see the prices being raised regularly, without any apparent improvements to justify the increases. This blatant disregard for loyal customers leaves a sour taste in the mouth. To make matters worse, when I took the initiative to voice my concerns in the past, I never received any follow-up or resolution from the management, staff or head office. It seems that customer feedback falls on deaf ears, which is extremely frustrating for anyone seeking a satisfactory experience. Such a shame to leave such a negative review, but I firmly believe that paying members deserve better.
Positive experience: Decent gym and wet side facilities
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, staff are extremely friendly. Well done
Negative experience: Little to no investment in club facilities during my membership. They were dated when I joined and I suspect many members will be leaving in favour of a brand new DL facility close by when it opens. Friendly staff but unless you’re paying for PT they take little / no interest in your health and fitness. At no point was I offered a health review or had a plan created for me. Cafe doesn’t serve good quality food or truly healthy food either. Parent and child parking always full of non parents and staff don’t police this. Car park has more pot holes than an off road 4x4 track. Broken / slow touchscreens on all treadmills. On cancelling my membership I discovered their contractual terms are not 30 days notice but in fact 1 full calendar month. So if you plan on leaving ensure you give written notice in time for your planned end date (which must be the end of a month so they can take a full final payment from you). I’ve raised this wording with their team but they haven’t shown any interest in amending the terms so that they are fairly worded. Their corporate DNA appears to be ‘pass the buck’ and ‘the customer is always wrong’. If it hadn’t been my only gym option I wouldn’t have stayed a member so long.
Fantastic experience: I booked a spa day where I had access to the pool sauna and steam room area prior to having 2 X 30min treatments. Great value for money and the treatments were amazing, facial and I upgraded to lava shell massage. The staff were very friendly and helpful
Positive experience: The gym was good. The scrambled egg and toast wasn't to write home about!
Fantastic experience: Very nice spa woth good prices and great service. Definitely worth recommendation. We shall be back there
Negative experience: Overall the place is very outdated, and adding Laggy android tablets do not make the facilities "state of the art" I have even gotten ill a few times after using the gym, I guess they justify the value of the gym by the average pool facilities and "fitness classes" (90% of them being useless) I guess there's nothing else good about the area but if you are just looking to bang out the gym, GO ELSEWHERE , more of an old people social club.
Negative experience: It is freezing in the pool area and in the shower area. I actually got sick because when you leave the shower there is a jet of cold air towards you which can make you feel sick. For this reason I can’t even take my child with me. It’s obvious they want to save money but it’s not fair for the members and it makes it impossible to attend. Not worth the money I am sorry. Me and my husband are out after a year of contract. Food is quite low quality but fair for the money cause it’s very cheap. The girls from the SPA are great in massages. Another good point is the parking space, so one star review well deserved.
Fantastic experience: The membership may be a bit more expensive than the average health and fitness club but you see the benefits in the well equipped gym and very nice facilities. The staff are always pleasant and the premises are always kept clean. Would recommend!
Negative experience: Facilities - 2/5 - some gym equipment feels tired and not well maintained. Swimming pool freezing and jacuzzi's lukewarm (need a hot shower to warm you up after using it). Light in the carpark has been broken for god knows how long and without exaggeration, its genuinely pitch black at night. Staff - 2/5 - few of the staff are really friendly/knowledgeable and no surprise they are the only one's that are busy/have lots of clients. The others clearly hate/resent people being in the club...by looking at the profile pictures its easy to see which ones do not enjoy being around people. Once witnessed the lady with blonde hair taking a gentleman on an induction. During that induction, she approached another gent, who was quietly working out. In between sets he went on his phone (gym was dead) and she had a massive rant at him for being on his phone. She then turned to the member she was introducing to the gym to smirk/laugh....he also looked equally uncomfortable. Really great positive interaction. Cleanliness - 2/5 - Spa facilities in particular are pretty minging. Going into the steam room is similar to that of an underground cave with stalagmites hanging from the roof. You could actually take a potato peeler to the walls and scrape all the gunk off. Café - 2/5 - quite often food order is wrong/ingredients are missing. Ordered a smoothie today, arrived in a pint glass, lovely stuff. As we needed to leave sharpish after eating, we asked if we could take the smoothie away. Staff member brought the pint's worth of smoothie back in a half pint takeaway cup. Not an expert in maths, but when I released this didn't add up, we decided to question it. We were told "the takeaway portion is always smaller and the rest is gone down the sink". Lucky I didn't ask for my breakfast to go or I would be missing a sausage! Open and honestly ripping you off to your face. Oh I forgot to mention, when the half pint smoothie came back it miraculously changed flavour and colour also! Value for money - depends what membership price you are on. If you joined years ago and have the £30 a month membership, i would say 4/5. For newer members on £65 a month, don't bother. Premium price for run down facilities, poor cleanliness etc. Conclusion - think its a real shame as could be a decent gym. Totally understand funding etc can be an issue, and you can only manage the facilities that you have. But when you can't get the basics right (cleanliness/temperature/service) then you are absolutely throwing away what's in your control. Duncan Bannatyne - Sorry...but I'm out!!
Positive experience: I have a membership for here and the gym is good, does need some maintenance such as repainting but other than that it is okay. There is a lot of equipment to choose from, however there is too many cardio machines and not enough of a free weights area which is something I was told would be changing at some point. However, the pool is horrible in my opinion. It is freezing cold and not well maintained or cleaned properly. I expected it to be much better and the changing rooms are also a let down. There is only 2 cubicles for the whole changing area and obviously some people don’t mind changing in front of others (I am not one of these people) but you can hardly ever get a cubicle because they’re always busy which to me, goes to show that the changing room would be better with more cubicles instead of people having to go and change in a toilet. The staff mostly seem friendly enough and there is plenty of parking. However be careful walking through the car park on a night as some bits are uneven and not very well lit.
Negative experience: Won’t be returning. I booked a 60 minute deep tissue massage. My appointment was for 11:15 (they also ask that you arrive 15 mins prior to appointment). I was still sitting in the waiting room at 11:20. The treatment ended at 12:08 so technically got a 50 minute massage. I also asked her at the beginning to apply a lot of pressure as I have lots of knots and reassured her she wouldn’t hurt me. Unfortunately she did not apply much pressure at all, it was more of a light rub as opposed to deep tissue. She also spent a lot of time rubbing my ankles and scapula. So overall it was a 50 min light bone massage. Staff were friendly. The room was basic enough. No candles lighting. No incense or essential oils.
Fantastic experience: New to the area, gym and facilities are exactly what I needed.
Fantastic experience: Went for a Spa Day for 2 with a Virgin Experience voucher. Staff very friendly, nice changing rooms and facilities, great pool with saunas and jacuzzies. Had wonderful treatments from Claire and Amanda and enjoyed the relaxation room afterwards. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: This place was so lovely staff were friendly and helpful.i had a fabulous massage with a lovely girl who knew what she was talking about!the facilities are great I used the steam room sauna pool and relaxation rooms the relaxation beds were amazing so warm!I had the scrub and sparkle for 2 I received it as an Xmas gift.would definately recommend.only thing I felt was an issue is that children are allowed in the pool which I felt was a tad annoying g as I was there to totally relax so the pool didn't feel too relaxing with kids throwing a ball and screaming etc !apart from that had a really great experience x
Negative experience: The gym is in serious need of a makeover. Everything looks and feels old and worn out. The equipment is outdated and there's not enough of the stuff people actually want to use. The jacuzzi is always broken and the saunas are never hot enough. The steam room is hit or miss, and when it's on, it smells musty. The place is also pretty dirty. I've seen gum stuck to benches for days and flies in the showers, even in winter. If I could cancel my membership, I would.
Positive experience: Bannatynes used to be a good experience but it's recently gone down hill. The swimming pool is freezing and the Jacuzzi is Lukewarm and one Jacuzzi is always turned off even at their busiest times. I did a spinning class recently and the handle bars fell off the bike which shouldn't happen. The gym/swimming pool is not being maintained. Unfortunately I will be looking for a new gym if things don't improve.
Positive experience: Found my experience quite underwhelming in all honesty. Went for spa luxury as a birthday treat, but although the staff were lovely and very professional, the experience wasn't as luxurious as I had anticipated. Much more of a gym than a spa....just seemed to be very sidelined and almost forgotten about. The robes were too small, the sliders were generic and were too small, we weren't asked what size we needed..... I was impressed with the hairdryers and swimsuit dryers available. The pool was clean, the saunas were perfect temperature, the reception staff were lovely, I just think I expected more of a "personal" experience. To be wined and dined so to speak..... I will be back to the pool etc, but think I may miss out the treatments.
Fantastic experience: Great massage from Kelly
Fantastic experience: I love this gym.... awesome swimming facilities and just a great atmosphere... Great option of classes and my children love it too
Positive experience: Joined about 2 months ago and have been very happy so far. The membership prices are reasonable compared to even leisure centres around and there are loads to do. Sauna, steam room, 2 Jacuzzis and a nice pool. Everytime we're there staff members are friendly and helpful, someone is lways cleaning and on hand. Really happy we joined.
Positive experience: Mostly Friendly staff, and all equipment you need is there, but when it's busy be prepared to wait as there is only 1 of each machine and some people take far too long using them!
Positive experience: Gym is good but nothing is being updated as for gym and spa
Positive experience: Massage and facial loved it Manicure and pedicure waist of money nail polish smudged before I left girl sorted it even hang around till it dried was smudged by the time I got home will definitely go back but not to get my nails done
Positive experience: This was a very nice experience. I used a voucher from Groupon and it was a very good deal. All the staff were friendly and I came out feeling very relaxed. Perfect as a birthday treat for someone you love.
Negative experience: BANNATYNE WILL ROB YOU - Do not sign up here. I have a 12-month contract membership at Queen Street Bannatyne's gym. My partner and I attended the Livingston gym for a couple of months before moving together to Edinburgh and Queen Street would become my home gym, the only Bannatynes gym we attend. When requesting to lower my Tier so that Queen Street can be the only gym I attend, I have been told that because the account was upgraded to a higher tier, I can no longer return to the original tier it was on until the end of my contract. Originally, at the point of asking for assistance so that I could attend the Livingston gym, I was never told that under terms and conditions, I would not be allowed to downgrade my account until the end of my contract if I upgraded my Tier. I was under the impression that I would be allowed to downgrade back to my originally selected tier once we moved. Furthermore, I can not find anything to do with this problem of upgrading and downgrading tiers in any of the terms and conditions of memberships on the Bannatyne website on 12-month contracts or under multi-club access pages. This meant that I am left feeling undervalued as a customer, agitated, and that Bannatyne purposely runs an operation to make things difficult in order to acquire as much money as possible at the expense of people's circumstances in malicious and devious means and practices. --- All staff should explain terms and conditions, along with signature to any changes within someone's contract at the point they change or intends to make a change in order to prevent similar situations like these from arising in the future. This issue should also be highlighted in the terms and conditions of the 12-month contract. --
Negative experience: DO NOT sign up for this membership. Bannatyne requires to sign a contract that has horrific terms and you will have a headache attempting to cancel your membership even when you are outside the contract terms. The gym is small, lacks a lot of basic equipment and value for money is terrible. You will regret it.
Negative experience: Gym sauna and pool really small. As banantynes doesn't understand customers request. Do Not recommend.
Positive experience: Amazing pool and gym, Recommended
Fantastic experience: Superb staff, especially Jackie
Fantastic experience: 3 days ago i had an amazing experience in SPA department. Full body massage was amazing. Very nice at atmosphere created by Claire. Professional from begging. She’s big credit to company. Highly recommended. Well done Claire
Fantastic experience: Lovely place really nice staff vip treatment for the period of your stay
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff, nice and clean facilities
Positive experience: Enjoyed my visit here
Fantastic experience: Love the pool and the fact I can bring my daughter too
Fantastic experience: First class facilities and excellent staff
Positive experience: Facilties great but *some* of the staff are bizarrely lacking in friendliness/professionalism. Front desk staff member "joking" about day passes not being valid due to covid. Relaxing in the jacuzzi on my own and told very curtly and firmly to sit on the edge when the jets were off. No explanation why. Shame as some of the other staff member are lovely.
Fantastic experience: Staff are lovely, very relaxed atmosphere and treatments are amazing
Fantastic experience: Lovely, spoliy hairdo sesh
Positive experience: Chilled!
Fantastic experience: Staff were lovely and treatments ideal. Facilities were clean and everything in the gym and swimming area was accessible. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great looking gym friendly staff good place to go
Fantastic experience: Visited spa. Lovely helpful staff and really enjoyed my massage and relaxation room
Fantastic experience: Very clean and very friendly and helpful staff
Positive experience: Bardzo drogo ale warto się zapisać
Fantastic experience: The safety that has been in place is good but just a shame that the clients refuse to read them..for example 1 in jacuzzi, 3 in steam room
Positive experience: Did a half day pamper package here a couple of weeks ago. The lava she'll massage was good, but nothing outstanding. The relaxation room looked lovely, but unfortunately was located right next to the free weights gym, so it was difficult to relax with the sound of weights banging down on the floor every few minutes. They had strict Covid one-person only rules for use of the jacuzzis and sauna (strangely, even for those of the same household) but there was no-one to enforce them, so they weren't being followed. Also, certain older men were hogging the jacuzzis by sitting in them while they were off, supposed to be cleaning. I wouldn't come back for a spa day again or get a membership here.
Fantastic experience: We got a scrub and full body massage, really relaxing and would recommend.
Fantastic experience: I have a spa day booked for myself and my friend. We both had a very good experience - body scrub, facial and head massage.
Fantastic experience: El spa esta muy bien y el gimnasio buenas máquinas
Fantastic experience: I have trained here everyday for 11 years, The Club, Complex and Staff are Top Class. The Club has been updated and has a high standard of Class, Amazing Hygiene and I have trained my whole life and wouldn't choose anywhere else. The staff are so helpful,Polite and welcoming, Professional and know eactly what they are talking and this adds to whole Class of the New Craig hall Bannytynes Health Club.
Fantastic experience: Very nice club! Gym with top quality equipment, swimming pool, 2 sauna, 1 steam room, 1 relaxation room, 2 jacuzzi. Staff very friendly and facilities very clean. A private parking space is at the rear with plenty of space. Price is over the average but definitely worth it.
Fantastic experience: Just joined after gyms reopened after lockdown. The staff and the cleanliness of the gym and other areas within the building is fantastic... Pool and gym great for the membership price.
Positive experience: Female showers are terrible
Positive experience: The staff at bannatynes are doing an excellent job under trying circumstances I only use the swimming pool and must admit that I miss the closure of the steam room and sauna. I can't foresee either of these facilities opening any time soon because of social distancing. But overall i understand that we all have to compromise as long as this pandemic is with us Jimmy Taylor
Fantastic experience: Love this gym ,friendly staff
Positive experience: Deep tissue massage from Claire and it was fantastic never felt so loose, will be going back.
Fantastic experience: Very clean lots of classes and exellent equipment. Staff very helpful. Exellent gym
Fantastic experience: Great spa day
Fantastic experience: Staff helpful, well organised with all amenities
