Negative experience: Quite dark in there on my visit on a Sunday around 6 pm. No staff around . The gym itself was ok though ..

Negative experience: Horrendous experience, I will delete my subscription. No hygiene at all,Not even the minimum required as a simple soap. Very bad atmosphere.

Negative experience: Sorry but you can’t have a gym with no soap to wash hands, an air dryer which doesn’t work (if you do wash your hands with just water). Hand sanitizer’s gone from all over the gym. It’s been like this for months now… you have lads going to the toilet and back and on the floor using the equipment without washing hands. Get what I mean?

Negative experience: Title: Disappointing Experience at Pure Gym Chelmsford I recently visited Pure Gym Chelmsford with high hopes of a fulfilling workout session, but unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. My visit was marred by a multitude of issues, primarily revolving around faulty equipment and a disappointing lack of adherence to basic gym etiquette. Firstly, the state of the equipment was appalling. Several machines were out of order, with no indication of when they would be fixed. This not only limited the variety of exercises I could perform but also resulted in unnecessary waiting times as other patrons jostled for the few functioning machines available. It's disheartening to pay for a gym membership only to find oneself unable to use essential equipment due to maintenance neglect. Furthermore, the overall gym atmosphere left much to be desired in terms of cleanliness and organization. The gym floor seemed perpetually cluttered, making it difficult to navigate between machines without bumping into other gym-goers or abandoned equipment. The lack of regular cleaning was evident, with sweat-stained benches and sticky floors detracting from the overall experience. But perhaps most disappointing was the lack of respect for gym etiquette among fellow patrons. There was a notable absence of individuals re-racking weights or wiping down machines after use, creating an unhygienic and chaotic environment. It's disconcerting to witness such blatant disregard for basic gym rules, which ultimately detracts from the experience for everyone present. Overall, my visit to Pure Gym Chelmsford was a regrettable one. The combination of faulty equipment, poor cleanliness, and a lack of adherence to gym etiquette significantly diminished the quality of my workout. For those seeking a reliable and well-maintained gym environment, I would advise looking elsewhere until these issues are addressed and resolved.

Negative experience: I’ve used this gym for a while as it’s been quite good with the classes they offer, etc. However, I haven’t had such a good experience recently. I was using some of the gym equipment and I was asked to share and take turns in between my reps, but wasn’t comfortable with this. One of your instructors pointed out to me in front of everyone that I was expected to share and be “friendly” especially during peak times. Does it not occur to some people that it can be very uncomfortable and off putting when someone is interrupting you and watching you exercise? Why couldn’t these members wait their turn and patient like I have done in return. Also this instructor was doing a class with some of the machines during peak times which then takes up more of the space? Doesn’t make sense. Left the gym upset and cancelled membership straight away.

Positive experience: Good gym with plenty of benches and cardio machines. I haven't needed to wait long for something I need (or an alternative to what I need). Haven't taken any classes but any time there is one, I see plenty of people taking it. The people are iffy, some wipe the benches/machines after they use it, some don't so safe bet is to wipe before and after you use it. Some put their plates back after using, most don't so more times than not you'll need to walk around and hunt down the plate you need. Dumbbells are always returned though luckily. I've been to worse gyms so I think this one is pretty good.

Positive experience: I've been a member since the day it opened, and it's gone down hill sadly. Something is always broken, the equipment is getting tired, the cleaning is substandard, the music is always too quiet in the mornings,, some mornings the staff aren't there till 06.20. It needs a big shake up and refurbishment

Negative experience: I recently changed gyms to the PureGym in Chelmsford and I was unfortunately disappointed. The gym is extremely compact, with limited space and equipment, as compared to other gyms I have been too. I won't be renewing my membership at this particular gym.

Negative experience: Never like to be publicly negative about a company, but after months of emails raising complaints about 2 very simple things with no resolution, what else are you supposed to do. They are quite happy to take your money every month, but ignore you for everything else. The female changing room sinks smell absolutely disgusting, imagine rotten eggs on steroids it is so awful and has been for months, the smell is so bad it makes you feel physically sick… And the showers are absolutely freezing cold, I have raised both issues multiple times via email, the smell remains a bad as ever and to be told the showers are set to 33 degrees due to their carbon footprint concerns… the showers are no where near 33 degrees. You shouldn’t have to stand in a shower covered in goosebumps and pay for the privilege! Will be looking else where for membership as the thought of using the changing rooms here 5 times a week in the winter is not even worth thinking about. Just a further edit, after leaving this review and making a further complaint about the state of the place, zero has been done to rectify this, in fact it’s even worse, showers will freezing cold, bathroom sinks still smell like rotten eggs and it is a breeding ground for disease! Fantastic experience: Would not recommend going Mondays unless you want to wait 2 hours to use a machine (enjoy cardio). Some equipment feels uneven (juicy pump though).

Negative experience: This used to be a great gym (except for the unholy smell in the changing rooms!) at a very very good price. The equipment is decent and has everything you needed. But they must have run a huge recruitment drive in January this year because it got very busy very quickly and has only got busier and busier as the year has gone on. It doesn't matter what time of day or night you turn up now you, will struggle to get on the equipment you want. It's to the point of being dangerous in the free-weights area with big groups of tiktokers standing around every piece of equipment - only a matter of time before someone gets injured. They have two large areas where they run classes which puts those areas out of use and further squeezes space. God forbid if they're running two classes at once - you might as well turn round and go home. Do yourself a favour and find another gym. I know I will.

Negative experience: this chelmsford gym is so poor, the only thing going for it is parking is good, hardly any weights equipment, you can't workout properly as equipment always busy, the place is full of little sarms goblins asking how many more sets, "the gym" over the road is far superior just lacks parking

Positive experience: This is the 3rd puregym i have been a member of, and i have to say the worst so far...thats not to say its awful - all puregyms are good value. However - the gym space is odd and badly laid out IMO and the balance of equipment is wrong. Too much cardio while you can't ever get on the upstairs weight equipment. I believe you need to cap the membership, up the price , or offer an offpeak student package (like colchester had) or look at what equipment is actually being used in the space. If you can't ever get on what you want to use then its pointless and frustrating.

Negative experience: don't bother. they say you can cancel at any time and its easy. complete lie.

As long as the direct debit has been cancelled at least 4 working days before a payment is due (to allow the bank to process this and notify us) no further payments will be taken and the membership will cancel down. Negative experience: 9/10 Change room smells so bad and there is no enough ventilation in it. Eventhough it is a busy gym, equipments are in good condition overall.

Positive experience: Decent gym but very crowded at peak times. Also it could do with another bench press to minimise queueing. Overall lots of teenagers, it could do with an 18+ policy.

Negative experience: New Member, attended last night for the fist time for 2 classes and the Instructor didn't show up. No communication, no one to ask, really poor experience.

Positive experience: I have been at this gym for over a year now, on the positives the staff are good, price is great and parking is good. It does get busy at around 6.30 pm... I always ask to jump on with other people using the equipment, usually that is fine and works ok. They are definitely lacking in some equipment and some bits are in a weird place... why not move one ski machine upstairs for instance? Two main issues for me.... the equipment is never (that I can see) lubricated so isnt as free moving as it should be. The toilets are a joke, in the mens there is one sit down toilet that is disgusting and not fit for purpose and has been the same since I have been going. The showers are dirty most of the time and water is slow to drain so it just leaves a mess for the next person. The lockers are also too narrow to fit a gym bag in but I can live with that. Overall I would say Puregym is OK, I would happily pay double the price for a better gym with less people but I am governed by the location.. you get what you pay for. 24hrs access is also a good pull for me

Fantastic experience: kept neat and tidy may need to think about wd40ing some equipment but only just starting to stick, helpful and friendly staff very knowledgeable I would advise getting plus membership especially if you don't like training alone, bring a buddy x4/month included in membership

Negative experience: I started this gym and signed up with a personal trainer called Liam Paton. Throughout our training he cancelled sessions and promised to make up for them. I paid for 2 months worth of sessions and after a month he cancelled for two weeks. Now he is not responding to my texts and obviously is not going to refund my money for the month that he owes me. I think the gym should take more responsibility for the personal trainers working in there. The gym itself is full of youngsters and there is virtually no staff working at the gym. I have cancelled my membership and will join another gym. Not impressed!

Negative experience: Today (Sunday March 3rd) at approximately 1:15pm I received without doubt the worst customer service I have encountered. The lady (who just previously finished teaching a class) came over to me and accused me of being a Personal Trainer when all I was doing was innocently working out with a friend who just happened to want to train with me as I have a bit more experience. She accused me (and her colleagues who apparently complained, one of whom kept glancing over) of doing a consultation with him in the seated area but all I was doing was socialising!!! She also said the cameras were examining me and suspicious. Ok then show me evidence of me being a Personal Trainer!! Absolutely disgusting and everyone involved should hang their head in shame. Staff member concerned was Lucy Carpenter I believe who just completed the class and others were accusing me unjustifiably.

Negative experience: Mens shower and toilet area continue to be poorly maintained and dirty. If you're in the shower for more than 2-3 minutes you notice they are slow draining.

Negative experience: It's just too busy. Sure it's cheap but you can never use any equipment because it's always just too rammed. Even during "quiet hours" it's impossible.

To make the most of the space where possible, though, we are always looking to expand and improve our facilities. Negative experience: Parking fines. You get access to the carpark for 2 hours if you enter your registration in at the gym, each and every-time, without any mistakes. Sounds easy right?! Mostly its fine but every now and then… FINE. £100 reduced to £60 if paid within 2 weeks, £20 admin fee if you type your registration number wrong. Personally this setup doesn’t work for me. I feel like it could be automated. PUREGYM knows when we visit the gym, they know what our registration numbers are. Come on guys, you’re clearly tech savvy with automated doors, apps and late night sirens for intruders etc. Maybe work something out with Euro Car Parks? Guess that would mean ECPs would get less fine revenues though… Oh and your regular members (who actually use the facilities) might stay. Better to have loads of subscribers who don’t go than a few that do. Oh yeah and please remove whatever died in the men toilets. It absolutely reeks in there! I’ve had enough, I quit.

The car park is operated by a third party company in which we do not have any affiliation with. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to cancel such tickets. Information regarding parking is available on the home page of any PureGym which offers parking. The correct parking procedures must be followed, to avoid a parking ticket. We would always advise that you appeal the fine and explain the circumstances. If you get in touch with Member Services, we can also provide you with an appeal document which will be an official letter from PureGym Head Office, stating that you are a member of PureGym and your attendance log for the date in question, will also be provided as proof to show you were in the gym. Although we cannot guarantee they will cancel the fine, we do hope for a positive outcome. Thanks, PureGym

Negative experience: See the condition of the mens toilet, unacceptable at all, workout area is clean but toilet and changing area is horrbile. Seems like staffs are not doing inspection even though they are at gym most of the time, this i not the first time i have noticed this since January @pure gym health and safety standards??

Positive experience: The toillets smell sometimes, they need to increase staff for cleaning, that s my point and to put some reed difusers somewhere in the area… SO THE GUYS WORKS PROPERLY TO CLEAN BUT PLEASE PUT SOME DIFUSSERS IN TOILLET , smells to hard urine , very good staff also , friendly , i can leave 5 stairs but … toillets smell for the moment ! Positive experience: Never been. Cycle past it everyday on the way to work. By all accounts it's very busy and the waiting time to use equipment can be a lengthy one.

Fantastic experience: Good value for money local gym. Parking is usually pretty good. Plenty of equipment and never really too busy. Sometimes the gym is a little warm but who doesn’t like breaking a sweat.

Negative experience: Please put your parking register at the front door not out of sight in the stair well. Better still link the membership entry with a car registration of the member - extremely easy to do for PureGym, but since this would prevent Euro Car Parks being able to scam and fine members I expect it won't get done.

Positive experience: Overall, this gym is the best in Chelmsford given the price. For a budget, contract free gym, the equipment is surprisingly wide ranging and high quality, including: fixed and plate loaded resistance machines (most of which are iso-lateral), excellent functional kit such as the dip station, multiple chin up stations with various grips, a glute ham station, a decline bench press (rare in a budget gym), four squat racks and four dual cable stations (two narrow and two wide). The dumbbells also reach 50kg, which is unusual for a 24/7 access gym. There are two points which prevent this gym from being perfect for members. Firstly and most importantly, there are no mirrors behind two of the squat racks, which makes most free weight exercises challenging and potentially dangerous. Correcting this would enable members to perform popular exercises such as squats, deadlifts and bent over rows across four racks, instead of two, which would reduce waiting times to use this equipment safely. Secondly, there is no seated calf raise machine, and so the soleus muscle can't be trained properly (although the standing calf raise machine does allow for effective training of the gastrocnemius muscle).

Fantastic experience: Excellent gym with almost all gym facilities. Has wonderful air conditioning and is very well laid out. I really enjoy working out in this gym and the staff is very helpful for beginners like me who may have questions. Highly recommended.

Positive experience: Easy access 24 hours a day. Looks big from the outside but can feel quite cramped. Resistance training gear is kinda limited outside your typical squat racks and benchs

Positive experience: It's ok... Very small so it feels especially busy even when it isn't particularly. Hygiene standards/enforcement is laughable. Standard puregym equipment. Good for a substitute gym while you're working away but definitely wouldn't be my regular.

Negative experience: I signed up for the Plus Multi-Access and went to the branch in Maldon. It wouldn’t let me in. I checked the list of gyms I had access to and this gym was not included - this was my mistake I must admit. Still, a disappointment. Why pay extra when I can’t use the one other gym I’d be interested in? To further complicate matters I received an email from the Chelmsford gym saying I should upgrade my membership to access the Maldon gym. I found this quite insulting after I had paid to do just that. Is Maldon included in the Plus Multi-Access membership, or isn’t it? You need to make up your mind. I have already cancelled my membership and will be using a different gym, but perhaps it could be worth sorting this out so that it doesn’t confuse anybody else.

Fantastic experience: Busy but not ridiculously. It is clean, with friendly staff and patrons, and great tech solutions used effectively. Parking is excellent. Gear is new and there is a good selection. Has cleaning stations for covid, which most people do actually use. Water fountains on both floors. Great touchless entry with the app.

Fantastic experience: Quite spacious gym and excellent equipment, it fills up very easily but I think it depends on the limitations of Covid-19. Free parking for 2 hours and no time limit for training. Really correct quality and price. I recommend it

Fantastic experience: Love this gym. It has free 2 hour parking, 2 floors, a lift is available if needed. It has plenty of classes, and loads of equipment. If you use the app, you can see how many are in the gym live. I've been going since it opened last April. It suits me perfectly, oh and it's 24/7
