Negative experience: Didn’t get to use it at all in August because it burned down.
Dear Marcelo Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are sorry that you have been unable to use the gym since the 7th August. Unfortunately, as you mention in your review, we had a catastrophic fire on the morning of Sunday 7th of August that destroyed the Acorns building, which was completely out of our control. The impact of this distressing event was colossal, leaving our building devastated, several small businesses without premises and people unemployed and our members without their community hub. This is an extremely sad and distressing time for all involved. However, it is very much our wish and intention to be able to run our club again in the future from the current location and to this end we want to make every effort to keep the Acorns community alive and kicking.
Negative experience: Dirty gym and pool facilities
Dear Little Witch, Thank you for taking the time to post a review, we are sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience. At Acorns we have always had a consistent daily cleaning routine in place therefore believe this to be a very unusual experience. Acorns was a beautiful club and a greatly valued community hub where staff and members enjoyed coming to each day. If you are indeed a member at Acorns, you will undoubtably be aware of the devastating fire that took place on Sunday 7th August that completely destroyed our building and as a result we are now closed

Positive experience: Excellent Sauna & Jacuzzi. Nice staff. Because it's a private club you are going to pay more. Now, this can be an issue compared to prices offering the same service, and facilities. It's a amazing place. My only observation, I think there should be separate prices for the sauna & Jacuzzi. Price is a little expensive but private clubs do charge more. However charging more can see this amazing club changing hands too often.

Positive experience: I have been a member here for over 4 years and joined as they have a creche attached to it (which you pay for separately) meaning I could put my baby in there and workout or go to a class. They have a great range of classes, lovely warm swimming pool and a bar area to get a drink/food afterwards. The staff work really hard and in my experience are very friendly. The only thing that could do with an upgrade really is the showers but they do the job so I'm not that bothered. We chose to use Acorns to host my husbands 40th party recently and it was a fantastic night and went perfectly! Everyone had such a good time and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend Acorns as a function facility and private gym especially if you are a mum needing some 'me' time.

We are very lucky to offer a creche facility with Copthorne Kinders, they support short time paid care while you are using the gym/pool etc, which is fantastic if you are a busy mum. We have also just purchased some new highchairs, so hopefully you can bring your friends and toddlers to the club and enjoy the club lounge after your workout too. Positive experience: Probably not worth the hefty membership fees, but this is an independent gym so pricing is understandable. What's not understandable is the staff mentality - bit standoffish and make it feel you've inconvenienced them to walk from their social engagement at the bar to scan my card. Rather scan the card myself and skip the rudeness. The equipment works and does what you need to do, few new running, row and cycle machines. Plenty of weights around, even in busy times if that's your deal, though no room at the mirror from all the skinny legged dudes checking themselves out. My biggest issue is the pool and their schedule. Seems as a member you get about 2 hours a day to use it at odd hours. The rest of the day is booked with "Family Time", swim lessons and other activities meaning you can almost never use the pool, with the narrow window, every member uses it and once you get three people swimming, there's no room - it's incredibly frustrating.

I apologise if there was a function on and your arrival was not acknowledged as quick as should have been. All our staff work on the bar and reception and will switch between the two when needed. We try to welcome everyone with excellent customer service, again I apologise if on this occasion it didn't happen as normal. The pool again we try to accommodate all from adults to families, in family splash time you may still use the pool. We can advise you of the best times to use the pool if you wish. Fantastic experience: Club is a very friendly . Great bar upstairs after a hard workout lovley Atmosphere. Pool nice and modern and right depth for classes. Just all round lovley club. Squash tennis and fully equipped gym oh and forgot food aswell.

Negative experience: The manager women was disrupting our sparring session and told us to leave because she needed to mop when the gym was shutting in 2 hours so we left and came back 2 mins later and she was behind the bar and the mop wasn’t in the studio and were made to leave again when we went to spar in the squash court for no apparent, bad customer service
Dear Leo, sorry to read about your experience at the club. The boxing bag in the studio can be used for training and exercise, but sparring is not an exercise we promote at Acorns. Cardio training can be done in the gym and boxing training on the bag in the studio. I apologise that you were asked to leave the studio but if we deem the exercise to be dangerous we have the right to ask you to stop. Negative experience: Paid for a membership only to be kicked out for using the boxing gym certain members of staff abuse their power and are rude to paid members

We do reserve the right to ask members to leave the studio if we see anything unsafe or dangerous. Negative experience: Not family friendly at all and very rude staff.
Thank you for your review, we are so sorry to hear that your experience was not up to the usual high friendly standard we normally provide everyday at Acorns. We do take health and safety of our members very seriously and if we see something that may cause harm or danger we will react and highlight this danger. Unfortunately, the use of the pool area with children must be kept to a safe level and the aqua dumbells are to be used only for aqua classes, not for children. We have now put signs up to advise our members of this. We apologise if you feel we were a little swift reacting to your pool use as seen on our CCTV, however, the safety of the pool area is paramount to us. Negative experience: Can't really recommend this gym/pool. Starting prices are insanely high, not only do they lock you into a 12 month contract but they also charge a joining fee. Staff are either clueless or rude, gym equipment are outdated and the pool is tiny and divided into 4 lanes. You can get much a better experience and value elsewhere.
Hi Robin. Thank you for your feedback. We’re disappointed that you’re not happy with the club or service you received. We operate in a way that ensures everyone who comes into the club is welcomed. Our joining fee is standard like most gyms and also includes a welcome pack worth over £85. We do also offer a flexi 1 month contract if you didn’t want to do a 12 month contract. Negative experience: Does not allow nonmembers to pay to use the facilities with out becoming member or being with a member. Very out dated policies, time to update them . We are now in 2021 .

Negative experience: Member for long time-years.But for the last year facilities went down on quality and I do believe that the managment is not what I would like to see from quiet "expensive" gym. For long time no swimming pool,no discount on member fees while closed, on numerous occassion not even hot water.Afrer reopening the pool my memberships fee went £10 up. During Covid19 closure, have to still pay memberships fee (freeze fee) or if I would cancel as I dont want to pay for nothing for 4 months!!! I would need to pay re-joining fee even after all these years. I am also very disappointed with the communication with customers as I have been told over the phone they will be informing about updaes but never heard from them...if i knew I'll ne paying this amount of money for bothing for this long,I may as well left or chosen different gym afterwards. Disgraceful.
Negative experience: Bunch of unprofessional and unprepared staff,they are closed and obviously I tried to freeze my membership,is no point to pay if they are closed and one of the guys said I have to pay 10£ a month ......for what???and I went there discussed with a manager and she was agree to cancel without any other fee .Today I recived an email to set my direct debut back,I called them and they canceled my membership again .Later today another 2-3 emails asking for other fees .This people are unbelievable,plus one of my friends had his car damaged by some guy who is working there or is some friend with the staff ,when police ask them for video proof they ,,deleted’’ by mistake the video.Just think what kind of people are they :)

Positive experience: Went along on Thursday morning for a swim, was a little surprised to the amount of stairs and corridors for such a small place. i did feel very closed in, the pool is also very small, more to relax in then work out in. The shower cubical's are clean but the water was very cold, i went back to the hotel to warm up.
Positive experience: Friendly club but run by management who aren't willing to take onboard genuine feedback from members. I've been a member for over 3 months now but now getting a second membersip at Nuffield and will use this club only for squash. Membership fees are not exactly low in relative terms and certainly don't match up to the value (lack of) you get in return. Men's changing rooms and showers are in terrible state. Showers are all open with no privacy, no changing rooms, most of the showers don't mix water properly. Don't think this part of the club as seen any improvements since it was built in the 70's. With the right management the club has the potential to do so much better.
Positive experience: Gym is too small for the number of members. There is also always, at least one piece of equipment out of order. Took them nearly 2 months to fix one piece last year. Sauna, steam room and pool same story, usually one piece out of order on any given day.

Negative experience: What a waste of my money... gym is about 10 years past a refurb date. Pool and steam room were refurbished about 6 months ago and the steam room stinks of urine already. Sauna is warm at best 50% of the time I've visited and nobody seems bothered about it at all??? Pay a little more and go to nuffield instead

Positive experience: Theres various classes in the rooms by reception, mainly fitness ones. There's an entrance area with a reception, bar, pool table and waiting couches where you can watch sports. The entrance area is up a couple flights of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Its a recommendation place if you want a place to play squash as the rooms are very clean and quiet.
Negative experience: Good gym, sub standard sauna and steam room.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for the past month. The staff at the reception are very friendly and helpful. Intro to gym was very good also - and the classes are great! There is sauna - steam room is being built at the moment together with swimming pool. Look forward to using all facilities! Great little gym!

Negative experience: After being given a weeks notice of the pool closure it transpires that the work has been put back for four weeks. What faith can we have that this time it will close at the end of August, or is this wishful thinking on behalf of the Directors. Let’s wait and see, no alternative provision for swimmers to go elsewhere during this period. Not good if you only swim. However Nuffield are offering great deals worth checking them out .

Positive experience: I joined the gym and used the pool once and the gym once. All in all I had a positive experience. The gym and pool is a bit tired Including showers but for the price Its acceptable. My biggest complaint about acorn is thier online booking system which doesn't work. I joined this gym to use classes and it just didn't work. I mentioned it at reception and got told it would work the next day- it didn't. My other complaint is there is no floor space in the gym. They also hold classes in the gym which is quite off putting. I emailed my notice and cancelled DD and haven't had anyone even contact me to discuss my experience. Really frustrating

Negative experience: Joined this gym whilst at uni on a 3 month student deal. The overall gym is tired and very small, although most gym equipment is here if you are paying full price for this I would expect more. The machines and weights are worn and when your here during a time when it's busy you'll struggle to move. They also host what looks like classes in the middle of the gym so if you like to use the floor for ab work, you'll have to wait until they are done. The changing room facilities are also in need of a revamp. They have enough lockers but the showers and toilets are quite disgusting. When showering don't expect to have any privacy as there is no separation just shower heads lined up in rows, almost like going back to school. As far as using the toilets they were tired and always had some sort of odour especially the urinal. However the staff always seemed friendly and were happy to help, the bar always looked nice and if you like something after your workout, there are protein shakes on offer. I'm giving it two star due to what you get for your money and also the fact that my student 3 month membership did not actually mean 3 months as they will automacally renew your contract unless you state a month before. They do this with every membership so be warned as I was not. Probably won't be going back

Positive experience: As a member I see the ups and downs of this place. The staff and social aspect of the gym is the main winner in my eyes. So friendly and always up for a giggle. The food and drink is great at the bar too. Equipment is clean and tidy. However the thing that currently lets this place down is the overall age and appearance. It's a but tired in places with tiles missing in the steam room, dirty floors in the changing rooms and showers, the swimming pool area is also a little lacking in a little TLC. Good value for money if you choose the right membership though.
