Mountbatten Centre

Positive experience: Was just watching grandson at his swimming session. Cafe is currently being renovated, so cafe and some tables I foyer, making that quiet busy area.

Negative experience: There is no cap on how many people can join, so the gym is ridiculously busy at all times. Also no cap on age, so it’s full of kids who really shouldn’t be touching weights yet. Can’t do a full workout here as it’s hard to grab a machine/ weights.

Fantastic experience: I have a membership here, it's great for swimming and other groups / activitys

Negative experience: The front car park is restricted to 4 hours with NO concessions. Litter and dumped waste is not cleared at all. I have had cause to complain about the toilet cleaning standards on several occasions.

Positive experience: Plenty of free parking and a bargain price for a lane swim (the same operator charges 75p more in Bournemouth). Changing facilities are clean. Lockers are free, but the lock codes can be a bit of a faff. Although this is a 50m pool it seems to be permanently divided into 2x 25m. Pool is clean and good temp with attentive lifeguards.

Positive experience: Have only used the pool but great. Lifeguards are also really good as they aren't afraid to tell people to switch lanes if they're not swimming at the appropriate speed. Front desk are friendly.

Positive experience: A great facility for the local area, however it is now looking a little tired

Negative experience: I like working out in the corner and when instructors are bringing clients it’s like they don’t know what spacial awareness is which makes it very uncomfortable. If you have set times then build in a new area designated for clients only?!

Fantastic experience: After an evening shoreline bike ride it was great to find the lower coffee restaurant was open… Then to receive such a warm and inviting welcome from Paul was lovely. He made an excellent cappuccino with a smile and good humour. It really made a change to find somebody who enjoys his work and customer service. Will definitely be back for another coffee on my next shoreline bike ride…☀️☕️

Positive experience: The pool is nice and big. It's also not freezing.

Positive experience: Great local swimming pool with plenty of activities for the kids, a little pool to for younger children but can often become over run with older children.

Negative experience: Anyone can walk into this pool and watch small children shower and change in the unisex changing rooms. No one monitors devise usage, so anyone can take pictures and use them for sordid means. Its a massive safe guarding concern. I'm shocked by the lack of security. Swim lessons were expensive and classes were big, £27 for 30mins sharing one teacher. Its not worth it.

Negative experience: Very disappointed the way staff behaved when my 8 year old kid was bit nervous when he got in to Aqua dash session. The lady was yelling very bad at my kid when he was so nervous in the pool, when there was no any kid behind the lane. Very rude behaviour and iam very upset. Will never visit this place again. Reception lady Tabbie( thats her name I guess) was very nice and spoke very politely and gave us refund.

Negative experience: My experience was quite shocking to be honest with you. the short old looking guy in the cafe was extremely rude towards me and made me feel very uncomfortable the entire time i was there giving me dirty looks as i was sipping my coffee and was being quite rude towards me when i ordered. This has made me really uncomfortable to go back which is a shame as i use to love going Mountbatten all the time but now i am worried if i see him again he wont just be rude to me. Fix your staff. No one should be made to feel physically uncomfortable on a day out with the kids

Positive experience: They are just about to introduce parking charges in August. Beware!

Negative experience: Staff all very helpful. But there have been too many days of the lift breaking down, which means access to gym for wheelchair users is impossible. Been caught out with lift being out of action too many times.

Positive experience: Love the aqua classes but would be better for me if there was somewhere to put my stick next to the pool, I have poor balance and have to rely on others to get it to me at the end of the class. Much cleaner than it used to be.

Positive experience: We swim here fairly regularly. Not bad, but nothing exciting unfortunately. Biggest issue is that a lot of the lockers are often unusable due to them being 'locked', but open.

Positive experience: The toilets were in a terrible mess. It states they are checked hourly. That I doubt very much. Loose toilet seats.

Positive experience: As a disabled user I was disappointed to find most of the disabled parking spaces had non blue badge cars in the disabled spaces. I spoke to the staff on site but all they did was shrug their shoulders.

Positive experience: Wet and wacky swimming session, very reasonable Changing facilities aren't the best, but the centre is otherwise good.

Fantastic experience: Used pool, clean changing area and cubicles, easy to book online and then check in. Plenty of parking too.

Fantastic experience: I visit every day except Sunday. Exercise classes are excellent, fulfilling my expectations which makes me return. New showers and the centre is undergoing major work on the main roof.

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time joining this place. swimming pool always closed the gym is rammed all the time the showers and toilets are disgusting and the staff are a bunch of kids that couldn’t organize a piss up in a brewery, go somewhere else as the facilities you pay more for here are never in use. Fantastic experience: The pool is great , gets busy at some times but always good and a lifeguard is on watch all the time. Gym.is well-equipped, steam room / sauna are nice as well.

Positive experience: The lockers do not need you to use money which is useful. Changing rooms a bit small as are the showers. I recommend showering at home. The kiddie pool is seperate which is nice and lots of nice toys for the pool. Staff really pleasant and friendly. The pool is really warm inside...avoid sitting in stalls as the heat is immense. Bit of a lack of water fountians. There are two vending machines which are just empty? And the other one is really slow. They also serve only cheese and baked beans toasties (not great for feverant avoiders of baked beans).

Positive experience: Good swimming pool . Great instructors. Problem with youths outside facility. Need to sort out your CTV as not working and there is damage to peoples cars on a regular basis.

Negative experience: Joined only wanted to swim , they refuse to let you swim for more than 1 hours , lifeguards will always turn up late and you will only get 50 minutes swimming , I was told I was making too much splash and was then told I was swimming too fast in fast lane , im not joking and they said they had complaints from people I was getting them wet and basically they then terminated my membership due to complaints !!!! Im not joking ... would I recommend the place , think you know what im going to say

Positive experience: Brilliant facility but it suffers from usual council stuff like lack of pool sessions due to lessons, changing rooms look tired etc.

Negative experience: That was the first and the last visit to the pool. Filthy is understatement! Changing rooms are absolutely disgusting. Noone ever pick the phone up. Ladies at the reception could do with some customer service training.

Positive experience: No problems with the pool, the toilets are still not working properly and I find that if you want to ask a question online you will have a very long wait before it loads up properly, but it takes seconds to book an activity

Positive experience: It's a good place to go. The Floats And Fun were enjoyable. Although at one point everyone had to get out of the pool because of some rule breaking by others. But the lifeguards sorted that out. Instead of soaking your watch or continuously getting out to check the time, it is displayed on the wall. There are even hair dryers when you finish, along with lockers! But for the workers, please unclog those toilets.

Positive experience: Very expensive, Gym The gym membership is a cancellation service with fees attached to it, BH Live offer a high price service of a gym sauna steam room and pool usage for £42 a month plus joining fees as well as cancellation fees on top, The gym equipment is high tech lots of treadmills and cardio machines. But if you’re there for free weights and benches this is where you’ll Suffer although the boast of cardio Machines is high the free weight area is tiny and can only fit one or two people at a time. The areas are clean and tidy and gym equipment is looked after.

Negative experience: Filthy toilets and changing rooms. No improvement in the last 3 years, it's just got worse and worse. I've used cleaner toilets in India!

Negative experience: No one ever picks up the phone, tried to cancel my membership, so stopped the DD, they then all of a sudden contact me and charge me an extra £15 for doing so the website is all about signing up and its to hard to try and find a section about canceling it. the place need a good clean, the showers and locker rooms are horrible

Fantastic experience: Popped in for a coffee this morning, it was my first visit and i was very impressed with the service from the ladies behind the counter, they were very welcoming and friendly especially the young lady who served a delicious flat white along with a lovely smile. Looking into popping in again to take a look around as thinking about becoming a member.

Negative experience: I was a member here, if you're just using gym then def good value. However, swimming pool is a nightmare. Always crowded, private changing rooms are dirty, not cleaned over weekends. Showers are old and dated and never clean. You can't swim if there are meets or relays going on. Timetable can be restrictive if your working full time.

Negative experience: Got booked in to wrong session when Lane swim was clearly cancelled last night yet we were allowed to book in to VERY CROWDED swim area. Uninterested staff by pool who couldn't care less. Manger standing over in a stance with hands on hips unapproachable wrong attitude. Visiting area for week end so disappointed with how over all visitors are treated

Fantastic experience: Awesome place to relax and do indoors...hot tub,sauna,swimming...gym on the top floor..lots of different classes, badminton and many more...I got membership:)

Negative experience: The steam room has been out of action for months. Men have had no private showers for weeks, having to use public ones. Timetables on the app and website are often wrong. When events are held and the pool is closed, members are not notified, staff response to this is "you should have been", same response every time. Kids run wild and often hang around in the sauna area swearing, phones out, annoying other members. Rarely are the men's facilities cleaned. Instructors often do not turn up for classes, at short notice. Edit, steam room was fixed. It's now broken again. Rarely does it work. Edit, edit: Things have not improved, the newly fitted men's changing room is now dirty, rarely cleaned. Most gym equipment is worn out, the Smith machine stability bars don't prevent the weight falling, BE WARNED, THE SMITH MACHINE IS NOT SAFE TO USE. Sadly, the centre pays no attention to member feedback.

Positive experience: I visited the Mountbatten centre as a swim parent at a meet. Easy to get to. Great parking right by the centre, plenty of spaces. Poor toilet facilities: only two unisex toilets in cafe area, one out of order, hunted for another option, first I found had no toilet paper, second I found had a badly fitted seat (wrong size), and the cubicle was in semi darkness. I walked all over the building to find them. Good viewing gallery, not many seats but fine for this gala. Temperature and humidity were comfortable. No 4G in the gallery where I was but the WiFi was pretty good . The pool looked good. My daughter said the water was too warm for racing.

Positive experience: The pool is alright, even if it is always divided in 2 and never full depth or 50m length. The price is comparable to others in the area. The changing rooms are always filthy, staff don't care. Non enforcement of the "no outdoor shoe" rule would appear to be the problem. Changing facilities are basic and a bit tired. Some lockers seem permanently locked, possibly regulars keeping them "reserved"?

Fantastic experience: My lifeline for exercises. The pool is way too cold. Temperature has definitely been dropped. I used to sim every week. It's too cold now

Positive experience: We went to this pool for the Portsmouth Northsea Swimming Club competition over Easter 2023 and it may be slightly different at other times. Nevertheless the centre offers a 50m pool with 8 lanes and blocks at both ends. The lane ropes were in good condition and well tightened. Apparently the adjustable floor mechanism in the main pool is broken and the depth is set to 1.35m which is very shallow. It seems the boom is also faulty but can be raised manually. There is a second pool which was used for warm down. However, this was extremely shallow and not suitable. On the whole the facilities appear tired and in need of renovations. The toilets in particular were poorly maintained and several were blocked/out of use. Staff were friendly but clearly overwhelmed. At various points equipment failed (eg score boards or touch pads) and there was poor communication with centre staff who did not know what was going on. We cycled to the pool and would have liked a protected cycle lane as several cars made close passes as we approached the centre. The car park is also difficult for cyclists to navigate as it was extremely busy. There were some cycle racks outside the centre that were useful. The centre is set in a park and near to some open water which is pleasant. We would go back if we had to but would rather alternate venues if possible.

Negative experience: Very disorganized. Double bookings made. Cleanliness in sports halls leave much to be desired. Good facilities but very badly run

Negative experience: Waste of time and never open to the public when listed open. I have tried plenty of times over the years to go for a swim here and always get turned away as it always has some sort of private occasion happening. If you just want to swim I’d suggest just finding somewhere else to save the disappointment.

Fantastic experience: Amazing amount of facilities on site, not just the swimming pool and gym. Abundant amount of parking available.

Negative experience: Atrocious experience. After taking a free day pass to experience the facilities for me and My family. I witnessed a manager speaking to a customer atrociously, making false accusations of abuse to another member of the public. I witnessed the incident and so did other customers and instead listening to us and checking cctv as instructed by a few members he continued to attack the poor woman who was innocent. It totally put me off joining the center. I definately won't be returning, diabolical treatment coming from members of management not to mention very unprofessional. I'm putting in a complaint as I witnessed the whole event and that poor woman was nothing but respectful and polite. And I don't wish my family to be subjected to the same personal attacks from bhlive members of staff.

Positive experience: I go there for swimming lessons. Water is clean and warm water for showers after. staff are lovely

Fantastic experience: I love Mountbatten Leisure Centre. The staff are amazing and so encouraging to get motivated and to better myself and gain more confidence and self esteem. Due to my disabilities, I really fit in. Thank you for making me feel welcome

Positive experience: Booked to take my daughter swimming in baby learner pool, but it didn't say that there was a lesson do half the pool wouldn't be available during the time making it feel very busy in the half we were in.

Fantastic experience: Great place for all the family to enjoy, swimming, climbing, soft play, and more. There are many layers to this place with lots going on to get stuck into. Also, there is a full-size track and field out the back of the building.

Positive experience: We take our children swimming here every week. The site is always clean and tidy and staff always friendly. The lifeguard and swimming staff take their jobs very seriously when dealing with safety which is great!

Positive experience: Only come here for swimming but there is plenty else on offer. Changing rooms are usually cleaned well. New lockers means no need for coins anymore which is great. Learner pool is good for non/new swimmers and is a nice temperature.

Negative experience: My 15 months old goes there to swimming academy classes, for a year now. The water in the baby’s teaching pool is so cold, my child is having a runny nose and cold after every week!!! We are absent probably every 2 weeks, because I don’t want him to go into the cold water when he is unwell, however by the time he is better we go one lesson the next day he is sick again! It’s crazy! What are you going to do about it? The water should be 32 degrees but it is hardly 30 I believe or worst! Totally unacceptable especially considering the young children!

Positive experience: Good swimming pool. Helpful staff. Showers are very basic and the big pool is quite chilly. You have to book.

Negative experience: The soft play would be one of the best for under 5 age kids as its not that busy than others, BUT the SOFT PLAY IS VERY VERY DIRTY, they not hoover the dust,fluffs, hair everywhere, disgusting inside,both my babies clothes need it to wash after playing.Don't understand how is possible,should clean and sanitise after ecery close!

Fantastic experience: Visiting up and running sports massage clinic. Went into public toilet too find it blocked what a shame love visiting perhaps it was because peak time 4.30 lots of moms and kids

Fantastic experience: First time using this leisure centre. Was very impressed. Clean and tidy. Staff pleasant. Used the small pool with my 6-month-old nephew and sis In law. Was chilly coming out of the pool, but it is -1 atm. Managed to get into the changing room before the large pool finished aqua aerobics lol. Very busy! Will be back soon

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing joined a few weeks back & use on my way home to gosport , Good place to work out & chill , excellent parking , The gym is better than my local ones in gosport & the cafe upstairs actually does a healthy option ie Yoghurt ( Yes Yoghurt ) Just off for a sauna

Positive experience: It's a good place to do activities with kids, swimming, gym etc but facilities are dirty, toilets and shower cubicles are awful, leisure space always have at least one of the rooms out of order. Need those things sorted

Negative experience: Reception staff always greet you with a smile very helpful and polite. However I have been coming here for a couple of months and ever time help my yoga teacher to either sweep the floor pack tables and chairs away, the toilets are disgusting and need a deep clean .I could go on but feel this is not the best way to start what should be a relaxing experience .

Fantastic experience: We recently held our daughters 6th birthday party in the function suite at Mountbatten and the service we received from all the staff was exceptional. From liaising with Trish and Hayley in the events team to needing to borrow a knife from the cafe to cut the cake, nothing was too much trouble. This was one of the very few options we had to hold our party as most venues in the city struggle to host more than 30 kids so if you’re looking for a larger venue, great communication and value for money then we’d certainly recommend the Mountbatten Centre.

Positive experience: Amazing equipment and lovely staff but I tried to bring my son (13 years old) to the gym but he doesn't want to come because some people in the shower area are walking around naked which he doesn't like and is inappropriate. He asked me these people walk around naked and do the same at home infront of there kids.Why are they so disrespectful I had no answer to him.

Negative experience: Became a member 3 months ago. Ive now canceled my membership along with other customers. Swimming pool times have been cut in half. No late afterrnoon sessions anymore. Classes are always booked up and sauna and jacuzzi is always breaking and out of service and the last straw was the steam room now being body temperature with barely any steam enough is enough management don't seem to care when you complain and do very little to solve the problems you pay for. I've now found a much better health center with better services and customer service.

Positive experience: Staff took too long booking you in... The cost of swimming products are too high... Bad service at the restraunts once your order is cooked its not pushed towards you so you have to over stretch... the highchair has a screw hanging out of it and the fabric strap is torn so not safe however the toilets clean and the swimming instructors are very friendly... Staff need a shake up

Positive experience: Loved the family swimming on a Saturday morning but the changing facilities could be improved. Broken baby change tables in 2 of the family changes units so I had to queue for another.

Negative experience: Having to downrate due to poor customer service. Our family tried to go for a swim here on a Saturday afternoon. Online booking forces you to register, and if you've forgotten your password and request an email reset, the email doesn't come. Try to book by phone, no one answers. Go in person, and you're told there's no slots available for over an hour and a half. Go somewhere else: problem sorted!

Negative experience: The equipment isn't very good. Atmosphere is bad. Gets overcrowded and can become overwhelming. Also coffee shop isn't very good food has no nutritional values. Is more of a leisure centre for families with young children. The people who work there aren't particularly friendly although the personal trainers seem to be knowledgeable and friendly.

Fantastic experience: I visited the leisure centre because it was the venue for an exhibition that wanted to attend. Upon entry to the centre I was immediately asked by a member of staff if they could help and I was then promptly shown in which direction I should be walking. The Caffè facilities within the centre are very good with plenty of seating. Also the car parking on site can get very busy but after driving around for five minutes I eventually found an empty bay.

Positive experience: Place is falling to pieces and takes months to repair anything. Ladies showers need a good clean and refurb. Too busy trying to get new members but standards are falling

Negative experience: We went to a Freemasons Ladies Night Dinner & Dance. Obviously we go to quite a few. This was the worse venue we have ever been to. It’s a complete shame, as the people that held the event put a lot of detail in. I think the management at The Mountbatten Center needs to held accountable. The staff obviously wasn’t trained enough, no one was keeping an eye on THE BALL! For starter’s the bar only had one person working at the start of the evening, for a group of about 80 people, it was a warm evening. There was a huge queue. Eventually someone took the initiative to put more staff behind the bar! But that took a long time to arrange. But they obviously weren’t trained enough! They couldn’t even pour a pint, so only one person was allowed to pour drinks. So they all stood back and watch this person struggling. THEN THE FOOD…. Well it was cooked nicely & the soup was delicious, but not hot no.Then the mains was served cold too and the menu said Roast Potatoes to compliment a ROAST Dinner but we had cold deep fried new potatoes with their skins on. Which really didn’t go with a Roast Dinner. I heard later that someone asked for their meal to be zapped in the microwave which a server kindly did, they said it really made a difference and tasted lovely. The deserts was a bought in cheese cake which you would think couldn’t be mucked up. We’ll it was awful! It had a funny texture. With a bit of squirted cream at the side which had dissolved. The actual staff serving were very nice, but sorry to say the management didn’t have a clue on organising. Or maybe there wasn’t any managerial staff there. Someone needs to be held accountable for this terrible service.

Fantastic experience: Booking was easy. The staff are friendly and helpful there's lots to do here I've used the gym in the third floor and both the swimming pools the gym is never packed and is open until 9:30 weekdays and 6:30 weekends the Olympic swimming pool is usually a good temperature and is fun to swim in the training pool ranges between 0.6m-0.9m and my daughter thinks that is very fun there is always a lifeguard watching over the pool

Negative experience: Attended a social sit down to a 3 course meal function, extremely over priced drinks at the bar, cold food served & toilets smelly & stained. Would not recommend this venue for a function.

Positive experience: Nice centre. I use the pool which is a decent size but the lanes are narrow and they don't use the whole pool so on busy days it's not as relaxing as it could be. I prefer to go at quieter times and hope it's not packed otherwise you are trying to avoid knocking other people or being knocked. They don't allow access to the sauna unless you are a member also which is a shame. The cafe could do better on the healthy food options.
