Negative experience: Shocking experience with one of the personal trainers, Toby Holtham. I started training with him in summer and paid upfront for 10 hours. Unfortunately, the sessions turned out to be a waste of time- the trainer had absolutely no interest in my me or my training, all sessions were cut short, he never answered any questions, and spent half of the time on his phone. I decided to stop the sessions and try and find another personal trainer. I informed Toby I no longer want to train with him and would like a refund for remaining sessions. He simply refused saying “he doesn’t have it”. It’s been now more than 4 months and I never got the refund. Shockingly unprofessional and shockingly dishonest.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely Looove PureGym Muswell Hill. It is by far the cleanest Gyms till date, and that matters alot to me. The staff are. Very welcoming and friendly always there to lend a help in hand. Alex the Assistant manager is a very nice, polite and helpful gentleman. Janine The manager at Muswell Hill is so lovely, She is very welcoming whenever I see her. She is also very motivational, She has said on one or two occasions how she like to see women looking after themselves and staying fit which 100% truth. When last at the gym she gifted me and my friend some yummy protien porridge. You can't go wrong with a good bowl of porridge extra bonus it has protien also. I thought that to be very kind of Janine. So to wrap it up and put it in a nutshell PureGym Muswell Hill ROCKS

Positive experience: A nice gym, spacious. 24/7. Good range of machines and equipment. From Olympic stuff to beginner level. However, most members that I see in this gym have poor gym etiquette. Most plates and dumbbells are in the wrong place and members never put it back. Apparently, the staff does refreshes every couple of hours but if you go after hours like me, everything is a mess. Personal trainers are nice and professional, however, some blast their music so loud during classes, actually absurd but kind of funny. The playlist the gym has is a bit outdated and I think they should play energetic music that hypes you up. I'm not asking for heavy metal just please stop playing Dua Lipa's 'Don't Start Now', Justin Bieber's 'Sorry', etc... The gym features two Hydro Massage machines, that are amazing, you can use it for 10 minutes for free a day. Nice selection of drinks and protein bars. If you are a lady, the gym has a section that is a bit hidden for the ones who prefer to train separately from the men, which is always good to have. Overall, it's cheap and close to my house, so can't complain. Also would like to note the area manager Janine is super professional and cares about this gym and the members. Had some feedback about the gym and the following morning instantly replied to my concerns.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Muswell Hill for a few years now and the personal trainers and management are always so friendly they make you feel so welcome! The refurb has made the gym more spacious and better equipment, also loving the new class area! Nice to always come to a clean gym and friendly gym.

Positive experience: It's not too busy, cleaner than other branches. I like here but the killing uphill after the gym makes me hesitate to visit here... And hope they have a bit more interesting classes too.

Negative experience: Personal trainers / yoga instructors are fantastic. It’s a decent gym if you are local. The ‘manager’ however brings the place down though. Very rude and has some kind of superiority complex going on. Clearly no idea of how a gym works. I have no idea why they let somebody like that work at a GYM… if you know what I mean. Would make a better restaurant manager. Does not really make for good advertising!!

Fantastic experience: Back after a year long hiatus... Refurbishment carried out well, everything looks fresh. There is better use of the space and more equipment has been added. Male changing rooms used to be too big, now they feel a little crammed.

Fantastic experience: I come to PureGym Muswell Hill regularly and find the staff here super, kind and helpful. I come mainly to see my PT, Maya Ris. Maya is an exceptional trainer, and trust me I have had a few over the years. She is highly empathetic with a passion for physical fitness and holistic well being. She is super experienced and intuitive and I find our sessions to be educational, tailored to my development, progress and goals. Maya is flexible, realistic and motivating. I have made enormous progress in my overall health and well-being and this is largely down to Maya’s support and guidance. I can’t recommend her enough. She’s excellent and fun train with. Thank you Pure Gym Muswell and thank you to Maya

Negative experience: While at the gym today one of the PTs, I believe her name is Charlie Bishop, not for the first time had the music on at absolutely ridiculous levels. Definitely impacted my session and other gym goers. She comes across as down right rude, entitled and zero respect or consideration for anyone else. I genuinely do not know how she gets away. Clearly the management team at the Muswell Hill gym are doing little management - please address this matter as myself and quite a few other members of the gym have serious issues with this and the extreme noise levels.

Positive experience: You get what you pay for. I don't use the gym much because being harassed by sweaty men wanting to use the equipment isn't my favourite hobby. I go to the yoga (the yoga teachers are all brilliant) and body pump type of weight classes with Maya (very effective training). I've tried a few other classes and some of the instructors were just downright rude, which may motivate some to exercise but it makes me want to just walk out and never come back.

Positive experience: Good amount of both resistance and cardio equipment. Excellent staff. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the ceiling is a bit low so if your over 6ft you can't do standing overhead exercises.

Fantastic experience: The repair was very good, it has more space, is better distributed, safer and more accessible, the bathrooms are very good, and better distribution.

Negative experience: I've been a member of PureGym for a while and generally enjoy the experience. However, my recent visit to this Branch, Muswell Hill was extremely disappointing. I encountered unprofessional behavior from a staff member ‘Manager’, a very rude behaviour. This experience has made me hesitant to return, NEVER AGAIN to this branch. Not even worth giving 1 star.

Negative experience: Worst gym management ever, will not ever use this branch ever again.

Positive experience: The upgrade looks promising. Still a long way to go. Generally, I like this gym, but not my favourite.

Negative experience: They've managed the miracle of shrinking the men's locker while 'expanding' the gym. You can't have more than 3 or 4 adult men sitting/changing in the locker now/ Loads of lockers across the gym but unless they want us to change in the middle of the floor, this is absolute ridiculous. Add that to the expansion work that has been going on for the past 6 months (more?), I would recommend this gym for those wanting to workout in a construction zone. Actively searching for another option in the area.

Positive experience: Longer classes, and more Boxing

Negative experience: The gym is dangerous. I know a partially sighted lady who cannot go anymore because equipment is just left everywhere to trip over. Look at this photo - hopefully this guy doesn’t stumble or fall backwards. He’d suffer a serious injury. The management have been asked to make it safer numerous tomes but they don’t seem to care.

Fantastic experience: Huge!!!

Negative experience: Good gym and equipment, some PTs are lovely, though some aren't. Gym gets too crowded and managers are not friendly, witnessed people get told off for the most stupid things.

Positive experience: Average decent gym. No frills a tad bit expensive but good overall

Positive experience: The gym is a strange layout but generally quite tidy with good availability of machines and free weights. The showers are really cold though and I hate using them!

Fantastic experience: I like the facilities and staff are cery friendly

Positive experience: PureGym is really utilitarian... strip away all the stuff you can possibly remove that isn't absolutely necessary and you get PureGym. To be fair, this place is pretty large. The selection of equipment for the fee you pay is very good. But the equipment is just "ok". These machines I imagine are the most basic you could buy. For example, the leg press is something I'd expect in a cheap home gym. The weights area is decent. People don't put equipment away or when they do, they stow it haphazardly. I guess it's what you'd expect at this price range. Equipment isn't as old and worn as some reviews said, but it isn't the kind of quality that will last long. Already some kit looks warn even if not old. The changing room is super basic and half the men's lockers don't seem to work properly. The closing mechanisms bend and are fidgety, which means they can get stuck and so several have been obviously forced open. I'll probably keep coming here because it's one of the few gyms near me and it's open most hours and serves a need. But it isn't the kind of place I look forward to going to.

Negative experience: Facilities are decent but temperature control is awful. They blast the heater on upstairs so that it’s too hot to workout and the showers are terribly cold.

Positive experience: If I compare this branch at Muswell Hill with some other gyms around here, this is what I can say.Pros:Lots of rooms, lots of cardio, a decent number of machines, free weights, and squat racks. Overall clean. Open 24/7.Cons:AC seems off, plates and dumbbells are scattered everywhere (no respect from users), and very crowded by troops of young guys (something like 90% of users on a Saturday afternoon). Some are nice obviously, but it can be intimidating for other users, and very frustrating when they are loud and not tidy with equipment (Please put tour plates back). I know it's a commercial gym, and it's really nice to help as much as possible people to practice a sport, but perhaps there is room to lower down the density of users, so the experience could be improved for everyone. Teach people to respect the place. Adding guided machines with loaded plates is one of the core value here. Matrix press for legs and upper body are quite nice.

Negative experience: Grim gym.The worst PureGym I have been to.Full of teenage boys.

Fantastic experience: I must contradict the malicious review left below by a ‘Dr’ Cindy Cohen. You really should know better leaving false and libellous reviews you know are untrue. The staff and PTs are lovely. The equipment is great. It’s clean and friendly. The PT staff are happy and seem always cheerful and enthusiastic. If you had a failed personal romantic relationship with a PT who left it is not pure gyms or the current managers fault. The current manager is professional and caring and polite. I suggest you remove your false review you need referring to the fitness to practice department in Manchester. Please give pure gym a try everyone. It’s clean cheap and well maintained.

Positive experience: Great gym, very convenient location, have a lot of good memebers there, improved a lot since the new management team. Good classes yoga , spin , body conditioning...wish there were more spin and circuit and more evening classes even on the weekends. Shame that the head office is not backing the management/ gym( they trying so hard doing their best to improve the gym where they can) but they had alot of setbacks inc the renovation that pushed back again....Will it ever happen? Dear head office why are you neglecting one of your most prestigious gym?....why are we the only one that haven't had the renivation??we are one of your most expensive gym in the area....we have broken spin bikes they are older than me...at least give us the new and safe equipment if you can't give us the fresh paint and funky lights. Maybe one day when the renovation is done we will have more evening classes even on the weekends as then the gym will attract more memeb n PTs.... Thank you A very old memeber

Fantastic experience: Been going here for over 2 years now. Great gym, friendly atmosphere, clean and good equipment. The only downside is that it can get very busy at peak times, but I use the app to see when it's less crowded and I go then. Open 24hrs as well which is a plus.

Negative experience: Gym has gone down hill and it's overpriced. Lots of young ones just sitting on the equipment taking pictures. Proposed ' Upgrade ' since past 3years has never happened and will perhaps never happen. Upgrade is just used as a marketing tool to get people to join at the higher price than surrounding Puregyms that are less priced. 2 stars are for the PTs.

Negative experience: I used to love this gym, having been a member here for almost 3 years. Promises of a gym refurbishment which hasn't happened, poor management, and high staff turn over. Air con is v bad and there is always a smell in the gym. Groups of young guys hogging all the machines. Murat leaving is the icing on the cake. He was my PT for two years. He will be a massive loss to this gym. My husband and I have both cancelled our memberships

Positive experience: Considering that I’ve rarely had a staff member talk to me during a visit to this gym (call that whatever you want) I shall review based on the equipment, maintenance, tidiness/cleanliness & price. The 2 redeeming qualities for this gym - there’s a decent amount of kit & it’s cheap. That’s it. It’s not clean, it’s always too busy & it’s very badly looked after in my opinion. Would it hurt someone to put the dumbbells where they belong once a week!? It’s probably good value, purely because it’s so inexpensive.

Positive experience: It's functional. Has most of the equipment most people would need. It has an area for running/cardio machines. There is a free weights area and a resistance machine area upstairs. As there is only one of each machine e.g. the peck fly, you do have to wait around at busier times. The staff are really friendly. But truth be told, they really do need to have the upgrade done soon. However, for a local cheap gym, it does the job.

Negative experience: Nobody absolutely nobody returns the weights to the right place it’s so annoying…

Fantastic experience: Great gym, especially since they got way more bumper plates for the Olympic platform. Friendly people. Have been coming here for years and love it.

Negative experience: Super disorganised gym full of people who doesn’t care about putting weights on the same place…

Positive experience: Good equipment, classes are amazing, go when its quieter as with every puregym.

Negative experience: Experienced harassment and homophobia at the gym whilst trying to workout and was bullied out of the gym by a group of men who did not want to share the workout space with a woman. When I went to go look for help from staff, there was no one in the entire facility to help during the staff hours.

Fantastic experience: Spacious gym that is open 24/7. The staff is very helpful,the classes are fun and the the membership is descent.

Positive experience: decent gym and nice staff. some of the equipment needs updating (which i believe is coming soon) but my main gripe is that it seems the heating is always on way too high. I’ve had to end my workout early a couple of times because it’s unbearably hot, especially in the upstairs area

Positive experience: Good gym with plently of equipment so you can't work everything apart from calves. Most pure gyms have the sitting calf raise machine but the one in this gym has isn't very good. If they read this please get the seated calf raise machine it is a game changer.

Fantastic experience: Great value for money and the classes are very good, varied and enjoyable, staff are really knowledgeable and helpful. Love my local gym! :)

Negative experience: Everything is sound apart from the fact they've got a new manager called Janine Roberts who is nasty to members and has history of cancelling peoples memberships and having the same behaviour at other facilities

Negative experience: Not enough machines, run down, dirty, weights poorly organised and fruitcakes doing weird nonsensical work outs on smith machines, squat rack so you can never use it!

Negative experience: The four years I have been at this gym is now the worst. The latest manager has made the arena so terribly toxic many good PT have left. She bullies staff and customers alike and however much I have complained it seems to fall on deaf ears. Her toxicity is so great that she intimidates people with emails of lies. Many many people PT / customers have left because of her The place is filthy and machines old . There are no more pTs left to keep the place open at weekends ! I am leaving and I have found a lovely gym - clean, friendly and wonderful equipment for the same price - don't be scared to move !

Positive experience: Staff are fantastic, super lovely and helpful. But the building itself is old, dank, dark and there's not much open space (outside of classes) for more alternative exercises to lifting and machines. But you know if you're just looking to hit the weights and hop on a tread mill it does the job.

Negative experience: This gym should be charging the same as or less than Puregym Southgate - I was hauled for £9 mor than the Southgate gym - the gym there is better - better layout, friendlier staff, better vibe. You should get what you pay for

Fantastic experience: Clean and tidy with plenty of equipment for all types of people, personally would like to see a few more squatting/dead lifting stations as these are regularly busy. Staff are friendly and keen to offer helpful advice particularly younger people. Saw one trainer help someone avoid strain injuries from squats which is great to see.

Positive experience: Good gym Nice atmosphere

Negative experience: The gym severely lacks in free weights section. The issues start with plates always being in short supply which means having to run around the plate loaded machines and the different racks to fund the next set to out in the bar. There's also very few bumper plates - I think maybe 4 reds and 2 blues? If you wanted to deadlift 200kg use the Ziva plates. If you can find them, that is. There's one bench press. Just one. The bar placement on it is too far back as wrll because the uprights are in a funny angle. You could drag a bench into the power cage, but the benches are bulky and hard to navigate. And the power cages (squat racks) are awful anyway. Very widely spaced pins means you're not likely to get your ideal height, and the pins themselves are very long do unracking heavy weights is complicated. Too much, you'll hit the next row. Too little, you can't walk out your squat. They also face a mirror. Squat racks should never face a mirror. There's only one deadlift platform, sharing with a half rack (which is probably the only sane place in the gym to squat) and a landmine. For comparison, a branch of a competing chain of 24/7 gyms in the area has 6 half rack/deadlift platform combos, and two monolift style bench presses. Shame PureGym wasn't able to keep up.

Positive experience: outdated and not very clean.

Negative experience: It’s old and the location is like puzzle

Negative experience: This gym used to be very good and offer a great value for money, but in the last few months has dramatically gone downhill. Place is dirty, broken items take weeks to be fixed, primal example being the water fountains that remained out of order for a long time. The classes are often overcrowded, posing a health and safety issue. The booking system clearly does not work. I tried to reach out to the Manager to discuss the booking system issue, he was not even bothered to respond. It is a pity, the place was great when run properly. On a positive note, the PE people are all lovely, professional and approachable.

Fantastic experience: Amazing Body Combat class attended. Knowledgeable and extremely professional trainer teaching how to achieve a good stamina and flexibility through an enjoyable and interesting martial arts training.

Fantastic experience: A brilliant local gym, so convenient and always very clean. I have been a member for the last five months and love it. All staff members are helpful and polite. I still haven't tried their classes so it can only get better.

Positive experience: Expecting to have swimming pool. Its a shame such a good gym does not provide SPA facilities in this area. There are other clubs but their prices are much higher and not so reasonable.

Fantastic experience: Safe and comfortable environment. Clean and mostly tidy.

Negative experience: I am utterly shocked with the lack of manners and rudeness from one of Puregym's Muswell Hill staff towards a group of three young girls that attend the gym regularly. He practically expelled them from the gym on 31st March 22, Thursday evening by using vulgar and swearing words on an attempt to discipline them only because the girls were talking and laughing before starting their workout, like any other normal youngsters would do. The girls came back home not able to do their workout after such an embarrassment and shocked with the staff's behaviour, really appalling !!

Fantastic experience: This gym is excellently equipped and always clean. All the staff, in particular Jeremy, are polite, helpful and courteous. Questionable song choices at times.

Positive experience: Better than most Puregyms. Clean showers and locker room. Big area but cramped with equipment. Low ceiling on the lower floor. Great view from the few tiny windows. As typical of puregym, weights are not arranged accordingly.

Negative experience: Too busy, too much unused cardio equipment. Used to be quieter outside of peak times, however now full of kids standing in circles round eachother. Lots of equipment and lockers broken, 1 water tap in the whole gym that's not broken. Not worth "premium" membership
