Negative experience: Spa and gym facilities are the worst in Cardiff. Rusty metal, broken machines, slime in the steam room, cracked tiles in the showers, filthy dirty throughout and some kind of scum on the pool windows that you can't even see out anymore. Really poor and nowhere near the four star venue they promise. Photos show: (1) a 'repair' to one of the machines. They've literally replaced the padding with paint rollers and stapled it back together. (2) the state of the men's toilets which is indicative if the state of the changing rooms generally. (3) the dust inside the gym which is indicative if the dust around the place. (4) peeling paint which is indicative of the tired state the whole place is in. It needs a complete refurb. I regret ever paying the joining fee and last 6 months of membership. Nothing but excuses from the team.

Negative experience: Almost £80 for a spa day and I'm really not sure where that price came from. The dust is so thick on the walls you can see it, the air filters especially in the women's changing room are so full of dust and mould it looks like expanding foam. That is how you catch legionnaires disease. My masseuse asked if I had a massage before, after saying no I think she took that as 'well I don't have to try'. She just put cream on me and wiped it off again and again. Everyone else was talking about the options their masseuses gave them and different oils, I had none of that. There are a lot of niggles I could complain about but the amount of filth and mould was terrifying. The staff and management must look at it everyday, it's clearly been ignored for years. Would NOT go back, not even for free.

Fantastic experience: Incredible first experience. Went to the laguna health and spa on a Sunday at 1pm, the staff were accommodating and explained what I asked well. The gym was pretty much empty and I didn't have to wait for any machines. The free weights were great and the machines were varied and allow you to work your entire body. The cardio floor has plenty of exercise bikes and treadmills, again no waiting. The changing rooms were clean and spacious and the lockers had plenty of room. I tried the pool which is salt water and UV treated so is free of chlorine. It might have been the best pool I've ever used and felt like a spa experience in and of its self. The sauna, which uses eucalyptus oil, was divine, I felt great walking over to the showers after, which were also excellent and powerful with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel available. My only problem was the hair dryer, there was only one. However, since it was quiet it was no problem for me, but I could see it being a problem in the future, but that's only a tiny problem in an overall excellent experience. Would recommend to anyone who likes a quieter gyms and excellent pools.

Negative experience: Do not recommend. Booked a spa trip with my friend. The staff were all friendly and very accommodating, we got there slightly late so accepted we had missed our slot for breakfast but they made adjustments to our treatment time so we could still eat which was lovely. The facilities however were not great. Hot tub out of order, steam room was in almost pitch black, pool water was salty and the pool area was a bit grotty and not very relaxing at all. The relaxation area was nice though. Unfortunately during our treatments, there was a fire alarm. The massage therapists were told to massage through it so the music cut out and we were being massaged to the sound of sirens. After several minutes the alarm didn't stop and they called us out of the treatment rooms before the alarm turned off and we could resume. Overall about 10 mins which we did not get back, either in refund, vouchers or extra treatment time. The majority of the rest of the treatments were in silence as the relaxing music had been cut off by by fire alarm. My friends massage was apparently good but mine wasn't great. In summary, not very relaxing, facilities weren't great and felt run down. Do not recommend.

Our 20-meter pool uses UV filtration, therefore requiring lower levels of Chlorine. A by product of this system is salt, which is completely harmless and most of our guests enjoy it’s refreshing nature, which is similar to seawater. We are committed to ensuring that all our facilities are in perfect condition for our guests, and I regret that you felt this was not the case during your visit. Unfortunately, the fire alarm did go off during your treatment, while the safety of our guests is our top priority, we fully understand how unexpected events like this can interfere with the relaxing experience you were looking forward to. Positive experience: Been a member here for 7 months. Gym is well equipped and not overly busy, although I rarely go at peak times. The pool area is OK, but is tired in places and overall cleanliness needs improving. The changing rooms are also a little tired and cleanliness needs to be improved. Sometimes it’s OK, other times it’s very poor. A few months back there were several weeks without access to the jacuzzi due to mechanical faults, damages to the steam room, out of service showers, out of service dryers, rubble in the swimming pool toilets where you’re expected to be bare foot, and very dirty changing rooms. Members were not kept informed or offered any compensation for the lack of access to key facilities. Poor communication and customer service at that time. Definitely not a premium service for members or a premium facility, but OK for location and price.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this gym on and off for many years - the fact that I keep coming back says something in itself. It has fantastic facilities. I never usually have to wait for anything I want to use or do, even during busy periods. Although the membership fee is not the cheapest, I would say it's definitely worth it if you intend to use the facilities on a regular basis. The staff are always friendly and attentive. I like the extra touches such as the water fountains in the gym and pool and the swim suit dryer in the changing rooms. The weights area is well-stocked with a range of weights, bars and equipment. All the machines function well, are good quality and solid. The steam room is my favourite room of all time. It's especially nice after a long workout. I also like that the pool is UV treated and doesn't contain chlorine.

Negative experience: Sadly we did not have a good experience at the Laguna spa today or in fact the hotel, as a whole. We arrived at the spa for our treatments 20 minutes early to give us enough time to change and complete any paperwork. The treatments we had booked were advertised as 50 minute duration, however we were told ‘on a Sunday it is different and the treatments are actually 40 minutes’ The therapists the called us in over 5 minutes late, despite our early arrival and left the room for far longer than necessary to allow us to get on the bed! Our 50 minute treatment ended up being just over 25 minutes with no reduction no reduction in price. My treatment was advertised as a prescription facial. There was was nothing prescription about it! I was briefly asked my skin type but when I said it changes and I’m not completely sure, I was asked no further questions and my skin was not looked at in any clear light. The treatment room was comfortable but the usual spa scents were not present. Usually you smell essential oils but this was not the case. The room actually smelt of damp. Following our treatment we were taken to a relaxation room where 3 clients sat on mobile phones. One of which was watching football with sound on and one had messages constantly pinging. I do understand this is a lack of courtesy from clients but staff were in and out of the room and took no notice. We later went to find the pool are which is advertised as ‘relax and unwind’ but this was anything but that! The pool was absolute bedlam with lots of people, hen parties & children. The area was dirty, as was the changing area so we decided to leave the hotel for a bit. We had booked into the hotel for a spa break so we later checked into our room. The corridors to our room were grubby, again smelt of damp or old and our room itself was ok but far from the luxury described. I think the main issue is the hotel is dated and in need of refurbishment. We left the room to get a drink in the bar which was nice but our day had been ruined. We were of the same opinion, although we had only checked in 2 hours before, we wanted to go home. We returned to the room, picked up our bags, left the key with a very confused looking receptionist as she had only just checked us in & we left. There is no parking facility at the hotel so we parked in the Ncp car park opposite which cost is £32 to park for 6 hours!!! We did pick up the hotels discount code and appreciate ncp prices are not set by the hotel but it was a bad ending to a bad experience. This day cost is over £300 as a couple which we are sickened by but glad to be home.

As a Sunday Spa Break guest, the treatment entitlement is for a 40 minute appointment. This can either be in the form of a Pevonia Neck, Back and Shoulder Massage or a Pevonia Express Facial and Scalp Massage. The appointment is inclusive of consultation and allows the guest to undress and dress after the treatment. I am sorry for any confusion and will bring it to the attention of our reservations department, to clarify on booking. Thank you for bringing to our attention the use of mobile phones in the relaxation room, this is not the type of behaviour we approve of. We believe in a peaceful and serene environment to best relax. I will address with my reception team to monitor and encourage our guests to a more considerate environment, and ensure there is relevant signage in the area, to prevent this from occurring again. Our pool is open to all our guests and certain days or certain times are busier than others. This might include children or groups of people equally. We are sorry this was not the relaxing experience you hoped for. We have often been praised for the wonderful fragrance emanating from our spa and lobby areas, we are surprised to read this was not the case on this occasion. We are glad you enjoyed your evening drink and Sunday Roast prior to leaving the hotel, but we are very sad you chose not to share your discomforts prior to leaving the hotel, as I am sure we would have been able to change your mind on how good our facilities are. We sure hope you give us another chance to impress you in the near future. Best regards

Fantastic experience: Wonderful spa treatment and 'spa experience ' Attended on sunday with 2 friends, and it never disappoints. (It made up for our room not being ready on time yet again ! Couldnt go to our room until 3.40 ) Laura gave me the best facial ive ever had, so good at her job ! Everything was comfortable and relaxing and very professional. Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend! My partner and I booked the Laguna Spa ‘Relax Experience Spa’ back in October and we were extremely disappointed with the service that we received. We had previously attended one of these packages for a birthday so we thought that we would book another to celebrate my birthday. On attending, we utilised the spa facilities, and although Laguna Spa promises to provide ‘the perfect environment for you to truly unwind and relax’, we were accompanied by an aerobics class which lasted 1 hour during our 2 hour spa use. This aerobics class took up half the pool space and played extremely loud music, which as you can imagine, was not enjoyable. Even when in the steam room you could still hear the noise! The Spa also allowed children which was extremely noisy and did not fit well with their promise of an ‘unwinding and relaxing environment’. We then went and escaped to the ‘Relaxation Room’ before our treatments. We had booked the couple’s treatment room prior to attending and this was not fulfilled and we had separate rooms for the treatment. The massages were only 35 minutes long when we had booked 50 minute treatments as part of the package and one of the ladies giving the treatment was using her phone throughout the treatment which meant she didn’t perform a massage and the light from the phone was extremely distracting. This was extremely unprofessional and I have never experienced such a thing! At £95 pp it was an absolute rip off. After leaving the Spa we became more and more disappointed with the treatment we received and we emailed the spa to let them know our disappointment and to ask for a partial refund for the unprofessionalism and the underwhelming experience that was received on my birthday. They did not acknowledge anything that we said and instead offered us 15% off treatments although we had stated we will not be attending again?! Extremely dissatisfied and for people who have used these facilities multiple times as loyal customers, it is safe to say we will never be back nor will we recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: Excellent customer service by receptionist Laura and PT Ethan, who both worked very hard to rectify a very unfortunate last minute cancellation of our treatments for a spa afternoon due to staff illness. Because we were unable to have our treatments we attempted to stay to use the facilities and have lunch, but the jacuzzi was broken down and the pool area was very busy and not relaxing at all. A closer look at the lounge chairs in the pool area, covered in mould and dirt, we decided to change back into our clothes and ask for a full refund which was honoured very quickly. If you are looking for luxury and relaxation, this isn’t the place. It’s a basic, quite small hotel pool that needs a good deep clean.

Positive experience: A great, quiet gym with very friendly and attentive staff. The only downside being the high amounts of chemicals in the jacuzzi. My eyes were sore for hours after.

Negative experience: My partner purchased a full day package gift voucher for two treatments and dinner, which was worth £130. My first treatment was at 2:00pm, I was on track to arriving on time, when my partner called as he was locked outside the house with no warm clothes and our dog stuck inside alone. Out of courtesy and assuming to be greeted with solutions and compassion to the situation, I called the Spa to let them know I will be 30 mins late as I needed to drop off the keys to my partner. I was immediately met with a passive-aggressive employee stating that their "policy" says if a client is late by 30 mins then the whole booking is cancelled and are not entitled to a refund. After constantly stating that my situation was unforeseen and it is unfair for my whole package to be cancelled, all I was met with was a constant repeat of the policy and not getting any form of solution nor understanding to the situation. I was growing ever more frustrated but realised the woman on the phone was just going to keep repeating the same, so I asked for someone who has more authority to give me a call. Even that initial request was not granted under the pretence that no one was available. After a couple of minutes, the lady finally agreed to let someone give me a call. Time passed, and I changed my plans. As I was told clearly, I would no longer be welcomed for my treatments, I received a call from the Duty Manager of the hotel, Jeremy. Who was polite and well-spoken. He explained that the therapist was booked for the appointment, and it is a cost that will be incurred by the business, and it can not be delayed due to later appointments scheduled. While I do not believe a consumer should be held liable for a Business model that does not allow for risk of clients not being able to make it due to unforeseen circumstances, as a means of compromise I said I can agree to the first 30 mins being cancelled but I should have been allowed to continue the rest of the package. To my surprise, he agreed and said I could do that for sure, and if I come back on time, my next treatment was scheduled at 3. At that point, I couldn't make it back in time . Had the first lady who I spoke to, said I could come in and that my whole appointment wouldn't have been cancelled, this whole situation could have been avoided. Instead it seems she was so set on quoting the policy and enforcing it she didn't take the time to look at mitigating or helping with the situation. It was under her advise of the "policy" (which I am still waiting to see if it exists, as no one has emailed it to me) states if you are late the whole Appointment is cancelled, that I could not redeem the rest of the package. I am now £130 short, did not receive a treatment, and was severely frustrated. All because I drew the bad straw of getting apassive-aggressivee employee who did not want to help or look into the situation. She later denies saying I could not attend the rest of my treatment. What was supposed to be a stress releif turned into a nightmare. Would highly recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Negative experience: Girls trip. Couldn’t sit in the jacuzzi the eye burn was unreal! Strong smell of chemicals. Treatments were shorter than paid for (by 15 minutes) 5 of 6 were happy with the actual treatment. 1 had a really poor full body massage. Showers in the ladies didn’t work. Restaurant food overpriced and after paying for two course we all ended up paying £25+ on top for 1 drink and a dessert!

Negative experience: Left a review 2 years ago which was 5* - new manager joined this year and there was an exodus of staff (none of the original team (perm or trainer) who had been there for years remain, even the cleaner, "like how bad a manager you got to be for the cleaner to leave?"). There are far better gyms in Cardiff at the same price point who have genuinely nice managers that treat customers with respect, dignity and when they get it wrong have the decourum to apologise and say I made a mistake.

Negative experience: It was an alright experience. I had the full body massage but I had to ask to get my feet massaged and she didn’t massage my arms and finished 15 minutes earlier. I’m disappointed. However I would come again for the swimming pool jacuzzi and steam. But not massage it’s too expensive for what it is.

Fantastic experience: Staff are wonderful, so helpful. I don't use steam rooms so was unsure how to arrange and the gentleman on the desk sorted everything. All the staff were so polite to my two boys when i came in to arrange and the spa is beautiful and very clean. Highly recommended, really relaxing and lovely facility, staf make it 5 stars

Negative experience: Ruined swimsuits. My daughter and I attended the spa as a birthday treat for my daughter, but after spending time in the jacuzzi, both our swimsuits were ruined by bleach. When we spoke to the management we were told that we should have worn "Speedos", as these don't bleach in chlorine! The treatments were fantastic, as was the food and service, but the day was ruined along with our swimsuits.

Negative experience: The most terrible massage I've ever had. Several times asked the masseuse that I wanted a firm massage. It was yet more like touching than a massage! She barely massaged my shoulders, neck, and back! She was too lazy to increase the pressure!!! I won't try this place again. This place is not cheap, but do pay extra and go somewhere else. Isn't worth a penny! She didn't even massage my whole body let alone head and face! The only good part was the decoration of the place which was relaxing. Don't even think about trying the massage once.

Positive experience: Myself and two friends got the Relax Spa Experience package. We started with the full body massage, which lasted 50 minutes. All of the masseuses were fantastic, the rooms were very comfortable and relaxing. The relaxation room after was lovely, beautiful view over the park and the trees. The changing rooms, pool, jacuzzi and steam room were all good, everything very well maintained. We had a few hours to enjoy the amenities before afternoon tea (which was ok) in the restaurant. We felt the price reflected the experience, and were happy with the day and what we paid. It was also lovely and quiet, as we went in the morning/early afternoon on a weekday. Would recommend for a group day out.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic swimming pool and gym. Very well equipped with lots of new cardio equipment and plenty of space for free weights. Has a 20m swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room. Which is great post workout! The club also does free towels, which is so handy!

Fantastic experience: I couldn't reccomend Tiffany more!she is obviously an incredibly skilled masseuse. My back has been in a lot of pain from my job and she gave me an incredible massage to relieve the tension. Often massages at spas are more gentle/relaxing which is nice, but she knew exactly what my back needed and really put the work in! Its relieved so much of the tightness and discomfort and I couldn't be more grateful! Thank you so much Tiffany, I hope to be able to come back again

Positive experience: I treated my partner and I to a Spa package which included 2 hours use of the facilities and a 50 minute massage. We were disappointed as the steam room was out of order and having maintenance. There was banging and drilling the whole time we were using the jacuzzi, hardly relaxing !! Members told us that the steam room had been out of use for 6+ weeks, I was shocked to hear that as I had not been advised of this upon booking. It was a shame as the main reason we wanted use of the facilities was for the steamroom. The staff were lovely and we were offered another day pass but for week use only so we will struggle to find the time to attend the facilities in the week as we work. The massage was excellent, the best I have ever had and I will return to have another. We also went for afternoon tea in the restaurant and it was wonderful, the staff were delightful and accommodating. Overall a great day and we would return, shame about the steam room as I would have rated 5 stars.

Positive experience: Laguna used to be a luxury oasis in the city centre but is now rather tired and in need of refurbishment. The changing rooms have seen better days. It can be hard to find a locker sometimes as so many are broken, dirty or permanently padlocked. The toilets were recently blocked for weeks, the showers are coming off the wall and the drains smell. It doesn’t feel like a luxury spa at the moment. Definitely needs a refresh. Please fix the rowing machines as one has been broken for quite a while now leaving only one working machine - which is also quite rough and in need of maintenance..

Negative experience: Great facilities (reasonable to the price and location). Nice people at the reception and in the gym overall. Atrocious communication with manager who unfortunately doesn't respond to emails. Paid for a month... Asked for them to cancel it at the end of the month ( which they said they would) to find out the next month I was charged again... not attending at all. Updated ***Wowwww!!!! Had to change it to 1 star. They took money just now again from my bank for next month and no response from the email I was supposed to send the cancellation request!

Negative experience: We went there a couple of months ago for the full body massage. Reception staff were friendly, but the treatment was not good at all. It was an hour treatment, both myself and my friend we finished a lot earlier than an hour. The room’s soundproof was really weak, the doors outside kept shouting for all the time, it’s not relaxing at all! I told the therapist 3 times I would like stronger massage, and she kept going over the body like rubbing the oil.

Negative experience: More like an all inclusive holiday at Benidorm than a relaxing spa. Purchased a spa package with 2 treatments, lunch and access to the spa. It was open to the public so the swimming pool was packed and the people who had payed for spa packages were left waiting on the sides for people to leave. 30 minutes after arriving an Aqua Fittness class started that was not made aware to us at the stage of booking, the music was very loud and couldn't talk to each other never mind relax. As it was too noisy to sit around the spa area we headed to the relaxation room which was full of people talking, again unable to relax. Lunch selection was poor, and late. The only enjoyable experience was the treatments and I would go back for treatments but definitely not to the spa.

Negative experience: I went there in may 2019 with my friend. The staff was friendly which is why I gave it 2 stars. However the cleanliness of the place is very poor. The relaxation room was dirty, dirt all over the floor, the beds after being used were not changed if they were wet... the staff never checks if he drink dispenser still works - which wasn’t because it was all clogged up with fruit? I had to tell them to give it a clean so we can have a drink?? I was asked to take a shower after my scrub treatment, the shower was blocked up I was standing in water up to my ankle and more, the noise of 5e water going down was still ongoing as I had my second treatment, not very relaxing!! Every footstep is heard in the treatment room and people opening and shutting doors. My friend had dirty towels on her massage table she said there was hair on it and dust!! So yeah, wouldn’t go back there again...

Negative experience: Don't waste your time. Over £65 for a day trip on a hen do with hundreds of other women there for the day on 6 loungers and a hot tub built for 6 people. Pool was okay. Sauna broken. Massage shortened after I was given 10 mins to lie on a bed. Massage was terrible, it felt like she wasnt making am effort, especially when she started tapping at me with one hand to get a water bottle. We were offered a free day trip in the future- I live in Brighton. Plus I didn't even receive this voucher, I would have preferred a refund.

Positive experience: Had a spa day here. The spa facilities were quite small. It felt like the place was overbooked as all the loungers were occupied forcing us to be in the pool. We were not forewarned that we would be subjected to a 45 minute Zumba class in the pool which was very loud and completely disturbing. There were 3 showers by the pool, of which 2 were broken. The relaxation room was very nice and I did enjoy the treatments (although will probably not recommend the foot massage as it was mostly just holding the feet and not really giving them a massage). I recommend: Pop on a 1hr train to Bath and visit the Thermae spa there for a similar price.

Positive experience: Note review of gym only: Fundamentally average - its convient and no contract length (abliet at a higher price) means it's personally suitable but not without its flaws. The equipment is basic and somewhat limited with relatively light dumbbells (40kg max I think) and often machines can be broken with a number of treadmills having issues with belts that haven't been fixed and poor quality weight benches that are rickety. Overall it's quiet with no real meathead types, which is a personal like and the staff are friendly. The pool/sauna/jacuzzi are all fine, it's just overpriced for a comparable gym such as Nuffield. There's nothing awful, it just needs a bit of time and investment to improve it and may be better utilise some of the space, particularly in the upper area.

Negative experience: Went here for a hen do, we went for a package that included a half hour treatment, use of the spa facilities and an afternoon tea. I have to say whilst I had a lovely time celebrating my friends upcoming wedding I was very disappointed with the spa. The spa consisted of a pool, jaccuzi and a steam room, that was it, hardly call it a spa, more like what you get after a gym session! The treatment was lovely but the relaxation room we were taken to after was next door to the gym so we heard loud base music from an exercise class that was taking place, not very well thought out. The afternoon tea was very nice however as it takes place in the hotel we had to be full dressed and showered, rather lost the spa day feel due to this. Personally if this is the best spa that Cardiff has to offer then they are in need of some more. Save your pennies and go somewhere else.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Laguna Health and Spa. We take great pride in offering amazing value for money for a high quality experience but clearly this was not your experience. I am however pleased that you enjoyed your treatments and I will pass on your very kind remarks to our Spa Manager. My apologies that our Spa layout was not to your personal liking, but I can personally assure you our relaxation room is not adjoined to our gym and all the spa areas are fully soundproof. We do inform all spa day guests at the time of booking that our afternoon tea is served in the hotel restaurant as to get the full experience of our amazing afternoon tea, and this does require to be dressed. We also reiterate this in our confirmation email sent out to the booking coordinator. Please accept my sincere apologies that this was not to your expectation.

Positive experience: Great spa overall with very nice staff. It's got the necessary gym equipment for all exercises and the pool is a decent 25m it seems. The jacuzzi and hammam are very nice too. 4 stars because the pool has too much salt/chlorine and it starts to irritate your eyes after 5 minutes if you don't have goggles

Sorry to note your comment regarding the pool, it is surprising as we have one of the only UV swimming pools in the area, meaning it is kinder to skin and hair and more pleasurable to swim in than conventional pools. Positive experience: I really like this spa. The pool is lovely and warm and they give you a towel on entry. Gym is nice and big! The staff are lovely. Would definitely recommend

Positive experience: Good cocktails and fairly decent food. It's always really dark, though!

Positive experience: Being 38 weeks pregnant, my massage options were limited. Had a leg and hip massage which was great. Welcoming staff and will return for a day spa in the future.

Positive experience: Have mainly used the pool here, which is very nice and has a jacuzzi and steam room. Changing rooms are good. Recommend.

Fantastic experience: I've been there before and I really like the place, it have sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc.
