Positive experience: Decent gym with new and clean equipment.. it’d be great if they bothered turning the heating on in winter. If you get there early morning or late night it will literally be freezing and the dumbbells & barbells are ice could to the touch.

Fantastic experience: I joined pureGym last week at Meadowhall and I must admit the facilities, equipment environment & cleanliness is absolutely exceptional. I’ve opted for the off-peak membership which to me is incredibly good value and when I go it’s not massively busy and I feel that I’m getting really good value for money so thank you very much PureGym I’m absolutely delighted.

Fantastic experience: This review will be based on my experiences using this particular branch for almost a year. The gym itself is spacious, with lots of equipment and dumbbells. It's clean and tidy, but yes, there will be times when the weights are all over the place, especially if you come early in the morning. But once the staff make their round, the place will be pristine again(Kudos to the staff). It can be quite packed, especially in the early part of the year, but once March/April arrives, the gym will return to the average frequent goer. As for the changing room, I can't comment as I seldom use it, maybe good ventilation is needed. But it's decent enough from time to time. The best thing about this branch is the abundant parking spaces. Overall, excellent gym!

Negative experience: The class was good, but the entry system wasn't working, which means nothing has been tracked on the app, including the class. Also, the lockers don't work with certain sized padlocks either. Not the best 1st experience.

Fantastic experience: Convenient parking, there are always free spaces. huge hall, lots of air. Since not all simulators are duplicated, you have to wait for another one to become available. The floor in the men's locker room is poorly cleaned, there is dust in the drawers. maybe because I study late at night and they clean it up in the morning. but the floor is always dirty in the evening. Otherwise everything is fine.

Negative experience: This gym leaves a lot to be desired. I cancelled my membership here and joined a different 24 hour one ten minutes away as I couldn't take it anymore. Cons: -There is not one single cleaning station in the entire gym. They state this is because they are reducing waste but in doing so, are ignoring the hygiene issue. I do not want to use a machine after somebody else has sweat all over it with no way of cleaning it. I did ask them about this and they said members should bring towels but there is no way to enforce this. A towel with no product also does not actually sanitise a machine. -The gym is very messy and it doesn't seem to matter what time of day you go. The weights, plates, kettlebells, boxes, etc are always all over the place. Ironically there is often a sign stating that gym bags aren't allowed on the gym floor but the floor is covered in gym equipment anyway. -It's often dirty, rubbish on the floor, spilled drinks that haven't been cleaned up. (Even if people wanted to wipe up their spilled drinks, how could they if there are no cleaning stations?) -The machines are okay but there aren't a lot of options to be honest. For example, for legs there are the standard machines of leg press, curls, extensions - but no hack squat, no standing calf, no kickback machine, etc. -The staffed hours are very minimal compared to other 24 hour gyms in the area. -It is labelled a 24 hour gym but there were multiple days of closures and reduced opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period - which is fine if the gym is not labelled as a 24 hour gym. -There is no women's only training zone. -The only way to contact them is via email or Facebook Messenger. There is no number to call. -Just seems to be a mass gym chain with no real consideration of the actual members opinions as most members are saying the same things yet no changes are being made. Pros: -There is a big car park directly outside.

Negative experience: Do not join this gym if you’re a woman. I have been to plenty of gyms over the years and have never felt more uncomfortable in my life! The male members here will literally move equipment to get a better view to sit and stare at you while you’re working out. This isn’t just a one off occasion either it’s almost every single time I’m there; morning, afternoon or evening! I’ve literally had a man move a jump box in-front of me, sit on it and eat a sandwich while staring at me doing hip thrusts. It’s pretty obvious what they’re doing but I feel the staff just turn a blind eye. I’ve seen men holding their phones up as if slyly recording and when you check the direction of their phone it will be pointing towards a woman. It’s disgusting. The gym is also filthy! There are no stations to clean down equipment. People leave the treadmills and machines covered in sweat and you can’t even wipe it down if you wanted to. There’s always rubbish left in the machines and floor, spilt drinks etc. Clips for the cable machines are always missing. The attachments are never put away and are scattered on the floor (this is OK but you’re not allowed a gym bag on the floor next to you; make that make sense). Even if they were put away, half of the most needed attachments are missing so good luck finding what you want. You need to share 1 straight bar between the whole gym. I’ve been here almost a year and it’s just getting worse. If you need a gym the same price that’s clean, professional and you don’t get gawked at, join JD Gym! There’s even a women’s only section unlike at pure.

Positive experience: I previously went to the PureGym at Spital Hill (before it closed down and moved to the retail park) and I loved it but I hate the layout of this gym - feels too open. I’ve given a few stars for the staff, as they are lovely, especially Richard. I will be joining the new gym that has opened in place of the old PureGym.

Negative experience: What happened to “Don’t sweat it!”? There doesn’t appear to be any stations to enable members to wipe down the machines. On my visit yesterday your other member left a pool of his sweat all over a treadmill, still in evidence today. Etch!!! I’ve only been coming to this particular gym a short time. The soap dispenser has been empty each time. Just wondering what the policy is on this? Is it BYO soap now? Pure Gym claims to take your safety and cleanliness seriously - is that correct?

Positive experience: Average PureGym, plenty of squat racks the weight lifting area is cluttered. Not a lot of leg machines but plenty of dumbbells and weights. Good amount of pull up bars and dip machines too and a good sized movement studio.

Positive experience: Overall good gym. Would recommend to most. No Gym goons, no judgment. Nice enviroment. However, no blue roll or sanitiser. And only one water fountain with the slowest water pressure.

Worst pure gym I’ve been to and I travel around regularly so I use many different pure gyms. Would not recommend

Negative experience: The gym equipment is good and gym is spacious. However that's all good I can say. Cleanliness of this gym is appalling. Showers are never clean and they are disgusting. Lots of hair and dirt in the cabins. Same goes with the toilets. The staff is more busy to chat and talk to each other rather than greet customers. Shame that opened recently and management is so bad that the gym has 3.6 rating . It needs improvement.

Negative experience: The staff are what makes this gym a good place to come, very friendly and happy to help. The downsides are the equipment is very dated and falling apart, the equipment is often grimey to touch, there is never really enough time or space to get a full decent work out in without coming at 4am. The changing rooms always smell like feces and it's not very comfortable using them, I really feel like the building let's the staff down as they a brilliant and I really believe they would be capable of a much better outcome within a different facility. I have recently cancelled my membership due to the above reasons as I just found it to be to dirty and smelly every time I attended I just felt like my money wasn't being taken seriously. For now I use scaffolding bear by and basic workout schedules to keep fit which is free. I plan on returning but I will be leaving again if nothing has changed Once again the staff are excellent it is the premises that let it down it's gross im sorry. All the best guys

Positive experience: Decent enough gym. It gets really busy at certain times. Some weights don't get put back where they should (obviously not the gyms fault). Currently, there is no hack squat. But all the machines are new and plenty of squat/deadlift racks. Only true downside is the lack of treadmills and other cardio machines. The toilets and changing rooms are upstairs so going for a bathroom break takes me out of my workout a bit.

Negative experience: I have just joined this gym after pure gym closed the gym I had gone to previously. Firstly as a none driver it's a real pain to get to now its on a trading park. Secondly its more expensive than the place they closed although it's smaller by quite a lot, the layout is horrible and it's hot, like really hot inside. For the extra 6 quid a month I am paying I expect much more. I will stick it out the rest of this month but I will be looking elsewhere

Positive experience: Pure gym what are you doing ??? Nice enough gym but to be told I can’t bring my small gym bag into the gym is ridiculous. This bag carries my phone , keys and all my little training essentials. It’s a trip hazard apparently , where as the weights randomly lying around the floor aren’t ??? Sort it out pure !! This is nothing against the polite staff trying to enforce this ludicrous rule btw . Sorry guys

Negative experience: I've been going to this gym for a while now and it's great, but there's one thing that really concerns me - the lack of security at night. Even though there are only supposed to be 20-30 people in the gym, there always seems to be more like 40-50. I've noticed that a lot of people join as one member and then enter with 2-4 friends who haven't paid for their own membership. This can be frustrating for those of us who have paid for our own memberships. I used to go to the old Pure Gym at Spirit Hill, which had a round door that only allowed one person to enter at a time. This system worked really well and there were no issues with people sneaking in with friends. I think that PureGym should consider changing the entire door to a round one or adding a face scanner to improve security and make sure that everyone who uses the gym has paid for their own membership

Negative experience: Okay gym, I only use it as it's close to where I work. It does lack equipment, in my opinion. There is no hack-squat machine or freeweight calf equipment. It's missing an EZ bar for the cable machines and fixed weight EZ barbells. There is only straight barbells. I'm not going to lie. If a JD gym opens near it, I will be swapping gyms.

Positive experience: Only issue I find is that the enterance doors are actually part of the gym area Can be chilly when just arriving.

Positive experience: Moved to this from The Gym Kelham island as it's closer to home. I really like the free-weights area and the plates feel really nice with grip handles. There's plenty of benches and squat racks. Sadly the benches don't have movable racks that make it easier to lift a bar off when doing flat bench press, so I can't bench as heavy when training alone unless I ask someone for assistance. (almost injured my wrist dropping the bar back on the rack as well because the bar rolled awkwardly into the grooves of the rack) Other than these issues I'm happy with the weights area. There's also plenty of cable & plate loaded machines and you'll usually be able to get one even at peak time. The cardio area is a bit small but now that the initial rush of new members has gone down theres usually always free treadmills etc even at peak time. The men's changing room is a bit small and the showers stay on for about 12 seconds which is annoying. 4/5

Positive experience: Great gym, a big improvement from the spital hill gym. Lots of equipment and overall good layout. I like that the focus is less cardio and more machine and weights, great use of space. Would be 5 star if you kept the body composition machine from the spital hill gym or upgraded to a similar system that they have at thegym. The ones in the changing rooms are ok but i cant seem to get accurate results and are unable to get the results to my phone, which i prefer instead of a print out.

Positive experience: Decent space, decent equipment, not too busy and hopefully it won't get too busy. They have a set of gymnastic rings, yay!!! Although not very versatile, can't adjust easily without using a barbell or wrapping them around the bar. Plenty of pull-up bars / racks with adjustable barbell holders / cups. Small functional area, plenty of dumbbells and benches. There was a cleaner in the male changing rooms when I got there and was still cleaning when I left 1 hour 20 mins later. It was quite messy there when I arrived, but that's down to some individuals with no cleanliness, not using bins etc. I went to the pure gym at the bottom of Granville road after it first opened and was there for a few years. It became too busy, and dirty so I left. I just hope it doesn't get too busy.

Positive experience: This gym has good potential, the weights area is great, big selection of equipment. The Cardio area is a bit small but it’s got what you need. And it’s still fairly quiet. I am however concerned at the lack of cleaning stations around the gym and I hope this is only temporary. If you don’t provide necessary stuff for people to wipe their sweat up this is not going to create a pleasant environment. Also in the male changing rooms I’m not quite sure what cleaning rota/ frequency is in place but this needs addressing as the showers all week have been full of fluff/dust/hair, dirt marks on the walls. It’s like they’re not been cleaned overnight. The city centre one have a fantastic cleaners, never any issues like this and that is 3x as busy. If there are issues when it’s still quiet these will only get worse as more people join. The water pressure in the showers is also poor, and they don’t stay on long enough, constantly having to push the putt on ever 10 seconds. Hopefully these things can be resolved.

Negative experience: Brand new gym! Let’s start with the pros’. Great selection of equipment, spacious; staff friendly and helpful. Cons’. Changing rooms are small, toilets are always dirty. showers, I can see getting dirty and grim quickly! Do they have cleaners? Was disappointed the lockers don’t come with a keypad. Had to buy a padlock! At £6 - had no choice! Disappointed to say the least! I suppose for £10.99 p/m, I do expect a clean gym…When it does increase to £19.99 p/m after six months! I will seriously think should I stay or not… Puregym Management. Read and take action from your customers - this could be another location going down the pan….When it has just opened!! WHERE ARE THE DECENT GYMS with clean factualities

Negative experience: Quite disappointed as the PureGym in spittle-hill had a females only section which has now closed down. And unfortunately this new gym does not which leaves me and my friends no choice but to join JD gym that has a female section. Very unfortunate as I really like PureGym and was looking forward to joining this gym.

Negative experience: Edit (Sept 2024) - They're letting it fall apart!! Clips missing, machines broken for weeks on end, vending machines always broken, etc. Such a shame. The cable connecting the display on the 2 air bikes is split, the display won't stay on, been like that for months! The glute/ham raise is missing the adjuster clip for, it's been missing for months. The staff have also started emailing members, threatening them with account suspension if they don't put weights back after use... I agree to some extent as some people are just lazy! But I put my weights back 99% of the time... Occasionally I'll forget, if I'm in a rush to get back to work for example... I forgot to put my weights back once this entire year and they emailed me threatening to suspend my account! Every member is going to be suspended if they keep it up, it's ridiculous!!! Edit (May 2023) - Downgraded to 3 stars. Having visited the gym frequently (4 times a week) since opening my opinion has changed. One of the vending machines is broken already, the entrance turnstiles have broken multiple times. There are already clips missing for the cable machines and barbells. The fire alarm on the entrance has been flashing "error" and beeping for weeks! I've come to realise that the toilet facilities are way too small for a gym this size. There are not enough lockers downstairs and the staff care more about the silly "no gym bags on the gym floor" rule than they do about actual health & safety. There are always barbells and other equipment left in the middle of the gym floor (which I've tripped over or moved out of my workout area multiple times) yet the staff ignore it or walk around it. They don't seem to care about the gym. There is currently a chest fly machine that is broken and has been for over a week. There's a few clocks on the walls and they haven't been changed since the clocks went forward over a month ago, which I know isn't a big deal but it shows a lack of care and attention from the gym staff. The gym has only been open a few short months and it's already being neglected. It's sad really! Original review - Really impressed with the new Pure Gym. I went to the opening yesterday and had a look around then this morning I went for a proper workout. I was a member of the old Pure Gym (Nr. Tesco) which was a bit of a dump, but this one couldn't be further from a dump! Everything is brand new (I was worried they'd move some of the equipment from the old gym). There are 8 squat racks across the middle at the back, plus another 3 that doubles as bench press stations. The squat racks in the middle have solid platforms for squatting on one side, which is a welcome addition. They also have 2 sleds and Ski-erg machines (which I love!). There are a ton of DBs across the back wall with plenty of benches. There are also kettlebells, med. balls, and weighted bags... It has pretty much everything you can think of! They have a large open area on the main floor for doing WODs or stretching, etc. There's also a studio with plenty of space and studio weights/barbells. The changing rooms and toilets are upstairs. As you can imagine, they are nice and new, let's hope they don't get ruined. There's also a cycle/spin studio upstairs with cool lighting, full of brand-new bikes. The only issue with it being so big and having the toilets upstairs is that it's a bit of a mission if you're working out in the free weights area downstairs. I kid you not, from the squat racks to the toilets and back is about the length of a football pitch in total distance covered. Not ideal after heavy squats with jelly legs. I wish they had downstairs toilets. Parking and lockers are plenty, plus they have the usual vending machines with snacks and shakes. They have mostly the same staff that were at the old Pure Gym. They're a nice friendly bunch. The opening offer (£10.99 a month for 12 months) is an absolute bargain! Having such a nice gym makes me look forward to working out. Hopefully, it doesn't get ruined, please look after the gym people!
