Ivybridge Leisure Centre

Positive experience: Took my granddaughter for the 1 hour session for adults and children 14 th January the new pool area was not accessible just a small side pool area. No lockers were available and changing rooms cramped for an adult and toddler. Parking was also a pain with the new system. Sadly don't think we'll be returning

Negative experience: General manager is extremely arrogant and rude with poor management skills and zero customer service experience. He gives this place a poor reputation.

Positive experience: Every week we have swimming lessons here. Communications can be poor and prices are slowly creeping up

Fantastic experience: I love the pool,the whole area is clean and well organised

Negative experience: There's better gyms any where else. Unfortunately there are other gym goers that can make you feel extremely self conscious about yourself, also they could really do with an on site cleaner, the machines are standard, some are never working when you go, and I should not have to clean others sweat off before I use them! Changing rooms are also not very clean, so best to change before you go.

Positive experience: The staff are an asset to this place as they are friendly and helpful. Great size pool and a good range of classes. Only downside is that it could be cleaner in particular around the pool and changing rooms.

Positive experience: A good new pool and would get higher rating from me (retired swimming teacher) were it not for the design! If spending millions on a new pool have a spectator area where you can actually spectate. Do not put elevated tiled blocks at end (see picture) - highly dangerous so shouldn't be used to dive in and can't put proper removable start blocks in. Presumably the retractable roof for summer cost a fortune, pity it rarely if ever gets used.

Fantastic experience: All four of us visited for a swim today, showers were brilliant and changing rooms more than adequate for a family of 4 with a 4 year old and 2 year old. Cafe coffee good and we will be visiting again

Positive experience: It's ok. Saturday morning Body Pump is awesome. As were the evening classes before they cancelled them all. With no plans to reinstate many of the evening classes there isn't enough reason for most working people to join this gym if evening classes is what you're looking for. Additionally, the roof is alway leaking, often I've joined a class to find the floor soaking wet and a bucket left to catch the drips. Cleanliness is another issue. Please consider cleaning those minging fans in the studios. The gym itself and standard equipment but there are better gyms in Ivybridge. The pool is a good size but they started scrimping on the chlorine.

Negative experience: Swimming Pool Review. Positives: Lovely, clean heated pool. Negatives: A recent increase in price to £11 for a 1 hour for my son and myself, plus £1.60 parking in the car park outside. In my opinion this is quite expensive and if you have more than 1 child it would be nigh on £20. Half the pool being taken up by lane swimming when there are only 3-4 people (if that) using it and barely using it for 20 minutes of the session. The other 20 - 30 people are then crammed into the other half. Changing rooms are super small and it appears that there is a separate female change, but no male change for the main pool, so you have to be a contortionist to get changed. Please sort out the parking charges (e.g free parking for Ivybridge Leisure users) and keep prices reasonable for the average family who do not want to subscribe to an expensive monthly membership. With the British weather being as it is, swimming is a great activity to keep fit and healthy. Unfortunately, the cost will drive out the average family who are already feeling the pinch of increasing mortgage costs, food, fuel etc.

Positive experience: The reception staff weren't very helpful r sympathetic when we arrived just before 3 and the pool was closing at 3.30pm. Lovely pool, light and clean.

Fantastic experience: Great fun had by my family outing. My 4 month old's first swim and she loved it as did we all. Good front of house staff just as good were the life savers. One draw back shower and changing areas too small and lacking privacy

Fantastic experience: Very clean and bright leisure centre with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Very nice changing rooms with individual cubicles and hair drying facilities. Nice sitting area, for parents to watch kids having there swimming lessons. Highly recommended

Positive experience: Good local 25m swimming pool with clean changing rooms - would recommend booking a lane in advance. Be warned it can get quite busy in the morning - would not recommend visiting 09:00 on a Sunday as half the pool is closed for swimming lessons making lane swimming quite difficult with the number of people booked in.

Positive experience: I go 4 times a wk I think they need a dedicated cleaner who knows how to do it .

Positive experience: Sports Facilities are good but stay well away from the vending machines, constant issues and when approaching staff they say its not our machine and not our problem

Positive experience: Good little pool, and great for local use. Would like the lifeguards to be a little less whistle happy though. Only blow for actual safety issues please, especially when a parent is right next to them. My lad ended up basically winding the lifeguard up, pretending he couldn't swim for the afternoon.

Fantastic experience: A lovely clean 25m pool - with 2 medium, 2 fast and one slow lane during dedicated lane swimming sessions, so plenty of room to swim without feeling pressed by your fellow swimmers. The light that the roof and windows let in make this a really beautiful space to swim. The water is also a perfect temperature. Coin-less lockers by the pool are very convenient, the main changing rooms also have ones that use your own padlock if preferred.

Positive experience: I'm quite impressed. Visited and given a tour around. Friendly staff and a lot going for it. Might even move to the town.

Fantastic experience: My parents went there often travelling from Plymouth 40years ago to play badminton, so, it was good once. Nice location. Cafe was poor. Short term pay and display parking.

Negative experience: Called 30 times in two days no answer. Then getting a call back two days later. To then have someone hang up on me because they couldn’t understand the fact that their customer service isn’t even up to par. If you have multiple people working at a desk you can surely take a phone call. If you let the phone ring constantly, you take the time to take that call. Not leave it ringing, and if a customer gives you some advice on how to deal with a caller. Don’t hang up on them. Just rude, lazy and disrespectful. Bit late to call someone back at 3:30pm two days later after calling to book something. If you think that’s how you’re going to keep people coming to your centre don’t be so rude!

Positive experience: Great place but the booking system is complicated, and it's hard to speak to anyone in reception

Positive experience: Attended a family swim on a Tuesday morning, the staff are very friendly and approachable, £1 needed for a locker so keep that in mind, the changing rooms were very clean and the session was very quiet with 3 other people attending, I took a pushchair with me as had my toddler and there was no where to store this safely, so had to be kept in an empty cubicle. The pool was exceptionally clean and lovely and warm, however the changing rooms and showers after were freezing cold which was not a great experience with a tired toddler! This has not put me off and I would return again

Positive experience: A really nice pool with great swimming lessons, but the collection and drop off of children for lessons is abysmal - it's utter chaos. The staff are friendly and kind, but they really need to sort this issue.

Fantastic experience: I have just had the pleasure of doing the Friday morning aquafit class. It was a fabulous class with a lovely knowledgeable lady instructor called Steph. It works every part of your body with no stress on your joints. You can do as much as you are able & she shows different adaptable moves. The class was really full with lots of lovely ladies of all ages but I think men would also really benefit too! I couldn't believe how many calories I burned in 45 mins! It didn't feel like it & left feeling really refreshed. I look forward to next week!

Positive experience: It is what it is! If I lived closer I'd probably join because it's as good as any other gym in the area.

Negative experience: The worst leisure centre I’ve ever been a member of. The booking system is unreliable and needlessly complicated. Does not accommodate families as there is no way to book family groups. Each child has to have their own unique email in order to be able to use the booking process and you have to login for each person individually to book on to swimming sessions. The availability is extremely limited so it’s a miracle if you can even book and that’s when the app decides to work. Been charged multiple times for the same booking and gave up trying to get refunds. Just too many hoops to jump through. Don’t even try and just turn up and swim, even if the whole family has memberships because the reception staff will treat you like an inconvenience. Not accommodating or sympathetic of their terrible booking system. Trying to cancel our memberships was just as ludicrously difficult as you have to go through the app. Not sure why they have a reception desk because it appears they can’t do anything more than a scanning barrier.

Negative experience: No details of the outdoor pool, very limited space for families after school times, no one picks up the phone. Won’t both will go else where.

Negative experience: Poor. No way of contacting management / contacting head office. Follow the email address given via internet search and the email is passed on to the centre or just ignored. The manager is rude and has no customer service skills at all. Paid for 30 minute swimming lessons most of the time they were around 23/24 minutes. Was told the clock in the pool area is 3 minutes fast ... in that case should they not come out 3 minutes later at the end? Its handy that you can sit and watch as you can see what's going on in the pool which I don't know how they can be called lessons with the some staff just clock watching for most of the session . Thankfully have now found somewhere who can provide actual lessons.

Fantastic experience: Good clean changing facilities , helpful staff and 2 very nice swimming pools. Perfect for families.

Negative experience: Great gym and facilities just be mindful I've never had so many issues cancelling my membership I thought I cancelled just after covid started, but apparently I didn't fill the form out correctly so phoned them got sent another cancellation form was told I would be charged another month which I wasn't happy with but at least its cancelled. Then saw I'm still being charged 2 months later!! Currently waiting for a reply for an e-mail I sent proving I have canceled for the 3rd time.

Positive experience: Booking online is awkward, bestvto phone and book your slot

Fantastic experience: Great changing rooms, free lockers (you'll need a pound that you get back), plenty of pool space. Simple and convenient for the kids.

Positive experience: I don't go to any other swimming pools to compare, but it's really good. Plenty of changing rooms, a couple of showers, 3 shower cubicles. Also since the new pool was opened, you don't need change for the lockers anymore, which, as someone who doesn't carry cash, is really good. Parking is free before 8am, but it's only a pound or so for an hour I think, so it's not hefty. My 13 year old sister recently went to the roller disco, which is held on Friday nights and thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours she was there for. They have a beginner's area so even if you haven't done something like that before you can practice before going in with everyone else.

Negative experience: Disgraceful con !!!! They say no contract but when you leave they want 2 months worth of membership I paid the final month so that means they get one month free with out actually attending. Rude on the and threatening to right me off the credit financial company's. So it is a contract!!!

Fantastic experience: Great facilities for the whole family.

Negative experience: Ridiculous prices... almost £20 for ONE hour on a badminton court for a family. Have paid this today as a special treat for my kids in the Easter holidays but think it is absolutely disgraceful. Didn't have a problem getting a booking though which I guess is a reflection of the fact it is unrealistically expensive for most families to access.

Positive experience: Great new edition with the second pool. My boys did the inflatable pool activity, they loved it, good fun for 45 minutes, they're 11&8. Worth the money, plenty of lifeguards

Positive experience: Clean and tidy, large facility with two decent sized pools. Price is abit much and the company that currently runs the centre could be improved but the centre itself is great.

Positive experience: Can’t complain about the facilities and the money that has been spent to upgrade the site but whoever designed the viewing area must’ve been high when they were doing it. I appreciate they were probably on a tight budget and limited somewhat by the pre-existing layout but it’s hard to imagine a viewing/seating area with a worse view of the new pool.

Positive experience: Way over priced ,no concessions and the lane swimming was very tight,as in narrow lanes. Be advised to have fewer lanes to make them bigger. It works for most other sports centres.

Negative experience: Very small gym, absolute nightmare to cancel and rude staff! 100% would not recommend!

Positive experience: A really good choice for families. The gym is big enough to have a decent routine without waiting to much on between if is full booked. The changing rooms still looked and that is the reason for 4 stars, I personally like to have a nice shower after my workout and right now it's possible on a common area even with non members just waiting on the swimming pool area to collect kids.

Fantastic experience: Lovely new building and pool was fab. Love the idea of the open top roof. Found it quite expensive especially having to pay for an under 3 year old. Only had half hour as said 2 year old was tired.

Positive experience: Great experience as its the first time we have been there since it was extended, love new pool and great clean and tidy changing rooms.

Positive experience: The instructors are excellent but the centre has gone down hill a bit recently. Some of the equipment is worn out and doesn't function well. There are cages containing a variety of equipment all bundled in together without care for its condition. ie, weights on top of mats and blocks causing damage. There are numerous dirty mats. The cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired - shame really.

Negative experience: HAS ANYONE BEEN REFUSED ENTRY B4? Our son booked swimming for 3rd October for 1200pm for 4 adults & 2 children, 3 & 2 respectively. Our son travelled down from Cwmbran, Wales, as he had to deal with minor issues over the selling of his house. My wife, sons wife & myself travelled from Plymouth. Due to a road accident and tail back of traffic, our son was obviously delayed because of this.When he arrived with our grandchildren. We made our way to the booked swim, costing £40, but we were refused entry because of the delay we were approx 15 minutes late. Entry refused because of "Track & Trace" WHAT!!!!!, according to a staff member named Jason. No further explanation by him. Now had myself, my wife & our sons wife entered for the swim. We would NOT have known that he and our two grandchildren had been refused entry!! Plus our sons wife had the swimming costumes for her children.I have complained on their website. NO REPLY WHATSO EVER. THEIR 48 HOUR REPLY WINDOW HAS LONG SINCE PASSED. Totally unacceptable. The attitude displayed by the individual who "dealt" with us was lathargic and Jason displayed a "couldn't care less" attitude mannerism. The lady receptionist of at that time was busy on the phone. We didn't argue at the time because of our grandchildren. At the same time according to Fusions own guidelines. We should have been passed onto the duty manager by this Jason, but weren't given that opportunity. It does seem that Fusion think that they have a legal right to keep our sons £40, even because we had mitigating circumstances, which we weren't asked about, why we were late. That is very close to being theft or taking money under false pretences. Covid is affecting EVERYBODY. BUT IT'S NOT A BLOODY EXCUSE TO HIDE BEHIND JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS LATE. WE STILL PAID FOR THE REMAINDER OF OUR TIME. FUSION REFUSED US TO EXERCISE OUR RIGHT TO OUR REMAINING SWIM TIME.It's not over Fusion. No way. Fusion owes £40 or a FREE session in compensation.

Negative experience: Nice pool but totally let down by to few showers, maybe a rethink is in order

Positive experience: New pool is fabulous however overall experience is let down by poorly designed changing rooms. Only 1 clothes hook in changing rooms which is not enough when you are changing yourself and children (can easily be addressed though). Wall to wall lockers have been placed in a narrow area where parents/children wait to get in pool whilst people are trying to access their lockers. Biggest issue is there are only 3 shower cubicles and 2 public showers. It's hard for parents to assist their children with showering as the water doesn't drain in the right direction and your feet are soaking. Cannot fault the swimming instructors however and hopefully these niggles are easy to sort.

Fantastic experience: What makes this leisure centre really special is not the impressive modern equipment and state of the art facilities nor the quality, variety & frequency of the group classes but the fabulous staff. I'm a new member & I've been very impressed from the start with the friendliness & professionalism of all the people working here. From the knowledgeable front counter staff to the enthusiastic class instructors and skilled gym trainers. Everyone without exception has made me feel welcome and valued. Well done all - especially so far Lewis, Jayne, Leanne, Jamie, Sam, Charlotte & Louise. I would wholeheartedly recommend this leisure centre.

Fantastic experience: Visited here for a session of badminton. Facilities were clean and the racquet hire was free, which was a pleasant surprise. Staff were very helpful.
