Negative experience: Sadly it's gone really downhill lately. Always messy, all the hygiene stations have been removed, meaning nothing can ever be wiped down, and staff are nowhere to be seen.

Negative experience: Such a small gym, always super busy, there is never weights available as they only have one of each weight and some PT’s take de weights and keep in on the side for their “clients” If you don’t want to feel like the central line, avoid this gym

Negative experience: What’s with the lack of bins and sanitary spray? A study just revealed there’s more bacteria on gym equipment then on toilet seats and yet there’s 1-2 accessible sprays for the whole gym. And the lack of bins encourages people to just throw their sweaty DIRTY tissues on the floor. Please sort this out
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. PureGym prides itself on being able to offer state of the art fitness facilities to our members in a safe and welcoming environment. We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols, including the introduction of cleaning stations, to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Fantastic experience: I've always wanted to check this one out, I like the workout spaces. But the male changing room and toilets and showers need a proper clean and or a refurb...it stinks. Otherwise check it out if you don't mind.

Positive experience: You guys need to fix the AC. Its been bad for the last 2 years, but this year in particular its just so hot in the main gym bit - I asked a member of staff and he says its been bad since a leak a few months back. If you run 600 gyms you should realise at the end of the day temperature control is essential - the cycle room downstairs on the left is always lovely and air conditioned, showing that you can achieve this. This should be the uniform temperature for the whole gym - stop hoarding profits and invest in proper AC or you will lose customers. Additionally WIFI needs upgrading, non trainer wifi is bad and can't connect to it 80% of the time, otherwise the gym is ok - it is small (the free weights area in particular) but largely speaking people put their weights away and the gym is clean and its the cheapest option nearby, but seriously - the temperature needs fixing NOW and is pretty unacceptable - we aren't even at the hottest part of the year now.

Fantastic experience: Love the view for running hard before and after workouts, worth it. A lot better than looking directly at a wall like some of the other PureGyms.

Positive experience: 1st training here today. Good ambiance, people are respectful with each other. Nobody let their weights everywhere, so my impression is very good. Machines are in working order and there is a sanitation station.

Negative experience: When is management going to fix all the broken, blocked and bent over lockers to make the life of users simpler??? Also guest day passes for plus membership don't work via the link provided by the app, I need to call a member of the staff who're always helpful to let my guest in

Fantastic experience: Amazing classes run by Hakeem Oseni!!! I only attend his classes as he is the absolute best! Classes are well structured and provide a full body workout regardless of whether it is Legs Bums and Tums or Spin Cycle and it is clear he is passionate about fitness. The classes are further supported by well thought out motivational playlist which enhances the experience. Hakeem's classes are always fully booked, which is a testament to their effectiveness.

Positive experience: It is a nice gym, a wide variety of equipment and enough space for everyone. I don't like that the gym is below floor level seeing as whilst underground I have no service or signal at all, which isn't the greatest in case someone needs to contact you in an emergency. In response to the owner: that's nice, however, I'm highlighting that if someone were to try and CONTACT ME in case of a family/friend emergency, they wouldn't be able to reach me.

Negative experience: First time here. Absolutely horrific changing room conditions at 5am. What time is it cleaned??? If changing rooms open at 5am??? I switched from Gym Group because of some issues with plumbing, they had to close. But their changing room was never EVER this disgusting in the morning. Absolutely no reason whatsoever for such a mess. UPDATE: They cleaned it. But not changing my review. Because if someone else had mentioned this, I would never have come. I am changing my gym location though. Apart from the conditions of the changing room, the gym is too cramped, not enough equipment, and the staff have an attitude problem. Good luck to those who don’t have an option but to stay!

Negative experience: Gym is always soooooo hot and over the past couple of months it smells like sewage. Tried to speak to a member of staff to tell them but couldn't find one.

Positive experience: Very very friendly and approachable staff, can be a little messy and the whole of Sunday is unstaffed which means there's no toilet roll and the weights are left everywhere, but during staffed hours it's not as bad

Negative experience: Would like to know if the air quality has been tested in here. Underground and overpacked. Don’t drink from that flavoured water machine that can’t be good for you.

Negative experience: Very messy, noone puts their weights away (even some of the PT's). It's going very downhill. I've emailed but they've done nothing to remedy the issues. The "put your weights away" signs have all been taken down (why!?). There is some decent equipment, some staff are friendly and it's affordable. But the mess and no one putting their weights away is creating a terrible gym environment.

Negative experience: I was a member of this gym but cancelled recently after growing very frustrated with the multiple aspects. People leave chewing gum and dirty paper towels on the machines (see photo), I have also never seen cleaners on premises. The Wi-fi is rubbish and I emailed management addressing the this but they never responded or acknowledged the problem. The gym is usually over crowded, too many people in a small space. Machines and equipment very average and at the best of times out of service. The place is poorly run and not looked after. Not worth it as there are better health and fitness facilities nearby for a similar price range.

Negative experience: The gym itself is nice. Some equipments are damaged and getting friendly help from their staff on how to use the exercise machines turned into an argument. Two staff against me one. To defend myself all I could say is I came to the gym to relieve stress.

Negative experience: Do not join this gym they make it impossible to quit charged me money for months even though I kept trying to quit because of having moved. And also when I did go, the staff often bother you, watch you and critique the way you do things

Negative experience: Even if I have premium membership many times the keypad rejects my entrance and I have to wait like 30 min until it works. I tried to call the staff using the buzzers at the entrance but why would anybody bother to come at the door and see what the problem is?

Positive experience: Very small gym and not a lot of equipment

Positive experience: Well stocked and clean. Wi-Fi is problematic as there is no phone signal downstairs and requires a sign in code. Be good if there were some exercise bands.

Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms I ever been in London. When I started going to this gym few months ago I wasn' t sure about it. Being a Basement gym I didn 't feel that wow effect. But as weeks went by, I began to appreciate this gym a lot. Ok is a basement Gym and busy as any other gym ( especially pick hours time ) but the machineries are all brand new, always continuously cleaned and the guys who work there, from the management and the trainers are all fantastic. Great atmosphere. Attentive, friendly, approchable, helpful, always smiling with the public and between themselves . It a shame that I m moving out from this area of London , but where I am going to live still in London there is another Pure gym near by. Thank you guys and wish you all the best as this gym for me was the best.

Negative experience: Extremely unhygienic and untidy. I try to avoid this gym as I feel I may catch something. Either covid or general sickness. Have never seen staff washing down any equipment in anytime I have been there.

Positive experience: Always enjoy going to this gym. The atmosphere is usually calm, but lots of work going on all around. There are only 2 rowing machines but one is almost always free and wait times for equipment is short. Male changing rooms are clean; showers and lockers are available, and if you have the correct padlock then lockers are available too.

Fantastic experience: Safe, clean and friendly space to work out. I really love this gym! I was always the sort of person who had a phobia of gyms...all the fit people who know how to use the machines scared me. But when I bit the bullet and tried out Camberwell New Road I was so surprised by the cleanliness, the positive environment and the respect of the employees and other members. I have been going for over a month now and am so glad I joined. I feel healthier and happier and more able since I joined the gym. I also have grown in confidence as the weeks have gone by and I now don't feel afraid of trying new equipment. My entire experience has been in the pandemic and I truly mean it when I say that PureGym Camberwell New Road is one of the only public spaces I feel completely safe in. It's always clean and there are always plenty of sanitizer sprays, wipes and hand gels. I've even seen gym staff cleaning the equipment that's not in use and they regularly announce that they deep clean the gym every night. One very satisfied customer!
Positive experience: Overall, this gym has a nice environment which is lovely to work out in. One thing to improve is maybe get some risers? The benches are too high for me to effectively hip thrust on (I am quite short!) and the aerobic steps are too low for this too :( I would appreciate it if this gym had risers so I could stack them and make a bench of appropriate height for this purpose. Other than that, staff are friendly and most of the equipment is fine. Hygiene is very good too!

Negative experience: Gym closed. Spoke to customer services and explained that my gym partner is getting reimbursed and free gym access to all gyms until they re open again. They couldn't care less and just fobbed my onto complaints team, because they wouldn't be able to offer same for me. Now in the process of emailing complaints and see what they can do. Absolute joke.

Positive experience: Not as good as everyone claims n no parking facilities
Positive experience: Good selection of equipment- a bit small
Negative experience: Instructors rarely turn up to the classes and give you no heads up that the class will be cancelled. Also there are often no staff members on site at peak times, which firstly strikes me as a significant health and safety risk. And makes it impossible to know if your class has been cancelled or if the instructor is just running late.

It goes without saying that if a class is cancelled members that could be affected by a class cancellation should be notified ASAP. It would really help if you could contact our Member Services Team through [email protected] so we may escalate the class issue to the Gym Manager, or provide you with their direct email. In this email please provide how you would like to be contacted back, the date and time of classes so this can be properly investigate. There should always be personal trainers in the gym between 6am and 10pm, but especially at peak times they are often occupied with classes or clients. However, if one is available they will always be happy to help. If they're not immediately visible, you can try knocking on the office door or pressing the button to call for assistance. Negative experience: I usually go to this gym before 7 am and even then it is messy. I've never seen staff returning equipment and the members seem to follow their example. The price is low and location is good so I don't expect that much, but since the gym is always busy basic gym etiquette being inforced would help. Half the members don't bring towels so it would be useful to have tissue stations for people to use as Gym Group do.

If this is not the case please let Member Services know when you have visited and we can investigate this further. It is in the rules that members should bring their own towels as a courtesy to other members. We made a conscious decision as a company to not provide wipes so we could reduce waste from all our gyms. In the meantime, I really do hope this does not put you off from attending the gym. Positive experience: Decent gym with good value for money during off-peak times but often off-putting during peak times as it gets cramped easily, resulting in long waits. Something should also be done about the lack of etiquette sometimes when people are hogging the weights or machines for unreasonable lengths of time. The wifi also needs to be fixed as there’s been an outage many times I’ve been there. Even on a good day, the coverage is really patchy in certain areas of the gym.

Negative experience: There is not much to like about this gym. Sure it is cheap, but that does not represent good value in this instance. Firstly, the gym is hugely oversubscribed, where there is no point in going after work between 5pm and 7.30pm as you won't be able to do anywhere near the workout you want - there is not enough equipment for the number of members, and then the equipment that is there is hogged by people who insist on doing all their sets before moving on rather than sharing. This links in with the extremely poor etiquette of a lot of the members - leaving weights all over the gym floor, not wiping down after use, sitting on equipment on their phones. There are several 'gym rules' you agree to when joining, but none of the staff enforce any of them. I even saw one member working out topless today. This gym has been open just over 2 years but it looks like it has been open for a decade. As another review mentioned, the moment you walk through the entry pods you are hit with a musty, mouldy smell, that only gets worse once you're in the changing rooms. I begrudgingly use the showers before work, but they look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks, and the gym equipment is lacklustrely cleaned by gym staff every once in a while. If a piece of gym equipment breaks, you can expect to see a 'Man down. I'm being patched up,' sign on it for days, sometimes weeks. Overall, I would only recommend this gym if you can go in the middle of the day and you don't care about cleanliness or how other's can impact on your workout.

Unfortunately we are unable to monitor the usage of phones in our gyms, however if people are sitting on equipment I would strongly advise approaching a member of staff on the floor who will be able to help further. Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please notify staff on site as soon as you can. Positive experience: Was really pleased when this place opens, as there aren't many other gyms in Camberwell. It's fine, although the showers could be cleaner and there's been a leak in the ceiling downstairs for a few months now. Kinda gross when you're working out next to a growing puddle that's been on the floor for a few months. All staff do seem friendly and helpful though which is a plus!

Negative experience: Far too humid, warm, overcrowded with the not enough equipment. Not sure the AC has ever been running since ive been going and the whole place smells like a mouldy sock. Proper prison gym vibes in the weights area, switching to the leisure centre much airier, less crowded and cooler temp. More expensive but this dank humid basement is not worth what it costs anyway

Positive experience: Nice gym with good variety of resistance machines. Very good value for money and in a convenient place just off of Camberwell road. The layout of the gym is easy to navigate with clear signage, changing rooms upstairs and equipment downstairs. The women's changing rooms are fine, there's a sweaty smell but it's a gym so what else would you expect? The showers are clean and effective. The toilet cubicles weren't very clean but weren't filthy. There were a large amount of free weights and bars and enough cardio machines and resistance machines to go around. It has a good range for all abilities, one man was doing hand stand push ups while an older man used the resistance machines. I have since signed up for a membership as it basically has everything that I need for a good price. It could be a little cleaner but I did see members of staff going around and cleaning the machines. The signal is bad as discussed by other people but it's an underground metal and concrete building. If these small issues bother you, pay more and go to another gym

Positive experience: Went to Spin class here, was supposed to start at 7pm and finish at 7:45pm. The Instructor strolled in at 7:05pm, got the class started at 7:10pm and finish at 7:40pm... PureGym staff fail to understand that some of want to exercise for the whole 45 minutes that we signed up to and not some version close to that. The class itself was good but it should've been for the entire 45 minutes as stipulated.

Fantastic experience: The odour in the men's locker room is unrecognisable, truly idiosyncratic — I half expect to find penicillin in one of its corners. However, this acts as an incentive to get in and get out swiftly. No dilly dally round here.
