Our comment from FitFit UK about Chalfont Leisure Centre:
Chalfont Leisure Centre is a vibrant local hub offering a variety of activities and modern facilities to cater to the community's needs. Visitors have praised the friendly and welcoming staff, who add a personal touch to the overall experience. Customer feedback highlights the following positive aspects:
- Cleanliness: The centre is noted for being clean and well-maintained, providing a pleasant environment for visitors.
- Diverse Activities: There is a great variety of activities available, including swimming, basketball, badminton, and fitness classes.
- Refurbished Facilities: The centre has recently undergone renovations, with an updated gym and functional training space.
- Safety Measures: Staff members are attentive and ensure safety during activities, which is particularly appreciated by parents.
However, some areas for improvement have also been highlighted, including:
- Membership System: Users have expressed frustration with the membership management, stating it can be difficult to navigate, with issues in cancellations and visibility of activities.
- Gym Size: The gym has been described as small and sometimes crowded, with limited equipment available, especially during peak times.
- Parking and Access: Although there is accessible parking, some users feel the spaces could be larger.
- Class Availability: It has been noted that classes can fill up quickly, limiting options for users.
In summary, while Chalfont Leisure Centre offers an excellent range of facilities and a welcoming atmosphere, there are notable points of concern that management may want to address to elevate the user experience further.

Chalfont Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I’m deeply concerned about the dangerous and unacceptable practices at Chalfont St Peter Leisure Centre. The overpowering smell of bleach every morning has rendered the facilities unusable for my family and me. This isn’t chlorine, which is standard in pools, but bleach—a harsh, toxic chemical that should never be used in leisure centres. Bleach is banned in these environments for good reason. Its fumes can cause respiratory irritation, eye discomfort, and skin reactions. For children, elderly individuals, and anyone with health conditions like asthma or allergies, prolonged exposure is a serious health risk. Using bleach in an enclosed space creates a hazardous environment, undermining the safety of a facility meant to serve the community. Many members, including myself, have repeatedly complained about this issue, but the manager has failed to take any action. This negligence is unacceptable and demonstrates a blatant disregard for the health and well-being of members. Instead of addressing these concerns, the situation has continued to worsen, driving away loyal users like myself. What’s even more troubling is that the excessive use of bleach hasn’t improved cleanliness—if anything, the centre has become dirtier. This reliance on bleach feels like a shortcut to mask deeper issues with proper maintenance and cleaning. After years of supporting this leisure centre, I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel memberships for my entire family. I cannot continue to pay for a facility that ignores health risks and fails to prioritise the safety of its members. If you have young children attending the leisure centre, please be aware that they may be exposed to harmful levels of bleach fumes. This is not a safe environment, and until these serious issues are resolved, I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. It’s deeply disappointing to see a community hub deteriorate to such an unsafe and unacceptable standard. I strongly urge management to ban bleach immediately, implement proper cleaning protocols, and take the health of its members seriously before more people are put at risk.
Fantastic experience: Car park spaces need enlarging. Very dull buildings and setting.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre with modern facilities
Negative experience: Customer service is rubbish including some of the receptionist especially the one wearing the big glasses. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Kind and welcoming staff, cleanliness everywhere, plenty of parking space
Negative experience: It is the worst membership system I have come across. They charge for 2 activities and I can't even see 1 activity on my profile. When I went to the centre, they told they can't cancel there. They have made cancelation so tough, it's very unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: Best pool ever
Fantastic experience: There are plenty of activities at this centre. I visited with son for a pool birthday that he had to attend. The party was fab. Great service from the staff. The staff was nice and helpful and was around all the time by the pool and ensuring safety for kids and everyone around. I would love to arrange a similar pool party in future.
Negative experience: L’est gym ever, bozo’s left right and centre. L dumbbell rack only goes up to 42s. Who do they think we are?
Negative experience: **PLEASE READ** I went to use the gym at 16:45 on a weekday and my observations were as thus: I simply could not believe I had to upgrade my membership to use this gym as it is significantly inferior to the other ones I use in Basildon, Carpenders Park, Watford Central, Watford Woodside and Hemel Hempstead. The gym is extremely small and the equipment is limited when it comes to weighted machines. The changing rooms are equally as small and the showers, while warm, have such a wide spray you have to be against the cubicle walls to shower properly. Several gym lockers do not work and one does not have a door. I noticed that you also have the cheek to share 20p to use a locker if you wanted to shower. Abysmal behaviour. The only redeeming feature this gym had was that the staff are friendly and helpful. I strongly advise you use another centre for gym purposes or even their other centre in Chesham.
Positive experience: Small - 25m by 3-4 lanes - but clean.
Positive experience: Very nice facilities, pool is a little cold for my toddler though (fine for adults I think).
Fantastic experience: Excellent local sports centre. I bring my kids here for football lessons at Little Kickers Club; the sports hall is very safe and clean. I've used the pool a few times; it's clean and the water temperature is ideal. The changing rooms are spotless. The employees are always friendly and helpful. Badminton and table tennis are also available.
Negative experience: Booking lessons via the Internet is a real pain, it is not user friendly.
Fantastic experience: Good game of Badminton. Nice court's.
Negative experience: £40 quid a month and there’s only one bench and one squat rack
Fantastic experience: Recently joined everyone active in chalfont. Only go to the classes as only joined for those. Mostly go to Lesley’s classes. She is fab - lovely energy about her - I’m really enjoying the variety of her classes.
Negative experience: I don't understand why there can't be a separate membership for non pool users. I only want to use the gym for the weights area and cardio but I feel that my membership is paying to heat a pool I never intend on using, it's clear the money isn't going to the aging equipment or staffs pay, every week another piece of equipment has a nice little A4 "Out of Service" sign on it. Nobody is supervising the school kids when they rock up and smash all the equipment around and attempt to realign their spines by deadlifting with the same back shape as a croissant. There's only one bench press station, one proper squat rack and one lifting frame... but only two Olympic bars, madness. Overpriced, underfunded and praying off the fact it's the only gym in the area.
Negative experience: It's not until you've had the best that you then realise the worst. I paid the same for nuffield health which offered a LOT more including a steam room and sauna! I'm super disappointed with this gym. Whilst the renovation has been impressive, it's also gone seriously downhill since it changed hands. Do not go off previous reviews as they do not reflect this gym properly. Please join if you don't mind spending £40.00 a month for a gym that has broken equipment, lack of staff (due to bad management) & dirty old showers. I personally believe the equipment is broken due to the careless teens who come in after school. I'm pretty sure under 16's and 18's should be supervised anyway, which is not something you see in this gym... I look forward to quitting.
Positive experience: Easy to access and staff are helpful. Only downside is the gym is quite small considering the price and the equipment doesn’t always work - treadmills for example.
Fantastic experience: Nice basketball courts
Negative experience: Classes are always booked up and gym is tiny and lacks natural light. Pool Also lacks natural light . Very limited class choice unless you like virtual cycling . I joined a few months and then cancelled as not vfm compared to nearby gyms - slough everyone active is cheaper better , friendly and good choice of studio classes .
Positive experience: Great since it got taken over by Everyone Active. The swimming pool was recently completely refurbished in 2021 and there's an immersive spin studio. The classes are great, but limited due to number of studios.
Positive experience: ok
Fantastic experience: What Experience
Fantastic experience: Very good atmosphere and kind personel
Fantastic experience: Beautiful site, with ancient trees, deers, rabbits , squirrels, lots of birds....
Fantastic experience: Friendly welcoming staff. Very clean and tidy with great consideration for covid-19 guidelines. Their Sunday morning table tennis drop in session from 10.30am to 12.30pm was run very well and thoroughly enjoyable. I'm very much looking forward to going again next week.
Fantastic experience: Very nice staff, place was tidy and organised.
Fantastic experience: Super miejsce na trening..bardzo mili ludzie
Positive experience: Good to do lots of activities including swimming basketball indoor football tennis and a lounge area and fitness sweat
Positive experience: Sadly I only use the leisure centre to take my son for his swimming lessons. The facilities are very good, and I find the staff very welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff
Negative experience: Have called five times leaving a message for someone to call me back... Is there anyone ever going to return back to me??? I've spoken to two people and both said they would pass my message on. It has been three weeks now and I have even tried calling again today and it seems they're just hanging up on me ending my calls. I would've left it but decided that I need to make a review as nobody is returning back to me and all I want to do is have membership. I hope this approach works???
Fantastic experience: Good place to swimming
Positive experience: Ok gym, equiped enough for general fitness. Conditioning area is good with sled and ski erg which are rare in commercial gyms. Free weight area is a bit small and no real space for deadlifting and only one squat rack Cardio area is well equipped.
Fantastic experience: Very nice
Positive experience: Great basketball
Positive experience: Nice, quieter gym in chalfont. Take the kids swimming. Very nice.
Fantastic experience: Staff were friendly and helpful, facilities were great!
Fantastic experience: Fun place and very reasonable
Positive experience: Came here for roller-skating.
Positive experience: Friendly staff and good facility.
Fantastic experience: Most of the staff here are very helpful. The place is well maintained and clean.
Fantastic experience: It'd great place
Negative experience: Poor value for money. Memberships and day passes are expensive as the only facility I want to use is the gym. There's never any trainers around or in the gym, the gym is very small with limited equipment.
Positive experience: Alright but could be cleaner and machines are often out of order and not fixed for a while. Often very busy during weekday evenings.
Positive experience: Gets the job done - decent value - crowded pool
Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service! Carly was lovely, very friendly and helpful. The gym has had refurb since last seen and is looking good.
Positive experience: Not the best machines but that's alright
Fantastic experience: Love the new functional space and Danielle on reception is so helpful
Fantastic experience: Great local leisure centre. Great variety of classes and refurbished gym with functional area. Friendly staff and members . Clean
Fantastic experience: Great local leisure centre, it’s always clean and tidy and reasonably priced. The gym has a good variety of machines and equipment and the exercise classes are brilliant. There’s also lots of clubs/lessons to keep kids busy. Friendly and helpful staff especially the receptionists.
Fantastic experience: I was there on Wednesday and it was nice to see how clean it all looked in the sunshine . The lady at reception was very helpful
Positive experience: Good badminton halls but changing rooms lack the overshoes they used to make you use and floor not that clean as a result.
Fantastic experience: Rather close to both where I work and where I live
Negative experience: Very expensive
Fantastic experience: Student membership price is really good! And it includes swimming, gym and classes. Facilities are excellent. Clean and well maintained. I’ve never seen a machine out of order for more than a day or two. Great variety of gym machines to use both upstairs and downstairs. Plenty of room for floor exercises as well. The only downside would be that the toilets up in the gym have been out of order for a while. But there are toilets in the downstairs changing rooms. And their website is kept updated on any problems so you are aware :)
Positive experience: Great local resource. Nice pool. Odd swim timetable (eg closed in school hols or hardly any adult lane swims at good times)
Positive experience: Well maintained leisure centre
Positive experience: Lots of faciluties including a four lane swimming pool. Lots of different classes on offer. Always staffed on reception. Big multi-sports hall. Attended here regularly for over nine yrs. Excellent gym with instructors. NO sauna /steam room / games room.
Fantastic experience: Good place for a kids swimming party.
Positive experience: My local centre for which I am grateful for.. Much better than it was by miles pool is great classes are good I'm told I don't do classes We do short tennis and swimming both senior classes I'm very happy its up and running again ... It still has issues booking system is flawed never right And showers pretty low pressure...constant issue with drainage..no hair dryer today 2 showers have no lock 2 changing room cubicle have no lock broken and a great help would be a sinner for wet suit's On the plus side the staff are really nice on the whole and do try to help where they can With a couple of exceptions Still more than happy to have this facility on our doorstep And wouldn't like to loose it I do use lifestyle gym but not The homely feel of Chalfort.
Positive experience: Very good environment
Negative experience: Billed for non attendance at a class. Was in hospital A&E with kidney stone
Positive experience: Very good
Fantastic experience: Great new gym
Fantastic experience: Very good Centre, i visiting to go to the gym and have a swim, both areas are clean and tidy. New functional room & equipment in the gym is the cherry on top - highly recommended.
Positive experience: Nice small leisure centre very friendly lots of activities.
Fantastic experience: Very good facility, just used their brand new functional area and a member of staff should me so many different exercises! I definitely recommend joining here. :)
Positive experience: Great place for keeping you fit, gym, swimming pool, badminton and more. Friendly staff.
Positive experience: Recently refurbished and looking really nice now! Never had to wait for someone to finish on a piece of equipment which is a first and it's always spotless.
Positive experience: Good facilities and a lot of sport equipment to improve your trainings.
Fantastic experience: We did love the badminton court
Positive experience: Clean and friendly
Positive experience: Good sports centre and has a decent size pool, gymnasium and sports hall. It also has cycling/studio classes but the rooms are relatively small. Centre is dated and could use some modernisation. Has a car park which is free to use.
Negative experience: I agree with Dieter. The online swimming timetable never seems to be accurate. "Dissapointed" doesn't come near it, "bloody annoyed" is more like it, when it takes me 20 minutes to drive there. Tried phoning once but nobody picked up, now the phone says "check the website". Progress. How hard can it be these days to update the website once every month or so? Cancelling my membership.
Negative experience: Crap.
Positive experience: Great local community gym.
Positive experience: Very unimpressive gym, but it's pending refurbishment I've been told. Well priced with generous discounts on offer
Negative experience: I was disappointed, and not for the first time, that the on-line time table for the pool did not accord with the facts. i live some distance away and arriving at 4 pm (the website stated open for general swimming until 4.30 pm) I was disappointed to be told that the pool was not available. The staff checked and I was correct. It is high time that the management lives up to the companions name - better.
Positive experience: The pool can be cleaner
Positive experience: Good gym if you're looking for a local place to exercise and get back into shape, fairly limited variety of machinery and equipment. Lots of classes go on here from gymnastics to cycle classes. Swimming pool, gym and gymnasium available.
Positive experience: Gym is small and has a limited number of strength training machines
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool
Negative experience: The swimming pool is fine (haven't used the other facilities) but is not cheap and there are quite a lot of hours when the pool is partially or entirely booked out by schools or clubs. I ended up boycotting the place in irritation after they failed to process my cancellation of a monthly membership, and when I later realised they were still taking the direct debit they refunded only part of the overpayment, leaving me paying for two months when I hadn't used the pool at all.
