Bannatyne Health Club And Spa in Hitchin offers a variety of amenities designed for relaxation and fitness enthusiasts alike. Guests have praised the facilities for their cleanliness and pleasant ambiance. The spa treatments offered, particularly massages, have received positive feedback for their quality, with specific therapists being highlighted for their exceptional service.
Members enjoy the welcoming atmosphere created by the friendly staff and the café service, which includes daily fresh coffee and a selection of dishes. Many visitors particularly love the restaurant experience, with items like handmade pizzas receiving special mentions during events like birthday celebrations.
Despite the positives, there are some noteworthy areas for improvement. Several users have expressed disappointment regarding the spa management, including the organization and timing of treatments, which at times felt rushed or mismanaged. Facilities such as the pool and changing rooms have been described as overcrowded during peak hours, affecting the overall relaxing experience.
Overall, while Bannatyne Health Club and Spa has commendable features and dedicated staff, improvements in management and facility organization could elevate the experience further.
Bannatyne Health Club And Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: Was booked for a sweedish back, neck and shoulder massage. From start to finish it was 15 minutes, what a rip off, not impressed at all. Then when I came downstairs all the therapist wanted to do was sell me product. Not ask me if I enjoyed the treatment. Definitely won't return
Thank you for your feedback Patti. We pride ourselves on exceptional service and clearly your experience fell short of your expectations with us. It would be good to review this further and therefore I would ask that you contact us on [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Love this Club, been a member for years. Bramleys Fairfield is the bar restaurant and also a Starbucks concession, where we go daily for perfect coffee. In addition, recently, they hosted my big birthday celebrations on a Saturday night, opening especially for me. The bar team were amazing, the catering perfect...I chose their handmade pizza, which was a real hit with my guests. Thank you all for making it a memorable occasion.
What lovely feedback and thank you for celebrating your birthday party with us; it really was our pleasure hosting it.
Positive experience: Disappointing Spa Day Experience Only massage ♀️ was good I recently visited this spa for a much-anticipated day of relaxation, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing. The pool area was overcrowded, and to make matters worse, there was a group training session happening at the same time, which disrupted the peaceful atmosphere I was hoping for. The jacuzzi was packed as well, leaving no opportunity to enjoy it properly. Additionally, I was surprised to find that the saunas were gender-segregated, which was not what I expected. There were not enough lounge chairs available, which made it hard to find a comfortable spot to unwind. Beyond the pool and the jacuzzi, there really wasn’t much else to do, which made the whole experience feel quite limited. Overall, I was very disappointed with this location from this company. It didn’t meet my expectations at all, and I don’t plan on returning in the future, particularly to this location . -Great Service at the Reception I want to highlight the good service at the reception. The staff were very friendly, professional, and attentive, making a great first impression. The girls at the front desk were polite and accommodating, ready to help with any questions or requests.
Thanks for your feedback on your Spa Day and the compliments given for your experience with the staff and your treatments with us. We do strive to consistently excel in every aspect of the customer experience and have noted your comments so that they can support ongoing improvements that we seek to put in place.
Positive experience: Had a gift voucher to use here. Had my treatments but the products were not cruelty free. Disappointed. L'occitane is the parent company of Elemis and do test on Animals according to latest information. For those that care do your homework.
Thanks for the feedback on your visit to Fairfield. Please be assured that we do use cruelty free products and we can happily provide further information on this if it would reassure you. As this was possibly not made clear we shall reiterate the message to our team.
Fantastic experience: The cafe/ restaurant team are always friendly. Lewis, Amber and Sasha always create an environment that keeps me coming back! The best gym/ restaurant environment I’ve ever experienced.
What really lovely feedback Daniel. We look forward to seeing you back soon here.
Fantastic experience: Facilities are great. I am a regular memeber a very rarely have any reason to complain about anything. Staff are all great. Great service from Amber, Sasha and all the girls in the cafe with a beautiful smile too.
Thank you for the great feedback Aaron. We look forward to seeing you soon at Fairfield.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place e had a great chill staff at reception very nice friendly helpfull, fabulous massage will deffo go back
Thank you for the lovely feedback and we look forward to seeing you back soon Mandy.
Fantastic experience: Sasha, Lewis and Amber the dream team when it comes to getting my daily coffee. Always happy always smiling very welcoming. Would highly recommend dropping into the cafe and meet the team! Coffee is 10/10 Couldn’t forget to mention Evie, though she doesn’t serve coffee, never fails to sort out what I need! Again always smiling always happy. Makes my time at Bannatyne a lot better when Evie’s on the front desk.
Thank you for the great review and we shall ensure that your comments are shared with the team in the Cafe Bar.
Positive experience: The gym is so under equipped and this place is more focused on classes and spa. The spa is nice but a but strange to have separate saunas(male/female) but one for all steamroom and jacuzzi. However very tidy and nice place to relax but if you want a nice workout this is not for u
Thank you for your feedback and the compliments given within it. We feel that our gym does provide a wide range of equipment throughout its two floors and crucially we employ a team of fitness experts that are focussed on ensuring that our members get the most from it. If there is any kit that you believe we should have than do let me know here, my e-mail is [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Came for a birthday spa day with my friend , upon arrival Cathy provided amazing service, she was so welcoming that my friend was saying he will join the gym just because of the great customer service, Natalia was my massage therapist, she was amazing and the massage was very relaxing! First time at bannatyne Fairfield, definitely not the last! - Maya
Thanks for the lovely feedback Maya. Your comments shall be shared with Cathy and Natalia and we look forward to welcoming you back soon to Fairfield.
Negative experience: The spa and the treatments we had were lovely - the staff were very friendly and we felt lovely and relaxed afterwards. Sadly the good experience was limited to the spa treatments- when we entered the pool area, there was a loud aerobics class happening in the pool and all the loungers and chairs had been reserved by people in the jacuzzi, so there was nowhere to sit. The seating area itself was loud and not relaxing, with insufficient lighting to sit and read a book. Was a shame as well that the saunas are not mixed so if you go as a male/female couple you have to use them separately. I’d recommend the spa but personally I wouldn’t bother using the facilities, especially at the weekend.
Thanks for your feedback on your Spa Day and the compliments given for your experience with the staff and your treatments with us. Please be assured that we strive to consistently excel in every aspect of the customer experience and have noted your comments so that they can support ongoing improvements that we seek to put in place.
Negative experience: Sent an email to reception over a week ago and have had no response. Tried calling reception, no answer, left voice message and no call back or nothing. The longer I'm ignored the less I wish to return to a bannatyne gym.
Please accept our apologies for the lack of response in this instance and allow us the opportunity to now rectify the situation. As such, if you could e-mail me at [email protected], with your details and we shall get in touch with you.
Positive experience: Only visited the cafe, which was OK. Coffee not very hot. Lost stars as you cannot pay in cash only by card.
Thanks for your feedback having visited our Cafe Bar. We are sorry that you find us not taking cash as an inconvenience but we have found significantly improved efficiency in our service levels since changing it.
Positive experience: It was ok. A bit busy. Some inconsiderate people hogging the facilities because they are obviously 'regulars'. Treatment was good. Staff very friendly. Lunch was really nice.
Thank you for your feedback on your Spa Day and the compliments given for your experience with the staff, treatments and your lunch with us. Be assured that we strive to consistently excel and have noted your comments so that they can support ongoing improvements that we seek to put in place..
Fantastic experience: Nice and friendly and helpful and relaxing
Thanks for the five stars and your lovely review Terry.
Fantastic experience: Great place, lovely location, great staff
Thank you for the supportive review and we look forward to seeing you soon at Fairfield.
Fantastic experience: Great Bannatyne in a historic building. The pool is amazing and so is the gym space. Staff are really friendly and great that it has a cafe that serves hot spoon
Thanks for the lovely review Hannah.
Negative experience: I attended today for a spa experience as a birthday gift. I was a few minutes late for my facial as couldn't open the locker and had to get a member of staff to help. I only got 12 minutes treatment even though the experience was 30.minures. the lady concerned said she didn't have anyone after me and I explained why I was late. Even with the time I was deducted for lateness I would have only had 17 minutes. The lady at reception said that hands on contact was only 20 minutes but there was only one question about my skin type. I'm not sure what the other 10 minutes is supposed to be for. Very disappointed. Felt very rushed. I later saw the me.ber of staff having lunch in the restaurant so.maybe that was her priority
Fantastic experience: Group-on spa day voucher used for our visit today. A lovely building, very helpful, welcoming staff, cafe was fine (good toastie, but menu was basic). Had a massage with Christine who did a fabulous job, I would go back just for her!
Fantastic experience: Very nice and clean spa, better than most London locations and excellent customer service by Hannah.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, friendly staff, interesting location.
Negative experience: My mother and I spent the day at Fairfield yesterday for a spa day Firstly, the building is stunning, the staff very friendly and the treatment was superb, kudos to Claire. Unfortunately there are a few negatives. Swimming pool area not relaxing, too small with very limited beds. The cafe was nothing special and food was edible. There’s no comfortable seating anywhere, benches outside and hot beds only, you need some sofas and a ‘chill out area’, the toilets were dirty, sanitary products amongst other rubbish left on the floor for over 4 hours. We were extremely bored and disappointed, we couldn’t wait to have our treatments and go home. We’ll stick with Bury St Edmunds in future.
Negative experience: Incredibly disappointing. Booked a 30 min treatment online and added on 15 minutes. The total treatment time was only 30 minutes! When I queried this I was referred to the terms and conditions (who reads these!!!) that says they can take 10 mins off per treatments. Really poor value.
Positive experience: I went on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. Plenty of poolside beds and only 4 or 5 people in the pool. I had a toastie sandwich for lunch with a side of chips, carrot cake, coffee and a water. It was very nice and cost just under £20. The server was lovely and very helpful. I had a facial and neck massage. Bliss! So relaxing and the lady doing it was very good. I loved the heated beds which were a perfect way to relax after my treatment. My only quibble was the showers. I had to try about three different ones before I found one that wasn't plastered with the previous occupant's hair... Overall a very good experience and I will definitely be back.
Positive experience: I’d like to start my review by saying that my initial dealings with Bannatyne in general were above & beyond - We had to reschedule our initial visit with a days notice due to our dog passing away and they accommodated a reschedule no problem to a date over 6 months later. I’m not a spa connoisseur but I have been in the health & beauty industry for 14 years including running my own salon, That being said I’m generally laid back and happy just to have somewhere to nap in peace. My initial impression was good, the building is beautiful and despite some of the reviews complaining of the facilities being run down I didn’t think they were and found them pleasant. The reception staff were great but did lack providing relevant information which could have made our experience better. My treatment which was 3 mini treatments condensed in 50 minutes, was actually 35 mins and it felt more like 10. Again, I’m not big on massages, I don’t expect a great deal but it was robotic and generally pretty rubbish with little to no pressure. The room was cold to start with but then my therapist turned on a fan for herself before starting my treatment The whole treatment experience lacked the relaxation and holistic feel of a spa experience and felt like a beauty college treatment. It’s worth noting my partners experience was better with another therapist but the bar for him is even lower. After our treatments we headed down to the pool area which wasn’t well sign posted or advised by staff, When we finally found it the setting was beautiful and I thought finally I’m going to get a cheeky nap in and relax. Wrong.. club members screeching at the top of their voices, singing and shouting in the hot tub so to drown the strangled cats out we put earphones in connected to our phones. Upon finally finding some peace we were approached by a staff member who looked like she’d sucked a lemon asking us if our headphones were connected to phones and that they needed to go in the lockers in the changing rooms. We explained we needed headphones to drown out the obnoxious shouting to which she ignored and just said there’s literally signs everywhere (there’s one which I didn’t think was relevant because we wouldn’t be leaving it unattended or getting in the water) I asked if there was anywhere we could actually relax like we’re at a spa and she said we could lay on the pre treatment hot beds you wait on in the treatment area at the other side of the building, Had someone actually told us that we’d have been there to get away from the chaos anyway. So we went to the hot beds the have the hottest sweatiest nap ever which I was determined to have and I did get a 20 min snore in. Upon leaving reception we weren’t greeted with a smile or a goodbye just sour puss chewing wasps behind the desk. Overall wouldn’t go back or recommend, The place has a lot of potential but staff need a reshake and clear rules need to be set to accommodate both spa goers and club members. For that reason, Am oot.
Positive experience: Only just joined the gym here, but found it to be a very reasonable price for the facilities compared to many other local gyms! Particularly ones offering a pool, sauna and steam room. The whole building is lovely and clean, in an excellent quiet location and does not appear to be too busy. Definitely able to relax here and the gym is relatively well equipped (perhaps a little small but they've used the space well). Only other preference would be a sauna that I could use with my partner, as these are in the separate changing areas. This could be great, or a downside depending on your preference! Steam room is shared :)
Negative experience: Terrible experience with this gym. Cancellation is almost impossible, customer service is unresponsive, and I’m unfairly charged despite completing my contract. In 13 months, I never met the manager and wasn’t informed about basic amenities like the café. They seem more focused on money than on serving customers. Avoid this gym.
Positive experience: We went for a spa day- the jacuzzi was broken but the place was a nice setting.
Fantastic experience: Had a spa day with pizza and Prosecco for my wife’s birthday. The service was great and the spa was very clean.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful spa, set in dramatic building, staff were lovely and friendly, spa areas were spotless, pool underground was so peaceful and with lovely mood lights.. Food was very good.. Massage was well done and very relaxing.
Negative experience: I've been a member at Bannatyne Burton for a while now, and while the facilities are generally decent, I must express my concerns about their health and safety standards. The hose used to clean the showers is frequently left unattended for up to an hour, creating a serious tripping hazard. On multiple occasions, I've seen the cleaner lift the hose just as guests are stepping over it, causing them to trip. This is not only inconvenient but potentially dangerous. I hope management addresses this issue promptly to ensure a safer environment for all members.
Positive experience: We paid for a day through a website for two. All facilities, Back/neck massage and scalp massage with lunch. Facilities are lovely. The lady at reception was super helpful and friendly too. Really enjoyed the spa itself and it was generally clean and tidy. Only issues I have, firstly the set menu consisted of three dishes, a soup, avocado on toast and a jacket potato with one filling. Not a fan of any of them. Secondly, my massage was sub par. It was 40 mins of someone tickling my back. I wish she would have asked what pressure I wanted but I spent the whole time thinking it was a build up until I was told I was finished. I can only compare it to being a wet flannel dragged across my back however, my husband had the same treatment with a different masseuse and he said it was amazing and very firm so this was more down to he individual. thirdly, £10 to hire some flip flops, dressing gown and a towel. Seems a bit excessive for something you cant keep. Overall, It would have been much better value for money to have just paid £35 for a day pass as opposed to a package that cost 5X that.
Negative experience: We bought Virgin treatment vouchers for a 40-minute session. Over the phone, we were told it would be 35 minutes of hands-on treatment. However, we ended up getting around 26 minutes. We've tried over 100 massages worldwide, and this was the poorest. This is odd because we tried to book for Sundays, and after a rebook due to staff issues, we got our appointment after 6 months. Avoid for treatments. I can’t comment on anything else. Photo from the hot beds area attached.
Fantastic experience: Amazing time very relaxing and great massage. Lunch was delicious too and very reasonable
Fantastic experience: Lovely setting at fairfields, friendly staff and service.
Negative experience: I came with my boyfriends brother and family for a day out. We weren’t greeted with the best customer service, we went when the Easter promotion was on we weren’t told we had to pay as there was a promotion to bring an egg and you could go in, however because my partners brother is a member we had to pay £20 for a session if he wasn’t a member it would’ve been £30. The facilities weren’t the cleanest. The timings the gym and pool are open is not adequate to the amount people pay there. The equipment in the gym has also been broken for 3/4 weeks meaning you can’t even do a workout without excess queues for certain exercises . Considering the gym in Hastings town is 24/7 and a fraction of the price it’s not surprise multiple people are swapping over their memberships.
Positive experience: My partner & I recently visited Bannatyne Spa in Weybridge, and had a wonderful experience. The facilities are great, offering a very relaxing environment, and the staff are friendly and professional, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. Each treatment was delivered with expert care, adding to the overall sense of calm. Do note, there is an additional £10 charge per person for robe and towel hire, plus a £10 deposit per person, but, given the overall quality of the experience, we didn't really mind. Plus, the pool does have timetabled sessions (for instance, we arrvied at 11:00 on Saturday, and the first timetabled session of the day for a children's swimming lesson started at 12:00). However, this only occupied a small portion of an otherwise large pool. Apart from that, I would highly recommend this spa! Plus, they do great sandwiches and smoothies, which we enjoyed before some excellent massage and facial treatments.
Fantastic experience: Good experience, the massage could have been better, but I enjoyed the sauna and swimming. The food was also good and at decent prices.
Positive experience: Negative first Swimming pool, is more for gentle breaststroke and about the same length as the width of normal pools. The odd selfish person decided not to follow the "Anti-clock" route and everyone had to get out of the way as he swam through everyone. Lack of chairs near the pool and more selfish people putting towels on the chair and went off somewhere. Spa massage felt rushed and the bed hole for your face to breathe had a board under it so you couldn't get an air flow, so I had to keep sitting up, this made the visit less relaxing. Gets very busy at lunchtime. Personally I felt it had a lot of "posers" just wandering around lol. A lot of money for gym that felt cramped and everything was through so many doors and up and down stairs. Positive The staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant food was ok, the salad looked very "limp". Toasty was good, as was the coffee. Overall - Would I have another spa day there? Probably not. I just didn't feel I could relax and the atmosphere wasn't as relaxing as other spa centres.
Negative experience: My experience of Bannatyne has been less than desired. The gym is clean, pleasant, plenty of equipment and the pool, steam room and jacuzzi lovely. However, I put myself in the hands of an experienced fitness trainer. I was very clear about the challenges I had, medical situation and age, I'm 70. After 2 sessions I had to stop as I had damaged my knee, my back etc. I had said the exercises were too difficult for me but that was not listened too. I needed professional medical treatment. I put my trust in the trainer as they were operating under the Bannatyne banner. Mine is not a happy experience.
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our day at the spa. A really relaxing environment where the staff are all amazing and so friendly and welcoming. They phoned me beforehand and explained everything we needed to know from parking to robe hire. My therapist was exceptional and was happy to personalise my treatment. The location is wonderful, I was really taken with the architecture of the building and it was easy to find however there is slightly limited parking early in the morning. The only downside was the quality of the food. I had a burger which was just a plain bun and patty. No cheese or relish etc. For such a high quality spa experience the food doesn’t quite match expectations but the prices were reasonable.
Negative experience: Worst spa experience ever Booked for a birthday treat for my daughter Who has never been to a spa before Rude receptionist and couldn’t be bothered to tell us about the treatments or classes Cold pool and very unhelpful staff Couldn’t wait to leave What a an absolute disgrace of a place this day was meant to be relaxing Will not be recommending at all Very poor Certainly staff need some training on how to be courteous and respectful to clients
Positive experience: had a spa day which was very enjoyable, had a facial from hope which was great thank you , Staff were friendly and professional, stream room was great ,temperature in main pool was cold but bearable after going into stream room first, basic lunch soup chips drink at a reasonable price soup could have been hotter , definitely would recommend it and go again
Negative experience: Complete con with times stated , states 30 minutes for a massage , however deduct 10 mins for a meet n greet and then a brief !!! Completely misleading and completely shocking customer service with the arrogance around being misled . This place a few years ago was brilliant and you got your monies worth with a great friendly service . Since 2020 it’s completely gone down hill and heavily over inflated prices . As a local resident it’s a shame to see how this place is heading down hill .
Fantastic experience: I had lovely service today at Bannatyne in Banbury. Hayley was very helpful and solved my problem.
Negative experience: It was too cold throughout the whole building. Swimming pool was cold. My pasta dish was the worse ive ever had and was cold stuck together like wallpaper paste. My treatment room was cold couldn't wait for it to end so I could get dressed. Not relaxing at all. Came a few years ago and it was lovely. Unfortunately I won't ever be coming back. It was a birthday present and was really disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Spa in incredible. Beautiful pool and tranquil surroundings. My go to for a spa day
Negative experience: Bannatyne Fairfield is the dirtiest, worst looked after gym I have ever attended. Pairing that with the fact it is the most expensive gym that I have ever bought a membership for, you can understand why I am so disappointed. Mens showers are vile and disgusting, the sauna and steam room are not as hot as they should be and very often dirty. Overall, one of the worst gyms I've ever been to.
Fantastic experience: Really nice gym , beautiful pool and lovely spa
Negative experience: My partner and I were gifted a 30 minute massage each but unfortunately we only received a 20 minute massage. When I mentioned at reception they said in the small print you get a 5 minute consultation before and after. Very cheeky- it's advertised as a 30 minute massage
Fantastic experience: I went here in December for a spa day and I couldn't fault a thing! The friendly reception staff, the cafe food was amazing. Everywhere was clean and the spa treatment was fantastic! Can't wait to come back!
Positive experience: We had a lovely visit but were disappointed to get a parking fine a few weeks later. There's no details of parking validation on the website and wasn't prompted to validate my parking when checking in for our spa day. Whatever signage there is or staff training isn't clear enough if anyone visiting is getting fined. I've submitted an appeal and hoping it's revoked - so anyone visiting soon, have a lovely time but validate your parking the moment you arrive!
Fantastic experience: The perfect day. I enjoyed a spa day using the facilities and then a lava shell massage and facial with Lauren. My treatments were outstanding, Lauren made me feel very comfortable from the start and she listened to everything I wanted from the treatment. The spa facilities were lovely, not too busy and all staff polite and helpful. I would highly recommend. I left feel totally relaxed and brand new!
Positive experience: Beautiful venue and lovely staff. Unfortunately, when we went, everywhere was cold (26/11/23). They provided us with extra towels to use as blankets during lunch. It was difficult to relax. This was a birthday gift so it was a bit disappointing. The lunch choices weren't inspiring or very healthy. I had a nice massage and the pool and spa areas were lovely.
Negative experience: Absolutely awful customer service, very rude and made our spa experience a bad one. Head office just as bad waited over 2 weeks for a refund!! Will never go back!!!!
Negative experience: Booked a couples spa experience and what was expected was a secluded area for spa facilities and treatments but was met with membership members using the facilities at the same time, which meant that we couldn’t really use the facilities as they were very busy and couldn’t relax because they were very loud, the treatments were OK, it was more of a back rub, I wouldn’t say it was a deep tissue massage at all, still feel relaxed though after the massage but after the whole experience just feel more stressed than before I went in, so the 2nd star is for cleanliness as it was clean but I’m being generous with it.
Positive experience: Everything you want from a spa. Therapist was very good. Very relaxed feel to the place, and clean, if a little cool for my personal choice. Decent size pool to get do a few strokes (1.25M depth all round).
Positive experience: Reception could use more staff in the morning. Pretty decent overall, fab treatment. Bit cramped for the pool and pool area too cold.
Negative experience: I went with a friend for a “relaxing” evening. Unfortunately the place is not very visible so it took half an hour to find it. Upon arrival we were asked for ID, which we were not aware of. We then proceeded to do a full registration, including having our Id scanned and photo taken. The process took about 25 mins, and they don’t accept cash… We went in and the locker room, showers and toilets were nice and spacious, clean, which we enjoyed. Saunas are separately in changing rooms so if you go with a partner - is not enjoyable. Steam room was great but in jacuzzi tab was impossible to stay - too much chlorine . The pool was nice, but but missing depth (only 1.25metres depth). I tried to make the most of our stay, but I think the most relaxing part of it was the steaming room and shower I took before heading back home.
Fantastic experience: I attended the spa and had a beautiful facial and body massage by Christine. She made me feel brand new and also showed me all the wonderful Elemis products she used throughout the treatment. Definitely recommend this spa and Christine.
Positive experience: Amazing day out. The spa itself is very nice, there’s loads of gym and spa facilities to use, and when you book the spa day you have access to it all which is great. There was full use of the pool, jacuzzi, steam rooms, saunas, stone beds, showers, changing facilities, gym, everything. There is also a cafe which was very reasonably priced, and granted the food wasn’t the best however for the price there was nothing to complain about. We had treatments in the Elemis Salon, I booked a full body scrub and scalp massage with Hope, and it was amazing, she did such a good job (i would’ve put 5 stars if it was based on just her alone). Reason for knocking off a star was some of the communal hallways needed a bit of a clean and the changing rooms were very cold. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.
Positive experience: Nice gym, expensive for what it is tho. And hit and miss whether the heated poop works or not
Negative experience: Would not recommend the spa. Very expensive treatments and average experience compared to small local businesses. Feels run down and rushed, more money making than relaxing. Spend your time and money elsewhere.
Positive experience: I absolutely loved it here. Came to use the spa pool and steam room/sauna. It was gorgeous! Only downside was the lift was broken and I wasn't told prior even though when I rang I said I was disabled. Luckily I can just manage the stairs on a good day and that day was a good day. Otherwise I would have paid and got in to find out I can't get to the pool. If it's out of order please put a sign at the front desk thank you
Fantastic experience: Had a SPA Day with my hubby. Extremely beautiful building and clean facilities. The staff at reception and in SPA had an exceptional customer service and make us feel welcomed. The treatments were top notch- especially for my husband who had his first time experience. The cafe food delicious, well priced and the cafe team super friendly. We will definitely return soon.
Positive experience: Went for the first time yesterday. When we walked in the greeting was warm and welcome and the receptionist explained about the day. Changing rooms very clean and easy lockers. We went into the spa area I was a bit disappointed the pool was freezing. When I asked a member of staff he said it was 30 degrees more like 28!! He then came back after a few minutes and said yes it was cold and would tell the manager. I know that it takes a couple of hours to warm up and by 4pm it was still cold. I had to get out of the jacuzzi as my eyes were stinging and they were still stinging 30 mins after. We went for a treatment which was the best but of the day.. the facial and the head massage was perfect for what I needed. We went to go for a shower but they smelt musty so decided to have a shower at home. The toilet in the cafe was dirty. The mirror was filthy and the flush didn’t work properly. Overall we had a lovely time but didn’t rate much of the pool area which is a shame as that’s the relaxing part
Negative experience: So dissapointed with bannatyne Fairfield. I paid almost £200 for a relaxing spa day with my partner, however the steam room was “out of order due to a maintanance” and the male & female saunas were separated in the male & female changing room. Therefore the only thing we were actually able to do together was sit in the jacuzzi! There was absolutely no communication or apology about the steam room being closed on arrival, we just had to find out ourselves. Absolutely will not be returning, so dissapointed with the service. I advise everyone else to spend their money elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely experience at the spa today. First time at a Bannatyne. Lovely friendly staff and very helpful. Had an amazing back neck and shoulder massage along with a relaxing facial from the lovely Angel.....thank you!
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely time at the spa and left feeling so relaxed after a massage from Lucy who was very nice and kind. She chatted a bit but not overly so which was perfect always checking that everything was OK. Very knowledgeable of her products and made some good recommendations.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful spa, swimming pool underground and relaxing soft lighting. Treatments great, was a gift for my birthday and my 3rd time here. Highly recommend it
Negative experience: Interesting pool and summer good facilities. But my treatment package, I didn't fit on the message table and it was very uncomfortable on my face, as the home was very small. I suppose it's only for small women. No alternative offered. Also I didn't receive my facemask that was meant to be included in the treatment. Poor
Positive experience: Shame the steam room was not in use, and better signage throughout would help. That said a good spa and spa staff were excellent. Website for booking is not well set up, and make sure you know your vehicle reg when you go in as anything over 2hrs parking needs to be logged on their system.
Fantastic experience: Amazing scenery, clean and calming. Fabulous service and very professional. Café had gluten free options and alt milk in their Starbucks. Brilliant time, would come back again.
Positive experience: The treatment was fantastic but charging for very old and worn robe dampened the experience.
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful spa day. Facilities were exactly as expected. The massage was also fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great looking place, stunning story to the building. On the day bookings for additional services was really limited couldn't upgrade the treatment.
Positive experience: My Therapist Hope gave a 10/10 massage & the best facial I've ever had. Cannot wait to come back to visit! The pool area is lovely, just a shame that there isn't enough recliners to relax as very busy, despite it being a weekday.....
Fantastic experience: Was booked a spa as a surprise by friend.. had an amazing time all the facilities were so clean. I was given a back, hand and arm massage by Angel and it felt amazing. She was so lovely overall a great experience - just what I needed!
Negative experience: The afternoon spa was not as expected. From the renting of robes and towels to the massages for my husband and myself, it was unexpectedly shocking. The communication and the service received were poor. Assuming that a client knows the next step without letting them know is wrong. We booked a Swedish back, arms, leg and hands massaged together two days ago. We were separated for our massage and my husband didn't know what was included in this package as this was my treat. He received a back massage only from an inexperienced young girl, which did not inform him when he finished. I requested to swap my hand massage with my feet one and I had, in the end, the back and feet massage, no legs or arms either. I have to admit my Jodie did a good massage on my back. I paid £120 for two massages. When I explained to the receptionist I had a headache and could not stay to enjoy the rest of the spa facilities and that I had paid for it. Still, the receptionist said I could come back any day to pay an extra £35 per person to enjoy the rest of the Bannatyne facilities already included in my booking. I tried to call to speak with them over the phone yesterday and today, but no answer. I will look for a form of complaint online, as this was so disappointing for my husband and me. It is such a shame as the area looks lovely and is combined the past with the present. Still, the people are inexperienced, service is insufficient and communication skills are minimal.
Positive experience: I have been a member here for a month and a half now. I received an email to provide feedback but it was only multiple choice with no additional written feedback possible. External facilities 1.The car parking facilities are not suitable for a club of this size. Due to the club's location many members (and day visitors) need to drive to get to the club. The car parks are always full, I've had to park on the muddy grass a number of times or have to wait in my car until someone else leaves - nearly making me late for class, which if I turn up late to I could be refused entry to join the class. 2. The car park has basically no lighting which is awful when leaving late at night alone. 3. There is a massive pot hole coming into the car park area, which doesn't look like there has been any attempt to rectify. Internal 1. I haven't spent much time in the gym area, but for a gym of this size I would expect more squat racks - these tend to get monopolised. Plenty of cardio equipment. 2. Studio - I would say that more frequent cleaning of the floor throughout the day is required. I have been in yoga class and find clumps of hair that have been floating around the floor area. 3. The pool area. Mostly ok, the pool needs more regular checks for cleanliness have found plasters and the like floating around when swimming. I do appreciate the sign at the end of the pool asking members to swim in a particular direction as there can sometimes be spa visitors just standing in the pool getting in the way. The hot tub seems to turn of very regularly despite a number of people using it. This is probably a cost/energy saving exercise, but it does get frustrating. There are certain areas in the pool area that look like they could do with a revamp. Changing area/Showers 1. The locker area is a good size and I have had no problems finding an empty locker. 2. There are only 2 cubicles to change in, so if you don't want to bare all you have to wait around. The actual cubicles themselves are ok, but do need revamping and more frequent cleaning. 3. Showers aren't the nicest to be honest - I would expect something far more appealing to the eye and also much cleaner. I don't doubt the cleaning staff are working very hard, I think that the cleanliness issues come from the fact that they need upgrading. Classes 1. I have only tried a few different types of classes at this stage and all of the instructors have been great. 2. The app is good and you can book classes up to three days in advance. I do like that there is a freeze on cancelling from 2 hours before the class as it stops people from holding onto their bookings too late. 3. Despite there being a number of classes, there seem to be particular ones (Body Balance, Pump, Combat and Pilates) that are so so difficult to get booked on to. There is a waiting list but is obviously dependent on other members cancelling to open up a space. The Club really needs to assess all of the classes it runs and whether more of a particular class needs to be added. There are virtual Les Mills classes available which don't look like they're ever booked up/utilised properly - they would be better off adding instructor lead classes in these slots, which would help to reduce the amount of people on waitlists for the same classes the rest of the week. There's only a maximum of 18 in Studio 1 for most classes and sometimes there are an extra 18 people on the waitlist! This needs to be sorted. The other studio seems to be empty most of the time, which seems silly when there's so much demand for particular classes. General Comment I do not agree this is a luxury club, there are so many elements that let it down. They need to sort out these issues, they are just basics - not even luxury demands. It's nicer than some gyms I have been to, but if you're going to promote yourself as luxury you need to uphold your end of the bargain in exchange for the fee your members pay. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. I presume that there is lack of funding from HQ to fix any of the problems, which is a real shame.
Positive experience: I recently visited Bannatyne Fairfield just to use the facilities and I was pleasantly surprised. The administrator and membership team member were welcoming and happy to help. The pool side facilities are lovely, there’s a quiet and calm atmosphere throughout which is definitely relaxing if you’re on a spa day! They have a place to grab food and Mel the food and beverage manager is absolutely lovely! She was very friendly and made time for us, to have a chat! We’ll be back soon!
Positive experience: It is great gym and spa facility, but it doesn't cater for children under 16. Restaurant was not selling pizza and fresh orange juice that I ordered, but panini was OK. Service was good too.
Positive experience: The spa itself is lovely and very spacious, a bit of a maze to work out where your going but that’s fine once you have the right direction, compass, Walkie talkie with your partner and an emergency flare incase you get lost. But other then that the facility is clean and very presented. The treatments side was great a little under the time as stated on the website. States on website that it’s 55 minutes but it’s actually around 40 because they wait outside about 10 minutes. Walking between the spa and the restaurant it’s upstairs, around the corner and then almost outside but walking in your robe and swimming shorts. The restaurant itself was lovely. Food was lovely and came very quickly. Not a very extensive menu but lovely food. The staff cannot work together, the treatment side won’t speak to the front of house staff properly if there is a problem and get very short with each other. Which makes for very unpleasant and awkward conversations.
Negative experience: Very disappointing - I rang up a few weeks ago to discuss a day spa pass for my friends birthday and it was explained to me that we could turn up on the day and purchase them. Yesterday me and my friend who had travelled an hour and a half to visit the spa turned up and went to purchase to day spa tickets, the lady on reception asked for ID, I showed my ID but explained that my friend did not bring hers with her, we was refused entry despite my friend offering to show a picture of both her passport driving license. I explained it was my friends birthday and that she had driven an hour and a half to come to the spa so she couldn’t simply pop home and get it, the lady did not seem to care and was very dismissive. I appreciate you have polices in place however you need to make your ID policy more clear on your website, none of this was mentioned to me on the phone when I rang & people don’t tend to bring there purse / ID to spa days . If someone doesn’t drive then you wouldn’t bring your passport to a spa day would you! This ruined my friends birthday and despite me recommending your spa several times in the past I won’t be doing it again or returning . Appalled at this service and situation and i will be emailing head office and taking this further.
Negative experience: Avoid, Avoid, Avoid! This club is absolutely shocking. Terribly maintained facilities. Appalling staff. The machines are always dirty, the showers and changing facilites in poor state of repair and way overpriced compared to near by options. I would recommend any other club in the area than this one. Billy from the memberships team had the opportunity to ask and understand why we were leaving but only seemed interested in contracts and payments. Disappointing and a waste of money
Negative experience: No chance we're coming back. Booked for 2 people to come here for a massage. Initially booked for the 27th 9am but at 8am we were called to say only one of us could have our treatments due to staff sickness. Changed to NYE. Got to the club early to use the gym which is included in the cost. When checking in we were told nothing about where everything is. We werent able to be given our towels/robs as they had none clean/ready. Went down to the changing rooms only to find we weren't given the wrist bands needed to lock the lockers. Had to go back up and get one with zero apology. Gym - VERY basic and what little equipment they had in a right state all over the place. Pool/steam rooms/jacuzzi - props to whoever took their photos for them as it looked nothing like it did in photos. Pool area has 2 lots of wannabe 'influencer' girls taking constant photos area with no staff enforcing the no phone rule. Steam room was more like a sauna rather than steam room. Treatments - We both had a Swedish neck, shoulders and back massage. Before our treatments, a member of staff came to say we needed to refill in the online forms we'd already completed due to our visit being rescheduled. Our massages were due to start at 15:15 but because of the forms and the staff not coming back to get us, they didn't start until gone 15:20. After just 16 minutes into an already short 25 minute slot, we were told we were finished and that's it. Changing rooms - VERY dated with dirty shower floors. You have to press a button every 30 seconds to keep the water going. The showers look like something you'd see in a school built in the 70s. whilst my girlfriend was trying to get ready, a member of staff was bluntly telling her they were closing (we were not informed they closed at 4pm) and she had to leave. She hasn't even gotten to dry her hair and was shown out. How rude! We won't be coming back to this awful club and I advise anyone reading this to save their money and go elsewhere. Side note - you have to pay £10 to rent an old dry robe.
Negative experience: Bought a Christmas voucher gift on December 13th. It’s December 30th and no signs of that voucher. Can’t get my head around businesses that charge an additional fee for postage and yet they decide to post by Royal Mail during their countless strikes when instead they could have chosen to please a repeating customer and used DHL, UPS or any others. Providing a tracking number is always a big plus. I have now requested an online voucher but I’m told it takes at least two days to process this despite the fact that my money was taken 17 days ago and a completely failed attempt at going the extra mile for a customer who had no Christmas gift for his wife. Not even an attempt to refund me for the failed postage. Awful customer service. Update 30/12: Lee from customer service has refused to refund the postage charges as they sent the voucher “in good faith”. Too bad they can’t appreciate I never received it. I will not come back to this place ever.
Positive experience: Great treatments and location. All went as planned. First time visiting as had been put off by negative reviews but neednt have worried. We booked a spa morning package (which includes a robe, towel and flip flops in the price) and my wife and I had 2 treatments and used the pool facilities. Only reason it didnt get 5 stars is because the jacuzzi was out of use. You can always find things to complain about but the place was clean, staff were professional and friendly, the treatments were great and parking was easy. Would book again.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely afternoon spa offer with my friend this week and it was lovely. We used the pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room then went for our treatments. The hot beds to lie on before your treatments is a nice touch. I had a lovely massage and facial with Angel. We will definitely be back again.
Positive experience: Was really nice and massage was really good. Only disadvantage is that deposit was needed for robes, didnt accept cash- just card deposit, which took nearly 2 weeks to come back in
Positive experience: Great relaxing spa day which was a birthday treat. Staff were friendly and treatment I had which was an extended massage also great. The only let down was quality of towels. I had to ask for mine to be changed as it was stained. Also they felt rough on the skin.
Negative experience: I have bought spa days here annually for the past 4 or 5 years and this time, we all said how we feel it's really gone downhill. Attended on 5th November and the swimming pool was dirty (plasters on the floor) and there were no bubbles in the jacuzzi. Seats in the steam room felt particularly sweaty as though they needed a wipe down. No where to sit around the pool and the pool itself was freezing, lots of people standing around not sure really what to do. Prices have gone up for towel and robe rental. Some of the party's treatments were slightly shorter than they should have been, although must say my massage with Hope was lovely. Bistro used to be great but hardly any menu options, and also ran out of cake options by 1pm, so we cancelled our booking and went elsewhere. It was the shortest spa day I've ever had! Was not asked how our day was on handing our towels and robe in so did not bother to give feedback however I want to leave this review so others avoid wasting their money, as its not cheap! Really gutted as we used to love coming here, but we won't be back.
Positive experience: The experience itself was wonderful. I did feel a bit alooked down on by the girls on reception though. They could be a bit warmer.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful spa but would benefit from more loungers in the pool area. Loved the hot beds. Had a lush facial and massage by Angel , made me feel relaxed and like a new woman ! Thanks so much x
Negative experience: Was given a present by our daughter a spa day. Jacuzzi out of order, showers outside steam room freezing cold, wife did not get her head massage which was included in the price and had to pay for towels which were ridiculous small towels. When complained were given another spa day which was no good to us as we had to travel 1hr and 45minutes. Asked if we could get it nearer to Wimbledon where we live but was declined.
Negative experience: Should have read reviews before booking spa treatments as a lot of people are complaining about the same thing. Do not book and back neck and shoulder massage here, treatment is literally 15 minutes as for some reason they don’t allow enough turn around town so it’s all included in your booking. Consultation is non existent but also included in the time. The massage itself was not good, as someone who is Elemis massage trained I know what to expect and this is not it. They won’t refund me for the poor treatments and I don’t want to have the same experience again which was offered. They are charging like £40 or more for 15 mins of massage which is ridiculous. Save yourself the time
Positive experience: Had a great massage at the spa. Booked this experience in advanced and I was looking forward to it. Very relaxing massage & staff were very friendly & helpful especially at the restaurant. Struggled to find parking, a lot of cars parked over 2 spaces so could not fit in for a while. At the pool there were only 4 sun beds and roughly 6 chairs which weren't very comfortable to relax in. People left their towels on the chairs which meant there wasn't anywhere to relax apart from upstairs in the spa. Changing rooms were very dirty. Hair was everywhere. There is a separate sauna for both men and women but not 1 to go in together. The pool is nice but not very big. Jacuzzi was quite hit & miss as the bubbles were not consistent so more like a warm bath. The cafe had a lot of starchy meals, not any salads just as a side. Although the massage was really nice & good, the spa experience itself didn't equate. The experience seemed over priced for what was given.
Fantastic experience: Great place to relax and plenty of facilities if you would like a luxurious day out. Provides great treatments and staff are very Friendly. Would return again.
Positive experience: Ascetically pleasing spa and one of my favourites but gets boring after about two hours. It is a health club so be prepared for swimming classes to occur. The Swedish massages are great
Positive experience: Decent but generally lacking the nicer touches like available towels, free robes or slippers. Little or no product in shower and changing rooms. The pool, gym and steam facilities are all good. While this could be amazing the lack of the little things and considerations leave this at a 3 star.
