Negative experience: Don’t like how dirty the machines are… went once won’t go again

Negative experience: The gym itself is good, however there is no disabled parking. I say that because even though there are two disable spots the gym members and staff use it for their cars and when we asked about it and showed my disabled badge, I was told it wasn’t their problem. Tonight a staff member was standing with a member of the public ( not in gym clothes) chatting. No disabled badges visible. If you are a disabled person you should use your badge. It’s very sad to see the gym staff have no regard for disabled people.

Negative experience: This gym is the worse gym you could ever sign up to you can’t even cancel your membership if you don’t have a valid reason to they will just keep charging you and charging you there help line are no help what a joke

Negative experience: Steam room been out of order for 5 weeks. Ladies showers totally cold. No toilet roll in loo. No water available at all. Plus had to wash my flip flops before leaving for the amount of dirt it picked up walking around.

Positive experience: If you join the gym for sauna or steam than forget it because its never works and staff don't give aa shit

Fantastic experience: What a greeting, the friendliest, nicest man. Just what you need in the morning, front desk staff member, he was great.

Negative experience: Unwelcoming/unhelpful staff, broken equipment, very limited equipment (we had to wait for every part of our workout). We have now cancelled our membership and have been told that we will have to pay for 6 weeks for 2 visits as this is company policy

Negative experience: After being a member for 2 years, my partner and I are leaving this gym. Staff very friendly, cheap subs, but a significant proportion of the equipment is always broken. At a count last time I went, 10 bits of kit. Three complaints to management who don’t respond.

Negative experience: Thieves. Disgusting customer service. Cancelled membership, still charging 3 months later and refusing to refund. This was on pay as you go. Avoid this gym at all costs!

Positive experience: It is a reasonably priced membership. The only downside is the equipment repair response time... some equipment is out of use and doesn't seem to be addressed with any urgencies.

Negative experience: Thieves operate here and nothing is done about it. Wouldn't even look at the CCTV or try to identify who stole our things. We won't be returning. Also, the gym itself is mediocre, it's small and many of the machines are the same. Doesn't feel nice to be there.

Negative experience: If you want a gym where there’s no air con, water dispenser, broken equipment which takes months to be fixed & an all round horrible experience then this gym is for you!! Full of teenagers on their phones, worst gym I have EVER been to, I wouldn’t even call it a gym.

Negative experience: Its ok at best. Like many others have said, equipment is old, always broken, sometime without a notice on the machine. They need to replace the machines and have more upto date ones installed. If you don't work during the day it's better, but after 4pm it's awful. It's always full of teenagers just standing round chatting on their phones. Not enough benches. No air con, which is very unhealthy. No water filter. And, never any staff upstairs, which can be risky imo. The whole room needs an overhaul and a better layout. Stopped using the pool as you can't ever swim properly, get dirty looks off people if you want to train. Too many classes and family swim time... why can't you block out a large chunk of time for those who want to train. Old and outdated also. I was asked twice in the space of 10 mins by two men, when I would be done using a machine. I felt very harrassed and uncomfortable, they didn't ask a male this on any other machine. I felt I needed to finish my workout sooner. This place doesn't have a positive atmosphere to me. Think I'll be joining somewhere else once my membership is up.

Negative experience: No privacy whatsoever, a person with a tripod was filming her TikTok body positivity videos in the gym section where I was working out without my consent, I complained to the staff, but they said that they can't do anything about it. The gym is dirty, there are fist-sized clumps of dust in the studio and the gym. Awful music, some off-key "artist" is singing about breakups to the tune of Crazy Frog and other hits from early 2000s. I cancelled my membership, I still have 10 days left in the month but they have revoked my access and said that they are going to charge me for another month, in short they have overcharged me for 40 days. Basically stole £40, not including going to the gym in vain.

Negative experience: Decided to use my details for spam texts, when my details were purely provided as an emergency contact for a friend who was using the gym. Spam texts say to text END to a premium rate number. Absolute con.

Positive experience: Clean and comfortable gym ; spacious changing rooms with showers & lockers & friendly staff. Great access for non-drivers (5mins from both train & bus Station) Great price especially 4 those just starting in their fitness journey. But not 4 me -I had to leave after my second month as the few classes offered were only 30 or 45 mins @ a time......with nothing during the day! I am looking 4 a different experience ;( Limitd classes bt also only 2-4 ppl involved. For me connecting socially is the same priority as my fitness .....and more when I have recently moved

Positive experience: Kids swim here for lessons The lessons are amazing and I can't recommend them more. Sadly the showers are horrendous literally stay on for 10 seconds and washing hair is not fun.

Negative experience: Illegal work practices, getting staff to work until 11pm then come in at 5.30am. Also they don't care if staff are threatened by nasty members of the public who are allowed to continue their membership. Very understaffed and badly organised.

Fantastic experience: Good clean gym. Plenty of machines to use. Swimming pool is a bonus as is the sauna and steam room.

Negative experience: DONT JOIN THE GYM !! I am an influencer with over 350k followers and was asked by my followers to review the gym as people have had problems with them. So I joined the gym and it was an easy process as expected. The first day I was there 3 equipments was broken and no staff upstairs to make sure everyone was OK or if anyone needed help as most if not all gyms have staff within shouting distance. Not this gym. If you needed staff you would have to run downstairs and through a door to get a member of staff. NOT ACCEPTABLE. The second time I went there with a open mind thinking it was just a fluke the first time......nope ...... no staff again and even more equipment was broken and some of the equipment you had to use pads to boost yourself up because the seats were broken. I have cancelled my membership and have no plans to go there again. AVOID AT ALL COST. Would be better to pay an extra £5 and go to pure gym. Plus pure gym is 24hours and when a machine brakes it is replaced or repaired with 48hours.

Negative experience: The staff are pleasant and the gym is clean. The swimming pool and sauna/steamroom are nice touches. The gym itself is pretty much useless for many people. There is 1 of each machine and many are broken. There is 1 set of each dumbells and it is difficult to be able to get to use the one correct for you. It is very difficult to get on any machine even at low peak times, and when you do, you will have members in extremely unsafe proximity to you (shoulder to shoulder most times). Mind your toes. The space is poorly designed, machines are compacted together, some in eaves. You will very likely bang your head at some point. There is some kind of race track section that takes a huge amount of space, and there is a punchbag section that when in use echos around the whole gym. There are way more treadmills than required. Maybe it is poorly air-conditioned, but it gets extremely hot in there. In the changing rooms, you have teenagers taking selfies in the mirror irrespective of people being naked in the background. I don't really get this gym. Who is their target market? To me, it seems very unfunctional and awkward. If you're there for classes, sauna, and swimming, it's probably great, but the gym itself is just like a large garage gym that's half broken.

Fantastic experience: Love Everlast Gym. Love, love, love, love it for so many reasons. Some of which are for the fact that they have a full size swimming pool, a steam room and a sauna all included in their £20 monthly subscription. Friendly members of staff always welcome you in. I highly recommend Everlast Gym Colchester. You will be as happy as I am since I joined. You will be glad you did join.

Negative experience: there's a machine that's non functional since more than 3 months and no one seems to bothered to get it fix it. Gym is not 24 hours.

Positive experience: Had to wait for a machine and another one was out of order. Otherwise was clean and tidy.

Positive experience: The facilities are adequate and very good value for a group that now meets 3 mornings a week to talk and hopefully exercise at the same time! All the staff are excellent and ALWAYS make you feel at home. We will discuss any subject and as mostly retired we have a long experience of income tax, coffee making, telephones, sport, banking and insurance but not necesairily DIY! A gym is many things to many people and we try to help members do their own thing, conversation is not compulsory but helpful in the heat of the sauna, steam room, or the pain when trying to complete targets! The long awaited refurbishment will hopefully make the LA Fitness/Sports Direct/Everlast gym a super gym for super staff and super members.

Positive experience: Great gym overall and great staff who are always friendly and welcoming. The only downsides are that it does get very busy at peak times and the car park is small.

Negative experience: Avoid! terrible staff apart from the young ones, machines broken all the time, swimming pool packed all the time

Negative experience: Just can't come to terms with the obviously different treatment to people of different skin colour. Some members here are absolutely racists.

Negative experience: Half of the pool is always reserved for swimming lessons During family swimming period, other members are not nice to us as an ethic minority as they often find excuses to tell you off like " you are not supposed to swim on this side", or "why do you swim to me?" (Obviously, they thought it was a standing pool and not for swimming. Huh!) Interestingly, local white kids seem to get away from all mischief in the pool and I never saw them being told off. I may blame unclear instructions f this gym or local white British being racist and intolerant, you choose it. It is not a nice gym to go anyway

Positive experience: I go just for the treadmill and pool mainly. Facilities are ok. The changing rooms/showers don't seem to have changed in years (since before it was Everlast) but it's acceptable.

Positive experience: Moved to this gym from puregym recently due to the number of young people messing about. Much better for 30+ Yrs old but the equipment and facilities are quite dated and in need of updating. Would be a higher rating with new equipment.

Negative experience: The gym equipment is tired and when it's busy there's no hope of getting near any of the free weights. Air con is either not working or is pathetic.

Negative experience: Very few classes to suit me. Aqua aerobics should be run several times a week in the evenings to give you better chance of booking too. I've wasted a years membership on this place

Positive experience: Good and helpful staff. Good facilities but contacting the head office is headache. There is such a lack of co ordination within the company itself

Fantastic experience: Nice little gym but well equipped. My only hope is that the squat rack is moved so that the ceiling doesn't thwart the overhead press. For the price of £20 (12 month tie in) you get the gym, a good sized pool, steam and sauna rooms, as well as large and clean changing facilities.

Positive experience: Os ok as its close to me,but they need some investment

Positive experience: The general vibe of the gym is pleasant, however, in recent times I've noticed there aren't any paper towels to wipe down machines which sucks. There is no water dispenser either and if you forget your water bottle you have to purchase at reception. Finally my biggest pet peeves at the moment are how a few of the machines are in need of repair. The displays for the rowing machines for example haven't been working for close to a year with no repair in sight, the number of rowing machines have also been reduced. Some of the bikes now feel unstable and overall I feel they haven't invested in the up keep of these machines. When my membership expires this summer, I think I'll be going elsewhere. The car park is also tiny, this morning there was a massive queue just to park. More investment is required.

Positive experience: It is a Decent gym. Crowd is fine. There are classes which are pretty good on a daily basis both morning and evening. Swimming pool is temperature controlled which is the best part and sauna and steam rooms are also there. Steam and sauna could have been bigger as it gets crowded sometimes. Rest staff is always available for help and are very friendly. Meets all basic requirements.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great price which includes the pool and classes.

Negative experience: Bad quality and expensive. Old, dingy and overpriced. The squat racks are too low, there are no resistance bands and the ceilings are too low to shoulder press under. To top it all off, after cancellation later in the month, I was told to cancel the direct debit on my side (which I couldn't do because it hadn't been taken yet) and led to believe I could get my money back, which I could not after sitting on hold for half an hour. Now I have memberships at two gyms and can't get my money back at this one, what a waste of money. Do yourself a favour and go to PureGym, it's cheaper and better.

Fantastic experience: Went to pure gym this afternoon and was very unimpressed. This is much better!

Positive experience: I was a member there when it was LA Fitness. In it's present form it outdoes the old gym. Much cleaner and the shower dispensers are always topped up. Very good equipment although the rowing machines need to be looked at. Only a few have working display consoles and the occasional foot strap is missing. Never seems to be any staff in the gym so I have no one to go to for advice or assistance. Being a fit seventy eight year old it would be nice to think a trained member of staff was around in case of emergency. It's much better than my last gym and I am happy to stay a member.

Fantastic experience: Really good gym. Staff are really friendly and welcoming so it has a good vibe. Good selection of classes too. Parking can sometimes be an issue but overall it's generally fine.
