Fantastic experience: Took my children swimming here, friendly staff and clean changing facilities, warm pool not to busy. Easily booked online before I arrived

Negative experience: Following surgery told I had to start physio, I approached Horwich Leisure Centre on the 6th June and enquired about joining fees, when my options were explained I opted for a non contract monthly fee, with Blue Light and £20 joining fee it was going to be a little over £30, "why don't you do a trial 7 days then join" it was suggested by the young lady behind the counter, why not I thought. On the 10th June I received a call from Horwich Leisure centre "hows your trial 7 days going?", "good" I explained, "will you be joining us?", "yes, on Thursday", "thats great, see you then". I attended Horwich Leisure centre on the Thursday 13th to be told that we don't do monthly you have to have a contract, when I explained the circumstances I was told that someone has misspoke and that was part of a deal that we don't do anymore. Clearly they have no idea what they have are doing, as someone who has worked sales in the fitness industry, you don't let a membership go.

Positive experience: Need to sprt the car park out

Fantastic experience: Always had a good experience at Howrich.. children get free swimming if they live within the Bolton area and sign up for a free leisure card. Pools are nice and well kept. There’s a little shop at swimming reception selling swim toys, goggles and costumes, also vending machines around the centre. Haven’t used the gym facilities.

Negative experience: It’s too busy, the leisure centre takes on more members than it can hold. No matter what time of day you go to the gym it’s always full. I will not be renewing my membership when it’s up due to struggling getting on the equipment. Not to mention the price increase mid contract but for what? Probably one of the worst gyms I have been too.

Positive experience: 5 a side pitch pretty decent

Negative experience: Swimming lessons are bedlam. Overcrowding as kids try to get in and out of the one pool entrance. Parents on pool side in shoes, parents in the showers -in shoes, dirty workwear. Boiling hot. Just horrendous. The staff never say anything about people with their shoes on. I've reported twice and still nothing is done

Negative experience: Membership price has been increased but for what exactly? The machines are old and some of the fabric on the machines are ripped. There aren’t enough smaller weights. No 6kg or 8s. The button on the stepper machine to decrease the level doesn’t work. The car park is always full and the potholes are a huge issue. Won’t be renewing next year

Negative experience: Discrimination! I brought the kids for swimming and because they looked different they were picked one. Both my kids know how to swim. Because the 10 yrs old looked different with full body suite, she were instructed to be tested full length up and down swimming test before she can go to the deep side. Other girls within her age but were white were jumping in the deep end no wards were said to them!! We were the only one to be instructed. Unfortunate and appalling

Positive experience: Lunchtime lane pool swim. Everything as it should be, other than a bit warm for me in changing room, but likely OK for most.

Fantastic experience: Nice facilities - the daughter and I enjoy swimming here. Always clean and never too busy.

Negative experience: Car parks always rammed, can never get on the weights and the pot holes are massive in the car park could easily cause damage to your car. Staff are helpful none of the issues are there fault

Negative experience: Very disappointed with HLC, my parents were paying for swimming lessons for my 2 year old son but sadly my mums health has taken a very serious turn and she can no longer take my him swimming, it’s not safe for either, not only that, she can no longer look after him due to her health so obviously she’s bad… Anyway she was in a ‘rolling contract’ for the lessons so she cancelled the direct debit. She got a very nasty email saying she was in arrears and would now have a late payment fee and so on, my mum was very upset about the email and ended up going in to HLC and speaking to someone who also treat her pretty bad & has made her send a PRIVATE medical letter just to be able to cancel without having additional payments. It’s such a shame because my son really did love his swimming lessons but sadly circumstances meant he cant go anymore until mums better IF she gets better! One things for sure, because of this whole saga I won’t be letting her take him here again if she does end up well enough to take him again. Another thing to mention is, when she last took him the pool was freezing, she was really c old so obviously my son would be freezing and she said he looked freezing to !!

Fantastic experience: If you can book on to Mollies or Sarah's classes here, they are worth the membership alone! By far the best instructors in the area.

Negative experience: Staff are rude and the pool is barley open and when it is you can't get in due to booking online , life guards have no clue and a shout out to the old life guard with curly hair ( no.idea her name as she refused to tell me) she should not be allowed near anyone so rude just a bad place.

Fantastic experience: Been today with my 2 grandson we love it at Horwich . We have always gone to Horwich swimming from my 2 kids being young and we are now taking there children.

Positive experience: I deliberately chose a women only swimming session and was very surprised to find shared changing rooms for both men and women, including shower area. There were plenty of cubicles, though, to get changed in private. I wasn't put off by this and will go again, but I think there should be a note on the website to advise women who may find it distressing to be in such close proximity to men. I chose the session just so that it would be quieter for my first visit there. The centre is lovely and modern and staff were very helpful. Will be visiting again to go swimming.

Negative experience: Never answer the phone. I have tried multiple occasions on various days and I swear the phone must be there for decoration!!!!

Negative experience: Overly complex booking system. Car park a mess. Needs to start serving the community better and not just aimed at making more. Opening hours are poor especially at weekends.

Positive experience: Gym is ok.. could be a couple of better cable machines in there though and the car park is shocking in need of urgent repairs

Fantastic experience: free parking, reasonable prices for badminton court, some building work going on ATM. So less parking space than usual

Negative experience: Turned up to go swimming as usual this morning to be told that you have to book on. Whoever thought this idea up needs to actually ask the people that use the pool. RIDICULOUS

Positive experience: Used the pool, adequate changing rooms and showers . Main pool and small one for young children. Pool areas were clean and tidy. Viewing balcony for spectators which has no accessibility restrictions.

Negative experience: Turned up for a swimming session with a baby, to be turned away from the little pool. Upon hearing the conversation of the people in front the receptionist told the person in front that kid was too big for the small pool, but they would allow him this time. We was then turned away. Surely the rules are there to be followed to allow other families with a BABY as such to use the facilities that they provide. Disappointing and most definitely won’t be returning.

Positive experience: Lots of dirt on swimming pool floor and showers so hot I lost a layer of skin

Fantastic experience: Arrived for a pay as you go swim, not my usual swimming pool to attend but much more availability to swim during the day at Horwich. James was on the desk, I front of me was 2 ladies with their children - James was really accommodating for their needs and greeted with a warm manner. James greeted me with the same approach and demeanour. Even quickly advised me on memberships in case I was thinking of returning. A great experience, definitely will be returning.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with a friendly atmosphere. Been training with Joe one of the members of the team great guy. Really coming on with the progress thanks to his help. Just wish the opening times were better on a Saturday as I work so can't get there but that's the only negative.

Positive experience: The centre is very good fairly new and clean modern equipment. The main pool was out of order when we were there and the smaller toddler pool was far too cold for young children/babies. Unsure if this was a once off or it is always too cold.

Fantastic experience: We went on a Sunday afternoon and expected it to be rammed full. But we're pleasantly surprised to see they still has the lanes out for swimmers of different ability, and they were almost empty.

Fantastic experience: Love this leisure centre! Staff always helpful, nice and clean changing rooms and swimming pool is actually quite warm. Very good for the little ones when you go to the family session as they have floaties out to help any young swimmer and make it playful! at Bolton One they dont allow this.

Positive experience: Gym times are inconvenient on weekend, not for everyone but closing 5.30pm on a Saturday and 6pm is really bad especially in winter.

Positive experience: Was here for a child's birthday party in the basement room, there was room for a bounce house, lifts to get downstairs and easy access and parking.

Negative experience: Great for lessons. Hardly any family swim time available though. Never answer the phone. Seems to me the swimming is a facility to make money through providing lessons rather than being a community sports centre for family well being.

Negative experience: Car park is hell, potholes, way to few spaces, cramped muddy and not fit for purpose.

Fantastic experience: The pool facility at horwich leisure centre is great, not tried the fitness suite but will in time. Pool area clean, staff great, showers very good. Nothing to add to improve.

Positive experience: Our family has tried to ring to book court in the sports hall for days now. Continually no replies. Though overall lovely sports facilities and friendly staff. Seating area fantastic too, with everything at a reasonable price.

Negative experience: Wouldn't take our group, they kicked us out even though we did nothing wrong. Absolutely appalling behaviour from a jobsworth on reception.

Fantastic experience: The center is very good, it's clean, equipment are in good condition and the rooms are perfect for exercising. They have plenty of options, from gym (with the option of classes), to 2 swimming pools and a covered pitch for football/basketball also have gymnastic for kids! They have parking space ( not sure if will be there for long as it is not tarred). Definitely recommend!!

Negative experience: I find it frustrating that the pool is shut between 4-6.30 pm for children's swimming lessons when it's the summer holidays. Surely these can be ran during the day to allow those who work full time jobs to use the pool after work?

Positive experience: The gym is better equipped than yhe David Lloyd gym i go to, I only call in as my son has swimming lessons here. If I lived closer I would join.

Fantastic experience: Nice friendly staff. Only just joined and I did my first circuit training with Steve the instructor who kept his eye on me, asking how I was in case I overdid it Really enjoyed myself. ,

Positive experience: Excellent gym and swimming facilities, full 25 metre pool, 2 metres at its deepest end. They also have a dedicated separate pool used for teaching and for parent & child sessions.

Positive experience: Viewing gallery very poor. If you are sitting on the 2nd row of seats you can't see anything. Bad planning.

Fantastic experience: don’t think i could fault this gym, i’ve been a member for about 3 months and all staff have been supportive, i lost my key today and the staff at reception were so helpful, i got a call off the reception a few days ago asking how my membership was and asking if i’ve been using the full facilities and letting me know about other things i can do

Fantastic experience: I go for cardiac exercise. Good 1 hour circuit for people who have suffered past heart attacks. Good gym and pool.

Negative experience: Lessons great - in particular swimming. Our daughter has benefited a lot. Front desk staff can be rude and not very attentive - usually management. Don’t try and phone - they never answer, you can turn up 10 minutes later and the place is empty. Not sure if they have the phones on mute intentionally at times. Although lessons great, the first impressions let the whole place down.

Negative experience: Never answer phones, get there and it's quiet 2 mins later. When you address it you get attitude. So rude and unprofessional. Paid to work or paid to sit there? 2 of them doing nothing when I walked in. Customer service is key. Not rudeness! Sort your staff out.

Positive experience: A bit crowded but understandable why as the gym has a great variety of equipment and there is a nice swimming pool downstairs, though it might seem a bit cold to some.

Positive experience: Good local leisure centre. Spent a good 45 minutes swimming and paddling with my children. Very clean changing facilities and kind staff. £4 per adults
