Hoo Sports Centre, located in Rochester, United Kingdom, is a welcoming community hub that offers a variety of amenities for sports enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors often praise the centre for its friendly and helpful staff and clean facilities.
Highlights of Hoo Sports Centre include:
- Swimming Lessons: Many users commend the excellent swimming lessons available, suitable for all ages.
- Good Gym Facilities: The gym is described as adequate and well-maintained, with a good variety of equipment, although some find it a bit small.
- Affordability: The centre offers competitive pricing, making it accessible for many locals.
- Family-Friendly Environment: With a teaching pool and toddler area, it's perfect for families looking to introduce their children to swimming.
However, the centre does have areas to improve upon:
- Changing Rooms: Numerous reviews mention that the changing rooms need a thorough cleaning and updating.
- Pool Maintenance: Although the pool is generally well-received, some visitors note that it could use refurbishment and deeper cleaning efforts.
- Parking Issues: During peak times, parking can be challenging due to high visitor volumes.
In summary, Hoo Sports Centre has a lot to offer, with its commitment to cleanliness, friendly service, and a variety of activities. Despite a few areas needing improvement, many patrons leave with fond memories and a desire to return.
Hoo Sports Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Needs a revamp. I visit for 2 daytime classes a week. Lack of gym equipment in the fitness room. Dumbells and equipment etc are dirty. Need more daytime classes.
Negative experience: Why do you allow naked showing?? No need of it. You can do that at home.
Positive experience: Great swimming lessons
Positive experience: Granddaughters party,great service
Negative experience: Changing rooms dirty. floors need wiping very slippery
Fantastic experience: Really friendly and helpful staff. Has clean facilities too.
Positive experience: Good sports centre with all required amenities and good for swimming lessons
Fantastic experience: Good gym :)
Negative experience: Only left 2 stars because they updated the other small gym that we enjoy going, otherwise very poor gym. The changing rooms are smelly with the lovely diaper smell that people leave in the bins, not to mention it’s always dirty. Today was another great experience when I wasn’t allowed into the female changing rooms because of the kids? I remember when we signed up for this gym there was nothing mentioned that we can change in the changing rooms AT CERTAIN TIMES, when I went into the family changing rooms it was all occupied by the SAME KIDS and of course men in it. Where I’m supposed to change? It’s an absolute joke. What’s more important to this gym, paying customers which pay extortionate fees for this type of gym or the kids on a school trip??? I’m coming to work out and I’m not allowed to change and was kicked out of the female changing rooms. Never have I had this in ANY GYM. Not to mention you cannot park at this gym at the times of 2-3pm because of all the lovely parents that sleep in their cars and pick up their kids. One word, “lovely gym”. Unfortunately, we are stuck in it because there’s nothing else close by sadly.
Fantastic experience: Took my son here for an inflatable obstacle course in the pool at Easter. It was our first time at the leisure centre. We got a kind and chatty welcome from the women on reception. A great first impression on what turned out to be a really fun visit. We'll be back!
Positive experience: This review is only concerned with a swimming pool visit. We've been trialling Medway pools in the last few weeks. After Strood (very dirty) and Medway Park (changing rooms dirty, smelled like worst public toilets, pool water cloudy) we were pleasantly surprised. PROS: Free parking. Friendly reception staff. Changing rooms basically clean, no nasty smell. Lockers as before, £1 refundable. Small family changing room section available. Showers are hot and reasonably clean. Toilets clean. Pools (2, lengths one and a teaching pool, 0.8m deep) are in reasonable condition and tiles are clean. Signage clear. CONS: water a little cloudy, but nothing like Medway Park. Both male and female changing rooms feed into the family bit before accessing the pool, which may be a privacy concern to some. This is not a new pool and parts look tired. VERDICT: Overall, a little tired in places but on balance clean and well-maintained.
Positive experience: Lovely small sports centre. Would recommend!
Positive experience: *Can only speak for the Swimming pool* Not used the other facilities but we've been going to this swimming pool for the past few weeks now. We will definitely continue to go on a regular basis now... Affordable even if you don't have a membership, friendly staff. I'd honestly say about an 7 out of 10 for cleanliness there's a few little things here and there that could be improved, but overall pretty damn nice for a cheap swim. Outdated but perfectly functional. There's plenty of showers and space to get changed (when they did break tho, it took weeks and weeks to fix) and there is a family changing room as well as women and mens... will definitely be continuing our Monday evening and Thursday evening swims when we can. Super close to home so it's easy to get to, would recommend to anyone nearby. Disability friendly as far as I'm aware. There even seems to be a device for wheelchair users to be lowered into the pool in the shallow end. EDIT: They changed the whole rota in the new year! We had to stop going because we're not members not sure why members only swimming is even a thing considering weekdays always seemed quiet enough to me.
Fantastic experience: Go there every week
Fantastic experience: Love it
Fantastic experience: Fond memories of getting the bus from the Angel in Strood to Hoo swimming pool as it was the only one in the area . Loved it and love the fact that it really hasn't changed much .. Is that good though ?
Fantastic experience: Very good sports centres and buildings and restaurants it's 5 star! The pool is very warm nice staff and less crowded than you would think.
Fantastic experience: Surprisingly large and well equipped. The staff I've met so far have been very helpful and positive. Plus they do brilliant membership schemes. Loving it so far.
Positive experience: I actually like this place. Its small, it's cute and have lots of interesting factor especially the fact that the pool is quite warm in comparison to Strood. Will be coming back here.
Positive experience: Hoo Sports Centre was fun and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I visited the sports center for an afternoon swim and I am pleased to say that the pool and the changing facilities were fine. Not crowded and very welcoming.
Positive experience: Good facility. 25m pool and also has a teaching pool. Many activities plus has a good gym.
Fantastic experience: Pool could do with some refurbishment, as can the changing rooms, but overall a great pool, nice and big and never too packed. Great for teaching the kids and baby pool is great too. Family splash is wonderful.
Positive experience: Clean pool. No too busy. Lane swimming and casual swimming.
Fantastic experience: Good pool and gym though both are small. Great vibes.
Negative experience: I’m literally in the car park at this very moment writing this (14th July 2023. 20:09pm) I’ve been visiting this centre since my early childhood, it holds a lot of fond memories but after today, I can honestly say I will NOT be coming back here again. To keep it brief, myself, as well as others, found it impossible to have a half decent swim because four teenage boys were playing volleyball right in the middle of the main pool. Causing quite a disruption. However, my gripe isn’t so much with them (I wasn’t much different at their age) my problem is with the lifeguard staff themselves. We had two male lifeguards just standing around talking to each other while all this is going on. Neither acted by simply blowing their whistle and telling the lads to wind it in. If anything, one of the members of staff seemed more concerned with how his hair looked! This is either down to them not having a backbone or just lack of care. Either way, me and quite a few of patrons were far from impressed. Again, I would NOT recommend
Positive experience: Lovely pool, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great pool friendly staff
Fantastic experience: First time visiting here for daughters swimming lessons, lovely friendly reception and clear directions to where we needed to go.
Fantastic experience: Excellent centre. If it has what you want give it a try. Smallish but free car park.
Fantastic experience: Great pool for casual swimming
Positive experience: Needs a bit of a deep clean.
Negative experience: Everything is dated, and the staff are miserable
Fantastic experience: Great to be back at the pool and the staff there are very helpful and supportive
Negative experience: Their website says different things to their swimming timetable when you go to the centre, wasting my time.
Negative experience: Changing rooms for the pool are grim
Fantastic experience: Good place for swimming, loved it
Positive experience: Friendly staff I'm enjoying my swimming there easy access into the pool steps not ladders
Positive experience: Take our grandson and granddaughter swimming and they love it.
Negative experience: Just visited and was greeting by the rudest women I think I have in many year's thanks I won't be coming back
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff make this a great place to visit
Fantastic experience: Very clean and friendly
Positive experience: OK bit small
Fantastic experience: Nice local leisure centre, friendly staff, gym has everything you need without ever getting too busy.
Fantastic experience: This is the first time I have been swimming at Hoo pool for quite a few years. I think the changing rooms have been refurbished since my last visit and I found the pool to be excellent. I chose the latest casual swim time and arrived at 6:45pm the pool was really quiet and the changing rooms were clean and showers hot. We had a lovely leisurely swim, I'll definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff, great facilities, highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Godly
Positive experience: The changing area really needs some money spending on it. It is freezing cold and most of the changing curtains are missing in the male changing room. Other than that it's a nice place, very small but there isn't much they can do about that.
Positive experience: Having experienced only the pool and it's attached facilities I can't really give an overall review, but everything you would expect in the pool department. Reasonably sized changing rooms with cubicles if desired, and a clean and well sized pool to swim in!
Fantastic experience: Very good covid safe well controlled.
Positive experience: Clean!
Fantastic experience: Great Staff , always clean and tidy Thank you to all the staff
Fantastic experience: Clean environment, polite and friendly staffs.
Positive experience: We only noticed the park because we were turning around in the car park and I'm so glad we did. It's a lovely little park. The baby absolutely loved it!
Positive experience: Nothing special and a pain for parking
Positive experience: Not the cleanest or best equipped gyms but enough there to get a decent workout and usually quiet too.
Fantastic experience: A lovely local sports centre
Fantastic experience: Great baby/training pool and loved the Aqua Tots class which is pay as you go, much better than block payments!
Negative experience: bad pool
Positive experience: As expected, sometimes needs a good clean otherwise okay.
Fantastic experience: Went to go swimming around 4pm. There was no kids unsupervised and loads of room in the pool. Lovely swim
Negative experience: The gym is one of the worst I've used, no decent music, air con is non existent, machines are average at best. Its cheap for a reason
Positive experience: Good, taking into account they're obviously doing works to update it.
Positive experience: Had fun swimming but when you get out its too cold and the water pressure for showers isnt good
Positive experience: Good for young children, now a little dated.
Positive experience: Found it a pleasent and relaxing place.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff
Positive experience: Starts to look a bit run down but great if you like a quiet swim
Fantastic experience: Love this place
Fantastic experience: Nice pool. Not to crowded.
Positive experience: Easily accessible, affordable and friendly service
Positive experience: A small sports facility ~Staffed by friendly helpful people offering a welcoming atmosphere. A variety of options ~ fitness/leisure & racket persuits. Always clean but guilty perhaps of showing its age in some places, would definitely benifit from some TLC. Lots of options ~ It has good parking & is served by a regular bus service. Nite:- It's good to find all of the well used Gym equipment working. That said it's not just a Gym or Swimming Pool with other offerings for the very youngest - to those well past retirement. Including instruction classes. Council run = Please use it or it could be "Loose it" ILB
Fantastic experience: I really like it there as it is a very good place to do triathlon training which is what i do there is also a small pool for younger children. Parents can easily monitor them from a viewing area on the left when you are in the pool it is very spacious and is very welcoming. The changing rooms and toilets are clean which i am glad as some as you may agree can be disgusting.
Positive experience: Friendly staff
Positive experience: Friendly staff
Negative experience: Dated for a swimming pool etc let's knock it down and start again
Positive experience: The kids didn't seem very welcome as the older locals seemed to snub them and they felt like they couldn't play as much, apart from that the swimming pool is nice and the kids enjoyed it in the end playing in the small pool away from the locals.
Positive experience: Lovely swimming pool. Always nice and warm. X
Fantastic experience: Good sports centre a great place to workout
Positive experience: Clean, empty and free parking - would be good if they had individual shower cubicles though
Positive experience: Needs doing up ,looking a bit dated now
Positive experience: Friendly place to be.
Fantastic experience: Ok simple but good classes. I take my son swimming lessons here and I can't fault their teaching. Changing rooms are a little dated but I think that's the same with most swimming pools. But staff are always friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Took the aquazumba class with the amazing Zoe. ... only complaint is the state of the floors in the changing rooms. Absolutely filthy !!! They should be being hosed and swept constantly in my opinion !!!!
Fantastic experience: Covid secure arrangements removed.
Fantastic experience: A very nice gym
Positive experience: Staff are friendly and helpful. Pools are clean and warm enough in the cold weather. Toddler pool is lovely. Changing rooms could do with a sprucing up and a thorough clean around the locker areas, but not so bad it stops us going. Float sessions are great for kids.
Positive experience: Place looks a little jaded but. Aquafit class on a Monday morning is a great start to the week if you need a boost, it gets busy so book in advance.
Positive experience: Could do with a spruce up but very nice
Positive experience: The pool is great. Easy access into the pool itself and no parking charges in the carpark. The gym is small but well kept. Wish l could say that about the pool changing rooms and toilets but l can't. Normally dirty and sometimes disgustingly so.
Negative experience: The pool area is nice and clean. However the changing rooms are very grotty and have a bad smell about them. You need to shower after using the changing rooms.
Positive experience: Needs serious updating despite the changing rooms in pool had a small overhaul recently . The grime on the steps of pool and floor is horrid. Staff are awesome though
Positive experience: Not bad
Positive experience: Nice clean pool and changing area. Normally quiet compared to some other local pools.
Positive experience: A good local council run sports complex
Positive experience: Nice and quite, good place to take toddlers learning to swim. Could do with more lanes for adults though
Positive experience: Could be cleaner
Positive experience: Decent, clean facilities.
Negative experience: very dirty in the gym changing rooms at the pool. no cleaning service
Positive experience: Great small gym
Positive experience: Swimming pool and gym
