Our comment from FitFit UK about Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre:

Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre in Ruislip is a well-equipped facility that offers a variety of activities for fitness enthusiasts and families alike. Many users praise the friendly and helpful staff, particularly mentioning receptionists like Tilly and Tyson who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience.

The centre boasts excellent amenities including a clean swimming pool, a spacious gym, and various fitness classes. Visitors appreciate the well-maintained facilities and the range of equipment available for workouts. The pool, which is 33 meters long, provides ample space for lane swimming and various aquatic activities, and it is often noted for its cleanliness.

However, some users have expressed concerns regarding certain aspects of the centre. The need for a jacuzzi and more versatile sauna arrangements has been highlighted, as well as occasional issues with the temperature of the pools being too cold. Additionally, there have been reports of unpleasant interactions with some staff members, which detracts from the overall experience.

Despite these minor setbacks, Highgrove Pool and Fitness Centre is regarded as a fantastic local venue, especially for family swimming lessons and fitness training. Many community members recommend it for its supportive atmosphere and diverse offerings.

Fantastic experience: Credit where Credit is due! I want to say a BIG BIG thank you to Tilly, one receptionist. She is kind and considerate. She helped me out when I had a problem last Thursday night. She went above and beyond what was called of her to make sure I was OK as I was was upset. Thank you. Tilly always greets you with a smile, very helpful and is very clued up. Nothing is too much of a problem for her. She is a credit to the face of better. Thank you so much Tilly for you kind considerate manner and help very much appreciated

Fantastic experience: There weren't many people at noon on Saturday. That's a big plus. There are changing rooms, lots of lockers, showers, a nice pool and a gym.

Negative experience: I go here for Lane swimming multiple times every week. Unfortunately today I left after 10 minutes as they blocked off 25% of thr pool for aqua aerobics. The sound system was too loud and it was really unpleasant trying to swim while listening to the instructor barking out instructions over a microphone also turned up so incredibly loud. Was even deafening in the changing rooms. Too many classes being booked in the pool at the same time as lane swimming making swimming really unenjoyable

Fantastic experience: Only pool I could find today in NW London with lane swimming in the evening before 20:00. Had a very pleasant 2K emergency swim before the night shift. 33m pool. Clean facilities. Highly recommended

Positive experience: Friendly staff and clean facilities. Gym is well equipped but usually very busy in the weights area. Main pool is great, but the training pool could be warmer for little ones.

Negative experience: Horrible receptionist at the front desk with a sour look on her face. She is selective about who she wants to help and other times she’s simply lazy about doing her job well. It’s not the one with black hair, she was actually lovely. The other one does not use her initiative to help, you have to prompt her, she also is has a petty unfriendly attitude - kind to some and bitter towards others. Better gym: Please do not employ someone who cannot be equally helpful to all visitors, this girl is unprofessional, unfriendly & bringing the value of the gym down. Management don’t seem to do anything about her selective treatment towards visitors. Classes are good and instructors are friendly - so if you happen to be visiting, ignore the rude receptionist and stay for the instructors. Be warned: if the barrier does not open with your pass she will not log you onto the system to say you attended but just let you through and you’ll be sent a penalty fine. Make sure she logs you in. What a horrible person to face when you’re meant to be coming in for your well-being. She is certainly not an asset to the gym. “Selective helpfulness” with a bad attitude is not acceptable from this receptionist.

Negative experience: Tried for info for Highgrove swim and fitness.(wish I could give no stars) First of all website kept crashing. When you call you think you are getting through to a children's play centre. Then when you phone,I hung on for 20 minutes, person dealing with call didn't know what she was doing. Then line went dead. Fuming!

Positive experience: Fantastic pools, absolutely spotless. The facilities here are all wonderful and the centre feels very modern. However staff can be very unfriendly at times. I visit this pool weekly with a friend, I'm teaching her to swim (she can already swim, just not very well) and was once told by a life guard that I wasn't allowed to teach my friend, and that if she wanted to learn to swim she should enroll in lessons there. (I still teach my friend to swim here and haven't been pulled aside for it since) Second instance, same friend and I were at reception with a pool noodle visible in my swimming bag, we don't use it but I always bring it just incase my friend is nervous. The receptionist was very condescending and almost mocking me because I had one, pointing at it repeatedly saying "since all you want to do it float around and not actually swim". Great centre, staff friendliness needs work.

Positive experience: Again the Sunday male changing room 'deep clean'. Closed between 3.30pm-5.30pm. Helpful suggestion to use the poolside changing room. Not a bad option if it wasn't for the 200 kids having swimming lessons and the parents in tow. You couldn't move in the changing room and the humidity was off the scale. You are wetter before you hit the shower. Impossible to shower with the numbers in the room. So you go home sweaty. Superb. I am a paying member. Clean the chaninging rooms in your time not mine. Or put two people on the job and get it done in 30 minutes. Two hours to clean three shower cubicles, two toilets, three basins and some lino is a bit of a stretch. Sunday afternoon is becoming a no-go time. Shame as the weekend opening hours are tight anyway. Nothing past 5.30pm.

Positive experience: Do aqua classes hear a few times a week , staff friendly , changing rooms goid but sometimes could be a bit cleaner

Tanya Rayner 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Staff on the ground always so helpful and are second to none. Friendly, warm and encouraging environment. Requests dor additional classes heard and acted upon which is great. Venue needs a little more money in certain areas, ie pool side changing rooms could do with regular repairs as sometimes these are left too long.

Fantastic experience: Very clean and staff welcoming. Classes great and equipment. Brilliant classes

Ali Sultani 1 year ago

Negative experience: My children attended swimming lessons here for a year and I had to swap the lessons to Hillingdon Sports & Leisure for better swimming lessons. I found that they didn’t really correct children and would not review their skills frequently unlike in Hillingdon where they have a tablet next to them every week. The swimming space for the kids is very small and hard for them to develop. It’s a small square with very little room for them to go further if they wanted to test themselves a bit more. The worst part was the changing room where grown men would shower and change naked with everything on show in front of young kids. If anyone did that outside I’m sure the parents and public would have something to say but it seems acceptable here. I also blame the adults for doing it and not thinking about the kids.

Fantastic experience: Better Highgrove is absolutely amazing. I use the gym, pool and sauna and all are great facilities. The centre is very well run, with good equipment and is kept clean and tidy. The monthly membership is very good value for money.

thecsslife 1 year ago

Negative experience: I used to go here very regularly a few years ago. Pay as you go membership used to be £1.20, now it is £8.95. Furthermore, the desk staff were incredibly rude - I’ve never experienced anything like it. They wanted me to go so they could keep chatting amongst themselves, even when I was asking for alternate membership options. The lowest standard of professionalism I’ve ever witnessed. GCSE drop outs…

Positive experience: It's a very nice center and all with latest gym equipment, however what saddens me is that there is no diving available despite having three diving boards and upon asking at reception they said they would remove the diving boards which is a great shame. Would love to have a place to dive near me!

Ro Bot 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Please start beginner diving classes for children, it's a skill that's so difficult to find being taught anywhere else. The pools are great, changing facilities good, it's kept clean by the staff. We like it. But offer a diving course please!

Yehor Oriekhov 1 year ago

Negative experience: This is not a 33 meter pool, they are lying to you. Most of the time they are cutting off part of it leaving 28 or 25 meters This is super inconvenient if you are swimming well and want to have proper walls at the ends to make proper push or navigate by pattern on the swimming pool bottom.

Fantastic experience: Joining this gym annually is more cost effective than taking 2 ad-hoc yoga classes per week and you get more for your money. Lots of different fitness classes incl yoga, good equipment, nice new pool, sauna&steam, friendly and helpful staff. Get them to show you around before you commit, they also have monthly and pay as you go arrangements. I am finding it very worthwhile.

Rhiane Green 2 years ago

Positive experience: Lots of equipment however it's almost impossible to find a time the gym isn't really busy. Wouldn't say it's very women friendly, lots of the machines go up in 5kg increments and almost no one strips the plate machines or barbells.

Positive experience: OK pool always a touch cold. Clean changing areas.

Maria DSS 2 years ago

Positive experience: My son used to attend weekly swimming classes for a year. I can safely say that within one year he hasn’t progressed much. They graded him few times and at last grading he got worse mark than at the beginning of the year. I find teachers paying attention to anything but swimmers. My son’s teacher tends to even do a little dance to the centre music during class which wouldn’t be such a problem if they paid attention to individual swimmers. They explain what they want kids to do at the beginning of each round but they fail to observe or correct individual swimmers. Watching teachers for long time I can safely say they do not look much at kids swimming. Firstly, I thought on seeing good swimmers in more advanced classes that their way of teaching must work until I met someone whose kids are doing swimming classes in more professional swim school and attend this one only to practice due to conveniency. So I would suggest find a professional swim school instead of wasting your £ on this swim class. To summarize I have to say I am disappointed and wouldn’t recommend to a friend. The facility itself is quite nice, even though the swimming pool would benefit from an upgrade. Changing rooms spacious, clean and warm.

Negative experience: Took my three children for swimming today. Water was absolutely so cold that they were shivering! Definitely not going back there again!

Linda Mack 2 years ago

Negative experience: Not ideal to be honest!! People sweating then jumping in pool. Sauna and sweat room together. Pretty much turned me off!!. Very over priced £6.00 for 30 min In a little shed. Joke!!!

Jane H 2 years ago

Negative experience: 3rd world conditions at 1st world prices- charging for parking even on a Sunday when there are residential roads for free to pick from (doesn’t encourage keeping the residential address clear), broken showers and no hot water, queues at the side of the pool to get in and staff scooping out vomit from the pool rather than cleaning properly.. If you went 5 days a week at these prices it would cost the same as a rather nice private club subscription This is one to avoid

Amit Kuiya 2 years ago

Negative experience: Nice length pool and teaching pool however the management and policies are not friendly. No flexibility, missing helping attitude and charges are as good as other clubs. Overall not great experience even if good infrastructure as people make the difference

Lilly Loos 2 years ago

Negative experience: I’ve given up with this gym now! No staff ever available to talk to and if you find someone they tell you to go look online or call and then you go through to call centre abroad! I also recently got a parking ticket even though my permit was clearly displayed in the window this took weeks to sort out! Saunas have now been moved and you have to walk through the swimming pool to use them, they are also now unisex, not everyone is comfortable using unisex saunas! It’s supposed to be time out coming to the gym or going swimming but the lack of customer service here or care they have for customers is not ok!

Fantastic experience: Great pool for fitness swimmers - good long lanes

Kevin van Staden 2 years ago

Positive experience: The gym's refurbishment has brought significant improvements, particularly with the new equipment. The new machines are state-of-the-art and offer a wide range of workout options. The gym is also much cleaner and more modern, with a fresh new look. However, there are a few areas where the refurbishment could have been improved. The male and female sauna rooms were removed from the change rooms and a unisex sauna/steam room was placed on the far end of the pool. This is a major inconvenience, as users now have to walk the entire length of the pool to access the sauna. Additionally, the sauna is now located in a public area, where others can watch you from the pool viewing Gallery before and after your Sauna which is horrific when you look like Red Shrek afterwards.. This is a major privacy concern for many people and I most definitely won't be using it anymore...annoying to so the least. Another issue is the faulty installation of the TVs on the treadmills, don't get me wrong, they work until you start running on them, which is very frustrating and should not be happening on brand new equipment. This is a major safety hazard, as it can distract you from your workout and lead to an injury. Overall, the gym's refurbishment has been a mixed bag. The new equipment is great, but the relocation of the sauna is just ridiculous and I would strongly recommend looking at other clubs if that is your primary reason for joining. I hope that the gym will address these issues in the future.

sagar shah 2 years ago

Positive experience: Fantastic swimming pool where the deep end is 3.8 metres deep this ensures non-serious swimmers are filtered out and only good confident swimmers swim full lengths. Changing rooms are clean. The staff members are warm welcoming and friendly. They do have a smaller swimming pool for kids and learners too. Overall, it's a good centre for disciplined swimmers and fitness enthusiasts.

Martin Zabihi 2 years ago

Positive experience: Installation is well organised & hygienic. But I think that a notice board, reminder sign would be appropriate to remind the visitors to wash themselves before entering the pool.

sarah ryder 2 years ago

Positive experience: The pool has changed a lot since I last visited I thought the water was a little cold the heat could be turned up a little I had a swim test I felt like I wasn't given a fair chance as the first length I was warming up and had to stop a couple of times to be told I wouldn't pass the test its a joke I would never do that again

Prakash Halai 2 years ago

Negative experience: Swimming lessons awful. Zero feedback even on their fancy app. Despite several attempts to speak to anyone, no one gets back to you. Waste of money. More than 10 kids per teacher. 4months in my child was put back on arm floats when they were not needed at all. Teachers always change, how do they track the kids development?

Bad Bart 2 years ago

Positive experience: The main reason i joined is to use the sauna and steam but they seem to be closed most of the time weight area is good though

Julie Doyle 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: My review is not for now....but for the pool back in 1965ish! It was fairly newly built. I was 9. I used to walk from my Nan's house when I visited for holidays. I couldn't swim then. Used to watch children being taught in the training pool. One of the instructors noticed me and that I couldn't swim. She took time to teach me (I didn't pay anything)...and every time I visited she'd help me more. She was amazing and it was always enjoyable. I'm 66 now and have never forgotten her kindness.

Positive experience: I do not like that stuff cleaning tiles around the teaching pool with bleach dripping in to a pool while kids are in and there is possibility for them to drink it.

Hasmukh Jethwa 2 years ago

Positive experience: We recently moved to Pinner from Grimsby. We were members of Bannatyne Club in Grimsby, we liked it very much. We have recently tried a 14 day trial at Highgrove. The club is good value for money ambience is more in keeping with a leisure centre than an exclusive club/ spa. I have to book the steam room and sauna so one cannot must turn up the pool is normally busy no drinking water provision showers are communal and cold. Not used the gym but it it's very well equipped. Good value club but lacks exclusivity. I will need to look at other clubs to see what they offer and accept they will probably cost more but it will be a good investment for my health. .

Amit Patel 2 years ago

Negative experience: The sauna/steam room arrangement has been ruined with the refurb. They are now accessed via the wet changing room and you have to walk the length of the pool to get there. You can now no longer call the reception, instead all calls are diverted to the main customer service. If I’d have been able to call the centre I could have found out the sauna hasn’t worked for two weeks before booking and turning up! For some reason the lifeguards opened the steam room door and poked their head in a couple of times, cooling it down in the process. Waste of £7, and why does everything have allocated time slots for booking now?!

Praveen Varghese 2 years ago

Positive experience: I take my son in here for swimming lessons. Happy with the provisions. They have swimming pool, gym, group classes etc. there is ample parking (pay n display) too . Staff seem to be friendly. The only issue I have faced was that their process of changing swimming lessons (days) are very complicated.

Yvonne Rubens 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Clean pool, changing room and showers.I enjoyed 30 lengths in a lane of my own. Very pleasant swim. You will need a £1 coin for the locker.

Travelling Gillespie 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Cons: bad mobile reception once you are in. Layout is a bit of a mess.. you almost need a Thorpe park style map to help you navigate around. No steam room, shower gels / conditioner. I guess it’s a better gym so shouldn’t expect it.. All that said, still a 5 star review… why. Pros: has lots of varied equipment. Swimming pool is large. Reasonably priced.

Positive experience: Currently undergoing a refurb. So next review I think they will again top marks. Great centre, good parking, clean throughout and brilliant staff.

BlixeRemastered 3 years ago

Negative experience: Not that great staff. Some tell you to do something then leave us waiting for 5 mins also they insist on having booking done online. I wouldn't recommend this.

Mr. D Nicholson 3 years ago

Positive experience: Friendly staff, what's lacking is a family changing area. When you have a small child, it's very difficult to get ready after a swim as there is no area where you and your partner can both help each other out, shower and change the little one. Something they should look into. Water was nice, the teaching pool is 0.9m and lifeguards on site throughout.

Aakash Gupta 3 years ago

Negative experience: Hi, Please read my detailed feedback/review. My daughter will be 6 in October and she is going here from Feb’2022. It’s been around 5-6 months. 1. No changing room for family, I take my daughter to males changing room and most of the time people taking bath with complete clothes off. It’s little annoying but I turn her face/close eyes or do something to distract her. 2. When you enrol for monthly debit, they charge for a month in advance…that’s totally fine but if you need to discontinue, they need a month notice and by that time direct debit will be done so basically you will pay for 2 months even if you want to cancel you will send your kid for 2 months…read their terms and conditions for discontinue or cancellation. 3. I know every kid has their own pace of learning but it’s been around 6 months and my daughter is still in learner’s group (red cap). Worst part is that there are 7-8 students in red cap zone and only one teacher. I see my daughter bending her legs while swimming and no one teaches her to keep legs straight. Teacher was least bothered even to see what she’s doing. I feel that I send my daughter only to take bath…not to learn swimming. About parking, it’s not free…you will pay as per Hillingdon parking tariff (first 30 Minutes free and then £0.50 for next 30 minutes….this is for Hillingdon first card holders otherwise it’s more expensive). I don’t know about other Pool and fitness clubs around but I feel it will be good if you book per day session wherein adult and kid go together I guess for about an hour and if you know swimming teach your kids yourself. Have a nice day!

Fantastic experience: Very good place to have a couple of hours on a week end. Beautiful swimming pool both shallow and 3.5m deep. It has diving board but I don’t know what days it open. It has well maintained and clean shower and changing area. The sauna and steam room is beautiful and relaxing. Love to go with family on weekend to unwind. 5 star

Negative experience: Poor management of children's pool. Booked a slot but had to wait as they weren't policing the people in previous time slots. Not ideal for young families in the changing area either

Sandip Joshi 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: A lovely big pool allowing for everyone to swim without bumping into one another. The free sessions have 3 lanes set out also for slow, medium and fast swimmers. The deep end is approx 12 feet so great for those who fancy diving in!

Deer Bones 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I love how deep the deep end is. The pool is 35m long which is a good length. Doesn't seem to have changed much in my 28 years of life, but why change perfection. There are individual showers.

Dave Burgum 3 years ago

Negative experience: I rejoined Highgrove after 2 years away due to work. I was appalled at the state of the gym and changing rooms . Machines rusty, on the ground floor two machines out of order for weeks . Batteries required for a rowing machine also for a week . When I reported it told they have to be ordered . The chains where rusty and likely to break . Upstairs on the first floor more rusty machines a third of machines split or damaged seating. Changing rooms doors hanging of lockers , floor ripped in a number of places . Showers one of three a trickle ,another pulled away from then wall . On a positive note the steam room is ok . I was told when I rejoined it was due for refurbishment in January however, I was told that this was now March .I am sure this would not pass a health and safety inspection .

Positive experience: The facilities are a bit dated, and the water was a tad cold. Not what we were expecting, but we managed to have a good time. For future swimming/ water activity we will look for someting more of an avtivity centre (with slides and such). A bit curious to how a woman at one point managed to walse into the men's changing room. Don't want to re-visit.
