Negative experience: Always been a nice centre to visit but sadly of the last 3 occasions I have found the teaching pool to be cold.

Positive experience: The swimming pool is not clean most of the time, sometimes smelly. Some of he staff there have an "I don't care" attitude" and they seem they hate to work there or they just hate everyone. But some of them are really kind and friendly and greeting regular swimmers.

Fantastic experience: Great shopping experience. There is Morrisons, Iceland, poundland and other shops and there is a library and leisure centre which has a swimming pool and gym

Negative experience: the only reason i’m giving three stars is because once i went there with my family and we left our clothes in the stall but then when we came back there was a swimming teacher changing inside and my mum and the teacher had an argument so then the teacher reported her to the front desk lady who then came and took our clothes and put them in a bag with lost and found and when my mum found out she was mad and she gave them a bad review

Positive experience: Cheap £1 swim, during the week, between 1.30 and 3.30, but gotta stick to lanes, because schools have lessons at the same time. Water temp.ok, changing rooms clean, pay online only

Fantastic experience: I have only really used the library. But it's a nice spot, to use the internet and print things.

Negative experience: It could potentially be a good place for families and kids, but it isn’t!! The management is really bad. I got a boy of 7 and a daughter of 4 going to the swimming lessons. In less than a year I already lost 7 lessons or more, to be honest I stopped counting out of desperation. There are one or two kids that constantly vomit into the pool. Therefore they close the pool. So all the times I drive there, I park the car, I help my kids to put on the swimming suit only to find out they can’t. Now because the issue is recurring I believe the management should ban those kids from attending the pool! Or it is fair that all the other kids systematically lose their lessons? Also, if the pool is closed why no one bother calling the families so they can avoid a pointless trip, or at least tell the families at the entrance not to change. Than they say the lesson would be either refunded or recovered, but no one calls and I have to chase them all the times!! In essence why the management is so careless and indifferent???

Negative experience: Gym equipment is run down & outdated!

Negative experience: This place is absolutely filthy dirty. Dangerous equipment. Ignorant management. I have been a member hear for years. The last year this place has gone so far downhill.

Negative experience: You pay more than pure gym and the gym is always over packed. People take too long on the machines plus there's a very limited variety of equipment

Fantastic experience: Good local pool amazing staff good for old and new sen all welcome.

Positive experience: A few years ago , there was so much freedom in this centre, every weekend I used to swim there and there would be level certificates which motivated me so much. Everyone was calm, the staff did not dominate over the laughter and the enjoyment of others. It was the best. Now it seems as though the staff are quite authoritative about everything lately, it ruins the calming atmosphere it once had. The music is SO LOUD when you enter or leave. I feel sorry for the people studying in the library as it may distract them. The gym is quite decent I suppose and the library's remodelling is so nice. The library does not have a clear science non - fiction section so the selection is rather boring for me. Please get some physics books! Pleaasssseeeee!!! Also Sunny D's negative review of what's happening nowadays is quite accurate as I don't think that a leisure centre should hold religious services (btw I'm very religious) since it diminishes the significance of other activities (sports activities such as competitions) that can be implemented once again.

Positive experience: My local swimming pool, we use it mostly during summer holidays. Sometimes the water is in the chilly side but recently it's been warmer. There has been floats and noodles for the kids to lay with and the guards are lovely. One came over to see if my son was alright after I dunked him under the water. It's always been clean, patrons may leave the occasional discarded swim pants but it's clean. The ladies changing area also offers free sanitary items which I found to be a lovely thing.

Negative experience: I’ve been taking my child and few other children to the swimming lesson here. Today the lady at the door asked the children for money to open the gate. Instructing them that they need to bring money for her to open the gate as it is not her job. Terrible customer service. The manager on duty was amazing! The children were upset and she spotted them and spoke to them. They express their concerns explaining the lady was rude to them.

Positive experience: Limited parking, some users park on pavement, easier to park in shopping area and walk through

Fantastic experience: This review is definitely about the staff not the facilities. The staff at the front desk, a lovely lady who is ALWAYS ready to help us, no matter the challenge and we appear to always have some form of issues to deal with. She's always so patient and helpful. Then the staff that supports swimming lessons and transition, is also helpful especially with my SEN child. Very understanding staff.

Fantastic experience: It was amazing

Negative experience: 100% the worst gym I’ve been to. The equipment is out of date. Most of the time the machines don’t work. Upkeep is awful. And the closing times are ridiculous for the price being paid. Better does not care about this branch at all. They want to raise prices too. Definitely worth looking for a different gym. Convenience to Thamesmead residents is the only positive.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the Thamesmead Leisure Centre services. My son attends swimming lessons there, and there have been issues with hot water there for over 4 months. The problem with hot showers was raised so many times by many parents, but still, no actions were taken. Staff at the reception give empty promises....it's very inconvenient not to have hot showers, especially in winter when kids are constantly getting sick.... It's very unfair and unprofessional to be updated on increased lesson prices but no updates at all on hot water issues.

Positive experience: Kids go swimming here .. teachers are very good.. and I enjoy being able to watch them swim from above in the lounge area

Negative experience: I went to go swimming last week after work and was told that men can not swim during the evening, I ask what evening can men use the swimming pool, she said only before 5pm however women can swim on certain evening throughout the week. I replied ‘Most people work up until 5pm’ she then moved on to talk to a lady going swimming. Absolutely not acceptable - Greenwich Council and Better pride themselves in equality and diversity, equal opportunity etc and excluding men is unacceptable She told me to go to woolwich to swim which is not ideal, I went and it was closed (preserving energy) Blimey, just imagine if this was women band, I didn’t realise we are back in the 1930s

Positive experience: My closest pool, I’ve started going in the mornings before work. It’s pretty shallow (0.9m>1.5m>0.9m) so I actually knock my fingers on the bottom doing front crawl if I’m not careful! Overall though it’s a great facility, free car parking means I can be there in around 5 minutes from my home. Staff are friendly, and as a new swimmer I’ve found fellow slow lane users are a nice understanding bunch. The shallow pool is actually pretty helpful for when I’m practicing! I’m a Better Swim member and use others in the area too, mostly tripping out to Stratford- but Thamesmere is great when I’m just wanting a quick bit of exercise. Will have to try out the gym sometime. They look to do a spin class I might try

Negative experience: Visited today and it was freezing! my son had lip wobbles. Apparently it was 26 deg C in the big pool and 28 deg C in the baby pool. Too cold for my 4 year old. He struggled. Shame as the space is nice.

Negative experience: Parking for disabled users are unavailable due to staff members with no disabled badge using the disabled bays. when mentioned to reception this isn’t a option according to there company it is allowed. No suitable areas to sit for people who struggle with stairs some staff who question you are rude about it dispite having a walking aid and having to sit closer to the pool area. Have made a complaint about this even thou I shouldn’t have to considering these types of companies should be disabled friendly in side and around the building

Fantastic experience: Good place for swimming lessons for kids.

Fantastic experience: I'm happy with my experience, kids are running around and sometimes being noisy, but there is a study room where it's very quiet there. Helpful staff, I was using only the library so I don't know much more, there are PC's if you need to use and also adapters where you can charge your own laptop, mobile phone and whatever else you have. The membership is free if you're just using the library, you can rent CDs and DVDs, books and even download songs using one of their features.

Positive experience: I took my mum swimming here today, she has Dementia and some mobile needs. From the very first moment we stepped into the centre they couldn't have been more helpful. The lady at desk rang ahead to let the Life guards know that we needed assistance getting into the pool, my mum was able to use her walker poolside to get to the hoist. The Life guards were very helpful and I was able to stand next to mum as they lowered us into the water. We had a fantastic time swimming and when we were ready we told the lifeguard who immediately helped us back onto the hoist. I would recommend this leisure pool to anyone with limited mobility. Positive experience: I've swam at Thamesmare on and off over the past three years and I've been impressed with the swimming culture. The lifeguards are friendly and sometimes proactive in helping with organising lanes etc. Only gripe is with the lack of opening hours (not much lane swimming in evenings and none at weekends). Changing rooms are good and always been clean when I've used them.

Fantastic experience: First time I have visited this Leisure Centre and really enjoyed it. There is a small free car park to the side of the building and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The changing rooms and showers were clean and the pool well managed. The only down side was the lack of air conditioning, but given the age of the building it probably wasn't something considered at the time of the build. So, free parking, friendly staff, clean well managed pool and changing facilities, good atmosphere, will definitely return.

Fantastic experience: I like this place because it has a very large weight training area, swimming pool with toboggan, bathing area, dance classes, but I think they should improve in cleaning, a lot of dust in the weight training area

Positive experience: Impressed with how clean and tidy it was. Pool was on the chilly side but you soon warm up swimming. It isnt the deepest pool but that will probably suit a lot of people. The women only swim session was dominated by lessons but otherwise got a good 45mins swim in

Positive experience: Difficult really as my issues are the water is extremely cold, the hair dryers are rubbish as you need to constantly hold button, and the water is far too shallow so you can hurt yourself. However, a part of me does like it here it appears clean, the showers are decent, the changing rooms are a decent size and the staff are lovely and always have a warm attitude. I am a member and I will return and mostly I do recommend.

Negative experience: Edited 24.07.2022 Same lady as below telling kids off for ‘disturbing’ church on a Sunday. When it is actually the loud church goers making all the noise and disturbing the rest of the centre. It is a bit ironic considering why is church even allowed to happen in a leisure centre? Maybe they should be told to keep it down instead. ……………………………. My daughter comes here for swimming lessons every Sunday. The actual lessons are fine. However every Sunday there is a horrible black lady at reception who is extremely rude with an attitude. She needs training on customer service as she started yelling at a mum who mentioned how rude she was. And this us something parents have picked up on every Sunday so you can’t even say it’s a one off. She doesn’t let people in on time for their lesson and then shows attitude when we as parents ask to be let in as the kids need a few minutes to get ready and put swimming caps on before their lesson. This attitude is disgusting and they need a better person out the front. If you make as wait out the front till 5 mins before the lesson then you need to ensure you let us in on time instead of moaning at parents who may use their app to get in because there is only 2 mins left till the lesson starts. Funny how she jumped up to tell a parent off but couldn’t jump up to open the gates on time. Ridiculous.

Positive experience: Joined in the summer 2021. The staff are very friendly and everyone in the classes are warm and kind. Would highly recommend the classes. It's a great community for getting to know other people whilst getting fit.

Positive experience: I've been going to this leisure centre for years. There's always been a friendly atmosphere from all the staff and a wide range of classes on offer. Even during lockdown they offered outdoor classes to accommodate some of us fitness fanatics and it was a welcome relief. The pool and gym is always readily available and clean, and queries are always answered really quickly if necessary. An environment suitable for friends and family and it's handy with a carpark just to the rear

Fantastic experience: I wasn't aware how many things are on offer at Thamesmere Leisure Centre, as I was travelling further away for the gym. I love the classes, they have dance, spin, body conditioning, Aerobics, HIIT ect. The favourite for me is dance as they have great music and its so fun plus all the trainers, staff and members are so lovely and welcoming when it's your first time going. There is also the gym and swimming. I have done adult swimming lessons and they have really helped me get better at swimming. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to join a gym for fitness classes, swimming or the gym.

Positive experience: Not the best pool in the area but the prices reflect this. The training pool was very cold and my 2yr old was shivering as soon as we got in. After some time though he did adjust but it was still cold. The showers were OK and did get warm enough to warm us up after the pool. They do have free hairdryers which is a plus but the changing rooms were freezing and had no heating! This is something that needs to be sorted out.

Negative experience: All disability bays occupied and none of them had blue badge. They support swimming for disabled but dont care if they can arrive there and park. Asking staff about it over 2 weeks no progress. There are the same cars every week probably staff.

Positive experience: Long wait at an empty reception and was unable to use the app that I was instructed to download. The pool was perfect temperature and not busy at 10am. Hopefully it will be smooth entry next time.

Fantastic experience: Considering the time of day and with a wheelchair user. All staff members we encountered blew our expectations. Lewis made sure we where shown to the changing rooms and the pod was ready to assisted him into the pool. Nothing was too much for all members of staff we where made to feel welcome. The staff where all very supportive and made the nervous wheelchair user feel safe and support all the time we where in the pool. Credit where credit is due keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to our next visit

Fantastic experience: I am not local to the area, my phone had run out of battery, and I was hopelessly lost! Were it not for the amazing Rosie and Lydia in the library section, I would still be wondering around lost in Thamesmead. They were so kind and helped me on my way. They are a real credit to Better Thamesmere Leisure Centre.

Positive experience: I used to go here for swimming lessons and I enjoyed it mostly. The changing rooms were quite clean, it was sometimes messy but understandable as its a swimming changing room. It could use some more staff but altogether it was amazing and I would come here just for a swim as its close by.

Negative experience: Swimming education is of very poor quality here. The session is 30 minutes, but a child spends only 6-10 minutes by swimming. I respect the exception because there are good teachers too, but I am very dissatisfied with ours. If you would stop it that you will pay plus £30…..
