University Sports Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Bad staff, overcrowded, overpriced.
Fantastic experience: enough place, clean
Negative experience: It’s okay but having no pec deck is insane! It’s a staple for any gym. Having only 3 benches is also ridiculous considering how much room there is in the dumbbell area.
Negative experience: Poorly run, with poor investment decisions. The gym equipment itself is decent, but there is no way near enough of it. Instead of tearing up the athletics track (and leaving the university's competitive runners to find facilities in dundee), the University should definitely have invested in expanding the existing gym, which is BY FAR it's most popular facility.
Negative experience: This gym is a joke. Always busy, 2 benches for a whole university. 9 treadmills for a whole university. They ripped up the athletics track.
Negative experience: It's a well equipped gym and there have been some good improvements over the past few years. However, there is a huge problem with overcrowding which essentially renders the gym unusable for weeks if not months at a time where they gym is completely full at capacity all day. Your only hope of getting any equipment you want is either first thing in the morning or after 9pm in the evening, and even then, it's not a guarantee. If you do happen to go when the gym is over 70% capacity, it's a fairly miserable time. It is certainly one of the busiest gyms I've ever encountered, and checking online to find out the capacity is at over 90% is fairly soul crushing. It's also worth mentioning that this gym isn't cheap either. It's over £200 for just September to May, and you have to pay separately for summer months. There's no option for monthly payments either and I'm really not sure why. If you're not a student, it's over £500. Unfortunately for residents of St Andrews, this gym is essentially the only option as other gyms are significantly more expensive and much worse equipped if you do any amount of serious weightlifting. So unfortunately, until the space for the gym is increased, you're stuck with this.
Fantastic experience: JUDO LOVE IT
Fantastic experience: A great leisure and fitness centre.
Negative experience: A decent looking centre, however there is no cafe and some facilities need upgrade (they really dont however i got destroyed by the local team hence the low rating)
Fantastic experience: Modern sports facilities, remember to make appointments first.
Positive experience: Cafe opens late?
Positive experience: Good facilities, but always crowded during peak hours. It also shuts quite early for a gym used by students with odd sleep schedules--I know it's expensive to keep it open later but considering there are still people using it at closing a change wouldn't be amiss.
Fantastic experience: You could spend all day chasing sheep but you wool appreciate this state of the art gym. Plenty of squat racks, dumbbells, and machines. Reasonable guest pass rates for guests.
Fantastic experience: I would like to say how impressed I've been with the staff at Saints Sports. My 5 year old daughter has been at the Multi Sports on Wednesdays during the school holidays and the staff have been great. Very positive, encouraging and friendly. When I picked her up today I was with my eldest daughter who is 11 and the member of staff turned to her instead of me to ask 'who are you here to pick up?'. My sister, she said. 'Your sister is here to meet you' the staff member said. A simple gesture but much appreciated. It made both of them feel grown up and important. Keep doing what you are doing Saints Sports.
Positive experience: Expensive if not staff or student but got the most gym equipment around. Developed a lot over the past decade with a climbing wall and multiple inside halls.
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Looked after our little one very well. Thankyou.
Negative experience: Waste of time
Negative experience: Waited 20 min for a bench press
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Negative experience: The gym itslef is nice, and the facilities are modern. Unfortunately the gym is always crowded, even at off peak hours you still often need to wait to use machines. It's too small and there's simply not enough space for all the people who use it. During peak hours it becomes absolutely unusable.
Positive experience: Great game of korfball, clean changing rooms
Fantastic experience: Staff was friendly. There is a free outdoors calisthenics gym open for anyone interested right next to reception.
Negative experience: Tiny. Google asked me to update my review if it changed. Still tiny.
Negative experience: 1 star to the smallest Uni Gym in the entire UK
Positive experience: Good equipment, and machines. Classes are cool. But it’s tiny for how many people use it daily. I’ve seen bigger hotel gyms, and it’s open to the public too. It’s always crowded, the classes too.
Negative experience: Half hour reservation. Played 10 mins. (ಠ︿ಠ´)
Fantastic experience: A group of Parkour athletes did a training session with our Cub Pack and they were excellent
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, watching the young saints hockey training
Negative experience: Always busy Over crowded Very small compared to how big it was And now they demand more money for it? What a joke.
Negative experience: Always so busy
Fantastic experience: Good facility.
Fantastic experience: Congratulations on the improved and Updated facilities
Fantastic experience: Very busy facility. Slightly higher prices, but worldclass equipment.
Positive experience: Although lacking in terms of space, the University Sports Centre provides most things students need, including several sports fields and halls and a gym. It is currently also undergoing an expansion.
Positive experience: I've only ever been here to watch friends play football but it seems alright. I wanted to join the gym but it's too expensive and overcrowded.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility, world class equipment. Very full most of the time.
Fantastic experience: Very modern, a lot of machines, the changing rooms are great.
Fantastic experience: Excellent sports facility!
Fantastic experience: I'd give it 4.5 stars, taking 0.5 away for the inconvenience of carrying the ID badge everywhere you're going and the new pricing system. Everything else is great
Fantastic experience: I visit the gym 6 days a week. I'm thrilled at the new renovations the university made. It's clean and modern with big open windows for loads of natural light. Their selection of machines is fabulous and they have a friendly staff on site always happy to help
Positive experience: Good gym
Positive experience: Good, will be better when finished (hopefully)
Negative experience: Staff are refusing entry to non-students. This is supposedly due to congestion and that community members are no longer welcome, even though their website still states that their facilities are "open to University of St Andrews students and staff and also to the general public." Poor service and time wasted.
