East End Pool

Fantastic experience: A most enjoyable experience. Only visiting for the day but was made to feel very welcome by "Byker Stew" who was very knowledgeable, courteous and funny. The swimming changing area could use some TLC but overall a great time was had and i will return.

Negative experience: My daughter enjoys the classes and the progress tracking is effective. But the pool and changing rooms smell of urine and are in bad condition. On busy lesson days it is filthy and the bathrooms are a disgrace. The staff always stand outside vaping next to the main door too. Not the best example for the kids.

Fantastic experience: Cool Gym. Not too busy. Has most equipments you'd need.

Negative experience: For three years, my son and his best friend has been going to swimming lessons and always being happy and hadn’t any problems but since they level up in new class, their new coach called Gary, has not established a good relationship with them and punishes them for the smallest issues, I talk to him about the problem but seems he doesn’t care. So after three years, my son and his friend do not want to continue swimming class anymore. his friend took action to cancel the contract today and if I can't convince my son to continue swimming I should cancel my contract as well. Such a shame after 3 years they leave this swimming pool because of their coach.

Negative experience: Depressing and neglected :( the changing rooms smelled of urine (nowhere near the toilets…) and had chewing gum on the floor. The toys in the toddler swim session were mostly broken :( Sad that it has not been maintained properly. Won’t be returning.

Fantastic experience: Great value for money toddlers loved it swimming pool inside aswell so parents could make a great day out

Negative experience: It's honestly sad. First they remove the library, which i used as a child. Every nostalgic memory gone. Then they close the upper level of the pool, then the back entrance of the area for softplay? then one side of the lower level and it honestly gets more crowded each and every single "good" renovation. And for what? for parties? Hate the place.

Negative experience: Worst thing ever. They neeed to make the pool time open til 6pm at least. I know it’s hard but my daughter wants to swim and she can’t because of these stuipid closing times. Next,why are the toilets so dirty? it’s not OK. The smell is disgusting and it looks like it has ent been washed since 40 BC/BCE. Fix this otherwise i’m going to find a diffrent pool.

Fantastic experience: Found this ideal as I suffer arthritis in my knees, The walk in stairs is much easier as I can't use steps. The sauna and steam rooms were also good. Parking right outside makes it much more accessible. Little cafe also if needed. Overall very happy,if anything all I would say is could do with a bit of an update in the steam and sauna.

Negative experience: Poor level of hygiene. Everywhere stinks of urine and the changing cabinet appears never to have been washed! The toilets are a total mess; this is a public place used by both children and adults and the staff are supposed to be ontop of the cleaning of the environment. I saw men walking around with bear chests in front of everyone as there appears not to be a demarcation between where the men and the women use for changing purposes. It was our first time last week and there was no one at the reception to ask any questions of where we needed to change nor be. I would be grateful if the staff could improve firstly by ensuring that the environment is thoroughly cleaned up. Thanks.

Negative experience: Cant get through on phone. Get through to call centre who cant understand a word you say. Disgusting

Fantastic experience: Joined at beginning of July and have thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Great, friendly and helpful staff. I particularly enjoy the new 07:00 cycle classes on Tuesday mornings - here's hoping further early morning classes are added to the timetable! Great booking system... would definitely recommend.

Positive experience: Rubbish cafe. 60 min wait for frozen chips. Absolute heinous crime. This is diabolical. Otherwise good pool and gym.

Negative experience: Worst experience I have ever had! My daughter skin allergy. We changed the leisure centre and she didn’t get any allergy. Also the swimming teaching was so poor. I had never seen the trainer getting in to the water fro beginners. She was there for more than a year. Didn’t make any difference in her skills. After moving to Gateshead leisure centre, she moved to further stages with improved swimming. I don’t recommend this east end pool at all to any one.

Negative experience: It used to be really nice but tried going there lately and it's quite a disaster. It was so cold my sons lips were turning blue. He loves water but I've never seen him like this. Just frozen and clinging to be like a koala... And this was a pool meant for toddlers. Really sad.

Negative experience: Worst pool experience in my entire life. Pretty sure water in there hasn’t seen chlorine since the place was opened; the water literally tasted salty. Just one pool open, no other facilities. More sitting area than actual water to swim in. Tiles in the changing room also filthy black

Fantastic experience: It was rather difficult to get back to a routine after COVID disruptions. But over a number of months I'm managing much better, I absolutely love this place so much so I just got my membership back I have full use of facilities again it's marvelous literally my favourite place for a day out! All the staff are kind, friendly and welcoming and I want to say an extra big thank you for all the recent maintenance I wasn't expecting such swift action but it's much appreciated by myself and all other customers and I'm so glad you didn't take offense to my cheeky humour! Fantastic experience: I am up in Newcastle from Cleethorpes and had some spare time to kill so I looked up for gyms and spars and found East End Pool and it is a credit to the City of Newcastle,excellent gym facilities as good as I have ever seen and the pools and spar top class I really enjoyed myself and won't hesitate to return,both the Stuarts on front desk are 10 out of 10 so helpful thank you again

Positive experience: Pretty decent Gym but showers need modernised into Cubicles

Fantastic experience: Lovely facility. Free parking for 1st 3 hours. Pool was quiet at 10am. Lovely and clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Not expensive like some places. Great place to get fit or just enjoy a relaxing swim.

Negative experience: Frequently changing hours when you are allowed to come.I have a feeling that my time is not respected. Pool opening hours are a complete joke (especially on Saturdays and Sundays). gym hours are better but not perfect either. sometimes I have the impression that they close as they like, often you have to ask "what time you close today". Parts in the gym are not replaced or added. Evidently, the customer is not important in the company's policy.

Fantastic experience: Lovely gym. Has all kinds of equipment for training. Not as big as other gyms but it does have a pool , steam&sauna and a quiet big are for classes. Always clean everywhere and they also provide cleaning product to clean before and after use of any exercise.

Fantastic experience: Went for a last minute taster session this afternoon. They didn't have the main pool open for swimming as the soft play was on. Very impressed though. I'd definitely like to go back another day when the main pool is open for swimming.

Positive experience: Great pool and great remodeling in the time since I was last here! Lockers only cost 20p non refundable and are well sized. Pools for little ones, adults and fitness classes. Lovely helpful staff

Negative experience: Tried calling but couldn't get through, arrive with a 7 year old to be told we can't swim because there's something on. No info on the website. Absolute disgrace.

Fantastic experience: East End Pool is brilliant. I go to the swim for fitness classes as I have had torn tendons and a frozen shoulder and still cannot move my arm enough to breastroke or backstroke. However this has helped enormously and the pool is the easiest way to exercise.

Positive experience: Good classes. But there is one particular lady at reception with dark hair who everytime I show up says classes are full. Teachers always confirm they're not and i can take a class. Today i had to leave as arrived too early.

Fantastic experience: Welcoming building/facilities. Staff very approachable and always happy to help, from the lad who cleans, the reception staff and the pool/gym staff, all willing to go the extra mile.

Positive experience: Great pool great staff, however it is being spoiled by them failing to take action against people who continually block the changing cubicles by leaving clothes in them rather than paying 20p for a locker. Please sort this out.!!!! Why not put the clothes left in the cubicles in a bin bag and get the offenders to collect them at reception, I'm sure this would have an immediate effect. Noticed left around the changing rooms have no effect whatsoever. Apart from this east end pool is a great facility with great staff.

Fantastic experience: Fab new gym and friendly helpful staff.

Positive experience: Been going here for about 10 months now. Really friendly staff on the desk. They have recently refurbished the gym and moved it to a bigger space downstairs and the range of equipment is amazing. Way better than any of the other "better" facilities I've been to recently. I can't comment on any of the classes as haven't attended any of them. The pool itself is okay, depending on what time of day you go. The changing area could do with an update but it suffices, my only gripe is paying for the lockers when you already pay for membership! Overall a great local gym, would definitely recommend and the prices are very competitive bearing in mind it includes the pool, steam room, sauna and multi-site use.

Negative experience: The whole experience was horrible, the staff are super rude especially the ones watching over. The guy with the glasses safe guard was very rude for no reason and not friendly at all. They opened only 1 pool at all times and they had one with bubbles but told us is only for children we are not allowed to use it which was silly but not big deal. The only pool open it was horrible as it’s pretty small and everyone inside (all ages ) The main issues was that they say is open till 10 and at 7PM they put us out and closed the saunas etc we payed extra for the sauna and they could have let us still use it if they booked their pool and don’t have the decency to let us know when we payed for the pass they lied is open till 10pm which wasn’t the case. The receptionists are very unprepared and doesn’t seem to have much knowledge about the brand and she was struggling to explain the prices and packages ... Also the pool is not deep at all at the beginning it crashed you knees and at the end 1.7m which wasn’t fun at all. Also the steam room is rough and seems not looked after. The sauna was basic and no issues maybe the size but wasn’t crowded so we didn’t have a problem with it. Would never go back there was a ripoff!!

Positive experience: the classes that are on daily are very good and fill up fast, everyone is very friendly and helpful, the changing rooms are for both male and female, as are the showers, the toilets are separate, you have to pay 20 pence for a locker for your cloths. (which you don't get back), the main pool is small i think it is only 20 meters or so, the one for the water workout class is about 1.25 meters. there is also a sauna and steam room which you have to pay separate for them, up stairs there is a fully functioning gym and they also have rooms for other fitness sections, the lockers and changing rooms are separate, but you have to pay £1 for the locker but you get it back when you are finished

Negative experience: Shocking dirty swimming pool.....why would you allow someone in the sauna wearing jeans!!!!

Positive experience: The water was warm-ish at first then about half an hour later it started to get cold. It’s shocking that they have to cram everyone into one pool and the other pool is closed off. Slides are not on as well as the waves! In future I think I will swim someplace elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Me and my granddaughter had the best time ever today. The staff were brilliant. I swim here most early mornings its lovely

Positive experience: The gym is a bit small, but it's ok, most of the staff have been very nice to me, some have been very rude.

Negative experience: Staff are absolutely disgraceful, 100% would not recommend. They had a stinking attitude towards me and my family! Not happy at all!

Negative experience: Absolutely never felt so humiliated in all my life, my sister and I went swimming today at Byker pool with my husband and a friend, both my sister and I are over weight and have anxiety plus health issues, we both wore modesty swim wear ie a top and leggings set for swimming, the girl on watch at pool asked us about them and we explained we don't like to show our bodies and she said was ok to wear for that session but would need to get permission in future from management, then 5 mins later manager comes over to us shouting for us to get out of the pool and we couldn't wear them in the water, my sister asked him what he would do if we were Muslim and he said he wouldn't let them in the water, he then started to grab at my sister's top to feel the material he said they were swimsuit material but still couldn't swim in them he tried to grab mine but I hurried away to changing area as was so embarrassed and started having a panic attack, our friend stuck up for us and the manager said "he would have him outside" disgusting manner we will never go back, we trying to get healthier then made to feel worse than already do! The staff up in the gym are lovely caring people such a shame about the management really gone down hill since became Better company!

Negative experience: So called duty managers (X2) terrible. Two different answers to the same question. Rude and impolite. Will gladly travel further to use a pool not ran by Better Leisure.

Negative experience: Institutionally devious and dishonest. Staff lied about imminent pool closures so as to avoid membership cancellation. The dishonesty is clearly sanctioned by management.

Negative experience: Me and my family have payed to swim at your pool at byker. The attitude of staff is disgusting my boys were forced into a swimming test and one of my boys who suffers from autism didn't want to take the test so I was asked to leave. I asked for our money back and was refused. I have never been exposed to such a terrible atitude from all your staff. They gathered around like a pack of wild dogs to see what was going on We felt victimised i cant believe they wy we were spoken too. On another note your lockers are filthy and you cubicles are all broken with no locks. I would like my money back at the very least and we are very upset with our treatment. Positive experience: Proper swimming pool, partly sectioned off with lanes for serious swimmers. Separate fun pool for children with fountain and water jets as well as another very shallow pool for tiny children. There are also flumes and a steam room and sauna which I didn't use. My only complaint is that the showers were a bit too hot for my young granddaughter. Apart from that, this is one of the best pools I have been to.

Positive experience: Its not too bad. Although the pool is quite cold for little ones compared to other pools.

Positive experience: Use the pool twice a week on an evening and is always clean and the staff are lovely. Wish the sauna was oprn later than 6 though. Other than that though its a great pool and Gym!

Negative experience: Been trying to arrange swimming lessons,been in twice and rang once told someone would ring us back each time, still waiting a courtesy call wouldn't go amiss if your unable to do lessons !

Positive experience: Not a bad pool, but it can get busy on an evening. Adults best to go on wednesday evening to avoid children
