Waterside Hotel Peterhead

Fantastic experience: We had stayed for 5 days a few years ago when the electricity company placed us there due to our being without power courtesy of Storm Arwen. It was really good. This year, instead of giving ourselves Christmas presents which we neither wanted or needed we gave ourselves a 3 night dinner, bed and breakfast stay. Exactly the same as last time. We asked for and got a ground floor room close to a fire door in case our younger dog needed out during the night. Ot was large,spacious clean and warm. The food was again excellent their producing lovely vegan meals for me. Parking is easy on the large tarmac areas and there are acres of grass in which to exercise my dogs with easy access to the river. As usual, it is the staff who can make or break a hotel. Here they make it :friendly, efficient - making the Waterside a very pleasant and relaxing place to be.

Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're wanting a Gluten Free meal at a function, they had no idea about what it consisted of even although they were asked at time of booking a few months before hand and i was told it wouldn't be a problem and that they could accommodate my dietary food requirement, the person who organised the night out even spoke to the Manager who was working that night and wasn't impressed with his attitude and was overhead calling this person a Karen after complaining that I hadn't had any food yet and everyone else in our company had already finished their starters and their plates were being collected, I emailed the hotel after the night out to complain about my treatment and that I've never been made to feel like I did that night and made to feel I was a total inconvenience to them and I'm still waiting for a response, wouldn't go back there for a meal that's for sure

Negative experience: The restaurant food was absolutely rubbish. The vegetables were cooked just half of the way. The mashed potato either. The expectation was to have a good dinner but in a result never come back. The atmosphere was good. But service so poor.

Negative experience: I would not pay my own money to stay in this hotel.. the bar doesn't open till 6pm every day.. thr is no one to serve you at all through the day.. thr might be Julie how is the most helpful receptionist that I av ever met.. she has to serve you beer as as well as the reception.. she is a absolute legend .. but to say the least.. mouse in Mt room for me to get told, ur in the country sir.. now that is not the right thing to say yo a customer staying here for two weeks working away.. they did move me to a worse room tho.. not the same room at all. But to say we live In the country for the mouse in my room is so disgusting.. its a same because thr is nice staff in here..av got to spend another 4 nights here due to boss booking it for so long.. I will not be staying here again after Thursday the 21st of November.. its the worst hotel av stayed in .. specially when av worked away for over 4 years now..

Fantastic experience: We have just spent a week at this place in my opinion it is a really fantastically good clean place the food and staff including the manager are all fabulous there is also a swimming pool and gym for you to use if want for a.small charge [[[[absolutelyhighly recomend this.place for a visit ))))the only down side it's such a long way approx 8hrs by coach but when get there your treated great.if your thinking of going to Scotland would certainly give this place a try must give them in my opinion [[[10 out of 10]]]

Fantastic experience: Very quiet hotel, friendly staff, only issue was there was no entertainment at night/ very little to do due to swimming pool etc. closing at 8.45pm and there was quite a few people looking for a pool table we found it on the day of leaving so no use to us. It can be located within The Muse Bar, it was closed and light where switched off the evenings we were there so very hard to find.

Fantastic experience: I attended a wedding at the beginning of September and ended up staying the evening. James the manager is fantastic, he went beyond all expectations and brought me some antihistamines when it was clear that my itchy eyes and sneezing were ruining my evening haha. He is extremely friendly and approachable, as is Nicola on the front desk. All the staff are good, cannot fault them at all! I have attended events here before in the past but it was the first time I'd stayed. Reasonably priced and comfortable.

Positive experience: Ok hotel albeit a little tired. Room had everything needed... although facilities need an update. Breakfast was comprehensive...with black pudding which I love!! There is a gym...and a pool...

Decent restaurant and food was excellent and the choice was good too. Room was clean and comfy beds. Went in the pool and jacuzzi and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Fantastic experience: Friends and I stayed overnight during a Mystery Tour with Caledonia Travel. My room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The hotel had entertainment on the night which was fantastic. James the manager was lovely, as well as all the staff. We didn't use the leisure facilities but did go for a nosey. Looked lovely. The gym had good variety of equipment. Dinner and breakfast was lovely. Would recommend staying here.

Negative experience: Never again the place needs refurbished furniture loo shower not good if you can't lift your leg over the bath dinning room like dinner hall @ school could do with a little shop, games room would NOT RECOMMEND NO FREE WI FI £35 FOR A WEEK

Fantastic experience: I have a gluten free diet and all the staff were very accommodating. They were considerate not just about my diet but overall very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay and would stay here again any time.

Fantastic experience: I stayed at the Waterside hotel In Peterhead with other family members for 4 nights. We were there for a family function. I must say we were All very impressed with everything from start to finish. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The Waterside has great facilities, Swimming pool Jacuzzi, 2 Gyms. The food was very good. The grounds were lovely. Will definatly be returning. Fantastic experience: Just back from a two night stay and highly recommend. I booked dbb. Staff are welcoming, professional and keen to please. The manager James was highly visible supporting his staff and guests alike. I am a vegetarian and my expectations are usually low, they catered for me very well and dinner was lovely. Lots of choice at breakfast (buffet) that was topped up constantly. Room was large and very comfy/clean with the standard kettle, coffee and tea and an additional coffee machine too with plenty of coffee pods. Lots of parking and it is free. Drinks are pricey, £7 for a large glass of white wine. I didn't use the leisure facilities but they did look good. I have stayed in a few four star hotels and I felt the attentiveness of the staff and the food at The Waterside better reflects a four star rather than three. I'll be back.

Positive experience: Work trip, staff were amazing, food was good, rooms were clean but a bit tired, all in all a good stay, quite a bit out of Peterhead but otherwise no issues

Positive experience: A bit tired. Rooms are clean. Stayed as part of a bus trip. Good food - Lita if it and high quality. No free WiFi unless you are in the main building - seems a little stingy but i guess you don't care that much for your guests . No hot water early in the morning. It's not near the town and it takes about 20-25 minutes to walk. Will not stay here or at another Brittania hotel again.

Fantastic experience: Maybe a little tied , but lovely clean place my room was spot on . The staff were fantastic I was alone but got lots of recommendations on things to see and do from them. The next day the day manager went out of her way to ask how my day had been and hoped I had enjoyed my stay . Bigger establishments could learn a lesson from this place they will go that extra mile I'm sure if you asked them . I will be back lovely people x

Fantastic experience: I was up here for a solo birthday trip as a black woman and it's honestly been the most peaceful,soul filling lil vacation. Staff are so so nice, lovely human beings. Thank you Hilda for lil chat on my birthday , truly appreciate it.❤️ The steam room was to die for . Swimming pool,Sauna, Jacuzzi,it was worth every penny and the food is honestly so amazing . Such a beautiful get away hotel for solo or family. I will for sure be back again and again. My second time staying with Britannia and it's honestly never disappoints..

Positive experience: Stayed 3 nights for a pool tournament, we were told on arrival there were not enough beds for all of our team and a number of guys ended up sharing beds. Not ideal. No offer of refund or compensation. Other than that the hotel was fine, and the food was good and reasonably priced. Drinks very expensive at £4.80 for San Miguel and £7.00 for Vodka Red Bull.

Fantastic experience: Just stayed as part of a coach trip. Don't be put off if you have had a bad experience of other Britannia Hotels. This hotel is great. Food was varied, hot and plentiful. Breakfast was brilliant. The rooms were large, quiet and clean. The highlight however was the staff, the service and hospitality was some of this best we have ever received in any hotel. Behind the hotel is a stream with a lot of birds.

Fantastic experience: Just back from an overnight stay here. Manager James and his team were great. I got dinner and breakfast which were delicious with plenty of choice. The room was great, beds were very comfy and I had a fantastic night's sleep. Loads of room in hotel room, it was spotlessly clean. Loved it. There is a swimming pool, spa pool, gym and sauna also on site. Pets are welcomed too. Fantastic experience: Stayed in the hotel with Glenton Coach tour over New year celebrations. The hotel is located on the edge of Peterhead with a lovely scenic area to walk along to the beach. Aberdeen, Stonehaven and other places are a drive away. The hotel manager Jim and his staff were 1st class, so helpful and friendly and attentive. The meals were excellent and a good choice of menu options. Rooms were spotless and great facilities within the hotel too. Gym, swimming pool, snooker bar and evening entertainment.

Fantastic experience: Like the way, the manager came on the coach and told us our room numbers. The keys were on the outside of the rooms. No hanging about. Straight off coach and into rooms. Brilliant idea.

Fantastic experience: What a brilliant hotel this is. As other reviews mention, the staff make it. Without exception they are friendly and welcoming, a real credit to the hotel. We booked for a low cost family night away on a deal that gave us leisure club access. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the food great, and the leisure facilities were brilliant, a big hit with the youngest member of the family. We will be back to enjoy their hospitality again, thank you team Waterside for making an otherwise dreich weekend so enjoyable.

Positive experience: Drinks are extortionate eg draft cocktail and half a lager shandy almost.£10. ( Half the cocktail was froth in a champagne glass ). Service could be better. Dinner could be better but breakfast was nice. Room was nice and bed was comfy. The hotel manager was really nice.

Fantastic experience: I spend much time in hotels . Majority are holiday inn , premier inn . I find that what makes a hotel is its staff . The waterside hotel has to be at the top indeed . There is nothing like being welcomed like an old friend . I stayed for 4 nights and it was indeed a pleasure . The hotel GM is James . An genuinely pleasant and most approachable ambassador for the hotel . His exemplary standards are reflected by his staff , William , Nicole , Nicola and jade . Again wonderful people. Not forgetting the fantastic staff in the health suite Angela and staff . The facilities are clean and all staff are very eager to please . As a hotelier myself with a large hotel with over 200 guests daily , I would be most honoured and grateful to have members of staff with such great hospitality.The hotel was run like a family business . .Not something you always get. Peterhead has a jewel in its crown . Bravo .

Positive experience: Stayed here for a week for work, Food was fantastic staff are friendly and the room was clean, mini fridge in room TV was just freeview and no sockets next to bed that was my only gripe with the room, but back to the food... it was great quality fast service and the waiting staff were on point. hotel has a gym, swimming pool and sauna £10 for the week for unlimited access, plenty of parking space. Not really wheelchair friendly if that's what you're looking for. Free WiFi in communal areas and paid WiFi is decent speeds. Overall great place to stay not far from local amenities. Breakfast was also great.

Negative experience: We traveled all over Scotland on this trip. We stayed in Hotels and hostels. Not once did we have to pay for wifi until we got here. We booked this place thinking it would be nice to swim and relax in the hot tub after our travels through the highlands, doing some hiking in the rain, and staying in some pretty cramped quarters. Then we find out everything is extra. You have to pay for wifi. You have to pay for the pool. You have to pay for the hot tub. Not to mention how rude the front desk check in woman was (didn’t catch her name unfortunately). Honestly we stayed in hostels that were nicer. One positive…we had breakfast before we left and compliments to the chef because it was delicious.

Fantastic experience: Great place for a short holiday ...rooms were very clean and comfy .. had an ironing board and iron ... plus a hairdryer ...also a small fridge ...bathroom was a bath and shower inside ....comfy beds ...meals were really good albeit mostly self service ....entertainment was excellent Colin was. Fab singer and enthralled the guests with some of his singing and participation ....⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience: Food here is 4/5 room is really nice and views are great. Staffs are superb only 1 or 2 that didn't add up to the reviews but ultimately the rest of the staffs are superb.

Fantastic experience: Here for a funeral tea. Service and quality was good, bags supplied for leftovers convenient and recyclable. Seems like a sensible place and have heard of it being regularly used. Almost a household name by now.

Negative experience: It was okay nothing special, we were at a wedding dance the best thing was the band and company ,drinks was over priced ( vodka and a dash of cola out of a bottle £5.00) cola was flat ,they never once cleared the tables all night was shocking , that customer has to take glasses back to bar !!!!

Fantastic experience: Stayed here while working in the hotel. But my review is on staying here. All the staff were very friendly. And very helpful. Had a 3 course meal and it was 10/10. Also with working in the hotel for a couple days I got to see behind the scenes, and the kitchen was spotless. Looking forward to staying here again. Value for money.

Positive experience: Rooms were clean with hair dryer,iron,ironing board,mini fridge,fan and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was great from continental to full scottish breakfast with juices tea and coffee. Evening meals were lovely and hot as were the desserts that were available great selection. I would like to give all staff a mention as they were all so helpful polite and friendly nothing was a problem that goes for all the waiting staff, bar staff reception,cleaners and a special mention to Rodger what an asset to this hotel he goes above and beyond he takes time to chat to everyone and makes you feel so welcome. Would I come back here definitely and I would highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Stayed for 4 nights on a Caledonian coach trip. The manager and staff went out of their way to accommodate people and were really friendly and extremely professional. The hotels lay out is very good with every facility which you need. Drink prices weren't a rip off. The breakfast was really good and evening meal was a buffet for the main course and had plenty of variety. The manager made our holiday and he couldn't have out himself out more for people if he tried. We asked for something which wasn't on the menu, to be told by a member of staff that they didn't have it, and 20 minutes later the manager walked up to our table with the item after going to a local shop to buy it. This is certainly going above and beyond. I can certainly recommend this hotel and its staff 100%. Well done Waterside. The only downside to our trip was the excursions set by Caledonian. Far too much travelling each day. Sat on a coach for 10 hours the day after being on it for 11 hours getting there is not anyone's idea if fun. After the 2nd day we gave up on the trips and did our own thing, one being a trip to the local prison museum, which was incredible.

No red flags raised the host was very pleasant and welcoming, the hotel seemed very child friendly and the food for the children very nice. Overall a nice welcoming hotel in pleasant surroundings wood happily go back again, and would stop there if I was in the area.

In conclusion, our experience at the Britannia Waterside Hotel was truly extraordinary. We owe a large part of our perfect wedding day to James Forbes and the fantastic staff. We highly recommend the Britannia Waterside Hotel to anyone planning their wedding. It's not just a venue, but a place where dreams are brought to life.

Positive experience: This hotel is really dated and in need of modernization or some money spent on maintenance. I would advise going out to eat and getting some takeout beer from Morrisons as the bar area is truly awful. The rooms are clean. This place is OK for an overnight stay. It's part of the Britannia hotel chain, voted the worst UK hotel chain 8 years in a row

Positive experience: I was there over the weekend with Caledonian Travel mystery bus tour. First impression weren't the best but don't let the put you off it's a very clean, tidy and comfortable hotel with modern touches. Food at dinner for bus tour could have been better but for the price it was acceptable for most I guess but breakfast made up for it as it was delicious and filling. Drinks were overpriced but I can understand it's a money maker for the hotel. Location is rather remote and there are no cash machines or cash back facilities within the hotel. Most staff were friendly and welcoming others seemed overwhelmed. Entertainment was fantastic and lounge area was filled with fun and laughter. I would recommend and stay again.

Fantastic experience: I would have rated a 50 on service!! I "booked" a night here but upon arrival i had realised that i hadn't booked and must have closed the app before completing the purchase. I went on the app only to find no rooms available and i was done after a 10hr+ drive I got here in the early hours of the morning, but luckily Ahmed was on hand to sort things pronto. He got me booked in with minimal fuss. Very polite and friendly staff member, he offered me some food which i declined due to being shattered, i was really grateful to secure a room at 1am and i cant thank the team here enough. 10/10

Fantastic experience: I was on a Tartan Travel mystery trip and this was the hotel where I stayed overnight. James( Manager) was a fantastic host who was very hands on,he made my stay very enjoyable. The bedroom was spotless,I slept like a baby . Jade ( receptionist) was informative and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Visited at weekend with my mum on a Caledonian bus tour. Hotel was lovely and busy, manager and his staff were so professional, helpful and friendly. Buffet dinner was so good and breakfast fab. Our ground floor room with patio was exceptional. Would highly recommend this hotel. Should be 4 star.

Positive experience: It is a bit dated the fact they charge guests for the pool is also a bit strange but the one thing that brings them to 4 star is the food dinner was great the food was fresh tasted amazing and great price especially for the portion size, the rooms were cold even with the 1 radiator on and the plugs are around 3m from the bed at the closest but it's a great price per night so I would use it again in the future just maybe take wooly socks and a jumper for bed If I had to try and describe it, it reminded me of a mix between butlins and blackpool, though my colleague said it reminded him of crossroads

Positive experience: Rooms are basic and fairly comfortable. TV signal is erratic and unreliable, as is phone signal in the area (very inconvenient when you have to pay £7 per day for WiFi). The staff are its saving grace; very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is basic and not particularly tasty; the bacon was the only thing we liked. There's a good selection of cereals, including soya milk and sunflower spread for those with dairy allergies.

Positive experience: Serves the purpose, comfortable room, clean & tidy. Friendly staff. As I was only staying for 6 hours, I can't comment on the food or other facilities. My main issue is the layout of the room I was in. No plug socket alongside the bed, all on the opposite wall as far away from the beds. I sadly have the misfortune to require a CPAP machine when I sleep, as apparently I'm secretly training to be a free diver & like to stop breathing regularly while I sleep. There was no way to plug in my device in the current layout of the room, thankfully the bed was not fixed to the wall & I was able to move it a bit closer so I could plug in my device, but was forced to keep the device between my knees for the night. I obviously did not have a comfortable sleep. This is my only issue really. If it wasn't so late when I arrived & I wasn't wrecked tired, I would have probably went to the reception & asked for an extension lead. But anyways, from my brief stay I will say it was ok overall. Staff were very welcoming & easy to deal with.

Fantastic experience: Visited Spa-used Steam room and Sauna on 16.01.23.Christine was at work. She was very helpful, extremely responsive and with professional attitude. During my stay she maintained the Spa facilities in clean and safe environment. I would go back and definitely recommend this spa. Thank you Christine!

Fantastic experience: Had best hogmanay break ever room perfect food outstanding staff couldn't do enough 4 everyone. Both James James went above & beyond can't wait to visit again.

Fantastic experience: Great little hotel, stayed as part of a group, Manager and staff are so friendly and helpful. Good wholesome food. Rooms could maybe do with a wee bit of an upgrade but certainly didn't detract from a superb break.

Fantastic experience: I don't know why this place is classed as a 3 star hotel this place should be classed higher stayed in 5 star hotels that ain't as nice as this place. The food was amazing the staff is very pleasant and very helpful there always there when u need any help etc they have a bar swimming pool hot tub sorna steam room gym and the rooms wasn't expecting something so luxury for £42 cheaper than travel lodge and premier Inn we will deffo be using you guys again working in vehicle recovery were always up and down the country and have told all the drivers if there close stay here this place is amazing highly recommend!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: It was a tartan travel tour with Danny and this was the hotel we stayed at on sat 26/11/22. The staff were very friendly. Room was excellent and the food was brilliant. Nothing was a bother for any of the staff or Danny. We would book again for longer

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Good service considering how busy they were with two coach parties and a wedding. Sadly, didn't get to view in daylight.

Fantastic experience: Travelled up from Glasgow for a friend's 50th. Presently surprised. Very friendly staff and clean spacious rooms, breakfast was of good selection and quality. Hotel needs some upgrading but plus points make up for it.

Fantastic experience: Clean rooms, great food very friendly helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The manager was a lovely man who mucked in with all his staff.and came in tour bus to say cheerio and thank everyone for coming to the hotel.

Positive experience: Room was basic but comfortable. Food in the restaurant was good with staff serving the starter and helping with the main course. Nice bar area to relax in.

Fantastic experience: We arrived at the hotel on Monday 17th October 2022. After a journey of 15 hours on our coach to get there, arriving at 9pm the staff were very friendly and helpful. They kept a meal for us and it was very good. We stayed until Friday and all the meals were perfect. thank you

Positive experience: Stayed there as part of a Caledonian travel trip the hotel was OK bit out the way nowhere to walk to. Its like a maze we had 2 rooms outside the main hotel in the lodge my twin room was nice enough toilet very dated. Mum had a double room facing ours this room was stinking of damp. Dinner and breakfast was included 1st night was good next 2 nights all the buffet plates where dirty food had run out at breakfast big ques to get food. Glasses on table had lipstick on them. We used the swimming advertised prices where different to what we where charged my daughter charged same price as adults despite advertising half price queried this and was told coach holiday is different price. Should still be on price list.

Fantastic experience: Wow, so much better than expected. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. The meals in the restaurant were very tasty but the restaurant staff almost made the meals taste better because of their friendly service. A very big thank you to Hilda and the team. I would have given the room 5 stars but they do need a bit of updating. My window didn't shut properly and there weren't any USB sockets. (We are in the 21st Century ! ) Pool, Steam room and Suana were great but the Jacuzzi jets didn't work. It is outside of town but has a free car park compared to hotels in town.
