PureGym Luton and Dunstable

Negative experience: Been a member since it first opened but recently it's really gone down hill. It's a very busy gym and evidently needs more maintenance and more staff presence for just the basics of managing the gym. So much of the equipment is out of order right now that they've run out of "out of order" signs. It's got quite a poor layout in some areas where it's hard to walk past the equipment if it's in use. Shame to see the decline really as otherwise it's a great location for me with convenient opening hours and ample parking.

Negative experience: Some good equipment but the place is a mess, dumbbells all over the place and difficult to find a pair for example. Couldn't find the ladies changing room, not sign posted that it's through the ladies gym. The bathroom shower area is a midden. Only went 2 days out of a 3 day pass as it was unpleasant

Fantastic experience: Verry friendly atmosphere and verry clean.

Negative experience: The management seems to take their time fixing broken equipments. The drink station has been out of use for a while and no alternative has been provided.

Negative experience: The disabled toilets has put of order for weeks and the water fountain has been out of order for over a month. The facilities are of the place is awful. There is no management to maintain these stuff. Like what is happening and what do we pay for ?

Fantastic experience: Prefer to go here over the gym and jd in Luton, not packed and smelling like body odour like its competitors

Negative experience: I’ve been a member at PureGym for a while now, and unfortunately, I have to say my experience has been disappointing. Firstly, the spray bottles for wiping down equipment are hardly ever available. I often have to hunt around the entire gym just to find one, and even then, they’re usually empty, which makes it tough to keep things hygienic. On top of that, the staff could be more helpful. When I’ve brought up issues like the broken machines or missing spray bottles, they don’t seem all that interested in fixing the problems. It would be nice to feel like someone cares about maintaining the space, but instead, I get the sense they’re just going through the motions. To add to the experience, there’s a strange smell in the gym that never seems to go away. Combined with the broken equipment, lack of cleanliness, and unhelpful staff, it’s honestly not a great atmosphere for working out. If you’re looking for a reliable, well-maintained gym, this one might not be the best choice.

Negative experience: I've been a loyal member of this gym for a long time, but it's incredibly frustrating to see how far standards have slipped since the old manager and team left. Under new management, the gym has gone from being a clean, well-run space to an outright mess. Hygiene has become an absolute joke—basic supplies like spray bottles and paper towels to wipe down equipment are almost always empty, and no amount of reminders seems to fix the issue. (Keeping in mind it's not my job to sort this stuff out it's theirs!) I genuinely held off on leaving this review in hopes that my constant reminders to staff would actually prompt change, but nothing has improved. Instead, they make me feel like I’m inconveniencing them by raising these concerns—even though I'm the one paying a membership fee that, by the way, was recently raised for "maintenance of facilities." Yet, there's zero visible maintenance: the machines are frequently broken, there aren’t enough bins around, and the place almost always smells unpleasant. The previous manager maintained an actual cleaning station in the center of the gym, with multiple spray bottles and ample paper towels that were never empty. Somehow, the new manager thought it was a good idea to remove this entirely. Now, half of my gym session is spent just trying to find a way to clean equipment—if anything is even available. If it weren’t for the fact that I live only five minutes away and need the convenience during my lunch hour at work, I’d have left by now. (Seriously if you need to travel more than 5 minutes dont even bother getting a membership itll be a waste of your time and money!) This gym needs to step up its standards and take responsibility. Members shouldn’t have to constantly remind staff to do the bare minimum. It’s incredibly disappointing to see what was once a fantastic gym fall to this level of neglect.

Fantastic experience: Very well equipped gym with lovely showers and lots of free parking.

Negative experience: Blocked toilets, showers not working, lockers management poor - of all the pure gyms. This is by far the worst I attend. Not sure if it’s a funding issue but it’s just not a pleasure coming here but more of a necessity.

Fantastic experience: Good Gym

Negative experience: Absolutely filthy. Simple things like spray are always missing or empty. It smells absolutely terrible, and is over crowded. Awful experience compared to other locations I have been to.

Negative experience: Unfortunately toilets not maintained and equipment not cleaned regularly- lots of dust , hair etc

Fantastic experience: Clean and tidy. Nice atmosphere, good place to do a workout

Negative experience: Paid 10 pound on taxi there then back for it too be closed with no warning what’s so ever

Negative experience: Machines are outdated, people are really messy and leave there rubbish on or near the machines, no air conditioning working whenever I go, and does smell, but it does the job

Positive experience: For a gym that is open 24/7, this one isn’t too bad but then I’m going in at 3:30am. Cleaner onsite when I go in, busy away cleaning away. Lots of equipment, 95% of it all in working order. They have a cleaning station where you can get some tissues and detergent to clean the machine before and after use, not that anyone else does it so always best to clean it beforehand. Starts to get busy from 05:00.

Negative experience: Is there a national shortage of hair dryers

Positive experience: A gym facility that offers rolling monthly memberships to its participants. They offer plenty of equipment to help you to get into physical shape.

Negative experience: This is, by far, the worst PureGym I have used. The foul smell hits you as soon as you walk through the door and only intensifies as you go further into the building. The toilets and changing area are usually in a state of disrepair and there is rarely any soap in the dispensers above the sink. Members tend not to return dumbbells, de-load bars or even wipe their sweat from benches when they are done. And, of course, you have the usual contingent of wannabe-influencers getting under your feet as they set up their tripods to film themselves.

Fantastic experience: Always pretty consistent. Good range of equipment. Generally clean and tidy. Gets very busy at peak times as most gyms do. Use Pure gyms all over the UK.

Positive experience: Could be bigger with how busy it gets most times. Only one cleaning station that always seem to be out of either the cleaning liquid or the tissue to spray it on.

Fantastic experience: Very good value for money, can get too busy but if you go at the right time it’s great

Positive experience: Good value, great classes, love the hydromassage. Showers and changing area often cold and smell unpleasant.

Negative experience: The trainers in the gym are not knowledgeable at all and very rude. I feel sorry for the people who pay them 40/ hour for doing poor workout where they don't even advise good form and concentrate more on talking to the client instead of correcting their posture or teaching them something The managers are rude/ mannerless and the machines are broken half the time. If you're looking to do your workout in peace don't go to this gym.

Fantastic experience: Love the option to attend classes as and when on a daily basis

Negative experience: It's just a simple jym do not expect jym teachers to show you too much that's why its so cheap!

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym with amazing trainers(Especially nick!)Any class he holds you won’t be disappointed. Never find it difficult to find equipment no matter what time of the day I go. There’s even a woman’s only section. highly recommend this gym to the locals.

Fantastic experience: Good gym

Negative experience: Honestly the gym itself isn't bad but the toilets are always broken or smelling bad and there's always abandoned weights littered around the floor and there's never enough barbell clips for the number of benches and squat tracks

Positive experience: I purchased a day pass to visit one Saturday late in the afternoon. Luton Town were playing at Wembley, so it was unusually quiet! The gym is very big and there was lots of everything. It was fairly clean but lots of the equipment, especially the machines, were quite old. I only used 4 machines in total, but 2 of them had rubber grommets missing, which meant they were quite noisy! The gym was unsupervised, so I can't comment on the staff.

Positive experience: Not many cleaning stations, some have been removed, making it a bit less pleasant. Who doesn't like clean equipment instead of sweaty equipment?

Positive experience: Love that there is now a female only section as it helps with space and getting on machines. Only problem with this area is lack of storage, nowhere for barbells or plates to be racked away. Need to start managing members more with put away/parking policies as there is still a HUGE issue with weights not being put away and parking in front of the fire exits.

Negative experience: Smells really bad in here recently and is missing equipment now its segregated. Also very slow to repair broken equipment

Positive experience: It was great first time back at the gym for a while. First time at PureGym, good facilities, added bonus having a womens only gym within the gym, not quite confident enough to share a space with the elite yet. Can pay as I go or every month so not tired to a contract.

Negative experience: Won’t bother attending… facilities are dirty, showers are dirty and the gym is so crammed with the new women’s only they are building it’s unreal. Wi-Fi also down. Machines never work.. JD gym is the same price and also a lot better.. lost me as a customer… advance warning if you do join

Negative experience: This Pure Gym has to be the one PG that has only archaic equipments disposed all over the play. There’s a strange toilet and have yet to see the changing area. Overall just confusing layout. I’ve just got an PG Newsletter email stating it’ll be refurbished in the coming months. I’d be long gone then.

Fantastic experience: Nice gym loads of training machine and spacius the place is like a maze, free parking plus very helpful and friendly staff and I would rate puregym luton a 10 out of 10 well done

Fantastic experience: In general I like PureGym, I've got multigym membership as I'm driving around and this one is biggest I've seen ( I've been to Northolt, Slough, Finchley, Fulham Broadway-smallest, Staines-very big )in most of them I'm using cross'trainers, treadmills, steps, "ski", not too much of heavy weight lifting. Always space, clean, all of them showers are top class, can't complain! Asked few questions to the guys ( random well built guys) and they are very helpful! So I can't wait to get fit...

Negative experience: Over crowded.. not even space to walk free in the free weights area… moving to JD gyms soon as its opens

Negative experience: I never visited the Luton or Dunstable gym I live in Upminster Essex. Very worrying that someone seems to have stolen my identity!

Fantastic experience: Clean equipment and always crowded .They need to expand their place .Overall 100 for them

Negative experience: Edit: the water filling station has never been clean properly, there are 2 massage chair but only one of them works It’s filthy the hygiene here is low the soap dispenser in the male bathroom haven’t been filled for more than 2 weeks the water station have never been cleaned.

Negative experience: Always cars blocking the emergency access but never any repercussions for the same cars that do it. Gym shuts down for a month or so every year due to roof flooding. Always pretty dirty and far too busy.

Positive experience: Great gym as it's open 24 hours. Would be 5 stars if the animals that attend this gym would actually put their weights away after using them.

Negative experience: PureGym Luton Very unwelcoming Intimidating Strong smell of damp Very busy even at 10pm I have been to many gyms and can easily say this is the worst. Edit: I have emailed two email addresses nearly a week ago and haven’t had a reply.

Positive experience: Been a member for a while now. When I started things were good. Now, machines are broken and not repaired, drinks machine seems watered down (I pay extra for that) But the toilets showers are alway clean.

Positive experience: Good gym overall. Has most equipment. But 150 people in the gym at once at peak time (and by peak time I mean 9pm). Madness. Absolute madness

Positive experience: Great little gym for a budget price. I tried Gloria's combat class for the first time yesterday, what an amazing instructor. Gloria did a great class and provided motivation throughout. I will definitely be doing her classes again.

Negative experience: it's an OK Gym. however the showers have glass doors which does NOT help with people around. I do wish this to have privacy it can be disturbing while getting changed. But having a female cleaner that just walks in when ever she pleases isn't nice. I don't see a male cleaner just walk into a ladies changing room without knocking. Also staff should be more welcoming to the gym but I guess you get what you pay. I may have too just start using the disabled W/C with shower as long that's has a lock and it's private too shower in. Got know one looking at any (bits).

Positive experience: Like a zoo! Bodies everywhere, toilets blocked half the time and always some piece of equipment missing or out of order. Luckily, it's cheap and has free parking.

Positive experience: No frills gym. Staff are definitely becoming friendlier but I think that's as much to do with me as it is them. I was in there earlier for an hour and there was a good clean going on with at least 3 staff involved. Tidy as it can be seeing as so many people don't put the equipment back and the same goes for the ones that don't clean down after themselves...staff are expected to have eyes in their ar$e according to some of these reviews. I feel safe there, whatever time I go, and that's worth a lot to me. See you tomorrow :)

Negative experience: I use this gym all the time. It's OK but it just isn't very clean. The stretching area is always dirty, hair and dirt around the edges constantly. Mats are filthy. Toilets are a joke. Either out of order or too dirty to use. Equipment is a bit dated now. Pretty old stuff in comparison with other gyms.

Fantastic experience: Just joined this gym today. I found the app very easy to use, booked a class and off I went. Entry system very secure but easy to use, bodytone class pitched at the right level (for me), then as I am interested in running found that the machines were plentiful, clean and available. Manager Jason very welcoming and showed me around. I've been a member at alot of gyms, and I don't think I've had better value for money. It's a no frills place, PureGym describes it perfectly.

Negative experience: Hi, I wouldn't recommend this gym. You don't get this welcoming feeling when you enter, the staff are not that friendly either. The layout of the equipment could be arranged a lot better than what it is. On the last visit, I had spoken with one of the trainers regarding the gym studio. This trainer showed irritation and disinterest. He handled the conversation very poorly and suggested I join another gym if I am not satisfied. My opinion of this gym comes from visiting Puregym's other branches St Albans and Aylesbury. The staff is very friendly there and make you feel welcomed when you come in and put in the effort to make sure you are having a great experience.

Fantastic experience: Good equipment. Good space. Good staff. I fear with automated access gyms that the staff can be non present/helpful but in my experience any issues they can sort. Good that the app lets you know how busy the gym will be down to the day and time ahead of time.

Positive experience: Overall a pleasant experience. Some pads on the equipment needs re-upholstering and the app could be quicker.. those are the only issues I have found.
