Negative experience: I signed up a few weeks ago, and now I've been told that my membership fee will increase by around £10. Which makes me wonder why the sales rep didn't tell me when I signed up? How disingenuous can you get?

Fantastic experience: I needed advice recently regarding a gym membership level and Danny Crittenden helped to sort this out for me. His approach was very professional, helpful and friendly. Thank you Danny Since being a member of the Village Gym Craig Benjamin has been my personal trainer throughout. He is very experienced and is an excellent trainer. After a replacement knee operation 3 years ago Craig worked hard to get me back to full mobility very quickly. The rehabilitation programme he set for me was excellent. He is a very patient and friendly and a great asset to the team. Thank you Craig.

Fantastic experience: Village Gym Saturday Morning Beano..... On Saturday 2nd November I met up with a friend to join him at the Village Gym Maidstone for a cheeky 2 hour session. Supposed to meet at 8am but he overslept and didn't arrive until 8.30. So had a cup of coffee at the reception (Starbucks) and people-watched until he turned up. Whilst waiting I confirmed with the coffee girls that it was free parking for 4 hours, which of course it was. When he arrived we went to the gym reception, was introduced to lady behind counter, and was given a plastic wristband which operated the lockers.Changing rooms were clean, lots of mirrors and smelt fresh. Guy changing opposite left his mobile on the seat and forgot to pick it up. I was watching to see what would happen and it was still there 5 mins later when he came back and retrieved it, so it did seem safe and friendly. The gym itself was on one floor, open planned and had all the equipment you would expect, plenty of mirrors and screens. At that time (9ish) there were about 15 people there, so equipment was easily available.(Favourite was the inclined leg press, with free weights...love that). Demographically it was 50/50 male/female in the gym itself, with ages ranging from young adult to 60 years old. After short 40 min workout (because he was late) tried out the swimming pool. There was lesson going on at the time, so we used another empty lane to knock out half a dozen lengths. Water temp fine (not cold), uncertain how long the pool but it was 17 strokes to the end (and I'm 6 foot.) Mote park is 22 strokes and is 25 m. Pressed for time and friend not a great swimmer so tested out the whirlpool. (Two showers in corner before you enter). One other person in there, friendly, chatted with her. Water warm and vibrant, but quiet enough to talk. After 10 mins, another shower and entered the sauna. Two other people in there. Wooden seating, enough room for 12-15 I reckon. No plunge pool, but the two cold showers just outside was perfect. From there tried out the empty steam room next door and once finished there, again cold shower and then spent 5 minutes on the loungers, by the whirlpool relaxing. Would def recommend, not just for the clean, fresh facilities and professional equipment, but the people we met were friendly, chatty and civil, which is important as well. Once we finished Danny who works there asked what I thought of it all as a first timer. I told him my honest thoughts, (some above) and def expected to come back again.

Fantastic experience: Me and my friend decided to visit the village gym on a whim after we grabbed a Starbucks and we absolutely adored the swimming area! The mood lighting in the studios were beautiful and the staff were so accommodating and genuine, especially Jessica. Her kindness left me feeling passionate to join and telling my sister and family to join also…

Fantastic experience: Just had a fantastic tour of this gym with Danny, who's an absolute legend. Couldn't be happier with the facilities—everything from a spacious heated pool to a sauna and steam room. Super excited to get back into shape in this awesome, modern gym!

Fantastic experience: It's a great fitness club! It has a lot of amenities, likely more than you would really end up using and a wide variety of classes which are all included in the price. The staff are super friendly and it feels like the get to know you! Paul was really helpful when I signed up. He answered all my questions and offered some free guest passes so I could bring a friend along a few times. He was not pushy at all when it came to signing up. I will be reccomending this gym to friends!

Fantastic experience: I've been training for just over a year with Lee Pointer at the Village Gym Maidstone. Healthwise its been a fantastic decision. My fitness, health and well-being have massively improved. Lee has been very motivating and supportive in my journey from couch potato to loving exercise. I have definitely been pushed to levels I didn't think possible at my age and can feel the positive benefits. At the same time Lee is conscious of age and health issues and just seems to tailor it right so you can progress but you are not pushed so far you stop enjoying the process. The gym is friendly and relaxed and all the PT's and staff are very welcoming. I highly recommend this gym. I took the decision to invest in myself and health by training with a personal trainer and I have been amazed at what I've been able to achieve with Lee's help. I highly recommend him and the Village gym.

Negative experience: I visited few times for workout starting 5-5:30am. Be aware even the gym opens 5am you can't use the lift till 5:30. I mentioned that few times so that people with disabilities or simply struggling to walk on stairs would have an access to the gym. I did inform few people as it should be easy fix but no... Today I was even told "if you got a problem you can wait 10 minutes and we will activate the lift, 5:30!" I can't fix it myself" I would think mentioning that issue was a valid point and constructive criticism for all people who need to use it in order to get to the gym and it would not be a bad idea to pass it on to the management or someone who can do something about it instead of being rude! Then I have to argue that I am able to use the gym as a multiple gym member and even after pointing that out and saying the home location I was told that I still should probably pay £6 to be able to use this gym whych I replied that I'm not going to do that I mean, what ?! Great customer service by Robyn Waller! Update I just got escorted out from the gym as they were not able to verify today if I'm a multiple gym member. Apparently it was not possible for me to finish my workout they had to escort me to the lift. It just wouldn't be fair to other paying members to leave me to finish my workout and to investigate it after in the reception area. So I called the manager in Warrington and he was shocked and asked them to let me back in as I'm a multiple gym member Well done guys! I hope I won't get arrested one day when your system is not working the way it should... In studio some of the equipment never get dismantled just like everywhere else in the country. So if you want to use different height of stepping board for example you're gonna have to do it yourself disassembled somebody else and assemble your ones as preparing equipment for workout and putting in back the way it should after is not something they would be interesting in doing. The gym got different opening hours, different lift operation hours, different changing room opening times it's just a nightmare... There is a lot of room for improvements when it comes to customer service as well. I can imagine the gym functions fine as a Hotel Gym but I would not recommend it to my friends as a gym if they are local and multiple gym access it's pretty much pointless ( you will have to explain, sometimes even argue in order to use some gyms as the Village gym is unable to provide you with anything that would give you multiple access to their facilities and if you unlucky you may get escorted of the premises ) if you go around the country I think you got pretty much cheaper and better options elsewhere I will probably keep using it till the end of my contract and that's it...

Fantastic experience: Not the most well equipped gym, especially for the price, but far from the worst. Can be very busy. However, nobody stares, everyone is super friendly, can get a spot almost all the time, and the staff are amazing, and they have a wide variety of cardio equipment. Lockers are top notch. Jacuzzi tends to be dude heavy, and akin to a tin of hotdogs, and jets are pretty weak (I prefer the smaller one). But all in all I always have a great time.

Fantastic experience: Looking forward to using the gym facilities of village gym. After a long time without going to the gym I was looking for a local gym with a sauna and steam room. So after looking at their website and filing in a contract form. I was quickly called by Paul one of the leisure membership advisors. We had a chat about the facilities and prices, and offered a tour. He was very facilitating as I had to amend our scheduled appointment a couple times. When I came onsite he took the time to show me around all the facilities and explain what the monthly subscription included, all the rooms and types of classes available, including the heated pool, sauna and steam room, changing and shower facilities. After the tour I was able to sign up and Paul was accommodating in delaying my membership start date and providing a discount. One of the things I like is the members armband which you use for entry, it's waterproof so you can swim with it and don't have to worry about keeping a key somewhere, and it is used as a wireless locker key, which is great as you don't have to worry about having a coin in order to use the lockers. Brilliant piece of kit. I also understand it links with your workouts as well in the app but I'm yet to use that feature. I will be heading it out when my membership starts in about a week's time. Lastly I was about to book a fitness consultation for my first day, and will book a personal trainer session after this. All this is included in the monthly subscription as standard which is great. I will also upload some photos of the facilities when I'm back onsite so people can see the great facilities available in the gym, and current on my experience on the first workout and fitness consultation.

Fantastic experience: Went in discuss membership, had very good conversation with Sophie who was very helpful and understood my needs. Have induction session booked and cannot wait to get my fitness journey started

Positive experience: “I love this place! I usually go to the gym and spa, which have excellent facilities. The staff is amazing, and from time to time, I also visit the Bar & Grill. Lovely atmosphere and great food!”

Negative experience: There is no air conditioning and no water fountain that works. This has been an issue for a substantial period of time and completely ruins the experience. The gym staff are really friendly, but of course there is nothing they can do about these issues so I will be staying at another hotel from now on (this was the reason I chose this over the Premier Inn). Many people have complained and it doesn’t sound like these things will be fixed for a long time. Also, the jacuzzi has been broken for a while. I completely get that things break but the lack of effort to get any of these key things fixed is not right when you are paying for a service.

Negative experience: I did really love this gym, staff are friendly and helpful, but since this year it’s really gone down hill and I’m probably not going to re-new my year membership. The gym equipment isnt clean. The jacuzzi never works. Not sure if the AC in the gym switched off or just broken. I tried to work out today and I got uncomfortably hot within 10 mins and 2 of the running machines I used at the back stopped working “machine has shutdown” maybe due to the heat. I ended up leaving after 20 minutes as I got frustrated. Just a real shame as this was a brilliant gym.

Negative experience: Unfortunately the spa facility has been broken for over a month and has barely been working since joining 6 months ago.. I appreciate things will break but this is beyond reasonable service.. so if you think your joining a health club with a good spa you are mistaken.. Unfortunately this takes away all the goodness from the place.. I agree to pay my money and they agree to offer a service which isn't delivered but it's OK it's all in your contract that they can do whatever and take away any service so find another health club or just go to a gym...

Fantastic experience: Very nice gym and swimming pool etc.. would recommend. Has suana and steam room, good changing rooms. Clean and tidy and friendly staff

Negative experience: I have been trying for over 3 weeks to cancel my membership at Maidstone Village Gym as the Yoga classes are always full with a long waiting list - even when trying to book in advance. I spoke to them about this a few weeks into getting my membership and i was told they would be opening another larger room upstairs as its a popular class. However, since getting the larger room it seems the problem has gotten worse. They said i must stay on my contract until its end, which is July to cancel but i will then be subjected to the 3 months notice. Like, what the heck! I was advised to speak to the Club Manager who wasnt available at the time, so i left message and she was meant to call back, she hasnt contacted me. i have called a few times since, but shes either unavailable or they dont answer. I recently moved to Maidstone from London and wanted to join classes I liked to make new friends but I havent been able to get on the classes i desire and each month they are taking money yet not providing the service. I am not a gym buff and made all that clear when i signed up. I would have preferred to find an independent class. If you are looking for professionalism and discretion, do not sign up to this gym. I feel stuck and the managers are dismissive once you want support. This situation could have been dealt with much better than what it has! Very disappointed - I can even go else where to make friends in this kind of setting until i get a resolution from the Club Manager. I suffer from anxiety (which they know about) and I thought signing up was a good idea. However, this is starting to trigger me and have an adverse effect. I do not recommend at this point

Negative experience: The gym facilities are okay although it’s usually quite packed the pool is fairly good aswell however this place is extortionate if you sign up you will have to pay for another 90 days after you cancel whether you use it or not this had not been made readily apparent at all nor was it communicated in any way until I had chosen to leave quite frankly it’s daylight robbery trust me take your money and business elsewhere for your sake

Fantastic experience: Lovely warm long swimming pool. A well equipped Gym. Also lots of classes. Also members get lots of perks, monthly wine club and coffee mornings.

Negative experience: I love coming to this pool, but management is horrible. I’ve been waiting for a refund for 2 months now and no one is even replying to my emails. At reception, each person gives me a different answer and they seem clueless about most of my questions. It seems that it’s very hard to get a decent customer service here…

Fantastic experience: Club rooms are to die for, but there is one small point that spoils it. The water pressure in the shower. When the handset is turned upside-down, the water stops. Apart from that, the whole experience of the Village Hotel, is second to none in its price bracket.

Fantastic experience: I had a personal session with Lee and although I was sceptical at first, he reassured me and changed my mind. I tend to stick to the classes because I feel intimidated by the gym floor. He explained all the equipment I would be using and most importantly asked how I was! We had a really informal session that really put me at ease. He was extremely helpful and encouraging by showing me the correct techniques and explaining breathing techniques too. I absolutely loved his boxing pads session, well I loved it all actually, and would highly recommend him. I cannot wait to introduce my friends to his sessions. Not only was his session great, he was really friendly and cheerful.

Fantastic experience: Love coming to the gym here. Very clean gym and swimming pool, very helpful staff. Large carport that's easily accessible. Great high tech equipment. Fabulous gym and swimming pool, worth the money.

Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for nearly 4 years. Gym is ok and well equipped but unless you go really late in the evening it is so busy you will struggle to get a full workout. The pool is what it is, but the jacuzzi is rarely working. Over the years there have been many upgrades and improvements, frustrating as this is it is understandable, especially at the price point. Now here is the kicker and the reason I will never go back, after 4 years I have had to cancel my membership, only to find out there is a 90 day cancellation period. So I now have to pay the best part of £180 pounds for a facility I will not use, this is daylight robbery (but its fine for according to them as it is in the contract even though it is never pointed out). For me, this is not personally a problem but if you had to do it for financial reasons this will certainly be a kicker. This is the first membership I have ever had with such a long cancellation period, it is daylight robbery and they should be ashamed. I understand now why people are going to these £25 a month gyms with 1 month cancellation period.

Negative experience: Summary: Overpriced for the level of quality. - This review specifically regards the gym/ pool/ jacuzzi. (I give the gym 1 ⭐️ , but other areas are sufficient if still somewhat overpriced, so I’m adding a star to be fair) I’m going to be balanced here but I stand by my rating purely based on the price to quality ratio. I’ve been to the village gym multiple times across multiple years, spanning back to 2017. I went because my dad goes and so when I was younger he’d pay for me. Positives: The lockers are cool (if somewhat unnecessary, as you then have to carry a band around with you), they offer free bottled water and towels, and the staff are nice. Negatives: -A day pass now is £20! -Even after taking £20 from you, you’re required to give them your phone number, email address and full name (and other opt details). -The jacuzzi never works/ is on and you pay the same even if it doesn’t. -They regularly turn off the AC in the gym which drastically heats it up, since it’s underground and even takes some of the humidity from the pool. Months after COVID, they still used COVID as an excuse to do keep the AC off; which is very convenient when it’s a known fact that one of the largest running costs is AC for any business. -I also despise the music but admittedly that’s personal preference. These points combined prove to me that the business treats its customers more as cash cows to exploit for a sudo-premium-quality service, than as respectable customers paying a premium. I feel like they’re running on the concept of people liking to pay extra, thinking they’re somewhere cool and special, but the reality is the competition is not only far cheaper, but is now far superior in multiple areas. For the money, there are far better gyms, and far better places to go swimming. I have never left there (all the time I have paid myself and gone because friends wanted to) feeling satisfied with the overall experience. Perhaps if the day pass was £10 and I didn’t have to give also them my data for them to spam me and sell to third parties, it’d be worth it. But it’s simply not right now. The bottom line is, unless you’re purely after locational convenience, or like feeling scammed, don’t waste your money. I hate leaving bad reviews but I felt I had to say something as time and again this business has disappointed me with their lack of regard for their customers. This is not to do with the staff but the business practices themselves.

Fantastic experience: I have just joined the gym. Sophie showed me around. The smile on this ladies face just tells you all you need to know about environment. She kept smiling all the way trough. The space looked clean. The equipment is new and great quality. The reason I signed up was Sophie’s smile and her attitude. If the person takes their job with such a love, and happiness involved, keeping their smile all the time… tells you a lot about the actual environment. Over the years I’ve been a member of Loyds gym in London and some other posh gym in central london, trust me I have seen it all. This gym is aesthetically nice, well organised, clean, well spaced, and uses same equipment as the most expensive gyms in the country. Also priced adequately. Staff looks friendly. On top of being a member you get a great benefits too. Oh and the pool area. So in other gyms the atmosphere is cold, here it’s hot steaming hot. The only reason I hated swimming in the pool I used to get cold. Here the temperature is kept just right so you can swim and enjoy your self properly. Apparently they do not switch on conditioning system in the pool are this is why it’s so warm and nice.

Negative experience: Takes weeks for gym equipment to be fixed, bottles left in gym, Spa is broken, how long is that going to be out of use. Expensive gym and not worth joining. Gym opens 5am but changing rooms don't open until 6am, which means bags are littered around gym

Negative experience: Today I had the opportunity for a spontaneous visit to the gym after trick or treating. I was in the gym for 35 minutes enjoying a great workout as I always do, minding my own business. Next thing I know I was approached by George who said that I could not be in the gym with jeans so I need to leave. I was shocked, truly as I didn't know jeans weren't allowed. I simply asked to see the policy where it shows I can't wear jeans. I laughed because I was in shock. George disappeared and I turned around to see 3 members of staff all staring at me through the window. This made me feel very uncomfortable so I walked out the gym room and into the corridor where the staff were stood. One member of staff asked if I was OK working out in my jeans but he came across with attitude and sarcasm as If I had annoyed him in some manor by wearing jeans. I asked what the issue is and was told its against health and safety. That line was repeated several times with no backup of the policy. I was then told by George that he could print the policy for me and I was shown to reception. Less than a minute later the club manager Paula appeared and immediately said that I was having issues with staff telling me that I couldn't wear jeans. I said I don't have an issue, I'm the one wearing the jeans and I've been ok. I just wanted to see it written down that I can't wear jeans. I was advised to go through the terms of my contact. Paula came across very rude at this point and I was surrounded by 5 members of staff who were very intimidating and made me feel like I was a criminal and under arrest. I simply wore jeans, I didn't know it was illegal and I was happy to stop my workout and head to the pool instead. As a paying customer I expect to be treated with dignity and respect but I was treated as a hostile. They could have used discretion or told me to change. But instead were insisting that I would need to leave the club. In this situation where I am uncomfortable I didn't know how to behave and laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation. My gym bag was in the changing rooms and as I was sweaty from my workout I needed a shower. I sat on the bench cooling down before changing. George walked past 3 times before telling me that I need to leave the club. I asked to shower and he said I need to leave. I then said there's only an hour left until you close, can I head to the pool and shower as I may not get chance for the rest of the week. I was told to leave. I asked if I come back at 06:30 in the morning when they open, will I be allowed back in and George said "probably not" I was shocked and appaled at the situation. I simply wore jeans, I was fine working out in them and did not know it was against health and safety. I wasn't approached delicately or spoken to in a decent manor but instead was already being told to leave before I had a chance to finish my workout. I was surrounded my 5 members of staff. Paula could have taken me to the side and spoken to me discretely but instead decided to have an open conversation in reception, embarrassing me. I wasn't threatening in anyway, my hands were on top of my head the entire time. I was laughing at the situation and that instead of their being a decent conversation, I was being forced to leave the club in front of other members of the gym. One member of staff also said that they are bored of hearing me, asked why I am still there and said they would walk me out of the club. Again treated me like a criminal. For a club with high standards, the customer service levels were appalling this evening and I am shocked at the behaviour. I won't be visiting the club again and expect an apology.

Negative experience: Needs a lick of paint! Overpriced!

Fantastic experience: Thanks to Lee and the Young at Heart class I've just renewed for another year. The gym, pool and classes continue to be the best in Maidstone. The Young at Heart class is brilliant. I can see good progress in my fitness. Lee, the tutor, is perfect for teaching this class. His enthusiasm and cheerfulness encourage everyone to be the best they can.

Negative experience: The gym and facilities are great but if you want or need to cancel your membership there is absolutely no one you can speak to about it. Tried the online live bot, what a joke and when you actually manage to get a number no-one answers and it just rings off. Fine with taking my money each month but disappointed with the lack of or nonexistent customer service team.

Negative experience: Maidstone Village Gym: I visited the gym on Friday 29th Sept and Sian Tooze show me around and gave me membership information. I took my time to think about it and on was planning to join the gym on Monday 2nd Oct. On Sunday I received the first call and I told them I was interested in joining the gym. Immediately, they requested the money, which I can understand. Due to personal circumstances on that day, I was not able to pay the membership on the day. Its crazy on the numerous calls I received on Sunday and Monday!! I actually had to stop working and pay the membership just so I am left alone. Anyways, I joined the gym on the 2nd Oct but they started the membership on the incorrect date. Also, I tried to login on the website and app but nothing was working. I emailed Sian Tooze and Sophie Osgood but no reply. I have not received an apology for there poor customer service skills/approaches. On the 5th Oct, I called the gym and asked to speak to manager. The manager is Ryan Burke who had to raise an IT ticket to resolve my access (very helpful!). Furthermore, Sian booked me for initial PT induction on the wrong time and different PT than the one I requested. Ryan is following this up as well. However, I have been on waiting list for all classes and cannot book anything in advance. What is the point paying for a gym membership when I cannot attend any classes? Your systems and CS skills require improvements!!

Positive experience: Fantastic staff, well equipped, clean. I do 3 - 4 classes a week. They are diverse, fun and challenging. The instructors are excellent (special shout out to Jane who is one in a million). However, all the staff are great without exception.

Fantastic experience: Plenty of class available across the day, free parking and lovely shower after workout. The village gym staff all helpful and friendly.

Negative experience: I was a member here for 7 years before Covid. I have rejoined after being away for 3 years due to lockdown. Whilst the Village gym has a good member base. There are a lot of the facilities that are broken awaiting repair. Or just don't work full stop. It's very disappointing when they don't seem to bother about what their members want. I have emailed the Gym manager and the Operations manager regarding the latest set of broken equipment but have had no response rom either. I wouldn't usually bother complaining but it seems to take age for anything to get repaired. ‍♂️

Negative experience: Poo in the pool life guards not bothered when reported & said it 'disappeared' when in fact it was still there very visible. Big plasters floating about, jaccuzi never working. Definitely going downhill.

Positive experience: Nice enough place but gets very crowded at times meaning you can't always get access to all the amenities.

Fantastic experience: I've been really enjoying all the different classes - there's something for everyone, excellent supportive instructors and great facilities. One of the best gyms in Kent for price quality ratio.

Positive experience: I came for a quick swim and to use the sauna. It was great for what I needed - Julia in particular was very friendly and helpful with ensure I had what I need. The jacuzzi seemed slightly broken, apart from that everything else was good.

Fantastic experience: Just attended the “young at heart functional fitness “ circuit class led by Lee Pointer. What a brilliant class great workout for is over 60 somethings. Come on village gym we need this brilliant class every week.

Fantastic experience: I use the gym and pool most days and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. There is always someone to ask regarding gym equipment and general heath amd nutrition. Fellow gym goers and swimmers friendly eith a great atmosphere there all the time

Fantastic experience: Like every other village gym, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The customer service at the village gym far exceeds all other places I've been to. All the facilities were tidy and clean.

Positive experience: Been a member for over a year now. Enjoy the classes, with some very good instructors. The gym itself is good, though could have a bit more floor space, and there are a few pieces of equipment which are missing that other gyms offer. The pool facilities are very decent - much better than any other Village Hotel I’ve been to (as long as the Jacuzzi isn’t undergoing maintenance).

Positive experience: I use the gym at The Village Hotel. The staff are friendly and supportive. The gym is clean and well stocked with modern equipment. The swimming pool is clean and airy, as are the changing rooms. If I had to make a negative comment about anything, it would be the lack of private changing facilities in the ladies' changing area, here are onkt 2 available, I'm quite shy, so do use them to hide away when changing...

Fantastic experience: Blonde girl at reception, Sian (I think her name was) was super helpful helping me sort out classes. Lovely gym, would deffo recommend.

Negative experience: Staff are really helpful and are doing their best. The gents changing rooms toilet area is disgusting. I asked three times last week whilst on site of someone could put some cleaner on the urinals, each time they said they would but it was still disgusting when I left. Went in today and sure enough all the urinals are in the same disgusting state. Disappointing

Negative experience: We went to use the pool and sauna for a spa day with girls. The pool was ok but the hygiene of the place leaves a lot to be desired. Also the jacuzzi was not available due to someone dropping a glass in there and no one told us about it but they were happy to fully charge us. General hygiene was very poor, we will not come back and will not recommend it to anyone.

Positive experience: Used the Groupon deal to experience the Village Gym. Place was clean and well equipped. Worth making note of when swimming lessons are as losing a lane of swimming makes the pool quite busy.
