Positive experience: Expensive gym but has a pool which is ideal as there’s not many in the city. It’s a shame they cut their hours and they close early on weekends. Overall a decent gym and pool and classes. Seems like it’s improved over the years.
Positive experience: Seem to be always cold in the ladies changing room, shower not very clean Either.
Negative experience: Sadly there is not a lot of good to say about this gym. A real disappointment. Out of date equipment that is not maintained and incorrect clocks. Bikes are always breaking. Showers are poor for this type of priced membership. Pool is dirty, and the sauna always smells of sewage so there's definitely a drains problem. It's a pity really as if Nuffield actually spent money this gym could be great. I've cancelled my membership and I won't be back.
Fantastic experience: Been a member for a few weeks now. Really impressed. The main reason I joined was for the swimming pool as I want to improve my swimming and it hasn’t disappointed. Enjoying using the stream room too after my swim! Friendly staff, clean facilities & showers are just perfect! The gym is also really good, spacious and can’t fault it in any way. It’s a pleasure to be a member of the Nuffield Health Derby.

Positive experience: It’s like having another mortgage
Negative experience: Member for over 14 years and left as Nuffield no longer care about loyal members. Quantity of people over quality is the way this place has gone. Facilities have been in decline for years and members are expected to just put up with it and now pay more for the privilege. Staff have always been helpful, but like most companies, they just want ever increasing numbers of people to join, whilst forgetting those who have been loyal. Spa facilities constantly smell of rotting Cabbage and cleaning is not a priority. They have done the least amount possible to "renovate" areas to keep costs down and you can tell. I have submitted a complaint to the management and did not receive a response. If someone from HR or Head office is reading this, please contact me. I would be more than happy to talk to you. Cheers
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool and gym equipment. Excellent trainer (Nathan Rigby) showed me the ropes.
Positive experience: I have been a member for nearly 20 years and this gym has gone downhill since Nuffield took over from Virgin. The spa pool is closed; many machines are out of order; the women’s changing rooms are cold and two temporary showers have been sitting there for months. TVs on many machines don’t work and the programmes are incorrect. ( example no BBC1) I like the Aqua classes and I have always found the staff friendly but this gym needs a lot of tlc.

Negative experience: Nuffield are running the gym into the ground. I've been a member for a while and its gotten worse over time. Go somewhere cheaper or David Lloyd's.
Negative experience: I went to the attend the gym for a recent sign up which was a friends and family promotion. The guy at desk was very warm and friendly, however the bloke by the name of Alex that initially came to do the deal with me to sign me up was very rude and abrupt with me which left me upset and visibly shaken as a suffer from really bad anxiety. I don't usually give bad reviews about any establishment but on this occasion I couldn't ignore my bad experience and I don't want anyone that comes to sign up to this gym to suffer I similar experience.
Negative experience: Tired looking gym with old and broken equipment and abandoned areas like the spa pool. Pool is good and gym floor is still useful, but it needs a good refurb.
Positive experience: The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful. The gym itself is ok. Lots of broken equipment in the gym area and with the spa facilities. The location is great, very central. I received a discounted student membership and still couldn't justify the cost with all the broken equipment.
Fantastic experience: This gym is the best equipped I’ve visited for a long time. I was passing through Derby so came here for a workout. The cafe menu is far superior to my local Nuffield as is the decor and cleanliness. Now I want to move to Derby so this can be my local gym
Positive experience: Good for Hyrox training. I’ve been a member for a year and a half now. Overall I have no really complaints, it’s probably the best gym I’ve been a member of facilities wise. Many things here are great. But I’d really like it if they improved a few things: • Running machines are constantly breaking - but they do get them fixed. However, there’s always 2/3 machines out of use. • equipment maintenance, rowing machines, ski machines etc - all feel knacked now, they need a refresh or replacement. Useable but bad kit. • doing classes in the main gym where people want to train. Annoying to walk in and want to get going only to find a class starting in the exact area you want to use. Use a separate room! • 2 ski machines isn’t enough. 4 broken rowers isn’t enough for the amount of members.
Negative experience: Broken equipment for weeks and maybe months. Sauna and steam room became a joke, probably saving on bills as you can sit there for half an hour and barely make any sweat. A month ago had a debt collecting agency chasing me, claiming that owe Nuffield 63£. Check direct debit and all payments were up to date. Have contacted general manager explaining the situation and the reply was: yes your payments are up to date I will contact them. Didn't even apologized for this misunderstanding. Will be considering moving with kids to another gym.

Fantastic experience: Great to see the new sauna, steam & chill out area. Has the best spa & gym in Derby but what makes this gym really special is how friendly & helpful the staff are. They always have time for you & say hello. It's a great atmosphere & everyone is really accepting no matter what age, sex shape or size you are. You can tell the staff are happy working there & get treated well, it's shows in the way they treat theirs members.
Negative experience: Overcrowded , actually not very safe area to work out too many people have been let in on some offers or passes , cant even get parked up sometimes
Negative experience: Paying £60 a month for no spa due to electricity price rise. Multiple machines out of order for weeks
Negative experience: Spa broke for 2 months in summer. Nothing, no reimbursement, vouchers, nothing. Now e mailing members saying they can’t afford to heat it. Didn’t cost them anything for 2 months !! Pathetic considering the monthly cost. 6 machines out of order plus both water fountains broken . Gone downhill fast since taking over from virgin. Can’t provide the facilities I signed up to because of costs for a company this size it’s insulting. Just greedy hiding behind costs. Avoid this place
Negative experience: This gym and some staff are a joke, the spa was out for months, then they reopen it just to let members know the spa pool will be closing for 6 months to save money and that they’d be no reduction in membership price, the benches were ripped all over the gym made a complaint nothing got done, turned to social media to complain and a week later it was fixed, then had a member of staff come up to me while training to tell me not to post on social media about the poor standard of the gym! (They have blocked me on social media now) 1/3 of Treadmills have been out of action for over 6 months, cable machines always breaking, changing rooms and gym covered in dust! AVOID

Not only does the gym help me with my workout motivation, it also helps me relax, clear my mind off things and makes me feel positive. Negative experience: I usually come to the gym with my brother who is 14 and I am 15 and are allowed in on my own but today they refused to let us in. This was rude and out of the blue. I highly advise you if you are under 15 do not go in when the Karen is on the reception.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym. Everyone is very friendly. It has great equipment and they have managed C19 very well with the restrictions that they have put in place re social distancing. The facilities are clean and tidy. And staff are lovely and work very hard.The pool is nice and the children's pool is great. The only issue is that they are hard to get through to on the phones and in the ladies changing room there is a medical/harmful waste (for medical purpose such as syringes) balancing directly next to the sinks which is unhygienic and further thought should be given to the location of this. However, I still give this gym 5 stars on the basis of how pleasant this gym is, how nice the staff are and the fact that the aforementioned issues are easily resolved.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, has everything that you could want to work out with. Good changing facilities and excellent attentive staff.
Negative experience: Had a blood test and was told it's going to take 2 daysfor the results, it's going to be a week tomorrow tried contacting them still no results!!

Positive experience: Overpriced. Fairly dated. The local council gyms are better maintained. Particularly alfreton and ripley.
Fantastic experience: This is not my first visit to the place. The entrance was well maintained; clean and presentable. The staff greeted us when we got to the desk; great to see more than one receptionist dealing with all the other guests. We were told where everything was and allowed to go our own way and was told that if we had any questions we could go back to reception. The gym was pretty busy but there were staff on hand to help. Overall the experience was great and would recommend going.

Positive experience: I didn’t use the gym. Am I alone in seeing them as a modern torture chamber? My visit was made to relax in their spa facilities which I enjoyed very much. The indoor pool was segregated into swimming lanes for slow, medium and fast lengths with an additional section for water aerobics. A lifeguard was in attendance. My purpose was to use the sauna, steam room and generously large communal jacuzzi. All these facilities were exceedingly pleasant and proved to be a relaxing (and healthy?) way to spend a couple of hours. The mens changing room was large and functional with lockers requiring a small padlock (not provided). Showers had a hair and body wash dispenser but you must take your own towel. The staff with whom I had interaction were efficient and pleasant. Four hours parking is provided without charge. For my visit I used a free taster day pass. I wouldn’t pay for ‘gym’ membership myself but my impression of the facilities were very positive.

Positive experience: Staff: gym floor and class staff are friendly, the reception staff always greet me and are happy to help, with the odd one blunder like reading out loud the incorrect status of someone’s DD, but generally ok. Classes: generally full, but managing to squeeze in most of the time. Gym floor: some free weights in another part of the gym for ladies would be nice, as when there is a bunch of men knocking weights about, it can be intimidating to go into the free weights area. The recent renovation was needed. Cleanliness is below par, noticed a lot of floor dust on the floor in the rig area... so must have been there for a long time. Spa area: if any part of the spa is out of order, please put the notices inside the changing rooms and not at the spa door! It’s too late to learn of this at that point. The timer on the jacuzzi is a nightmare, never know when it’s meant to come on, the button is not responsive and whatever chemical is added to the water makes the water foam and the eyes burn. Please put up clear notices that mobile phones are NOT allowed by anyone in this area. The steam room is great ...when it works. Changing rooms: all fine, shower gel dispensers do not work however. Mothers with children perhaps could have the corner areas and not the middle where the children wouldn’t disturb everyone. Cafe: great menu, nice staff, only problem is the screaming children again, running wild. Parking: ample. Location: ideal, close to the A52/A38
Negative experience: Shocking! Treat staff unfaily and is a company that does not follow the Equality Act! If the staff were happy and good at what they do then the gym would be a nice place but staff aren’t trained properly and are miserable as they are not being treated equal.

Negative experience: I been member around 9 years with some gaps in time when I was working on contract in Germany. Swimming pool is good, Gym and classes are good however Spa standard extremely dropped down in the last three years. Fountain level is to high so is splashing water in jacuzzi hurts people eyes during process is in cycle, when cycle is finish you do not know how long you need to waiting for press button and active cycle again. Cycle should be automatically constantly on. In Dry Sauna few years ago was decent heater, some sound of forest/birds from speakers and was more spaces before taken refurbishment, in Sanarium was decent lights with changing colours every few minutes. All those things has gone.Why ? In Jacuzzi you cannot fully breathing because of some chlorine steam/gases in the air coming out with bubbles most of time when process is active(In cycle) and you are in Jacuzzi. They must adding some chemicals to water. Once you enter to Spa area and Jacuzzi is active in cycle there is something in the air making eye pain. Spa area standard is very poor. Dirty changing room area, showers area wasn't improved since last few years. I would suggest for person who has responsibility for looking after swimming pool and Spa area to go somewhere to other Spa areas in the UK or Europe and checking how good standards other facility offers for similar price. "To management ---->Please change something on Spa for better because you are in risk to losing customers"

Positive experience: Nice gym, friendly and helpful staff, nice food and good classes. It's always been clean when I've attended. Some people just love to complain.
Negative experience: Got much worse since Nuffield Health took it over. Dirty changing room/loo area, water in showers cold, no loo roll/soap/shower gel any more. Doors on toilets don't close let alone lock. Pool constantly closing because of some inexplicable problem with "chlorine levels". Floors in the exercise studios covered in mud (?) - can't think why. Waste of money.

Negative experience: Changing rooms and showers unhygienic compared to standards between 2007-2014. Cafe is farcical with food regularly unavailable and inconsistent service standards. Despite a £900k improvement investment, it’s a shame they didn’t replace the boilers given there has been no hot water on at least 4 occasions in the past 2 months - pretty shabby for a club that pitches itself against the elite.

Negative experience: The place was never a stand out gym when it was Virgin, but at least it had enough equipment. Sadly Nuffield want to make it a Physio and treatment centre at the expense of gym equipment. Whilst they may boast that their refit is replacing old equipment, the gym floor is getting smaller and there will be fewer machines. Seemingly Nuffield have missed the point: what matters is not the newness of the equipment but that there is enough for everyone to use. Sadly the ratio of members to equipment seems to have been lacking from their plans.

Negative experience: Gone down hill since Nuffield took over. Sauna area is dirty, dirt on bottom of spa pool. Informed management and 3 months on it's still dirty. The numbers have dropped significantly which is blatantly obvious and this figure is apparently in the thousands. It feels like a neglected gym now. Standards have dropped so much and they don't do anything about it. The sauna temperature is also always dropping and the same old loud crowd nearly every evening. Spa pool desperately needs a service as most of the jets are blocked so it doesn't function proper like when virgin had it.

Positive experience: Been at gym from first day when Virgin, excellent club had a library to borrow books and purchase, had a proper chef did Sunday dinners etc Nice carpeted area cosy. Start going down hill when Virgin did it's refit 2 years ago like a cold waiting room now. Design of child's play area totally in wrong position next to quite area? Nuffield now so give them a chance but not good. Taken the electronic feedback on weight machines? (saving money). Cutting staff hour's on cleaning so no cleaners in middle of every day? Restaurant they don't clean tables now. Only thing it's got is excellent 25 metre pool why because Derby Council can't get it's act together and build one.
