Donyngs Leisure Centre, located in Redhill, United Kingdom, offers a wide array of recreational facilities that cater to different interests, making it a great destination for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. The centre features an excellent swimming pool with constant supervision and health precautions in place, ensuring a safe environment for swimmers. Visitors often rave about the friendly and helpful staff who create a welcoming atmosphere upon arrival.
Key Features:
- Great facilities including a well-equipped gym and a variety of classes
- Accessible swimming options, including a baby pool and heated areas
- Ample parking available for visitors
- Affordable options for non-members, such as 'pay to swim'
- Relaxing soft play area for young children
- Cleanliness generally praised, with some areas needing attention
While many users enjoy their experiences, there have been some concerns about certain facilities showing signs of age and occasional overcrowding, particularly in the gym and during peak hours. The changing rooms have received mixed reviews regarding cleanliness, and some visitors have noted that the pool water can be on the cooler side. Overall, Donyngs Leisure Centre is well received and stands out for its excellent staff and variety of services, making it a solid choice for leisure activities in the area.

Donyngs Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Went here for a birthday party. Well played out. I had never been here before and the staff were friendly and helpful so I could find my way. The only downside were the toilets, only two for two children parties going on at the same time so they were busy at times. But then, as I've never been before, there are probably some more around I just didn't see any signs.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities here. Excellent pool and constant supervision at poolside. Showers for before and after pool use, so health precautions are Excellent also. Greeted by very pleasant staff upon arrival, and 'pay to swim' available for non-members. Love it here.
Fantastic experience: Great day at donyngs leisure centre for Surrey open judo competition.
Fantastic experience: Authentically, an amazing ensemble of everything that's good, leisure, and beneficial to life. It is a lovely place to distress, chill, and invigorate the body, mind, and mental alertness for optimal day to day living. I will definitely like to visit the centre more to enjoy the goodness of the recreational activities therein!!!
Fantastic experience: It's a very nice place to train.
Positive experience: It's a bit run down but you always get a nice welcome and places like this are so important!
Fantastic experience: I have been here many times with the family to swim at this pool, and lockers are great they are £1.00 pound coin operated, which is returned when you are, finished with the locker. There is a baby pool with steps, also an entrance for disabled people to pool, side at the baby pool which, is super heated, so when you get out of the pool and head to the changing rooms there is hot showers available to get rid of the Chloride also free hair dryers if you wish to use them to dry your hair before dressing at your locker or using a locker.
Fantastic experience: Went to Donyngs for the first time today, for a swim, lady on reception was extremely friendly and helpful, will b back
Positive experience: I've only used the gym and the pool so my review is specific only to those facilities. The pool is a little chilly, as others have said, however it isn't a spa pool, it's a swimming pool, so it's going to be chilly and the point is that you swim to warm up. The pool area and changing rooms are broadly clean, with enough locker space. The gym is pretty well equipped, but at its busy times you will struggle to find usable machines and equipment. The users aren't very good at replacing equipment so you can spend a while looking around for certain weights. And the rules regarding not taking in coats and bags aren't enforced, so finding mat space, for example, can become difficult and you end up having to shove some strangers bag to the side because you can't find the owner. Without wanting to sound like I'm young-person-bashing, the after school groups seem to use the gym more as a hang-out, and people of all ages don't seem to have developed the gym etiquette you find in other places regarding being sat on equipment looking at your phone for prolonged periods, denying the equipment to others. The student groups also tend to leave a lot of their belongings scattered in the changing rooms instead of using the lockers which are plentiful. The staff are very friendly, but it would be preferable if they enforced some of the rules & policies. And as a minor criticism I'd prefer lockers you can padlock instead of needing a £1 coin. Overall, it's fine if you're not a core-hours user - it would definitely be better if the policies were enforced, but if you're someone trying to do some exercise after work, particularly in term-time, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Easily found somewhere to park facilities were kept clean staff were friendly too
Positive experience: With Wacky Kingdom fully booked today, we decided to drop into the leisure centre. The soft play is a decent size although lacking in big slides which are always the main attraction for my girls. That said there were tunnels joining different parts of the setup together which were fun to navigate. All the usual offerings were included too as the photos show. The huge bonus was cost which was only £12 for the girls and both parents. Very good value these days. It was an easy way to kill an hour and the wall art was also impressive and my eldest enjoyed identifying all the characters.
Negative experience: Gym overcrowded, sadly no sauna or steam room. Also the opening hours has been reduced. It used to be a 5 star. Really shame.
Positive experience: Only a review for soft play. Not a lot of facilities, drink or snacks not available. Maybe I missed them. Not a fault of donnings but all the parents follow the kids around like morons, micro managing everything every child does. Makes it really difficult for confident children to use the apparatus as designed when pushing through 4 adults to use a single slide. Won't be going again due to the calibre of clientele. Won't find these people in the parks getting muddy and wet with the kids so I'll go there instead.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly and helpful staff. Gym is huge and well equipped. Can get busy as all places can at peak times.
Fantastic experience: I take my child to adventure land swimming, and for the price, it's hard to beat
Positive experience: It's great for if you want to go do low-key exercise but isn't very fun for families as it is just a kids pool, a big pool, a gym and some other activities
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Go 3 times a week. Very professional place to be.
Positive experience: Soft play, quiet as anything had the place to ourselves which seems great and it was but lacked a bit of atmosphere as a result! Can't eat anything down there
Fantastic experience: Dongnys Leisure Centre is a wonderful place to come to. I Love swimming ⁵
Negative experience: The gym is okay, often very crowded. Staff helpful. However, the lack of a sauna and steam room is a shame these days. That's why we decided to go to London with the whole family. I'm very curious why the sauna is closed and when customers can expect it to reopen?
Fantastic experience: Lovely Soft Play area
Fantastic experience: Ample parking Friendly staff Excellent facilities
Negative experience: The staff are friendly and helpful and the pool is clean enough. Changing rooms have a smell to them and despite not allowing shoes in the changing rooms, there's nowhere to sit to take them off before entering. I won't be taking my baby swimming there again as the pool temperature is not displayed either on site or on their website. On previous visits the temperature in the learner pool was perfectly comfortable for my 4 month old but on the third visit it was noticeably colder and we had to leave. When raising this with the manger he kindly explained that the temperature of the pool should be 30° but had been higher for the last few weeks. During our visit it was 29°, a dangerous temperature for babies that I hadn't expected as baby classes regularly take place in the same pool. If the pool temperature had been visible I would not have wasted my time nor money. I certainly wouldn't have taken my baby into the water.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: Great soft play. Pretty cheap as well
Negative experience: The smell of urine in the female swimming changing rooms was over whelming needs to be sorted properly and deep cleaned will be going somewhere else
Fantastic experience: Wonderful softplay and facilities for kids birthdays! Great staff as well! Very much recommended!
Positive experience: Mens swim changing smells like a public toilet, always feels grubby. Other than that, it's OK, showing its age and needs some investment!
Fantastic experience: Swimming instructor was very good
Fantastic experience: Great leisure center with quality facilities.
Positive experience: Attended with a very mobile 2 year old and a non walking 14 month old and we had a blast! Plenty of seating at one end of the soft play and enough room for guardians to wriggle around after the little ones. Some of the interactive wall features were damaged or missing but the padding was all intact and well placed around the larger climbable structures. The slot times were regular and as far as I could tell unregulated. Useful toilet opposite. I couldn't find anywhere nearby to grab a snack or water but there were things available at reception. We had a fantastic time but the snack machine behind reception was faulty much to the disappointment of my now overtired 2 year old!
Negative experience: Always over crowded after school can barely get onto a piece of equipment within your hour. Equipment is old and tattered and people never clean there sweat off the equipment.
Positive experience: Excellent facility for working out. It's well-equipped, and the staff is helpful and friendly. There's also a great selection of classes offered. Our service accommodation guests love here as well
Fantastic experience: The leisure centre...is very good, I just think it needs more space for crossfit, plus a room for lifting weights, more ketlebells, heavier weights. plus a leg press 45. and those equipments when entering the workout area on the right side are unnecessary and are almost not used.
Fantastic experience: Best leisure centre in Redhill, Reigate area
Positive experience: Judo comp. held today and the venue was clean, sufficient needs provided for with friendly staff.
Negative experience: The website is appalling bad. It's so difficult to use I actually can't log in as there's multiple accounts linked to my email and no way for me to know what reference I need to enter. I'm a software engineer and I literally cannot understand how to book through the site. Please rebuild your booking systems.
Fantastic experience: Today when we visited the gym with some students(We come from an SEN school for students with emotional and social care need), one of the students felt anxious due to being in a wheelchair and Nadir made her feel right at home, showed her all the machines and how to use them, she went through each one making sure she really understood. She was kind, caring, compassionate and she didn't push the student she was very patient and really made her feel like she could be there and workout without people judging her.
Positive experience: Soft play with grandaughter. With I was a bit bigger.
Negative experience: What on earth is going in with the heating in this place? The pool today was cold. I did over 50 lengths and still felt the cold. The changing rooms were cold no heating. Felt very cold especially coming out of the pool and having a shower. I pay my full membership for a pleasurable experience. This is definitely not that. I feel cheated robbed. Please do something about it otherwise I will take my membership elsewhere even though it may cost more and be further away. I want to enjoy what I am paying I to each month. Please update me. 12/3/23 Really not acceptable
Negative experience: Can someone please clean this place, under the cushions, around and above everywhere is full of dust. There’s dust for ages ago and no one comes to clean and wipe those things. Dozens of kids are coming every single day and no one does anything. It’s absolutely insane! You put hand gel for hands but doesn’t clean your own place to live or to work. I am not surprise because I know this is this culture really, but, honestly, every single time I brought my son to play there, the day after he was ill. No Windows, no fresh air, no cleaning, no customer.
Fantastic experience: Although the membership is on more of the expensive side it is well worth it considering you get a variety of classes included as well as the gym and access to the pool.
Positive experience: I went to look round this centre when I was trying to choose a gym. The staff member who showed me around was quite rude. To the point that he rolled his eyes at me. I joined another gym. Not a great first impression sadly. Facilities looked a bit tired but plenty on offer.
Positive experience: Attended our nieces 2nd birthday here had the soft play and it was good to see the kids having the best of times. Only thing that let it down was cleansing of the place
Positive experience: Clean and wide selection of gym equipment to use. Staff appear friendly.
Positive experience: Good staff good facilities. Alot of youngsters. I go early before midday thought they would be a college or working But it's fine they make me feel old
Positive experience: Family birthday event Soft play was great but I think that they could pop tables inside the soft play area instead of having to eat in a squash court that wasn't that clean.
Negative experience: It has been a while since I have been to Redhill and after a long day I thought it would be nice to have a sauna and steam but on arriving I find out it has been closed permanently which is a shame as people are now having to join other local establishments to enjoy these facility's and I will do the same I feel the staff are doing a great job with no real manager to call their own
Positive experience: Soft play is great for children who are 2+ there isn’t much for babies there
Positive experience: It would be even better if there were tai chi classes
Fantastic experience: Yes this place is quite dated but the staff are always really helpful and the facilities are well maintained despite the age.
Positive experience: Lovely pools, tasty clean cafe definitely worth a visit.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic modern centre offering a wide range of facilities. The gym is a good size with a good selection of equipment and spaces for both cardio and weight training. There are several studios for exercise classes as well as the pool and courts so, whatever your preference, there is something for everyone.Staff are friendly and aim to help with any enquiries. I just wish I was free early enough to avoid the copious swimming lessons every weekday!
Negative experience: I am a member at this gym. Good gym and machines well maintained, Staff are nice but the whole place could do will a serious refurb. In most areas there's no natural light. Showers and changing room facilities in lower ground are at best very poor. I wouldn't have joined this gym if I had checked the changing room, shower facilities.
Fantastic experience: I visit the soft play at Donyngs regularly with my 2 little ones. It is considerably cheaper than other local soft plays and is absolutely fantastic! The equipment is in excellent condition and there is lots for the kids to play on and with. I would recommend a visit.
Positive experience: Good size good equipment I've been to loads of better branches and this is one of the best
Fantastic experience: Adventureland is great for my 18 month old granddaughter. And it only costs £2 for an hour and never busy when we've been.
Positive experience: Soft play was ok but unsupervised which allowed the bigger kid's to run unchallenged, sometimes knocking over the toddlers.
Negative experience: Took the kids for a swim and to teach the youngest to swim. I know it’s a basic leisure centre but the kids pool was freezing, none of the showers really worked because the shower heads are so full of limescale, the changing rooms are disgusting, flooded for so long there is algae growing on the floor and walls and very unclean. Time this place was overhauled. Next time I wanna teach the baby to swim I’ll drive further and go to horley.
Negative experience: Old , run down , dirty , small. Needs knocking down and rebuilding. 1st and last time I visit for a swim.
Positive experience: it was great but could be better to be honest. My boyfriend isn't the best of swimmers and he almost drowned and the life guards didn't help him so I had to which doesn't look too good for them. After that one of the lifeguards came over and said to "be careful" and I told them that I can look after him and than they had the nerve to say 'well we are here too' even though in a time of crisis they didn't do anything.
Negative experience: Absolutely Appaling! Please note that this review applies to the swimming pool as I do not use the other facilities at Donyngs. Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since I first visited in 2016. Especially, the showers barely get themselves wet and you see people sticking to the walls like bottom feeder fish to take a shower. After a few times of failing to wash the chlorine off and having to go home afterwards for a shower, I reported the issue to the management of the centre. Few more reports and I was informed that "they" have decided not to invest in this site anymore and perhaps demolish it. It is really sad to see this happening. However, if you care about hygiene or your dignity, you would be doing yourself a favour by avoiding the swimming pool here.
Fantastic experience: I love this place.....mostly weekends will spend in donyngs with kids
Positive experience: Nice pool, not too busy.
Fantastic experience: Nice café, good soft play.
Negative experience: Very rude staff they I had to cancel my membership also the water is cold definitely not worth the money.
Fantastic experience: Great place ! Good swimming pool too !
Negative experience: Swimming is meant to be fun. Pool is overly cold Staff overly restrictive Makes it not much fun
Positive experience: The swimming lessons are excellent. I wish the cafe would stay open a bit later. The staff are always very polite.
Positive experience: Good, well organised and lots of parking.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for badminton and has a fine café.
Fantastic experience: Great recreation center with so many trainer machines in a large room. (Photos not about those.) The temperature of swimming pool is perfect now, but there is a limit of swimmers-number. I am glad to reopened, also for non-vaccinated people. Your car can stay for 4 hours. Ticket for non-members is £5 and any machine can be used, or membership is £40 per 30 days. Include the swim just need a book because of limit. Thanks!
Positive experience: Ok, reasonably clean but very dark pool with no natural light and couldn't just turn up and pay on the door
Negative experience: Good sports centre but I had to post a review because of the worst customer service. On hold for over 20mins with apparently 1 person in the line in front of me... It would have been quicker for me to drive there and ask my question....
Fantastic experience: Very aware of keeping everything sanitised. Quite busy but so many pieces of equipment so didn't have to wait to use anything.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Not that busy and all the equipment the majority of ppl need.
Negative experience: Went to soft play with our two year-old. The area itself isn’t managed by any staff, which may have prevented a particular group of children (who were blatantly older than the age restriction) from running riot and literally trampling over my child. Also noticed uncovered plug sockets that are easily accessible to the children using the area. Good quality equipment but disappointing experience. Also general building is looking pretty dilapidated these days.
Positive experience: Nice gym, Nice people, plenty on offer. Needs a little TLC in places
Positive experience: Only ever used the squash courts as not many places to pay and play !! In reasonable condition, fair price, 45 minute sessions, collect token from reception for the lights for the court. Dryside changing rooms were clean and tidy.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centres with lots to do. RDSA squash club, badminton, Yankee tennis, basketball, gymnastics, swimming pool, massive gym and loads of classes to keep you busy. Highly recommend.
Positive experience: Very nice location, plenty of free parking.. lots of badminton courts..
Negative experience: Very limited selection of classes in the evenings and weekends. Classes are so cramped since lockdown eased and I've had 3 colds after visiting - I'm still not going out much and wearing masks when I do - sad to say it was so much better when the restrictions limited class sizes. Something wrong with the sound system in the studios - instructors (all very nice) can't seem to set the volume below a ridiculously high level - mentioned this and reception confirmed it was a known issue but got blown off by the manager.
Fantastic experience: Was quiet when I went which is always good. No machine hoggers
Fantastic experience: Very friendly very helpful. Got everything you need to work out.
Positive experience: A variety of activities, amenities at this center. Services are just short of excellent but better than standard. Enough parking, good cleanliness and supportive staff.
Positive experience: There are some times I've been and the staff at the front desk are very welcoming and times where certain members of staff would acknowledge the person in front of me and then completely disregard me smiling and saying hello. Very strange. Facilities are good and quite clean
Positive experience: Tried calling by telephone but cannot reach anyone. Sent an email and no response yet after 3 weeks. No idea if the health suite is open. However, it's a great place for badminton and has a big gym, plus you can pay as you go. Showers near the badminton courts are freezing cold.
Positive experience: Alright overall leisure centre. Pool and changing rooms and showers could do with some renovation on the men's side. Equipment in gym is decent but often there is far too little space in free weights area (3 benches max, mostly occupied by people who are on their phones). During the pandemic simple rules are not being followed such as cleaning equipment after use. Staff do not address people who do not keep to these basic rules. Gym bags in gym causing tripping hazards don't help either for the overal impression. Sad to see what straight after 19 July 2021 markings on the floor were removed rather than kept to maintain social distancing. Cardio area is extensive with plenty of space.
Positive experience: A one stop for any sporting and physical activity. I have been a regular visitor since 2015 and have loved the place ever since..spacious, clean and such friendly front desk...
Positive experience: Fairly dated and tired looking, but has a broad range of equipment and activities on the go. Friendly staff. Easy, convenient parking
Fantastic experience: A lovely place, amazing staff, amazing facilities and was always happy to give me a hand if I was having troubles! Can’t wait to go gym here!
Positive experience: Not possible to ever speak to anyone on the phone. Card form does not work for booking swimming. However, staff and facilities are good.
Negative experience: Really disappointing visit. Part of pool was closed, and it was far too full. I got out, very frustrated, after one length. The staff refused a refund saying it wasn't full. They clearly hadn't looked. Ridiculous. Definitely won't be going again.
Fantastic experience: Super gym facilities, lots of room and everything you need. If only the other Better centres had such a range!
Positive experience: Lovely staff but the pool was cool. Had to get out after 30mins.
Positive experience: Great gym equipment and experience, nice swimming pool easy to use facilities and a nice experience in general
Positive experience: Swimming lessons are great for kids here! Can spectate too. Only showers are freezing in communal changing room!
Fantastic experience: Adventure land is a good soft play that never gets to crowded. All is great condition.
Fantastic experience: Great both classes run by Darren. Easy booking system and free parking
Positive experience: Clean and friendly parking can be a bit of an issue when busy.
