Cambourne Fitness and Sports Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Gym had a “refurb”, I use that term loosely. New flooring and a shocking new layout. Bunch of second hand equipment that is constantly broken. Cable attachments all battered and not considered for replacing. You give feedback and the manager just says thank you and never actions any improvements. There is less space for weight training with too many benches and no where to put them. Shocking value for money they’ve hiked up the prices over £10 per month in the past 2 years with nothing to show for it. Side note the gym is always dirty
Positive experience: The gym has been refurbished but with second hand equipment. Poor choice of equipment to use as it’s a small space so not much variety. Cardio equipment is all facing a wall with no mirrors. Mats for people to pose at themselves in the mirror overlook the carpak with tiny mirrors. Low budget gym but still, not great value for money. I’d recommend driving out of Cambourne to a better gym.
Positive experience: Equipment is always faulty, cables always broken, not enough racks. Staff are nice but gym always feels not up to date even after the “renovation”. They also now removed some free weights.
Fantastic experience: Gym and reception 5* The best place in Cambourne
Fantastic experience: I've only been to the skatepark. The skatepark is good quality. I don't feel like I'm going to die
Fantastic experience: Very convenient with lots variety of great activities. Lovely hardworking staff who always try to go the extra mile.
Positive experience: Convenient waiting area while watching grandchildren having tennis lessons. Good free parking too.
Positive experience: Fabulous air conditioned cabin for parents / grandparents of children on tennis/football courses. Tennis coaches were brilliant with the children with good coaching techniques.
Fantastic experience: For the future stars
Negative experience: Needs a bit of a refresh/update as machines are fairly old, certainly not state of the art as advertised. Could do with dropping prices to reflect this. Edit: a lot of the equipment is held together with black tape Edit: Nice to see the machines have been replaced and are more 'modern' but they are second hand from Lutterworth. New layout is better but there's a lack of weights area and everything is out of order all the time . Could do with sacking off some of the classes to make better use of other rooms. Edit: And now the prices have been increased. A joke considering it is a cramped, sub-par gym with no pool! - paying the same price as other everyone active's with pools etc is a joke. Cancelled membership.
Positive experience: Good staff but pretty average facility. Outdated machines in the gym, needs a bit of an upgrade or reduce membership price .
Negative experience: For any new year new me people I’d have a shop around. The gym was ‘done up’ but the lads in the gym agree it was actually better before. There’s less dumbells than before also. Extra benches but no where to use them. The gym isn’t clean and tidy at all! Machines are out of order more than not. Gym attachments are cheap to replace but they have old rusty and squeaky ones. Then showers are also grim The price only keeps rising and in January to £42.50 a month same price as the everyone actives that have pools
Positive experience: Ply football there, went inside for the first few weeks ago, nice asrtment if activities.
Fantastic experience: A great gym! The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the centre is always nice and clean.
Positive experience: We went to a skating party. It was great. Big area for eating food after too.
Positive experience: New and clean. But no swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: Loads of free weights, not too busy and clean. Great that toilets are kept for paying members only. Did circuits last week - killed me!
Negative experience: No public toilets available, you can access the bathrooms only if you have thé membership.
Positive experience: Good
Fantastic experience: App is great for booking badminton and classes. Great staff too. Feeling fitter. LOst 4 kg now!
Fantastic experience: V nice gym - great free weight selection. love it
Positive experience: Nice gym with friendly staff and plenty of parking however the equipment is quite dated and the gym is overall very small considering the price which is charged. Other Everyone Active Gyms have slightly more upgraded equipment and larger zones for weights however I felt this one isn’t quite worth the price.
Fantastic experience: Lovely badminton courts and easy parking
Positive experience: This gym needs investment, new machines and infrastructures..
Fantastic experience: Love this gym. Its expensive but worth it for the fact it's never as busy as the big chain gyms. As long as I'm in cambourne I'll be coming back. Phil is particularly outstanding at his job, very friendly too.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities for tennis and football!
Negative experience: £30 per month membership and they hardly have any equipments and they look like they been used for about 25 years. Absolutely rip off. Best go to PureGym, the gym or something in Cambridge.
Positive experience: Good astro Good parking Need to monitor toilets etc as day goes on
Positive experience: Clean facilities, friendly staff. Gym is always crowded in the evenings with little choice of equipment and free weights. Courts are always booked up first thing so again can be difficult at times to access what you want.
Positive experience: Parking is very limited during busy periods and weekends.
Negative experience: Quite small gym with no much choice for equipment. Very pricey for what they offer. It would be good to have more equipment/space and longer opening times.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility with everything clean and in good condition.
Fantastic experience: Lovely stuff. Not my words…
Positive experience: Grand daughter's birthday bash held here, my first visit. A misunderstanding over the booking meant that we had to help with deploying the bouncy castle and other play equipment, but apart from that, the area was very clean and the staff were very helpful, a good time was had by all. It was very noisy, to be expected with 25 four year olds.
Negative experience: Edit since refurb: Took a rack away that can be used for squats, bench, and more. Replaced with a static bench. So you can do… less? Only one person can squat properly in this gym at a time lol. Here’s another issue: you can’t store plates on the fixed bench, so now the plates are even more cramped around the two remaining racks and weight tree, making people walk across each other for weight even more!! New equipment is unstable - the leg raise and curls wobble when you start moving decent weight. Plates and dumbbells have stayed the same. Why do you have an even set (10s, 12s, 14s etc.) and a set that increments in 2.5kgs? Get two identical sets! The person who can curl 16kg and can’t curl 17.5kg is not helped by this arrangement. Get rid of one set and get a set that matches the other. You used to have two sets of 1-10Kg dumbbells, useful for lateral raises and women curling lighter amounts. Now you have one. Why? The mismatched plates in this gym are a joke. You opened again today and now have some random hammer strength 20s to add to the mix of already about 3 other random brands of plates, all different in diameter. This makes setting up a bar which doesn’t roll away for deadlifts, hip thrusts, etc. all the time really annoying because finding a pair to my eclectic collection of 20s either side of my bar is a total pain! And being real, different manufacturers have different tolerances, so the 20s aren’t exactly identical in weight. This makes lifting really annoying. Swap for proper, uniform in brand plates, and introduce bumper plates to the squat and deadlift. You have so much cardio equipment! I’ve never seen it all occupied at the same time, no one queues for these. I see plenty of people wait for racks, benches, and some of the higher weight dumbbells - why are you not duplicating this equipment instead of the equipment that barely anyone uses? I get it’s to attract the Resolutioners who barely come and create a lot of the margin, but come onnnnn. You removed the long mirror. Now your cardio equipment faces a plain red wall. You opened today but none of the data cables are plugged in, so none of the screens work. You have people running on treadmills and cycling literally looking at a plain wall for entertainment. The layout is cramped. All the resistance equipment faces the same way. If I was a woman I’d be very self conscious about who was looking at me on the two other rows of cramped equipment behind me. Without easy to use mirrors I can’t even check easily… Leaving broken equipment in the gym with red and white tape on it is unsightly and unprofessional, put it in to storage, you’ve already wheeled it close to the door so go that one step further. I’ll be cancelling my subscription now. Other notes: Good job putting better floor mats in, my bar not rolling away is a nice change. Also good work providing now 4 proper Olympic bars, so people can deadlift and hip thrust while the other two are in use at the bench and rack - small progress! I’d recommend you get proper bumper plates. Get rid of the static bench and have an adaptable rack - NOT a fixed squat rack cos no one can bench on those. An adaptable one, like the one you got rid of. Have 2 of those and a smith machine. Get rid of your trash Precor equipment and secure the unstable Technogym bits. Gym is now worse and really it’s overpriced for what it is. It’s £41.90 a month if you’re wondering! Equipment goes out of order and takes over a month to fix, dumbbells missing (where are the 9kg ones? Asked the staff, they didn’t know, and haven’t remedied). Previous the lat pull down / low row cables were out of order, this week it’s the leg extensions. To the staff who read this: you’re all great. Every one of you does a great job, keeps the place clean, and clearly cares. You’ve just been hampered by an APPALLING set of equipment and decisions by your regional management team.
Fantastic experience: Visited for a roller skating party. Well organised by staff and good facilities.
Positive experience: Meh. T'is fine innit...
Fantastic experience: Great spacious gym with good equipment. Friendly helpful staff. Great covid arrangements for booking and cleanliness
Positive experience: Ok. Old equipment, a bit packed in for cardio and weights. Overall clean and they are working with what they've got. No real complaints.
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking attitudes, despite travelling over an hour to attend a football match, leisure centre refused to allow any of the woman and children to use the toilet facilities. Very community based centre, not a member? Not interested!
Positive experience: No swimming pool... recently replaced machines in the gym, not new ones though...low staffing levels, so don't have an accident.... you need their app to access everything.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful sports centre for a village like Cambourne!!
Positive experience: Have used only badminton courts. Veru easy to book the court using the app and plenty of parking space available. 1 star less because there is no swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc.
Fantastic experience: Clean and great control on the distance
Fantastic experience: Only went to play foot ball but of what I saw it's a great place
Negative experience: Had the toilets closed, would allow people in to spend money on the vending machines, but because there were no card machines in the toilets they were out of bounds.
Negative experience: Prices should be lower considering what they offer, but unfortunately no competition nearby. Gym is actually small only one machine of each kind/muscle group and it can very crowded most of days. All you need is just one person in a machine and noone can do anything else about it. Personal trainers when working with someone occupy large space. I've seen a gym worker/trainer who was training/using machines. I understand they can use facilities but I do not think in hours where public is there.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic venue for kids parties. My niece has had three previous birthday parties here. The last one catered for 24 of her school friends & family. They had use of the main hall for the roller disco with lights and music for over an hour then they moved into the seating banquet table area located behind the main reception for their party food and cake. The gym studio room upstairs is slightly smaller but just as good for any event. It suited our other party when hiring the entertainment team in their fancy dressed princess theme. Great staff and well organised for all small events. Great parking and disabled facilities for all ages.
Negative experience: The music is too loud. I can't hear my music in my earphones !
Negative experience: Awful music and too loud Management don’t care about members Equipment old
Fantastic experience: Everything there great football pitches and facilities
Positive experience: Its Actually good.
Fantastic experience: Fun activities for the children at the weekends. Do you like trains then track play is hosted here every other month.
Positive experience: Shame the futsal goals are the wrong size. Excellent outside pitches. Big car park
Positive experience: Friendly staff and most equipment in good condition. Decent price. Still needs a swimming pool !
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to be! Every aspect of it has been thoroughly cleaned, the place is amazing. Not too many people at the gym and totally worth the membership cost. The Sports Hall is also kept in great condition, and is a great hall to play Badminton, Tennis, Ping-Pong even for in-door football. As of now, for under 16 yr olds they only allow up to 45 minutes in the gym area, I would like it raised to at least 1 hour. But the other thing really is that they only have 1 Studio area to do all the classes e.g Pilates. But these is partly because I'm being picky, because it isn't a big problem in any way. Thanks :-)
Positive experience: Gym has good machines, is clean, air conditioned, and not too busy on a weekday morning when I go. Classes in the fitness studio are good. However, I wish the instructors would arrive early so that the class caiactually start on time. Car park is free, a good size, and never full when I go.
Fantastic experience: Staff are always friendly and approachable.
Positive experience: Its getting me fit again after a triple bypass op. The instructors are so good.
Negative experience: No swimming pool...
Positive experience: Super friendly and helpful staff who show kindness to the chochild. I haven't personally used the gym or courts but brig my children to their classes. The way they teach is great and the kids thoroughly enjoy the sessions. The venue is clean and easily accessible.
Fantastic experience: Seems nice i just drop off for gymnastics
Fantastic experience: Nice gym
Positive experience: Spacious rooms for different activities and parties
Fantastic experience: Whole family enjoyed the roller scating Saturday at 3pm till 4.
Negative experience: It is very overpriced, Everyone Active Gyms in other locations offer more facilities such as swimming pool, climbing wall, better equipment and are much larger with group classes etc. Technically you are paying for a swimming pool, Spa etc which they don't have. The price for the one in Cambourne is not justifiable. Although the establishment states that the payment covers visiting other Everyone Active throughout the country. Individuals who live and work in the area don't tend to leave the area. The nearest Everyone Active Gym appears to be around 30 miles away. No competition means they have the monopoly in the area. Other Everyone Active gyms are offering options like the gym only option and the membership amount is around £28. Everyone Active in Cambourne should have this option as they don't have the facilities they make you pay for.
Fantastic experience: Good little gym
Fantastic experience: Very good children's timetable with activities for all ages.
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym and fitness studio. Friendly staff.
Positive experience: Equipment is reasonable although the free weights section is too small. Can get very busy on weekday evenings. Probably too expensive if you're only using the gym, better value if you go gym and go to classes.
Negative experience: Expensive and not enough facilities for weightlifting. Great for cardio however. And excellent customer service. Update after 5 years: the prices keep going up and up but they do nothing to improve the service or justify the price hikes. Still a tiny gym with way too many members relative to equipment or space. Literally good luck trying to get a workout in after 5pm from work because you will be battling against all the kids that come in groups of 5 and spend hours on a single machine and just socialising, not even working out. They pay half of what I pay as an adult so why do they get to use it more than me?? Kids shouldn’t be allowed in after 5!! The equipment there is of such poor quality, constantly broken cables that takes weeks to fix and dumbbells that are literally held up by tape which doesn’t seem safe. When you’re on the cables you can constantly feel The cable getting caught on something which can be very distracting when trying to focus on your mind Muscle connection. They also charge a fiver a month just to freeze your account which is absurd. So if you’re actually serious about working out go elsewhere and save your money. But if you go gym just go post your gym selfie on Instagram, go ahead! You’ll fit right in with the rest of noddies that “workout” there… I’ve been a member there for over 8 years now so I’ve seen the gym steadily decline and get worse and worse but because it’s the only local convenient gym in cambourne I’ve stayed all this time. And the gym owners know this and are banking on it which I don’t think is right, they’re taking advantage of the cambourne locals by providing such a poor service
Negative experience: Dropping a star from a previous review. They have just taken more fitness classes off the timetable. Starting to question the value when One Leisure has 3 centres nearby with far better gym facilities, bikes and classes. A nod to the class instructors though who have stuck it out. I feel for them as they are messed about but continue to provide a great experience in the few live classes left.
Fantastic experience: Excelent services
Fantastic experience: Went to our granddaughter's birthday party. Excellent organisation and a good time had by all.
Fantastic experience: Great place to host kids Birthday parties !!
Fantastic experience: EXCELLENT
Fantastic experience: Active Antz is excellent for preschoolers
Positive experience: I like spending some time there especially when it is not overcrowded.
Fantastic experience: Very nice and cosy with nice staff
Fantastic experience: Great clean place
Fantastic experience: Excellent Facilities
Negative experience: Loooooooooooooooooooœseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Fantastic experience: I go to this gym twice a week and I think it is really good and very clean.I recommend this gym if you live near Cambourne
Positive experience: A shame, there is no swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Great sports centre for all age ranges!
Fantastic experience: Cambourne Everyone Active is a sports centre that features tennis courts, a football pitch, bowls club, an indoor hall that hosts a variety of activities and a gym with a mix of cardio and weight machines. The facilities in the gym are somewhat limited and at peak times actually getting on to the equipment you want can be a struggle. The classes on offer are varied and for the most part led by very enthusiastic knowledgeable people. The staff are all friendly and always happy to offer advice or a general chat. Car parking is usually easily available except on Saturday mornings due to kids football.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: Great facility with a good choice of classes.
Positive experience: Good 3g football pistches
Positive experience: Good gym, however they really need to expand the number of exercise classes. Also has a large sports hall used for a range of activities
Positive experience: Did a great skating parking for us. Would recommend
Positive experience: Facilities pretty good. Classes on a Saturday including trampolining and karate. Coffee awful and parking can be a real problem if there is a football tournament on. Parking on the road possible but not ideal. Great waiting area if you're waiting for a class to start or finish.
Fantastic experience: Good place for arranging children's birthday parties.
Positive experience: Very good
Positive experience: Not too crowded. Pay as you go option is available
Positive experience: Great gym but is insanely busy at times
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and a lovely atmosphere
Negative experience: Poor service. The shuttles provided for the social badminton on Fridays were completely ripped. Requested them to be replaced, but was told that they would only be changed once every 3 months!!!! No refunds offered either. Totally disgraceful.
Negative experience: Beware…Read the small print carefully before signing up for membership…DO NOT trust the sales team… Unprofessional….Badly Run….Will never recommend…
Fantastic experience: Excellent place, lots of activities
