Spectrum’s place at the heart of the community dates back almost a century - the old Miners Welfare was originally built circa 1920 with the intention of providing recreational facilities for the Mining Community of Willington and the surrounding areas. The centre quickly became the vibrant hub of an active town where everyone was made to feel welcome.
Spectrum Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: The place hasn't been shown any tlc for a while!
Fantastic experience: Needs guest WiFi phone reception was bad.
Fantastic experience: First visit to the centre. Very friendly and warm welcome from the staff member - he was very helpful and gave lots of information about classes. Joined a class and was impressed at the organisation and facilities. Felt very welcome , everyone friendly. Prices of classes were very affordable; will definitely return. Plenty of information also on the Facebook page which is regularly updated.
Fantastic experience: Great staff ..very knowledgable.. Brilliant classes...
Fantastic experience: We do netball here, the turnaround from other sports is good, hall is as expected for a sports hall
Positive experience: Was only there on referral to weightwatchers by NHS
Fantastic experience: Lots of weights to vary your bodies needs in both rooms available. Cardio machines from bikes, cross trainers, treadmills and step climbers. There are classes available but you have to ring to what's available on the day. Personal trainers help you with your work out if needed. So I would recommend giving it ago.
Fantastic experience: Good parking and friendly staff.
Negative experience: Family swimming was horribly busy. It was impossible to keep a apart from others. Being in the wave machine pool felt like a human soup. Totally inappropriate considering Covid cases are currently high. There were not enough family changing rooms and the floor was grubby. It was pretty cold too. I could go on, but I'm boring myself.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, very friendly staff would recommend
Fantastic experience: Clean, Very well run and polite
Fantastic experience: Great place for my roller derby practice
Fantastic experience: What a great job the team at Spectrum has done to reopen after COVID. The layout is sensible but enables all to train fully. Well done to you all and thank you.
Fantastic experience: Friendly clean, everything you need
Fantastic experience: I enjoy going there to play roller hockey the coaches are great and the staff are always willing to help us great place my favourite place by far
Positive experience: Good place to train ...shame about some of the staffs beards
Fantastic experience: Very busy place with lots of people keeping fit in various ways.
Positive experience: Reminds me of Holme house prison training in a dungeon
Fantastic experience: Very friendly, nice atmosphere, plenty of machines and variety of classes
Negative experience: Childrens rollerskate party (7 year olds) and NO SAFETY EQUIPMENT AT ALL. Their excuse - they get you to sign a disclaimer. Avoid at all costs.
Fantastic experience: Excellent mix of quality gym apparatus with separate rooms accommodating all choice and needs. Has showers and canteen. Importantly also has friendly professional staff. Thank you for a great service. Marie
Fantastic experience: I enjoy going to the spectrum to watch my two grandsons play hockey the people there are very nice get you out into company
Fantastic experience: It's a nice layout and I went to watch last man standing and it was amazing
Positive experience: Nice place good food
Fantastic experience: Great, busy and friendly place with lots going on.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic classes , brand new top of the range gym , and the people who work there are super friendly xx
Negative experience: I've gave 3 years membership to this charity, and loved the place, the gym, and the people, But had to move out of area which I had to contact the direct debit company to cancel contract [harlands] which i did!! Wasn't the best experience I had, they were agressive and bulling as you have to be so many miles away the argument was over 0.3 of a mile!! Which they said I have to pay so I had no choice but to cancel dd. More problems when I move back 6 months later, I call on a evening to discuss I wanted to come back to gym and as it states cash options on the website per month, per session, per year etc etc. I spoke to one of the lads which I will not mention names but he is an asset to the spectrum and always has been, they are lucky to have a worker like him. Next day told no I cant pay cash and had to call harlands so I emailed in only to have a call back from owner of charity been quite rude threats of court, he helped me in passed but states rules are rules which i do understand but 0.3 of a mile... I've offered money with no direct debit as harlands take a % of your money which i no longer want to do because of the way they treat you. Refused! I'm so disappointed and upset that I'll ever be able to return to gym and see all the staff and frendily faces I've come to know over the years purely down to greed why use such a bulling company like harlands who do not care about the members or the leisure centre only on profit. As it states cash options but to be told no I feel victimised against because of something in the passed which is to do with a outside money generating company [harlands]. Update CRS have been harassing me sending big threats. Mr castle from CRS been sending me very personal emails which I wouldn't expect from a professional company. I also realised the distance was more miles so I proved I moved out of area with lots of proofs 10 in total, which I then got a email stating would except this but I still owe 303 pounds? Because I didn't tell them in time, and gym had to keep doors open and maintain the building because of me! Really they are now taking me to county court and getting a ccj against me. I'm just waiting for my day in court in to why they think I owe money when I've proved I moved away.
Positive experience: This is open and its an OK place. Call them as their web site does not appear to be up and running. Gym and classes are fine. maybe check their facebook page
