Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Food was wholesome and tasty - we had the roast dinner which was ace. Breakfast was also substantial. Our room was a family one just for the 2 of us and it had a decent tv, hot shower and a view of the golf course. Good value for money and I assume excellent if you play golf!!
Positive experience: Was here for my best friends wedding. Beautiful venue. Only thing is the range of alcoholic drinks weren't very good.
Fantastic experience: 1st visit. Rooms was excellent. Clean & comfortable. Food fantastic. Friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended
Positive experience: The room was large with all the necessary facilities. The TV was small for the room size, and I struggled to see the screen from the bed! The room was clean and well maintained. Bit of a problem with the radiator, which seemed blocked. Luckily, it was a mild week. A receptionist and later the general manager made personal efforts to rectify the problem. We couldn't fault the staff who seemed genuine in their affects to make sure we enjoyed our stay. From Room Service team to Reception to restaurant team, all seemed happy in their work. It was nice to be greeted with a genuine smile
Fantastic experience: Just go there for day pass for swimming pool, sauna etc ,all lovely and clean, swimming pool perfect temperature and not very deep, deep enough for the fitness swimmers but not too deep for the nervous paddlers
Positive experience: Experience ruined by inconsiderate drunks keeping me awake as I speak at 330 in the morning. Lovely staff and hotel . My next day of golf won't be good as I will be tired .
Positive experience: Rooms need updating carpet was covered in stains tv was tiny looked like a pc monitor. Decided to go bar which has a snooker room but the lights turned off and pitch black you have to pay to switch lights on but only lasts 20 minutes after 2 games got fed up. Paid for the full English breakfast about £12 was awful 2 bacon one sausage and egg with tomato and mushrooms instead find a local cafe probably taste better. Good luck getting phone signal had to use there WiFi which kept loosing connection every 2 minutes.
Fantastic experience: Great value for money, food, and service is always good. I highly recommend this place, also food from the bar with Sky Sports adult pool room and outside eating with fantastic views
Fantastic experience: I recently attended a golf tournament here and found it to be a lovely venue. While traffic on the way in can sometimes make it a bit difficult to reach, the overall experience is well worth it. The course itself is beautifully maintained, with the grounds staff doing an excellent job keeping everything in top condition. The facilities are clean, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Whether you're here for a tournament or just a round of golf, it's definitely a place worth visiting for any golf enthusiast.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic value for money great stay superb golf staff were good, only down side snooker room needs work leak coming through ceiling buts falling off wall and it's mega hot needs some air con but aside from that couldn't fault it
Fantastic experience: Did go to this place to join in a wedding reception and the place was amazing
Fantastic experience: 2nd visit with St Stephens golf society. 2 great courses, friendly staff. Highly recommended
Positive experience: Just stayed 4 nights at this hotel. I/ Room service was missed on one day, no milk, tea, coffee and waste paper basket not emptied, bed not made. 2/ Bathroom had no towel rails, no toilet roll holder and no lihgt above the mirror. 3/ Restaurant service on all nights very slow and no attention shown to delivering or clearing tables. Spoke to supervisor who made excuses. 3/ Two early morning calls not delivered, "sorry I forgot ". Golfers staying here were obviously given priority over a small coach party.
Fantastic experience: Played golf on the “ Championship Course” and the course was excellent. Perfect venue for golf trip as there are 2 courses with modern hotel offering great facilities & excellent service. Beautiful location in Norfolk, you will enjoy everything as it’s perfect……
Negative experience: I had my wedding here in June and it still plays on my mind of some of our let downs. We stayed the night before the wedding and my room to get ready in was tiny and old. I got told after the wedding this was an updated room (yikes). We were offered a refund for our room but we've not had the heart to go back to the hotel for it. As well as the room, lack of wedding host, rude reception, lack of communication... the latest thing I have heard from a guest is that they did not respect the food allergy request I had given them. Coeliac! Not just gluten free. COELIAC. This is a serious allergy and I was very clear and checked multiple times with them. I had a bbq buffet reception. I heard later on from the guest when I saw her that all they had done was say "gluten free rolls are next to the normal ones" in a different basket. Ultimately they had it all on one long table. Huge risk of cross contamination. When my guest informed the staff she couldn't eat anything from the table they brough her out a plate with a roll, tiny salad and a couple of pieces of dried meat. She was not comfortable to eat this. I feel so bad, I really wanted everyone to be catered for and have a good time. I think they are too routine with wedding now and don't appreciate anymore how important and special it should be. Other than that, the bar staff were nice.
Positive experience: Popular place for golfers and people wanting to visit Norwich. The WiFi was poor, which is a big issue for me. The food and wine were OK. It's just not special enough for me for a weekend away.
Fantastic experience: Course is looking good and playing well. If only I was doing either!
Negative experience: Stayed for 1 night. Food in the restaurant was nice and staff were reasonably accommodating, the main thing that lets this place down massively is the rooms, very outdated, paper thin walls and very warm with no air con. Only option was a fan that sounded like it was going to take off All in all staff were good but I will not stay here again purely based on the state of the rooms
Negative experience: This venue has to be the worst venue I have ever been too. Doing a disco for a personal friends wedding we was told over 8 months prior to the wedding we could use lasers and a haze machine. Two weeks before the wedding I called this venue to be told we could not use a haze machine, due to the venue upgrading their fire alarm systems. This in turn had a devastating effect on the lighting that was being used and some special digital photography for wedding photos. Needless to say the couple considered was very disappointed and being on their special day. I would like to say thank you to the venues event team for not informing me of any change to the planning of this wedding and that an email to your clients can be very useful to stop disappointment and allow other arrangements being made. Other than the above the venue is over priced, no air conditioning, toilets blocked, unhelpful attitude from staff. Such a shame. Out of respect for the couple concerned I have refunded the cost of the lasers and I will be looking to be compensated by this venue for the lack of professional event planning being sending one email that may have made a big difference.
Fantastic experience: Only been on the golf courses and club house, courses are challenging but rewarding.
Fantastic experience: This is a Hotel golf complex. My husband has stayed there for a golf weekend and enjoyed it. It also has a swimming pool with a sauna. This time just he and I stayed for one night, bed and breakfast. Very comfortable room, nice breakfast. The photo was the view from our room.
Fantastic experience: Rooms very basic but comfortable food was second to none.
Positive experience: We came to the hotel for a one night stay and a wedding. The room was great, so often family rooms are a double bed and a double sofa bed, which doesn't suit my teenage girls, but this had a double bed and two full size single beds, lots of space. The bathroom was well designed, modern and a great shower. Breakfast was fine, missing the traditional fried bread and black pudding, having said that I didn't miss it, but other people in our party did. The wedding itself was in a fantastic room, views to die for, and the food and service was fantastic. The canapés and evening buffet items were delicious! All in all, a very special weekend, you could see how hard the staff worked and as a great team, food was delicious and the atmosphere was exactly as we wanted.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant as all ways course in excellent conditio . food and service fantastic. We will be back again next year.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place for wedding very well run and rooms were very clean and comfortable
Negative experience: We had ants in our room. Literal ants. All in the bathroom.. We got back to the room late decided not to complain. Then during the night I woke to find one opposite me on the bedroom wall so I couldn’t sleep for itching. Then in the morning went for a shower and they were gathering in there.. some on the towels. We complained on check out where the receptionist apologised but offered no kind of compensation considering we couldn’t use all the amenities. So I emailed, included videos of piles of ants. And they’ve just completely ignored me, ha! So have a review. Photos aren’t as good as the videos as being so small hard to see stationary.
Fantastic experience: Had a great all inclusive few days here, courses in excellent condition, rooms need a little updating especially the mattress (too hard)... food was very good, good size portions.. Drinks were reasonably priced, must mention the staff they were very friendly and helpful.. keep up the excellent work guys.. I would highly recommend it.... it's that good we've already booked it up for next year.
Fantastic experience: Use the Health Club Swimming pool with the family. The changing rooms are a bit tired and out dated but they were clean. The swimming pool was a bit cold at first for the kids, pool area was clean and maintained. The jacuzzi, steam room were lovely.
Negative experience: I was a golf member for 6 years.I was insulted twice by the pro shop staff.I gave my notice in nearly two weeks ago.I started at Barnham Broom. The country club after 12 months never informed me if I wanted to carry on with a direct debit.I told them 10 days before I was leaving. They won't be giving my monthly £62 pound subscription back, even though I have not played this month, because I playing at a new club.Barnham broom have welcomed me with open arms.Wensum Valley are money grabbing sods.I will be taking them to the small claims court. And will win my case.Other businesses always ask for permission to renew a contract.
Dear Mr Hart Following our telephone conversation yesterday I would like to confirm that you changed your membership from annual to monthly in 2023, our terms state 30 days written notice is required to cancel a monthly membership. You emailed to cancel on 27th March, your membership payment was taken on 1st April so you are able to play until end of April 2024. A monthly membership is continuous until notice is given. I am sorry you felt you needed to leave this review and will of course give evidence to small claims court if required. Based on your attitude and the fact you refuse to adhere to dress code still wearing camo trousers, I have now ended your membership.
Positive experience: For a golf course that cost £40 a go you would think that in the bar they could afford to put a tip on the end of the cue for the pool table Apparently they only have one stick for the pool table and its missing the tip . I suppose there is not enough money made in the golf shop and the holes to cover a 35p pool tip . Apparently the staff said its been like this for weeks .
Fantastic experience: We got married here! Would just like to say thank you to the lovely Emma who helped us plan along the way and on the day we’d love to thank Jo and Adam without them I don’t think the day would’ve gone as well as it did, all our guest kept saying how amazing and lovely all the staff were. We had the lovely DJ Chris who was lovey lovely lovely he played our playlist perfectly. The honeymoon suite was gorgeous but I found it really cold it was too late for me to ask for help with the heating or an extra blanket in hindsight I would’ve just asked for help. It’s a truly beautiful location if you want to get married here or even just a weekend away it is a lovely place Thank you for everything guys all the staff here are outstanding x
Positive experience: My best description of the hotel is "beige". Albeit clean and tidy this hotel has no warmth. The corridors and room lacked any kind of style. The bland empty corridors were not welcoming. The room was clean and maintained but soulless. The staff were very good and the food also. Please update your rooms and corridors.
Positive experience: It was OK. I have stayed in better 3 star hotels, but then, you get what you pay for. Needs a bit of a tidy up and renewal. Breakfast was good. Lovely choices.
Positive experience: Did not stay at hotel had christmas meal very poor would have expected better at a hotel not very christmas feel at all very disappointed
Positive experience: Stayed for a Christmas party night with friends. Rooms were clean and bathroom looked as though it had recently been refurbished with a good powerful shower. Bed was comfortable and slept well although walls are very thin so could hear everything from the adjoining rooms. Leisure facilities are fab, was pretty quiet during the times we visited. Christmas party itself was ok, not a lot of food for the price we paid. 2 small trays of veg between 10 people and the baileys cheesecake had no sign of baileys anywhere. The night porter on the bar after the party had finished was so lovely, really good customer service. Unfortunately didn't catch his name. Breakfast the next morning was a bit of a shambles. Took over 30 mins from ordering to recieve the cooked breakfast which was luke warm at best. Had to ask for coffee as none was offered. 2 out of 4 breakfasts had a raw sausage. Brought it to the attention of one of the waiting staff, was given a half hearted apology and offered another but it had put us off our breakfast unfortunately. Also mentioned it to reception upon checkout. Would stay again but would probably avoid breakfast as didn't find it value for money with low quality ingredients.
Positive experience: First evening meal first class.second evening meal seemed like left overs from the night before.room good & clean, staff vert friendly & efficient
Positive experience: This Hotel is lovely, beautiful location and views of the valley, staff polite and friendly, food is good but a little expensive if not ordering from the bar menu, drinks also a bit expensive, rooms are spacious but can get a bit cold with being heated by radiators which come on at certain times, could also do with a bit of an update as looking a little tired although I do believe some rooms have been redone
Fantastic experience: Played golf on the wensum course, the other being the valley. Great set up and thoroughly rate it. Booked 18 holes via golf now app for £12. Unfortunately holes 12-16 were closed due to flooding but we played 123 17 and 18 again. Bargain place for the price.
Fantastic experience: Booked for a 2 night stay 3 days golf. 2 good golf courses. Food was really good and service good. Bar prices reasonable
Fantastic experience: Stayed here and played golf Very good value Food was amazing and plenty of it Rooms were dated but very clean Staff were polite and very helpful
Fantastic experience: Wedding guests and stayed over the weekend. Beautiful, quiet and secluded surroundings - reached via a single track road with passing places! Food was excellent and plentiful served by friendly, accomodating staff, who managed to hold back some delayed travellers meals- thank you all! It made it extra special for us! The buffet on the evening was plentiful and varied in choice, it was too good a quality - we struggled to stop eating! Excellent!! Nice guest Pool and steam rooms. Lovely comfortably seated patio area and event room. Beds were comfortable, with a lovely big walk in shower, no noise just the gentle patter of golfers carts in their morning....beautiful array of breakfast choice. Really great value- thank you Wensum Valley- the drinks wee reasonably priced too...thanks for helping make it a great wedding!
Fantastic experience: One of the best courses in norfolk and not pretentiously priced. Good condition throughout the year and a very good bar for the 19th.
Negative experience: Only thing nice about this place is the golf course. It needs an update and new management 1, like a football club very noisy and rowdy 2, room very small and warm 3, breakfast took ages, have to get up to request and order 4,bar area uneven floor where it’s raised Causing tripping hazard 5, toilets very dirty and out of order 6, short changed at the bar had to question it and no apology 7, pro shop very good 8, course good but limited buggies 9, limited bins around course and benches as quite a lot of hold ups. Would go back for the golf but not to stay
Positive experience: This place is nice but tired. It was good location for us as we had plans the next day. The bed was possibly the most uncomfortable bed I've slept in for a long time. Pros: reasonable value for money, the staff were helpful. The food was nice, we also had an evening meal which was tasty. Good selection for breakfast. Cons: dated, uncomfortable bed, got woken up at all hours by golf groups singing and listening to loud music. They only offers us 1 cup of tea or coffee for breakfast, I need at least 2!!!
Fantastic experience: First time staying for 1 night at this hotel. Beautiful location. Large car park shared with Golf Club. Nice comfortable reception area, bar and restaurant. We stayed in a basic double room (8) on the first floor. Although not recently decorated, it was clean and well equipped. On suite, TV, phone, desk, chair, tea & coffee making facilities. The bed was extremely comfortable and hotel noise was minimal which was surprising considering there was a wedding taking place that night. We had a good sleep. (Would have given 5 stars if a shower mat had been supplied) We had booked on a B&B basis and were shown to our table by a friendly waitress. I had a full english breakfast served by the waitress. My wife had the continental breakfast from the buffet bar. Both were excellent and good value for money. We would definitely stay here again.
Positive experience: This is a beautiful location and the hotel rooms are being updated. The old rooms are reminiscent of a different era. Unfortunately, the carpets are stained in the non-updated rooms, which does not give a good first impression. The quality furniture is marked with hot cups and no mats are provided. The toilets need a proper descale. You will find cobwebs and spiders in many of the corners, both in the rooms and around the hotel communal areas. The beds are comfortable and the manager is very helpful. I felt that the breakfast was not good value for money as there was no fresh fruit on the buffet, only tinned grapefruit (great if you like it) and only semi-skimmed milk. A choice would have been nice as our child will not drink semi-skimmed and left the cereal. Even the Premier Inn offers both types of milk, a buffet cooked breakfast for £9 unlimited and kids eat free! We were offered the possibility of full fat milk, which could have been ordered for the following day but that was not really helpful. We were offered some strawberries. The mushrooms were tinned, which is pure laziness! Scrambled eggs and bacon are fine. No black pudding, which is part of a full English breakfast and no fried bread! The price is the same for an adult as for a child. £21.50 in total for a continental for a 7 year old child and a cooked breakfast, which is not really “full” for 1 adult. The shower was very powerful but you will need to bring your own shampoo and shower gel as only some kind of dispensable, unknown soap is available. The steam room and sauna were working in the leisure facilities but the jacuzzi was not. Check out time could be a little later at 11am as opposed to 10.00am. I may visit again and try one of the updated rooms but I would skip the breakfast! I can’t comment on the golf course because I don’t play golf however, it was quite busy at the weekend. It’s a real shame because a couple of small touches and additions to this place would make such a difference!
Fantastic experience: We had our wedding this June and couldn’t have asked for a better day. Room was immaculate and well set up with all our table decor etc. food was lovely and very good service Emma and Vicky were amazing
Positive experience: Very disappointing meal. When we booked we said we had a dog but when we got there there was quite an embarrassing fuss because dogs are not allowed. The food was not great; cold and undercooked. The staff were very good as was the service. I would not go there again.
Positive experience: Great hotel and leisure centre and golf courses. Just set back of the main road. Swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, Food is good, two menus to choose from bar, and restaurant. Pro shop Driving range. Gym.
Positive experience: Room is lovely unfortunately I can hear every word that is being said in the next room between a number of people. In addition to television sounds from other rooms. Disappointed that walls are so thin. I won't be returning.
Negative experience: Sunday lunch was dreadful. Veg undercooked , food was cold. Chef was miserable.... shame on our doorstep . Wanted to support local but awful ... very poor
Negative experience: Food perfect rooms lovely. Friday night 3am still no sleep drunken people in yard outside the room. Saturday night 4am traveler wedding shouting and balling outside the room had to be up at 8am to drive back to Cornwall. The staff know what is going on and don't care. Just need someone to go outside and say enough it's late people trying to sleep. I wouldn't stay there again if it was free.
Negative experience: I attended a wedding here, never seen such disorganisation in my life. One member of staff on the bar, who kept disappearing for 10/15 mins at a time and left a 16 year old behind it most of the time who obviously couldn’t serve anyone alcohol. Walked past the kitchen and two of the young staff members were having a full on argument over something, I was served a pint in a dirty glass with lipstick all over it, we had dirty cutlery on a a lot of the tables with bits of food on, dirty coffee/ tea cups the food was late out and cold and bland as anything when it did arrive. The bread rolls for the starter were the cheapest thing they could find, not fresh they came from a freezer as ours were still partially frozen. The vegetables were well undercooked to the point where they felt like they’d just been dipped in warm water, staff were rude they just dropped the plates of the table any didn’t seem to know what they were doing. If I were the bride and groom I’d be seeking a partial refund for the poor service, poor food, dirty cutlery, glasses, and disorganisation. They didn’t even fill up the salt and pepper pots on the tables. If your looking for a memorable day, as and bride and groom would be, do not have your wedding here unless you want to remember it for all the wrong reasons.
Negative experience: No toilet roll holder, so paper behind on a shelf, hard to reach, need to half get up to reach. NO AIR CONDITION, didn't sleep the first night. Next day, back at 5pm, room not cleaned, HOUSE KEEPING GONE FOR THE DAY Jess eventually cleaned, replaced towels, bed half made. Put a fan in the room, half toppling, base almost undone. Complained several times, they're trying !!! Took away the mugs for tea, had to go and get glass mugs from the bar. In the morning realised, no spoons. Horrible 2 night experience. Am writing to Chris Craig and Booking Com
Fantastic experience: 3rd year of our golf weekends, we love it. Courses are challenging, especially the back 9 of the water holes on the 2nd course. The food is really nice, rooms nice and freshly decorated.
Fantastic experience: Recently hosted a golf day for 80 people and everything was exceptional. From the porter (Tim) to Emma and Jade in Events who made everything go swimmingly. We will be back and would give 6* if we could.
Positive experience: It is a no frills golf club and hotel with friendly staff who know their jobs. Rooms are clean but by no means large or luxurious. The leisure centre was clean and adequate but all in all you get what you pay for. As a small example, there wasn't a costume spinner nor soap in the showers but at the prices charged they are hardly deal breakers. Good value.
Fantastic experience: It was a lovely break . We arrived had a beautiful carvery . Used the swimming pool etc which was also very good . Breakfast was also lovely . Staff were very friendy and made us feel welcome. Not sure what happened to our online booking by email for carvery as not got in restaurant . Was told it would be better to phone and book . Sorry but not our problem maybe communication is needed with wensum . We got a table and the meal couldn't fault it . Would def come back .
Positive experience: Food perfect the onion rings are in a league of their own dinner staff friendly. Breakfast staff moody rooms a bit dated
Positive experience: Lovely location, a very nice restaurant area with lovely views over the golf course, the food was absolutely delicious, but the service was absolutely terrible, orders came out wrong, waited ages between courses, then when paying the bill it took ages, as the till wouldn't open. I would come again for the food and hope the service has improved.
Fantastic experience: I don't need to say much. This place is awesome. Service, staff, environment, food - all great. Myself, my partner and child loved staying here.
Positive experience: Went to an event. Valley suite. Great venue for the function. Food was good, service was good. Breakfast disappointing.
Positive experience: Only played golf so unable to comment on much. Nice course, choice of two with th Wensum the more difficult. Bar area was clean and tidy and the food looked good. Will try a meal there sometime.
Positive experience: The rooms were small but comfortable and had been recently refurbished. Lack of toilet roll holder, probably to be added later. Shower only, which was ok for me. Would have given 4.5. Staff were all very pleasant. Fault with toilet fixed while we were at dinner. Very efficient. Food excellent. Bar reasonably priced.
Positive experience: Visited with our golf society. We all said we would return to this venue again. We found the staff very approachable and helpful. The food was excellent. Accommodation was clean and fresh. Given the area is limited in phone signal the WiFi was atrocious, it kept dropping out. The courses are very challenging with the Wensum being slightly easier. This place is well a visit or two .
Positive experience: Clean functional room but very dated decor. Breakfast on a Sunday finishes at 09:30! Pity you’re not advised of this when checking in.
Fantastic experience: I visited here this evening, with my family, to attend a party. My son, who is 3, unfortunately has an allergy to milk. A lovely member of staff, called Vicky, went above and behind to make sure my son was able to eat safely. She checked every piece of food and made sure he wasn't left out when he was unable to eat any of the cake. A massive THANK YOU to Vicky. Absolutely amazing service and I can not thank you enough. ❤️
Fantastic experience: Nice place for a weekend of golf, staff were great and helped with any needs all the time, rooms are slightly dated but clean and presentable (some are getting updated so that's always a good sign). And the course, all bar one hole were in good condition (that one is getting maintenance). Would go back again
Positive experience: Stopped over for a night whilst travelling. Staff were brilliant - most helpful and welcoming. The room was clean, quite basic but had everything you need. My only comment was it looks a little out dated, could probably do with being brought up to speed a little…
Fantastic experience: Booked for our in laws to stay when visiting. Very nice room and they were very happily with the whole experience.
Fantastic experience: My husband and I got married here at the weekend, the staff could not have been more kind or helpful. The honeymoon suit was huge and very clean. The food was exceptional and all my guests said nothing but positivity about the venue and food. We are a little bias as it was the best day or our lives but couldn’t have been had it not been for the staff. I want to particularly mention Jade and Vikki who really went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. Thank you all!
Negative experience: Rooms and hotel are very dated. Driving ranch isn’t open in the evenings as lights aren’t working, so couldn’t use it. Pool not usable for teenagers under the age of 16 to go swimming on their own, couldn’t use this either. Renovation works going on as well. Not a pleasant experience.
Positive experience: Had a Sunday Carvery for the first time here at the weekend. Best carvery we have eaten Staff very attentive. My only negative is the dining chairs are in a dreadful condition, the faux leather is peeling off on all of them! Making the chairs looking tatty and worn! Perhaps a fitted cover over them would improve the look? Not what I would have expected at this type of venue - they are fit for the skip!
Positive experience: I went here with family and friends for Xmas Dinner. We were served our starter very quickly after sitting down. We then went to get a carvery dinner. The food was warm, to say the least and all of us found fault with the meal somewhere. The biggest minus though was the fact that there were a lot of people crammed in to the room and the noise was such that we found it difficult to hold a conversation between ourselves.
Positive experience: Bar and restaurant pretty decent. Best pot of tea I've ever had in a hotel. Rooms and some communal areas in need of modernisation
Negative experience: Stayed in the hotel last wk very disapointed/ basic staff. Behind the toilet was very dirty. Swallowed that in, slept woke up scratching my self, put the light on louse on the bed my arms red and body, still now on my arms visible, itching, woke up husband showed him. We couldnt sleep stayed on the chair till morning. There is no privacy we could here every discussion next door. Breakfast was ok in the morning. Honest couldnt wait to come home all the way to birmingham
Fantastic experience: Today,..I came as "Flowers by Julie,".. I had wedding flowers to do.. The place inside was lovely and warm..clean and on sat nav..coming from Ipswich,..was very easy to follow.. I don't usually travel so far to do weddings,..but I'm certainly glad I did... Hope the bride ,Natasha,..and her now husband,..have many happy memories of their special day..
Positive experience: For the time of year course was in good condition. Food and drink very good. Pro shop fully stocked . All staff were friendly and hepful.
Fantastic experience: SUCH a great place to stay at. Convenient for the City. Comfortable rooms and good facilities. The Staff always welcome you whether it's your first visit or you've been many times. Looking forward to staying there again soon.
Positive experience: Friendly helpful staff. Clean and comfortable. Good choice menus. Would use this hotel again.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I had a weekend here, for a masonic ladies festival. Staff were fantastic, food was great. We had a fantastic view across golf course from our room. Highly recommend for a stay or a function, and if you like golf bring your clubs.
Negative experience: Grim rooms with grim views, superficially clean but damp and unhealthy. Heating doesn't come on until 4PM and leaves the rooms freezing, damp, musty and made my partner cough continuously overnight. Decent food at dinner but breakfast was poor. Scrambled egg served in cold blocks, literally slices. Sent mine back but was replaced with more of the same. Hotels are fundamentally about the rooms, and these are not good enough. More expensive than other hotels in the area as well. Next year I'll attend an event here but sleep elsewhere. Not recommended despite lovely staff throughout.
Positive experience: Our golf society played the Valley course (Oct 22) and were well looked after with bacon rolls and coffee prior to play, and a nice steak and ale pie afterwards. The fairways had suffered from the summer drought. The greens were good, but tricky to read. Good helpful service and ample parking.
Positive experience: Staff very polite and helpful. Room very dated. Hadn't been cleaned properly as found birthday candles on the floor beside my bed. Bed very uncomfortable felt like springs sticking in my back resulting in not much sleep TV very tiny and dated as lines showing on screen. Very noisy from upstairs reasonable for the price
Positive experience: The room are really not how shut be, very old style, the food are OK, the wiew of place is mirific. My very confused question is about tap in the bathroom, how is it possible to use the adjusted temperature, for more details see picture attached...
Positive experience: Staff are really friendly and welcoming, rooms are a little dated but still nice, played golf on the wensum course greens were a bit bumpy and fairways were not great, looks like there doing some work on a few holes so hopefully will improve after time, looking forward to visiting again. Pool was very nice , bar and restaurant also nice and kept clean and tidy.
Negative experience: The room was freezing reported problem but was told they had problems with the heating was given alternative room on other side of hotel but had the same problem was then given an electric heater which made the room very dry and caused me to have a sore throat due to work I was staying at the hotel for 4 weeks in the end it became intolerable it was actually warmer out side at night than in the room and this was in October .transfers to the premier inn . They obviously have a severe problem with the heating or they are just not putting the heating on in the rooms all other facilities were ok but you do expect to be comfortable when you go to bed not shivering in a freezing room .
Fantastic experience: Staff and golf courses are fine.food is good.hotel is very clean but walls are not soundproof so if you have noisy neighbors and you are a lite sleeper you may be kept awake
Fantastic experience: The staff are really helpful and friendly, they made our stay even more enjoyable. Our room was beautifully clean and comfortable, the food was excellent and we had two days of really enjoyable golf. Couldn't have wished for anything more
Positive experience: Food was good & staff friendly. The rooms however look a bit tired & jaded. The carpets were a bit dirty & the shower was poor. The rooms & the Valley course for golf were the reason for low score.
Positive experience: We quite often come here for a carvery. This Sunday sadly wasn't as good as normal and seemed like it was lacking in veg options. But it's usually very good so of course we will be back.
Positive experience: Played the Valley course in seniors match. First time I've played here and really enjoyed it. The course isn't very long but if your tee shot isn't on the right side of the fairway then the sloping greens will really test you. The club house is welcoming even though it is shared with the hotel complex. All staff were very friendly and the food excellent. Great place for a short golf break with choice of 2 courses.
Negative experience: Very basic room, tiny window that you could only see out of if standing on a stool, tiny TV, very hot despite opening tiny window! Room and bathroom was very clean. Incredibly noisy every night doors banging, singing and shouting late into the night and early morning. Generally dated and wouldn't stay again.
Positive experience: Rooms are very dated a really small television 2 bed put together to make one big one it was awful may have left as 2 beds u couldn't have a cuddle cos of dip in middle. bathroom needed attention black mould on side in shower, and on ceiling. Staff lovely ,food nice too view's are lovely .all in all rooms let it down
Positive experience: Beautiful spot for short or long stays. Our room was comfortable for a two night stay, but could really do with some updating - particularly the shower. Everything else was great!
Negative experience: Came for close friend's wedding. Asked for early check in as had travelled from Liverpool and needed to change. Staff refused. Lobby area looked good but room was awful. Carpet covered in stains, tv was tiny with poor reception. Generally grubby and dated. Ony enough shower gel and shampoo for 1 person. Shower pressure good but water was cold. Towels smelled burned. Room was hot. Asked for a fan but none available. Breakfast: scrambled eggs were inedible. Full English was good. Overall very disappointing. Even though the wedding was at the same place would not stay here again. Golf course looks nice, obviously the main focus. Hotel let's it down badly.
Fantastic experience: Every single member of staff were very polite & friendly. From the day of our telephone booking to the end of our stay! The room we stayed in was spacious and very clean. Breakfast & spa was lovely - just what we needed for one night get away which is only 20 mins by car from city centre and in a green area. The only reason I gave the room a 4 star is that the decor is old fashioned for my taste & checkout is a touch too early for me.. However, this wouldn't prevent me from going back! Lovely place, lovely people, lovely location, lovely food.
Negative experience: Room was a let down, booked a double but got 2 singles and the zip to make it into a double was broken. Bathroom sink still had last occupants toothpaste on it, the shower curtain had brown marks on it. And the nealrly £10 "continental" breakfast consisting of juice, brown cereal selction and croissants made me chuckle. Not a morsel of meat or cheese to be seen. Overall the nights sleep was good but the place is in tatters and in dire need of a lick of paint and new dining room chairs. 2/10
Negative experience: I could not get a wink of sleep in this hotel as the noise from the area below my room was loud from some guests. The staff were unhelpful in resolving this at 1:00am in the morning. The undignified guests started using the f word and c word in their language. Still the hotel staff kept on serving them drinks until 2:00am with no ability to get this under control. I did not get any sleep and had to be up early the next morning. Unfortunate hotel and would not be staying there ever again as they did nothing in compensation. Very bad service.
Fantastic experience: Never stayed in the rooms.Bit as a member of the swim and class I have found the staff really helpful. On occasion I have eaten in the club house, lovely decor, comfortable seating options, inside and outside. The service and food really good and the staff polite and welcoming. Thank you
