Hyndburn Leisure Centre

Negative experience: Myself and my partner joined last year, mainly to use the gym and thermal suite. The thermal suite is filthy and the gym is basically a youth club. Groups of kids hanging around unsupervised in their coats messing about on the equipment, and shouting to each other over the gym. I will definitely not be renewing my membership when it runs out this weekend!

Negative experience: I went with my sister for the “general swim” yesterday and they said it’s family swim only. on the website it said general swim. we got there excited and they told us that we HAVE to have an adult with us. so we left and as we was leaving we heard them saying to other kids that they can go in. this is pathetic ‍♀️‍♀️

Negative experience: Staff has no training not very customer service I been going to gym for two years staff is not good and not helpful at all I go there only because I live very near suna is alway very dirty I complain many time but they don’t care I think that’s why I see every week new staff

Negative experience: The swimming pool are always dirty especially if you look closely to the corners, god knows when was the last time the cleaned the place. Also the other day I went I saw a dirty plaster in the pool.

Negative experience: For me the best thing about this place is the swimming lessons and swim coach staff. My review is not based on them at all as they really are the friendliest staff who are dedicated to teaching your children to swim. Sam is amazing with SEN children. She is a teacher with a gift. My child is SEN, yet he responds to Sam in a way that he never has to any other swim teacher. It was recommended that I try to get her for my son as others mums with SEN kids said she is fantastic at her job and with these kids. The swim staff are a solid 5* . I have not had any dealings with the GYM side of it. My review is based on lost property. After my childs swimming lesson we left our coats by mistake. Sadly, I was taken into hospital with a serious issue, and due to my recovery, we was.not able to attend the gym for 2 weeks. I asked reception for our coats.but was told they were taken to the charity shop. My coat was a £95 named coat. I was told a staff member collects the items left at this gym and gives them to a lady who work for charity. I'm sorry, but what?. I don't believe my excellent condition named coat was just given to charity. 2 weeks is not OK to just go and give other people's belongings away. I understand the gym accumulates a lot of lost property, but 2 weeks to get rid of it is a joke. Customers leave their property by mistake. If you leave an item then go holiday or end up in hospital like I did you can forget ever getting your stuff back. However, I have found they are breaking their own policy on this. They claim this is their policy however a policy is broken when the staff pick and choose when to apply it to the buissness. Staff pick and choose what lost property they keep and what they send to "so called charity" (I say so called as reception could not tell me which charity shop I would find my expensive coat in. They had no idea). This has been an issue for customers and is high up on Google search. This jas happened to me twice now.amd jas happened to many other customers I have spoken to. Don't bother trying to reception staff about it as they are blunt, unsympathetic, and speak to you like they really don't care.

Negative experience: Im surprised at the reviews of this place. The pool is always cold and dirty (iv been going for approx. 2 years now). The admin staff are not professional and trained properly and are clueless as to sessions of childrens swimming lessons. Its also quite dated and needs a revamp. Very old 1980's look. Wont be returning here. PS. Changing rooms and showers are shared. Meaning your little loved ones will be sharing the showers with senior adults

Fantastic experience: Went with the grandchildren on Sunday to the soft play area and they had loads of fun, great spread out play area for the bigger kids and a toddler area and a baby area so everyone was safe and sound. We had brews and drinks for the children and they were very cheap compared to other play centers, again great quality tea and coffee and not cheap tasting, the staff were all lovely and when the next table spilt there drinks were there in a flash to clean it up and re made the spilt drinks for them too. Well worth a visit for a fun 2 hour play time.

Negative experience: Sauna and steam room need a deep clean! A proper clean between session as I have witness the cleaners just throw water and wipe general or just pick visible odd rubbish and then walk out! There are so many dirt flies above the showers that puts you off from showering (then shower at home). I would rather smell bleach - to acknowledge it’s been sanitised rather then smell sewage (absolutely awful) Iv paid for the annual membership (regretting it now). Reported many times. My big concern is cleanliness! Staff need to be supervised- as there seems to be no checks made! Thought Jetts won the award for uncleanliness . Classes and gym are ok Friendly staff on reception- at peak times hard to book into sessions! Online systems currently not working to scan into classes. Hope this is implemented soon as it would cut back on queue at reception.

Positive experience: Was good apart from the key’s having no straps on for the lockers. So was worried I would lose it

Negative experience: Abysmal facilities, still stuck in the past, changing rooms filthy. Akward swimming/sauna timetable and unexpected swimming bookings every week which reception staff are often oblivious. Seems like timetables are designed to cater for the jobless with plenty of free time. Gym has no self serve water fountain, instead you must que up at cafe to 'ask' for your bottle refill and in the evening when cafe is closed you must go back downstairs and 'ask' staff at reception to refill your water bottle, seems very inconvenient. Water refill issue not addressed for several months.

Fantastic experience: Whatever exercises/swimming you want to do, they are available, children catered for too. Also, there's a lovely cafe upstairs with a wide variety of snacks and meals available for children and adults

Negative experience: Took my son to the adventure soft play, its nice and clean. Wasn't happy as the website says the meal was included but I went there at 3:30 and when went to get some food at 4:10 been told the kitchen closed. Nobody mentioned about the kitchen closing. Ive sent an email to raise this matter and sadly not a reply

Positive experience: Generally i have great experiences here. My child had an amazing swimming teacher, gymnastics lessons werent for us she has adhd and they often didnt supervise well enough so at one point she walked under the trampoline while the others were bouncing and no one even noticed obviously we saw from the viewing point parents watch from but couldnt do anything it was scary so we took her out but again if it was a class of normal children maybe they wouldnt need to supervise as much so you cant blame them. Although i had a strange experience in adventure city yesterday me and my sister took my nephew to play and there were 2 women working there and they were like night and day one was lovely and the other one with a pink clip in her hair seemed to have had a really bad day and was taking it out on me? She refused to talk except to briskly ask 'are you going to order? ' and (after waiting for a good few minutes at the till for the order number they normally give) 'we'll bring it to you' and when she brought the food she just slammed it on the desk and walked off. I tried not to take it to heart though and assume she must be going through something difficult also not having the best experience via emails right now im trying to book my child on for haf and despite already signing up for the haf scheme theyre insisting i have to print out some forms and fill them in like im scraping to pay my bills and im meant to pay for a printer paper and ink? Itd be cheaper to pay for a play session and i dont remember having to do this last year

Positive experience: We t there with my daughter swimming my daughter forgot her goggles so I went to buy her some they were nearly 10 pounds. Anyway the man behind pulled a bag of goggles left behind and offered my daughter to pick some for herself which I thought was nice and saved me some money.

Negative experience: I came to hyndburn leisure centre for swimming last week. It’s the most disgusting place I have ever been, the changing rooms were so dirty and smelt so bad that I couldn’t take my shoes off, the pool also had black dirt at the bottom of it. Safe to say I didn’t stay long

Negative experience: After hunting your website and Facebook for updates about bank holiday opening hours only to find nothing. We then decided to phone up to hear a voice automated messaged saying all your facilities are open- only to show up at the centre to find it CLOSED! Needless to say the kids and mayself are annoyed at the lack of information provided on on your website, socials and Google! Adventure city socials also haven't been updated since December 2022!

Fantastic experience: Great hub for the community but could do with more funds to develop into the future. People make the effort to train and should be encouraged.

Positive experience: The staff are great, very helpful and friendly. The facilities are okay - The gym is a bit lacklustre for equipment, but has most things you'd want. The pool is okay, extremely annoying that half the lockers and their keys seem to either be janky or broken. Also weird flying bugs crawling in the run off.

Fantastic experience: Went for ladies sauna, steam room and then swim in general pool, good quality for a leisure centre. Lots of friendly people there. Space is limited and not really able to relax as not sunbed type beds but that was only a little downside. And a pound for lockers, returnable of course. I know the centre does well and has multiple activities that appear to be very well used by the whole community, something for everyone, kids have loads of activities. The whole place was well used by wide variety of ages.

Positive experience: Good place for kids in the kidzone, plenty to do and you can get food as well

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, great set up. Decent equipment. Looking forward to getting fitter. Yoga is brilliant on a Monday evening!! Decent squash courts for a great price, mainly empty during the day too!

Positive experience: Visited adventure city here recently. The play centre is fine for older kids the play area is modern and clean but I wouldn't reccomend for younger children. The gates at the front aren't fit for purpose and allow children to push them open meaning they can escape. My escape artist 2 year old quickly realised this and left the room. Luckily I realised before he went too far. Although the gates look good theyre useless to keep kids contained in a safe space. Older children also play in the parts of the play area meant for small children which can result in the younger kids being knocked over. Also disappointing that adults aren't allowed on the equipment so young ones are expected to play alone. Food/drink is good and reasonably priced.

Positive experience: Friendly staff. Relatively difficult to get through to reception on the phone - waits of over three minutes are not unusual. Squash courts are very cold in winter but they are good value compared to other venues!

Negative experience: its ok but taking babies theres no point toddlers age 3 upwards are crazy in the baby section which results in injuries , when your trying to eat theres no lids on the cups of tea or coffee which children knocking the tables results in spillages and can cause kids to burn themselves which as a play area this should be taken into consideration . walked out after about 15 minites due to my 11 month old couldnt play because older kids was knocking him around . great for 4 upwards but deffinatly not for babies or toddlers .

Positive experience: Visited as the Physio said it may help with an injury. Didn't know what to expect but Mark explained everything fully and listened intently before offering advise. Will be back!

Fantastic experience: Very happy with my experience so far, good gym, not so busy or crammed when I go like other gyms can be. It needs a water fountain though. The pool is great and you can usually find space and a lane to suit your pace.

Positive experience: Son does his swimming lessons here and it's well run and very reasonably priced. Building is a bit dated though and could do with some improvements.

Negative experience: Ok place, has lots going on but I was devastated to have witnessed the cleaner hosing down the mens swimming locker room and pushing the dirty water into the swimming pool. It was absolutely gross. I told reception, to be told yes they try to aim the dirty locker room water into the gauzes surrounding the swimming pool, sorry but this is unhygienic and water is still going to end up in the pool. Don’t forget this includes water from the toilet and shower too… absolutely gross. This was a while ago, but I doubt they’ve changed this practice.

Fantastic experience: Almost died here once lifeguards did nothing but when i splashed a bit of water once they shouted at me.

Negative experience: I've tried to book a badminton or squash court for two weekends running and whenever I call, nobody ever answers the phone ?!

Fantastic experience: Great place for adults and children, I went to the soft play area and it was lovely and clean. The staff are helpful and they have a great little cafe with reasonable prices.

Negative experience: Need cubicles for showers. Can't have your child in the showers with someone with their bits out... The management team need to look into this.

Negative experience: Swimming for kids here is awful-different teachers every week, lack of communication and the family chasing rooms are full, while the Larger family rooms always locked . Cafe isn’t great either as lack of staff means sometimes they won’t sell food as they are to busy.
