Our comment from FitFit UK about Hailsham Leisure Centre:
The Hailsham Leisure Centre is a vibrant community hub that offers a wide range of activities for families and individuals alike. Visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, making each experience welcoming and enjoyable. The centre features a family-friendly swimming pool, which while occasionally criticized for its temperature, is generally described as spacious and clean. Many appreciated the great value of the amenities, including bowling and various fitness classes.
However, some users have raised concerns regarding the hygiene and maintenance of certain facilities, particularly the changing rooms which can miss the mark in cleanliness. A few reports also mention issues with pool temperature and staff experiences that could be improved. Despite these criticisms, the centre is highlighted as a popular spot for family activities, emphasizing the overall positive atmosphere.
In summary, Hailsham Leisure Centre is a great place to enjoy leisure activities with family and friends, complemented by a range of classes and sports, although improvements in cleanliness and facility maintenance would enhance the experience further.
Hailsham Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Very helpful staff. A hive of activity. Would recommend.
Positive experience: Lovely place to swim especially considering it's cheaper than commercially owned pools. The pool water is cold though. But there is a nice sauna to warm you up.
Fantastic experience: Very good facilities and changing area. Very hot in the pool area.
Negative experience: Rubbish facilities, poor hygiene and rude staff. Been on 2 different occasions where both pool and reception staff have been rude to me and my wife. Changing rooms are always filthy and stink like a sewer and the pool side isn't much better. Complete waste of time and money.
Positive experience: Good selection of classes. Shame about the plumbing issues.
Fantastic experience: A great Leisure Centre with lovely, friendly, helpful staff, fab!
Fantastic experience: Great value bowling, pool is spacious and warm, haven't used gym
Fantastic experience: Clean, friendly staff . A lovely experience
Positive experience: Staff are friendly and welcoming to the centre
Positive experience: Took my son here for a swim over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Nice clean place with a nice pool and a great slide.
Negative experience: Travelled with young children specially for the flume but it was closed. Not informed before ourchasing tickets and waited till 10 minutes past opening time to ask and be told it was due to staffing issues last minute. Complained to manager at the till to find they were still not telling customers as waiting customers then decided not to go in on hearing it was shut. Manager just said sorry and moved on to serve someone else. Pool has mouldy walls, leaking roof dripping fetid rust water into changing rooms where floor was dirty and covered in hair and debris which I doubt was from the short amount of time they would have been open.
Negative experience: I've been a member at this gym for a year now and it's got worse and worse. There's one working shower in the men's changing room. The urinal needs fixing and makes the changing room smell of piss. The gym is staffed but the staff do nothing. There are loads of kids using the gym equipment, no one tells them to wipe it down, and they gathering around equipment when other members are trying to use it ... Staff say nothing. The swimming pool changing rooms are also pretty nasty. And to top it off, the classes are always fully booked and the pilates and spin classes are at inconvenient times. Overall it's bad. Staff need training and the whole place needs a good scrub and revamp. I'll be cancelling my membership next month and going somewhere else.
Positive experience: Nice staff when we went. Water was a bit cold but plenty of room
Positive experience: Went here for bowling, really intriguing layout quite a big leisure centre. The bowling is a good experience and at the start a professional welcoming receptionist.
Positive experience: Clean, popular community facility with a family-style swimming pool, gym exercise facilities and tenpin bowling lanes, which can be booked in advance & is a very popular place for children's birthday parties. Food & drinks are also available here with a wide range of fast food items and a selection of hot & cold drinks. This is a very popular venue for families and a valuable community hub for residents of Hailsham and visitors alike. Highly recommended venue.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic venue great staff, great team
Fantastic experience: Only did soft play today but the pool looks amazing. All services were clean :)
Thank you for your positive review, we hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great staff who really care about their customers. Friendly instructors providing a broad range of classes, providing options so everyone can enjoy and stretch themselves and have a great workout.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review. We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Tin pin bowing
Positive experience: Great place, great staff , family fun pool.
Thank you for your positive feedback! We appreciate your kind words.
Fantastic experience: Just a great place. On a very rainy Saturday we played bowling and had lunch and then swam. Excellent service and food.
Fantastic experience: Just finished my swim and was amazed when the lifeguard started to apologise for the children's swimming lessons. He said they had had nasty comments about them. What is wrong with people? Only wish there had been fun lessons in my day, maybe then my daughter would come in the water with us instead of missing all the fun. Keep it up and ignore the miseries
Negative experience: My granddaughter has swimming lessons but she us allowed to mess about with others as soon as there are new kids. I pay for lessons but she isn't getting them
Negative experience: Swimming lesson teacher is great, however the water is too cold for babies. My son has to get out half way through a lesson due to blue lips and shivering and he wasn't the only child. There needs to be a separate warmer pool for babies.
Positive experience: Good place for family and friends for all uour leisurely needs
Positive experience: Been swimming and bowling, boys really enjoyed birthday parties here ,
Thank you for your positive feedback. We are so glad you had a good experience with us.
Negative experience: Carers discount card no longer accepted, very disappointed with this new policy. Freedom leisure or WDC Pool was busy for lanes but deserted afterwards.
Positive experience: We use the soft play. It's very basic but clean. Just have to keep reminding them that red cords in disabled toilets shouldn't be tied up! Every time we visit they are tied up high.. no good to someone on the floor now!
Negative experience: Horrible place I took my children to go swimming and someone’s chiles had done there business in the pool
Positive experience: Took little one there to soft play I was pleasantly surprised how varse it was kept entertained for a hour which its not an easy task
Fantastic experience: Very nice little pool. Helpful staff, free parking up to 3 hours. Lockers for 20p. Clean and plenty of life guards. The only thing I didn't like was the floor in the child's pool was a little spiky. The tiles have grip in them just a little spiky
Negative experience: Dirty, broken changing rooms, faulty facilities, pool cold, do not come here!
Positive experience: I like Hailsham leisure centre and use it for swimming and bowling. The staff are always really friendly especially Tabitha. The reason for only 3 star's are because when we go bowling the lanes are a bit wonky and the ball will role of to the side but we still always have fun! The most disappointing thing tho is the slide is never open, they never get the inflatable out any more and the float's are in poor condition and need replacing and need more so everyone gets a go. I would still recommend coming here tho as it's not usually too busy.
Positive experience: Lovely friendly staff helpful
Fantastic experience: Went with grandkids for bowling expensive for 2 games as hampden park you cauld have a burger and chips for an extra pound if you did 2 games
Fantastic experience: The friendliest gym I’ve been to… great classes too.
Positive experience: Relax and pump iron like popeye
Negative experience: Most of the receptionists and swimming lesson teachers are very nice and helpful! Thank them a lot .But today I got very bad experience from the tall blonde hair young receptionist, she ignored me to help other customers even she saw me have been waiting for her much earlier than others ,when I asked why ,she told me I have to go all the way to outside of gate to buy the swimming tickets when my daughter is already in swimming class(she has the membership,I just wanted buy tickets to join her after her class) ,but I have bought the tickets inside the gate many times no problems before. If because she said it was busy,She could tell me at beginning instead of ignoring me. So I 'm changing my review because of her treated me very unfairly. I hope I don't have to have any customer service from her again.
Positive experience: Hailsham Leisure has helped me in so many ways. The exercise and in particular the pool helped me recover from several orthopaedic surgeries. Rebuilt my muscle strength and mobility. Also after the death of my husband the friendships I have found are invaluable. I go about 3 times a week and love it. I recommend everyone can find something they will love too.
Positive experience: good gym but quite small could do with some more machines
Negative experience: Changing rooms were disgusting, dirt all over the floors.. the most disgusting pool I have ever been in, I felt physically sick! Never again. Pool was freezing too. Such a shame, as the bowling area etc. is decent. The slide doesn’t even work, their inflatable time is just a few foam mats that the kids sit on. Generally the worse pool I have been in.
Fantastic experience: Went for the soft play and found it very clean and well organised. You get a 2 hour allotted time and your receipt allows you access in and out of the area. Separate play areas for slightly older and younger children both with slides. Adults can relax at the tables and see the whole soft play area without having to enter the actual soft play.
Positive experience: Great new gym equipment Swimming pool changing rooms in need of an upgrade
Positive experience: Nice gym and friendly staff with sauna and swimming pool Water slide broken and is never used and lots of roof leaks everywhere
Fantastic experience: All staff are great as with the facilities
Fantastic experience: Best bowling ever
Fantastic experience: Used the pool for adult only 'lane swimming ' quiet with plenty of space to swim Friendly staff, clean changing room
Negative experience: Recently did a 4 day free pass, used it once for swimming. The changing rooms really need to be sorted out. It is so dirty, constant drips from the ceiling, floors and changing rooms are disgusting(early morning swim 7.30am and there was wee on one of the changing room seats) Water in the pool is cold, no drinking water access anywhere in pool area like other places. Very pricey for the quality here.
Fantastic experience: Very impressive gym, great for the whole family, including soft play and bowling.
Negative experience: Blonde middle aged woman at reception is rude. Used the gym for several months (around 7am), ended up leaving because one of the members was obnoxious to the point of screaming and shouting across the gym at people, this happened daily and the PT present just ignored it. Definitely not worth the cost, better gyms with better equipment and better staff, for cheaper!
Positive experience: Very young inexperienced staff. Out of good value for money the score is 3. Swimming pool is tiny and the whole building needs refurbishment.
Negative experience: Most visits here end in disappointment, today no swimming as they close the whole pool for lessons. Could be a nice place bur very expensive and not friendly at all
Negative experience: Not cheap and slide not working . Toilets dirty at 12.45 pm...no hand soap in dispenser. Pool more chilled than warm. Showers too hot! Hairdryers not working. Went to Burgess Hill leisure last week and Hailsham needs to send a rep there to see what it could be like. Won't bother here again...
Positive experience: We were in the area and visiting the pool today with our kids. No pre-booking but slots still limited to 60minutes. Adult ticket is £5 and kids aged 5+ is £5.50. I wouldn’t say the pool is warm like other reviews! My 8yo and 6yo were very busy swimming/playing and still shivering, I think we would have got out after an hour anyway because of that. I also took my 1yo, the baby pool isn’t any warmer as it’s all adjoining to the main pool. The shallow bit for babies has a really rough/bumpy and quite sharp floor too, which made it really uncomfortable if you’re going to be kneeling or sitting alongside them. Also, the flume was closed! Very disappointing as we saw the pictures beforehand. A small space for showering (especially as a lot of people are asked to leave at the same time/end of their slot) so a queue to use them, and very rushed. Lots of changing rooms, but the floors were pretty grubby. There is a cafe by reception which is better maintained, Costa coffee and kids meal deals for £4.50 (lunch box type). The soft play was hard to resist once the kids had set eyes on it! The cost for that is £5.50 per person, a good thing that you’re not limited to a time slot there. Also the parking is free - thankfully!
Fantastic experience: All the facilities are lovely and well maintained. Friendly staff. Great place to work out or have family fun!
Fantastic experience: Thank you Maggie, brilliant swimm teacher, for organizing such a wonderful fun filled session today. Kids loved it....and so did the parents ♀️
Positive experience: We only use the swimming pool which I would rate as adequate
Fantastic experience: My daughter has swimming lessons here. Teachers are great. Cafe is nice. Soft play also great for keeping little ones busy. Still yet to do bowling. Great place
Negative experience: Tried to go bowling for my sons birthday, booked a few days before. Was told at the desk our booking was double booked? so we had to wait half an our, wasn't offered a drink or anything. Not a single apology. Was told 30 mins later the lane was free for us to go down, went down the lane isn't ready and someone is playing on it. Went up so just ask for our money back, still no apology. Wasn't a great experiance, especially when it is for a childs birthday.
Fantastic experience: Clean pool nice staff
Positive experience: Great afternoon bowling
Fantastic experience: Love it here, Staff are lovely. Nice neat n tidy.
Fantastic experience: The reception staff are so friendly and helpful. The water in the pool is clean, warm and usually not too busy at the times when I decide to go along for a swim.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy swimming here , the staff are amazingly friendly, they try to keep the place as clean as they can despite the state some people think it’s acceptable to leave the changing rooms in! A special mention to Max , James and Oli who seem to be very hard working and a credit to Freedom Leisure !
Fantastic experience: Amazing couldn't fault it
Negative experience: Turned up 10 minutes before my daughters swimming lesson. Doors were unlocked and staff present so we entered the building, but subsequently we were kicked out by very rude staff including the line manager. Admission not allowed to get my daughter ready as the building was “unsafe”. If that’s the case, swimming lesson times should be moved to cater for safety checks as there was insufficient time to get my daughter ready inclusive of taking her to the toilet before the lesson. I would reiterate my disgust at the rude manner I was spoken to be several members of staff, including being point blank ignored during our communications Makes for a horrid experience especially when my daughter was so excited for her lesson. Consider going elsewhere!!
Positive experience: Was clean in the changing rooms for swimming, the water was cold, wanted to get out withing 30 minutes, not so hood when you have children eho don't want to leave.
Fantastic experience: Great little leisure centre, pool is generally very warm. It's not huge but perfect for the kids.
Positive experience: Excellent,my only criticism is the pool era needs brightening up a bit.
Positive experience: Great soft play for the little ones with good facilities for when they're potty training if necessary.
Fantastic experience: Took the grandchildren to the soft play area, they enjoyed it . Very polite staff, will certainly be back
Positive experience: Ok centre, pool is not large but ok. Cafe and gym and bowling, all sorts of activities. Good classes there. Not the cleanest of places!
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Positive experience: It's fantastically mediocre, and that's OK. Will probably go back, as pool is less rammed on a weekend than some others.
Fantastic experience: Staff are lovely, I use the pool alot, the changing room refurb has made such a difference, facilities are great, wheelchair access is good,
Positive experience: We use the softplay here. My kids love it.
Positive experience: Swimming and gym facilities available here along with a children's play area, and a nice little cafe. Staff all seem nice and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Attended to play 2 games of ten pin bowling. Great fun, reasonably priced and great light setting
Positive experience: Great place to visit.quite impressive. If the cleaned the changing room floors more often It would be 5 X stars
Fantastic experience: Something for everyone here. A real asset to the community. Especially like the gym. EDIT: just had new equipment installed, biv improvement.
Negative experience: Going downhill to be honest. Need a big revamp on all aspects of the centre.
Fantastic experience: A very lovely leisure centre, warm and welcoming with good activities/facilities. Pleasant and caring staff.
Fantastic experience: Great place with so much to offer! Friendly staff and clean facilities. Love this gym.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a great review.
Positive experience: Clean, spacious and great customer service from all staff
Negative experience: We renewed our swim membership and checked opening times later, which was a mistake. No afternoon open swim (like before) so you could pop in with your child after school during weekdays. One lane open twice a week, seriously? Open swim during weekends is more family time/float fun and if you'd like to do your lanes... you can forget about it. Over £80 wasted. Extremely disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Yes good place yesterday took the grand children bowling we had a very good time and fun for the kids
Fantastic experience: I attended my granddaughter's birthday party in the pool and afterwards for their tea. It was a lovely party, good food and drinks and good, helpful staff.
Positive experience: This is a great leisure centre. Good swimming pool, friendly staff and a bowling alley!
Positive experience: Helpful, friendly staff, controlled attendance in pool, warm, nice coffee shop
Positive experience: Always have a lovely time here. Staff are friendly and helpful, and prices feel totally reasonable.
Fantastic experience: Lovely. We enjoyed bowling. They have a great selection of treats and drinks too.
Positive experience: Decent sized pool, changing rooms are clean and tidy
Negative experience: Own staff dont know the opening times ... we drove 30min only to be told that baby pool isnt open as told when we phoned this morning. Shame
Fantastic experience: Very clean and a organised.
Fantastic experience: Went swimming for 1st time in two years. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but tired tonight
Positive experience: A bit pricey compare to others.
Fantastic experience: What an experience... The pool thrives with joyous souls and the changing rooms don't have any soggy plasters on the floor! Yes please.
Fantastic experience: Very clean, well organised, staff are so happy and helpful
Fantastic experience: Ten pin bowling was great fun, was at a bit of a loose end as weather was terrible so booked this up, wow, brilliant value for money, just £9 a game mid week, all precautions put in place by friendly staff, all equipment was cleaned thoroughly between each session, social distancing was adhered to and masks were worn by staff and players, soft drinks and nibbles were available at reception and a one way system in place, in all, a great experience.
Negative experience: Great gym and classes, good soft play but needs cleaning a lot more with smelly toilets and dinghy changing rooms and poor variety of food available at its cafe, cute bowling ally!
