Our comment from FitFit UK about West Park Leisure Centre:

West Park Leisure Centre, located in Nottingham, offers a range of facilities that cater to both fitness enthusiasts and families. With a selection of clean and well-maintained swimming pools and a variety of fitness classes, most visitors find the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. Users have commented on the exceptional staff who are always ready to assist, making the experience enjoyable and pleasant.

Facilities include:

  • Well-equipped gym with friendly staff
  • Excellent parking facilities
  • Cleanliness maintained in the centre
  • A great selection of fitness classes
  • Affordable food options in the cafe

While the centre has received positive feedback for its friendly staff and clean environment, some users have noted issues such as the cold temperatures of the swimming pool and changing rooms, and occasional broken showers. Additionally, the limited swimming time for public use, especially during peak hours of swimming lessons, has been a point of concern for several visitors.

Despite these drawbacks, many feel that West Park Leisure Centre remains a solid choice for fitness and family activities, with plenty of opportunities for fun and exercise. Visitors recommend checking the timetable for swimming hours and class availability to ensure an optimal experience.

West Park Leisure Centre: Opinions

Negative experience: Join the swimming lessons for one year. Cold swimming pool, 3 out of 4 showers is broken, never fixed and cold, smelly changing room

Robert Smith 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: The prices are more than reasonable, and the staff are happy and more than prepared to help a disabled person in and out of the pool. Plus the meals in their cafe are very tasty and reasonably priced too.

Fantastic experience: I have to give it 5 starts if only for the customer service that I have received. I joined at Victoria park with the intention of swimming. Sadly their pool basically no longer exists in the evenings so began coming to west park. Whilst the facilities are well maintained and the staff away from the pool are great. if you are wanting to swim for fitness it might not be so worth your while, the pool gets busy but not un manageably so, the problems occcour if you’re swimming at faster than a minute per length but slower than about 25 seconds per length. You’ll find your self too fast for the slow lane and the medium lane as the slow overspills into the medium every day and forced to go into the fast lane where you’ll be too slow. not a huge issue until the slow lane further spills over into the fast lane, the life guards are quick to move you on from a lane if you’re too fast but will not move people on if they are too slow. this has caused issues with near misses daily when overtaking ect. I had had several issues where I had been made to move lane for swimming too fast for a particular lane even though I was keeping within the guidelines for pace as advertised on the website. It had made me feel unwelcome as a new member as the life guards were having me move repeatedly rather than enforcing the pace in each lane that they advertise. I requested cancellation through the management team and for it to be without penalty despite having 10 months left on my contract. The lady that I had spoken to was very understanding and had allowed me to cancel without fees but I would still be paying up until the end of August. I wholeheartedly appreciate that they allowed me to do this. As it would be better for me to move on to another pool than effectively restrict others useage of it by requesting pace limits be effectively monitored. West park is a great all rounder and has excellent facilities on the whole it just wasn’t what I needed.

Negative experience: Unfortunately this gym is rapidly going down hill. It gets full of kids and I get encouraging the younger generation to exercise but there are big groups that stand around chatting, doing nothing but making it impossible for other people to use the machines. When staff are around they do move them on but often there is no one around. The water machine has been slowly breaking over the past few weeks, now there is no water - people exercising need water and no sign of it being fixed or replaced. At times aircon is non existent, it’s cooler in reception than in the gym. Additionally it’s a regular occurrence that equipment breaks and isn’t replaced for quite a period of time. The one star is because it’s clean.

NICOLA FRETWELL 1 year ago

Positive experience: Plenty of parking. Well-equipped gym and friendly, helpful staff. It doesn't get too busy either. Lots of classes which mostly have good availability. On a negative note: The swimming pool is freezing, the changing rooms for the pool are freezing and they have a very unpleasant smell.

Rafaela Connors 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this centre, great staff, place is always clean and they have many modern gym equipment.

Mark Riley 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Wife wanted to start swimming in a very nice pool found this pool to be perfect not overly busy and not to expensive she really enjoys herself, she goes Mon, weds, Friday

Kevin Groom 1 year ago

Negative experience: Now I know how gold fish feel ..lane swimming in narrow over rounded lanes bumping into other swimmer's is bad enough but made even worse by half the pool being cordened of and empty..will not be going again

Wonders Galore 1 year ago

Negative experience: Gym is ok, very limited choice though and gets busy. Not very clean. The pool, especially at lunch times, is something akin to a pensioner-shark tank, who have zero lane etiquette. Not a pleasant swimming experience.

Phillip Mawson 1 year ago

Positive experience: The changing rooms stink awful. The showers made loud noises . The pool was cold . Mold on the wooden ceiling . No won’t be going again .

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy going to West Park gym..my daughter has subscribed but i use the pay as you go payment option which suits me better. Now that my youngest is 11 she too can join with us after her induction. If you don't want wall to wall teenage boys it's probably best not to go around 3pm when school finishes. Looking forward to taking part in one of the exercise classes available.

Karen Dalton 1 year ago

Negative experience: Really cold in and out of the pool. Seems like there is no heating anywhere. Very draughty from the flume that hasn't been used for years someone said that the door from the flume to the poolside doesn't shut properly not sure why they don't sort it out.

Kate Jackson 1 year ago

Positive experience: The main reason I've given this a 3 is simply because of the location, with it being about half way between my house and where I work. It is also quite quiet outside of standard peak hours, but other than that, I struggle to come up with too much positivity about this gym. Because of a injury sustained a few years back, I can only use certain pieces of equipment, such as the bikes, but there is an extremely limited number of them, with one often being ignored by everyone because it's a much older model. What makes it even worse is that far too many people don't have the courtesy to clean a machine they've just got sweaty all over. There are so many grebs that use the gym, don't clean a single thing that they use, and leave it to everyone else to sort their mess out. This could easily be solved by having a staff member walk around checking. The discount gyms do that and their fees are less than West Park Leisure Centre. I also suspect that most people using the gym also aren't members, and just waltz in, as I rarely get asked to show that I'm a member by reception, and the scanner for the door is often broken, so the door is wedged open. There's nothing stopping any random person walking in off of the street and using the gym most days. The opening hours at the weekend at very limiting for people who have a job on Saturday and Sunday. 9:30 is fine during the week, but at the weekends, only being open until 5 is significantly restricting, especially compared to nearby gyms such as Cliffords, which are open for much longer on the weekends. Finally, I'm also not particularly impressed that in the months where there are bank holidays, the monthly fee remains the same, but the centre is closed on those days. If you're not open for an entire month, charging for an entire month doesn't make sense. If it wasn't for the location, I would have left long ago.

Negative experience: Took my 1 year old twin granddaughters to the baby pool. It was so cold in the water that both of their lips turned blue and they were shivering. Complained to the lifeguard but he said that the water temperature was correct! Everyone else was complaining too but to no avail. Will never return.

Victoria Hayes 2 years ago

Negative experience: The changing rooms are cold dirty and smelly. The showers are worse. The pool itself was cleaner but really cold. I wouldn't go again

Melanie Clark 2 years ago

Negative experience: Have used West Park previously and it has been fantastic. Currently a member paying £34 a month for the pleasure. However, turned up today (Sunday) to take my daughter swimming only to find that the car park was so full that people were even parking on the pavement and we couldn’t get parked anywhere near it. Called West Park to find out if they had any spaces reserved for their members, only to be told by the staff member who took the call that it’s not actually their car park, which is really surprising to find out, especially when their website specifically states on the membership page, that they have a 235 space car park. So they shouldn’t be advertising facilities that they don’t actually have.

Fantastic experience: Excellent range of fitness classes available with an easy to use app to book in. All the class instructors are experienced, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and encouraging. I've felt really welcome in every class I've attended and the atmosphere is always really positive. The classes are great value for money. The gym is small but I've rarely had trouble accessing any equipment I've wanted to use. Lots of cardio machines available and I rarely see any out of order for a prolonged period of time. Staff get to know you quickly and greet you warmly which is appreciated and encourages you to keep returning. There is a free car park which is big and although it can get busy with the adjoining park, I've never had any issues finding a space.

Fantastic experience: We've taken our grandson to parent baby session with just baby pool open. We had a great time and absolutely enjoyed having all the floats, toys and watering can in the water. He loved it.

Negative experience: Now the place has been overran with immigrants with FREE membership us PAYING members that have been there for years can't get on any equipment. Very intimidating for Females up there too.

Negative experience: Used to be great when you could take the kids for a swm and pay at the desk. Tried to do this today for a bit of a day out, but needed to pre-book. Left and won't be coming back. Went to Moorways at Derby and had a great time.

Notorious Nathan 3 years ago

Negative experience: What a joke of a leisure centre and its only getting worse lately. When I was a kid it was great could just turn up pay a few quid then go for a swim, had a couple of water slides, both pools open. And very family friendly with a cafe upstairs for a cheeky chip cob after etc. Fast forward to 2022. Online booking only that was designed using windows xp. Nothing but lane swims all the time. Slides haven't been working for years. No cafe anymore. one and I repeat ONE kids swim at the weekend at 9am that is rammed or fully booked quickly, so if you wanna teach your kids how to swim in Long Eaton, better off using the canal. Absolute rubbish whoever is running this place last few years

Alessandro Favero 3 years ago

Negative experience: We missed my daughter's first swimming lesson because they didn't specify at the time of booking or in the confirmation email that an adult with the child in the pool was required. They did not apologize for their mistake. Not a good start with them.

Alessia Valente 3 years ago

Negative experience: I booked a swimming course for my 3 year old daughter, she is a beginner so I booked her for "BABY AND TODDLER SWIMMING LESSONS (up to 4 years)". I paid the monthly subscription, when we arrived in front of the pool they told us that I had to go with her to the pool, I explained that I do not have the suit with me and since I have a 1 year old boy with me I cannot go to water, I explained that I was not informed about this either in the booking process or in the confirmation email. This is why we missed the first day of class. I explained to customer service that since I always have a 1 year old baby with me it is difficult for me to find an easy solution and when I made the reservation my presence in the pool was not specified, now I have to find someone to take care of the 1 year old baby year when I am in the pool, it will be difficult for me this month, but it will be possible from next month. Customer support said this is my problem and they will not refund the payment or use the existing payment for the next month. I explained this is not fair as it is a lack of information on their part, and if I had known this when I made the booking I would have been able to find a solution. They didn't apologize for their mistake and said they don't care that this is their policy. They are very unprofessional.

Negative experience: Childs pool always cold my son developed a cold after he came out this needs looked at as too why its so cold all the time it should be at a set temperature

John Wright 3 years ago

Negative experience: Just been to take the kids swimming!” Sorry sir it’s lane swimming only “! All week !!!! , “there a family swim session on a Sunday “ !! REALLY !!! How ridiculous is that , you can’t take your kids swimming on an evening. And then everyone has to go Sunday all together so it will be rammed ! Oh no it won’t be , because you even have to book !! Gone are the days when you can just turn up to your local swimming baths and go for a swim . I guess theres more profit in lane swim and swimming lessons , we will not be going there ever again for anything! UNBELIEVABLE !

John Knighton 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great place. And all the Grandchildren love their swimming lessons here.

Trudy Lewis 3 years ago

Positive experience: Considering changing to another centre, the current system of three strikes is poor. If you turn up late you still get penalised

Jane Hardy 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Beautiful park. Lovely for a walk round . Splash pad and play areas for children. Plus football, rugby and cricket pitches. Also indoor tennis and skate boarding, and a indoor swimming pool and gym.

Not “I need money” Today 3 years ago

Negative experience: Use to be ok, but now they have limited swimming to 45mins, yet have not altered the price its a scam. Swimming times for children are also useless

Negative experience: No answers the phones! And the website is literally terrible.

Jane BROWN 4 years ago

Positive experience: Leisure centre that should really serve all community. Unfortunately, after covid it runs on very wierd schedule. Only one lifeguard available so you can only use 33.3% of pool. If by have 2 children a few years apart, you can't even take them swimming at the same time. Family swimming only runs on Sunday and it's only one slot a day! Tods swimming only around lunch time and no longer in the evening. Its only small or big pool and never both of them open at the same time. Sauna? Is it open? Big slides? Why is this closed? Please fix it so I can get my membership back. At the moment it's not worth of paying. Shame I have to drive to Village, living just across the road from u!

Fantastic experience: Lovely park, a couple of play areas and plenty of paths for kiddies to scoot about. The air trail was brilliant

Elizabeth Woollard 4 years ago

Positive experience: Tried to take my 3yr old swimming. I wasn't sure what the casual swim times were or if there was any restrictions so I checked the website and that needs a lot of work not user friendly and information hard/impossible to find so I tried to call a few times before heading there but unfortunately no answer. Upon arrival staff were very friendly advised I need to book on the website which as stated above wasn't easy to navigate and very glitchy but staff helped and got us booked in on their end. Changing rooms were clean and tidy, pool was freezing all the little ones lips were turning blue including my daughters and was a little hard to enjoy our time there due to being very cold. When exiting we were advised by another user that something had broken which was why the pool was so cold and that it's not normally as cold as that.

Positive experience: We were passing so not members but had a look and it's a lovely leisure centre. There is a big tube slide however that has not been in use for about 10 years ‍♀️ Free parking and the park just o the other side is great too.

Negative experience: Terrible website! Bloody he'll I don't have a masters degree so I can't book the baby pool! Get it sorted and maybe a bit more business will be forthcoming.

David Sadler 4 years ago

Positive experience: Swimming with the 2yr old. Really clean changing rooms (don't forget 20p for the lockers though ). Pool was a little cool for the kid, but okay. Plenty of floats for general use. Cafe and soft play was brilliant...and not overly pricey (£3.80) given that we were there for almost 2 hours.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic modern gym, great free weights area.

Thomas John Burke 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: The climbing frame at the park will be very popular my grand daughter's loved it and one only just making the height required to be accompanied it did test their metal it's not for the feint harted but very good family fun and proper bonding brilliant these things should be everywhere no matter how far you get its an achievement and confidence building and it's good value for money

Helen Toulson 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Staff are polite, helpful and welcoming. And stick to the trick covid rules

shirley hobster 4 years ago

Positive experience: On the whole the swim was good. The pool was set out well. I do feel that West Park has always failed with their changing rooms cleaning, I thought this would have been stepped up now. The changing cubicle I went in was wet from the previous person with talc all over the floor. My thinking is that as the pool entry and exit is so much better controlled then the cleaning should be more manageable. A young man who logged me in though was very helpful, he took me round and explained everything to me. I had a lovely swim after a year of being away, just the cubicle cleaning let an otherwise great place down

Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre great facilities and clean fresh changing rooms anyone should be happy to change in.

Madeline Alvey 5 years ago

Positive experience: This leisure centre has very little swim time for the public, if they don't have swimming lessons, the swimming club are in, even at the weekends. I think it's time the revued their time table. They have no creche facilities anymore, this was ideal for ladies morning and parent and toddler swimming lessons. If you have more than one child under school age.

Charles Malapitan (it_is_charles) 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: The staff at these facilities are always so friendly and greet you at your arrival and are so helpful in answering your questions. I would definitely recommend going if you want to enjoy a session at the gym or go swimming. The badminton courts are good and I would recommend trying their fitness classes if you haven't already, full of energy and enthusiasm.
