Negative experience: Been a member for two years, overall wouldn’t recommend anyone to join this gym. Prices always going up from 52£, 58£ to 62£… and now when you want to freeze your membership you pay 10£ a month, O and you need to show them your flight ticket haha crazy I know. Some of the staff members are very unprofessional and unhelpful, one of the P.T is flat out crazy.
Negative experience: I wish I had read the reviews before signing up. The duty manager Claudia was unnecessarily rude. My partner and I will be switching over to the David Lloyd, where I’ve had only positive experiences. They offer a fantastic gym with a much wider range of equipment and amazing spa facilities. I would recommend others read these reviews carefully before committing.

Negative experience: I have joined gyms and health centres before, but this is the first time I got asked to provide my flight tickets when I asked them to pause my membership for a month because I will be traveling. Even after I provided them with my flight tickets, they still refused to pause my membership and told me that my trip is "only" 3 weeks, they can only pause it if it is 4 weeks... This is ridiculous, as I think it actually violates my privacy by asking me for my travel details. Also, why would someone want to pay a monthly membership if they can't use the gym for more than half of the time?

We will be updating these terms in the couple of weeks, to allow freeze on a chargeable basis. Fantastic experience: Decent gym with friendly staff. - Cleanliness is good or excellent. - Staff are friendly and helpful. - The facilities are good. - Gym could do with another leg extension machine - it’s literally always in use. But in general the machines are good. - could also do with an abdominal machine…there isn’t one, yet there is the space. - Broken equipment is fixed quickly - almost everything works almost all the time. - members are friendly. - Poolside is excellent and sauna and steam are good. - changing rooms are clean and always have shower gel etc. - Pity they permanently closed the jacuzzi but this is my only gripe. You can tell the team at Guildford are engage with their work and genuinely like working here. The manager must be doing a good job and cares about their gym. I have written this review because I’m amazed of different experience there can be between gyms within the same group. Guildford is a huge contrast to the other branch I use, Wandsworth Southside (a higher tier), which is run appallingly. About 30% of its equipment is broken, it’s filthy (and I mean gross) and the staff although friendly and completely rudderless and the manager should be dismissed. Thank you to the team at Guildford - you make the Nuffield experience top rated. :-)

Negative experience: Some of the most unhelpful disinterested staff ever (perhaps customer facing roles aren't meant for them). Called and asked about a trial or purchasing a day pass, first staff member said "maybe" and I would need to come in person (so potentially wasting an hour of my day to risk being told no) or that I would need to speak to sales. Asked to speak to sales, they also said no, and ONLY offered monthly membership via direct debit, for £81 (laughable - do they have facilities made of gold??) Super customer unfriendly. Taking my business to Anytime Fitness instead, who is not only reasonably priced, but actually cares about their customers and has a great positive vibe!

Negative experience: Classes availability is scarce at best unless you wake up at 7AM a week prior to the class. My partner arrived for a class less than 5 minutes late and she was barred as someone on the “waiting list” had taken her position. this is an idiotic policy considering that some circumstances in life are unavoidable. As a family, we were paying an equivalent of £1500 per year, only for them to behave as if they are running one of those ancient country clubs where you should feel privileged to be a member. We have all cancelled our memberships as, for us, the policies and schedule are not fit for purpose. The family swim is not fit for purpose neither: No children in the pool on Sundays is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced from a swimming establishment.

If a member can't take part in the warmup, there space will be taken by someone on the waiting list. Fantastic experience: Attending privately owned Wet Bikes. This should be available in all swimming pools. The best non- weight bearing all body workout to music.

Fantastic experience: I swim at Nuffield Guildford regularly and have always received a lovely welcome from the team. Nothing is too much for them and each and every one of them is always happy to give guidance or assist with an issue. Mollie, Caroline, Lorraine and Ant have been fantastic with their advice which covers all aspects of life!! Fantastic experience: The premises are always very clean and the staff are very friendly. There are many classes in place for those who struggle working out by themselves like me. There’s a lot of equipment available so the gym can be used for any kind of workout.

Negative experience: I'm giving one star due to the poor service I experienced in November 2023: 1. On several occasions, the staff switched off the machines 30 minutes before the gym was due to close. Although they were willing to switch them back on upon request, it took so long to restart that there was hardly any time left to use them once they were ready. 2. On the evening of 16/11/2023, there was no hot water for showers in the gym. No hot water! Can you imagine a gym without hot water, especially in November? I understand that issues can occur, but the level of poor service I've encountered in the past 2 weeks is not what I expect.

Positive experience: I love the staff & reception & cafe and always feel welcome! Teachers are qualified ! All my friends moved here from old “ ruined “ club. I do miss the old spa which was excellent for aching joints but steam and sauna left. Best outside of Kensington ️

Negative experience: This gym always has an issue with their air conditioning. The gym is always hot and I also found the studio was hot too. I'm not sure if it was the instructor who didn't know how to put the air conditioning on or whether it is non existent. I didn't bother asking management as they tend to make it up as they go along which I've experienced in the past. Could do better but won't actually make any changes.

Negative experience: Air con not working every summer. As a wheelchair user can't use half facilities. Have to get changed in tanning room as people objected to my girlfriend helping me in the male changing room. Increase in prices and they have sealed over plunge pool.... not that I could get in it anyway. Can't access any of the showers either and they increased the charges

Negative experience: This is the second year in a row that I've been a member & they've been without air con. I can understand the cost behind this, however we pay a premium price & they've had more than enough time to find a solution. On top of this, they are closing the spa areas. I personally don't use this, but as part of my membership I'm sure I've been paying for it. We're yet to see any reduction in price for these closures.... I would urge others to look at other gyms in the area, including the Horizon which looks to have significantly better facilities. Every other gym in the area has a better offering now the spa area is closed for good!!

Negative experience: Have been a member now many years, but very disappointed to see jacuzzi/spa facilites closed permanently .. these were by far the best in the local area. To top this off, the air conditioning has been poor over the last year and in need of urgent repair. I have seen 2 people pass out / near pass out in the last couple of months due to the heat in the spinning studio alone and have heard their own staff say how unsafe the temperatures are getting at certain times. The least they can do is freeze membership for anyone that asks until the issue is rectified. The management refuses to do this despite openly admitting they are aware of the issues. Surely this must be breach of some health and safety regulations, and also of membership contracts.

Negative experience: The manager is terrible to help to find solutions ,especially the manager called Tim if there is something you need help and understandable . There is no understanding for your situation. The only thing they will tell you about policy. Also be mind they don’t care about customer. The manager won’t got commission and if something happens , they just told you if you want to cancel your membership, you cancel it . Think about it, what service they can provide , they don’t care at all. This is only job

Positive experience: What was a huge and powerful spa bath is confirmed as being closed, taken out even. I recognise that energy costs went up a lot last autumn and this led to a panic suspension of this valuable asset. But to spend money removing it is an error IMHO. This was a feature no other gyms could match. Maybe energy costs will subside a bit more when Put"in" becomes Put"out". Nuffield Directors need to think long term. Now just another gym and there are plenty of other options locally in Guildford.

Positive experience: Don't leave anything in the changing room. Totally my fault, left unattended, Nike trainers went missing....
Positive experience: I’m a member here, but since the cost of electricity has increased they have shut down the hydrotherapy spa pool!! This has been done at all Nuffield gyms I’m told, no reduction in anyone’s membership fee though! Told it will reopen in April. Went to take my 14 month old for a swim on Sunday, arrive to be told it’s not family swim day on Sunday as they don’t have any life guards on duty! This is poorly communicated to members, as been a member for many months but only found out on they day I arrive to take her swimming. The levels of staff service vary greatly, sometimes very welcoming and friendly, other times some staff act like it’s a lot of trouble to answer a question or serve you a coffee! These gyms are not cheap, and the only reason I continue my membership is due to a discount with my health insurance, if you are looking for a gym in the local area I would think carefully about choosing Nuffield, unless you get a good discount that is, because if I was paying full price, I would have absolutely cancelled my membership and found somewhere that had more modern facilities, and where the staff didn’t find it too much trouble to answer questions or grab you a coffee. 3 star rating is generous, and the only reason for that is because the main gym upstairs is very well equipped and has everything you need, unless the Aircon is broken, then it’s awful to work out in there.

Positive experience: I visited early on a weekday and the gym was busy enough, but not too busy. Enough cardio equipment not to be waiting, the pool is big enough and the locker room is clean and serviceable. Staff are nice too!

Positive experience: It’s ok, but there’s not nearly enough equipment for the level of members at peak times, cables specifically. There’s a lot of posing here and a lot of ‘test’…I write this as a seasoned gym goer and “muscle head”. I find that environment acceptable but, my personal feeling is that it wouldn’t feel very welcoming for new-comers. PT’s mainly located stood by the office door and not particularly engaging with the clients or general chaos.

Fantastic experience: Good sized gym with lots of varied equipment. The pool is lovely, always a lane free even when their is swimming lessons or classes going on. The steam room and sauna is very relaxing and always seems to be up and working unlike other nuffield gyms.

Positive experience: Good but needs improvement. The gym is great, new equipment, plenty of space. The pool is clean enough - spa could do with a remodel and cleaning up - the downside is that during peak times it's almost impossible to swim. This could be resolved by either having a booking system or extending opening hours. A 6.30am opening time is comparatively late compared to other gyms and makes it very difficult to get in a workout or swim on the days I'm in the office. Past gym I was at was open at 5.30am and others are open 24 hours nowadays.
Negative experience: I registered my two boys 13/15 years old and they went swimming a few days back and they didn’t let them in because they are underage. how come, underage boys, they been using the gym and the pool for a long time all ready but seems to be right for some people as favour business very disappointed and my boys really upset about this
Negative experience: The pool is not cleaned regularly always there disgusting stuff floating in the water. They cannot get the temperature of water right either!

Negative experience: Air con is broken once again. During the spring they brought in portable AC units for several weeks while it was fixed, and this is at least the second time it has broken since. 33 degrees outside, gym floor is upstairs, with no opening windows. The heat can only be described as disgusting, staff have done all they can by bringing out a couple of fans as a ‘we know it’s really really really hot’ gesture. Also this week, power cut at reception so no coffees or fridge for cold food. Sadly this is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Guildfords ‘premium’ national gym chain.

Positive experience: Lovely gym, very well equipped. Changing area could possibly need updating. Swimming pool and spa is lovely but also could do with some work. The floor is the jacuzzi is falling apart and very uncomfortable under the feet. Great cafe area. Staff are nice. I would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: This is a gorgeous gym, all new Technogym kit and great functional training space in the middle. A real mix of people and abilities makes a really approachable gym too

Fantastic experience: Great gym - facilities all in excellent condition and love the family swim option where I can bring my toddler for a splash about. Haven't tried all of the classes but HIIT and Spin are great. Friendly gym overall. Smoothies/coffees in the cafe are great option, though would be nice to see healthier options for fresh food - salads/wraps etc alongside the sandwiches and snacks.

Positive experience: I got a free Sky pass I only done one day out of the seven days.Swimming was good then I went up to the gym. Machines were limited due to the Covid which is not the gyms fault.I just felt a little overcrowded.Bit pricey to join espically when other family members would want to join.

Fantastic experience: I've been to many Nuffield gyms while travelling in the UK including many in the City of London. The Guildford Nuffield is by far the best of them all both in terms of equipment after the refurb, but more importantly it's exceptional staff and a real sense of community. Couldn't recommend this place high enough.

Negative experience: Just could not by a coffee it the coffee shop, because I am not a member. I wear a mask, but ladies on reception- not. People going crazy. Take care everyone think smart. Upd: its been long time since my message...I use to sit and buying coffee with another mums every Sunday in your coffee shop for a year before you refuse to sell and no one was a member. So you made up this rule when masks rules were lifted. Nobody from your staff were the mask at the time I came with mask and ask for coffee. I feel sorry for you. Glad it is a Tesco next to you now.

Fantastic experience: All the staff are very friendly. Not so busy but I do go at a round 9 to 11am so not peak times. Love the pool and spa too. Always a treat after a gym session. Plenty of classes available to choose from too. The app is great for booking and cancelling classes.

Fantastic experience: Excellent fitness centre. Cost more in comparison to other local gyms, but well worth it considering the high quality equipment, classes, got tub and steam.

Fantastic experience: The staff are brilliant and the class tutors are very experienced and make the classes fun
Negative experience: Kicked off squat rack by PT half way through my set because he had a client. When I said I was half way through my set he said 'I know but he pays' which is a bit of a kick in the teeth when I pay £756 a year for this gym.
Positive experience: Spin bikes could be fixed quicker but overall good gym
Negative experience: Asked the guy for another trial of the gym as I havebt quite made my mind up on the ones in the area I was looking for. Being a previous member didn't think they would mind (the gym has changed loads since I was a member) anyway he simply said no. When I asked whether we could just pay the 15£ pay as you use service and he said no again quite rudely. Helped us make the decision to go with DAVID LLOYD now, long hair and pony tail needs some customer service training........
