Negative experience: Atrocious service, no proper massage and untrained staff. I went with a buy gift voucher for 3 treatments with a total of 90 min time. Got there 30 min earlier, didn't get offer a complementary bag nor robe. Went I got to the treatment room the masseuse took about 14 min to come back into the room. Got some elemis products sprayed and put on, didn't even get asked the type of skin not which products I've got applied to. The back massage was the final straw, hardly felt anything and the lady was just not interested. The entire treatment took 46 mins total. I was infuriated and tried to claim at reception, but there wasn't anyone there! Their staff is untrained, not interested avoid at all cost

Negative experience: Disappointing. I was notified a few days before that I couldn’t have the massage treatment I booked with extension. No refund for the extension allowed. Treatment provided was only 45mins not 1hr as I paid for. Was given towel and robe rental as compensation, but I just wanted what I paid for or a refund.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member on and off for a few years and I've always found the place clean , well equipped and maintained.. The staff have always been friendly and helpful.. The yoga classes are fantastic! I would recommend bannatynes in banbury to anyone local thats looking for decent and clean gym, sauna and pool to use regularly.. Cheers, much appreciated

Negative experience: So I’ve been going to this gym for 13+ years, I’ve stuck it out because of familiarity. But the new price hike by an extra £5 a month is the last straw. Let’s talk about the gym, since I joined this gym they still have most of the old equipment since I joined, mainly cable machines, got rid of most possibly the best fly machine I’ve used. To get a brand new step machine when barely anyone used the old one. I’ve seen people in the gym in flip flops and no socks. To topless people, staff turnover is insane. I’ve had 2 verruca also from being bare foot. The adverts they use for the gym is a higher grade gym. Avoid
Negative experience: Myself and my friend visited today, my friend had brought me a Spa package as a birthday gift which included a treatment, use of the facilities and an afternoon cream tea. We were greeted well when we arrived, shown round the centre and the staff member was friendly. However when we walked through to sit next to the pool area there was an unpleasant ‘wee like’ smell. We then went off for our treatments, the lady greeted us well, was friendly the treatment was nice (I had mini facial and back massage). However whilst in the ‘Relaxation Room’ there was a lot of disturbance and we struggled to relax. We heard a humming noise which seemed to be coming from the air con and there was a lot of banging during the short time that we were ‘relaxing’ in this room. We then returned to the pool area to use the loungers to relax after our treatments, there seemed to be a class on in the pool which disturbed our relaxation time. We used the jacuzzi and steam room which were nice. We decided to then go for our Afternoon cream tea, we chose to sit on the sofa area where the table was unclean as were some of the other tables in the cafe area. When my friend went to ask about the afternoon cream tea, she was told by the staff member that it would be 1 hour wait!! I’m confused as to why it would take so long as the cafe was empty and we seemed to be the only ones using the ‘Spa Facilities’. The outcome of this was that we decided not to wait the hour for our cream tea which left us feeling hungry. I am disappointed with my visit to this Health Centre & Spa, this was not the day we imagined we would have, would not return!!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member here since December 2023 and it’s been great. All the staff are very friendly and helpful but Kristen in particular has been brilliant from the start, her training sessions are worth every penny because she pushes just hard enough to get 100% out of every hour. She’s extremely professional, conscientious, knowledgeable and very much in demand. Kristen’s classes are excellent and very popular. The club is always clean and the equipment always in good order whenever I’m there. I would recommend .

Negative experience: Went to the spa with my husband and both had a full body Swedish massage and scalp in the dual treatment room. The massages were the worst we have ever had, cold oil slapped onto our bodies and rubbed in like steak ready for cooking. We both said it was extremely fast paced, felt very rushed, the girls false nails were way too long, my husband was scratched by the nails. He also said no pressure was used at all, just as if they couldn't be bothered, very half asked and rushed. We sat in the relaxation area for a bit after, but people in there talking and laughing loudly, so no rest. There was also no cups for water. We didn't stay long, we felt achey and no pain or stress relieved from our whole experience and won't be returning there again, or recommending to anyone else.
Negative experience: The sauna, steam room and pool facilities are nice, however my mum and I had booked a spa day and it was the worst spa day we had ever had. The massages we both received were terrible, not relaxing at all, the masseuses are clearly very inexperienced and extremely unenthusiastic about being there. We did not feel welcomed and the back massage I received could only be described as someone smearing oil up and down my back, there was no pressure applied at all, no focus on any areas where I actually had knots in. My mum had a scalp massage and was quite literally more worried about her hair being pulled out than being relaxed due to how unpleasant the scalp massage was. I did write an email to the spa itself but got ignored so they clearly don’t value customer satisfaction either

Negative experience: Nice spa but treatments were poor. Very rushed and amateur. She slapped the elemis products on/off so fast and didn't speak or discuss what the products were. Massage started 20 mins late due to ‘system confusion’ which she had to go to main reception for - (despite us re confirming earlier on arrival and being told it was all booked fine and showing on the system). She made up the time by cutting treatments short and rushing them despite assuring me that would not happen. The massage was not good - I barely felt it - but she did do a nice manicure ( in moody silence). Overall I liked the spa and facilities. Clean, nice relaxation area with warm stone beds (however water ran out and was not replaced & empty cups left laying around). the changing rooms were nice - sauna and steam room good, but the treatments/therapist let the experience down a bit. She was moody, bordering on rude, and frankly not very good considering she said she had been doing it for years. She acted like she hated her job and made me feel a burden just for being there. It put me on edge and I was glad when it was over so I could go to the cafe (where the staff were lovely and friendly). I would not return for treatment's unless they make the treatment area run more professionally and have some staff who are pleasant and smile or talk! Spas are supposed to give tranquil happy vibes. As for management - never saw anyone. The spa is run by the girls who all seem to hate it and blame the ‘system’ We were told to ‘go check for yourself’ at reception’ when my friend enquired why nobody had come to get her 30 mins after her treatment was booked. Turned out they had switched appointments round but not told her and she had to go check herself because the therapist said if she ‘had to go’ it would cut the treatment short! Customer service?? I suggest for a spa day you look at other local places which are more professional and friendly.
Negative experience: Had a very bad experience, booked a spa treatment session costing me near enough £100, session was booked at 5.15pm, the lady called me bang on 5.15pm i said im on my way, ill be 5/10min due to rush hour traffic through banbury, she did not mention anything over the phone, I arrived at 5.22pm, they then turned us down and said were can use all the other facilities though apart from the spa, quite frankly i think the woman just couldn’t be bothered and rude and just wanted to go home! So i just paid nearly £100 for 2 of us to use a pool and jacuzzi, sauna, when I could of done that at my local gym for just £12 each! When asking for a refund at the end, or even half the money back as we did use the facilities and even mentioning rescheduling the spa treatment if this was a possibility, and i thought was very fair, they still said no, and gave us a complimentary face masks instead to say sorry, and if anything, that made me more p***ed off, now I’m having to struggle to try and get the refund through wowcher! I thought this was very poor service considering this is supposed to be a highly rated and exspensive gym and I will not be returning until either the issue is resolved or i get my refund!
Negative experience: I’ve always been a fan of bannatynes until the changes started back in 2015. I quit my membership at Peterborough and after a visit to Banbury this week I’m thankful I did. Bannatynes has lost a lot of its identity and its true to this day. I went to Banbury bannatynes on 11 May 2024 for a spa voucher and while the prices are great that you can get smashed avocado and eggs on toast for less than £6, the tables were not not clean and then the team member put our cutlery on it. . Myself and my friend proceeded to eat our dinners on our laps! After multiple emails prior to the day about tardiness, we made sure we were in the spa 5 minutes before our allocated time to then wait for 20 minutes before being collected for our treatments. We were then shorted our allocated treatment times due to their tardiness. We had paid for 70 minute treatments and ended up with 50. After trying to speak to multiple members of staff, there was neither any one on the spa reception or main reception to speak to about our experience. I will hope bannatynes will get back to it’s standard when I was a member sub 2015!
Negative experience: Ridiculously ridged subscription - I was told it was a pay monthly contract with the ability to quit with a months notice. And I have gone to quit (as I moving away) and been told I have to pay until my membership runs out in September which is will run until September which will cost me over 600. My nearest Bannatynes is 8 miles away which in London is a v long way so they won’t let me cancel. Would absolutely not recommend.

Positive experience: I go there normally 4 times a week for aqua classes and pilates. Please note the former is not running at the moment due to loose (but mended) floor tiles. The staff at reception are great and so are all the teachers, encouraging, measured but energetic. Don't regret signing up for membership despite the suspension of Aqua.
Fantastic experience: I was on poolside and whilst Kyle was cleaning steam room and after he was done cleaning and steam room turned back on it looked and smelled so much better.

Fantastic experience: I was quite hesitant about becoming a member, but I must admit that any worries I had previously have disappeared entirely! The fitness team have been amazing with helping me during my stay, and are very knowledgable and informative. Kristin in particular has been a massive help with my gym journey and always seems passionate and enthusiastic, especially in the classes I’ve joined in. The reception team are always on hand to help with any issues I’ve had, and there’s always a welcoming feeling when I arrive. I’ve not had the time to try the spa facilities yet but I’m hoping I can book in soon when my calendar clears up.

Positive experience: My wife and I recently visited this spa for a day of relaxation, but unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, we were disappointed to find dirty robes, with my wife's even containing a used tissue in the pocket. However, the staff quickly rectified the situation by providing us with clean robes and refunding our inconvenience. Despite the initial setback, we proceeded with our massages. While the massage itself was effective in relieving my shoulder pain, we were disappointed that our sessions were shortened due to the delay in receiving clean robes. This rushed atmosphere detracted from the overall relaxation we had hoped for. In summary, while the massage was beneficial, the overall experience was marred by the initial cleanliness issue and the subsequent time constraints. Regrettably, we left the spa feeling less relaxed than we had anticipated, and it's unlikely we'll return to this location in the future.

Fantastic experience: The classes are amazing! I did Les Mills GRIT with Olivia this morning, which is a tough one to get through, but she made it not only fun, but also accessible to all fitness levels. Then went into RPM with Dax, which was super high energy and had amazing music! Refuelled with a smoothie in the café bar before heading to poolside for a relaxing sauna and steam room session. Perfect Sunday morning!

Fantastic experience: Two of us went for a back, foot and scalp massage on Friday. Alicia showed us the facilities when we arrived. She also gave one of us massage. She was really friendly and professional. It was a really good massage, focused exactly where I requested in a lovely setting. The music was so relaxing too. Thank you!
Negative experience: I'm cancelling my membership after 5 days. If someone is willing to pay such a high membership for the pool, sauna, clases etc, that's fair enough. But I've been doing bodybuilding for around 5 years and I'm going back to puregym because your "state of the art" equipment is probably older than my teenage daughter, it's not being properly maintained, makes noises, paint is coming off, but that's just the equipment side. The walls look ugly and uninviting and if you stand too close to the window you can feel the wind. And the cherry on the top are the invisible parking lines on the car park.

Negative experience: Visiting family in Banbury from Oxford, decided on an impromptu session at Bannatyne’s as it’s in route, saving negotiating Oxford Boxing Day bonanza! Looked via Google maps, stipulated that OPEN until 22:00. Arrived at 13:30, closed!… ‘I’m out!’I won’t make the the same mistake twice.
Negative experience: Booked a two's company spa day through virgin experience days. Booking process was fine. But on arrival we were shocked to hear a 'new' policy has come in whereby you now have to pay individually for each item of a robe, towel, and footwear. I knew previously about the footwear so had taken my own but to have to pay for a towel ! And then a robe! Is the new set of charges. Also there was absolutely NO notification I advance of this policy ( otherwise I could have taken my own, rather than pay and use a manky grey threadbare robe and towel). This meant my 'pamper' day with my daughter started off under distress. We felt ripped off with these stealth charges. Pool, sauna, steam room were fine. Treatments were pretty average, a rushed nog very intense massage in a roo. That was cold and the staff who kept whispering to each other. My daughter also said the masseuse had too long nails she could feel. Overall not good value for money.
Negative experience: I came to Bannatyne spa Banbury and honestly was shocked at the service. I have never left a review before but am really disappointed and don’t want anyone else to go through the same. Me and my boyfriend originally booked a spa day in September for his birthday, the receptionist called me the night before at around 9pm cancelling because the masseuse was ill. I proceeded to reschedule the appointment for December of which was our anniversary. I did not once receive any sort of confirmation and was eventually sent a check in form which was completely incorrect. I tried phoning multiple times and no one answered the phone, I then finally got an answer but every time I called everyone told us a different time to arrive. When we got there we were given a spa bag which I was told included flip flops which it didn’t so we had to wear our trainers to the spa area. When we got to the spa there was no one on the reception desk so we didn’t know where to go. When we finally were called in for our massages my boyfriend overheard the spa manager say “just remain professional” (for context my boyfriend was getting a leg massage) this made him extremely uncomfortable and was offput from the get go. The two ladies were talking throughout our massages and it was generally off putting. I have never made a complaint in my life but I have just been left really dissatisfied with the whole experience and don’t want anyone to go through the same thing.
Positive experience: Went for a spa day, the receptionist was very welcoming, disappointed that the steam room was not working, the pool temp could have done with being warmer The hotbeds were relaxing and the massage itself was nice
Fantastic experience: The staff and members are all incredibly nice, creating a positive atmosphere. The equipment is top-notch, ensuring a great workout and cheerful classes every time. Although the spa is on the smaller side, it's well-maintained and offers a satisfying experience. The guys at the café are solution-focused and never too busy to give a smile. Big thumbs up for all of them.

Negative experience: Dear Bannatyne Spa, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the experience I had at your spa. I had paid for the full service, including access to the spa facilities, lunch, and a back and scalp massage. However, I was denied a spa bag and locker band when I arrived, even though I was only 5 minutes late. I was also not able to receive my full treatment, as my scalp massage was cut short due to my late arrival. I am very disappointed with the way I was treated by your staff. I understand that you have policies in place, but I believe that some flexibility could have been shown in this case. I was very worried about my personal belongings, as I had to leave them unattended in the locker room. I am also disappointed with the fact that I did not receive my full treatment. I had been looking forward to my scalp massage for a long time, and I was very disappointed when it was cut short. I believe that your customer service could be improved. Your staff should be more understanding and accommodating of customers, especially those who are only slightly late. I would also recommend that you have a backup plan in place in case the coffee machine breaks, and that you provide more towels in the locker room. Positive experience: Was a little hard to find as was not in google maps, so have added for other peoples ease. Average spa / health club. Massage was done by quite newly trained young ladies so could of done with a bit more 'aggressions ' / strength. Other then that is was a pretty standard pool, with hot tub, sauna and steamroom
