Ferndown Leisure Centre

Fantastic experience: Was staying with a friend in Ferndown, i was aware of the area but I didn’t have a clue where I was going and was sent all the town and almost judged for asking where I was going! Until I came into the centre this morning already missed a class but kindly put onto another one. The receptionist staff was a man and a lady that was there at 11:00am. I told them my fuss to find the place and they were so helpful even gave me a lovely coffee. That made my day and I hope this review makes theirs. Keep shining and showing compassion! Definitely returning if I was ever in the area again.

Positive experience: Always a friendly greeting. Nice swimming pool and changing rooms. Dated but functional.

Fantastic experience: Good gym and no faff registration for a passing visitor needing a workout. Loos, showers and changing rooms all looked clean and well maintained.

Positive experience: Went for a swim, pool was great, only minor issue was the dull lighting. It was quite depressing.

That was 40 years ago , the water is freezing and the changing rooms and showers horrid , i used to swim every week at the littledown , whilst living in moordown , now in westmoors ive only been 3 times , im only swimming in warm hotel pools nowadays or at caravan sites , this place needs investment , and fast

Negative experience: I never been so disgusted in my life.. first of I was over charged, then wrong direct debit set up, shown proof they still disbelieved.. whilst arguing about that I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer made them aware I could not attend gym sent proof in.. to add to my stress still getting nasty default letters from them.. despite going in there, writing to them, ringing them ! Avoid !!!! This gym ! Unhelpful and no sympathy for health just out for your money !! Now have to take legal advise and I have enough to deal with !

Fantastic experience: Most reasonably priced gym with pool in the area. Some people say its because it could do with refurbishment and yeah - that's true but at the end of the day if they put the prices up to refurbish, many of us wouldn't be able to afford the fees. I go there to keep fit, not to admire the plastering. Great range of classes.

Negative experience: Really disappointing to find that after travelling from Poole to use the squash courts we arrive to find the school who are doing a competition in the main hall have 'spilled' into the squash courts so a wasted trip for us.

Positive experience: Booked a family swimming session on a Sunday for the small pool. Changing rooms are OK, a little dated really but do the job. Pool itself has chairs by the edge for non swimming members, not alot of people crammed in so you can really enjoy your swimming. Floaties aswell for the little ones. Overall, a good experience.

Positive experience: My regular gym. Follows covid guidelines well Clean up the equipment after yourself. I just think the price is a tad high for just the gym membership.

Negative experience: Disappointed to see BOTH the emergency cords wrapped up in the disabled wet change. I've unwrapped them! Could be the difference between life and death or hours on the floor for someone!

Negative experience: Unhappy with my app,next monday 21st September body balance is not on my app,consequently I was unable to book my place,as only 6 are in the class.All the other classes are there but Monday body balance does not come up,other people have it but i dont.Ann m Jones

Fantastic experience: My children have swimming lesson here and the teacher are lovely and so are the staff. It's not unreasonable expensive and the centre is always clean.

Negative experience: It needs to be updated as there is mold on the walls in the shower room. The loos are absolutely disgusting. Needs a lot of money spent on it. So it can come up to the standard that we expect these days

Fantastic experience: Great place to train with very helpful staff. Big car park with ample space. Good mix of people with varying abilities and ages. Lucy who signed us up explained everything we needed to know clearly and succinctly. Great asset to ferndown leisure centre.

Positive experience: Andrew who runs the disability football is a credit to the company. He is friendly and very good at what he does. The rest of the leisure center needs knocking down and starting again though! Shame really, great staff but the place is an absolute bin

Fantastic experience: Always clean and well looked after. I enjoy the ladies only swim on a Tues. Becky is a great instructor and it's not usually too busy. You could certainly get lost on your first time there! It's a bit of a Maze but well signed. Very cheap especially since it includes a 'swim tag' so you can see how many lengths you've swum and rest time etc.

Negative experience: Called to enquire about the baby pool temperature, was told the pool was 30-32 degrees, this pool defiantly wasn't that temperature, we do swimming lessons in a pool that is 32 degrees and baby can go in wearing only a swim nappy. Had to get out after 10 minutes as was far to cold for my 1 year old. Do not recommend this facility for young babies/children.

Positive experience: Worth the journey out from Bournemouth to avoid crowded pool activities

Negative experience: I’d give no stars if I could, timetable is aweful pool is free all day when everyone is at work but goes to aquafit or lessons when most people get off work

Fantastic experience: My little boy is having swimming lessons here and I am very impressed with how professional it is. It has a lovely small warm shallow teaching pool. He loves it too.

Negative experience: AVOID AVOID AVOID!! If I could give 0 stars I would! This place charges £8 for squash facilities that are in an absolute state! Obviously this is a price for a 40 minutes not an hour? ! I don't know where the money goes but surely not into the facilities and not into the staff either - that is if you see any of them (those you do see are charging at the reception not where I would expect all of them to be?) A getting as you walk in - don't kid yourself. They can't even prepare the squash courts for the squash booking as on arrival there would still be a table tennis table in the court which obviously you as a player/guest would have to take apart and roll into a different court. Having list about 5-10 minutes doing that you can then wait at least 5 minutes for the energy saver lights to come on properly - however half of those are broken on every court so that you can play on a dimmed city for now 30 minutes max (those lights haven't even been fixed for over a month now! Which makes me wonder if staff even go into the courts?). The floor had spillage of juice and sport of dried blood which hasn't even been tried to removed and obviously nobody seems to even sweep the court before usage. If you can avoid this place so so!! I rather drive 15 minutes longer than spending £8 for a court that is an absolute state!! And don't get me started on their toilets!! They are in a worse state than those you would find in a public Trainstation! I seriously doubt this place has ever seen a cleaner!

Positive experience: Nice centre with gym and swimming facilities. Reasonably priced memberships are available and you are not tied in month after month - the flexibility suits me well. Changing areas are small but clean. There are stairs to the pool from the changing room and the hours are not always ideal for me to lane swim - hence 4/5 for me.

Negative experience: Good gym. A little on the busy side and there can be a bit of a wait to get on the machine/weights you want to use. My BIGGEST issue with this gym is the communal male showers! This isn't prison... come on people no one really wants to shower infront of others and being that the gym can have younger children in out of peek times I don't think it's right. The females have separate showers... really annoys me. Yet I still go to the gym because it's close and I just have to make do with a sweaty drive home.
