PureGym Hitchin is a popular fitness center located in the heart of the town, offering 24/7 access and an impressive range of equipment. Positive experience: gym is quiet 00.00 to 04.00 .The location between 08.00 and 18.00 good luck getting parking and finding a car park that wont rip you then getting on the equipment you need. Gets busy quickly and not enough equipment. things that break will stay broken for a while. Pure Gym app and changing membership and getting on the right membership is a pain.
Positive experience: Great range of equipment, staff very friendly and helpful. Can get very busy during peak times, some of the customers need to have a word in their ear about personal hygiene as often they stink the place out which makes working out extremely unpleasant!
Fantastic experience: The gym is well equipped, clean and looked after. The staff are very professional and always available to help. William the manager deserves a special mention. I have been a member of a few gyms in the local area and in my opinion this is by far the best.

Negative experience: Turned up today (Sunday) to take a look at the gym.Met with a sign,'Everyone welcome'.Clearly not.No staff on duty.Not able to get through the electronic barriers to look around.Two female gym users ,( not staff-customers),told me I could not go through and to ,'Come back tomorrow'. Laughed as I walked away.Whole experience very off-putting.Gen Z style customer service exactly what I feared.Only saving grace was it looked clean.
Positive experience: Well equipped gym. However.. The changing rooms are cramped, locks are loose and don’t work well. I’ve had someone open when locked but wasn’t a scene luckily. No reason for that. Showers seem like something from a jail often dirty too. Also the off peak times are a bit odd.. unless u want to enter gym at 12am-5am? Seems extreme. That is the disappointing side to the place.
Fantastic experience: Great value for money. Zero joining fee and half price for the first month, what's there not to like? On a serious note it's a no frills gym that caters for cardio, weights, functional fitness and classes. At 29 quid a month it's great value. Not sure why people are complaining as often in life you get what you pay for!

Fantastic experience: First time in 7 months of not going to the gym, I was a bit nervous to ask about how to use the machines etc but Alex was friendly and happy to help and show me how to use the machine properly will be joining classes soon.

Negative experience: Don't know how this has a 4 star rating at time of writing. I have moved around a lot for work, been to ~10 different gyms in the last 4 years, and this is by far the worst I've been to. I am forced to go here as not many other gyms are open before 7am. No proper changing facilities, machines, dumbbell, plates, all out dated, looks run down, terrible squat rack (there is only one with safety bars) so much empty room for no reason, NO PROPER PLACE TO FILL A WATER BOTTLE, I mean come on. £27 quid is a joke for what you are getting. If you don't need to go before 10am just join Old Skool Gym Gains which is literally in the build behind Pure Gym.
Negative experience: Sick of going no matter what time day or night and constantly waiting over 30-40 minutes just for a set of weights or god forbid a machine! Outdated btw. If so many of us use the weights from 4-10kg get in another set of them like the other puregym branches do. Just gonna cancel and try a new gym.
Negative experience: Below the bare basics
Positive experience: Not from around the area so thought would drive 30 mins for a session, parking kind of a nightmare
Positive experience: Not one of the best puregyms, quite small and not a lot of good kit, great for a beginner or an occasional gym goer but for a more experienced gym goer or a body builder etc... its not great. Shower/toilet set up isn't great and changing cubicles aren't near to the showers meaning you would have to use the shower cubicle to get dressed after a shower. Nice small seating area at the front to be able to enjoy a post workout snack, vending machines are OK, everything you would need for a gym sessions including padlocks etc...
Negative experience: Great kit and set up for a small gym. Showers were dirty and no hot water in my shower. Be better to get rid of 2 toilet/ showers and make 2 of them proper shower/ changing cubicles that are nicer and better set up to change in after showering. Not sure how this attracts the additional membership fee other than it being in Hitchin. Other than evenings and weekends no free parking either.
Positive experience: Overall, I think it's a great gym. Has all the equipment that I would ever really need for a gym, everything is kept fairly tidy & clean. The only negative and this is no fault to PureGym is that because this is a 'PureGym Local' so the gym is on the smaller side, but it can get a bit overcrowded for the size that it is especially at peak times.

Positive experience: It’s cleanAnd the classes are good. But it gets really busy. And some people that go there are not nice. I used a treadmill that someone was “apparently” still using even though he had walked away. And he raised his arms and his voice at me
Fantastic experience: This gym literally saved my life this Christmas….. suffering from anxiety n depression being single and alone over the holidays I wouldn’t know what state my mental health would of been in….. but getting up when I randomly wake at 3 am and being able to go to the gym before my demons wake as been a god send….. thank you everyone at pure

Fantastic experience: At the time that I exercised, there were about 6 other people there, although it had become busier about an hour later. Sanitising materials were available, as was hand sanitizer. The vending machine was well stocked (which takes card payments as well as cash I believe, although I didn't use it. ) The place was clean, although some users need to learn to tidy up after using certain items of equipment.

Negative experience: Someone stole my set keys at Hitchin PurGym and contacted the emergency help point and manager - no one assist me. The gym has a camera 24/7 and the footage can be seen in order to identify the theft but no one responded. What is the point of the emergency call help for? What is the point of putting camera in the gym if it’s useless.

Fantastic experience: The gym is a little on the small side but I actually prefer that. I don't go at peak times because it can get busy but I chose a 24hr gym because peak times aren't when I visit. All the PTs are lovely, welcoming and happy! A big plus is to walk into a gym and feel confident. They're always happy to help or answer questions and the classes they run as brilliant. Can't recommend Sean Lowes enough, he's been a game changer for my fitness journey! Gym equipment range is good, could do with a second squat rack because it's a nightmare waiting 20 minutes for the rack sometimes but there's plenty of other stuff to keep you occupied while you wait. Never had an issue not finding plates for what I want to lift. Functional are, free weights, machines, cardio, beaches etc. It's kept very clean and tidy, often see the cleaners in there working tirelessly so give them a smile and a wave for doing a great job. Other gym goers seem to be friendly, haven't come across any real ar*eholes, either which the gym can't control but it's a big plus!

Positive experience: Nowhere as good as my previous pure gym Unfortunately not the greatest gym I’ve ever been to. After recently moving to the area, I decided to keep to pure gym rather than anytime fitness due to my great experience prior to that at my old location with pure gym and the fact that pure gym is normally cheaper. Well, my membership was £3 extra, not too big of a deal, but the overall quality of the gym in comparison is poor. The dumbbells only go up to 40kg, the parking is not free, in fact every time you go you’re expected to pay £1-3 every single visit unless you walk or something. Of course this will definitely add up over the course of a month, especially if you’re an active goer such as myself, just going to the gym will end up costing another £20-30+ on top of the membership. Also felt quite claustrophobic whilst there due to it being somewhat underground and it’s also quite small, although the staff seemed pretty friendly. It’s a decent gym I guess, but definitely not for me and the parking situation definitely bothered me, so I’ll be going somewhere else. I’m not sure why the quality compared to my other pure gym is so drastic, it wasn’t in a prime town/city or anything like that, had a lot more equipment, dumbbells went up to 50kg, free parking next to it and just overall a better atmosphere.

Positive experience: Couldn’t recommend Tom’s Sweat 30/Strength class enough! It feels like you’re having a personal training session without the expense as you’re pushed in the best way possible. I’ve definitely got stronger over time. I’ve done his classes multiple times and it doesn’t get any easier, which is great as I like to be challenged.

Positive experience: Just about enough kit in there to be able to satisfy most peoples work out. Good free weights area, plenty of bars, plates can be a struggle to find during peak times. It is definitely expensive for a pure gym of this size. I changed my home gym as I moved house, my old gym, Camberley, is £5 cheaper per month but about 10 times the size and the amount of equipment, and had a downstairs spin studio and classes room and huge dedicated changing rooms. The gym is definitely kept clean! My only real gripe is the swimming pool style changing rooms. It would be nice if these could be made into a small room with a full door on it rather than just cubicles. I always train either on my way to work or after work. It's not nice getting changed right where everyone is walking into the gym. I do understand space is not great and I think you have done a good job to get as much in there as possible, but it's really hard to justify that price as other pure gyms provide so much more for less money.

Positive experience: Nice spacious gym in Hitchin that has everything you need. Only missing the 5th star due to the fact that the weights don’t go past 40kg which is a deal breaker for me unfortunately.

Positive experience: Great place to workout in. Excellent equipment and very modern looking. The only downside is that this particular gym is rather small. And so at peak-times, it can be hard to get access to a certain machine or weight-rack.

Fantastic experience: Fab classes for all abilities! They are varied and fun so you never get bored and there is always something to push you,whatever level your at. The staff check your form and correct you, something that other gyms never do in group classes.

Positive experience: We have been members here since it opened. There is a good amount of equipment. The gym could do with a revamp as it looks a bit dirty especially the toilets and shower facilities. It has become much busier due to increase in members. This does mean that it can be hard to get on machines during busier times. Staff are always friendly and helpful when I see them.

Fantastic experience: Not the biggest gym, but has plenty of everything that you're not having to wait or "make do" with something else. Staff are friendly and helpful and current COVID guidelines are well enforced, and in some instances actually helpful COVID aside. Great gym!

Positive experience: First of all, customer service is excellent. Probably the most friendly and helpful staff I've met in a gym. However the gym itself is just OK. The building that the gym is in is shaped awkwardly and makes the space look a lot smaller than it is, which makes for a very restrictive feeling workout. The treadmills and other cardio equipment are dated and face a plain blue wall so it's quite boring to work out on. The free weights area is great though.

Fantastic experience: Great fun
Positive experience: This is a nice gym. However, the dumbells do not go up to 50Kg and do not even go past 40kg (so I am not able to do my usual 50kg dumbell bench press), but other than that the gym is really nice. This Pure gym has small, but convenient changing rooms which are a modest size (imagine a shop changing room) & I like the private shower (I am not sure why the other Pure gyms feel that everyone wishes to strip off in front of everyone else when wishing to take a shower). I will advise that this Pure gym does not provide parking. There are car parks within walking distance, but none are free. You can park outside Pure gym (if you find a space) free of charge after 6pm. But I stand by my 4 stars due to the changing area & private shower as this (for me) compensates for every other bad point. And as this is not my regular gym I can train other body parts and not do chest bench press.
Negative experience: Expensive. You can't wash your hands because of broken push taps. Expensive

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please notify staff on site as soon as you can

Staff do undertake regular cleaning checks and we have dedicated cleaning teams come each night to carry out and comply with internal and external audits. If there are areas that require further cleaning speak to the Gym Manager and they can pass the message onto the cleaners. We can appreciate the changing facilities may be too small during peak times, but please be aware due to the situation of our gyms it isn't always possible to extend the site itself, however, we are always looking to expand and improve our facilities where possible, so please keep an eye out for updates. If you have any specific suggestions regarding the layout of the gym please approach the Gym Manager or leave a note in the feedback box, which is regularly reviewed. Negative experience: Im glad that I paid for 1 month only. First day, when I came to gate to enter my pin code, i tried many times, then asked for help. one of the staff came to help with grumpy face without saying anything like welcome, or let me take you around. he only said click on OK button and walked away. i will go back to anytime fitness, at least every time I enter the gym they say hello and ask if i need help, and check my progress and encourage me

Positive experience: This is a small, inexpensive town centre gym. That means it doesn't have a dozen of every conceivable machine, palatial changing rooms or a dedicated car park. It does have: a good enough range of equipment for most types of workout unless you're a super-serious powerlifter, friendly and helpful staff, and 24/7 opening with free classes for a pretty much unbeatable price. If you're canny about avoiding peak times it's not too busy to get what you want done, just don't expect to stroll in at 6pm and have your pick of the kit. The clientele is mixed, not just jacked bodybuilder types and there's frequent enough inductions to learn how to use the equipment so it's not an intimidating place to come into. It's not perfect, but for the price and the size it does a pretty good job. My only criticism would be the lockers that need you to bring a padlock with you, and the patchy Wifi signal inside.

I'm afraid it's true our gyms simply are very popular and so can become busy especially at peak times, but this does fluctuate throughout the day and from day to day. To make the most of the space where possible, though, we are always looking to expand and improve our facilities, so please keep an eye out for updates. It is always our aim to provide free parking for all our gyms to make access to the gym as easy as possible. Unfortunately due to the situation of our gyms this isn't possible, however there's free on-street parking outside the gym from 6pm until 8am or you can use the car park on the roof of the gym which is paid, prices advertised locally. The car park is open 24 hours a day. We always aim to keep our gyms at the most affordable price possible. As a result we haven't included pad locks within the pricing of it. The pad lock system allows us to remove them if items are left over night, as per the gym rules, meaning lockers will be available from day to day. If there is an ongoing issue please speak to the Gym Manager when you are at the gym and we will be able to look into this further. Positive experience: Small gym, hardly any equipment and no dedication gender specific changing rooms. It was quite empty though so that was a plus however, the people in there seemed really chavvy.

Positive experience: The gym is really good and very cheap! Everything is new, the equipment is awesome, extremely clean and a really nice functional area as well! The only thing that I didn't like, is that although there are lockers, there aren't any locker-rooms! Instead the are two cubicles to change. If there are more people in the gym you have to wait for your turn. It's a big gym, so they should have made 2 locker rooms. What they did is a bit silly!

Fantastic experience: Loads of Equipment, very reasonably priced
Negative experience: No wifi, poor and cheap feeling equipment, lack of windows. Hitchin has other local gyms that offer a far better experience.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, great staff. Classes are great. So useful that it is open 24hrs. It's a busy gym, however I have not experienced it too busy. I used the gym between 8pm 10pm and I've never had a problem. Would recommend.
Negative experience: Not having a women’s or men’s changing room with showers is poor. Not many machines and poorly laid out compared to the other pure gyms I’ve used. Also WiFi is not avaiable. All of these things are advertised on their puregym page which is mis-leading. You really need to sort the changing room situation out. Having two cubicles made of wood by the entrance is shocking

Of course I apologise if this was not working when you were there but should be available for all gyms. Positive experience: Only 2 showers available to use, unisex and connected to main gym floor. Showers and toilets in same cubicle (gross). Showers always look dirty, and poor ventilation means they're always thick with steam. No proper changing rooms. Worst of all, not a single spin bike in sight! They have all this cardio equipment, but not a single spin bike, so disappointing. Also no Yanga water dispenser. EDITED: After speaking to one of the gym managers, I have to say I'm very impressed with the customer service of this gym! Spin bikes are on order, sadly nothing to be done about the shower situation though They've got size limitations based on town population, apparently!

But we can of course check the cleaning rotas so if you let the Gym Manager know when you’ve visited they can properly investigate. Negative experience: I CANNOT FAULT THE GYM BUT THE PARKING ABOVE THAT WE WERE TOLD BY THE GYM TO USE CHARGES 24 HOURS A DAY BUT THE SIGNAGE STATES BETWEEN 7AM AND 7PM AVOID THE CAR PARK OR YOU WILL GET A TICKET!!!!!
Negative experience: WHERE DO I START. So me and a friend attended this evening after changing our home gym to hitchin after being at cambridge for over a year, we didnt get told about any inductions that needed to be done to access the gym after 10pm (At this point we had already drunk our Pre-Workout AND WAS READY TO GO) to find out we cant get in because we haven't had and induction at hitchin (Even though we have had and induction at Cambridge) Also after not being able to attend your gym this evening, as we were leaving due to the location of the gym being in the town centre there was a chicken shop across the road, and it's safe to say I think I've just gained 5lbs thanks alot Pure Gym!!
