Batchwood Golf & Sports Centre

Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities, golf course is good aswell. Paddle courts should be indoors.

Negative experience: I recently visited the centre to play padel at the on-site courts run by PadelStars. When I arrived, I naturally went to the main sports centre desk to check in. Unfortunately, I was met with a rude and dismissive attitude from the staff. The person at the desk made it very clear that he had “nothing to do” with the padel courts, and if anything went wrong—like issues with the lights —they wouldn’t be responsible. He told us not to “complain” to them about it if we have a miserable time. I understand there’s a separation between the sports centre and PadelStars, but a more courteous approach would have gone a long way. It felt unwelcoming and unnecessary, especially for first-time visitors.

Positive experience: Not that many Padel venues around . Two courts to hire and group lessons options.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place with good parking and great tennis and paddle courts.

Negative experience: The men's bathroom always stinks. the machines haven't been changed for a long time.

Positive experience: Great golf course for seniors.

Positive experience: Average public course and good for beginners. Green were not great when we played.

Fantastic experience: Walked up at batchwood today. There are ample footpaths across the land and at the moment an abundance of beautiful bluebells.

Fantastic experience: I love this Everyone Active centre. The staff are very helpful and encouraging. I particularly like the classes.

Negative experience: Charged me double what my membership plan costed and twice in the 8 day space I had my account

Positive experience: Overall good facilities and equipment with bike parking outside. Does tend to fill up after work hours but that is normal. There is a problem with young children running around sometimes.

Fantastic experience: This location hosts a gym and golf course, plus they have other activities located here like tennis, a judo club, and bowls club. There is plenty of parking, though using the bottom car park can feel a bit sketchy at night. The staff are really nice. I had great conversations with Sam, Miles, and Jack today. Very engaging people, and I felt valued as a customer.

Negative experience: Today during my workout at Batchwood gym, I was asked by another member who just walked in the gym, and still had his coat on to move from the area I was training in so he could workout in my space. The gym was quiet and there were other places this member could have begun training. The member took his coat off and came back and requested I move from the area I had been in for the last 35+ minutes to accommodate him. I initially said we could share the area, he then said he wanted me to train somewhere else and I said no, he can wait for me to finish or go somewhere else. He went to speak to staff; he came back with a staff member and the member of staff asked me to move so I could accommodate the man that had just entered the gym. Other people in the gym mentioned I had been in that space for a long time and there are other places for the member to train - the Everyone Active Employee asked me to move again. I am a very experienced coach and Personal Trainer I know what it means to offer a high level of service to paying members - and I have never experienced anything like this before in a gym. To me as a black male, it felt very racially motivated on the members part, I refuse to believe that he would have spoken to me in this way if I did not have black skin, and to have your employee ask me to move, when the gym was empty to accommodate an incredibly pompous entitled man who just entered the was absolutely disgusting. I believe the service at the Harpenden and Batchwood gyms have deteriorated since the take over from Everyone Active and I would not recommend anyone training at these clubs after this shocking and embarrassing experience. I have been training at Batchwood for over a decade on and off as it is local to me, however, I will be cancelling my membership at Everyone Active immediately.

Positive experience: St. Andrews , Augusta national , pebble beach well this place craps on everything more than the time I fed a flock of seagulls laxative laced chips on the beaches of Bournemouth. A place brilliant for young amateur golfers who are willing to learn and slash about , you haven’t heard cries of FORE! This much since Stephen hawking was on strictly come dancing. The course was overgrown, yellow in patches and the greens barely watered I had to rub my eyes it was like playing links golf in Scotland ! By the looks of things most the greenskeepers looked like they went to links school so that must explain it. The beauty of this place is I didn’t even pay for my round and some speccy will mckenzie looking member of staff came round and gave me a free bottle of water. I walked off the 18th tee in profit ! This place would get a 5 star review however when searching for a ball in the trees I stepped in what appeared to be fresh human excrement and stained big roll. The only negative this course is elite !

Fantastic experience: The gym is light and airy, with a really good range of equipment. They have an exceptionally good strength and conditioning room with three great squat racks, bounce plates and a lifting platform for deadlifts. The atmosphere is nice, the staff are pleasant, and the location is really nice too.

Fantastic experience: My son attends the Judo club at this facility. In my experience, it is one of the best facilities for martial arts in the UK - large, modern and spotlessly clean. The Judo club coaches genuinely care about their students welfare and I am pleased with the skills my six year old has after only a few months.

Fantastic experience: Good facilities here, with the public golf course and indoor tennis centre as the main attractions. The golf course was in good condition when I played it last month, and my boys enjoy playing tennis here.

Tee boxes are 'ok' and fairways in reasonable condition considering no one has had the chance to tear them up with divots in the last 12 weeks, greens will be OK once the hollow tining heals up and a few more mows. £24 for a round or concession price of £17 is OK for the track.

Positive experience: Went to batchwood hall to have our 1st covid 19 vaccine tonight .was a little nervies but was not to bad even though friends have had reaction to it .we all need to have it to get back ti normal miss not seeing friends for the last year have missed parties and birthdays.cant wait for freedom

Very organised and covid compliant. Well done to all the staff who organised the vaccination and helped out at Batchwood Hall.. A wonderful speedy operation and very well planned.

Fantastic experience: Was in batchwood hall for a covid vaccination jab, the first time I've been in there for about 18 years, in my memories the place was much bigger than how it seemed. But it was really nice having a look down memory lane, shame its not a night club no more, I had some mental nights there when the pubs all kicked out back in my younger days lol.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of the Golf Course and Sports centre for ages. I tend to tee off asap in the morning with my buddy John. We both agree that the course at present is the best it's been for years. This is solely due to Heath the Head Green Keeper plus his assistants who have been reduced in number.The greens in particular are in our opinion excellent so the team need a round of applause and our thanks. Well done. One of my sons comes from Peterborough and has played many of his local courses and is amazed as how good our course is compared to those he plays. So overall for us two oaps it's great value for money. James Lynch in the centre has been most helpful and obliging. Three items need attention. 1. The roads entering and leaving the complex need urgent attention as some of the pot holes are so deep they are going to cause damage to you and your car. 2. Why oh why can't the Cafe be opened. All that money spent and it's been empty virtually since day one. Most golfers like an all day breakfast, snacks sandwiches and a drink. We can't even get a cup of tea/coffee etc which is not on. 3. I paid £25 for my son who is over 50 for a round on the 19/8/20 On the 9/9/20. £15.? I think you owe me a tenner!!! Finally it's great news that our Lone Ranger Cliff is back after a very serious heart operation and we've really missed his banter and advice. It took us ages to find out what was wrong with him. Pete and John the two old farties. ps if anyone found a nightlite flashing golf ball on the second hole it's MINE!!

Positive experience: Lovely course with open fairways and long holes; great for a high handicap player to get some practice and confidence on a full course.

Positive experience: Nice layout, it's a public course so don't expect amazing greens/bunkers etc. If it was privately owned it would be amazing. Has great potential.
