Negative experience: Disgusting service. Honestly if you have teenagers, kids do not let them go here it is terrible and make it imposible to cancel or leave. 2 min away is the gym group which is cheaper, 24/7 and you can cancel any time and dont charge you any initial charge like total fitnes. STAY AWAY

Negative experience: Equipment and pool good however cleanliness and hygiene let's it down

Negative experience: This place is tatty and dirty. The carpet is threadbare and the equipment is falling apart. AVIOD. I will be cancelling my membership as soon as I am able to. It's too expensive to have all these issues. Honestly it's gross.

Negative experience: Too expensive for what it offers. Very old machines, often not working, dirty, I hate those giant fans that spread the dust in the air making my breathing very difficult, lack of fresh air, very old neends lots of maintenance I'd say. I wouldn't dare getting in the swimming pool. When my annual membership ends I will not renew. If you know what you are doing in the gym you can get much more modern and cleaner gym for half price. I feel it is not worthy. The cafe is nice touch.

Negative experience: Dirty place people spit in sauna and pool. Very unpleasant shouting staff. Disgusting place.

Negative experience: Out of all branches i have used, this one is the least invested in. Plus is very friendly staff, low number of people, even in rush hour. Equipment tired, and not much variety.

Fantastic experience: This is by far my favourite Gym in Chester, the staff have great manners and understanding. I have experience working in the leisure centre and I know how painful is the last 10min lifeguarding, other centres normally shut everything to push people home but Arron (Their Lifeguard) patiently waited for overtime when he saw me desperately using high-pressure water in the Jacuzzi . Five star for having such a good staff

Negative experience: The pool is absolutely filthy. The women’s changing room is actually ok, quite clean. Then the walk though to the pool is filthy by the showers, the floor looks like it is never cleaned with huge build ups of hair on the floor. The baby pool is the worst, I enjoyed swimming in this pool as it is heated however I started to notice it never gets cleaned. Whether there is something wrong with the filter I don’t know? The plasters that are on the bottom of the pool in both the baby pool and the normal pool are left there for literally weeks. To the point where I avoid going for weeks and after 3-4 weeks of avoiding, I go back and the same plasters are still in the pool. There was the same piece of wet tissue on the side of the baby pool for around 3 weeks. People wear swimming shoes from the changing room and walk into the pool and swim with them on, bringing hair and filth into the pool from the floor outside that doesn’t get cleaned. This shouldn’t be allowed. Also the staff wear dirty trainers around the pool that they clearly wear outside and bring dirt into the pool area. There are signs saying no outdoor shoes yet apparently this doesn’t apply to the staff who are constantly walking in and out of the main reception to the pool area

Positive experience: Decent gym, got the the pass for 7pound and got a good workout in. Missing some machine but you can do with free weights

Negative experience: More than a week has gone by and the sonarium and sauna are still not working . The steam room is also cold thanks to a vent blowing cold air at foot level into the room.

Positive experience: Staff are amazing brilliant facilities. Only downfall is things often not open I.e sauna or steamroom, cancelled sessions and swimming pool drains not cleaned as sometimes smell at one end

Positive experience: Good facilities. Great cardio area. Staff are pleasant. Easy parking. Only downside is cleanliness. Some of the lad crowd in the evenings can be a bit inconsiderate, leaving sweat on the machines, litter in the locker rooms and even worse things in the showers... TF should educate it's membership about these things or hire more cleaners.

Negative experience: Can't speak for the gym as I only use the pool - which isn't great unfortunately. Maybe the filters aren't working properly, as there is always visible 'dirt' in the pool - sticking plasters and other debris, sometimes you can spot the same bit for days on end . They also use a weird 'double lane' set up, which makes it hard to swim lengths and do a normal turn at the end. It also means that the talkers and walkers are in the same space as the swimmers, which isn't ideal.

Negative experience: If you want to have a company take nearly £300 from you in one month for a £43 membership then this is the gym for you. Awful service staff setting up memberships incorrectly, never answer the phone, not interested in rectifying the issues. Awful customer service even from head office where you cannot get anyone to assist you. Complaint e mails ignored clearly no complaints procedure set in place as a company to protect the customer. Keep clear of this gym as they are highly incompetent

Positive experience: Well equipped gym, not enough benches though, at peak times you may have to wait. Big minus: The music is usually too loud, sometimes to the extent that it’s hardly possible to listen to your own tunes in earphones. Decent pool however it is not cleaned often enough, and at unexpected evening times 4 out of 6 lanes can be blocked for classes. The showers and changing rooms aren’t very clean, unfortunately. Not the staff’s fault, but there are a lot of members with poor gym ethics, weights not put back after exercising, walking across your gym mat on the floor in the stretching area - the gym should put a bit more emphasis on such standards and educating members. Sanitiser seems to be no longer made available so even if you wanted to, you won’t really be able to wipe down the equipment after using it.

Negative experience: The pool is not very clean and too cold. Shower temperature unpredictable.

Positive experience: Great pool/sauna facilities when they're all working and at a sensible temperature, which isn't often the case... Doesn't help that people pour water on the electric sauna stones and steam room sensor. Plenty of squat racks since the refurbishment, tonnes of cardio machines and top-notch classes, but not enough free-weight benches/cables to meet demand when it's busy. Also there's about 3 different generations of machine, so it can be difficult to keep track of progress as 20kg on one is completely different to the same weight on another.

Fantastic experience: Great place to work out

Negative experience: Very friendly staff good gym floor and equipment. Unfortunately the water in the showers is sometimes very hot and has been weeks since the the water temperature is unstable. My son just got a red face from a surprised boiling shower. Corporate probably has a terrible system to sort these kind of issues that let their staff and members down.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going here for a few months now after recently changing gyms and couldn’t be happier! It’s a spacious gym with all the equipment you could want and is really clean! There’s even a women’s only section which is perfect is you want more privacy. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially the personal trainers and the people in the gym are friendly too. The changing rooms are modern and also clean with nice showers, hairdryers ect Would definitely recommend

Negative experience: Hydro pool is always freezing! It’s the same temperature as the main pool! It’s ment to be a hot tub. Steam room and the saunas Are always broken! Or one Is closed every day they are cost cutting but still charging us full price. I no this for a fact as I’ve been to 4 other total fitness clubs And all the members are not happy as same issues. And I asked a member of staff if they are trying to save money he declined to answer the question. If you complain nothing gets done about it. Avoid try another club.

Changing rooms filthy and discusting , un cleaned for days and when complain just told what to do there is no cleaning staff , signed up for a month and the steam room had been closed for 25+ days , hydro pool is always cold , sauna either too hot too cold , showers filthy and shower gels constantly empty , eauioment in the upstairs gym is laughable , rusted , seized up , broken , falling apart , filthy You end up leaving after each visit just more and more annoyed and wondering what you’re paying for …. 90% of the staff are useless they don’t have a clue what’s going on or care about the place membership people will sell you a dream and the above is what you will get . Come and see for yourself haha

Negative experience: I’m only two weeks in and really disappointed in this gym. Some of the equipment is really tired, the classes aren’t the best, the timings of the classes aren’t great with many of them being during the day when most people are working, the hydro pool is too cool to stay in very long, steam room been broken twice. I just had tonight what I was told would be a free personal training session for signing up but was just someone showing me how to use the weights. They turned up late and their knowledge wasn’t great. They keep pushing the squad classes which you have to pay extra for. I really wished I had joined the Hilton now instead for the same price but am now stuck here for 12 months.

Negative experience: Waste of money as the small swimming pool is never open and the main pool is too cold for children. We had to cancel our memberships after 2 years.

Fantastic experience: Such a beautiful and kind place. Our family want to give a big Thankyou to both girls called Amy and a gent called jack and the other male worker. My mum had a fall outside the gym on Monday 22nd august and the lovely lady called Amy sat and waited with my mum and comforted her in the rain which is beyond her reach. We are entirely greatful for the efforts of the colleagues and hope that they get the credit they deserve! This will be an unforgettable act of kindness from them and I hope they enjoy the card and chocolates they received!❤️

Negative experience: Mid gym, they do not answer emails, live messages, or on social media. They will steal your money and make canceling your subscription as difficult as possible. 0/10

Negative experience: I have been a member in the past and I tried it out again recently. Poor equipment choices, no Powerlifting sections, more for families rather then serious athletes. The size of the gym is great but it’s poorly utilised with pointless and/or outdated equipment.

Positive experience: Unfortunately it looks like the equipment have stopped being maintained and replaced some time ago. Most of them seem to have parts missing or rust and even the carpets are torn in places and unclean. I would be happy if this was a £20-30 neighbourhood gym, but it’s not what I expected from a premium gym charging £60 a month. October ‘22: My previous review needed updating. Management have taken recent feedback seriously and have undertaken a significant refurbishment and renovation project. The whole place now looks modern and clean, with old carpets replaced by laminate flooring and modern elastic surfaces. A lot of new equipment has been purchased and (most of) the older equipment has been repaired. Well done!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I have been members since Jan 22. Good bits Large car park. Good variety of classes. Masses of equipment in several locations. Damaged and broken machines are repaired. Good pools including one with lanes. Pleasant cafe. Well maintained changing rooms with lockers where you use your own padlock. Not so good. Some classes can be noisy, and the noisy participants are unchallenged. Classes fill up very quickly online. Gyms can be very busy and hence not all equipment is available. Too few of some sizes of dumbbell. Overall, very pleased.

Positive experience: Huge are I'm here. Lots of weights etc. The cycles are disappointing as there isn't a TV screen on them

Negative experience: People out there do not bother going to this sesspit all the machines are out dated they never fix things when there broken, They sub let the punchbag room out to a childrens cresh when we already pay for it in our membership go to JD in brombough £20 per month i put up with total for years and always seemed to go home feeling angry. Speaking to the management is like speaking to a brickwall its retardish at best. If u go in there on a bright day u can see the dust in the air and that dust now has been proven to cause illnesses.5 times i got ill last year now av left surprize surprize av not been ill avoid avoid avoid.

Negative experience: I came to take my 15-month-old swimming. When I arrived, I explained that I hadn't been able to set up my online account yet, and the receptionist booked me in for a swim. She also notified me that I had to pay a membership for my child. This was not explained to me when I came in to discuss memberships the previous week. I don't think paying for a 15-month-old is appropriate. Eventually, I made it to the pool, only to be told by the lifeguard that the family pool was unavailable due to a lack of lifeguards. One was due to start in 15 minutes, at 09:30, so I was given the option to wait. However, we had already had our pre pool shower, and so my little one was beginning to get cold. There was a lane free in the bigger pool, so as suggested by the lifeguard, I utilised this for the time being. 09:30 came and went, and there was no sign of another lifeguard. I waited a little longer, but my little one was starting to shiver as the lane pool was far too cold for him. So I left. I am so disappointed as the main reason I joined Total Fitness was for swimming without restrictions, for me, and for my little one when we get chance. My first impression is that it's not worth it, and it is massively overrated.

Negative experience: Went as a guest with my father in law, no one wipped down anything after use, equipment was tatty or broken, no staff on gym floor to oversee people training, I spotted so many people with bad form on machines and free weights.

Positive experience: I've been a member for 2 years now and it has never been overly friendly, but I don't mind as I'm happy to just crack on. However the main reason for my low rating is that the weights are always left in such a mess, of all the gyms I've attended in my life, this is the most expensive and the least organised. Would be good if members cleaned equipment after use also. The pool facilities are great, and I like the variety of classes.

Fantastic experience: Lovely centre. Parking outside on upper level and a ramp to lower level. Need to enter car reg in reception on arrival for free 3hrs parking. Steam room was the steamiest Ive experienced Hydro Spa pool is on its own on/off timer..diffrent to others that have indervidual buttons. Nice big windows with plenty of natural daylight over looking upper carpark and front aspect from pool. Changing areas, lobby, shower and poolside etc all very clean.
