Anytime Fitness Dover

Negative experience: Avoid avoid avoid I started a membership in April 2024, signed up with Molly. She did not explain how to cancel or leave. I found out I was pregnant in May 2024 and stopped using the gym as my pregnancy sickness was extremely bad. I carried on paying the memebership until July 2024. I then though why am I paying for a membership I am not using? And i cancelled my direct debit. As i was on a 1 month rolling membership i thought this would cancel the membership but appparently not! Then I was repeatedly hounded for not having a direct debit and that i needed to cancel my membership via a link. When you try to cancel via the link it forces you to set up a new direct debit and they want a months payment even though you won't be using the gym in that month because you want to cancel. So this went on for months until September when I had had enough and went into the Dover branch to complain and cancel my membership once and for all. The guy that I spoke to was helpfel and said that he has manually cancelled my membership but I might have to pay the month in advance to cancel..... I wasn't happy with this but agreed as I just wanted to memebership gone. Now I've received a letter saying I owe them £78 and that my account has been passed to a debt collector! I called them to ask why this was and they've said its correct because my membership wasn't cancelled and I owe that amount. This is ridiculous considering I had been in hospital suffering with hyperemesis because of my pregnanacy, i paid for months I never even stepped foot in the building and now left with a debt to them. I will never ever use anytime fitness again.

Fantastic experience: The new manager Richard is brill. Described my situation of having a stroke and left with left side weakness and neuropathic pain. He has assisted with some recommendations to help improve strength and my peripheral vision loss. Has really impressed me I can not promote enough thank you Richard

Negative experience: Was informed of an injury I had which meant I couldn’t go to the gym for a few months and didn’t pause my account as discussed and still continue to take money even though I’ve requested they cancel my account now and my contract periods is technically over with. Avoid avoid avoid. Additional information to be added to this review would like to make a complaint about Dovers anytime fitness I have cancelled my subscription as they knew I was moving up north and due to the way they’ve treated me over numerous things I am reluctant to join up with the one in my new area. Firstly i injured ligaments in my knee and requested a pause in my account which in person they agreed to but they never ever gave me the pause and was still charging me when I couldn’t attend the gym for 3-4 months so I told them I’m leaving and I’m moving up north at the end of June to which they’re still chasing me for an apparent unpaid bill which I should owe nothing as I was out of contract when I requested my cancellation.

Negative experience: I recently visited anytime fittest and I was extremely disappointed with the customer service I received. Not only was the female member of staff I interacted with incredibly rude, and unprofessional behavior When I tried to address something about my membership the employee outright called me a liar in front of other customers. when I explained my situation, the employee immediately accused me of lying without any investigation or attempt to understand my perspective. Their accusation was not only unfounded but also incredibly insulting and embarrassing also During my visit, the member of staff spoke to me about my private information in an open area of the gym, where other people could easily overhear our conversation. When I approached the front desk to discuss an issue with my membership, the employee spoke loudly and openly about my personal details, including my billing information and account status. This lack of discretion was both embarrassing and concerning. It is unacceptable for sensitive information to be discussed in such a public manner. Not only did it violate my privacy, but it also made me feel uncomfortable and exposed in front of other gym members. Customer service should include respect for privacy and confidentiality, especially in a setting like a gym where people expect a level of personal space. I hope anytime fittest will address this serious issue and train their staff to handle private information more appropriately in the future. For this reason I ended my contract with immediate effect

Fantastic experience: The best place to start or continue your fitness journey, staff will put the time in to help you succeed, equipment for every workout and private changing rooms! 5/5 for sure

Positive experience: very basic gym, remind me of a a struggling hotel gym. also there is a weird balding man that look like he smells the seat (tries to be discreet) before he uses the equipment

Negative experience: AVOID, staff speak to members like something they stepped on in the street. Argumentative. Don't listen. Wont allow someone to cancel even though been made uneployed. So rude. Avoid at all costs!

Fantastic experience: The guys are friendly and helpful, the people that use the gym are good people so it's like one big family, the atmosphere is down to the great staff love going there would definitely recommend Anytime fitness!!

Negative experience: The gym itself is nice and the guys working there are helpful but I went through absolute hell with customer services. Anything I had to do over the phone with the company and not the actual gym was shockingly awful. I'd never use anytime fitness again, steer well clear.

Fantastic experience: After going through hell at puregym, then moving to a dynamix and hating that aswell, I was wearing thin with motivation from any gyms, but after coming here for just over a week I have all my motivation back and keen to get into solid training again, the place is well spaced out, decent amount of equipment, the staff are open, friendly and approachable unlike dynamix where i found the onwers rude and intimidating. I’ve only been here a week and I feel much more at home at anytime than I ever did in the 6months at dynamix, handy that I can use my membership in other places too. Only thing I would say is that the aircon isn’t great and gets a little hot in there, I like the private little shower rooms and have access to hairdryers which is decent aswell, overall happy that I signed up here :)

Negative experience: after a 3 month “pause” on my membership they originally seemed quite helpful, however my financial situation didn’t improve and they’ve now taken an unauthorised £47.95 from my bank account. right at the time where a large **expensive** problem occurs with my car, they decide suddenly and without warning to reinstate the direct debit, and being on a part time student income it’s money i simply cannot justify. i’ve told them multiple times that i can’t afford to go anymore and yet they continued to take that money, no questions asked. Anytime Fitness need to take a serious look at the way they treat their lower income customers, before putting unfortunate people in a year long contract in which they may suffer a change in circumstances. aside from the “pause period” they offer, they haven’t helped me out ONE BIT. i now can’t afford to fix my car and have to fork out yet more money of my savings designated towards my university studies. DO NOT GET INTO A CONTRACT WITH THEM

Fantastic experience: Great place to train and great staff always there to help and I’ve been there twice now and would definitely go back as it’s handy for me when I’m in Dover for two days as a coach driver

Negative experience: THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH & FITNESS, THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT TAKING YOUR MONEY!! They helped themselves to my account by reinstating a Direct Debit without warning costing me £434.15 for the agreed 1-month membership. I was very clear from the very start I only wanted 1 month membership, it's all over the emails and subjects and we even agreed verbally when signing up in person. Upon trying to cancel, I'm told at this point I have to pay 2 months (costing me £107.50 if you include all the other fees and pro-rata month), horrible to find this out, but fair enough, I take it on the chin, shame on me for not reading the contract (would have appreciated a heads up from the start though). Agreed to cancel direct debit after the second payment, which I did. Months later I check the account, to my horror the Direct Debit was reinstated without warning!!! I immediately contacted customer service to resolve. I cancelled the Direct Debit and resent the official cancellation online. I was then charged another month with a late fee!! However, to my surprise, this time I DID get a warning!!!! They didn't just reinstate the Direct Debit without warning like the first time (super frustrating and very inconsistent) a warning like this should be done whenever a Direct Debit is reinstated, at least I would have had warning to resolve it the first time. The power to reinstate a Direct Debit comes with great responsibility, in my case, this ability was abused against an honest paying customer that agreed to pay £107.50 - already a huge amount for 1 months use - the £434.15 is just plain greedy and morally wrong. Tons of emails back and forth with management (and apparently a regional manager), only to now be completely ghosted, they no longer respond, they have simply taken the money. I'm left powerless. Honest paying customers like me should be valued, I will now seek another gym when I'm in Dover visiting family, and when I eventually move back. What a joke, I need the gym cos maintaining my fitness helps with an autoimmune disease I have, I guess that's how I'll justify the £434.15. I hate this gym, I hate this chain.

Negative experience: Watch out they don't tell you details in the office what they should do. You're signing up for a year's contract. They never stop messaging you if you don't go for a couple of weeks. Counselling your contract with them is nearly impossible. And share your bank details with another company.

Negative experience: Worst gym I have ever been to . The staff never get back to you when there is an issue . They pressure you into a membership and takes 6 months + to cancel and even then they wont cancel it and keep sending emails and extra charges upon charges . It's been nothing but hassle and cause more and more anxiety issues on top of current mental health problems . Anytime fitness needs to address all the issues they cause or close .

Negative experience: A terrible gym, staff are rude and make you feel awful. Also when you try to leave they harass you for money saying you can’t leave them. A real shambles off a place. I do not recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: They pressure you into buying a membership with them and I had no idea it was for 12 months. I felt super intimidated into buying it and I cannot even cancel it so this is a waste of money as I always feel too tired to do something like this.

Negative experience: Worst experience with a company I have ever experienced! Initially when I took out the membership I was not told it was a 12 month contract and was implied to that the contract I was signing was for the fob. Admittedly I should have read more thoroughly. I have been suffering with a mental breakdown after the death of my father and due to this I have had anxiety around other people. It has been impossible to come to an amicable way to end my contract. This company has added to my stress. A gym should be for physical and mental well-being but this is not anytime fitnesses ethos.

Positive experience: Not a bad gym with the amount of equipment they have. The staff are friendly and they have really been pushing the membership sales so they have oversubscribed as does every cheap gym its getting on par with pure gym. If you want to do cardio it's fine but forget it if you want to use the freeweights area.

Positive experience: I would give 5 stars for gym accessibility, 24/7 and if You are coming with a car, You will always find a parking space at St James Retail and Leisure Park. 4 stars for equipment. Plenty of free weights, really enjoy Hammer strength equipment but don't feel the effectiveness on most of Life fitness machines. 1 star for gym etiquette. Rare gym member remembers to re rack the weights and equipment. Dropping or slamming the weights on the floor seems to be acceptable as well. If You come early in the morning or late in the evening You will probably find empty bottles of drinks left on the floor. So overall 3 stars.

Fantastic experience: Without a doubt the best gym I've been a member of. Rob, Kayleigh and Tom are great - they're super supportive if you're a bit apprehensive about coming to the gym for the first time and they serve as great motivators. They're great to chat to and it makes the whole environment very welcoming. There's ample parking on site. You get an hour free during the day and any additional time is an extra 55p per 30 minutes (it's totally free after 18:00). The central location means there are good public transport links and it's easily accessed by walking. The gym itself is great. Equipment is clean, modern and up to a high standard. There are a few private bathrooms and changing rooms and these are usually kept to a high standard too. On top of that, there's plenty of variety in terms of machines - I've never struggled to get a treadmill and I can pretty much always find a bench if I am weight training. I don't usually leave reviews, but the team work really hard to make sure that you leave with a smile on your face and I haven't been let down yet!

Plenty of equipment: Squat racks, deadlift platform, lots of benches and free weights, most machines you could ever want, lots of cardio machines. Private showers and toilets. They also run classes, check the timetable.

Seems to be an up and coming thriving local business..personally the glass fronted exterior puts me off going there as i expect others like me cant help but look in when passing. No problem if you're in fantastic physical shape but if you need a bit of work then it could be off putting

Fantastic experience: Great gym! All-new, excellent equipment, open 24 hours. I love the high-tech approach. The staff are super friendly. The only problem is that I still don't get to the gym as much as I would like. The only thing I wish the gym had is big, lockable lockers but I guess there isn't really room for that.
